Match Review: Bayern München 4-3 Manchester United
Lets be honest, reds. Defeat was almost certainly on the cards and a 1-goal deficit is perhaps a best case scenario.
Tumblr media
In classic Ten Hag Era fashion, United started off looking competitive. We were more patient than against Brighton and spent good spells in Bayern's half, but that... didn't last [see below]
Tumblr media
Beleaguered goalkeeper Andre Onana conceded what can only be described as a howler - on the back of a stream of constant criticism since the start of the season. An easy shot going in? Why does that seem familiar? Oh yeah, De Gea.
Kudos to Onana though. He actively requested to speak to the press post-match to apologise for his mistake, citing a good team performance and his failure as the reason for a missed result. I think he's wrong on that count - it was a team failing - but the humility to apologise and be accountable is an admirable trait.
Just four minutes later came Bayern's second goal; a well worked play around our box that was SO similar to goals scored by Brighton and Arsenal that either Lindelof/Casemiro aren't doing their jobs OR the coaching staff need to fix something in training because that was predictable and basic.
Tumblr media
Despite limited service, Rasmus Hojlund was one of two (maybe three) bright sparks in United's performance. The Champions League debutant (we don't count an Atalanta qualifier) scored from a rare Marcus Rashford pass to bring the score back to 2-1.
Optimism suddenly. Energy. Vitality. Desire. United woke up! And then the Christian Eriksen/Casemiro pivot was bypassed yet again, Munich put it on United, and Eriksen conceded a silly but unfortunate handball - which led to a Harry Kane penalty and a 3-1 lead.
United never looked like the better team after the first 10 minutes, nor competitive after the first 20, but credit to the likes of Reguilon (who put in a big shift) and Pellistri (perhaps his first United start? away at Bayern?) for their determination and work rate through the match. Basic things, but if others aren't doing it it's remiss not to credit them.
Manchester United hung on in but freshly deflated didn't look like a renewed threat. Despite this, we some how scored the most scuffed goal from Casemiro. 3-2, game back on, right?
Wrong. Bayern push again and bang in a tidy 4th. Depression. But wait, then United run up the other end, final minute, and Bruno puts in a peach of a free kick for Casemiro to head home. 4-3, with 10 seconds of play left.
Tumblr media
To the neutral, this was an interesting game, but it wasn't a good match. Had Bayern been in any semblance of form they could have snotted United 6 or 7 nil. That said, had United not had so many injuries and also been in form... I reckon we could have won. Were both teams in form then it would really have been a classic ECL clash. This is the nature of football. Shit happens, teams adapt.
There were few positives for United to draw from that match, but there were things confirmed: Eriksen cannot do it in the big games anymore. Casemiro needs a rest. Martinez/Lindelof needs work. Dalot is lucky AWB is out injured. Rashford needs to stop sulking and pass more. McTominay needs a special 1 on 1 coach to teach him movement and positioning because the man is allergic to receiving a pass.
The good news is that Mount, Varane, Amrabat and Mainoo are all close to a return. Will any be back for Burnley? We'll see, but that's the new focus and a must-win - potentially even a relegation six-pointer based on current form... jesus christ.

Mikel Arteta describes Takehiro Tomiyasu’s second Arsenal display with two words
Mikel Arteta describes Takehiro Tomiyasu’s second Arsenal display with two words
Photo by Robbie Jay Barratt – AMA/Getty Images Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that new signing Takehiro Tomiyasu was ‘really terrific’ against Burnley. The Gunners made the trip north on Saturday having beaten Norwich City 1-0 in their previous game. The old chant goes ‘one-nil to the Arsenal’, and so it was again; Martin Odegaard’s first-half free kick was enough…

