Imagine how great it would be if the PJO show is successful and gets the Harry Potter treatment where we get to see these kids grow up throughout the show!
If the Golden Trio was our big 2000's trio, I hope the Original Trio will be our big 2020's trio馃挋馃挋馃挋
#these are my 2 favorite middle grade book series and I'd love if I can have well done adaptations for both of them to squeal over#I actually didn't get into the HP movies until they were all well done and over with#so i didn't really get to 'grow up' with the characters in real time as the movies were coming out#so I'm really hoping I'll get that chance with the actors in the PJO series#how cool would it be to watch the Original Trio and the rest of CHB grow up alongside the show in real time?#also my mom and I love marathoning HP together and I'm really hoping the PJO show can be the next big thing we obsess over together#I convinced her to watch PJO with me be telling her PJO is like HP and showing her the trailer and musical songs#she was interested and said she's into mythology too so its a start!#tbh I'm looking forward to the PJO show way more than the HP reboot#mostly because I'm so attacted to the films and think they're pretty good adaptations even if they're not perfect#but with PJO we don't have any GOOD and FAITHFUL adaptations at all#what movies? there are no PJO movies#I still might give the HP reboot a watch esp. if its good but still. the movies mean so much to me#i love both series and there's nothing wrong with that#please be nice#percy jackson#percy jackson and the olympians#percy jackson tv show#disney+#the original trio#annabeth chase#grover underwood#harry potter#harry potter movies#harmione granger#ron weasley#the golden trio#harry potter reboot#hbo max#2000s trio and 2020s trio

dam i feel like a breaking my silence meme at this point ahahaha
but i wanted to talk a bit about the criticism leveled against criticism that any criticism of the show will affect whether or not we get a second season.
bc like. if percy jackson doesn't get renewed, i feel like the current fanbase is liable to turn on good faith criticism and blame that as the reason.
some facts, first: the show has become the 3rd most watched streaming original series. it debuted at 4th. the viewership numbers, if anything, are going up. (thank you variety for the useful article) this is due to good marketing and the decision of the producers or disney to air the show weekly, episode by episode.
from what i've seen, criticism has been in the minority of posts. criticism of the pjo show is not the thing that gets tens of thousands of likes or reblogs (keeping in mind that i'm mostly on tumblr goodbye to twitter that hellsite) this show has been widely praised, widely defended, and widely discussed.
i think, especially because this fanbase has been burned before, and because of the recent cancellations of adaptations, there's a lot of paranoia (perhaps justified) going around about cancellation in general. and i understand that. this has been a widely anticipated series, a widely beloved set of books. i would hate for this show to be cancelled.
but. but but but.
cancellation is a decision that is made by the company. and i'd urge people to not forget that. the enemy here (in regards to cancellation but also just in general) is disney, is the company. cancelling the show would be a financial and business decision. i highly highly doubt that any criticism on social media (at least in regards to the pjo show) would become big enough to become a deciding factor in this decision.
and if it were? i would still ask why you would blame good faith criticism. anyone whose "criticism" is clearly poorly veiled racism can rot in hades, by the way. but if it is good faith criticism that cancels the show, that means that there would have been enough people who were dissatisfied that people up top took notice and agreed. and if that were the case, why be mad at the people who gave that criticism? if that were the case, why not be critical of the writing or the directing of a show that people were clearly dissatisfied with? why not ask better from the show producers?
ig all this to say that i'd really really warn against advocating for censorship in the hope that it might incrementally change a decision that is ultimately not open or transparent to the public. most of the criticism that i've seen has been by fans, has been by people who would love to love the show. and if you don't want to see that, by all means block or mute or do whatever you need to do. but don't blame them. don't tell them to shut up because you are afraid.

I loved the first two episodes of PJO. There were changes, but it was still really good. The third episode was a little underwhelming/disappointing for me. They made a lot of changes to how the plot unfolds and I don't get why. More on that below
The oracle was great.
They didn鈥檛 include the monster attacking camp half blood. That was a big part of Chiron deciding the quest needed to happen even though Percy didn't have any training. Also, the attack is one of the things that led Percy to realize Luke had been working against them all along.
There was no fight on the bus. No explosion. No struggle. We didn't even see how they got away. There was no mention of them realizing their bags were left on the bus. (Not the biggest deal but I thought it was funny when Percy pointed it out) We don't hear the furies saying "where is it?" Which comes into play later on when Percy is putting together the pieces.
Annabeth immediately thinks the statues are petrified monsters right away and guesses that Aunty Em is for Medusa. Medusa doesn't try to hide her identity. In the book she tricks them and I thought that was more entertaining and more suspenseful when they put the pieces together and figure it out. And then they go in the basement instead of leaving the house? The reveal of the statues in the basement would have been better imo if the trio didn't already know it was Medusa. I don't get why Alecto followed them to Aunty Em's. In the book, (at least one of the reasons) Annabeth doesn't like Percy is because Athena and Poseidon don't like each other. But the episode made it seem more like a lack of trust between Percy and Annabeth. I don't know if that grounds the conflict more, but I like how in the book it seems like Annabeth doesn't like Percy mostly because of their parents not getting along. She doesn't even try to get to know him. She just decides she doesn't like him because their parents hate each other. To me, it's an example of how the Gods influence everything.
The pacing felt off to me. The kids figured things out fast and then there is no suspense as they start to piece together that something is off. The conversation in the basement after dealing with Medusa felt rushed. It felt like they were trying to cover a lot in one conversation. A lot of the dialogue this episode felt like that. Fitting too much information into one conversation.
There was no mention of why Percy couldn't wear the flying shoes. Yeah they already told him why they couldn't fly but telling him he couldn't wear the shoes would have been a call back to that. And after the bus, when they're walking towards Aunty Em's, Grover isn't wearing anything to hide his goat legs. I was surprised he was wearing shorts. And no fake shoes. Trying to keep the fake shoes on was a recurring thing throughout the book.
I liked that Annabeth positioned them next to the toilet on the bus to cover Percy's scent. But then Grover said it's not actually about the scent. It's different for each monster. It could be fear or greed. Which doesn't make sense with Sally staying with Smelly Gabe to cover Percy's scent. Or Sally using Percy's jacket to distract the minotaur. Or Annabeth having them sit right by the smelly bathroom. None of that makes sense with Grover saying that it's not actually the person's scent that attracts monsters. Am I missing something there?
I want to love it. I thought the first two episodes were great, despite the changes. But the third episode... they did hit all the plot points I guess. But they changed how everything happened and I don't see how all the changes benefited the story.
I'm nervous to see how the rest of the season will play out. The cast and the producers and Becky and Rick all said this is a faithful adaptation of the book. It did have all the plot points but I feel like everything unfolded differently than the book and they left out important parts and I don't get why.
