Underrated "worst kind of thinkpiece article" contendor: articles about how we as a society need to examine [current trend] because naïvely buying into it ruined the author's life, only when you actually read the article it's clear that the author is in fact blaming a LOT of their personal issues on. Alex Rider S03E04 Reaction
My unspoiled reactions to episode four, aka TUTOR YASSEN LET'S GOOOO
Liveblog
Oh okay so they are blaming Blunt in this, even if I think the trap was actually the Malta operation to bring him in.
Omg John/Yassen flashback!!! Yassen was so nervous!! I love how calm John stays throughout it all. And gosh the way Yassen closed his eyes when John told him to does things to me. I assume John saved him but gave him the scar in the process much like in canon
Yassen watching him sleep!!!
I was so ready to go noooo when Yassen said they had to leave their past behind them but apparently it was about Ian and not John lol. Love Yassen calling himself a professional
Twenty years ago 🤔 So with John being at Scorpia for three years that means Alex is canonically seventeen now
Alex stop questioning them in front of other people ahsldfhs
Tutor Yassen!!! Lmao ‘faster! This is slow’ I love how him having high standards is canon
SPARRING omg their faces
“He was kind to me” 👀 yesssss
How did they not realise yet that Scorpia went after Consanto when the woman literally said Julia Rothman was going to finish with Consanto lol
Lmao the awkward silence when Alex fails to hit the more human like targets, and they’re not even pictures
Yassen telling Alex how to kill someone 👀
The idea of them being allowed to keep their phones as they are training in the super secret training facility is just wild lol. Like yeah I’d make the signal bad too, what if people connect to their fitbit or something
Well this isn’t love bombing lol
Ahsldfh Alex is literally missing and you could tell the authorities Jack
Alex lying about the beating is big SAS training in the books vibes
Lmao Alex comparing Blunt and Mrs Rothman
Ahhhh so that’s the show equivalent of the vaccine!!
Gosh Alex forced to hit her as she’s held down
Does Yassen outrank Nile? 👀 omg Yassen/Nile showdown
“This one is my responsibility” 🥰
Love Yassen going ‘yeah you sadists are letting it cloud your judgement’
“What are you doing?” “Filming this?” “Why?” “Because it’s evidence” “Yeah of me committing a crime” ahsldfhsh yeah Tom!!
Yassen just. Refusing to talk about John is so funny to me
John saving Yassen <333 And gosh Yassen thinking of himself as expendable kills me
Exceptional agents <333 Though really there was no need to hit his cheek here lmao
Just let Yassen have his little speech about how emotions distract you, Alex 😭
Oh damn the taxi driver is Scorpia too, creeeeepy
“If he slips up just once, they are gonna kill him” yeah… unlike that other mission you were pretty casual about in s1… how is this a surprise??
Ahsdlfhs is Alex really gonna change their mind on weakness
Overall
Loved it!!! Really enjoyed the Yassen/Alex training scenes, though I kind of miss the love bombing from the book. Loved the John/Yassen flashbacks and I’m very excited to see more Alex & Yassen stuff!
Thoughts/Predictions
‘Kind of lonely though, right?’ I gotta be honest, the whole story with Alex challenging their notions of weakness and stuff really wasn’t doing it for me, but I feel like it sort of develops from Alex not being as isolated as he is in the books. Like yeah, it’s lonely, but Alex in the books is also lonely a lot of the time and it’s something that kind of goes with being in this world. But I do love Alex saying John saved Yassen out of friendship because it reminds me of his thoughts in Snakehead.
Some really interesting differences with the other students here, firstly in that the love bombing aspect isn’t there and they actually seem pretty antagonistic to Alex, while in the book they are all very friendly, in huge contrast to Alex’s earlier experiences with the SAS and MI6. It’s honestly kind of ironic that here it’s the exact opposite, because Alex lying about how he got beaten up is basically what happened with the SAS.