Angry ginger bawbag will try to thwart Gunners; man with perfect hair to resist

Angry ginger bawbag will try to thwart Gunners; man with perfect hair to resist
Good morning, and welcome to the weekend!
It’s a quick one today because once again I’ve been up very late running maintenance on the site to try and keep up with the number of people voting for their favourite posts over on Arseblog News. Who knew that having over 7m votes-worth of data would inevitably lead to problems at some point down the line? Certainly not me, who totally didn’t think that I should really, really do something about it before it became a significant problem and caused the site to fall over.
Oh wait, no, I DID think that but STILL failed to do anything about it before it turned into a significant problem and caused the site to fall over. Oops. How about I ask very nicely that people just vote for one post? Is that something people might consider…? Thanks.
Per the title of today’s blog, at around lunchtime today, an angry man whose head looks like an enflamed, ginger scrotum will shout at a bunch of lads to get them run faster, kick harder, and be all elbowey and snide, just because they’re playing Arsenal and the evidence shows playing that way can be mighty effective against us.
As much as we may want to forget, in the reverse fixture at the Emirates back in December, Burnley came away with a one-nil win in a game that was not at all enjoyable from our point of view. Xhaka got an idiotic red card, Auba broke his scoring drought – only at the wrong end. It’s fair to say it was not a good day for us, and writing in the Guardian at the time, Nick Ames said:
Arsenal have racked up a varied collection of new lows in recent years but this woeful defeat to Burnley, along with the inexcusable idiocy that precipitated it, surely caps the lot
…just in case you’d forgotten quite how bad it was.
We’d just lost the derby to that lot in the previous fixture, and it took two more poor results, aginst Southampton and then Everton, before we had the absolute must-win against Chelsea, which we duly did win, that eventually stopped the rot and marked something of a turning point. After the nadir that was Burnley, and those further two games, however, we went on a seven-game unbeaten streak in the league, and here’s hoping that this time around we can take our recent good form into the game AND maintain our consistency afterwards.
Not that Mikel Arteta’s taking anything for granted, and indeed has been talking up The Clarets in his pre-match presser:
It’s a really tough match. I think it’s remarkable what the club, Sean [Dyche] and the coaching staff have done in recent years with the resources that they have, the style of play they have implemented and how well they execute it and how efficient they are.
Is there a bit more to those comments than what they appear to be at face value? Is he perhaps saying in a backhanded kind of way that Sean Dyche is a bawbag-heided cunt trumpet, who likes his teams to play anti-football because his players are a bit shit? I like to think so. Because he definitely, absolutely is, and he really, really does. Being the nice chap that he is though, Arteta’s probably being genuine, more’s the pity.
In team news, it looks like Emile Smith-Rowe might be available, his withdrawal against Leiester being taken mainly as a precaution with his fitness to be assessed before the game. Alex Runarsson is back in full training and is available.
That’s your lot for today. I think we’ll have a liveblog for you a bit later, so join us for that if you can. You can find the match report and all the reaction after the game over on Arseblog News.
COME YOU GOONERS!

20th January 2020
Morning! You look a wee bit tired. Here. Have a sit down and a read, and take a moment to yourself...
𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐟𝐢𝐱𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬 - Liverpool are currently first in the Premier League. On Thursday they face Wolves (Malcolm will be tense), and on Sunday they play Shrewsbury. So it's a very Midlands based line up this week.
𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 - The Australian open runs from January 14th to February 2nd, and has taken until today - six days into the tournament - to start trending. Today sees the women's singles first round matches, some of which have already happened because of time.
𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 - Welcome to the most depressing day of the year. The question is, if you didn't know it was Blue Monday would you now be anticipating a low mood to strike? I say let's just ignore it. If we don't get a day off work to celebrate it, it doesn't count.
𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧 - Sports! Inter Milan are currently send on Serie A; they drew 1-1 with Lecce yesterday. Lecce sounds like a good pudding.
𝐂𝐚𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐒𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐜𝐞 - Isn't it amazing how celebrity shows can dig up someone you had completely forgotten existed? Congratulations to the research and production teams of DOI; I had totally forgotten that Caprice Bourret was a person until this morning, when I read the news that she and ice dance partner Hamish Gaman will not be dancing together for the remainder of the show. We have not been given any information on why they have split, and some of us miss the days where we had forgotten who Caprice was and didn't care about anything she did. Sigh.
𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐟𝐜 𝐯𝐬 𝐋𝐞𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲 - Burnley beat Leicester City 2 - 1 in the Premier League yesterday. C. Wood and A. Westwood scored the goals, and I hear that the managers are considering ONLY signing players who have a tree related surname going forward.
𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐂𝐮𝐩 𝐝𝐫𝐚𝐰  - It's happened. 16 teams have been told who they will be playing. It's thrilling stuff.
𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐚 - It's a city, ain't it. But, presumably because it is Blue Monday and I have zero interest in sports, the UK is not interested in the beauty of Barcelona today. No. They are all about the football. Barcelona beat Granada 1 nil yesterday.
𝐍𝐢𝐤𝐨𝐥𝐚 𝐓𝐞𝐬𝐥𝐚 - The UK are apparently not that impressed with the latest episode of Doctor Who, which featured the Serbian-American inventor / electrical engineer / mechanical engineer / futurist / all-round under-celebrated over-achiever. I didn't see it. I was watching Love Island.
𝐀𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐚 𝐕𝐒 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐚 - Cricket news! India beat Australia by seven wickets with 15 balls left.
Since it's not trending and we desperately need to combat the utter depression that Blue Monday will almost certainly bring (it won't, and I plan on sharing silly videos all day to prove it) here is a refresh on Love Island activity: Connagh put a cat amongst the scantily clad pigeons when he detached Sophie from the baby-man that is the other Connor. Some of us more jaded folk suspect Connagh was asked to mix things up on joining the villa... Mike dressed like a beat poet but didn't say anything poetic and nobody clicked their fingers in appreciation. Naz is winning the FriendZone award.
And that is Monday. Stay tuned to the Facebook page for things that are 1) not sport and 2) not sad.

