Catalan pharmacies hand out free reusable period products | Catalonia | The Guardian
The Catalonia region in Spain has begun providing free reusable menstrual cups, period underwear and cloth pads at pharmacies, in one of the first initiatives of its kind in the world.
The programme is part of a drive by the regional government to reduce period poverty after a survey found 44% of women using menstruation products in Catalonia could not afford their first-choice product and 23% said they had to reuse items designed for single use.

Just Drink
Working on a few things tidied away in my writing vault. @jilymicrofics ☕☕☕☕ Read it on AO3.
James peered warily into the teacup that was being offered to him, holding his palms open to begrudgingly accept it. The amber-coloured liquid was murky, and if he was honest didn’t look very inviting - not what he had expected when Lily had offered to make him a cup of tea while they completed Professor McGonagall’s latest dastardly Transfiguration essay before bed. They’d secluded themselves in their shared head students’ space after doing their usual castle patrol. Lights out wasn’t for another hour and he was sure to snap grumpily at the excited chattering of the first years if they tried to finish in the Gryffindor common room.
“Do you want it or not Potter?” she asked, briskly.
“It’s got no milk in it,” he replied.
“It’s cinnamon tea. It’s not supposed to” She thrusted the cup into his palms.
“Personally, I’d go for an English Breakfast or Earl Grey,” James muttered, swirling the contents of his cup with one hand and letting spirals of steam waft up his nose.
The aroma was a blend of warmth, slight fruitiness, and almost vanilla-like. It reminded him of third year when he’d tried Divination for the supposedly easy grade until he and Sirius got themselves kicked out for smashing too many precious cups and saucers.
“You’re the one who's been complaining about feeling stiff all week thanks to Quidditch! It's good for you. Look here, read the packet if you don’t trust me.” Lily grabbed the small purple cardboard box off the kitchenette bench and tossed it at him, and he caught it swiftly in one hand despite the lackluster throw.
He had to admit she was right, he had been complaining about feeling stiff and sore. But their first match of the year was just a week away and the team needed all the practice they could get. James scanned the box description briefly.
Made from the inner bark of the cinnamon tree, and steeped in boiling water, Cinnamon tea is full of beneficial compounds that may offer various health benefits. These benefits include aiding weight loss, improving heart health, alleviating menstrual cramps, and reducing inflammation and blood sugar levels.
He could now understand why the girls from her dormitory were always coming in to raid Lily’s private herbal tea stash from the kitchenette. She had an entire cabinet full of boxes of various fruity concoctions she brought from home or bought from Madam Puddifoot's tea shop in Hogsmeade.
“I’m not PMSing Evans. I just have a twinge in my neck, that's all.” James scoffed.
“Keep reading, idiot,” Lily scolded. “It’ll loosen you up.”
“Drinking Cinnamon tea at night before going to bed helps relax tired muscles, build immunity, boost metabolism, and aid digestion - all this while you sleep peacefully!” James read aloud as he brought the cup to his lips and took a few cautious sips. The taste was slightly tangy but it wasn’t terrible.
“Could do with a bit of sugar,” he muttered.
“I already put a little honey in it for sweetness, you don’t need any more.”
“You tellin’ me I’m sweet enough Evans?” James responded coyly.
“Just drink your tea, you bellend.”

Hey I just got my first period and I'm so fucking dysphoric about it what do I do I'm so confused I feel like shit and my dysphoria is through the roof
Lee says:
I would start off by exploring your menstrual product options which can make it easier to cope with having your period.
Period underwear is probably the easiest product to use because you already know how to wear underwear so you don't have to worry about putting it on wrong. Period underwear has built-in absorbent layers and is reusable and discreet to wear, but some people might feel self-conscious about washing them at the end of the day if they aren't used to washing their own underwear and don't have a private bathroom, or they might have dysphoria about washing them. You will likely need more than one pair (at least 2 pairs) even if you wash them daily because they need to dry, so there's a bit of an up-front cost but then since they're reusable it can be cheaper than pads and tampons in the long run.
