fav scene from rgu: okay like.... there are many INSANELY good scenes in rgu . so beautiful so cool so fucking thought provoking it is an AMAZING show . however ngl the scene i think and talk the most abt (i literally was talking abt this to my friend the other day who was thinking abt watching it) is the goddamn scene in the dub (idk what its like in the sub i havent seen it i might after i finish watching the dub thru bc i struggle w paying attntion to captions) where they like . show this like triple angle shot of utena and all the girls are staring at her with heart eyes and shit and then they go in the silliest fucking anime dub voice "Shes So Cool" when it is so obvious that they all want to say shes smoking hot and they need her rn . love that scene . i think abt it all the time . its so funny . why would u censor the lesbians of ohtori academy which is apparently all the girls ever

plotline of rgu and what kind of media it is: revolutionary girl utena is a late 90s anime that was heavily influential on the anime that came later and on animation in general (: the plot surrounds utena tenjou, a teenage girl (ish . her relationship to gender is VERY complex and she is at the very least clearly butch to me . bigender utena 4eva) who wants to be a prince and who is sort of unintentionally drawn into a duel for (among other things) the hand of the rose bride, anthy himemiya, a teenage girl with some magical capacities who is treated more as an object than a person by those who want to win her. utena wins the duel, and continues to have to defend her spot as champion despite not particularly Wanting anthy to treat her as her owner and bride-to-be. things obviously spiral down and get way more complicated from there but thats the basic synopsis of the beginning without spoiling later stuff (: (and obligatory warning for anyone intrigued by that that it gets very heavy later on check the warnings ideally on smt besides does the dog die bc there is a Large amnt and imo the does the dog die doesnt really cover them properly or explicitly explain how intrinsically tied to the narrative some of said warnings Are)

rating (almost) every velma dinkley look

classic velma (several series and movies) - literally ushered in a new age of feminism. there weren’t many women on television that were styled like velma before velma. literally NOTHING bad can be said about this look and that’s why her look hasn’t changed as often as fred and daphne’s 10/10

a pup named scooby doo velma - i watched my first pup episodes today and i literally almost teared up several times from how genuinely fucking adorable this velma is. she’s so goddamn SMALL and canonically partially nonverbal and her friends respect her so much. this is probably my favorite velma of all time. ∞/10

what’s new scooby doo velma - her outfit doesn’t change here from classic velma, but her hair’s a different color and is a bit messier, so i’ve listed her separately for this list. i like the added dimension the messy hair adds to this velma: makes it seem like she’s stayed up until 4am on a wikipedia deep dive. very in character but i like her og hair color better so 9/10

mystery incorporated velma - a lot of people don’t like the bows but tbh i’m a fan for some reason. couldn’t explain why. this also gives us a shorter-sleeved sweater instead of one without rolled up sleeves which is something i just noticed. canonically gay but still gets a lot of in-universe comments about how ugly she is which is just not true and it makes me sad 8/10

scoob! velma - points added for canon latina velma but points taken away for gina rodriguez 5/10

be cools cooby doo velma - you are all SO MEAN to this velma because 1. she’s from be cool 2. she’s one of the first (if not the first) to be voiced by kate micucci and that’s just completely not fair. you all just miss mindy cohn and none of that is kate’s fault she’s just doing the best she can. and this velma is cute as hell anyway im always a fan when characters with glasses just have dots for eyes 10/10

linda cardellini velma pre-possession (scooby doo 2002) - like the icon she’s modeled after, she ushered in a new wave of feminism, this time lesbian-oriented. 100000/10

sarah gilman velma (daphne and velma) - terf bangs dinkley. really though she’s not THAT bad the only bad part of this velma is her wig and the actress’s FEW awkward acting moments. you guys just hate things made by women for women and girls 8/10

scooby apocalypse velma - ik shelma happens in this series and i haven’t finished it yet but this is still god tier velma. she’s extremely small you just can’t see it in this pic and she’s got an arc fitting to the series’ dark tone where she’s the one who started the apocalypse in the first place iirc and it’s extremely good. 100000/10

i don’t think they’re harmful for everyone, but they can be if you try to force yourself into them. i identified as butch for a while, but i found it didn’t really fit me after a while. and that’s okay ! i’m personally not comfortable with either label being applied to me, but i know some people find a lot of comfort in them. one of my best friend identifies as butch and i know she really loves the label. and that’s also okay !