Lineup Lamentations - GW23
Our Transfers, Captains, and Starting 11s for the week!
WALSH
TRANSFERS:
OUT: Diego Rico
IN: Jack Stephens
I feel naked and alone without my Spanish lover Rico in my team anymore but it simply had to be so. I'm floating a transfer again this week and just doing a move to give me another cheapo defender who I can rotate. As shouted on the pod at 4.3 Jack seems like a good piece to have at the back until WC with their fixtures and strong underlying defensive numbers. There were certainly other more flair moves I could do but with two Livp in I am valuing the flexibility afforded with two frees ahead of their double to make a final decision about who to get in as the third and who to remove as well.
GK:
Schmeichel (bur)
Woodman the eternal continues to never let me down the legend.
Schmike, on the other hand, suddenly finds himself positioned between a goal frame, a sieve, and the enemy. Still too early to tell if no Ndidi just means they are diabolical but Burnley have been among the worst attacks in the division recently and no Smashley kinda fucks up their balance a lot.
Could see them snap back into form and just dispatch these in an easy win to nil. Hoping for it, anyway.
DEF:
Pereira (bur)
Somehow I still have Periera. He's been by far by farrrrr my worst transfer of the season but I always seem to find a reason to hold on to him and start him. It seems extremely unlikely he is in past this weekend so maybe he'll give me a farewell gift.
Alexander-Arnold (MUN)
Trent goes again nothing to say about that. Only guy I've had since GW1...well other than Woodman of course that sweet boy.
Stephens (WOL)
Jack new friend is put straight into the fire with home Wolves. Not a good on paper fixture but I could kinda see a clean here? Maybe? Not an ideal start, but he's the best option I have and when weighing him up against the other 4.4 defenders and under it looked like his near term fixtures were the best in how he can rotate with what else I've got.
Lundstram (ars)
Lastly is Pointstram.
Another not too great feeling start but also not too bad without Aubz.
Hard to imagine where an Arsecast goal can come from other than a p3p3ga set piece banger or something like this. Don't really feel like Wilder will have any trouble marking Laca out of the game. Pointstram also eye test wise looked a lot more involved in their attack last game so maybe that is a sign of things to come.
MID:
Martial (liv)
Unfortunately I'm going to have to eat a Tony M start here at Anfield. Feels not good but I still like him as a medium term hold despite the mixed fixtures.
Still don't really have any confidence that I know what a "good" fixture is for United attack anyway so I'm just blindly following the mantra of he's playing OOP striker on a top six team so he's a hold.
De Bruyne (CRY)
Kevin up against my boys this weekend we'll see if he's at DM or not. Don't really care though, honestly.
Salah (MUN)
Third mid is Mo. Good lad.
FWD:
Maupay (AVL)
Is this the weekend of Neal? Please Neal be a good Neal one time my son.
Scenic fixture...time to capitalize...or take 1 shot and blank again as per.
I want Neal to give me a sign of life so badly because I would really still like to hold him for the near term through these fixtures. Big game for him and I'll be watching him closely.
Vardy (bur)
Vardz still in there. Whatever.
Agüero (CRY)
Kun off his monster haul good job by Kun love Kun so much.
CAP:
Vardy (bur)
Sticking with Vardz as shouted on the pod.
I've really not gone to the Vardy cap well too often this season but he just seems like a very strong option against a really bad team with two really bad CBs and a really bad GK. I'd honestly be surprised if he doesn't double return.
ALON
TRANSFERS:
OUT: N/A
IN: N/A
When in doubt float your fuckin’ transfer...
I had a really brutal week and especially today, Friday, long and tough day.
No idea what I want to do but having two frees and a boatload of cash for next week seems really fun / good.
I’ll probably get rocked in the Cup this week by fuckin Wiscker by just rolling the same crew out again after last week’s bloodbath but maybe with my two frees and a pocket full of change I can roar back in the final two group matches and go through... It works out in my head at least...
GK:
Ryan (AVL)
Great fixture and a great fixture run so come on Mat gimme some points.
DEF:
van Dijk (MUN)
Everything says that this should be an easy Liverpool win and an easy Liverpool clean but who knows it’s still a derby...
United are absolutely terrible on set plays they have conceded the third most in the league and Liverpool have scored the tied for second most int he league so make of that what you will... VVDue? VVDong?
Söyüncü (bur)
Hoping for a Soy redemption song this week after that very sloppy mess of a match lass week... Burnley are very much there for the taking so go on SoyBoy.
Lundstram (ars)
I sleeper think that this is a great fixture... ok maybe great is an exaggeration because it’s not a ~banker~ but with how Arsenal’s been playing lately - very few shots and not much xG or sustained attack - plus no Aubz it just seems very cleanable and winnable for Sheff U from where I’m sitting.
MID:
Salah (MUN)
Funny cheeky little interview he gave. Mo’s a good guy.
De Bruyne (CRY)
Easy keep.
Maddison (bur)
Time for a bounce-back from Leicester no fucking around. Maddo was such a steady tick merchant for me back in the good ole days I just want to taste that success again.
Sarr (tot)
Not a good fixture but definitely not a bad one either.
Sarr and Watty have been looking fabulous and will cause Spurs tons of problems for me.
Cantwell (BOU)
Lastly going for Big Todd Energy over Jiménez this week (feel free to thank me Jim owners) becaaaauuuuuseeeee just I don’t know gut feeling and shit.
Jim has been an extremely upsetting transfer in for me and I shouted Wolves being tired and bad and then they go out and lose to Man. Utd. in the cup with Jim playing the full 90′.
