📽️ The Dark Knight (2008)

This is by far the best movie in this trilogy. Heath Ledger’s performance was obviously amazing and basically carried the entire movie. I honestly don’t know anyone who would disagree with me when I say that Heath Ledger is the best Joker that ever was or ever will be. Heath Ledger’s Joker is complemented by Christian Bale’s epic performance as Batman. Besides the greatest villain ever, Joker, there’s also Harvey Dent, another great hero-turned-villain. It may seem too ambitious to have more than one villain per movie — look what happened with Spider-Man Three — but this movie did it so well, and it worked. I have to be honest, the Batman voice is a bit annoying at times; I may not like that, but I will never stop liking this movie. There is a reason it has 9/10 stars on IMDb.

Sex/nudity: 2/10 (bikinis, kissing, low cut dresses, one very quick sexual reference)

Language: 2/10 (you would normally expect more from a superhero movie, but mild language is part of what makes this trilogy great — they don’t need language to spice up the movie)

Violence: 8/10 (I’m not even going to try to list it all 😂)

Overall rating: 9/10

'Christopher Nolan's best movies, from Inception to The Dark Knight, are also among the best movies of the 21st century, which proves how essential he is to understand blockbusters today.

The British-American director has been working behind the cameras for over thirty years, delivering some mind-bending, eye-catching work. Nolan's movies have a common ability to always surprise viewers, usually thanks to time-twisting stories that are never what they seem.

That's also true for his latest movie Oppenheimer, an unexpected box-office hit (blame the Barbenheimer phenomenon) that has arguably been the most talked-about of his career to date, even ahead of his excellent Batman trilogy. It's also one of this year's biggest awards contenders, with enough Oscar buzz to potentially secure the Academy Award for Best Picture.

The three-hour biopic about the life of J Robert Oppenheimer became Nolan's third highest-grossing movie ever, behind only The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. It's very close now to becoming Nolan's third billion-dollar movie.

But enough about the box office. The only ranking we care about is the quality of the movies...

10. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Rounding out Nolan's acclaimed Batman trilogy was never going to be easy post-The Dark Knight, and sadly, The Dark Knight Rises is more remembered for the controversy surrounding Tom Hardy's vocals than the movie itself.

Still, with standout performances from the likes of Michael Caine and Anne Hathaway, there are worse Batman movies out there.

Also, a near-perfect ending closes the door on Christian Bale's Dark Knight – hopefully not to return for the DCU's Multiverse.

7. Inception (2010)

Boasting Nolan's most A-list cast yet, Inception was like nothing we'd seen before when it debuted in 2010. Helping boost Joseph Gordon-Levitt's career, he plays brilliantly alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as the tragic Dom Cobb.

This Bond-inspired heist movie delves into the psyche of Cillian Murphy's mark, and as we go deeper, each layer is richer than the last.

Delivering one of the most debated endings of all time, we're still talking about whether that totem stopped spinning.

6. Dunkirk (2017)

Remembered alongside war epics like Saving Private Ryan, Dunkirk is probably the least Nolan movie in his catalogue.

Hitting the beaches of World War II, Dunkirk follows the famed 1940 evacuation on land, sea, and by air in three different timelines that offer up their own unique perspective.

Doing away with your typical tropes of a war movie, Dunkirk isn't afraid to get straight in there and hammer home the horrors of the war.

5. Batman Begins (2005)

Putting Christian Bale in the cape and cowl for the first time, Batman Begins ended the run of schlocky comic book movies of the early '00s to redefine the superhero origin story.

Restoring faith in the Dark Knight following Batman & Robin was no easy feat, but with Bale's Bruce Wayne channelling the darkness of Batman: The Animated Series, it defied expectations.

Also, opting for Liam Neeson's Ra's al Ghul as the villain instead of the Joker was a stroke of genius.

4. Oppenheimer (2023)

Combining the real-life history of Dunkirk and the theoretical physics of Tenet, Oppenheimer feels like the movie Nolan was always building to.

A dense three-hour biopic about J Robert Oppenheimer, aka "the father of the atomic bomb", it's a thrilling and thought-provoking watch with a never-better Cillian Murphy at its centre.

The movie's different timelines can be a bit confusing and Jean Tatlock's storyline is a bit questionable, but this is one of Nolan's best works.

Once watched, never forgotten.

1. The Dark Knight (2008)

Arguably the best comic book movie of all time and one of the best movies of all time, even superhero haters are hard-pushed not to be wowed by The Dark Knight.

Christian Bale is joined by Aaron Eckhart showing the softer side of the villainous Two-Face, while Gary Oldman's Jim Gordon is another highlight.

Of course, who could forget Heath Ledger's legendary performance as the Joker? For the opening bank heist alone, Ledger more than earned his posthumous Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.'

For The Love Of Duality...

So...I was doing some (early) Spring cleaning in the computer room and found an old shoebox filled with a veritable tangle of miscellaneous cables, two dusty modems, a broken gaming mouse and one CD-R curiously labeled, ‘Pics & Docs 2008’.

