is it weird to just answer the ask meme questions without actual asks? probably, but i want to yell about fandom shit rn so you can't stop me

A - Ships that you currently like a lot. its obvious that im in a grimm fixation rn, so i have to say nick/monroe as a romantic ship (or nick/monroe/rosalee), and the whole gang as a platonic relationship. For SGA, i'm always a mcshep fan but i honestly enjoy any pairing of AR1. Anyone that has followed me for an extended period of time knows that im a mcdanno (H50) and leverage ot3 truther as well.

B - A pairing–platonic, romantic or sexual–that you initially didn’t consider, but someone changed your mind. hmm, not sure? OH some folks doing the sga kinkmeme have mentioned john/cam and im very intrigued

C - A ship you have never liked and probably never will. Rodney/Jennifer :( I love Jennifer, but the writers consistently changed her characterization and that relationship felt forced and weird (SGA)

D - A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t. John/Elizabeth. I'm sorry! maybe its just because im gay af but to me their relationship felt like bffs, not romantic (SGA)

E - Have you added anything cracky/hilarious to your fandom? If so, what? I made that stargate cinnamon roll meme, if that counts

F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom? ~10 years

G - Have you ever had an OTP? If so, do you remember your first one? Who was in it? i'm a multishipper for sure, but one of the first ships i remember really clearly was eric/ryan from csi miami (circa age like 12)

I - Has Tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why? I dont know that it was entirely tumblr, but yeah, Voltron. The fandom was truly fucking awful

J - Name a fandom you didn’t think about until you saw it all over Tumblr. (You don’t have to care about it or follow it; it just has to be something that Tumblr made you aware of.) uhhhh, like every show tbh. 99% of the shows i watch came from tumblr or online friends

K - What character has your favorite development arc/the best development arc? Eliot Spencer (Leverage)

L - Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn’t one of your faves. hmm, I guess Adalind counts as a character who isnt one of my faves. She's a complex and interesting character, and its clear that a lot of her decisions come from a place of trauma. After having Diana it really shows that she does want to protect her and keep her safe (grimm)

M - Name a character that you’d like to have for a friend. Ronon (SGA), Hardison (Leverage), Teal'c (SG1), etc

N - Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom 1. men showing emotions!!! (grimm does this well, thankfully) 2. on a similar note: depicting how the shit these characters get up to is traumatizing and how that impacts them long term 3. literally any canon queer rep. can we PLEASE have a show like stargate or grimm where one of the characters (especially a man) is canonically queer? is that so hard???

O - Choose a song at random. Which ship or character does it remind you of? Forfeit by Rise Against always makes me think of ascended Daniel/Jack (SG1). Oh and ever since i saw a gifset with lyrics from it, Timberwolves at New Jersey by Taking Back Sunday makes me think of John (SGA)

P - Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas). one of these fuckin days i am going to write a baseball SGA AU

Q - A fandom you’ve abandoned and why. As previously mentioned: Voltron because the fan base was toxic and awful

R - Which friendship/platonic relationship is your favorite in fandom? all my favorite fandoms are themed around found family so this is so hard lmao. Nick & Hank (Grimm), Eliot & Harry (Leverage Redemption), Harry & Breanna (LR), Don & Charlie if brothers count (Numb3rs), etc

S - Show us an example of your personal headcanon anyone who reads my H50 fics knows that i will fuckin die on the hill that Danny has an anxiety disorder

T - Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending? besides anxious danny, I'd say John having ADHD (SGA), and Monroe being bi (Grimm) are two right off the top of my head

U - Three favorite characters from three different fandoms, and why they’re your favorites 1. Steve McGarrett (H50) - he's been through so much shit, but he's still so damn loyal and protective and kind. He's such a good dude who is just traumatized beyond belief. 2. Charlie Eppes (Numb3rs) - besides the fact that i am CONVINCED he has ADHD, he's just so fucking loving and passionate about his work and the people he loves. he balances out the hardness of Don and the gang with the sheer size of his heart 3. Eliot Spencer (Leverage) - basically the same reason as steve. I have a type.

V - Which character do you relate to most? this is tough. probably Daniel (SG1) - esp early seasons - because of similar worldviews and interests and personalities, and Danny (H50) because of similar personalities

W - A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom. MISCOMMUNICATION!! its so frustrating.

X - A trope which you are almost certain to love in any fandom. im a big ol softie so i love stuff like mutual pining, hurt/comfort, etc.