Also Jim has away Southampton which is now a really rough fixture so whatever I’m going for it here... Todd should fuck Eddie’s Bourney.
FWD:
Only the two FWDs for me this week since I’m benching Jimboy.
Vardy (bur)
Another in my triple leicester to bounce back -- what a chance for it !
Calvert-Lewin (whu)
I still believe in DCL and I had to defend the pick a little bit here and there this week and honestly it just made me feel better about it. And the fixture is fantastic. DCL gonna bang.
CAP:
Vardy (bur)
Just don’t really have another option who I think is nearly as good a cap. pick as Vardz is this week and it’s as simple as that...
If it’s close then maybe you go differential cap but if it’s not close I think you just cap the guy who everyone else is capping. Here we are.
Soz for a not exciting Lambs from me this week lol.
RANDOM SLACKER OF THE WEEK: dave (group 19)
The words of Random Slacker are not officially endorsed by this website nor any employees of FML FPL LLC.
TRANSFERS:
DISCLAIMER: I AM VERY BAD AT FPL AND YOU SHOULD NOT LISTEN TO ANYTHING I SAY!
Fun fact: I was the person who suggested random slacker lambs earlier in the season to the pod bois. That was a time when my team was ticking along and I was optimistic about rising up the ranks over the course of the season.
Now I am in the depths of darkness and have zero expectations for my team other than red arrows and I am bad and shit at FPL and you shouldn’t even bother reading this because I’m shit. Unless you want to feel better about yourself, that is (I’m 1.5m so if you’re lower than that then I’m truly sorry – you’ll probably overtake me soon).
At least I have the FML FPL Cup to focus all my energy on. Speaking of which...
To my opponent this week, Rob, and the rest of Group 19, Jon and Max: Fuck you. I’m going to destroy you. I don’t care about my OR anymore. This is all that matters to me. (Jk prob will get 0 points and crash out in the group stage – good luck lads).
OUT: Serge Aurier
IN: Lewis Dunk
I have 2FTs but I’m just going for a fairly passive and hopefully more sensible move. When Mou became Spuds’ manager I had hopes that the defence would significantly improve (I even doubled up on their defence – oops), but alas they are still shipping goals for fun and now the child Tanganga is in the mix potentially threatening Aurier’s minutes after a decent right back performance mid-week. So just fucking him off to a similarly priced guy with good fixtures for the foreseeable future, on a team that actually appears to be capable of keeping the occasional clean sheet.
Going to roll the other FT to give me a little more flexibility next GW to increase my share of Liverpool players to at least 2. Probably will take a hit to get up to 3.
GK:
Guaita (mci)
Probably the worst fixture of the season for a defender or GK; City have several potent, in-form attacking options and could easily put up 4 or 5 (albeit Palace have been fairly solid for large portions of the season).
Just hoping Victor Vincente can pick up some some save points, a Kun pen save or two would be very welcome as a non-owner…
DEF:
Dunk (AVL)
Brighton looking very good this season generally under Graham Potter and cleaning the odd game here and there. Decent chance for one against an out of sorts Villa. Go on new friend Lewis.
Söyüncü (bur)
Soyboy has been a staple of my team for quite some time. Leicester always a shout for a clean. However, Burnley are one of those teams where I can never predict how they’re going to perform week to week, so I’m not banking on a clean by any means.
Sidibe (whu)
Difficult to predict how this one will go as West Ham are still a bit of an unknown quantity to me under new / old manager Moyseh.
Sidibe is the guy I’ll likely transition into a Liverpool defender next week but maybe he gets another go at RW this week with Richarlison confirmed out. Would be nice to get some OOP attacking farewell returns from him.
MID:
De Bruyne and Sterling (CRY)
Should just be a fuckfest for City (soz Walsh). Raz getting fairly frustrating to own but I’m keeping the faith for now.
Mané (MUN)
Another one of those games that you never know what to expect. Even while United were the dominant English team and Liverpool were complete piss, they always seemed to be able to show up for this match and up results. Could the shoe be on the other foot now? After all Utd are the only team Liverpool haven’t beaten so far this season in the PL. But I digress. Mane is obviously an auto-start in any fixture and Liverpool are the clear favourites in this one for good reason.
Maddison (bur)
He’s an absolute cunt imo. Very punchable face too. But he has undoubtedly been a very good FPL pick this season thus far. So go on James.
FWD:
Calvert-Lewin (whu)
2 blanks on the trot but I’m not too worried. Still think he’s great, Carlo loves him and the price is right.
Abraham (new)
Tammy back in the points lately so feels fine to hold for now. Fixtures turning to shit imminently so possibly one to monitor and maybe move on soon.
Vardy (bur)
Earlier in the season I was looking at Vardy’s stats vs. goals/assists output; I convinced myself it was unsustainable and that he would “revert to the mean” (that’s something us wankers who have no fucking clue about how underlying stats translate into FPL points say to kid ourselves that we know what we’re talking about).
It’s now clear that he is just a guy who you hold indefinitely because his points continue to roll in week after week after week.
CAP:
Sterling (CRY)
Call me an idiot.
Call me a glutton for punishment.
I capped Raz last week thinking he might just be a stroke of genius differential pick. Needless to say, that went poorly (0 mins with DCL VC, RIP). But fuck it. He goes again. I love Raz. Raz is great. He’s due – isn’t he?
Ultimately I’m just a guy who wants to get some fucking points on the board. Wish me luck.