Second point about them is that they are all orphans and seem to be younger than in the book, so it seems the students are different? Are they teenagers like Alex? I honestly can’t tell, what with them casting adults, but I guess maybe Alex isn’t meant to be such an outlier in terms of age, which makes sense with the actors, but is interesting in terms of story because it means Alex isn’t exceptional for being young. I guess that’s also why it’s not made a big deal that he’s a teenager (also since it would seem unbelievable). But now John Rider joining at 30 seems like an outlier, since none of these kids actually had any experience haha.
Invisible sword seems to come from the gas and maybe still the nano particles, but how do all the people in London get hit by it? Just a cloud of gas? The football team probably got it in their system before the match with some excuse.
Nile’s so angry at Alex most of the time gosh. I guess Yassen took over the nice mentor role from Nile here.
Also real convenient that Mrs Jones and Jack don’t actually want to tell each other the truth lmao. I guess here the Department has no idea about who joins Scorpia since they have no eye on them like MI6 has in the book. But that also means there will be no all ports warning to arrest Alex.
Questions
Does Yassen know about John being a spy???
Did Tom and Kyra just… forget about Alex supposedly getting killed if they don’t do as told? Like do they really think Scorpia isn’t going to notice them not getting off the plane in London? The flight isn’t that long…

🚨 Exposing Rampant AI Publishing Scams! Unbelievable!
Tumblr media
AI's Wild Ride: From Scammers to Suckers, Let the Chaos Begin Hey there, folks! Strap in, because AI is like the new kid in town who swears they're going to change everything, but they're facing the classic problem that every flashy tech fad before them has faced: They got the fancy VC funding, but they ain't got a solid business plan, especially for us regular folks. So, what do we do with these huge language-model AIs that can whip up words like an overcaffeinated Shakespeare? It's like having a hyper-intelligent parrot – it talks, but do we really understand what it's saying? So, here's a not-so-novel idea: why not sell that AI-written text? But where, oh where, should we sell it? Somewhere that truth is optional, where wild tales can become literary gold – ah yes, the book market! It's the last haven where people still drop a few coins to get their hands on words. But wait, there's a catch. You can't legally sell AI-made text because, apparently, machine words don't deserve copyright protection (with a few exceptions, because laws love exceptions). But those sneaky scammers are onto it, blending AI into their scheming ways. Imagine publishers having hush-hush meetings, debating how to bring AI into their secretive fold. Meanwhile, authors are sharpening their pens, ready to take on what they're convinced is an AI-powered Armageddon for their craft. It all started with a bang when sci-fi mags cried out, "Help! AI stories are flooding our inboxes!" Apparently, some guru influencers were telling their minions to use AI to whip up short stories and then sell 'em off, as if short stories are suddenly the key to Scrooge McDuck levels of wealth. And then, oh boy, by July, the Author’s Guild was shaking in its quills. These big language models are trained on mountains of text, but here's the kicker: some of that text is swiped from pirate treasure troves known as "shadow libraries." Like, arr matey, isn't that, like, a bit illegal? The Author’s Guild wagged its finger at AI companies, saying, "Yo, you're sipping our creative juices without giving us a sip!" The Guild's letter was like an alarm bell ringing in the AI headquarters. But even with these words of caution, some cheeky influencer decided to crack the AI ebook code on Amazon. They're like, "Hey, I've cracked the secret! Let's churn out AI books and roll in those sweet, sweet royalties. It's like fishing, but for words!" 🎣 And then, kaboom! The AI plot thickens. People started selling "Jane Friedman" books on Amazon, except it's not the real Jane Friedman. It's like AI went to a Halloween party dressed as Jane and stole all her candy – I mean, books! 