Y - What are your secondhand fandoms Good Omens is a big one rn lmao. I've read the book but haven't watched the show. Also, Daredevil probably. I watched at least the first season years ago, but haven't seen anything beyond that. I still enjoy seeing people's posts about it and i read fic sometimes

Z - Just ramble about something fan-related, go go go! im so cranky rn about the lack of depiction of trauma/mental illness/neurodivergence/etc in fandoms where its to be expected. like with Grimm rn, you give Nick PTSD and sensory enhancements but then suddenly forget about them?? that's not how that works! Or why is it always just hinted at that characters are ND? why is it so hard to just be like 'yeah no x has ADHD (or whatever)'? i want to be able to actually have complex/tough/interesting/etc protags that are ALSO neurodiverse. if we're all reading John as having ADHD (SGA) or Parker being autistic (leverage) anyways, why can't these things just be intentionally part of the character

More Harry/Danny Hogwarts AU

@alohasunshines the other day in the H50 ao3 rec blog there was a cute McDanno Au and it was on the mind when I realized it’s been a moment since I’ve sent you any headcanons lol xD BUT!! Now I have more ideas.

So Rachel was a pureblood who got into a relationship with Danny who was a Half-Blood. When they broke up, she later dated and got married to Stan, a muggle. To spite the family. BUT...Danny managed to keep Grace in Jersey for a long while and then she was accepted to Hogwarts since the Savages have a long history of going there. Danny transfers from the American Magical Government to the Ministry of Magic. He still gets a bit of a hard time but not as much, and really...Danny’s detective abilities and magic make him a force to be reckoned with.

Danny working hard with Auror Potter and Minister Granger is an awesome thought BUT Danny making a friendship with Mr. Weasley is just so freaking pure and amazing, I think this would be set during the books. Because I ALSO want Danny to be Harry Potter’s extra father figure, an adult they can fucking trust who doesn’t bullshit and deals with situations head-on while also being like, “He’s a fucking CHILD!?!?!” He uses some kick-ass connections and kinda adopts Harry so now Grace has a pseudo brother, she and Sophie going the golden trio...and god help anyone who tries to tell Danny to not stand in Voldy’s way in an attempt to get Potter. Because he will go all Molly Weasley.

Harry Langford’s interests are piqued and seeing Danny stand headstrong against magical racism and do what is noble and right no matter who thinks he’s an idiot or a hero kinda makes it hard NOT to fall for him. Especially...have you seen him with kids?

Harry Langford joins in Danny’s little crusade or protecting the children, not giving a damn about prophecies and ‘complicated loyalties’ or whatever...they eventually meet Remus and Sirius escapes and Danny goes out of his way to prove his innocence, that unlocks a whole can of worms in of itself...

Holy fuck, I think we need to send Danny to Hogwarts asap!!! xD

Steve & Danny & the dog park: a partial examination

Okay, so I’ve been trying to write McDanno fic for 10.04 and I’ve been failing because there is SO MUCH going on that I keep starting over in an attempt to zero in on The Most Important part, and I can’t decide what that is, so now I’m going to write a rambly post about the dog park scene instead.

Let’s take this pretty much line by line:

D: “Women, they love dogs. Right?” Yes, Danny. Yes, they do. You know who else loves dogs? You do. (Which is a fun fact Steve knew full well when he, a guy who has always vocally preferred cats, suddenly adopted a dog, which might be old news by now but does suddenly feel very relevant again.)

D, cont.: “They come over and they pet Eddie -” It’s fun to me that he’s saying “they” here, like that’s not exactly what he does. Random example: remember the start of 8.06? Danny shows up at Steve’s house as Steve is coming out of the water with Eddie after his swim, and Danny is trying to lure Steve inside for the Please Take Better Care Of Your Own Health intervention, but Steve doesn’t know that, and Danny pets Eddie and Steve makes Eddie shake his wet fur while standing next to Danny and then he just grins and for like, another minute doesn’t even think to ask what Danny is doing there in his garden except petting the dog, which Steve seems to accept as a perfectly plausible reason for Danny to come over.

D, cont.: “- ‘cause he’s a handsome guy, and they have no choice but to talk to you cause you’re- [brief hesitation]” I scream at this bit every time because the “you’re also a handsome guy” is almost VISIBLY on the tip of Danny’s tongue. SERIOUSLY.

D, cont.: “- standing right there with the dog -” Ah yes! Covered up that almost compliment so well, Danny. Brava.