disclaimer of course: i’m not bi! so i’m not an Authoritative Source on bi rep and what people want to see more of. i do actively seek out stuff about lgbtq+ characters, specifically girls and women, so i have some recs! however, i’ll also be adding some things that some bi folks i know have recommended because while lesbians and bi women have a lot in common, these are at the end of the day representing them, not me :)

extra-super favorites will be bolded! i’m putting this under a read more because... i read a lot of books. and recommended a lot of them.

books:

her royal highness by rachel hawkins-- this book is a pretty easy read-- don’t expect any massive revelations about life from it, and you’ll have a good time!!! essentially, a bi texan girl named millie, after having her heart broken by her friend-turned-sort-of-gf, goes to boarding school in scotland and ends up rooming with the princess, flora. if this sounds outrageous and sappy, that’s because it is! and i love it! sexuality isn’t a BIG part of this book, but it’s discussed, and it’s just a generally fun enemies-to-lovers story about a bi aspiring geologist and a no-fucks-to-give lesbian princess and them falling in love!

fried green tomatoes at the whistle stop cafe by fannie flagg-- hello this is actually my favorite book! unlike hrh it is... a LOT to read. it essentially follows 2 stories-- one about a housewife named evelyn and her friendship with an old woman named ninny threadgoode who she meets at the old folks home her mother-in-law stays at, and the other about the stories ninny tells her about her sister-in-law idgie and her partner, ruth. the book was published in 1987, and ruth and idgie’s story is set during the great depression, so they aren’t actively labeled as lesbian or bi, but it’s made obvious enough through coding and the fact that ruth has relationships with men prior to idgie while idgie spends her entire childhood pining after ruth. both storylines are fantastic-- they have a lot to say about the lives of southern women in the 30s and 80s, and about race relations at both periods. i’ll warn you that there are depictions of extreme racism and of abuse, but it handles both delicately. it’s a critical piece of southern literature, and a landmark for lgbtq+ storytelling. as a bonus, my copy has a bunch of great recipes in the back, so if you read it you might chance upon an edition with those in it. if you like poignant period pieces about wlw relationships, women losing their damn minds, and abusive men getting what they deserve, this is the book for you! you will sob. this is a fair warning.

you should see me in a crown by leah johnson-- i haven’t personally read this one, but i’ve heard great things about it from everyone i know who has! an anxious black bi girl in indiana has to win prom queen at her mostly-white school in order to get enough scholarship money to go to the college of her dreams, but ends up falling for mack, another girl running for queen. 

@landlessbud wanted me to shout out red, white, and royal blue by casey mcquinston-- you’ve almost definitely heard about it before (first son and prince of wales, enemies-to-lovers with a side dish of political drama), and it is primarily about a mlm romance, but nora is a fabulously fun bi girl side character and there’s a lot of great stuff about figuring out your sexuality in it.

leah on the offbeat by becky albertalli-- i’ve read a lot of complex thoughts on this book, and mine are... i like it! it’s flawed, sure, and i wish it had handled a few things a little better, but you know what? it’s cute as fuck! leah is a fat bi drummer, and she’s super cool! abby is a great love interest, and she goes through a whole bi realization throughout the book. all in all, it’s just a fun wlw high school romcom with a couple solid dramatic beats and a lot of goofball shenanigans. also, if you were an american girl kid??? one scene in this book will make the entire experience worth it for you.

harley quinn: breaking glass by mariko tamaki and steve pugh-- hey, we’re in graphic novel territory now! this book is RAD. a really neat look at gentrification, community solidarity, giving people what they deserve, and fantastic lgbtq+ found families. teenage harleen quinzel is taken in by a group of drag queens, and is caught between two sort-of love interests-- mysterious vigilante the joker and classmate and community activist ivy-- and the different forms of protest and resistance they represent. the art here is STUNNING, and it’s a great read!

