CHANEL LAUNCHES BEAUTY LINE FOR MEN
Chanel has expanded its portfolio with its first men's make-up line.
Titled "Boy de Chanel" the small makeup collection consists of three products: a foundation in four shades, a matte lip balm and eyebrow pencils in four different colors. It is the first time in its 108-year history that a make-up collection for men has been developed. Korean actor Lee Dong-wook is the face of the new Boy de Chanel campaign.
'Just as Gabrielle Chanel borrowed elements from the men's wardrobe to dress women, Chanel is now getting inspiration from the women's world to capture the new aesthetics for men. With Boy de Chanel, the first makeup line for men, Chanel confirms the ever-changing codes of an unchanging vision: beauty is not a question of gender, it is a matter of style,' said the French brand in a press release. This is not the first time that a luxury fashion house has introduced a make-up line for men. In 2013, Tom Ford launched a small collection of concealers, eyebrow powders and a bronzing gel for men. The Boy de Chanel will be available from September 1 in South Korea. It will be made available worldwide in November this year online and from January 2019, in Chanel boutiques.

What is your current makeup routine?
This is a question I get asked far too many times and for ages I wasn’t bothered to answer because it’s been the same for the longest time. But as of the last few months I’ve changed my products a little bit so here goes!
Primer:
This depends on my mood at the time but I switch between Benefit porefessional, Bobbi Brown face base and Chanel le Blanc de Chanel illuminating balm
Base:
I pretty much don’t ever wear foundation. If anything, maybe once every 2-3 months. When I do wear foundation, I use either NARS sheer glow which is my HG, Maybelline fit me matte + poreless or Chanel vitalumiere aqua which is a super light foundation. I personally just love to wear concealer for places that needs concealing as I like my skin to breathe and I don’t like the heavy feeling of wearing foundation. My HG concealers are Tarte shape tape for under my eyes and any blemishes I may have and Maybelline instant age rewind for the centre of my face (nose bridge, chin and bit of the centre of my forehead). Lastly, I lightly bake under my eye area with Laura Mercier translucent powder and only powder my oily areas with the remaining product left on the brush
Eyes:
I’m obsessed with Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow palettes, they’re honestly amazing and the colour pay off is so good! I’m currently loving the soft glam palette and I use the shades burnt orange and sienna all over my lids and then sometimes play around with the other shades depending on my mood. I always smudge under my bottom lashes the shades mulberry and cyprus umber. As I wear eyelash extensions I don’t feel the need for eyeliner but occasionally I may use a liquid liner to apply a super thin line just to make my lashes appear thicker. I wear Clinique lash power mascara religiously on my bottom lashes
Eyebrows:
I’ve been getting my eyebrows microbladed for 5 years now so they’re generally quite full but once I have on eyeshadow, my base etc my brows look quite ashy and dull so I always go over with the Ardell dark brown eyebrow powder to fill them in and perfect them to my liking. I then go in with Glossier boy brow gel
Bronzer:
Hands down Benefit hoola bronzer is the best bronzer ever made. Cannot fault it and I use this all over! Occasionally I might also use NYC sunny bronzer
Blush:
Depends on my mood but I switch between MAC melba, Hourglass mood exposure and NARS sin
Highlighter:
I’ve been obsessed with the Victoria Beckham x Estee Lauder modern mercury highlighter for years now but it was a limited edition product so it’s not available anywhere. If I’m not using that I like to use BECCA champagne pop
Lips:
My everyday lip depends on my mood but my most used combo is MAC soar lipliner, Chanel lip crayon in rosy wood, Colourpop belle lipstick and BECCA malibu soleil (Chrissy Teigen collab) lipgloss. I know it’s a little excessive using 4 products but it works!
Setting Spray:
Urban Decay all nighter setting spray! Hands down can’t live without. This has been the same for so many years, I can’t seem to find anything better than this for my skin!!

2017 Skincare Favorites
I am SO excited to be writing this post for you guys. If there’s one thing I absolutely love to talk about, it’s skincare and this year has been a damn good year for skincare. So, I went through and thought about each category of products that I tend to use on my face every day (which seems to be excessive, but they’re all essential, I promise you) and picked my favorite of each! So here is my no-nonsense overview of my favorite skincare products of 2017!
