when andi said her life was taken away from her by someone, everyone in that room - and then emphasized it - my life! do you even know what that means? - and you come back and realize it’s helen saying that and she means it literally because andi is dead.

okay but also there's something...about how nagito learned the truth and suddenly lost all hope in the others
because like
they screwed up
but that's not who they were as he currently knew them
and there's something about how, yeah, they fell into despair, but that doesn't mean they can't become symbols of hope again
like...nagito doesn't believe in redemption
or they've already reached the end of their hope so whatever they get back will never be as much hope as it could have been so they're no good anymore
idk there's something...uncomfortable about that specific reaction

Matsuda threw the scalpel because Ryoko acts exactly like Junko. He asked questions to confirm it was Ryoko and not Junko.
He treats them the same. (Roughly.) Because Ryoko could always have reverted back.
...which really says that Junko trying to kill both Mukuro and Izuru in DR3 is just. a version of literally what Yasuke is doing with her here.
It's playing. In the same way that Yasuke knew he wouldn't hit her, Junko knew she wouldn't hit them. It's a game.

You know, the thing about Taka's FTEs (now that I've had more time musing over them) is that - Taka relies entirely on the assumption that when Hope's Peak uses the word Talent, they mean something that someone is naturally good at without putting forth any effort. As a result, Taka assumes that the other Ultimates are naturally talented and smart and gifted like his grandfather was.
To an extent, with a couple of them, Taka's right. Leon is naturally gifted at baseball. I'd argue that Chihiro is naturally gifted at programming (at least from the discussions in his FTEs). And I think it's likely that Junko is naturally gifted at analysis (but put effort into Despair and Fashionista. Or, at least, chose Fashionista for whatever reason).
But Mondo? Put effort into being a Biker Gang Leader (especially after his brother Daiya died, because he had to be better and prove that he was a good leader despite causing Daiya's death).
Sayaka? She explicitly talks about all of the effort that went into becoming a Pop Sensation (and just how easily that can all slip away from her).
Sakura, too, talks about all of the effort that went into becoming the top Martial Artist, and while you can argue that Hifumi is naturally talented, he goes to great lengths in his FTEs to talk about the effort he's put into spreading the amazingness of fan creation with his school.
So like - Taka is very clearly biased against all of the other Ultimates and says as much, but if he got to know them, he'd find that a good chunk of them are a lot like he is - putting a lot of effort into something they love so that they can be good at it.
And it's ironic that he thinks Makoto is like him. Because Makoto's Ultimate Talent - Luck - is another sort of natural thing that requires no effort. He might be just like Taka in terms of schooling (and all of the others, outside of their Ultimate, are likely the same way), but as far as the function of his Talent...he's just like everyone that Taka by nature does not like. But because Taka likes him, he pretends it's something else.
Idk...it's just interesting to think about, I guess.

okay but here's the question.
and i think this gets addressed in the ddlc+ lore but i haven't gotten back to it yet, so i'm just going to be musing a bit.
monika is an ai. so are the rest of the girls.
is every version of monika in every released game also an ai who is self-aware? or is there just one monika in the version of the game that's being used as a testing ground for the simulation who is self-aware? they didn't release a version of the game that still has a self-aware monika in it, did they?
we don't have multiple self-aware monikas who escaped, do we? or multiple self-aware monikas who are trapped in the multiple games around the world (within the context of the lore)?
there's just one self-aware monika who escaped, right?
right?

honestly, i don't think sayori submitted that new poem to monika.
i think that's completely out of character for sayori to submit it. to write it, less so, but to submit it into a public forum where so many of those people would read it? from a character who has been hiding her depression for who knows how long because she didn't want anyone to worry?
sayori would not have submitted that poem.
monika put that poem there.
and like - this is one of my things with the common interpretation of monika killing sayori, but like. she did not. she did not want that. i don't think you can read any of her actions and think she wanted any of that.
but monika expects the player to check on sayori. monika berates the player for not checking on sayori. (i'm not sure how much monika understands about what choices the player has and does not have at this point.) monika literally makes the player go back to check on sayori by putting that poem in there.
the player never has a choice either. whether to go check on sayori or not.
and monika changes the narrative and sends the player back by putting in a poem that sayori would never have submitted.

so. there's pokemon game called infinite fusions. and a couple of the poketubers i like are doing a soul link of it.
and this pokemon shows up - a fusion of of gengar and latios - and it looks like this:
Tumblr media
and i think, squinting at that bandana, that's kokichi.
but no, no, that's surely not a danganronpa reference, definitely not.
and then i found the page with all of this artist's other fusion designs for the game.
and i saw this:
Tumblr media
and i was like, okay, cool, that's blatantly kyubey but madoka and danganronpa, that's not the same, that's not a confirmation of anything.
this one is:

I think the Monokuma Theaters I'm most fascinated by at the moment are the student talking to Monokuma about how they're just copy-paste of a person and then the discussion about fate.
Tell me more, Junko. These are nice beginning thoughts. Where were you going with them.