🎃 Now, none of this stuff is new, folks. Garbage books have been floating around Amazon for ages, like cheap knockoff handbags. People even submitted plagiarized stories to literary magazines before AI turned fancy. What's new is the scale – AI is pumping out content like a factory of malfunctioning robots. It's like a literary equivalent of a chocolate factory, except the chocolates are words, and the Oompa Loompas are rogue AIs. And as if that wasn't enough chaos, some authors went all Judge Judy, slapping lawsuits on OpenAI and Meta, saying they swiped their words for training. It's like a courtroom drama where the witnesses are neural networks and the judge is an old typewriter. Ding ding, order in the court! Meanwhile, in a galaxy not so far away, there's this website called Prosecraft that decided to rank books based on their wordiness, adjectives, and other fancy word things. But hold your horses, it's not even AI – it's an algorithm, like a literary Fitbit. And, you guessed it, authors were like, "Hey, hands off our precious words!" and made such a ruckus that Prosecraft had to pack its bags and sneak away. Oh, but that's not all, folks! The New York Times reveals that around 50 companies jumped on the AI bandwagon, crafting, editing, and marketing books with AI magic. But here's the kicker: publishing is like a pie with tiny, tiny slices, and those slices are getting tinier. A survey said authors make peanuts, and only a handful can afford to live solely off their books. It's like a dystopian movie where writers have to fight each other for crumbs in a word wasteland. 💸 So, there you have it, the wild world of AI chaos. It's like a circus, but instead of clowns, there are schemers and suckers, all riding the AI roller coaster. Let's just hope the AI doesn't learn to write books about AI taking over the world, because that's a whole different can of worms! 🎢📚# AI's Wild Ride: From Scammers to Suckers, Let the Chaos Begin Hey there, folks! Rating/Warnings: Mature (16+) / implied violence
Author's notes: I'd like to thank the following for inspiring me to do this series:
@eleanorbloom - her awesome works made me see that there’s so much more to Bryce Lahela than being a meathead and a scalpel jockey
@kat-tia801 - for the captivating AU worlds she built with her TRR series, please check her works here.
Finally, @alwaysmychoices - the same emotion you put into the stories of Charlie & Ethan is something I aspire to achieve with the characters of this fanfic series.
Without these talented writers, I wouldn't be able to get this work out to the world.

PROLOGUE
"Here's the copy of the MRI you requested for Room 502, doctor," a blonde nurse dropped an envelope on the pile already in front of her.
"Thanks Kaley," she smiled and nodded briefly from the patient charts she was finishing in the nurse's station, her brunette bangs slightly rustling at the sudden movement.
She went back to the mountain of paper work she was trying to finish, her Johns Hopkins Montblanc pen squiqqling as she went. On the bottom of the last page, she wrote her full name: Dr. Heather Song, along with her medical license number.
She opened the envelope containing the scan results, and examined the writings on the sheet of paper. No tumors - meaning that the patient's headaches were probably caused by a genetic, albeit irritating migraine. She prescribed a relaxant, and handed it to Danny, along with the rest of the clipboards.
She bit her lower lip as she tapped on her fitbit: 8:39 pm - another 14 hour shift. It was another day at work in the diagnostics team. Thankfully, she loved her job, so she has no complaints for the long hours.
Scrolling, she checked the rest of her messages. Her frown turned into a smile as she read out a text from her boyfriend:
I'm done for the day. Pick you up in 20 minutes?
She took out her phone from the pocket of her white coat and texted him back, agreeing to the said rendezvous.
With a friendly nod to the night shift nurses, she stood up and walked towards the Diagnostics office, her white sneakers squeaking along with her steps. With the door behind her hissing closed, she went to her table and retrieved her sling bag. She shoved her ID badge and her phone inside, while she shutdown her PC. She retouched her lip gloss before shrugging off her coat, revealing a blue crew neck shirt, neatly tucked into her dark jeans.
She freed her shoulder length hair from the tight bun that she usually wears at work and brushed off the few loose strands. Once she was satisfied with her appearance, she grabbed her belongings and stepped out of the empty room, making her way towards the elevator bay.
