Summary of Singularity #1: Eternal Warfront Kanto

Location: Kanto Corruption Level: C+ Blessing: Blessing of Articuno

Synopsis: War torn Kanto has lost all colour, to the point if one sees colour they are deemed a rebel and to be executed by the desolate people. Disease has ravaged the entire region, causing its people to become wild and barbaric.

The land has become absolutely lawless and only the strong may survive; might is right among everyone and the weak only serve to strengthen the strong. The one formerly known as Champion Red has absolute command over Kanto, with Green as his second command.

Team Rocket has become the rebellious faction that constantly draws battle against Red and his circle of command, headed by a mysterious leader whose identity has been kept a secret.

The blessing of Articuno has been embedded within Red and in order to have a chance of even facing him, Yuri is required to team up with Team Rocket to draw him out to battle and defeat him.

Thoughts/Snippets/Story Beats/Concepts:

"Miss Blue ran away from the region, unable to handle what it had all become." / "She must have died though; you can't just leave Kanto." / "I'm certain he killed her. And to this day....her death still burns in my soul!"

A giant ring appears over Kanto and people start disappearing as a result, which prompts investigation.

A new executive by the name of Rider has taken over the organization; that person is actually Green, Red's right hand man. He bases his codename off of Archer's name and decided Rider was good, since he loved to ride Pokemon before everything went to Hell.

Green's motivations are to get revenge for Blue, but also to keep Red in check. In fact being one who can keep toe to toe with Red while also keeping things busy with Team Rocket is very important things don't get WORSE.

Green: "Heh. What is it about Viridian Gym Leaders coming to lead Team Rocket? Fucking old man conned me into taking this spot, but I guess...there's no better place for me to be, but here."

Pokerus epidemic happened and it was AWFUL.

The Kanto government turned the whole Pokemon League into a super soldier program, where it would churn out tremendously strong child soldiers in order to shore up their armies. Unfortunately, all enemy nations have already landed in Kanto and that is why everything is so war torn. Only enemy soldiers wear colours; it is better to wear greyed out or black clothes to blend in.

"This bright red R used to strike fear in the hearts of ordinary folk, but now...this R gives him hope. Crazy isn't it?" / "This R means rebellion. This R mean revolution. And above all...this R means Rocket and we are RELENTLESS."

"This world was created by the gifting of this blessing to the wrong recipient and once you remove it, it will collapse. The whole fabric of this reality will unravel and cease to exist. Knowing this, Moon Maiden, will you be cruel enough to end this world?" / "A world like this should not exist in the first place."

Kanto general plot wise is probably the least chaotic and by that I mean things are off the wall. It like. Seems normal at first. Just a normal Pokemon story. And then things slowly seem more and more off it’s eerie. Specifically around Team Rocket and Mewtwo, and of course timeline shenanigans that don’t get fully answered until Johto rolls around.

See, while it’s just a normal story about rivals on Red and Blue’s perspective, Leaf, feeling left out of the rivalry, gets to explore the region. And most of the worldbuilding gets told on her side while Red and Blue are out doing more interpersonal stuff that involves pokemon. Like Kanto is all about what makes Pokémon, well, Pokémon initially. Battling, reading, creating bones with your Pokémon and making memories.

Of course not everything is butterfree and rainbows, again, things do begin to spiral out of control that the main two are helpless to the lore.

Bill’s there and Mew has a bone to pick and Mewtwo sure is being made in the background. Giovanni is busy being Giovanni and eventually finds out things he shouldn’t and is working towards upsetting the universe’s less than delicate balance.

But while Leaf is running around in the background and trying to warn Red and Blue of the horrors she’s found out about, Red is too busy thinking about what his pikachu are that day and what remains of his collection, and Blue is too busy giving her death threats and asking which team she thinks kicks more ass (it’s Reds)

And things get BAD because of it as a result. Giovanni loses to Red in a raid and he’s fucking PISSED but it’s ok he has another plan (make a timeline where he wins. It’s a concept in kanto but timeline shenanigans don’t get fully fleshed out and explained until Johto). They gotta go bother articuno zapdos and moltres and they really don’t wanna help out but also the world is at the balance so I guess they can help mere mortals. Somewhere along the way Red gets fucked up but things will get worked out.

Because they all live by Blue’s words of wisdom: “Fuck it we ball”

As for Johto kids, I’ve talked at length what Ethan and Kris are about but what is going on up in Silver and Kris land?