The step below period underwear in terms of usability is probably pads. They tend to be pretty easy to use and also don't require insertion into the body, but if you don't place them right sometimes blood can leak around the edges where the pad isn't. Another placement issue might come up if you wear some styles of men's underwear, like boxers, it can be hard to use pads unless you wear a different type of underwear underneath which can feel bulky. Similarly to period underwear, blood on pads might feel more noticeable than internal options, which might increase dysphoria for some. You will need to buy pads over and over, so even they aren't that expensive to buy, the cost of buying them can add up. If your family buys the pads for you or you can get them at school for free then that isn't a big of a deal, but it does matter for some people.
Some trans people swear by menstrual cups because they're reusable and cost-effective. Once inserted correctly, they can be worn for up to 12 hours depending on flow, and the feeling of the blood can be less noticeable than pads or period underwear since it's not coming out. It can also be useful if you like swimming or have swimming classes, and/or if you're in a situation where you're stealth and have access to a private bathroom to wash the menstrual cup but don't feel like you can hide a whole package of pads in your stuff. But it can be hard to find the right size/model sometimes, so it can require multiple different brands and sizes to get the one that works best for you. Some people find the feeling of wearing one uncomfortable, have a hard time with the insertion, worry it'll affect their IUD, etc.
Tampons and menstrual discs have similar pros and cons as menstrual cups, although tampons are not reusable and some menstrual discs are. In all three cases, the process of insertion can be dysphoria-inducing for some trans individuals, but you also have the benefits of not having to feel the blood. You will also have more security to avoid leaks since you could choose to wear a tampon/menstrual cup/menstrual disc and then also wear a pad or menstrual underwear as backup.
After you've figured out what products work for you, I'd switch gears to the long game which is trying to stop your period in a healthy way. If you're out as trans, talk to your guardians and doctors about trying puberty blockers or using birth control to stop your period.
If you're not out as trans, you can still try convincing your parents to take you to the doctor to discuss the use of birth control in stopping your period without mentioning gender dysphoria:
You could say you have a heavy flow and starting birth control will make it lighter
It can help with anemia because you aren’t losing any iron through your period blood if you don’t get your period
You could say your friend/s have done it and it helped them
To stop period related cramping and pain
You could say you have gross period side-effects (like diarrhea and more farting) for the week of your period
It can make your periods more regular (or make it so you can control when it happens so you’re not caught off guard)
Helps with PMSing so you don’t have to deal with any of that
It’s more convenient and you don’t have to remember to change your pad/tampon
If you’re disabled, it can help save spoons and effort and make your week easier
You may not be able to change your pads regularly if you’re disabled and that’s kinda unsanitary and the pads can break so stopping your period can help with that type of stress
Save money on pads/tampons
Save time having to use pads/tampons and keep visiting the bathroom during class
It can help with migraines if you get headaches or migraines near your period
It can help with PCOS, PMDD, and endometriosis if you have any of those conditions
It might lower your risk of ovarian and endometrial cancer (but increase your risk of breast cancer) so that's something to discuss with a doctor based on your family history and personal risk factor
If you swim, it’s better to not have your period (And it’s inconvenient for athletes in general)
It can help regulate your mood (especially if you’re mentally ill and find mood fluctuations around your period hard to handle)
Why have a period when you can not have one? Some people feel there are no positive things about having a period because they feel it is inconvenient/[insert personal adjectives]
It’s pretty safe and many people do it, and if your doctor prescribes it and monitors you then there’s not a big risk in it
How do I talk about birth control with my dad?
Here’s a NY Times article called “For the Teen Who No Longer Wants a Period”, I’d start the conversation by sending them that link then if they ask more, give them the excuses above!
Finally, there are coping strategies that you can explore to manage the feelings of dysphoria that you may experience when you have your period-- this post has more info on that.