laura dean keeps breaking up with me, by the great mariko tamaki with art by rosemary valero-o’connell-- the vast majority of the characters are lgbt, with a lesbian main character, and the supporting cast including a bi nonbinary character, a bi girl character, and two mlm characters! this is mostly a piece about modern lgbtq+ teenagers and the way toxic relationships take over our lives. it’s one of the most cathartic things i’ve read in a LONG time, and especially if you’re at a point where your sexuality feels kind of vague, this is a great read because it embraces that vagueness by not needing to clearly label the characters and celebrates whatever point of clarity the characters are at. probably some of the most gorgeous art i’ve ever seen in a book, with a beautiful black-white-and-pink color scheme and a really neat approach to visual storytelling.

movies:

i don’t watch many movies, because i get bored really quickly hskdhskhds. but the movies i DO watch are usually gay!

wowie zowie its fried green tomatoes again!-- fannie flagg came back to adapt this into a film and HOT DAMN is it just as good. the plot is primarily the same, with some stuff obviously cut or trimmed to make it a two hour movie instead of a 450 page books fhsjdhsjhds. mary-louise parker plays ruth!!! it got a GLAAD award and an oscar nomination, and god it’s good. there are a couple scenes in here that i think are going to be in my mind until the day i die. the level of pure butch energy that idgie radiates in this film is a one-hit k.o. and it KILLS me.

birds of prey-- listen. this is not a profound movie. harley’s bisexuality isn’t emphasized, and romance is basically nonexistent in this movie. there is some... quite graphic violence. that said, this movie is so fucking fun. it’s mostly just a bunch of women fucking up everyone who crosses them while margot robbie gives a gleeful performance that you can just TELL she enjoyed the fuck out of. the last 20-30 minutes of this movie are the absolute best part, with a long sequence that kind of reinvented what an action/superhero movie could be for me. again, bisexuality isn’t a massive part of this-- it’s mentioned, and then harley just continues on in her gloriously campy outfits and breaks peoples’ knees. again, i CANNOT overemphasize just how fucking good the last 20-30 minutes are. this movie knows what it is and it embraces it. also, women beating people up in costumes that don’t horrifyingly objectify them is always a plus!

imagine me & you-- i’d be remiss if i didn’t mention this one, considering it’s probably one of the most iconic wlw romcoms. a woman named rachel, while at her own wedding, meets a florist named luce, and they fall in love. it’s a very sweet look at questioning your sexuality when you were already secure in it, and rachel’s husband wins “most genuinely understanding guy in a wlw movie” award. it has a lovely happy ending, and articles have been written about the importance of rachel being a bi character who a) gets a happy ending and b) isn’t shamed for figuring out her sexuality later on or slutshamed. this is just... a sweet movie. it’s the romcom a lot of us need in our lives. also, a LOT of floral imagery.

tv shows:

ok, i’ve got a confession. i reaaaaaaally don’t watch much tv. seriously, the only shows i’ve watched a substantial amount of recently have been parks and rec, schitt’s creek, the good place, and gilmore girls. i have a really REALLY short attention span.

that said, eleanor from the good place is bisexual!! the good place is a really wild ride, it’s half afterlife comedy half philosophical musing, and it will almost certainly make you gasp, laugh, think, and also probably cry. also, eleanor is just buckets of fun and she, like many of us, is often blown away by tahani (jameela jamil) and her beauty.

ummm shows i haven’t watched entirely or at all but that have bi women in them and seem pretty good: black lightning, sex education, jane the virgin, arrow. 

if you haven’t already watched it, do not believe what people are going to tell you about watching glee. it will drag you into a pit of despair and white men rapping, and it’s quite biphobic to top it all off.

i wanna talk about marx kirby because i love him so here we go. please don’t shove me into a locker again this is mostly gonna be about my marx gijinka but basically all of these can apply to his canon form too, of course (if u are like me and think that his wings can be used like arms

first off he’s nonbinary and also a lesbian. don’t fight me on this, if you do YOU’RE the one going into the locker, buddy! (he’s a soft butch). anyways. despite being nonbinary and prefering he/him pronouns he kind of prefers being called things like sister, queen, princess, girlfriend, etc. he also binds most of the time! surprisingly enough he’s a very big advocate on healthy binding. he is 23 years old! for simplicity’s sake i like to think that pop star has the same rotation and revolution speed as earth, so!