As she walked through Edenbrook's ground floor hallways, her pale skin glowed against the fluorescent lights. She crossed the atrium and bid her goodbye to Bobby, the hospital's security guard, then went outside, into the cold night air.
A green bomber jacket caught her sight, and her heart immediately skipped a beat. The tall, dark figure had a backpack slung on his left shoulder, his right foot tapping along a mental beat.
"Hey, handsome," Heather slung her arm around Rafael's, tiptoeing to plant a kiss on his cheek. "Missed me?"
Rafael chuckled, as his eyes glistened in the dark, humming in agreement. He returned the compliment with a quick peck on her lips.
He gazed down at her, "Hungry, Dr. Song?"
Heather nodded in excitement. She loved his cooking, but she missed the gelateria near his place.
Fond memories flooded her, making her smile.
A year ago, Rafael first whisked her away to the same Italian ice cream shop to decompress, seeing how stressed she was with the investigation. It was the night after she called in Travis Perry to the authorities.
Ed Farrugia was just one of those patients her team took in to increase Edenbrook's struggling funds. He was Massachusetts' most popular Senator, and the media mileage he gave the hospital prevented it from going under.
But what they first thought as just another day in the job took a turn when Heather diagnosed the politician's illness as lead poisoning. By midday, she was able to confirm that the chemical element was not coming from his newly-purchased house. A quick search engine lookup returned a suspicious article about Travis, his aide. Not wanting to make conclusions without concrete evidence, she raised her own suspicions with her mentors, Dr. Ramsey and Chief Banerji. Collectively, they decided that the best course of action was to quietly alert the authorities.
That day was the first time Rafael walked into the hospital's hallways.  He got assigned to the case once Dr. Naveen called the FBI Boston field office. Rafael's discreet but valiant efforts foiled the perpetrator's sinister plans - of releasing a deadly airborne poison into the hospital room of the unknowing Senator.
He was able to stop the attack and prevented deaths, including Heather's. They later found out that the attacker wanted to take revenge on her due to her earlier attempts to treat the senator. Travis Perry admitted to sprinkling lead in the politician's assorted drinks over the years.
With the criminal charges filed and the case handed over to the district attorney's office, they were able to focus on the budding attraction between them. Several dates and a couple of samba lessons later, it bloomed into a full-on romance.
Heather easily fell for him. He was an easy guy to love. His ways are simple, uncomplicated.
He was a welcome reverie from the chaos of her first  year as a junior fellow of Edenbrook's premier Diagnostics Team. It was Rafael's sweet charms that made the unbearable, bearable. His tenacity to crack the cases he was assigned to matched her own. But his motive - of always being more than willing to serve others and his community, regardless of danger, never failed to amaze her.
When they became an item, his whole community took her in. It was a sincere group of people consisted of his grandmother, his colleagues, and the elderly at the senior center where he volunteered. Rafael also frequently hung out with Heather's friends. Sienna, Elijah, Aurora and even Jackie were nothing but supportive of their relationship.
Snapping out of her head space with a gentle nudge from Rafael, they began to leave the front steps of Edenbrook. They hadn't walked far when a familiar voice calling her name stopped them in their tracks.
'Heather. Dr. Heather Song!"
Both turning around, they saw a tall man approaching them hurriedly. She had to raise her head to gaze at him as he neared.
"ADA Lahela," she saluted him in a greeting. She gave him a polite smile, letting Rafael go briefly to shake the hand of the man in the gray suit. "To what do we owe the pleasure of your company?"
"Something very urgent. I wouldn't spoil your RnR, but this really can't wait until tomorrow." Bryce Lahela, the rising star of the Boston's District Attorney's office, nodded back at Raf, catching his breathe.  "Ah, Agent Aveiro, hi. I believe this also very much concerns you." he also waved at Rafael, a hint of unsteadiness in his voice.
She tried to recall the last time she saw Bryce. It was 3 months ago, on the last day of the trial of Travis Perry. The fierce young lawyer eagerly took on the case of Senator Farrugia, who single-handedly put Perry behind bars for the rest of his life.