Back in 2008, I wrote a rather eclectic collection of what I call ‘fic bits’ that basically read like excerpts from completed stories from both the Marvel and DC comics universe, ‘Halloween’, ‘Friday The 13th’, and even one from the 1990 Liam Neeson film ‘Darkman’.

Now, I’ve loved Heath Ledger’s Joker from the 2008 film ‘The Dark Knight’ from the moment I saw him (despite not having much of a love for ‘clowns’), but when you combine that with my long-standing love for another of DC comic’s most iconic villains, Two-Face, and my strong ‘Polyamorous inclinations’, is it any wonder that I came up with one hell of a sexy thought involving the two of them?

Cheerfully posted for the love of sexy murder men and because I *knew* @frenzy-b would appreciate it, here’s something I wrote way back in 2008.

Warning - slightly NSFW Heath Ledger Joker x Two-Face x GN reader content under the cut, slight fear play, knife play...

You're in the middle of a huge bed covered in expensive black silk sheets and you're sitting in Harv's lap, your legs wrapped around his waist with your hands fisted in the collar of his shirt and he's kissing you so hard, so ruthlessly you're convinced your mouth's going to be bruised in the morning.

For a moment you forget that there's someone else on the bed besides you and 'Big Bad Harv', but when you feel the ice cold edge of a knife blade edge delicately up your spine, you can't help but jump, break the kiss and let out a frightened gasp.

You'd nearly forgotten he was there, kneeling on the bed behind you because he's so damned quiet, and you shiver when that cold blade comes to rest at the nape of your neck, just pressing lightly against your sensitive skin.

To be honest, you're DAMN afraid to turn your head and look behind you. You've always been afraid of clowns, ‘Coulrophobia’ your psych called it, and the Joker, well, he makes himself up like a clown to scare people on purpose. That’s why it took so damn long to convince him to come ‘au natural’ tonight...he’s frightening already, and you had made it very, VERY clear that if he wanted in, he’d either come sans makeup, or he could stay the hell away from you.

However, neither of you had even considered thinking of placing restrictions on ‘toys’, so when you press your face into Harv's shoulder and literally cling to his shirt, simply needing the reassurance that he’s not going to let anything bad happen to you like he promised, you can feel the tension rise in the room.

You hear the Joker licking his lips, running his tongue along the scars along the inside of his cheeks, a habit of his you're almost ashamed to admit is a little kinky, and you hold your breath when you hear Harv give a low threatening growl. You've heard that noise before, and it’s not hard to imagine that every time he's made it, he's killed someone who’s pissed him off.

You can feel his body tensing and his body start to shift when the knife suddenly slides down your neck, around to the front of your body and the flat part of the blade caresses gently down your side, and you don't have even a moment to think before you’re letting out a low breathy moan and unexpectedly arching your back in pleasure.

You open your eyes to see Harv alternating between giving you a confused look and the man behind you one that promises a slow, painful death if he makes one wrong move. Harv's got a temper on him, and you KNOW that if you don't do something fast, there's gonna be one hell of a bloody mess to clean up later.

Taking a slow shaky breath, you reach up, cup your trembling hand against the ruined side of Harv's face and force him to look only at you. "I...I liked it..." you manage to gasp out, shivering slightly as the Joker takes a little initiative and begins trailing the fingertips of his gloved hand against your other side, goosebumps erupting all over your body as a wave of chills moves through you.

For a moment, you can actually see a war waging in his eyes. On one side, the unblemished side, you see Harvey peering out at you, concerned, worried and hesitant, but only for a moment. With a fluidity and swiftness that frightens you, Harvey's suddenly gone, and in his place Harv slowly forms a wolfish grin and chuckles darkly.

"I always knew you were a kinky bitch" he rasps lowly, his face twisting into a horrible parody of a smile before he's kissing you again, and this time he holds you still when you writhe against him as the Joker begins a thorough exploration of your vulnerable, exposed back with the pocket knife he always seems to be playing with.

It's only when your lungs start screaming for air that you're forced to fight against him, clawing at his chest and leaving scarlet nail marks that he relents, allowing you to slump against him, gasping and twitching. You feel the Joker shifting around on the bed behind you, and you moan low in your throat when he reaches forward, places his hands on your shoulders and slowly begins pulling you backwards towards him.

You're surprised and even a little shocked, he's never allowed you to even so much as touch him before, and now he's encouraging you to do just that. Not wanting to make him think that you're ungrateful, you relax and allow him to pull you against him until your back is pressed against his chest, and, feeling a little brave, you tilt your head back and to the side and press your cheek against his shoulder.

At first, unlike Harv, who smells like expensive aftershave, cologne, cigar smoke and gun powder, all you can smell is the residue of the makeup he removed earlier, the lingering, mingled aromas of white face paint, cherry red lipstick and black eyeliner.