marx is very good at some circus things. balancing on a ball is one of them, of course, but a few others are: rola bola, juggling, some aerial acrobatics (trapeze is not one of them). he’s also good at dancing. and playin violin. and riding unicycles. and playing violin while on unicycles he’s also real good at pantomiming but he will totally suddenly yell or speak to startle n catch people off guard

he has autism and ADHD, however i am not educated on ADHD to a point where i’m comfortable talking about it so i will be quiet about it. some of his fav stims, however, are playing with slime, humming, swaying back and forth/shuffling, and flapping his wings/arms when he is happy/excited. he’s also almost always doing some sort of dance to add on to the dancing bit, he’s pretty good at it. especially ballet dancing, and he incorporates that into other styles. while marx isn’t troubled by things like depression, dancing is one of the things that never fails to make him genuinely happy!

he is a noddy! but he’s has insomnia. while he sleeps as much as the average person (bout 8 hours plus an afternoon nap sometimes), for a noddy that is bad considering i like to think they sleep for 14-18 hours a day because of this though he had more than enough time to learn how to do all the things he can do! he also learned how to cook very well, however he is extremely lazy and only cooks for himself when he absolutely has to, so no one really knows he’s a great cook. except his sister circe, my kirby oc

marx is a sucker for physical interaction and will cuddle with anyone that allows it. gryll, being his best friend, is always the cuddle victim. however they enjoy cuddles too so it’s ok

i theorise that marx got all of his powers + his wings from nova! he is able to use his powers nowadays but it hurts him. except for his wings! he can fly and stretch n flap them whenever he wants.

1.Nickname: uhm believe it or not , but I actually have quite a few? My bff has a long list of nicknames for me that we came up with years ago like pi, 12 etc. Additionally, my little sis calls me Lizzy, or Liz. My family sometimes call me Lies (or my completely embarrassing nickname that I will never reveal) And the crew at Uni call me Dog ( it was a Pavlov reference goddamn IT) and Destroyer of Civilization. 

2. height: like 1.70 m? For a Dutch person, I am kind of smoll but at least I am taller than @juliettesferrar 

3. fav school subject: in highschool, it was definitely history. In my first semester of University College, it was political theory theory ( although yup, definitely want to hear less about white, almost always straight, white guys and more about all the other awesome philosophers)

4. something I want to learn: I am a Ravenclaw you should not ever ask me this, there is too much omg. I will just limit it to the things I want to learn most I guess.  Latin and Hieroglyphs, sword fighting, cooking, singing( that will never happen but let me dream about being able to write and sing a song for a girl okay).

5. fav quote: ehhh difficult.  Maybe a Beau Taplin one? I really like The Connection: My heart is not captured easily. I just finished tell me again how a crush should feel which was also very well-written and I already know I will reread it.  Shatter me series are great (the WRITING OMG); so is the Grisha trilogy (hate Mal though)/ pretty much anything by Leigh Bardugo. The Stravaganza series is something special and I love, love Every day by David Levithan. There are more, but I will stop now.

FD: You're known to me for your iconic images of queer and lesbian women. One of my favorites is Miggi & Ilene, Los Angeles 1995. Before I moved here, LA was lore to me by several friends as a power lesbian mecca. Which I feel like I've maybe slid next to or observed from a kind of proximity, but I'm not in it. I was wondering if you could address this myth, or maybe it's not a myth.