Favorite Cleansing Products
Favorite Makeup Remover: Dior Micellar Water & Eraser Cloth
I have totally gotten into that whole double cleansing trend, except technically I cleanse my skin not once, not twice, but three times. And boy oh boy, has it made a difference! I start by removing both my face and eye makeup with the Dior HydraLife Micellar Water. For years, I have stuck by the Bioderma micellar water, but the Dior one has definitely got it beat. I never liked using the Bioderma one on my face because it sometimes made me breakout (I have no idea why), but the Dior one works perfectly with my skin. Then I wash my face with the cleanser that I will talk about below and then I’m still not done! I use this Makeup Eraser cloth (review here) to pick up any last bits of makeup I may have missed in the process!
Favorite Cleanser: Neostrata Acne Clear Clarifying Gel Cleanser
I am a huge fan of Neostrata cleanser. In addition to this one, I also love the Glycolic Acid cleanser but I wanted to use this Acne one up and I ended up absolutely loving it! I made the decision a couple years ago to cut all acne skincare products out of my routine because they seemed to be making my acne worse rather than better (read about that here). However, this cleanser has such a low concentration of salicylic acid (2%) and you’re washing it off immediately so I find my skin doesn’t even notice it. The real reason I love this cleanser is because it cleans super deep and makes my skin feel instantly fresher and less clogged.
Favorite Tool: Clarisonic Smart Profile & Luxe Cashmere Brush Head
I have used my Clarisonic Mia for years and it’s definitely something I’ll never stop using. I recently upgraded to the Smart Profile (review here) which is the big daddy of all Clarisonics and makes me feel so boujee. I use it once a day at night with the Neostrata cleanser mentioned above, but I think the real winner is the Clarisonic Luxe Cashmere Brush Head. On top of having acne-prone skin, I also have extremely sensitive skin. I found all of the other Clarisonic brush heads to irritate my skin rather than make my skin better. They just aren’t soft enough. But the Cashmere brush head feels like you’re rubbing a newborn kitty all over your face. It’s pretty great.
Favorite Creams:
Favorite Day Cream: Reversa Radiance Cream SPF 30
For years, I stuck to my Clarins Hydra-Essential Gel and while it was an exceptional moisturizer, there are definitely better ones more suited to my skin type. So I started to branch out and try more and more creams. And then I stumbled across this Reversa Radiance Cream and fell in love. It contains Vitamin C and is specially formulated to reduce the appearance of brown spots and acne marks. It evens out skin tone and restores its radiance, while offering protection against the sun. It was AMAZING at how quickly it started to fade my acne marks.
Favorite Night Cream: Clarins Multi-Active Cream
As mentioned, I used to love the Clarins Hydra-Essential Gel, but now that I’m an old lady (AKA 22), it was time to start looking into some anti-aging products. And the Clarins Multi-Active cream was a great place to start! It’s thicker than the normal gels I used to use which made a huge difference for my skin. Apparently I was wrong all my life and I don’t actually have oily skin. My skin was just overproducing oil because I wasn’t putting enough moisture on my skin! Ever since I started using a thicker, more moisturizing cream, my skin has stopped producing excess oil and I don’t breakout as frequently. Read the full review here.
Favorite Serum: Sunday Riley CEO Rapid Flash Brightening Serum
This isn’t just my 2017 favorite serum. This is my favorite serum of my whole life (even though I’ve only been using it in 2017). Like the Reversa Cream, it also has Vitamin C in it so it was amazing at fading my acne marks and scars (that was definitely a theme with my skincare in 2017). It also helped with preventing any lines and wrinkles (especially from all that stress this year) and it smells like oranges. Oranges! What could be better? Read my full review on it here.
Favorite Eye Cream: Rodial Dragon’s Blood Eye Gel
I have a huge love-hate relationship with eye creams. I know how important they are and how you should use one every day and night. But for the longest time, every eye cream I tried gave me those little bumps under my eyes. Milia they’re called! They are blocked pores where oil gets trapped under the skin and form a small cyst. Mmm, that sounds lovely. But anyways, that was because every eye cream I was using was just too rich for my skin. So when I finally found this Rodial Dragon’s Blood gel that was so lightweight and thin and didn’t give me those lil’ bumps, I was ecstatic. I can finally be a good skincare user and wear an eye cream every day.