Followers, any advice for anon?

is this true you seem to know things https://www.tumblr.com/luminarai/725654142779097088/red-blood-cell-capacity-of-modern-menstrual
i mean.... yes, both the paper itself and a sci-comm article are linked....? the paper doesn't appear to be on scihub and i'm not at work to try and access the article itself, but i did read the summary and a couple of press releases
i'm not familiar with the literature to confirm if it's the first study that used human blood, but multiple press releases say it's industry standard to use saline (salt water) to test absorbency. i suspect that is because it's hard to get your hands on blood if you're a sanitary pad company (not that they couldn't do it or develop an equivalent-- just that storing blood without it clotting and the red tape and training to get it and use it are a lot more complicated that using saline). a few notes i think the tumblr screen caps are missing:
First, the point of the study seems to be testing newer period products like menstrual cups to help doctors take patient history, rather than proving a point about blood vs saline. Usually what tips a doctor off that a patient's period is too heavy is that the patient will say they're using some excessive amount of pads/tampons. Given lots of people use other things now, and pad/tampon companies are adding gel and shit to improve absorbency, doctors need to know what would count as "excessive." The conclusion on the summary is:
This study found considerable variability in red blood cell volume capacity of menstrual products. This emphasises the importance of asking individuals about the type of menstrual products they use and how they use them. Further understanding of capacity of newer menstrual products can help clinicians better quantify menstrual blood loss, identify individuals who may benefit from additional evaluation, and monitor treatment.
Secondly, the study used expired packed RBCs (red blood cells), which is NOT the same consistency as period blood, or even regular blood. Packed RBCs have had most of the blood plasma (the liquid part of blood) removed, so the cell are more concentrated. I think they also add stuff to prevent clotting, but the blood was old so who knows what was going on in it. Period blood has all sorts of other stuff in it besides just blood, and people with excessive bleeding may also have clots. That being said, in the theguardian article, the researcher they interviewed noted that packed RBCs are closer than saline.

Written for @grayfeline34211 for the prompt of period sex with my dilf au.
Summary: Alfred helps Ivan out with his period cramps through sex.
Rating: Explicit 18+
Content Warning: Blood (menstrual)
On a Saturday night, a man his age should've been at a bar or club, getting wasted on cheap booze and bedding the hottest person who buys him a drink. Instead, Ivan's at his neighbor's house, cuddled up to the older man and complaining for the millionth time about his period cramps.
While yes, he's been taking testosterone and birth control for a long time now, once in a blue moon he'd still have his period come in to ruin his week.
Originally, he was expecting to stay at home and go to sleep early. However, once Alfred heard of his predicament, he lured him over with the promise of expensive chocolates, a heating pad, and cuddles.
It worked, obviously.
Laying here with the man felt nice but, the stabbing pain in his uterus made him whine and squirm unpleasantly.
"You know, I have one more helpful solution." Alfred gave his shirtless shoulder a playful nip as his fingers ran circles around the slight chub of his stomach.
Ivan knew what he meant and couldn't help but blush and point out, "Most men do not like menstrual blood."
"Giving me little credit huh?" Alfred teased, hand drifting lower to cup his crotch through his shorts.
"Ngh, does it really not bother you?"
He gave a short laugh, "Vanya, I watched my child be birthed, this really ain't anything I'm not used to. I promise~"
How could he argue with that? Ivan had no personal qualms with sex on his period and if Alfred felt the same why not?
First though, the two needed to prepare. While Ivan went to the restroom to clean up a bit, Alfred went about setting up a towel on the bed and washing his hands for his partner's benefit.
As soon as the two were ready, they fell to the bed in a tangled mess of limbs, lips locking and bodies pressed tightly together. Pushing Ivan's shorts down, Alfred shoved his hand between the man's legs and, with the help of some lube, ran his fingers up and down his slit.
"Ahh..."
Up...and down, up...and down, up...and down...
