From C-Folds to Origami: The Art of Menstrual Cup Folding
If you’re looking for an alternative to pads and tampons, you may have heard about menstrual cups. A menstrual cup is a small, bell-shaped cup made of medical-grade silicone or rubber which is designed to be inserted into the vagina like a tampon during menstruation. Menstrual cups are an excellent alternative to traditional period care products as they are more eco-friendly and cost-effective, also they can also be worn for up to 12 hours at a time. But before you can start using a menstrual cup, you’ll need to learn how to properly fold it. In this blog post, we’ll go over some popular menstrual cup folding methods.
1. C-fold: The C-fold is one of the most popular menstrual cup folding methods. To do a C-fold, follow these steps:
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Hold the cup in one hand with the rim facing up.
Use your other hand to press the opposite sides of the cup together.
Fold the cup in half so that the sides are touching each other.
Now, fold the cup in half again, so that it forms a “C” shape.
Hold the folded cup firmly between your thumb and forefinger, and insert it into your vagina.
2. Punch-down fold:  The punch-down fold is another popular menstrual cup folding method. Let’s see how this works:
Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Hold the menstrual cup in one hand with the rim facing up.
Use your other hand to press down on the rim of the cup with your index finger.
While still pressing down, use your thumb to push the opposite side of the rim down as well.
The cup should now be folded in half with the rim pointing downwards.
Hold the folded cup between your thumb and forefinger, and insert it into your vagina.
3. 7-Fold: The 7-fold is a bit more complicated, but many people find it to be the most comfortable fold. The following method is how a 7-fold works with menstrual cups:
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Hold the menstrual cup in one hand with the rim facing up.
Use your other hand to press the cup down and inwards, creating a diagonal fold on one side of the cup.
Now, use your thumb to press down on the opposite side of the rim, creating a second diagonal fold.
The cup should now be folded in a “7” shape.
Hold the folded cup between your thumb and forefinger, and insert it into your vagina.
4. Double 7-fold: The double 7-fold is similar to the 7-fold, but provides more coverage. Here’s how a double 7-fold is done:
Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Hold the menstrual cup in one hand with the rim facing up.
Use your other hand to press the cup down and inwards, creating a diagonal fold on one side of the cup.
Now, use your thumb to press down on the opposite side of the rim, creating a second diagonal fold.
The cup should now be folded in a “7” shape.
Repeat this fold again, so that you have two “7” shapes side by side.
Hold the folded cup between your thumb and forefinger, and insert it into your vagina.
5. Origami fold: The origami fold is a bit more complex, but it can be great for those who want a more secure fit. Let’s see how the origami fold works:
Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Hold the cup in one hand with the rim facing up.
Use your other hand to press down on the rim and fold it in half.
With the rim still folded, bring one side of the cup down to meet the opposite side, creating a triangle shape.
Fold the triangle in half again to create a smaller triangle.
Hold the folded cup firmly between your thumb and forefinger, and insert it into your vagina.
6. Half-diamond fold: The half-diamond fold is a simple but effective folding method. Lets’ see how a half-diamond fold is done:
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water.
Hold the cup in one hand with the rim facing up.
Use your other hand to press down on one side of the rim and fold it in half.
Now, fold the cup in half again, but this time only fold one side of the rim down to create a half-diamond shape.
Try to hold the folded cup between your thumb and forefinger, and insert it into your vagina.
Remember, the most important thing is to find a menstrual cup folding method that feels comfortable for you. With a bit of practice and some trials and errors, you’ll soon find the perfect fold for your comfort.
No matter which menstrual cup folding method you choose, it’s important to remember to relax and take your time when inserting the cup. If you’re having trouble getting the cup inside, try using a water-based lubricant or adjusting the fold until it feels comfortable. With a bit of patience and some practice, you’ll soon find that using a menstrual cup is a breeze and an excellent investment as compared to pads and tampons.

