According to VfL Wolfsburg, Jill Roord is out till the end of this year, due to a foot injury. Roord twisted her ankle, yesterday (December 8, 2022) in the Champions League Group Stage Match against A.S. Roma and had to be subbed off early.

Correction:

I’m going to just call it a “foot injury.” Yesterday, I heard Jill twisted her ankle, but now I’m hearing it’s bone inflammation, which is something entirely different. Either way, hopefully she gets well soon.

Game review for the UWCL Group Stage Match between VfL Wolfsburg and A.S. Roma. Great match. Wolfsburg looked great across all areas, attack, midfield, and defense. Ewa Pajor looked great as always. Sveindis Jonsdottir was solid when she came on early for Jill Roord. Obi got her first yellow card of the season (the ancient ritual persists). Merle Frohms also came up big for Wolfsburg multiple times in this match.

I didn’t mention it in the video, but I’m really impressed with how well Frohms does in those 1v1 situations. She’s very confident, patient and has great timing. Frohms, since coming to Wolfsburg, hasn’t really been challenged all that much, and a lot of people are doubting her skills as a goalkeeper. In this match she made multiple saves, and showed up when she was needed. In the past she has been solid for the German Women’s National Team.

Also, VfL Wolfsburg is the only team right now that has made it through to the quarterfinals.

The Striker Problem

United need a new centre forward to lead the line and bang in some goals, but there seems to be a shortage of ideal strikers available with Daniel Levy more likely to go to Jupiter than sell us Harry Kane, Osimhen too expensive, Håland at City, and an array of hot prospect young talent not quite ready.

Surely there's someone out there suitable for United though, right? Right?!

Rasmus Højlund - The 20 year old, pictured above, is THE number 1 striker target for Manchester United at present. A deal is reportedly in the works, with a loan back of Mason Greenwood to fill the void left.

Dubbed the next Håland (despite only being 2 years younger), Højlund is tall, fast, agile, and technically gifted. He also likes to stay central ala Van Nistelrooy, rather than drift wide. This discipline is very important to Erik Ten Hag with an array of floating forwards in Rashford, Sancho et al.

16 goals and 7 assists in 42 games is a fair return at Atalanta, and with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount behind him next season... perhaps he could do even more in the Premiership.

Mehdi Taremi - He might be 30 years old, but Taremi could be a great senior striker to lead the line and act as mentor to a young striker like Højlund. He has 31 goals and 14 assists in 51 appearances this season gone, with 5 in the Champions League for Porto. A short 3-year deal could do the job for United as an interim while Erik Ten Hag continues his squad overhaul, buying time for academy prospects like McNeill and Hugill to step up.

Gonçalo Ramos - The 22 year old had a banger World Cup, a good season with Benfica, and a whoopsie moment with a... private video leaked onto the internet. PR gaff aside, 27 goals and 12 assists in 47 games is very promising. A good choice, though it's unclear if he could step up to the physicality of the Prem.

Randal Kolo Muani - 23 goals and 17 assists in 46 games. Nice work from the 24 year old in the Bundesliga and German Cup. RKM is rumoured the other main striker preference for Ten Hag - potentially even WITH Rasmus Højlund if funds work out. At 4 years his senior they would both be young prospects for the future, but with Muani having just that little extra maturity to show results quicker - and perhaps warrant a starting CF position.

Loïs Openda - Linked with Leipzig to replace Chelsea signing Nkunku, Openda is a promising young striker in Ligue 1 and a potential gamble for United if they were tight on budget.

Aleksandar Mitrović - Premier League proven striker with Newcastle (hmm) and Fulham (okay he turned good) but perhaps might now hate us after his red card in the 3-1 defeat to United. He's big, strong, and fearless though. He'd be an asset.

Amine Gouiri - Gouiri is also a young striker in Ligue 1, like Openda, but his game is much more rounded. He is the Complete Forward, to borrow Football Manager parlance. This could suit Ten Hag's forward pressing game, but he might lack the dedicated striking discipline needed for United at present.

Ivan Toney - Another Premier League proven forward ala Mitro. He's big, strong, and confident. He doesn't lack pace and has that striker's instinct knack to just bag goals consistently. Dependability is huge, and I think bids might come in regardless of his betting ban come January. I doubt it'll be from United, but you never know. He'd do bits for us, Arsenal, and Chelsea - all who need a true CF.

Dusan Vlahovic - Strong at Fiorentina, Vlahovic only managed 14 goals and 4 assists in 42 appearances this season. Rumour has it that The Old Lady are willing to part ways, especially considering money troubles rumoured, but all my spidey senses are tingling and saying do not buy when it comes to the Serbian. Fellow Serb and United great Nemanja Vidic, interviewed on Rio Ferdinand's FIVE channel, said he wouldn't be suited to United, and it's fair to see why given the struggles as a lone forward for Juventus. He needs a dedicated no10 or strike partner to play off. He'd be fantastic alongside someone like Joao Felix, and that wouldn't be an impossible loan acquisition, but United style would be more likely to use Felix as a deep striker or false 9 with Rashford and RW overlapping ala Salah and Mane to Firmino.

Um 19.37 Uhr überreichte DFL-Chefin Donata Hopfen (46) als erste Frau die Schale an einen Männer-Kapitän: an Manuel Neuer (36)! Der Bayern-Keeper machte drei Freudensprünge mit der Salatschüssel, gab sie dann an Robert Lewandowski (33), Elf-Schalen-Mann Thomas Müller (32), der sie mit Tanguy Nianzou (19) stemmte, und an Marcel Sabitzer (28) weiter.