CO: Usually, what connotes a power lesbian is financial success. And often that comes through the industry. And I think the industry in terms of LA is a very different kind of idea than the queer community that I came out of in San Francisco. You have this mechanism in place for a power lesbian here. And yeah, I know them. I know some of them. I know Ilene obviously. I made the picture of her, and other power dykes so to speak. But it's funny because they've always felt very different from my community here. Miggi and Ileen threw my first party for me at their house, and I remember they were really nervous about having all my friends from the leather community, that I had made portraits of, come to their home. And then after the party, they were like, “Oh my God, your friends are some of the nicest people I've ever met.” And I'm like, “What the hell did you think like that we were gonna come in and like trash your house?” So, it is interesting, now I exist through a collector base from that power queer world of LA, and I have financial success at 56 years old. My friends and I were scrappy, and the power lesbians seemed really foreign to us. And that's partly where Being & Having came around. We would all wear our fake mustaches and go out on motorcycles outside of Amelia’s, which was the only seven day a week lesbian bar in LA. These lipstick lesbians would come out and we'd be there with our mustaches and our chaps and being all sassy, like, "Hey babe, you wanna ride home on my bike?" And they'd be all like (screams calmly)...

FD: They didn't take you up on it?

CO: No, you know, because butchness down here was a very hard thing.

FD: Is it still?

CO: No, I don't think so anymore. You know where you could have a working class kind of lesbian identity, is Long Beach. Like they're DYKES. Here, up in the hills, like Hollywood, they're not dykes — they're les-bi-ans. And so, there is a, you know, so when you think of power lesbian, the thing that you have to think of is that there was like a class division. That was very pronounced throughout the late 80's and 90's. Because like my friends and I, we were just doing shit like starting Club Fuck or Cinematic. We were creating queer performance culture here. Silverlake was awesome because it was queer bookstores, gay male leather clubs. It wasn't like Silverlake now. So Silverlake,  as a community, you know when I lived there, and you know a lot of my friends still live there, it was  like a queer mecca like the Castro was. It was fascinating.

FD: The author, Chris Kraus once said, or wrote, that when she was younger, sex was one way that people would traverse class — at least temporarily. AI was noting that among young people I know, that's not really so. It seems like people are sleeping with people in their same class. I was wondering when you were talking about these different classes of queerness, if hookups would break some of those divides at all?

CO: Not really in my group of friends. And I didn't think that we thought about things that way either. I think that that might be more of a gay male aspect in relationship to this idea of a Sugar Daddy, but I don't think that my generation of dykes thought about that. And also if you were butch in a butch-femme relationship, you're supposed to be the one that takes care of your partner if you're like in a butch-femme relationship. I've always been butch, and I'm butch...so....it's what I prefer. I had one femme girlfriend.

FD: Well what made the exception?

CO: I just always loved her.

1. Femme or butch? 

for type, im vry easily wooed by butches tbh

as for myself, im genderfluid + heavily lean towards butch-ish for one gender + have been gettin more comf w that term for myself. the 3 genders i switch between, ive described as sharp, dainty and tired, for reason of not really being comf w gender labels aside from nonbinary. sharp/tired r kinda butchish, moreso sharp. like leather jackets, ripped jeans, dress pants/shirts, defs flannels (which r a given for any mood im in tbh) while tired is like mb softer, more focused on flannels + loose tank tops/shirts, shorts + certain skirts, comfy clothes, and the like   

ive found that i’m leaning more towards butch lately too, like i’ve been a lot more comfortable with pants and a nice top than i have w dresses or most skirts + im wondering if i was just hanging on to femininity for sake of society, so those r things 2 think abt. i still feel comf in them sometimes, but it’s getting much less often. gender’s weird, i still cant cling to one bc of how pressuring that is so genderfluidity is still smth for me + it shifting to different percentages is okay (im thinking out loud @ this point, but its helping so i hope its interesting to read)

aaahh theres a lot of diff aesthetics i could go into, but i have a tag if ur interested in a visual representation? basically, cosy homes, forests, wooden steps and bridges, cats, girls/nbs, water, plants, and old video game stuff, and clouds/skies. i’m sure there’s more in there, but for a good rule of thumb !! as for like dressing aesthetic, i like to look rly gay + attractive and a lil showy? like my shorts r Short and i love crop tops + a lot of my shirts show my bra thru them, + i like showing it when i can, like sports bra + a tank top is a fav look of mine bc i can make it look like my bra is a trim on the shirt + it’s cute. i’ve been wearing dresses less often, but occasionally, i like to rock one. id love a pair of combat boots but i have like size 11/12 feet + most stores dont carry that size + im hesitant to buy some online.