The slick gliding of his hand made Ivan shiver and moan as a lovely warm sensation built up in his pelvis. Alfred continued to nip and suck at the skin of his neck, happy with each mark that lasted more than a few seconds.
Up and down, up and down, up and down...
Gripping the sheets below tightly, Ivan let slip whispered little puffs of "Fedya" and "please". His hips began to rise with each brush flicking against his clit, leaving him wanting more.
Upanddownupanddownupanddownupanddo-
"Ghh!"
With no warning, two fingers sunk down into his hole up to the second knuckle. A shuddering breath escaped his lips as he adjusted to the pressure inside.
Alfred looked down with a bit of amusement as his fingers came back out with slight splotches of red and the shine of lube. "God, you're so wet baby. I probably didn't even need the lubrication huh?"
A lovely shade of red blossomed across his face at the comment. 'Silly, stupid man.' He'd never say it out loud but hearing the older man's praise in and out of the bedroom always made his gut delightfully burn. The sudden onslaught of large fingers thrusting in and out turned Ivan into a whimpering mess. It felt so good, Christ, he was close and just needed that final push.
"Ah- oww oww stop! Wait...wait...a moment." Ivan, face scrunched, pulled his hips away and grabbed at the arm between his legs.
Concerned, Alfred removed his hand and wiped it clean on the towel as he asked a flurry of questions, "What happened? Are you ok? I'm sorry, I didn't push too hard did I?"
Ivan shook his head quickly, breathing deeply for a moment before some of the tension in his body released. "Cramp." Was the only word he needed to say for Alfred to understand the situation.
He released a sigh, placing a chaste kiss to his forehead, Alfred cooed, "Aww, my poor sweet boy~ C'mon, spread your legs for me." He shifted himself to lay between the young man's thighs and pulled his boxers down to free his erection, "I promise I'll make you feel much better snowflake."
In a flash, he rolled a condom on with plenty of lube and Ivan let out a gasp when he slowly pushed in a few inches. "Hah, I am not made of glass Fedya, don't be gentle with me." He grabbed at the man above to pull him down chest to chest, "Zasun' svoy chlen poglubzhe, ya khochu pochuvstvovat' eto zavtra~"
Alfred couldn't stifle the whimper that came out at hearing this type of talk from Ivan. He loved the rare moments when the young man spoke his native language around him and would do anything to listen to more.
When their hips met, Ivan wrapped his legs around Alfred's to keep him in place as he grinded back against his dick like a sex toy. He felt goosebumps when Alfred moaned right in his ear and rambled, "Good boy, uhn that's it. Just use me, use me to cum, I wanna feel you squeeze so tight."
The legs around him relaxed for a second and Alfred took that as an opportunity to pull out and slam back in. With the condom on, he couldn’t exactly feel everything he wished he could but something he definitely noticed was just how slick and warm everything felt. His breathing grew erratic and Alfred could feel fingers digging into his back. Just as it was starting to really get good for him, Ivan bit into his shoulder and came with a shudder.
Pleasure coursed through Ivan, prolonged by Alfred's continual thrusting until his cries died down to deep pants. As Ivan laid in blissful warmth, Alfred lifted himself up and watched his erection pull out splotched with blood.
He hadn't cum but that was low on his list of priorities with cleaning up.
After discarding his condom, Alfred went to the bathroom to start the shower and convince the tired Russian to get up too. The towel they used had some small drops of red but it was old so he didn't mind it just laying in the dirty laundry to be cleaned later.
"Hurry up Fedya or I will finish without you!" Ivan called sickly sweet.
With the unsaid promise of getting to cum, Alfred rushed into the shower to end their night with a little more fun.

Trying a menstrual disc for the first time and 24 hours in, I LOVE it. All the benefits of a menstrual cup (long wear time, keeps you dry unlike pads, nondrying unlike tampons, reusable) but waaayyyy easier to insert and remove. I managed to get it in correctly on the first try unlike the menstrual cup I used to use, which had a steep learning curve and I don't think I ever really got the hang of it. I've had NO LEAKS at all, even overnight, and my period is pretty heavy the first couple days.