19.41 Uhr: Julian Nagelsmann (34) bekommt seine erste Schale von Niklas Süle (26/ablösefrei zum BVB). Der Trainer wirkt gelöst, stemmt sie in die Höhe. Nagelsmann mit einem Lachen: „Es war schon anstregend, die Schale ist schwerer als erwartet. Ich habe etwas Muskelkater in der Brust.“

9.43 Uhr: Auch Rot-Sünder Kingsley Coman (25) ist wieder auf dem Platz, ebenfalls Jamal Musiala (19), der nach einer Erkältung unter der Woche nicht im Kader stand. Beide präsentieren die Schale.

Ganz bitter: Nach zuletzt schwachen Spielen verpasste Leroy Sané (26) auch noch die Schalen-Party. Der 49-Mio-Mann war erkältet und deshalb nicht bei der Schalen-Übergabe dabei.

19.46 Uhr: Müller führt den Meister-Zug in die Südkurve an und klettert auf den Zaun. Irre: Der Ur-Bayer (seit 2000 im Klub) überreicht die Schale den Ultras. Müller stimmt am Megafon an: „Wer wird Deutscher Meister, BVB Borussia...“

19.49 Uhr: Süle (wechselt ablösefrei zum BVB) wird von den Ultras in der Südkurve sogar auf den Zaun gerufen - eine große Ehre! Erst bekam Süle das Megafon, dann wurde er gefeiert. Doch ohne Schmäh-Gesang kamen die Bayern-Fans nicht aus: Als Süle auf dem Zaun stand, sangen sie: „BVB, H***!“ Nach der Feier in der Kurve schallten „Süle, Süle“-Rufe durch die gesamte Allianz Arena.

19.56 Uhr: Neuer hat plötzlich einen Sohn auf dem Arm! Viele Zuschauer rätseln: Ein heimliches Kind mit Handballer-Freundin Anika Bissel (21/spielt in der 2. Bundesliga beim ESV Regensburg)? Nein! Es ist der Sohn seines engsten Vertrauten und Torwart-Trainers Toni Tapalovic (41).

20.01 Uhr: Der erste Spieler verschwindet in der Kabine – nach nur 24 Minuten! Marc Roca (25) geht mit seiner Freundin Gala in die Katakomben der Arena.

20.04 Uhr: Joshua Kimmich (26) kickt mit seinem Sohn auf dem Rasen. Der Kleine hat schon einen strammen Schuss drauf.

Die Frauen von Sabitzer (Katja Kühne) und Tapalovic (Martina) haben eine Menge Spaß zusammen. Team-Managerin Kathleen Krüger (36) feiert zusammen mit Vorstands-Boss Oliver Kahn (52).

20.08 Uhr: Robert Lewandowski (33), seine Frau Anna und die beiden Töchter Klara (5) und Laura (2) spielen Fangen auf dem Platz.

20.10 Uhr: Jetzt ist auch ein Zweitliga-Absteiger mit auf dem Rasen! Fürth-Angreifer Timothy Tillman (23) feiert mit seinem Bruder Malik (19/sieben Kurz-Einsätze diese Saison) den Bayern-Titel, geht sogar mit in die Kabine. Timothy spielte von 2015 bis 2018 in der Bayern-Jugend.

20.18 Uhr: Leon Goretzka (26) ist der einzige Star, der auf dem Platz Alkohol trinkt. Sonst ist die Party trocken – es gibt auch nicht noch mal Weißbier-Duschen. Goretzka trinkt Champagner aus der Flasche: Veuve-Clicquot – seinem Vater Konrad, der auch noch eine Neuer-Umarmung bekam, hatte er die Meister-Medaille umgehängt.

20.23 Uhr: Neuer-Freundin Anika steht nie bei ihrem Manuel. So gibt es keine gemeinsamen Fotos! Stattdessen steht die Handballerin bei Ersatz-Keeper Christian Früchtl (22) und Freundin Jana Wellenhofer (25).

20.35 Uhr: Alphonso Davies (21) trägt mit seiner Freundin und Jordyn Huitema (wurde am Spieltag 21/spielt bei PSG) die Schale vom Rasen. Nur noch Kimmich ist von den Stars mit seiner Familie auf dem Platz. Schalen-Schauplatz ist nun die Kabine...

20.39 Uhr: In der Kabine wird kaum gefeiert. Die Spieler gehen eher ganz normal nach dem Duschen Richtung Team-Bus oder Auto – als einer der ersten: Corentin Tolisso (27/Vertrag läuft aus). Vor den Kabinen kickt Ulreich-Sohn Len (3).

20.42 Uhr: Müller geht auf dem Weg zum Bus in die Mixed Zone zu den Journalisten. Seit Beginn der Corona-Pandemie im März 2020 ist die Zone das erste Mal geöffnet. Sein lockerer Spruch: „Was macht ihr denn hier?“

20.57 Uhr: Nagelsmann begutachtet am Ende der Mixed Zone einen ausgestellten Audi RS3. Außerdem verteilt der Trainer Ricola-Bonbons „Alpenkräuter“ an die Journalisten.

21.20 Uhr: Süle geht das letzte Mal als Bayern-Spieler aus der Allianz Arena – mit seiner Familie sowie seinem kleinen Sohn an der Hand. Er verabschiedete sich bei allen Ordnern und Securitys per Handschlag.
