I just read a message I got from a fellow tumblr user “explaining” that bolsonarrogant of Brazil is actually a really good and honest guy, and I should ignore anything from that “communist” newspaper, The Guardian UK.  Riiiight.  I’m sure bolsonarrogant’s endless scandals and fuckups, including burning vast swathes of rainforest, ignoring science, insisting plague vaccines will turn people into alligators, and allowing/causing (it’s the same thing, really) the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Brazilians is all simply fake news.  First of all, a dear friend lives in Brazil, so I am well aware of what goes on there, and she is no “communist.”  Second, The Guardian is about as far from “communist” as a paper can get.  Shit, they *endlessly* ragged on Labour before the last UK election! Third, from all trustworthy accounts, bolsonarrogant is a sub-equatorial merkin von bankrupt analogue.  I pity everyone who buys into his thoroughly corrupt, ignorant bullshit.
I would also like to know how TF this person was able to send me that disturbing message (to which I was unable to reply!), seeing as I have msgs turned off for all but mutuals. WTF, tumblr?!

Covid crisis "out of control", says expert as president Jair Bolsonaro continues to resist lockdown
Brazil's coronavirus catastrophe has deepened further after more than 4,000 daily deaths were reported for the first time since the outbreak began in February last year.
At least 4,195 people were reported to have lost their lives on Tuesday, taking Brazil's total death toll - the world's second highest after the US - to nearly 337,000.
Brazil also reported 86,979 new infections. Experts fear a record 100,000 Brazilians could lose their lives this month alone if nothing is done.
"It's a nuclear reactor that has set off a chain reaction and is out of control. It's a biological Fukushima," said Miguel Nicolelis, a Brazilian doctor and professor at Duke University in the US, who is closely tracking the virus.
Despite the growing crisis, Brazil's far-right president, Jair Bolsonaro, continues to resist the idea of a lockdown and downplay the pandemic.
"There will be no nationwide lockdown," the president told reporters on Wednesday during a visit to the southern state of Santa Catarina - a bastion of Bolsonaro support. "Our army will not go out on to the streets to keep people in their homes. Freedom is priceless," added the former army captain who continues to tour the country and mingle with crowds despite the risks to public health.
Brazil, which has 212 million citizens compared with the US's 328 million, is expected to overtake the US weekly average for daily deaths in the coming days.  ...

Last week, Brazil's far-right president Jair Bolsonaro declared he would not get vaccinated before attending this week's UN General Assembly in New York. "Why would I get vaccinated?" the confused gentleman asked in an online broadcast."
Coming from a country that just reported 150,000 new Covid cases in one day (a number that may reflect previously unreported cases over the last few months), his question is preposterous. But according to The Guardian, Bolsonaro had "signaled that he will snub New York City vaccination rules," and that he was nowhere near the point of getting a Covid shot. "Once everyone has been vaccinated, I'll decide my future."
Cut to Bolsonaro in New York, looking a bit snubbed as he stands outside an eating establishment, eating a slice of pizza.
Unvaxxed #Bolsonaro Forced to Eat Pizza on the Street in NYC: Bolsonaro's in NYC for the UN General Assembly; he boasted that he would ignore a vaccine mandate for attendees.
However, it seems city's restaurant managers aren't letting him bend the rules.

Navy and air force – who reportedly bought over 30,000 pills – claim drug supposedly being used to treat pulmonary hypertension
Opponents of the Brazilian president, Jair Bolsonaro, are demanding answers after the revelation that the country’s armed forces had splashed out on tens of thousands of impotence pills.
“We must understand why the Bolsonaro administration is spending public money on buying such large quantities of Viagra,” the lawmaker Elias Vaz declared after Brazilian media reported the seemingly unorthodox acquisitions on Monday.
The navy and air force – who between them had reportedly bought more than 30,000 pills – offered an innocent explanation: the drug was supposedly being used to treat pulmonary hypertension.
However, many were unconvinced. A report in the O Globo newspaper suggested the dosages that had been purchased were generally used to treat penises, not blood pressure.
“How do you feel knowing that we’re even paying for Viagra for the armed forces?” the Brazilian singer Zélia Duncan asked her hundreds of thousands of Twitter followers. “I feel impotent,” one replied.
