As someone who has been a fan of the Beano since they were a little kiddo, I was really upset to hear of the passing of one of my favourite artists, David Sutherland.
His drawings and comics have a very special place in my childhood, I grew up reading the Bash Street Kids every week and collecting past comics and Beano books that he made art for.
He illustrated for the Beano for just over 60 years and his art has brought smiles to generations of kids and personally, has helped me learn to read and inspired me to create.
He was a very special man to so many people.

I haven't been able to stop thinking about Biffo the bear.
This is how I imagine the Brits would treat Hello Kitty and Elmo.

Researching comic book characters of the 40′s and 50′s so that a kid character in my 50′s themed play can realistically talk about his interests. All I have to say is...
What is Biffo the Bear? Why is Biffo the Bear? Who drew it? Who decided it was appropriate for children? If it didn’t have a comprehensively sourced wikipedia entry I would assume that it was some sort of creepypasta/FNAF character. It looks like it’s drawn to be deliberately upsetting...

Teddybear modelling in Zbrush
I drew a sitting straight and side view of Diebrig’s Biffo and started modelling it in Zbrush. The shape came together quickly and the most difficult things to do have been the details. Luckily this asset won’t be animated so I don’t have to think too much about stretching textures or anything like that. I have flattened the bulging eyes a little bit too, something that would be an issue when eyes would have to move around and would be easier to be kept as spheres. I’ve looked at some Zbrush online tutorials , manily about how to retopologize in the software and ways to get clean edges and have learned to Zremesh the model before adding detail. The topology on the head is not remeshed yet but everything else is looking alright. The biggest reason for doing this for me is to avoid retopologizing in Maya. I would now continue sculpting the head and add fur and some more details.
