Superfam as Dinosaurs

with some input from the lovely @space-specs because between the two of us i am the one who knows dinosaurs

Clark- Tyrannosaurus Rex (literally mean “king tyrant lizard” and i think that bodes well for Lex not liking Clark. plus theyre big carnivores and iconic!)(i also have a lot of feelings connecting Dinosaur Train to Clark and his story -ketchup)

Kara- Carnotaurus (she feels like a taurus. plus its a large theropod with little horns and i think its cute)

Kon- Compsognathus (theyre tiny and adorable little carnivores and we agree that kon should be small and mighty)

Jon- Archaeopteryx (cute little feathered dinosaur. theyre considered to be the first bird, but theres some speculation over whether or not they could actually fly. and a jon without powers is very good soup)

Lois- Dilophosaurus (we thought about a velociraptor or a raptor in general but this one fits and we love it)

John Henry- Ankylosaurus (armored herbivore. need we say more)

Nat- Dracopelta (theyre tiny armored dinosaurs who are thought to have been able to curn up into a ball like an armadillo. also absolutely adorable)

Karen- Xenoceratops (their name means “alien spiked face” and the horns are a commonality between Kara and Karen. plus they look dope? and we wanted karen to be an herbivore that could still mess you up a la hippopotamuses)

Kenan- Bellusaurus (we wanted Kenan to be the one sauropod, and the bellusaurus is very cute and quite small for a long-necked dinosaur. and bonus! they were found in China!)

Otho- Rhamphorynchus (it’s a flying reptile and it looks like a rat. it fits her so well <3)

Osul- Dimorphodon (also a small flying reptile, so he matches his twin, and while the two flying reptiles are different, they still do look similar)

Jimmy- Iguanodon (theyre green coded and so is jimmy)

Perry- Parasaurolophus (idk theyre my favorite shape of dino nugget and i dont think he’d want it any other way -ketchup)

Cat- Troodon (specifically, this Cat is the one from Lois and Clark, so the feathers really make this match)

Bibbo- Stegosaurus (do i really need to explain this one?)

Lex- Pachycephalosaurus (theyre bald.)

Mercy- Spinosaurus (pretty, dangerous, powerful, and fruity. also a fish eating dinosaur and one of my favorite theropods)

Hope- Baryonyx (another lesbian. a water-based theropod and also big, powerful, and dangerous)

The Eradicator- the dinosaur in the Batcave (its really funny. plus the batcave dino is an automated security system t-rex)

dare you to make a text post listing off your favorite dinos and why

oh my god dont do this to me don’t even start this. i actually don’t really have diehard favorites i just like genuses/families of them as a whole but i’ll try to put my most favorites. i don’t really have favorites surprisingly but heres the basics on it i suppose

first off yes i know they’re the most popular ever but tyrannosaurus. oh my god. so cool i love them so much. just the reality that these 40 foot long beautiful animals walked around and lived and . Augh . they are so so so cool i just want to lay down on one theyre so impressive and i would kill to meet one in an instant. they’re so fascinating and not really for the reason you’d expect. as a kid i didn’t like them too much, because the media and pop culture has made them out to be these dull giant murderous things that don’t even seem real, but when they get portrayed by paleoartists as these giant, beautiful actual real animals. not killers, but animals living their lives. something about that really strikes a chord and they just fascinate me so much. the sheer power of their jaws, their eyesight, their strength, what kind of noises they would’ve made, i just want to see one grow up i want to watch a nature documentary of one where it’s not just a t. rex fighting and killing something. i want to see a tyrannosaur sleeping. i want to see one playing with a leaf. i want to see one drinking water. i want to see it just sitting on a hill and admiring the cretaceous countryside. Sobs violently i’m not even kidding i’m not an emotional person but dinosaurs make me so emotional

theropods are probably my favorite, raptors are really cool just these funky birds with knife feet, they used to be my favorite as a little kid but i tend to like bigger theropods more. spinosaurs are awesome and so odd and possibly one of the most interesting animals just these massive sailbacked fishtailed longsnouted huge predator duck things. wowow. also yuturannus is a fave because we love to see feathers and its the largest dino with direct evidence of feathers found

my favorite non theropods are probably ceratopsians of all kinds, just really interesting animals too, i love how diverse their horn shapes are

I just wanted to say that your gijinkas/anthros are SUPER interesting and neat. I love how they're so unique! How do you decide which ones to make more humanoid vs animalistic?

I decide these things based on the main AU lore. The anthroverse is... more of a design exercise than a full AU on its own i guess, kinda... ‘translating’ concepts into a humanoid (questionable) setting? Characters that are Regular Mortal People in the regular orbverse get human designs, and then we kinda start a spectrum of human to creacher from there.

Even within characters who are Not Mortal People theres differences in like. Well Hyness Does Not look like a person because he super isn’t, but on the flip side Drawcia would look very humanlike with only a few ??? details since she was a painting of a human woman.

I think the main exception to that was Dedede; I don’t know what he is in the regular orbverse to begin with. But I just started out thinking “lol what if he was just a photorealistic penguin” and then I actually started thinking about what bird would make more sense considering Teeth Requirement (hard 2 tell most times but the starting base for the main AU was the anime so. teeth) and landed on nonavian theropod dinosaur.

I have not drawn them yet but Orbverese Furries such as the squeak squad and rick-kine-coo are on a different, sometimes overlapping category called “Furry”