England return to action on Friday against Czech Republic in the first of ten Euro 2020 qualifiers and the sense of optimism surrounding the international break has surely never been higher. The Three Lions gifted us all a summer to remember as they battled all the way to the World Cup semi-finals before losing in heartbreaking fashion to Croatia, whom they exacted revenge upon in their November Nations League clash. England fans, players and Gareth Southgate will now be looking ahead to next summer, where they will have the opportunity to build on their successes of the previous one. First, though, they must advance through the qualifying rounds and Czech Republic are the first obstacle in their path. This week’s fans – Football Fancast’s very own Harry Sherlock and Billy Meyers – give their thoughts ahead of the clash below. ARE THERE ANY PLAYERS NAMED IN THE INITIAL SQUAD WHO YOU FEEL WERE FORTUNATE TO GET IN AND WHO WOULD YOU HAVE REPLACED THEM WITH? Harry: “It was obviously a surprise when James Ward-Prowse was omitted but, rather by luck than judgement, he has found his way into the squad. One would say that Kieran Trippier, on form, probably doesn’t deserve to be in the team; Aaron Wan-Bissaka would have been an obvious replacement, allowing the Crystal Palace youngster to find his feet at international level.” Billy: “I feel that James Tarkowski was lucky to make the squad. Burnley haven’t set the world alight this season and have been poor for the majority of the campaign, and it is criminal that the former Brentford man has made the cut when Conor Coady, captain of the Premier League’s 7th-placed side, is sat at home.” Indeed, Southampton’s Ward-Prowse has been in scintillating form for the Saints in 2019 – the midfielder has scored six goals in his last nine games and three in his last three, two of which were superb free-kicks against Manchester United and Spurs. The 24-year-old’s dead-ball goals might have given some flashbacks to Trippier’s own strike against Croatia, although the right-back hasn’t been so great since – there were certainly arguments to be had for Wan-Bissaka to take his place in the squad, although the Palace man remains with the Under-21’s. Burnley’s Tarkowski, meanwhile, hasn’t quite been as immense as he was last season, while Coady has led Wolves to what will surely be an impressive top-half finish having just come up from the Championship. SHOULD GARETH SOUTHGATE GO WITH THE THREE-AT-THE-BACK APPROACH WHICH WAS SO SUCCESSFUL IN THE WORLD CUP OR GO WITH THE FORMATION WHICH BEAT SPAIN IN OCTOBER? Billy: “I think Southgate should go with the three-at-the-back formation. It worked well at the World Cup, and suits a lot of the players in the side who will most likely be eager to carry on in the same system as a result of the aforementioned success, which will breed confidence as it has shown the squad that it is an effective formula for results.” Harry: “Southgate need not pin down one formation. England’s squad is filled with multifunctional, technical players for the first time in a generation; he can change the system as the games come. The fact is, in qualification for Euro 2020, it is unlikely to matter. England should be winning these games, even if they play 6-3-1.” The former Middlesbrough man’s taking of the Three Lions wheel saw a complete overhaul of style and approach, with the introduction of a new 3-5-2 setup which reaped rewards in the World Cup. England were playing some fantastic football and, a fortuitous run of games aside, fully deserved to reach the last-four of the competition. It was somewhat a surprise, therefore, when the formation was thrown out for the Nations League games against Spain and nemeses Croatia at the end of the year. Quickly, though, all questions were answered, with the Three Lions beating both. WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR THE THREE LIONS THAT WE HAVE PLAYERS LIKE CALLUM HUDSON-ODOI AND JADON SANCHO BREAKING THROUGH TO THE FIRST TEAM? Harry: “England have the most exciting crop of youngsters in a generation. Never before have we seen so many exciting young talents break through and then actually threaten to live up to the hype. Sancho is already a £100m player and Hudson-Odoi could save Chelsea a fortune across the next couple of years.” “Add into that the fact that all of these players remain eligible for the Under-21s: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Ryan Sessegnon, James Maddison, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford. This is the new golden generation.” Billy: “I think it’s phenomenally exciting to have the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jadon Sancho in the side. With the latter mainly playing on the right-wing at Borussia Dortmund, and Hudson-Odoi a fan of cutting in on his right foot off the left flank, England could potentially have the two best wingers in world football in a few years time. “Our very own Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, perhaps?” Sancho has been nothing short of incredible since trading Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund – the 18-year-old has chalked up a jaw-dropping 15 league assists for BVB this campaign, while also netting eight goals, in just 26 appearances. Southgate has repeatedly promised to select players for his England squad based on performances rather than reputation and the electric winger has vindicated that claim. Another youngster making waves in club competition is Chelsea’s Hudson-Odoi, although the speedster has been limited to far fewer minutes than his former England Under-17’s teammates. Don’t bet against the 5 ft 10 forward making a huge impact on the international stage this month though. MATEJ VYDRA HAS IDENTIFIED HARRY MAGUIRE AS A WEAK-POINT FOR ENGLAND – IS HE RIGHT? Billy: “Harry Maguire definitely seems to have fallen away from his man-mountain-like state that we saw at the World Cup. Perhaps playing in an unhappy, uncertain environment at Leicester under Claude Puel, before he was sacked of course, has affected him. Hopefully he can regain some form in the international break and carry it on under Brendan Rodgers upon his return to the Foxes.” Harry: “No. Maguire confirmed his abilities at the World Cup. This is a defender who can tackle, win the ball in the air and distribute. There isn’t much more you can ask. Defence may not be the strongest point of Southgate’s squad but Maguire is far from a weak link.” Check out the harsh words the Playmaker FC squad had to say about Wayne Rooney’s England career in the video below Indeed, ‘Slab-head’ – as he was affectionately dubbed by the England fans – has been underwhelming for the Foxes this season. As Billy says, though, he may just have been a victim of poor management while Puel was still at the helm. There are no certainly questions regarding the 26-year-old behemoth’s quality after his sensational showings at centre-back in the summer; that is, unless you’re Burnley’s Vydra, who believes Maguire will be exploitable on Friday. FINALLY, WHAT ARE YOUR SCORE PREDICTIONS? Harry: “England should win comfortably. It’s at Wembley and the Czechs have been in remarkably patchy form. They beat Slovakia and Poland by a goal to nil in their most recent outings but were thrashed 5-1 by Russia as recently as September. I’ll go 4-0.” Billy: “England 3-0 Czech Republic.” #GarethSouthgate #ThreeLions #KieranTrippier