D, cont.: “- and then you just- try real hard not to be yourself and maybe get a date.” Can you hear Danny whisper at himself “quick, Danny, think of another insult to keep your het cred!” Because I can. This also just makes me laugh because “try real hard not to be yourself” is so weak as in insult in the face of how much Danny’s actions over the past decade betray that he really, really does like Steve. And, I mean, there’s always the point to be made that if “try real hard not to be yourself” is a requirement to get any of these women to like Steve, that maybe Steve should ditch this whole plan and find himself someone who does like him for himself instead, and that person might be someone, oh, I don’t know, who would go so far as to drag Steve almost kicking and screaming to a dog park because he’s that invested in Steve’s love life. But oh, where would Steve find such a person? Other than less than a foot to his right, of course.

S: “And what are you doing here? I mean why a- Shouldn’t you be focusing on your own dating life?” This is Steve pretty much ignoring Danny’s entire speech to redirect focus away from himself, with all the subtlety of a car crash. And it makes a lot of sense that he’d go for Danny’s dating life - Danny is making a big deal out of Steve’s, after all - but hey, if you wanted, you could definitely read this as Steve jumping to these questions out of defense, yes, but also because he’s disproportionately invested in actually hearing the answers and letting Danny think he’s only asking about this because he doesn’t want to talk about his own dating life is safe in a very sneaky way. It’s taking cover by blending in with the crowd out in the open.

S, cont.: “Like, your ex-wife?” This specification was probably an attempt by scriptwriters to subtly give the audience a reminder of events from last season/tell them about it in case they missed it, but in-universe it ends up as this hilarious addendum by Steve that seems completely unnecessary, but he gives it anyway, like he’s wondering whether his oh-so-subtle jabs were obvious enough yet and then mentally decides that he better point out exactly who he means. He stops just shy of googling a picture of Rachel to remind Danny who she is (which, historically, could very well be necessary when it comes to Danny remembering girlfriends). (Alternately, the fact that Steve explicitly states that he’s talking about Danny’s ex-wife could also be taken to mean that at this point, that’s not obvious. Steve’s been dating multiple women, and we haven’t really heard anything about Rachel at all since the s9 finale, in which Danny only said that they’d been on a holiday together, not that they were officially definitely totally back together (yet). You could, very easily, take “like, your ex-wife?” as A) Steve fishing for answers because he doesn’t have them and/or B) a sign that Danny+Rachel is still an open-ended question.)

D: “O- Okay.” Danny has this tiny, offended stutter here that’s very Danny of him and I love it. He’s also totally ignoring Steve’s attempts at fishing and not saying a word about Rachel, which could be taken as suspect. Either way, they both keep trying to change the subject and this is not so much a conversation as both of them taking turns to go “let’s talk about my thing now (which is actually your thing, because it’s your dating life, let’s talk about your dating life, not mine)” without really responding to the other person.

D, cont.: “I’m here for two reasons. One, because you are easily distracted -” Here, the camera is briefly on Steve who is paying full attention to Danny, not any of the hundreds of other things going on around them in the park, which makes Danny’s claim so beautifully ridiculous. Steve also hasn’t shown any signs of actually being distracted so far, only an extreme unwillingness to enter in this endeavor in the first place - and even then, he is going along with all of this, letting Danny drag him places to meet women (which could mean that he does want to date but has some mental barriers and Danny pushing him is mostly good, OR it could mean he just wants to hang out with Danny more than he wants to be left alone when it comes to dating).

D, cont.: “- and two, because, I wanna take credit when this thing goes down- right, and you get a date. I wanna take credit.” Okay, so, that sounds like a pretty weak excuse to me. He wants to take credit for Steve’s succesful dating life? Is that’s why he was calling and texting Steve during a date that he set Steve up on, which already comfortably ensures he’d have more than enough grounds to claim that credit? I know this is a very wide open door in fandom, but free suggestion, Danny: ask Steve out. You’ll be able to take full, 100% credit for Steve’s dating life, and you won’t have to call him during dates to check up on him because you’ll have a live feed right across the table, and you can pet Eddie as much as you like and insult Steve even more, if that’s what you want, and you won’t have to strain something nudging and winking at Steve whenever there’s a woman in your general vicinity while Steve strains something trying to act like this is totally not awkward for him.