Silver is probably the most canon compliant character. A guy who wants to destroy his shitty Dad’s shitty company. Except for the fact that he is basically siblings with Mewtwo.

Mewtwo was his dad’s creation, and while he already has reasons to hate his dad for everything he’s done, he also wants to get revenge for his sibling’s pain and suffering. He even lost his eye trying to rescue it.

He’s a lot more keen and stoic. Sure he may act like a cool guy despite being inherently clumsy but that’s just kind of how he’s grown to become. Silver is an alias after all, but it’s a name he’s chosen because it radiates the same energy as those kids who thwarted team rocket. He’s determined to become their ruin and send fear into their spine at the mention of his name.

He doesn’t kill. But he wants to be feared.

Along the he way he’ll start considering Ethan as his “partner”. Not a romantic one, but moreso in a shounen anime way. They butt heads a lot and silver especially acts very abrasive towards Ethan initially. But also they’ve taken down team rocket together multiple times and he knows he’s got his back. It’s a relationship he treasures a lot and something he’s never had, even with Mewtwo.

He and his friendship with Ethan and Lyra and Kris is the first form of love and compassion he’s felt, that again, isn’t from his sibling.

As for Lyra, she’s mostly oblivious to her place in the world as someone who took the place of another. She’s mostly kind of hanging around until she finds out. In which case everything gets ruined for her. She starts to question everything she knows and feels OVERWHELMING guilt for taking Kris’s place in the world. Like she cares A LOT. Not just about the situation but in general so it’s eating her from the inside out.

And when Kris has her penultimate villain minute, when she gets the opportunity to take her rightful place back, she doesn’t fight back because she thinks everything is her fault. She blames herself for being oblivious. When nothing is her fault and got caught in the crossfire. Even when

Especially since she shows nothing but love for life. She is the sun to everyone’s life while her doppelganger lives in her shadow. Her journey of self discovery ended with her

Even now she WANTS to be Kris’s friend. She thinks of her as a sister. She doesn’t know if she’s disillusioned with good memories that she doesn’t want to put in retrospect, or if everything they’ve been through together was genuine. But she still believes in wanting to be friends with her. Again, she loves the world so much.

And when Kris does ultimately get a body that isn’t Lyra’s, Lyra would be the first to offer her hand. She is the first to welcome Lyra back into life.

Ultimately her story is sort of Ophelia aligned; even if it doesn’t end in complete tragedy.

pokemon anime 2x12-13

what up gay nerds!!

so, i grouped these episodes together because they both take place on seafoam island, basically nothing happens in them, and articuno is nowhere to be found!! why even do seafoam island episodes and not show the bestest bird!!

(in fairness, apparently it was only called that in the english dub, and in the original japanese it's a totally original location. so i guess i'll give them a pass. THIS TIME.)

in "the evolution solution", everyone tries to figure out why slowpoke evolves by having a shellder bite its tail. the conclusion they come to is bascially "idk!" so, time well spent there. i do love that slowpoke's pokedex entry literally negs it for being no thoughts head empty though.

in "the pi-kahuna", ash tries to take up surfing and meets this guy who's essentially like a surfer with a dark past. but like, a surfing-related dark past. idk.

both episodes are pretty silly, pretty fillery, and not much to write home about, so i won't! again, though, "bad" episodes of the pokemon anime are pretty palatable all things considered. so while i'll give both episodes a c-rank, i'm starting to genuinely wonder if i'm ever gonna give one of these episodes a d-rank. i'm just not sure they can ever really hit that level of bad, y'know?

(Kaida's POV)

        Papa Raihan and I were in a new Place called Wyndon, buying me comfy clothes. I saw a cosy bow and ran towards it. "Kaida, you find something you like?" Makua asked, to which i nodded, showing him the bow. "Awe! it's your colour too dear" he said, lifting me up onto his shoulders as we went to check out. The workers knew i was a hybrid and made me feel as comfortable as i could be. After Papa payed and left the mall, he let me off his shoulders and I held his hand. "Wanna get changed into your new clothes? or do you want to meet my friends?" He asked, kneeling to my level. "C-change" I said, snuggling into his arms. He chuckled and took me to his stadium.

