cannot even begin to express with human words how much it means to me that Rengoku cares about crushes/romance/sexual intercourse/getting married not at all. the one comment he makes about romantic/sexual partnership in the anime is him teasing Tengen like "haha you have too many wives" (in context it feels like a good-natured joke but Kyo may need someone to explain polyamory to him). boy is solidly 20 years old and his most cherished relationships are his friends and his younger brother. he's successful. he's happy. he's got a glittering future ahead of him. and then it alllllllll gets very literally ripped away (haha guts jokes) but for a movie's worth of time we get to watch a couple days in the life of this guy who's thoroughly vibing without any kind of romantic or sexual partnerships to speak of. this is the most space I've been given to read a protagonist as aroace in ... oh my god. maybe my whole life