bonjour mom this might be a stupid question but i'm super interested in environmental protection and i'm trying to go vegan and buy less and all that jazz but everything is super expensive if it's local or it's okay but they have to fly it here etc and i understand your idea of only getting quality stuff but like i don't know yet what i like so i don't want to splurge (not that i could anyway) and i want to avoid amazon but it's super practical and at least it's for sure not a scam and i WILL get my package etc, and sometimes i do like a bit of dairy or i'll have birthday cake but i feel super guilty about it and i'm getting super anxious, do you have any advice??
Hello dear (and oh boy, this is going to be another wall of text),
I've been there. I went vegetarian with the hopes of becoming vegan back in 2012, went super minimalist, started to buy way less, switched to bulk and organic, got a menstrual cup, felt like I had to donate money I didn't have because others needed it more than me and felt awful every time I binned something thinking I actually didn't need that thing and that was a selfish decision, and it was so hard to see other people around me not caring about these things. It was eating me alive and making me bitter and sadder than a bag of rocks. It's a real thing called eco-anxiety and it's well-documented at this point so you can look it up.
In my case, researching capitalism and going to therapy were the key. Because little old me being vegan not only wasn't sustainable because I had personal issues with food and ADHD and it made it worse, but at the end of the day it's not going to be enough to annihilate centuries of specism and make the industry change its mind; just like little old me feeling guilty about buying ice cream because I was going to have to throw away the pot is the most insignificant thing in the world when you look at what Nestlé or cruise boats are doing to the planet.
Whatever you do, you will have to sacrifice something and it will never be enough - you've already noticed it. Change comes gradually, when people come together and stand against what's wrong, which has been harder to do these days where we routinely lose family members and friends to Facebook radicalisation. My advice is to do what I've been doing, after years of trial and error: putting myself first, staying realistic about my goals, practising empathy, remembering to be a role model rather than a preacher, and giving myself time before I make a decision.
I like you prefer to boycott Amazon but between shipping fees, delivery time, dodgy neighbours, prices, fear of scammers (...), I used it occasionally to get stuff whenever it felt like the best solution. But then, at the beginning of the pandemic, I bought face masks online from a French pharmacy, which cost quite a lot but I was trying to do the good thing. Three weeks later I received a white piece of plastic that looked like every package from Wish videos on Youtube from somewhere in China that contained the masks with a little note in broken English stating that those were only for fashion and couldn't be worn for medical reasons.
I did some research and realised that they bought the items for pennies on Aliexpress and got the suppliers to directly send me my order - it's a very scammy and common concept called drop shipping. If you're looking for anything brandless on Amazon (from sunglasses to hairbrushes to decoration and gym equipment), check out Aliexpress and your cart will go from 132,99 to 17 bucks in under five minutes. So after years of judging people who use Aliexpress or Wish, I started doing the same, because what I receive is the exact same thing, but there's no mediocre business tycoon wannabee making a profit on my behalf in between.
And ever since, I've rethought my beliefs. I no longer feel bad about wanting children even though every human being creates a lot of waste in a world where Kylie Jenner takes a private jet to avoid a 40-minute drive. I no longer feel bad about occasionally flying to go on vacation because I have only one shot at living and once in a while I deserve a break. I no longer feel bad about doing my nails even though I will have to buy and dispose of cotton buds because I'm tired of neglecting my happiness to avoid worsening problems I haven't even caused.
I still do what I can. I'm still conscious of what I do, don't waste water, buy all my clothes secondhand, donate money whenever I can and all that, but I'm at peace. I try and that's what matters in a world where succeeding is not an option.
Love,
Mum

I know I'm late and this is random and disjointed, but
don't buy anything pertaining to your period or pregnancy online (tampons, pads, menstrual cups, plan b, etc). amazon absolutely tracks that, and we all know j*ff b*zos will absolutely sell your data for a few bucks.
i know i literally just said to avoid amazon, but i bought a huge pack of pregnancy tests on amazon after i swapped over to the iud and i test every month. they're the cheap strips you dip into your pee, but the strips are just as accurate as the fancy ones. test yourself every single month even if you have a period. you may be able to catch it early enough to take care of it with the pill. i don't know where else you can buy pregnancy tests in bulk except maybe the dollar store.