its rly hard to find any, i have like walmart converse knockoffs atm + theyre a beige/grey color im not that huge on, it kinda reminds me of sandalwood but depressed

there was the undercut!! and i have that down now c: next step is to dye it blue and mb some purple. i wanna bleach it if i’m gonna dye it, but im hesitant to do that bc of how damaging it is, but since my hair’s been cut a cpl time almost all the color is out now, so i think itll b ok if i take good care of it.

i went to a cafe w someone (i think they were nb but i cant remember, it was like 2 yrs ago about ) and they were impossible to talk to bc they just kept saying “im awkward sorry” @ everything and like any conversations i tried to maintain were all one-shot responses, and like that was a lil frustrating. like i dont hold it against them or anything, more in a sense of i was rly tryin 2 carry it and just couldnt

I’d like a lot of color, most weddings ive been to are just b/w and bland for my taste (they’ve also all been straight tho so theres that.) it’s kind of wild to think that i might b married someday, but it’d b rly nice. i just haven’t thought much abt the planning of one. it’d b rly gay tho, probs give out tiny gay flags at each seat, and the cake could b lesbian flag colors. im rly drawing a blank on this, but i know id want all my friends around the country + world to be there.

i definitely want to live in a port town at some point !! idk where i’d like to settle down, ideally somewhere that doesnt get much hotter than 90 degrees + has lots of parks + is big enough for some events, like pride stuff, little festivals, a farmer’s market, and places to do things, such as a movie theater, bowling alley, mb an aquarium, if not one in a nearby town. hiking trails r also good.

on a sunbeam!!! its a huge inspiration for me, and i love it so much. it always puts me in such a good mindset when i read it, and the artist is my age, so it makes me feel like I can also accomplish great things if i rly put my heart into it!! which is such a good feeling, and it has great representation + characters that i love, and its rly gay, and in space and theres ships shaped like fish + its gorgeous : D i could go on for hrs abt it + how important it is to me. theres an nb character too, and like the aspect of found families is one that rly hits home and it helped me get thru a rough time of my life + better accept myself as queer/gay.

talking abt being gay w other girls/nbs is lovely and cathartic, i never got to growing up bc i lived in a homophobic town + i was like dealing heavily with internalized homophobia and body/gender dysphoria so i was ace for a bit. talking more abt like sexual attraction + aesthetic attraction is new to me, and that’s been a process to get to, but it’s nice that I can now do so w/o being belittled or barraged by insult. i also just love the thought of being w someone, and daydreaming abt when that happens is really nice. also,, girls + nbs r a blessing and brighten my day and im so glad im attracted 2 them

absolutely communication, that’s a need. i had a bad experience w someone bc she wasn’t communicative at all, and failed to tell me that we weren’t dating despite us going on several dates + kissing??? like i wont go too into it, but hatchi matchi it was a mess. so yeah, communication, affection, and like reassurance that they actually want to be with me, and that my presence is wanted and enjoyed. I got a lot of “i dont care”s for answers last sort-of relationship, and that was rly discouraging. another turn on is for them to initiate talking and things, like holding hands or planning to hang out + such. consent is another big one.

i have lots of interests!! im obsessed w steven universe, its my fav show (and if u ever have time, we should totally watch it together sometime, i rly think you’d love it, it’s super gay + heartwarming.) i really love playing music and learning new songs, which im rly great at memorizing. talking to friends + gettin 2 know them better is always nice and fun. i like to draw new things + see the different ways ppl draw, so seeing art on here is always fun for me. i’m also rly into polygon videos (it’s a youtube channel, not like videos abt polygon haha) and this podcast called the adventure zone. season one just ended, so i might start listening to another one called friends at the table. i rly wanna start a podcast w someone, but can never find anyone to start it with. idk what I’d talk abt but if i could find a partner for it, i think it’d be a lot of fun. mb smth abt games or books/queer representation in media. doing a dnd podcast would also b rly fun, but a lot of work + editing so mb later down the road !! im blanking on other interests atm, but animations and cartoons r lovely and i aim to make something in that field one day, if not just a comic.

my hobbies r mostlyyyy drawing, dnd things now every thursday, hanging w my friends, playing video games, sometimes writing (i rly wanna start a comic, and im tryin to get my butt into gear on it), goin to parks, listening to music, and goin 2 events w roe + cesar, two of my friends. sometimes ill play music!! i need to get more than the keyboard i’m lending, but i love performing. ill also watch leg birds on youtube, theyre a lesbian couple that plays gams + theyre rly sweet. 