My one big issue so far is that removing it is so so messy. I think I'll probably get a wee bit better at that with time but it's definitely not something I'd want to ever do in a public restroom if I can help it lol.
The only other thing is I've had some mild cramps on and off but I don't think that's related to the disc, I think it's just a normal period symptom since my flow is heavy.
Both the cup I used to use and the disc I'm using now are Diva brand cause that's the only one easily available at retailers near me. I'm so glad I bought one. Assuming this hasn't just been beginners luck then this is going to be my go-to menstrual product.

🥤Daily Detox Drink🥤
So I'm all for doing as much as you can that's beneficial for your well-being that isn't medicine. That said, homeopathy is not the answer to every medical condition and you should definitely consult your doctor before integrating homeopathic remedies to your health regimen. I am not a professional. Please, dear Lord, don't take my word as gospel.
Anyway, here's a budget friendly detox drink with a bunch of health benefits. You can find the ingredients at your local supermarket. Nothing fancy. This isn't really a cure for anything in particular, just a general keep-you-healthy beverage. 👍 Health benefits per ingredient are listed at the bottom (plus, if you're interested, the magickal properties as well).
Turmeric powder 15ml
Apple Cider Vinegar 30ml
Ginger (chopped) 1 tbsp
Black Pepper 1 tsp
Lemon Juice 60ml
Honey 30ml
Cinnamon (chopped or powdered) 10ml
6 cups WARM water (not boiling!)
Dump all the stuff in the warm water and mix it round. Store it in the fridge. This makes enough for a week's supply, ingested daily in the a.m.
Here's what it should look like once bottled. I tried to make it look palateable. I warn you now, it is not. It IS, however, good for you.
Tumblr media
These are some of the benefits when the ingredient is ingested:
Turmeric - boosts your metabolism, aids with symptoms of hayfever, depression, inflammation, high cholesterol and osteo-arthritis. Also helps with the build up of fat in the liver and mild itching. It has strong cleansing properties, along with encouraging prosperity, love, spiritual growth and wisdom.
Apple Cider Vinegar - helps regulate blood sugar, good for gut health (bloating & indigestion), helps with relaxing leg cramps, helps ease coughs & colds, aids with high cholesterol and increases energy levels. Strong cleansing and banishing properties, enhances romantic connections, encourages prosperity and intution.
Ginger - relieves nausea, vomiting and headaches, reduces inflammation, eases joint pain and symptoms of osteo- and rheumatoid arthirits, menstrual pain, risk of heart health and high cholesterol. Helps regulate blood sugar, boosts your immune system and gut health, and helps improve brain function. It's also said to have anti-cancer properties. Ginger encourages vitality, protection, love and romance, healing, prosperity and psychic awareness, and courage.
Black Pepper - good for gut health, eases symptoms of inflammation, depression, and helps regulate blood sugar levels. It also aids in brain function, collagen production, nutrient absorption and dental health. Similar to ginger, said to have anti-cancer properties. It encourages emotional strength and opens spiritual pathways; promotes healthy personal power, self worth, courage, stamina, and self control.
Lemon Juice - rich in vitamin C, anti-oxidants and citric acid (preventing kidney stones). Aids in hydration and digestion. Used to call in longevity, purification, unity, uplifting, clarity, friendship, happiness, rejuvenation, awareness, love, fidelity, new beginnings, cleansing, and protection.
Cinnamon - Packed with anti-oxidants. Helps reduce inflammation and protects against heart disease, as well as regulates blood sugar levels. It is said to aid in neuro-degeneration like in Parkinson's and Alzheimer's disease, have anti-cancer properties and aid in bacterial and fungal infections. Can be used to draw money, protection, stimulating psychic powers, success, lust, love and to raise vibrations.