use cash to buy your supplies if you can. if you can't, get a gift card. i'm fairly certain that the rules haven't changed since i left the banking industry, but due to anti-money laundering laws, you may not be able to buy gift cards with cash. someone please correct me if i'm wrong, though!
do not ever use preferred shopper cards/discount cards/anything linked to your purchase history and your name. there was a story a few years ago about a young woman was getting ads for maternity clothes and diapers before she even knew she was pregnant. you don't even necessarily have to be buying diapers or baby clothes - sometimes, the combinations of things you buy can predict if you are pregnant.
put in a request to have your data erased from all fitness/period tracking apps. then delete those apps from your phone. you might get by with the calendar on your phone. in the old days, we used paper calendars, but...like everything else, including digital data, it can be seized and used against you. if you use lastpass, you can set up a secure note where you can hide your period data. (this might be me being paranoid, but i'd also be wary of anything you use to log your food and exercise - if that target story is anything to go by, days where you log certain types of food/little exercise may create a trend that could be used against you.)
if you do go to an abortion clinic, turn off your data, turn on airplane mode, and turn off your phone. i'm not a tech expert, so i don't know anything about how tracking works. if anyone knows how apple is able to locate your phone even when it's off, please let me know.
stock up on plan b and your form of contraception if you can. be sure to hide your supply somewhere dark and cool.
given the state of things right now, one form of birth control is no birth control at all. double or triple up if you can.
the pill and the ring can both be rendered inactive with a few seconds in the microwave. it's hard to see pinpricks to condoms in the dark. sometimes, you may not be able to feel if your partner takes the condom off. if you are having sex, make sure you bring your own. you will not be able to tell visually that your birth control has been tampered with. i know a lot of people who think 'oh my partner would never do that' but...sadly, you cannot trust anyone right now. stay vigilant, let them call you paranoid if they want. it's better to be thought a weirdo than end up pregnant.
antibiotics make your birth control ineffective.
if you don't want children at all, see if your doctor will sterilize you. r/childfree on reddit has a sidebar where you can see if there are childfree doctors in your area. make an appointment ASAP before states criminalize pregnancy prevention in general.
there's a post floating around where the fda has made it so that usps can ship abortion pills via mail, which is great! but states are already looking at ways to crack down on this. it's a federal crime to tamper with someone's mail, but these are red states we are talking about. if you have horses...misoprostol is used to treat stomach ulcers.
if all else fails and you find yourself pregnant in the early stages, you can look at herbal/natural methods. this is a pdf to the sage femme collective.
things to consider - maybe make your own reusable pads so you don't have to put your business out there? i don't know how to sew so that's out of my realm. someone on reddit said they were having their daughter hide their period products at school. they can't track your period if they don't know you're on it?
be cautious if you have an IUD - i think Oklahoma is the one going to 'moment of fertilization' instead of implantation, so anything that prevents a fertilized egg from implanting may be outlawed pretty soon.
if you're part of the auntie network, be very careful about who you get into a car with. a religious zealot has already burned one satanic temple to the ground, there's no telling what they'll do to someone trying to end their pregnancy.
when midterms come, please. for the love of god, make sure you're registered to vote. vote blue even if you don't like the candidates. no vote is a vote for republicans because they vote religiously.
above all else, please stay safe

hi! i hope you're not uncomfortable with the question. i don't always have access to boiling water to sanitize my menstrual cup and i was wondering if you knew other methods? also, i made the mistake 5 years ago to buy a plastic one but i want to switch to silicone. any suggestions?
luckily the boiling water part is not cleaning your menstrual cup, it's sanitising it. you can do it between every cycle, or you can just do it every now and again. so, you can just boil whenever you have access to boiling water (you can also boil water in the microwave if that helps).
it's the best thing to do, to increase the life of a menstrual cup, and guarantee that it's safe, but the cups are medical grade silicone, and so are rather bacteria resistant. you should wash it between cycles with non scented/mild scented, non antibacterial (that stuff can mess with your vagina) liquid soap and water. you can also order specialty menstrual cup wash solution online, which typically contains sanitising agents.