Favorite Treatments:
Favorite Skin Perfector: Dior Capture Totale Dream Skin
I never understood the hype behind the Dior Capture Totale Dream Skin until I started using it every day and noticed how great my skin feels when I use it. The Dream Skin does exactly what it’s name says. It’s makes your skin into your dream skin. It blurs imperfections, reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles, visibly tightens pores, and increases radiance; what more could you want?! Plus it gives you instant benefits as well as helps perfect you skin over time which is something I always love in a product. I can’t live without this thing. Read the full review here.
Favorite Exfoliator: Dior HydraLife Time to Glow Exfoliating Powder
It was a hard choice narrowing down my favorite exfoliator. I was undecided between the Clarins Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser and the Dior Exfoliating Powder! Both are extremely exceptional and I will continue to alternate between the two but I’ve come to the conclusion that I like the Dior powder slightly more. It’s super gentle because you mix this fine powder with a little bit of water to turn it into a paste and then gently exfoliate your face with it. It gets rid of all my patches of dry skin and leaves my skin feeling so soft and smooth.
Favorite Peel: Neostrata Brightening Peel Solution
This is another one of those products that has helped me so much with fading my acne marks. This peel is highly concentrated with 10% glycolic acid, gluconolactone, fruit enzymes and 2% Genowhite. The acids remove the build-up of dead cells on the surface of the skin, while the Genowhite (a new technology of brightening peptides from Asia) quickly helps to reduce any dark spots! I try to use this peel three times a week for only five minutes and I find it instantly brightens my skin and keeps any blemishes away!
Favorite Mask: Fresh Black Tea Instant Perfecting Mask
I can’t say enough good things about this mask. It’s the one mask that I can use that totally revamps how my skin looks the minute I wash it off. It brightens and moisturizes and makes my skin look so glowy. Just like the name states, it’s instantly perfecting. Before I had a boyfriend, I used to use this mask before every first date of mine because I knew it had the power to make my skin look amazing! That’s when you know a product is real good ;) Read the full review here.
Favorite Lip Balm: Dior Creme de Rose Lip Balm
As you know, I have the driest lips ever and I’ve tried almost every lip balm out there (including a $50 Chanel one because I was desperate). But this is the lip balm that has all the others beat. Not only is this lip balm so so so moisturizing but it’s also plumping so it makes your lips looks so smooth and full! It’s the perfect lip balm for wearing under a lipstick. And I also love to apply a thicker layer of this right before bed so my chapped lips are gone by the morning!
Wow, so those are all my favorite skincare products of 2017. It’s quite the list, but I attribute the success of my skin getting better to every single product mentioned above. And if you noticed, many of these products photographed are actually empty. If that’s not proof that I loved all these items, I don’t know what is!
!function(doc,s,id){ var e, p, cb; if(!doc.getElementById(id)) { e = doc.createElement(s); e.id = id; cb = new Date().getTime().toString(); p = '//shopsensewidget.shopstyle.com/widget-script.js?cb=1515474127143?cb=' + cb; e.src = p; doc.body.appendChild(e); } if(typeof window.ss_shopsense === 'object'){ if(doc.readyState === 'complete'){ window.ss_shopsense.init(); } } }(document, 'script', 'shopsensewidget-script');

Tumblr media
Ah, the enigmatic French woman . As South Korea is to skincare and as Italy is to pasta, France is to leisurely chicness—and that doesn’t just apply to fashion. With makeup too, French women have a certain way of getting the most sultry, effortless elegance out of the fewest products (unlike the average American makeup routine involving full-coverage foundation, powder, highlighter, liquid liner, false lashes, the works).
Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we were curious how French women do date-night makeup, so we reached out to one of our favorite French makeup artists, Carole Colombani , and asked her to name the five to 10 date-night makeup products French girls love to use. Her first response: “Ten makeup products is already a lot for a French girl, even for a date night! Five or six would be more realistic for us.”
Keep scrolling to shop the ultimate French-girl guide to date-night makeup.