(Raihan's POV)

        I walked with Kaida back to the stadium to get dressed up in the new clothes i bought with them. "Makua, Who are your friends? Are they mean, or kind?" Their shy voice asked, a bit of worry in their voice. "Kaida, they're really sweet, some of them can be quiet but otherwise they will adore you" I replied, now opening the stadium's doors. "Go get dressed hon, you can keep the hoodie." I said, letting their hand go. After five minutes, they returned wearing the bow around their neck, a white sweatshirt, my hoodie, light blue jeans, black socks, and white tennis shoes. "I'm back, Makua" They exclaimed, hugging my leg. I was texting the gym leaders to meet in Turffield stadium along with leon, my dad Ryuko, Avery and Klara, hop, victor, and gloria when i looked down and saw their adorable face. "My friends will absolutely adore you, you are way too cute" I said, holding them in my arms(Note: Kaida's short for an Eleven year old). "Yay! Where are we gonna see them?" They asked, looking into my eyes. "Turffield, it's not far in flying taxi, i already called one" i said, ruffling their hair. "W-wheres turffield?" They asked, scared. "Don't worry, its not near your old fathers house, you'll be safe." I replied, now walking towards the flying taxi.

(Kaida's POV)

        Makua and I landed in yet another new place called Turffield, where there was a gym at the bottom of the hill. we both walked down and near the gym, walking in. "Hey guys!" Makua said, waving at the many people. "Awe, that child is just precious!" A man with pink hair and a farm hat said, crouching to meet my level. "Hi cute thing! My name's milo, im the gym leader here"the man said, making me comfortable. "H-hello....m-mr. Milo" I stuttered, letting him touch my feathers(Another note: Kaida lets people they are comfortable with touch her wings, but while one of their wings are in recovery, its mainly the right wing). "Kaida's never much of a talker when meeting new people, wow milo!" makua said, Milo smiling. "well i've rescued an injured articuno before, hence why its Bede's ace for his team" He said, staring at an older man who was dressed in a towel, a soft brown turtleneck, black jeans, and tennis shoes. The man came over, sat on his knees, fluffing my hair. "My name's kabu, child. You're perfect for a cute eleven year old." He said, hugging me. "Careful kabu, they were hurt at their old home...that's how i found them in the wild area" makua said, kabu letting me go. "May I ask how it happened, if it's not too personal is all dear" The male asked, looking into my eyes. "H-his name was Colress, i was born like this from makuahine's makuahine, which means mom's mom, my grandma. She was a hybrid of an articuno like me, and he killed mama in front of me, he stabbed my wing where there are bandages, i ran away after that, that's how makua found me" I said, hugging milo and kabu, who were shocked, along with the others, even makua. "H-he always called me a monster, even though i was born this way..." I added, now crying. "Shhh...Kaida, its ok!" I heard makua say, hugging me tight. "Rai's right, dear. Your perfect in your own way, no one can say otherwise, not even that idiot named Colress, we all know him alright, and he's not fit to be your father, raihan on the other hand, he's an amazing person" someone with a female voice said, sitting on her knees. another male came next to her, sitting on the soft grass. "My mom's right, Rai is a perfect fit for a father, not Colress" The person said, ruffling my hair. "Are you more calm now sweetie?" Papa said, looking into my tear stained eyes. "Mhm..." i nodded my head, now looking at the two new people. "Awe! Raihan shes so adorable!" the female said, snuggling me. "Mom be careful! their wing is injured" her son said, trying to grab me.

(Raihan POV)