but yeah, don't worry too much, as long as you're cleaning it with some kind of mild soap between every cycle (washing your hands before and after, the bacteria that's on your hands has far greater risk of causing an infection than the cup), and boiling it every few cycles, then you're all good. many websites say 'BOIL EVERY TIME' (some even say 'wash with soap and water twice a day during your cycle' lmao, asking to give women yeast infections, just rinsing with water during swaps is enough) in the same way that people say 'YOU HAVE TO REMOVE A TAMPON AFTER 3 HOURS'. due to tiny risk of something bad happening, people draw a harsh line, but actual health sites are like 'no, it's medical grade silicone (as long as you're using MEDICAL GRADE), it's designed to resist bacteria growth, frequent boiling breaks down the cups quicker, so just doing it every couple of months is fine'.
here's an article written by an obgyn, who states that boiling every single time is more for peace of mind and stain avoidance

Throughout history, people have devised various tools and artifacts to manage menstruation, reflecting the cultural, technological, and societal contexts of their times. These artifacts have evolved over centuries, providing insights into the ways societies have addressed the practical and cultural aspects of menstruation. Here are some historical tools for managing periods:
1. Menstrual Cloths:
Before the advent of disposable sanitary products, reusable menstrual cloths were commonly used. These were often made from layers of fabric, such as linen or cotton, which could be washed and reused.
2. Menstrual Belts:
In the early to mid-20th century, women often used menstrual belts to secure sanitary napkins in place. These belts had straps that fastened around the waist and attached to the napkin, providing a more secure and discreet method of wearing menstrual protection.
3. Sanitary Aprons:
Some historical artifacts include sanitary aprons, which were designed to be worn over undergarments to secure and conceal menstrual cloths. These aprons often featured pockets to hold the menstrual cloth in place.
4. Wooden or Metal Tampons:
In ancient times, women used a variety of materials for tampons, including wool, paper, or plant fibers. In the 19th century, wooden or metal tampons with attached strings were introduced. These were later replaced by the cotton tampons we are more familiar with today.
5. Menstrual Cups:
Menstrual cups have a longer history than one might think. The first patent for a menstrual cup was filed in 1932. However, they gained popularity in the late 20th and early 21st centuries as an environmentally friendly and cost-effective alternative to disposable products.
6. Menstrual Sponges:
Natural sea sponges were historically used as menstrual hygiene products. Women would insert a soft, absorbent sponge into the vagina to manage menstrual flow.
7. Menstrual Underwear:
While modern menstrual underwear has gained popularity in recent years, historical versions of absorbent undergarments existed. These would be worn in conjunction with other menstrual tools for added protection.
8. Menstrual Charting:
Women have historically used charts or calendars to track their menstrual cycles. These charts helped predict the timing of menstruation and ovulation, aiding in family planning.
9. Menstrual Huts:
In some cultures, menstruating women were isolated in menstrual huts or designated spaces during their periods. This practice aimed to address cultural taboos and maintain ritual purity.
10. Rituals and Ceremonies:
Various cultures have rituals and ceremonies associated with menstruation, marking its significance as a transformative and cyclical aspect of women's lives.
Exploring historical artifacts for managing periods provides a glimpse into the resourcefulness and adaptability of individuals across different cultures and eras.

What Are Menstrual Cups & How Do You Use Them?
Menstrual cups are menstrual hygiene devices that are used during the periods. These devices are not new but have gained popularity lately with the increase in demand for a more sustainable and safe menstrual hygiene product for females and the environment as well.
The menstrual cup comes in a bell shape that is used to collect menstrual blood. It does not absorb the menstrual blood but rather collects it, creating scope for collecting more menstrual fluid. Thus, we can use it for a longer period of time during the day without fussing about changing it frequently unlike pads and tampons.
Menstrual cups come with an array of advantages that are listed below.