33. Do you love easily or does it take time for you to warm up to someone?

its easy for me to love friends, doesnt usu take me more than a few months of knowing them if were talking a lot. as for falling in love, that takes me a lot longer. ive never rly been in love w someone. i thought i was once, but rly it was just my first gay experience w someone and i wanted it to be perfect so i projected a lot of things + made it better than it seemed to myself for the duration of it, which wasn’t healthy, so i wanna avoid doing that again, + take things slower next time. or at least for what they are.

a few times, they were just crushes tho, so it wasnt too too bad

i used to be a vegetarian!! for like a yr, but it was difficult for me to eat and feel full, and i was pretty underweight, so i stopped.

i think like 16-17? it took me a bit to get words for identity, like lesbian/nonbinary and the like, but i always knew, like id call myself an individual as opposed to gendered terms that i was referred to, and always felt rly yucky w deadname + the wrong pronouns

i’d like a partner or two, to get some bongos- i got to play some a couple weeks ago, and it was the most fun i’ve had playing anything!! having smth with an instant response that i could make up rhythms with was really rewarding and so much fun. i know i want a cat at some point, to go on cute dates + cuddle and kiss a lot w someone, to visit my friends in other places, dye my hair, get a better job, to travel a bit, make a comic, go to college for animation and storyboarding, mb go to camp at some point, and I’d like to make some more friends here, i’m already making some, which i’m super happy about, but it’s always nice meeting new ppl

I spent half of my childhood in an extremely conservative town, so I had some really awful misconceptions about lgb people. and I think I doubled down on them a little bit when I was a child because of the way I was bullied for looking and acting like a lesbian

reach out to other LGBT people. make lasting connections with your peers and listen to the advice of your elders. don’t be afraid to ask for help

a coworker yelled at happy hour “WHO’S GAY HERE” and everyone kind of uncomfortably looked around the room. I didn’t come out then but uh. that’s kind of the feel for how it went.

I’m serious about reaching out to people. being gay can feel so isolating, but if you make connections it’s so much easier to endure.

jean is great. i’ll do a little intro to her cause i don’t know how much you know

she’s aj’s half sister. she’s three years younger than him and sam’s best friend (they’re both 21). she’s trans and transitioned relatively young at about 10. their mom is very Liberal (Liberal-liberal not leftist) so she was able to get the medical care she needed and transitioned easily into girlhood. she and sam both went to a private high school where they met. she was drawn to how “butch” he was. sam was much more shy when they first became friends at about 14 years old, but jean was outgoing enough to make him come out of his shell organically. 

jean opening up to sam about being trans is what helped him realize he was also trans. before he came out, she had a bit of a crush on him, and was previously bewildered that he was not a lesbian despite being so masculine.

they were on the volleyball team together. aj ended up spending a lot of time with jean and sam while he was around, because their mom was always away so he had to drive them everywhere. as a result, he and sam got to know each other “through osmosis” despite not being close friends.

when they were teenagers, jean used to look up to aj a lot. he would help her and their little sister lili get to school in the morning and take them where they needed to be. he tried to cheer her up when she was upset or dysphoric. 

when aj went away to college, he and jean grew more distant. eventually there was A Thing that caused jean to resent aj a lot, and their relationship is a bit strained in adulthood. she often chastizes him and does not approve of his relationship with her best friend. one time she got together with aj’s girlfriend out of spite. 

she’s closer to their little sister than aj is, because they still live together and she spends a lot more time hanging out with her. aj still treats her like a little kid despite her being 15. lili likes aj but can find him overbearing in comparison to their sister.