        Gordie and Melony were fighting to hold kaida and i was laughing along with Milo. "Gordie! Melony! Stop fighting over them, let them choose who they want to see" Milo exclaimed as Kaida covered their ears. "Thank you. Kaida, choose between ms melony and mr gordie ok?" I said, Kaida looking at the two. "They seem more focused on Gordie, that's just so cute" Kabu said as Kaida crawled to Gordie, staring into his sapphire eyes. "We have the same eyes!" They said, giggling. "We do indeed, Kaida, my name is Gordie." He said, holding Kaida like they are his child. "Gordie they may be a bit drowsy, so if you feel them lay against you, let them, they haven't slept in a while i guarantee" I said, rubbing Kaida's back. "Ok raihan, can we let our ace pokemon out? I wanna see if they have a pokemon, if not, i've seen galarian Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres flying around as of lately, as if they're protecting Kaida" Gordie requested, to which i nodded. Milo's Eldegoss, Nessa's Drednaw, Kabu's Centiskorch, Opal's Alcremie, Bea's Machamp, Allister's Gengar, Melony's Lapras, Gordie's Coalossal, Piers's Obstagoon, my Duraludon, Leon's charizard, Avery's Galarian Slowking, and Klara's slowbro all came out, but no pokemon for Kaida. "Which one does Kaida like Raihan? So i can catch it" Gordie asked, grabbing a master ball. "Kaida? Which of the three birds do you like?" I whispered, they looked at me with a sleepy look. "M-Moltres is nice...B-but zapdos too...I can't decide between those two..."They whispered back, snuggling closer to gordie as they drifted off. "Well they like both moltres and zapdos, i believe i have extra master balls, here, take this one, that way you can get both" I repeated to gordie. He nodded, gently put Kaida in my arms, and walked to the wild area. "I think they're sleeping now." Piers said, sitting in front of me. "Yea, they may need this nap, i haven't seen them sleep since...well, ever!" Hop said. Kaida and hop had a big friendship when growing up was all i knew, he helped her throughout her old life in galar and alola, as he was there researching about different forms of pokemon. "It's been a while since ive seen them all cozy in soft clothes! that bow on their neck is from wooloo wool" He said, sitting next to milo and Piers. "Can i hold Kaida?" Piers asked, to which i nodded and handed them over.

I’m starting with a particular one purely because I absolutely hate it

I l o t h e Galarian Meowth and Perrseker. I hate them. I hate them both. -75/10

Alolan forms!

Rattata line: 10/10 simple, affective changes, but totem Raticate was such a big bitch for me to fight in sun and moon jccyuytcnio

Raichu: 12/10 I love alolan Raichu! I also adore the lore that they surf on their tail and that’s what the extra points are for-

Sandshrew line: 6/10? I like alolan Sandshrew more then normal Sandshrew, but I like normal Sandslash more then the alolan version

Diglett line: 10/10 diglett itself doesn’t have a huge change but DUGTRIO KILLS ME- the fucking wigggssss-

Meowth line: 10/10 again, simple effective changes, I like em

Geodude line: 3/10? I don’t really like base geodude and Gravler that much and the regional variant doesn’t make it better. I don’t mind Golem or Alolan Golem though

Grimer and Muk: 2/10 I don’t mind Grimer but Muk is just. So. Bright? So colorful? And the colors almost don’t work together but they do? I don’t know alolan Muk is funky in a bad way-

Exeggutor: 17/10 N E C K I love it here anamaakajsjs

Marowak: 10/10 some more simple, effective changes, love it

Galarian forms!

Ponyta and Rapidash: 10/10 I like my little pony. Leave me alone.

Farfetch’d: 10/10 simple, effective, changes. It’s a very cool bird man

Weezing: 10/10 it’s design makes me laugh and I like the smoke stack look of the hat

Mr.Mime: 5/10 I don’t even like Mr. Mime. It’s still creepy. But it does look…very different- Mr. Rime is the best one here

Corsola: 10/10 it makes me sad but it’s a very cool idea and design change

Zigzagoon line: 10/10 don’t mind these guys but I do really like obstagoon it’s funny to me-

Darumaka line: 3/10 I don’t like any of these guys but I really don’t like glarian Darmanitan‘s standard form at all

Yamask line: 8/10? Don’t mind the actual designs of Yamask and Runerigus but why is it so hard to get-

Stunfisk: 0/10 I don’t like these changes and I don’t know what they were going for if anything at all

Slowpoke line: 3/10 m e h the colors are sorta random? Slowking looks like it’s being consumed though I don’t like it-

Zapdos: 4/10 the black makes the orange and yellow really stark and harsh-

Moltres: 10/10 cool fire bird! Tbh I wish Yveltal was more like this-

Hisui forms!

Growlithe line: 10/10 FLUFFY FIRE BABYYY and fluffy storm cloud Arcanine-

Voltorb and Electrode: 10/10 I really love that their whole designs are now like references to the history of pokeballs and they way they were originally made vs the mass manufactured versions and the whole thing of handmade items with love and work put in vs the easy, cheaper alternative

Typhlosian: 17/10 IT LOOKS SO COOLLLL

Qwilfish: 10/10 cool simple change to the basic design! Overqwil also looks reallllyy cool!