Her head perked a little, sensing the quick falter in the young prosecutor's greeting. She waved off his apology, expressing she didn't mind the intrusion. She trusted him enough to make the judgment that this couldn't wait. They were friends after all.
"There's been a new development in the Ed Farrugia case," the assistant district attorney clutched his leather shoulder bag and pulled out a peculiar looking paper.  "Someone sent a blank message to my office email address an hour ago, it included this file attachment," he handed the page to Heather, a look of concern crossing his face.
Beside her, Raf tensed.
The black and white printout, with words spelled from cutouts of magazines, knotted Heather's stomach in a million ways.
It's not over, Dr. Song.
The sinister note made her skin crawl, unleashing a wave of terror within her.
She immediately knew right then that the mirage of her quiet life threatened to crumble. She just didn't know how much.
Tagging also @choicesficwriterscreations for #fics of the week.
Chapter 1 to be posted tomorrow.

17 Questions, 17 People
Tagged by @musetta3 tyvm!! ❤❤
Nicknames: Arty
Zodiac: Virgo
Height: 5′7 / 170cm
Last thing I looked up: “inches to cm” yep 😂
Song stuck in my head: Actually nothing at present.
Number of followers:  656, be surprised if even a third of those are active.
Amount of sleep: 8-9 hours, thank you WFH
Lucky number: Don’t have one.
Favorite instrument: Piano, I used to play for about 10 years.
Favorite song: Yeah, I agree this is impossible. “Otherside” is still my current favorite.
Dream job: Novelist
Aesthetic: Clothes: How I dress is not my personal aesthetic because I have to dress in a way that decreases dysphoria for me. So I order clothes primarily from amazon (men’s shorts and hoodies) and sites like Dapper Boi. My style ends up being really masculine, and I do dig it, especially my Nikes.
If I had the body I want, I’d wear lots of super cute clothing (but then my life would probably be in danger because I’d be a boy in short shorts and halter tops lol). I looove kawaii/cute clothing. If I had a boy’s body I would 100% wear the cutest dresses.
House: I love modern furniture and primary colors, lots of color! Bright colors, too. I like minimalist décor, which is a problem because I have a very small house and lots of stuff.
Favorite author: Jane Austen, every other author I can think of has written at least one thing I didn’t care for.
Favorite animal noise: cat purring. ◀ This is so good @musetta3 I’m keeping it! ❤
Random: Sometimes my anxiety is so bad I have to lie down and hold my breath to make my heart stop racing. I am such a nerd that this now makes me happy because it means I can authentically write Laurie to a certain degree. I also habitually check my fitbit throughout the day just to check my heartrate. I’m weirdly obsessed with my heart.

(sorry if you got left off this time or any other time; I keep editing the list and accidentally erasing people lmao)

tag meme
thank you to lovely @ravenqueen89 for the tag!! <3
Nickname: none that is commonly used in real life (unless you count people mispronouncing my name), adambra to the crying club gc :3
Zodiac: aquarius sun, aquarius moon, leo rising
Height: 5′9″/175cm
House: hufflepuff
Last thing I Googled: "dnd character creator” bc i’m finally gonna get to play and i’m so excited :’)
Song in my head: sledgehammer by fifth harmony because i saw the word “sledgehammer” on a character sheet
Amount of sleep: according to my fitbit app, 7 hours, which is fairly good for me (it’s usually closer to 6 sigh)
Lucky number: i don’t have one but i do like 3, 7, and 10!
Wearing: a black t-shirt that says “revengers” under the rainbow silhouttes of, you’ve guessed it, the revengers (because thor: ragnarok is the only mcu movie i claim); a charcoal gray zip-up hoodie; plaid flannel pajama pants; boot slippers.
