Yosuke customizes every entry in his phone's contacts list. It's just what he does. He's been doing it since his first one years ago, when he figured out that he could pair a yellow-orange background with his mom's photo and a green one with his dad's.

So when Yosuke remembers he doesn't have a contact photo for Yu, two weeks after initially exchanging numbers, he fires off a quick text –

> hey prtnr snd me a pic 4 my contacts k??

– and wanders away for a glass of water. He has three messages from Yu when he comes back to his desk and, by proxy, his phone a few minutes later. 

> Sure.

> Is this good?

The third message, only an image file, takes another minute to download. Yosuke smiles a little when he sees it; it's a slim white cat, curled into a tight ball, with only one ear visible.

It's cute, but it's not Yu.

Yosuke sends his response.

> i meant liek a selfie lol

Yu's back-to-back reply –

> Oh.

> I don't have any.

– rouses surprise, suspicion, and then understanding. In that order. 

While Yosuke has only known Yu for all of a month, he's already cottoned on to some of the other boy’s ways and attitudes. And considering how airheaded he seems about his own appearance – how does he not notice all the looks he gets? it's insane! – Yosuke can believe it.

He fully understands how Narukami Yu might not have a single selfie.

Nevertheless, Yosuke presses on.

And finds himself baffled at Yu's response.

> I'll try.

Try? As if it's hard?

The next image Yu sends downloads as slowly as the first, and Yosuke twirls in his desk chair while waiting on it.

As soon as it's done, Yosuke snorts again in amusement.

Not even both eyes; just one, taken so closely that Yosuke can see his fine, silvery lower lashes and the edges where his pupil meets the pale gray of his iris. He'd been meaning to ask if Yu is wearing coloured contacts; from the picture Yosuke still can't tell.

The notification for Yu's next message –

> No good then? Let me try again.

– reorients his thoughts. Was he really analyzing a picture of someone's eye? Yosuke scrubs a hand over his face; the countryside must be turning him into a weirdo.

But, after looking over the subsequent photo that downloads, Yosuke takes it back. He can't be a weirdo when Yu has the entire concept of weird on lock. It's an upside-down, blurry close-up of the bridge of his nose and, honestly, what kind of message is Yosuke supposed to take away from that? 

Other than –

Yosuke tabs through his image gallery until he finds his favorite selfie. Although it's the same pose as most of his other photos – a peace sign and a flirty wink – he'd felt better than usual that day and the camera noticed.

He ends up spinning in his chair again as he waits; right now, even this is more entertaining than trying to read through his Literature homework.

Yu's messages ping one after another again.

> Thanks.

> You look really happy.

> How is this?

What comes through last is a perfectly clear photo of Yu, smiling slightly, with his cheek resting on his fist. It's a new photo, unlike Yosuke's – the collar of his Yasogami uniform is unmistakable.

He attaches the photo to Yu's contact profile, completing it, and puts his phone aside.

Ugh, homework.

had my proper sapphic awakening when I was playing basketball with my classmates during sports period. and like the coach made us stand in a line in group of 6, so my then bestfriend was behind me, and I was a bit to the side when the ball from the group beside us came hurling towards our direction and was about to hit my friend on the face. and you see I was talking with her during this and suddenly I see the ball coming so I block it with one hand, with the sun behind me, a slomo moment straight out of movies, and my friend looked at me in such a way my mind went "....fuck".

it's not like jay cares about the opening mic much, but a bunch of people are getting all up in arms about it so there's no way he isn't participating for himself ( so maybe he cares a little, but that's not what's important ). they say it's a good way to showcase talents and skills; the only good point in defense of the opening mic event.

there's no harm in trying it out, jay supposes.

most people are going along with the theme of winter and the holidays. jay has never been one to follow the majority, so he decides to be funny instead; there's no point if he doesn't mess with the norm a little bit. keep people on their toes, let no one relax and stay attuned with the christmas vibes of everything going on ( he's just justifying the fact that he wants to be a menace ).

wasn't the holiday right before christmas, the halloween? yeah, that sounds about right—the perfect juxtaposition to the cheery vibes being shoved down his throat today. he racks his brain for a remix he has stored in the back of his head, finding just the right one for the occasion. something a mix of rock and metal, instead of the usual carols.

he sets off for the stage with his electric guitar once he submitted the music to the staff, keeping his introduction short. "i'm jay, hope you like what you hear." and if not, it doesn't matter to me either.

the music starts, his fingers move, his lips part. once again, he loses his bearings to the performance—unable to control the jitters on his skin as the song blares against the speakers. it's probably louder than the christmas songs being played earlier, ringing in his ears; but it's a nice sensation. to jay, anyways. not sure about anyone else.

this is fun, he can do this all day—lately, it's the only time he feels alive; when he sings his heart out until his throat stings, when he strums his guitar to the point his muscles burn.

eventually, the song ends. he's almost sweating by the end of it, exerting his body during every beat. but it was worth it.

( he gets off the stage not knowing the one he had been dreaming of reaching was listening in the entire time ).

This is a loaf of asiago chunk sourdough. Inside there are chunks of asiago. The dough was mixed with mashed garlic as well. The sound in the video is the cheese bubbling in the interior, echoing in the air pockets of the loaf. I'm going to eat the shit out of this for breakfast tomorrow.

This is the world's easiest sourdough loaf too, with only 6 hours total rising/proofing time!

Ingredients:

455g white bread flour

1 tsp sea salt

285g warm water

100g active, bubbly starter

120g Asiago cheese

(optional) crushed garlic to taste (I use about 2 cloves worth and it's a lot)

Asiago chunk sourdough bread

Cut asiago into smallish chunks

Combine flour and salt in one bowl

Combine starter and water in another bowl, stir until starter is dissolved.

Mix flour into the wet mixture until a dough begins to form. Knead on a well-floured surface until dough is smooth.

Mix in cheese (and garlic) until well incorporated

Dust rising bowl (solid! Not a basket!) with flour. Let dough rise 1 hour in warm spot, covered with plastic wrap

Fold over around the edges, place back in bowl seal-side down for 1 more hour

Repeat folding over around the edges, place back in bowl seal-side down for 1 more hour (3 total rising hours to here)

Shape dough into round if not, and place into proofing basket for 3 hours. Toward the end of this, preheat oven to 450F, with the cast iron pot so it's HOT when you add the dough.

Dump your dough onto your kneading board, fold over around the edges one more time, slice the top DEEPLY.

Bake 30 minutes seam-side down in covered cast iron pot at 450F. Remove lid, bake for another 30-40 minutes with lid off. (Cook time may vary on location and oven... MY OVEN takes this long. I just baked a loaf at a friend's that baked WAY differently, it was done in about 40 minutes total)

Remove and let cool completely before slicing. You can freeze it but slice it first.