Honey - Another anti-oxidant gold mine, helps regulate blood sugar and blood pressure levels. It's overall great for heart health and cholesterol and can soothe a cough and sore throat. Honey is symbolic of fertility, community, prosperity, diligence and work ethic.
To make a greater use of the esoteric properties, you can integrate this into a larger ritual/ spell.
Enjoy!

Just Drink
James peered wearily into the tea cup that had been offered to him, holding his palms open but not yet willing to accept it. It was a slightly murky, amber coloured liquid that if he was honest didn’t look very inviting. But the aroma that wafted up his nose was a blend of warmth, slight fruitiness, pepper and almost vanilla-like. It was not what he had expected when Lily had offered to make him a cup of tea while they completed Professor McGonagall’s latest dastardly transfiguration essay before bed. They’d secluded themselves off here in the shared head’s space after doing their usual night time castle patrol. Lights out wasn’t for another hour and he was sure to snap grumpily at the excited chattering first years if they tried to finish their in the Gryffindor common room.
“Do you want it or not Potter?” Lily asked him briskly.
“It’s got no milk in it” He replied.
“It’s cinnamon tea. It’s not supposed to” she said, thrusting the cup into his palms.
“Personally I usually go for an English Breakfast or Earl Grey,” James muttered, swirling the contents of his cup with one hand and offering another untrusting wiff up his nose. It reminded him of third year when he’d tried divination for the easy grade. Until him and the other marauders got kicked out for smashing or chipping too many precious cups and saucers.
“You’re the one who's been complaining about feeling stiff all week thanks to quidditch. It's good for you. Look here, read the packet if you don’t trust me.” Lily grabbed the small purple cardboard box off the kitchenette  bench and tossed it at him, which he caught swiftly in one hand despite the lacklustre throw.
He had to admit she was right, he had been complaining about feeling stiff and sore. But they had the first match of the year just a week away at the start of November and the team needed all the practice they could get. James scanned the box description briefly. ‘Made from the inner bark of the cinnamon tree, steeped in boiling water, Cinnamon tea is full of beneficial compounds that may offer various health benefits. These benefits include aiding weight loss, improving heart health, alleviating menstrual cramps, and reducing inflammation and blood sugar levels.’ He could see why girls from her dormitory were always coming to raid Lily’s private herbal tea stash from the head's kitchenette. She had an entire cabinet full of boxes of different fruity concoctions she brought from home or bought from Madam Puddifoot's tea shop in Hogsmeade.
“I’m not PMSing Evans. I just have a twinge in my neck, that's all.” James scoffed.
“Keep reading idiot” Lily scolded. “It’ll loosen you up”
‘Drinking Cinnamon tea at night before going to bed helps relax tired muscles, build immunity, boost metabolism and aid digestion - all this while you sleep peacefully!’ James read as he brought the cup to his lips and took a few cautious sips. The taste was slightly tangy but it wasn’t terrible.
“Could do with a bit of sugar” He muttered.
“I already put a little honey in it for sweetness, you don’t need anymore”
“You tellin’ me I’m sweet enough Evans?” James responded coyly.
“Just drink your tea you bellend”

moo i have an important question about period products. i was talking with my mom and my sister about state schools putting period products in mens bathrooms. i made a comment about how this is a good thing that’s happening , but it bothers me that this is what everyone is so focused on relating to period products. personally , i think we should be more focused on making these things cheaper or completely free (even though free anything is very unlikely in america) because they’re so expensive and homeless or poor women struggle to pay for them and have to just figure something out until it’s over. it’s so takes a huge toll and my family’s income because we are four women that get our period and we usually have really long ones too. i just think it is more important to give everyone easier access and have to be more prepared if you’re in a situation where you can’t get to a tampon. i’ve had a bunch of different times where i’ve been in public and not had any , and it sucks , but i just try to stay as prepared as possible , and it sucks that it’s difficult for trans men to get easier access to the period products they need , but it also sucks that homeless women and trans men can’t get those products at all.
this was kinda ranty but idk i just feel like this isn’t at all what people are focused on and it makes me mad. no one but the lower class cares about the lower class. and even if there are period products in the mens bathrooms , you’ll still have to fucking pay for them.