Favorite songs: this is an impossible question to answer and i usually just got with something by hozier but i WILL say that i spent most of my allotted daily walk listening to the sailor moon theme song. both the original 90s one because it’s iconic, and the sailor moon crystal one, because i may hate the style of the reboot but that theme tune fuckin’ slaps
Instruments: i grew up playing piano, but i haven’t practiced in... forever. not having a piano doesn’t help.
Random fact: today i drank a kiwi and cucumber smoothie, which is a combination i would never have thought but i’ll tell ya. it was quenching. also it’s stormy right now in edinburgh and my windows are shaking
Favorite authors: ohhh my gosh. i don’t really have super niche answers for this -- richard siken, h.d., tolkien, neil gaiman, maggie stiefvater, cesare pavese, marion zimmer bradley... i am just a littol creacher who loves gay fantasy stuff
Favorite animal sounds: cats purring, kittens doing the smol squeak, whatever ridiculous sound an australian raven (probably not a real raven) makes, and i’ve grown surprisingly fond of tintin’s (molly’s dog) nervous growl lol :’) <3
Aesthetic: ink, amethyst crystals, tarot cards, flowers, mugs
gosh, i feel like i’ve tagged people in a bunch of these lately, let me see if i can find people i think i haven’t tagged before uhh... gonna try @jodhimay, @pvrrish, @kevinparrishes, @eflhame, @gryewaren and basically anyone who’s a recent mutual if you feel like doing it -- i’d like to get to know you better! :D

17 Questions, 17 People
Thank you to @daisylincs for tagging me!
Nicknames: Skye is not really a nicknameable name!
Zodiac: Aries, but I was a premature baby and actually fit in with my due date star sign a lot better, which is Gemini!
Height: 5′5″-ish. The shortest in my family by at least a good inch and I’m mad about it.
Hogwarts House: Hufflepuff.
Last Thing I Googled: Star signs cause I couldn’t remember the dates for Gemini haha
Song Stuck in My Head: A Summer in Ohio from the Last Five Years Soundtrack. I don’t know how I feel about the musical as a whole, but that song is a whole lot of fun.
Number of Followers: I just hit 60! Hello to all the newbies around here! :)
Amount of Sleep: Honestly depends. I’m usually useless on anything less than 5, but I try to get 8 hours cause then I’m fully functional. AoS nights are still my worst for sleep, cause I will just s t r e s s and then wake up too early to watch the ep, and you can honestly see it on my fitbit stats, that Wednesday into Thursday my sleep just DIPS. It’s kind of funny, but probably concerning.
Lucky Number: 8 and 4!
Dream job: God I don’t know. I want to tell stories, and help to give voices to stories that have been ignored and pushed aside over the years. Whatever job lets me do that.
Wearing: COMFIES. But like my nice comfies since I actually left the house. The trousers I have on are like £5 cotton primark jobs that I got like 4 years ago and they have LASTED and have honestly been a staple of my lockdown fashion aesthetic.
Favourite song: This honestly changes on a daily basis. I’m gonna go Jessica by Regina Spektor this time, it’s an honestly delightful little song!
Favorite Instrument: Piano. I love watching people play piano, honestly, I think it is just mesmerising. I’m very bitter about my lack of musical talent, but I will happily admire the efforts of others.
Aesthetic: Surrounded by books, reading or writing, there’s a cup of tea next to me, and a doggo on my lap.
Favourite Author: I have about four different answers for this, so I’ll be short about it. Shakespeare and Aphra Behn are my playwright favs (pls go and read The Rover it is FANTASTIC), Jane Austen for my “classic” novelist fav, Erin Morgenstern for modern novelist fav and for poetry I really love W.H. Auden, go and read As I Walked Out One Evening, it is GORGEOUS.
Favorite Animal: Doggos!!! But also I love giraffes and I always have.
Random: I hate wearing socks and shoes and would honestly live my life barefoot if it was not profoundly dangerous in modern society.

I think everyone that I would tag for this has already been tagged so imma just open it up and say if you want to do it, just go ahead and tag me!