However, when you close your eyes, tilt you head up a little higher and inhale deeply with your nose pressed close against his bare skin, only then do you catch the scent of the real him, something reminiscent of an open dirt road in the summer, dry, dusty and earthy, and you like it. If Harv is refined, Joker’s wild, and you’ve always been a fan of contrasts.

'He's gone this far...how far will he let ME go?' you wonder just before you flick out the tip of your tongue and taste him, and another chill runs down your spine when he lets out a surprised laugh.

Opening your eyes you notice that Harv's still grinning at you, and your heart nearly jumps out of your chest when he begins stripping his shirt off, taking his time and undoing each button slowly, and with every inch of skin that he reveals you can feel yourself getting hotter...wetter.

Unlike Joker, who's not about brawn so much as brains, Harv's definitely got the edge in physical strength, and your fingers twitch with the need to run your hands over the newly exposed expanse of smooth lean muscle, but the instant you try to move away from Joker, it's the knife blade suddenly at your throat that stops you, freezes you in place.

AND...that’s all I wrote of it.

Y/n was so excited to see Luke, they haven’t been together in person for around a month because Y/n was busy in LA filming the next season of the Evelyn Hugo series. And now that that was done filming she quickly got on the next plane to New Jersey to see the boy. She purposely told him she would be there a day later than she actually was because she wanted to surprise him.

Just now she was in the elevator of the building, Jack had told her the code to get into the apartment building so as to not alert Luke of the surprise, when she got a call from the very boy she was going to see. Fishing the phone out of her pocket and glancing at the caller ID brought a soft smile to her face, “Hey, baby.” “Hey”

She heard the sound of pots and pans crashing together in the background of the call, “What’re you doing, hun?” “I’m cooking!” “You know how to do that?” She said in a teasing voice as the elevator door opened to the boy's floor, she continued the conversation as she walked towards his door.

“Yes! I do..” His voice slightly unsure, “Sounds like you’re having trouble.” She mumbles, now at his door trying to be quiet and waiting to knock, “Well the directions are unclear.” “Well, I’ll help you.” “How-” He was cut off by the sound of knuckles knocking against his door. He mumbled a small ‘one sec’ before making his way to answer the door which made the girl laugh.

The door opened revealing the smiling girl, and the very happily shocked boy. Almost without thinking Luke brings Y/n into a big hug, lifting her off the ground with his hand under her thighs. His forehead rested against her collarbone, as if he didn’t believe she was there, like she would slip away at any moment. After a few more moments, whispering their greetings small ‘hello’s and soft ‘i love you’s coming from both.

Luke finally let the girl slip down, her feet once again finding the floor. And as Luke goes to grab his girl’s suitcase, said girl did a once over of the apartment only to see water boiling over the pot and all over the stove, “Luke!” She rushed over to the stove a took the pot of the element and turned the heat down, “Who let you cook unsupervised?” “Jack usually does it.”

He walked past her, giving her a kiss on the top of her head and walked down the hallway to his room where he set the girl’s bags down and came back to the kitchen to now find that Y/n had taken over the entire operation of making dinner.

“You’re not having boxed mac & cheese for dinner.” She muttered, shaking her head and placing the box back in the cupboard. Collecting a few things she sees in the cupboards and fridge to make him a good dinner. She found an onion, which she was very surprised by. It must have been the influence of Jack’s girlfriend.

Y/n was already cutting up the onions when Luke came back into the kitchen, and ofcourse Luke came up from behind, his hands wrapped around her waist and his chin rested on her shoulder to watch her actions. He eventually asked to help so she gave him little jobs. Then they sat on the couch, Y/n between Lukes legs as they ate dinner and ended up watching ‘10 things I hate about you’ per Y/n’s request, really it was just because she loved Luke’s reaction when she wouldn’t shut up about how hot Heath Ledger is in it.

“-and he is just, like, beyond what should be humanly capable, y’know?” Grabbing his drink from the side table, Luke says, “He’s good as the joker.” This caused the girl to let out a small laugh.

After the movie the two turned on a show, and just cuddled and talked until they would hopefully fall asleep together.

“Why do all NHL players like golf?” “I don’t know.. It’s a sport to play in summer? And I guess you don’t have to think too hard, and we can just hang out and talk?”

They were now laying across the couch, Y/n’s head on his chest, Luke’s hands running up and down the girl’s back under her shirt as ‘Bob’s burgers’ played in the background. She drew small doodles on his bicep, as they both lolled each other to sleep as they talked.

“That makes more sense than what I thought.” “What did you think?” “I thought it was because it’s the same action.. Or close.”

She didn’t expand thinking Luke understood, she assumed that was self-explanatory, but then Luke asked, “What?” “Y’know, like, shooting a puck and hitting a golf ball is the same action in the hips.” “Okay.” Luke said, softly chuckling as he brought one hand to the girl’s hair, giving her head scratches and twirling the strands between his fingers.