Analysis Bournemouth are yet to win a Premier League game in 2017 and have conceded more goals than any other Premier League side in their last 6 games.

Man City form in last 6 PL games Points: 10 (LWLDWW) Goals Scored: 10 Goals Against: 9
Analysis In their last 2 away games City have won and lost by 4 goals to nil against West Ham and Everton. The 4 - 0 loss to Everton is their only defeat in the Premier League in 2017 so far.
Bournemouth vs Manchester City
Bournemouth are another one of those sides yet to win in the Premier League in 2017. Their inconsistent season is highlighted by great games such as their excellent 3 - 3 draw against Arsenal in January, their seven-goal thriller against Liverpool in December and their 6 - 1 demolition of Hull in October mixed with poor performances where the Cherries have conceded a high number of goals (such as against Everton last time out, where, despite some positives in the performance, they conceded six times).
Fortunately for Bournemouth, they are back at the Vitality Stadium for their game against Manchester City where their better performances have come. But defensively is where they need to drastically improve as they have conceded fifteen goals from the twenty-nine shots they have faced on target in the last six games (defender Tyrone Mings scored an own goal against Hull).
In their next six games Manchester City face Liverpool (H), Arsenal (A) and Chelsea (A) in a run of games that could define their season. Prior to that, their initial Premier League concerns will be away here at Bournemouth, a trip to Sunderland and a home game against Stoke. There may just be some momentum building at City following back-to-back wins against Swansea and West Ham and, if they can win their next three Premier League games and upcoming last sixteen Champions League tie with Monaco, they could go into those three big Premier League games full of confidence.
City have faced the least shots on goal (38) in the last six games and have also faced the second least amount of shots on target (13). They consistently create chances and that combined with Bournemouth's fragile defence should lead to a City victory in what should be an exciting, attacking game of football.
Prediction: Bournemouth 1 - 3 Man City

Jordan Ayew features for Crystal Palace in narrow home defeat to Burnley
Ghana striker Jordan Ayew featured for Crystal Palace this evening in the English Premier League when the side lost 1-0 at home to Burnley.
The two teams were in action at the Selhurst Park to honour a Matchday 32 fixture of the ongoing 2019/2020 English top-flight campaign.
Having earned a starting role from manager Roy Hodson, Jordan Ayew worked his socks off throughout the match and combined with his teammates to cause trouble in the opposition's half.
Despite a number of efforts, both teams went into the break without finding the back of the net.
In the second half, a hard-fought battle ended with Burnley winning by a goal to nil courtesy a strike from Ben Mee on the 62nd minute when he was assisted by Ashley Westwood.
The defeat leaves Crystal Palace sitting 10th on the standings of the English Premier League table but still with the chance of climbing up from the remaining matches of the season.
Jordan Ayew, 28, has made 31 appearances for the Eagles this season and has scored 9 goals. He has been outstanding for the London-based club and will be key for the side for the rest of the season.