I was tagged by @spiritofcamelot.  Thank you, friend! 🥰
1. Nickname: Nebby, Nebs, or Neb on the internet.  My real name isn’t very conducive to a nickname lol
2. Zodiac sign: Aries
3. Height: 5′1.5″
4. Hogwarts house: Slytherin
5. Last thing I googled: earthquake (it’s the fastest way I know how to get to the USGS’s earthquake page, and I wanted to see if I had been right when I thought I felt one today.  I was - 3.3 so not too bad but after that 5.7 the other day I’ve been on my toes lol)
6. Favourite musicians: SJ Tucker, Damh the Bard, Florence Welch, Hozier
7. Song stuck in my head: I’m listening to piano Ghibli music so nothing really
8. Following now: 631
9. Followers: 538
10. Do I get asks: VERY rarely (I also get a huge spike of anxiety whenever I see the notification so I...rarely encourage it)
11. Amount of sleep: Seven and a half hours, usually.  Nine if it’s a day off
12. Lucky number: 9
13. What I’m wearing: Flannel shirt and a pair of jeans that’s slightly too short for my liking.  Also my fitbit, a tree of life necklace, and my glasses.
14. Dream job: Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh the person who does the planet art for NASA I guess?  Or author.  I’d love to be an author.
15. Dream trip:Scotland and the rest of the UK.  We were supposed to go this year but...alas... 😥
16. Favourite food: Milkshakes maybe?
17. Instruments: Piano, flute(+piccolo), fife, wee bit of guitar, some ocarina, penny/Irish whistle, recorder, and the harp :D  Also singing if you count that
18. Languages: English, currently teaching myself Gaelic and Welsh, but I think I got a bit burned out so while my Duolingo streak is still intact it’s been moved to the backburner for a bit
19. Favourite song: Stolen Season by SJ Tucker.  I cry almost every time TT^TT
20. Random fact: Blue/black strings on a harp are the Fs, and the red strings are the Cs.  This is a system that has been used on harps for hundreds of years.
21. Aesthetic: Space stuff, along with art nouveau, plants, clutterbitch
I’m going to tag @eddiecranes and @puddingparamour - but of course no obligation to if you don’t want to :)

Snapshot Sunday 5/19/19
Hi tumblies! It has been warm and lovely here this weekend, and even though I know the temps are going to dip down over the next few days I’m enjoying it while I can.
Yesterday I went to a local fiber festival and enjoyed some demonstrations of various crafts including knitting machines, weaving, spinning, and prepping/spinning/weaving flax into linen. Some pics: weaving handspun linen; prepped flax ready to be put on a distaff and spun; the owner of Those Yarn Rabbits spinning yarn straight from the bunny. (The bunny’s name is Josie and she’s approximately 80% fluff by volume.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really want that tiny little antique loom, not gonna lie, but I need another hobby like a fish needs a bicycle. (Ditto for angora bunnies.) There were also adorable tiny piggies outside the main barn:
Tumblr media
They were wagging their tails like excited puppy dogs, which was entirely too precious.
I’m going to start putting the reading/book recs up top to give them a bit more visibility and then stick everything else under a cut.
Reading: I finished Calculated Contagion and Calculated Sabotage this week, which are books 2 and 3 of the Calculated series. There are four books in the series (3 novels and a prequel novella, which can be had for free in ebook form) and all of them are lovely cozy mysteries. The banter between the characters is utterly delightful, and I love the different settings and types of mysteries. (Disclaimer: I do personally know the author IRL; however, I would not recommend a book I didn’t enjoy or support, and I don’t get compensated for reviewing or recommending the books in any way.)
Knitting: Still chipping away at Jedi sock #2. Also wound up the yarn for the next pair of socks - I’m going to make Pamina in this yarn and colorway cuz I’m craving some tiny fiddly cables. For some reason all my green socks are a lighter jade or spring green - I don’t have a single pair in a dark forest color.