After this, Steve grumble-mumbles a little, Danny starts instructing him to throw the ball, Danny does it himself, and Eddie ends up needing stitches. Somewhere in the middle there’s that amazing bit where Danny is talking up a woman walking her dog and Steve makes appreciative noises and when he finally opens his mouth, he says her dog is beautiful, which just, god, that’s such a mood.

I think this is about where I’m leaving it, but a few thoughts about Steve and Danny’s phone call a little while later, when Danny is at the office and Steve is outside the vet’s place: I really like that when Danny says the vet likes Steve, Steve says “she’s at work! she’s being professional!” because even though it’s probably mostly Steve making excuses so he won’t have to step out of his comfort zone, it’s also A VERY GOOD POINT. Generally, hitting on people while they’re at work and are somewhat obligated to be nice to you is not the best of ideas.

ALSO. Actually the last point this time: perhaps my favorite bit of this entire episode was when Steve, during above phone call, went, “Me, personally, I like to meet someone and, and organically come to those feelings between me and another person. You understand that?” Now, OKAY. Firstly, I just think that’s really sweet. Secondly, if we assume this is true for how Steve approaches all relationships, including friendships, I think the fact that he basically lays eyes on Danny once and just kidnaps him into staying is hilarious, because it means Danny pointed a gun at Steve one (1) time and for Steve that was it, boom, organic feelings succesfully developed in the span of perhaps thirty seconds, and oh my god does that say a lot about Steve as a person and his relationship with Danny.

And last but not least, thirdly, Steve says he likes to come to those feelings organically “between me and another person”, which isn’t that weird - women are people, so this is a perfectly acceptable way for a straight guy to talk - but I mean, to do some more open door kicking, hey, men are people too! The phrasing here is gender neutral and that doesn’t prove anything, but it’s one of those things that really conspicuously doesn’t exclude any possibilities, either. It’s headcanon heaven (as, honestly, is this whole subplot, imho), and I appreciate that very much.

I love your mcdanno headcanons. I like to headcanon Lou only finding in season 6 that mcdanno weren't really toguether. And Danny not realizing people crush on him is precious (Chin had one, fight me). Can you imagine the new baby seal interactions with Danny?

Yes, I love Lou so much! I also think that he to this day isn’t entirly sure if they’re aren’t lying about this whole “not together” thing. I’m also pretty sure Tani has no idea that they’re not together, LIKE DANNY PLEASE. He drove his ass to her house and all he talk about was Steve and how great he is. Like I wouldn’t be suprised if Tani would take them as an item. I must add, I love that Danny and Tani are getting along so well, it always felt like everybody was the most connected with Steve, but it’s nice to see more Danny’s interactions

Also this season already had so much mcdanno stuff, like what the hell. I’m happy and salty about it, cause it’s great, but its just queerbaiting and they don’t have the balls to make it right

Domestic McDanno - Sunday at the beach.

“Don’t worry, you still looked handsome” Steve quickly said, smiling at his phone there when Danny finished putting away his surfboard and entered the car.

“Oh, I was not worried about it”, the blond adjusted the towel he was sitting on before getting his attention back to Steve. “Good. Because you, Sir, look very handsome, specially when surfing on those waves”.

“I had waves today ‘cause someone didn’t hog them this time”, Danny replied with a smile, both men knowing exactly what that was about.

“Okay. I admit I did that once. But you gotta move on, buddy”. Steve started the engine to drive them home.

Danny chuckled, checking his own phone while listening to his boyfriend lie, or like Steve sometimes would say: ‘‘having a conflict of opinions”.

“Sure, Babe. Sure. Now, let’s talk about lunch, and since today I was blessed to have waves for myself”, Danny lifted both his eyebrows and nodded his head into Steve’s direction, getting an eye roll from the SEAL, “I think some burgers would be nice”.

“Agree. Do you want to buy them or you want me to make them, I know we have the ingredients at home”, Steve already making a mental check list of the items he’s gonna need and was sure to have it all. “Let’s go home then, ‘cause I love surfing but I want a shower now. Too much sand and salty water”. Danny scratched his head, picking some grains of sand on his hair with his nails.

“I uh...can help with that too”. Steve said, not moving his sight from the road. “That’s tempting, McGarrett, but we both know that if we go to that shower together, the lunch is gonna take an extra hour to be done”, Danny pointed out, because experience taught them that, several times...

“...Delivery?”, Steve spoke after a few seconds, throwing that ball on Danny’s court. “Sure, why not?”, and the smile on Danny’s face met a (patented) smirk on the SEAL’s face.

Another great Sunday for them.