Advantages of using menstrual cups
The affordable cost:
The most important factor to consider while buying menstrual cups is their affordable cost. It definitely falls under the umbrella of affordable products if we calculate its overall cost that is much cheaper than tampons and sanitary pads. Once you buy menstrual cup you do not have to worry about buying it every month as they are reusable menstrual hygiene products. Follow the instructions on its pack and get going for years. You just need a menstrual cup wash to clean it after use to make it ready to reuse. So, after calculating the cost spent on napkins and tampons over the years you will see that you have spent peanuts compared to money spent on tampons and pads.
Use for a longer time:
You can wear menstrual cups for longer durations as they do not cause any harm to your skin and are not dangerous to your health. The average time to wear menstrual cups is up to 12 hours a day depending upon your period’s flow. So, you do not need to bother about changing it, but if we compare the duration during the day, the pads and tampons can be worn for up to 6 hours only and that is a challenge for many.
Experience fewer leakage:
A menstrual cup keeps you safe against leakages. It does not put you in embarrassing situations with your clothes getting stained. It is inserted inside the vagina to collect menstrual flow and creates a tight seal against the walls of the vaginal canal thus, avoiding leaks. On the other hand, when using pads and tampons, there are more chances of you getting caught in embarrassing situations and you may also experience leakages especially during nights. when you use menstrual cups you are free from all these situations.
Can carry out your daily routine:
You can carry out your daily routine without any hassle if you are using a menstrual cup. You should feel comfortable doing your daily chores and regular activities while you are on your periods, but pads and tampons make it tough for you. You can easily carry out activities like swimming, exercising, and gymming while wearing menstrual cups as it does not even feel like it is there making life easy for you and other females.
They do not create mess:
The menstrual cups do not create a mess for you as they are easy to use and clean. You can wear it for 8-10 hours and forget about it to live a carefree life. It does not make you feel irritated, sticky, cause any rashes, redness or swelling. All you need to do is to wear it, remove it, wash it and reuse it. It does not require too much effort to wash it as it can be easily cleaned using menstrual cup wash or can be sterilized using a sterilizer that is easily available in the market. You can comfortably sterilize it at home also using the traditional method.
They do not contain plastic:
The menstrual cups are made up of 100 percent medical-grade silicone that is FDA-approved and is absolutely safe to use for the skin. It does not cause any bacterial infections if compared to pads and tampons as it does not absorb menstrual blood but collects it in its bell-shaped container. Moreover, plastic, insecticide, pesticides, artificial fragrance and colors, and other chemicals used in pads and tampons are a major cause of many deadly diseases in women including cancer and TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome).
They are eco-friendly:
The menstrual cups are not only safe for females but for the environment as well. The pads, tampons, panty liners and their tonnes of waste takes hundreds of years to get decomposed. This is proving fatal for our water bodies and the environment. But if we look at the menstrual cups, they can be easily used for 8 to 10 years if you follow the instructions given on its packaging that contribute to negligible menstrual waste. Moreover, menstrual cups are made up of medical-grade silicone that does not harm the environment. They are BPA-Free, chemical free, toxins free, and thus, they contribute to only a minimal amount of waste when compared with other menstrual hygiene products like pads and tampons.
How do you use menstrual cups?
All the above-mentioned benefits make the menstrual cups one of the most sought-after feminine hygiene products. A product that can be used in the most hassle-free manner and can bring positive change in the lives of females.
Choosing the right size of menstrual cup is the foremost thing. You should first choose the right size according to your age and other parameters and then divulge in other things. Wearing it is simple as you just need to fold the rim side of the cup, take a comfortable position and apply lube to insert it inside your vagina. Twist it a little to pop open it, creating a suction against the walls of the vaginal canal so that there are no gaps for leakages. Let it be there for as long as you need to use it.
Removing it is as easy as inserting it. When you want to remove the menstrual cup, you need to pinch the base of the cup to release the suction and then slowly remove it. Empty the fluid in it and wash it with menstrual cup wash to reuse the cup again. Simply buy menstrual cup online to enjoy stress free periods and make your life easy going.