Spinning: Nope. Also I completely lost track of my weeks and missed the spinning guild meeting on Tuesday, argh. (We meet on the second Tuesday of the month, but my frazzled brain went “oh, this is the third calendar week, nothing to see here!” and skipped right over it. Note to self, make sure to mark it out at the beginning of the month.)
Writing: Honestly I don’t think I wrote anything this past week. I hate saying that, but part of the reason for making these posts is to keep myself accountable, so. Just gotta do better this next week.
Exercise: Struggling but still keeping up with the cardio (the early mornings this week were a huge struggle for some reason). Ordered a super basic FitBit to start tracking stuff so I can tell if I’m making progress or not.
...Honestly (and I’m trying to be very careful about phrasing this so please forgive me if I word something insensitively) I’m really struggling with my body image. I know a lot of this is just my own fault, letting myself get out of shape and gain weight, and even though I know gaining weight isn’t inherently bad or a moral failing I just don’t feel good about the way I look. And I know it took a while to get this way, so it’s going to take a while to change, but I still want to start seeing progress right the hell now.
Adulting: I got most of my herbs transplanted! Ended up needing more planters, oops, but that’s an easy problem to fix. Also got my hummingbird feeder up and cleaned a bunch of gunk out of the fishtank (and gave Doc Ock a stern talking-to about pulling his own weight).
Work has been kind of frustrating recently, just from the standpoint of feeling like I’m not making much progress and being pulled in a million different directions. There’s only so much I can do about that, but I still feel guilty on some level when I keep having to tell people “No, I haven’t worked on your thing yet because I’m still supporting this other project, I’ll get to it when I can.” Sigh.
Apartment is, if not much improved, still at the same level of unfucked. My goal for this week is to KonMari my clothes so I can take whatever I’m getting rid of home for my parents to donate. Next week I can focus on the last bits of unfucking that need to happen before my friend visits for the local art fair.
How has your week been? Did you get something accomplished? What do you want to do this week?

@earnmysong tagged me in this ages ago, but finally got time to sit down and do it. I’ll tag @katries @xpaperheartso @stargazerdaisy @blueeyedbanshee and @sylviebrettsey, unless y’all have done this one already. Also, anyone else who wants to play?
nickname | aside from Katie being short for my legal name? not really? many of my friends refer to me as either “mom” or “my daughter” depending on the friend, but that’s about it?
zodiac sign | Virgo
height | 5′3″
last thing i Googled | hp laserjet m608 ink cartridge (as you can see, it’s been a fun night at work)
followers | 659
song stuck in my head | Fit Hot Guys Have Problems Too from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. It was the last song I listened to getting ready for work today, but also is a full jam.
hours of sleep | anywhere between six and eight is a “good” night, last week proved that I’m functional on two hours, then four hours (five hours later), then 75 minutes nine hours after that, before I knocked out for four and a half hours before another shift. My fitbit says I average 7 hours most weeks.
dream job | is it too cheesy to say “the one I have now”? no, but really, I love what I do. if I couldn’t be in hospitality, I’ve always thought being a lawyer would be really interesting, but I’d probably burn out in like half an hour flat from getting too invested in cases.
lucky number | seven, but tonight it should’ve been 422.
currently wearing | one of my favorite work dresses. It’s a red/white/black diagonal plaid with a ruffle along one shoulder. Very cute, very professional. And my black calf-high boots.
aesthetic | um, I don’t know? lots of jewel tones in my wardrobe, and I tend to go for classic, simple shapes. in home decor, I like things cohesive, and ideally Broadway-themed.
favorite song | Mack the Knife, by Bobby Darin. Or lately I’ve really been feeling the Christian Borle version of Vienna from Smash
favorite author | Susan Mallery
favorite animal noise | sometimes when I’m on the phone with my mom, our dog will hear her say my name, and there’s this very specific happy little whine I can hear in the background. it just makes my heart so full <3