“We like makeup to be easy,” says Colombani of her fellow French women. That means multi-use palettes are key. Colombani recommends la Palette Essentielle de Chanel. “First a bit of concealing on areas like under-eyes, forehead, and chin, and then blush and highlighting—and everything with the fingertips; it’s more intuitive,” she says. “Leave the rest of the face bare, breathable.” Foundation isn’t typically a step in the French girl date-night regimen, but on days when breakouts and redness show up to the party, they’ll make an exception. The French foundation vibe is to choose a product that leaves a natural, radiant finish, applied with the fingers. Laura Mercier’s Flawless Lumiere foundation is one of Colombani’s favorites—it offers “nice coverage but not too heavy,” she says. “Too much perfection and control are not sexy for the French!” “Then, either we will focus on lips or eyes,” says Colombani. “For a date, mostly eyes, because lips need to be free to kiss. We like our eyes to be sensual but not overdone.” To achieve this effect, you’ll need a dark brown kohl eye pencil, a single eye shadow color, and “of course plenty of black mascara,” says Colombani. Line your upper and lower lash lines with the pencil and then use either a fine eye shadow brush or the tip f your finger to smudge it out. “Sometimes we’ll skip shadow and just go with pencil and mascara,” says Colombani. But, for a special occasion, a subtle layer of neutral eye shadow doesn’t hurt. “We apply a beige shadow—matte or shimmer depending how we feel—so it’s better to have a palette with a bit of everything to choose at the last moment depending on mood,” says Colombani, who recommends Dior’s Backstage Eyeshadow Palette in Warm. “For mascara for a date, we like very generous black,” says Colombani, whose favorites are Marc Jacobs's Velvet Noir and Lancôme’s Hypnôse. Next: brows. “We never forget eyebrows,” says Colombani. “We love them generous too and not too over defined, so for us, Glossier Boy brow is the answer—an all-in-one, fill-and-fix product.” A darker eye calls for a pinkish-nude lip. Colombani recommends first hydrating the lips with a balm and dabbing the excess moisture with a tissue. “Then tap a beautiful nude matte long-lasting lipstick with the fingers to tint the lips and make them sensual, but still allowing you to talk, drink, eat, and kiss without thinking of any touch-ups!” she says. Armani’s Matte lipstick in shade 500 is one of Colombani’s go-to’s. Next: 11 drugstore beauty products French girls love.

Chanel is Expanding Its Boy de Chanel Collection Next Month
Men wearing makeup shouldn’t be considered a novelty, yet makeup collections designed with dudes top of mind still feel like a new concept in the beauty world, especially because cosmetics to this day are still typically geared toward women. In 2018, Chanel busted up that industry status quo by launching a collection called Boy de Chanel that included a foundation, a lip balm and an eyebrow pencil.
Earmarked for style-savvy fellas, the line was a forward-thinking move by the French luxury house to help ditch preconceived notions about who should and should not get to dabble in complexion enhancing. “Men should be free to use makeup products to correct or improve their appearance,” says Armelle Souraud, the brand’s international scientific communications director, who helped lead the product development. “With this new range, Chanel wishes to accompany men in their beauty approach and give them the tools they need to feel self-assured.” This makes total sense considering that men also experience undereye circles, skin blemishes, pigmentation issues and patchy brows.
Joining the Boy de Chanel collection this October are the hyaluronic acid- and green coffee extract-spiked Fortifying Gel Moisturizer ($110), which does triple duty as a strengthening face moisturizer, soothing aftershave and foundation primer; a non-oily concealer stick ($60) in eight shades; the 3-in-1 Eye Pencil ($53), which can be used as an eyeliner or blended out for eyeshadow (try it in black, brown or navy); and Chanel’s signature Le Vernis Nail Colour in natural and matte black shades ($46 each).

Bonus: The sleek packaging will look super-dapper in a #shelfie.

5 Beauty Favourites: August 2020
Do any of you have any huge objections if I widen the scope of my monthly favourites round-ups to include  stuff other than beauty? I feel it would inject some new and welcome joie de vivre into what is an old – yet surprisingly still very popular – format.
The only problem might be (spoiler alert!) is that some of the items, if I’m let loose completely from my self-imposed constraints, might be a bit random. For example this month, had I been given free rein, I would most probably have included a faux-antique rug in my favourites as well as a vintage BelgoChrom table I picked up (not literally) from Belgium for an absolute steal.
I don’t mean to imply that all of the favourites would be interiors-related – I’ve also had a great love-affair with a new Amazon Prime TV series this month –  I’m just throwing some examples out there. So what do you think? Death to the (exclusively) beauty favourites? Bring in a new era? Or are you change-averse?
(If you are incredibly change-averse then I do genuinely feel for you. 2020 is most certainly not your year.)
Let me know in the comments, please – I do love a spot of market research on here! But for now, on with the beauty favourites. I’ve mostly avoided skincare this month despite racking up a fair few new discoveries that were deserving of a big mention, and that’s because I’m judging the Marie Claire skincare awards. It would be slightly disingenuous to go shouting my mouth off about my favourites whilst others are still doing their solemn judging.