It can also interact with certain medications, so it's important to talk to your doctor before drinking ginger tea if you are taking any medications. People who are pregnant or breastfeeding should also speak to their doctor before consuming ginger tea as it contains certain compounds that could affect the fetus or newborn. It has been used for centuries to soothe an upset stomach, reduce inflammation, and help with digestion. While ginger tea can be beneficial in many ways, there are also some risks associated with drinking it. The most common risk associated with drinking ginger tea is heartburn or acid reflux. Ginger can increase the production of stomach acid, which can lead to heartburn or acid reflux in some people. This is especially true if you are already prone to heartburn or acid reflux. If you experience any symptoms after drinking ginger tea, it's best to talk to your doctor about your options. Another potential risk of drinking ginger tea is an allergic reaction. If you have a known allergy to any of the ingredients in ginger tea, it's best to avoid drinking it. Additionally, if you experience any symptoms such as hives,
rash, or difficulty breathing after drinking ginger tea, seek medical attention immediately as it could be a sign of a serious allergic reaction. Drinking Too Much Ginger Tea and Negative Effects on Your Stomach Ginger tea is a popular beverage due to its many health benefits, including improving digestion and reducing nausea. However, drinking too much of it can have negative effects on your stomach. High amounts of ginger tea can irritate the stomach lining and cause stomach upset or even nausea. If you experience any of these symptoms after drinking ginger tea, stop drinking it and consult your physician. Ginger tea also has diuretic properties, which means it increases the amount of urine produced. This can lead to dehydration if not balanced with other fluids such as water or low-sugar juices. Dehydration can cause electrolyte imbalances that can lead to more serious side effects such as dizziness, fatigue, muscle cramps, and confusion. Ginger tea also contains caffeine, which can be hard on your digestive system if consumed in large quantities. Caffeine stimulates your digestive system and can lead to increased acid production and heartburn. It is important to monitor the amount of caffeine you are consuming from ginger tea as well as other sources like coffee and energy drinks. Finally, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it is important to discuss with your doctor before drinking ginger tea as it may have side effects on you or your baby’s health. In conclusion, while ginger tea does have many health benefits when consumed in moderation, drinking too much of it can have negative effects on your stomach such as irritation, nausea, dehydration and heartburn due to its diuretic properties and caffeine content. An online petition in Kosovo calling for the lowering or removal of VAT on menstrual products such as menstrual pads, tampons, cups and underwear, has received over 5,600 signatures in just three days.
The petition, organised by the woman rights NGO Center for Information, Criticism and Action, QIKA, says many Kosovo women cannot afford to buy menstrual products for financial reasons, leading them to being “forced to use unsafe materials for their health during the menstrual cycle”.
Currently, Kosovo taxes period products at 18 per cent VAT. The activists want the government to tax period products the same way it taxes essential goods such as bread – at 8 per cent – or scrap the tax altogether.
They say the 18 per cent Value Added Tax levied on these items is an extra discriminatory burden on financially vulnerable women, leading to a phenomenon known as “period poverty”.
Leonida Molliqaj, from QIKA, told BIRN they expect to gather around 10,000 signatures soon, considering the petition has been well received in less than a week.
“After we have a considerable amount of signatures, we will sit with representatives of institutions to request the removal of the tax,” Molliqaj said, expressing concern that no political figure or important government official had given any statement regarding the issue.
“They have decided to remain silent, so we decided to organize citizens,” Molliqaj said, explaining that QIKA had sent personalized letters to MPs asking them to initiate a change in legislation, but they had received very few positive responses, not enough to send the case to parliament.
BIRN reported in August 2022 that the average family in Kosovo spends around 10.3 euros a month on period products, which is a burden for many, considering the official employment rate for women is just 14 per cent.
The minimum salary in Kosovo for people under 35 is just 130 euros, rising to 170 euros for anyone older.
In the private sector, according to the state statistics agency, the average monthly salary after tax in 2021 was 376 euros.
Women in Kosovo work mainly in wholesale and the retail trade, healthcare and education. As of 2021, the average wage in wholesale and retail was 324 euros after tax, 559 euros in healthcare and 461 in education.