Sneasel: 17/10 again I actually like Hisuian Sneasel much, much, more then normal Hisuian. It’s 100% the colors. I like sneasler alright

Samurott: 5/10? If you read through the starter post you know I don’t really like the normal form of this guy but I do like the Hisui form better- the black and red just go better with the blue to me. Plus the like…crooked horn is cool

Lilligant: 5/10 I don’t dislike the Hisui form I just ADORE the normal version it’s so fucking cute-

Basculin: 5/10? Pure neutrality here. Do like Basculegion though.

Zorua line: 12/10 I love base forms and making them WHITE and red I love it here-

Braviary: 5/10 Meh for both forms

Sliggoo line: 9/10 I love the idea of it having these like disk shells that became part of their bodies over time-

Avalugg: 3/10- the normal ones are a 0/10 but the three is for the idea of Avalugg specifically. Like it used to have rock legs but evolved to have a fully ice body-

Decidueye: 5/10 m e h. I like base Decidueye better

Taurus: 10/10 this idea is really cool and I don’t mind the designs

Oh wow. Guaranteed Sheer Cold is quite a bug. I remember when we had to use Mind Reader Articuno for that. I’m enjoying the game but it seems like everyday someone discovers a new bug and/or exploit.

Honestly, I think it’s so funny in a sad way. There’s other set ups ofc but the Sheer Cold one is especially horrible b/c that means a guaranteed knockout on an opposing Pokemon.

Like you can see that Game Freak had good ideas and love but this game was rushed for the holidays/yearly pokemon (and not even necessary considering PLA was just this year). Even when compared to the other Pokemon games.

About a month ago now, @alphakuriboh talked about doing a tier list of all Pokemon based on designs.  This was mostly because our taste, particularly in Gen 8 Pokemon, is very different.  So I’m doing this based on aesthetics, without necessarily considering attachment from various playthroughs, although there are some that definitely cannot be detangled for a general sense of affection.  Anyway, here’s my stance on Gen 1.  For anyone who wants to play along, here’s the tier list I used.

I included seven tiers, because there are a lot of Pokemon, and I felt like I needed the divisions for larger dexes.  E-tier is included to differentiate D-tier’s “It’s fine even though I don’t love it” and F-tier’s “I really do not like this” from the cluster that’s “I actually don’t really like the design, but it’s not, like, awful.”

Basically, anything below D is where I’m like “I do not like this,” and D is neutral.  Anything C or above should be considered something I like, anything A or above is generally a favorite, with S being the ones that I adore and think stand out as the best.  Because F-tier is like...an intense stance of “this thing looks awful to me,” not every generation will have something in F-tier, but it will be listed to maintain consistency.  I’ll be using “pokemon regional tier list” as the tag for all of these.

Cast judgment as you wish.

S: I love foxes, Articuno is best bird, Dragonair and Kadabra look better than their final evolutions fight me.

A: A-tier consistently finds itself home to the Pokemon I think look really cool, but aren’t necessarily my peak aesthetic, like Gyarados or the Nidos. It also houses Pokemon I think are legitimately adorable, like Ponyta or Dewgong, but again, aren’t necessarily hitting that peak.

B: B-tier wound up being kinda nebulous, in a sense of “I like the design well, and better than C, but not enough to be a favorite.”  So it gets things like Clefable and Wigglytuff, who are super cute, but aren’t really hitting the preferred aesthetic, as well as cool options like Machamp that I do enjoy, but aren’t quite as visually interesting as a Gyarados.

C: Pidgeot is probably the best representative of this tier.  I like it, but it’s like...a like in the sense that I’d run it but it wouldn’t be top pick, you know?

D: Charizard is the best representative.  Charizard’s design is fine.  But it’s only fine.  It’s a stock standard fire-breathing dragon design with like nothing interesting going on.  That’s really what D-tier is about.  I don’t feel like you’re doing anything too creative.  Or, if you’re trying to do something creative like Porygon or Ditto, it’s just not that interesting.

E: I’m gonna point to Primeape, in part to say “this doesn’t look great,” but also because I actually like Primeape and run it all the time in FRLG’s early game, but because this is about aesthetics, this is what happens.  Golbat’s another good example.  It doesn’t look great, but it’s not, like, a disaster.

F: This is where I take a hard stance of No Thanks.  Jynx and Mr. Mime are the only ones here.  I trust I don’t need to explain myself.