KEOWN: Travel sick Arsenal cause no fear – they are cannon fodder
It no longer matters who plays Arsenal from home. When the Gunners leave the Emirates, their opponents see them as little more than cannon fodder.
This last surrender in Leicester was the eighth defeat of Arsenal on the road this season.
That record is shameful. [Bewerken] [lijst toevoegen] Do That Record is embarrassing. At least teams know that if they can dig against Arsenal and stay in the game long enough, they will collapse at some point.
Whoever plays Arsenal away, their opponents see them as cannon food
Leicester dominated the game from the start and had chances to punish Arsenal before it received a numerical advantage. Niles & # 39; red card after 36 minutes, but that cannot be used as an excuse for that performance.
If you go to 10 men, you must adopt the siege mentality. You may not win the game, but you certainly won't lose. Arsenal used to have that reputation.
When we won the Double in 2002, we had sent players in six games of the Premier League. We have received five. I would make Arsene Wenger a joke that we were trying to win the competition with 10 men.
One of those games was in Anfield when Giovanni van Bronckhorst was eliminated after 0 minutes with 0-0 – exactly the same scenario Arsenal found himself when Maitland-Niles was red

Kanu dropped into midfield and fought for everything while we fight for a 2-1 victory.
When you looked at the will of Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Freddie Ljungberg were still on the field, you were convinced that the 10 remaining players would give anything to win against all odds.
Where do leaders in the current Arsenal team demand this type of performance? When Arsenal now falls behind on the road, or goes to 10 men, there seems to be no belief that they can get a result.
There were many positive points in the first season of Emery. Arsenal is six points better than this time last year, they are dominant at home and are in the semifinals of the Europa League.
This is how they remain their Achilles heel. Emery can help its players by establishing themselves in a system.
Arsenal's motion sickness is a problem that Emery has inherited, but it is his responsibility to fix it. Until he does, it will prevent real success from returning to this club.

What a great boost for Liverpool to bring Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain back to the big semi-final of the Champions League with Barcelona.
Oxlade-Chamberlain glided slowly over the field, showed good imagination and had the misfortune to not score.

Premier League Picks Week 15
Photo Credit: Brad Penner, USA TODAY
Come on, you didn’t really think I forgot you, right? Yes, there were Premier League matches on Tuesday, but none of them were especially interesting. I went 1-2 on the picks I would have made. I had West Ham as easy winners, but I thought Manchester City would cover 1.5 goals away to Watford and I thought Crystal Palace would win away to Brighton and Hove Albion. In the parlance of true degenerates, sometimes the best bet you ever made is the one you didn’t make at all.
There are six more Premier League fixtures set for this midweek slate, and there are winners aplenty, so let’s get to it.

BURNLEY v. LIVERPOOL
Let me first come out and admit that I am aware that Burnley is awful. You don’t find yourself 19th out of 20 in the table based on great talent, strong effort, and bad luck. This is not a good Burnley side. But here’s the thing…it’s quite possible that Liverpool isn’t really all that good either.
Oh, sure, Liverpool is second in the league table and putatively keeping up with Manchester City. You see the scenes of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp charging onto the pitch as his men snatch a late winner against Everton a few days ago and say “there’s a club that has a collective spirit!” That’s true enough. What’s also true is that Liverpool has yet to play the sort of wide-open, hell for leather football that was expected of them when the season began.
More to the point for this wager, in the 12 matches Liverpool has played since skinning West Ham 4-0 in their league opener, the total goals scored in their serial league matches has exceeded two just four times, and has exceeded four just once. That’s not Liverpool goals, mind you — that’s total goals in those matches. Liverpool is away to a moribund Burnley side after spilling its bucket against Everton in a derby that Liverpool won at the death. It’s too much to expect the Reds to put a big number on Burnley. Take Liverpool to win AND under 3.5 goals at 21/20.
Double trouble?

WOLVERHAMPTON v. CHELSEA
Wolves were very good for me early in this season, but a quick look at the form table shows that the ship is sinking, and fast. Wolves hasn’t won in the league since October 6, and has only claimed one of 18 possible points over its last six league matches.
This is the exact wrong time for Wolves to be seeing Chelsea, a club that got some of its frustration out from its recent derby loss to Spurs out with the win over Fulham a few days back. The Blues undoubtedly see a wounded foe in Wolves, and with Wolverhampton midfielder Ruben Neves missing this match due to a suspension for a fifth yellow card (one of the dumbest rules in the game, by the way), there is little reason to think Chelsea will not pick up three crucial points in the quest to stay in the top four. Take Chelsea to win at 4/5.