So two bodycare items, two makeup favourites and one thing that is skincare but not quite as you know it. Shall we start with that one? It’s called a ZitSticka and it’s a small patch infused with potent spot-fighting ingredients that you stick over an emerging or early-bird blemish. You know when you have that hard swelling beneath the skin and your heart sinks because you know it’ll take long and painful days to erupt into anything you can (illegally) squeeze?
That’s what these ZitStickas are aimed at. I actually did an ad for this product at the very start of the year, having used it over the Christmas zit period, but I’ve had a fairly spot-free spring and summer and so hadn’t needed them since. But boy did last month’s PMT week see a beauty of a boil! The perfect pustule to place a Sticka on and I was delighted to find that it worked just as well as at Christmas. From hard, red skin to…absolutely nothing.
The raised bump didn’t disappear completely overnight, I had to take the patch off in the morning and double-obliterate it with a second one, but after that it simply dispersed. No squeezing necessary, which was good as it’s a very bad thing to do with a hard and horrible spot like that.
The patches aren’t cheap (you can find them at Cult Beauty here*, they’re £27) but they are an excellent, excellent product to have in your skincare SOS kit. More info on them over on Cult*.
And to bodycare, where a Mitchum deodorant stole the show. On closer inspection, a “man’s” deodorant but I’m not really sure what makes it manly. The smell is “Cedarwood” but I find it fresh and figgy, which is why it’s in the faves (a good deodorant smell is hard to find), the formula is creamy, aluminium-free and effective.
True fact: to test efficacy I always do a half-half trial, whether it’s foundation, SPF or an exfoliating body lotion. You need to keep one half of your test area free from the product being tested – in this case it was so that I could gauge that day’s sweatiness with one pit and the sweat-fighting prowess of the anti-perspirant with the other.
It did well. The depths of the underarm were fresh even after a brisk walk down the river on a hot day wearing inadvisable levels of cashmere.
You can find Mitchum’s Natural Power deodorants here at Boots*, they are £4.50.
A seasonal favourite now, in the shape of Weleda’s Pine Bath. I know I’ve mentioned this a fair bit over the years and usually it’s more of a winter staple, but I ran out of Epsom Salts the other day (shock horror! fear not, I have reordered) and bathing just wasn’t bathing without something added to the water.
The Weleda bath milks are excellent – lavender would be my warmer months option but nothing beats pine for a bit of a Christmassy run-up. Again, I know I’m early – I’m not wishing Christmas upon anyone for the moment, the last thing we all need is another bloody school holiday! – but if you’re craving those crisp nights and blustery russetty days, this will be your bag.
Weleda Pine Bath Milk is £14 here*.
My next favourite is actually a whole category and so I’m going to sort of mulch over it – if you want more of an in-depth explanation of it then watch the video below. It’s mascaras. All mascaras. I’ve had a sort of renewed falling-in-love of them and have been testing out loads. I am going to be back with a video of my favourite four new mascara launches in the next week or so, but if you can’t wait that long then know that these are currently “the ones”:
Marc Jacobs At Lash’d Mascara, £25 here*
Charlotte Tilbury Push Up Lashes Mascara, £23 here*
Urban Decay Lash Freak Mascara, £21 here*
Dior Overcurl Mascara, £28 here*
All do things to my puny, barely-there lashes that would definitely win prizes, if there were prizes for lash transformations.
And finally another favourite that I’m not going to explain at length; it’s basically anything from Trinny London that counts as “makeup in pots”. In particular the cream eyeshadow in Truth and the cream blush in Electra. I’ve used both so regularly that it would be disingenuous for them not to make an appearance in the monthly hall of fame. You can read my full review of the eye2eye shadows here and the cream blush is online here*.
And there endeth the beauty sermon: it’s all on video right here if you want to see items up close and personal or find out about the makeup I’m wearing. Any extra details are written below the video pane. Enjoy – and let me know whether you’d like me to expand on my favourites categories!

Whats ur updated makeup products? X
My makeup routine is pretty much the same as it always has been, give or take the lipstick shade. I’ve answered this before so I’m just going to copy and paste below!
I know it’s a little excessive using 4 products but it works for me!
Setting Spray:
Urban Decay all nighter setting spray! Hands down can’t live without. This has been the same for so many years, I can’t seem to find anything better than this for my skin!!