You're so right! Maybe I'm a dirty antifa snowflake but I think that everything that humans NEED should be free
Food, housing, healthcare, etc... it should all be free. (Or ya know, paid for by taxes rather than all that money going to the military/police/bailouts)
Establishments putting tampon/pad dispensers in the male bathrooms is a great first step! But they do absolutely need to be free
But I also think that society should move away from disposable sanitary products altogether. (Except for in the case of people who benefit more from the disposable stuff like disabled people who find the cleaning process of non-disposable sanitary products difficult, or the homeless who don't have access to running water or soap)
Period panties, reusable pads, menstrual cups, etc should replace most of the disposable stuff for so many reasons! They're better for the environment, they save you money because you're not buying them as often, they're literally better for your body and make your periods lighter and less painful.
I genuinely recommend to all people who menstruate look into alternative sanitary products and stop using all them nasty disposable ones. The earth and your body will thank you 🥰🌈

girl Sam would be the kind of person that, when asked in a public restroom if she has a tampon, would say no and then start listing the benefits of using menstrual cups instead

Cupping Therapy From Retrain Health
Tumblr media
Cupping therapy is a complementary therapy that relieves bodily ailments such as muscle aches, cold and flu symptoms, asthma, high blood pressure and menstrual pain, as well as relieving stress and improving overall wellbeing. At Retrain Health we offer cupping therapy customised to suit your individual needs.
Here in Australia any kind of therapy which involves cups also typically involves lots of tea and biscuits and good a chit-chat with friends. So, the idea of placing cups on our body to relieve bodily aches and pains may seem a bit strange at first. But after you've experienced the benefits of a cupping therapy, you'll understand why this complementary therapy is practised and praised around the world.
So, what is Cupping therapy and how does it work?
Cupping has been used in cultures around the world for centuries. This unique deep tissue massage treatment has its roots in ancient Greece where the holistic benefits of this non-invasive treatment eventually spread around the world.
There are many styles and techniques of cupping massage clinic Ballina, all of which use specially designed suction cups to draw energy, blood, and fluids to the surface in order to promote circulation, break up scar tissue and ease muscle spasms and tensions.
The heated cups can either be placed in one specific area on your body or a sliding technique may be used in conjunction with a massage oil. Alternatively, during "flash" cupping, a cup is repeatedly applied to one area for less than a second. The various cupping movements may be long with the intention of draining fluid, or quick and circular to stimulate stubborn knots and areas of rigid tissue.
The suction comes from a vacuum created by heating the air in the cup and placing the cup flush against the skin of the back, or whatever area of your body requires healing. The intensity of the treatment varies, and will be adjusted according to your comfort level.
How does a Cupping therapy feel during and after treatment?
Most people find cupping to be a relaxing and comfortable experience. The cupping technique has a sedating action on the nervous system, which often results in a state of deep calm. People often feel a warming sensation during the session and a pleasant tingling sensation long after the treatment has ended.
During the treatment the cupped areas on the skin will turn red, indicating that blood circulation has been brought to the surface, but this redness does not last long and the cupping technique causes no irritation to the skin.
People often use cupping therapy to relieve muscle spasms, back aches, common colds, flu like symptoms, coughs, asthma and pre-menstrual symptoms. Like massage, cupping can also be used to relieve stress, improve digestion, lower blood pressure, and improve sleep and restfulness.
Cupping therapy is often used in conjunction with other massage treatments. Here at Retrain Health we recommend rounding off your cupping treatment with a luxurious honey massage. The nutritional benefits of honey can be more easily absorbed into the skin after the circulation-boosting cupping technique and is a real treat for your skin!