MANCHESTER UNITED v. ARSENAL
It tells you all you need to know about where these clubs are now that this fixture is third on the docket to be picked. Three years ago, five years ago, ten years ago, this match would supersede any other offering on any week, any time. But time, like LaVar Ball, is undefeated, never lost. United is a hollowed-out shell of its past glory, 19 points behind Manchester City and happy to eke out a result against a Southampton club that was moments from sacking its manager.
In fairness, Arsenal is on the rise. The weekend derby victory over Spurs (which I called) was a great display, even though it was over an exhausted XI at home. As for this pick, we are officially in “don’t overthink it” territory. Arsenal has not lost in any competition since August 18. You read that right. Arsenal lost to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in mid-August, and since then the Gunners have a 19-match unbeaten streak in all competitions.
As the great Maya Angelou once wrote, when someone shows you who they are, believe them. Take Arsenal to win draw no bet at evens.
SOUTHAMPTON v. TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR
That’s right, we have the rare BONUS PICK here. As described earlier, Spurs lost a cracking match to Arsenal over the weekend. There is no question that exhaustion played a part in that outcome. Spurs had played a Champions League match days before, whereas Arsenal was more or less fully rested. That probably explains how Arsenal turned a 2-1 deficit at halftime into a 4-2 win. Sometimes it really is that easy to see what will happen.
So Spurs is a little ragged now…but that ain’t nothing compared to what is going on at Southampton. Mark Hughes was fired for committing the cardinal sin of losing to United (har har), and as of this writing expect to play this Premier League match without a full-time gaffer in place. Can Southampton keep it close? Yeah, maybe, but they won’t win and they won’t draw, even against the change side Mauricio Pochettino is apt to field. Take Tottenham Hotspur to win at 4/11.
Good luck on this midweek round of fixtures.
LAST WEEK’S RESULTS
Arsenal to win over Tottenham Hotspur (draw no bet) at 4/5: WIN
City to win to nil over Bournemouth at 20/23: LOSS
Romelu Lukaku to score at Southampton at 13/8: WIN
LAST WEEK: +$143
TOTAL: -$491

"New golden generation", "Phenomenally exciting" - England v Czech Republic fan predictions
One would say that Kieran Trippier, on form, probably doesn’t deserve to be in the team; Aaron Wan-Bissaka would have been an obvious replacement, allowing the Crystal Palace youngster to find his feet at international level.”
Billy: “I feel that James Tarkowski was lucky to make the squad. Burnley haven’t set the world alight this season and have been poor for the majority of the campaign, and it is criminal that the former Brentford man has made the cut when Conor Coady, captain of the Premier League’s 7th-placed side, is sat at home.”
Indeed, Southampton’s Ward-Prowse has been in scintillating form for the Saints in 2019 – the midfielder has scored six goals in his last nine games and three in his last three, two of which were superb free-kicks against Manchester United and Spurs.
It worked well at the World Cup, and suits a lot of the players in the side who will most likely be eager to carry on in the same system as a result of the aforementioned success, which will breed confidence as it has shown the squad that it is an effective formula for results.”
Harry: “Southgate need not pin down one formation. England’s squad is filled with multifunctional, technical players for the first time in a generation; he can change the system as the games come. The fact is, in qualification for Euro 2020, it is unlikely to matter. England should be winning these games, even if they play 6-3-1.”
The former Middlesbrough man’s taking of the Three Lions wheel saw a complete overhaul of style and approach, with the introduction of a new 3-5-2 setup which reaped rewards in the World Cup.
Sancho is already a £100m player and Hudson-Odoi could save Chelsea a fortune across the next couple of years.”
“Add into that the fact that all of these players remain eligible for the Under-21s: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Ryan Sessegnon, James Maddison, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford. This is the new golden generation.”
Billy: “I think it’s phenomenally exciting to have the likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jadon Sancho in the side. With the latter mainly playing on the right-wing at Borussia Dortmund, and Hudson-Odoi a fan of cutting in on his right foot off the left flank, England could potentially have the two best wingers in world football in a few years time.
“Our very own Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben, perhaps?”
Sancho has been nothing short of incredible since trading Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund – the 18-year-old has chalked up a jaw-dropping 15 league assists for BVB this campaign, while also netting eight goals, in just 26 appearances.
Hopefully he can regain some form in the international break and carry it on under Brendan Rodgers upon his return to the Foxes.”
Harry: “No. Maguire confirmed his abilities at the World Cup. This is a defender who can tackle, win the ball in the air and distribute. There isn’t much more you can ask. Defence may not be the strongest point of Southgate’s squad but Maguire is far from a weak link.”
Check out the harsh words the Playmaker FC squad had to say about Wayne Rooney’s England career in the video below
Indeed, ‘Slab-head’ – as he was affectionately dubbed by the England fans – has been underwhelming for the Foxes this season.
I’ll go 4-0.”
Billy: “England 3-0 Czech Republic.”
