Targaryen Kings Statues Concept Art Released by Qingling Zhang
I don’t have the time to do a proper “art in HotD” writeup for these but I just wanted to add them to the posts because I’m absolutely thrilled to see the Great Hall so well lit and with this level of detail. I hope that in the next seasons this amazing set gets the attention it deserves because the craftsmanship and attention to detail that has been poured into it deserves to be highlighted -- I’m not going to lie, the statues looked a lot more nondescript in the show, enough that I assumed they were meant to be generic pre-Conquest ancestors, while in fact they are THEE Targ kings from Aegon I to Jaehaerys (so actually covering the dynasty up until very recent times), each with his own defining characteristics. Some stray observations:
I especially love how Maegor has been designed as a hooded, faceless figure, a way to acknowledge his place in the dynasty (although he’s the only one who doesn’t display the Targaryen sigil) but also erase his features because of his infamy, and a blatant callback to the iconography of the Stranger
Will the addition of other kings be featured in future episodes? in F&B, Aegon II commissions colossal statues of Aemond and Daeron to be built in King’s Landing, and this might be a way to integrate that tidbit from the book into the show.
These well lit bts shots show a pretty nice glimpse of the lower part of the columns, though to be honest I’m still a bit at loss on what *exactly* they represent besides “battle scenes with dragons”. The only impression I get is that they look kind of samey, so they probably all represent the same event, or series of events, regardless of the king covering the upper half of the column.
The wedding table also seems to be decorated with a bas relief roughly in the same style as the columns, depicting a chariot race (it’s hard to make out the detail but I doubt it’s a battle as a martial theme doesn’t feel fitting for a wedding, especially not one arranged by decidedly nonmartial Viserys)
(more art in hotd) - (more art in westeros)

It’s been a hot second since I’ve read Euripides’ Medea so bear with me, but to all the people comparing Medea to Alicent, thanks I am going feral.
Anyway, here is a ramble:
(Spoilers for HOTD/Fire and Blood and I guess also Medea)
It’s the fact that Alicent’s Medea by accident. It’s the fact that she’s putting the dagger to her children’s throats, however unwillingly (however unknowingly).
All to get back at Jason, but who is Jason?
Is Jason Viserys?
Is Jason the political hierarchy/patriarchy/duty?
Is Jason Rhaenyra?
The things that she agreed to support (and love) above even her own family. The things that she believed should protect and stay true to her and end up betraying her.
Jason who cannot see from Medea’s perspective and cannot understand how Medea sees what he is doing as a betrayal.
How Medea may be pitied, but no one wants her to act out. No one wants her to resist like she has been. That Jason and Creon see her pain and hurt as unreasonable.
It is all so Alicent.
The way that Medea is a foreigner with no allies save Aegeus in the same way that Alicent is friendless in King’s Landing for so long.
The way that Medea cannot go home after marrying Jason, and Alicent cannot go home after marrying Viserys because that is how her marriage works. But also Medea, fearing the wrath of a father. Alicent, being partially the reason her own father is not at her side.
It’s the fact that those who know how the Dance ends know that Alicent will fail to be Medea.
Because Medea may not have been half-god, but she had the blood of gods and that allowed her to flee from Jason’s grasp, however much of her still remained after she murdered her children, on a chariot pulled by dragons.  That’s not possible for Alicent who will become the Queen in Chains.
Medea’s ending feels very Targaryen, but as Alicent accepts when she dons that green dress, she will never be a Targaryen.

What was your reaction to seeing Chariot and Hangedman returned in scarlet dawn? (random question)
For context I only got into HoTD in 2019 and while my first introduction was playing the first game up to half of chapter 2 most of my info came from play throughs on yt and looking at the wiki + tv tropes,,,
I found it interesting but it lacked any nostalgia factor for me bc I am still relatively new to the scene,, but I do like the new designs and feel that they’ve become more intimidating
There is still the downside of the scripted fights in SD but I feel these two have a decent enough challenge and the sequence is interesting enough to make it feel less so.

man why did i phrase point two like that it’s not like you people are worried about spoilers from an x years old arcade game
All the bosses are named after the Major Arcana. There’s only so much Major Arcana to go around. If you go and put too many of them in one game you’re ensuring that sometime in the future you’re gonna have too few bosses or you’re gonna need to bring back some old faces
And I think in this case specifically I’d feel really, really gutted if the bosses got completely reworked. I loved how they used Hangedman and Chariot in SD because Hangedman’s fight got dragged into something much longer and more cinematic, while Chariot’s original fight just kinda. sucked. and was made substantially better. But we can’t just keep going bigger and better because then that’ll get exhausting - there is a difference between “game where a few bosses are fun shootyfests and a select few are ultimate showdowns with returning foes for maximum drama” and. yknow. too much of the latter. which still COULD be a fine game, and probably is for a lot of games, but it wouldn’t feel like a HotD game, yknow
I take my g sufferings very seriously in this house and I have my worries. But fuckit, new HotD means fanart and etsy pins or whatever

If the creatures from all the main hotd games were in one room how would it end
Hm. Badly!
I mean for starters they’d all barely fit in one together lol.
But I feel like they’d piss each other off. I think (mainly lesser) creatures don’t go out of their way to attack one another , but will if they feel threatened somehow, and some are more territorial and I think they’d all feel on edge crammed in together like that. the smarter ones would probably argue bc well, look at them. I’ve always assumed Hangedman (and Chariot?) may have some… choice words for Magician over Curien’s death. And since Curien is the wheel of fate now… that’s a family reunion I’d rather watch from afar.
I also hc that Strength and Zeal Fucking Hate Eachother. Hell i bet Strength hates most people.
So between the story-tall creatures and elemental powerhouses (and the creatures that are BOTH) all in one place, the unfolding Curien Family Drama (tm), the outright animals, Strength and many many other things to consider…
If an all out Brawl doesn’t unfold, then they’re breaking free and sending quite a lot of people to their grave.
And Zeal might just be ground into a fine dust, if he’s not crushed he’ll get his shit kicked in.

Are their any chances that curien cloned Chariot and Hangedman since you fight them twice in hotd (since well when you fight Chariot he was reduced to bone and Hangedman well idk about that) but what's your thoughts on that
I think that’s probably the case, backup bodies in case of an emergency. If not physical bodies, then genomes up on speed dial. We see the normal creatures practically mass produced as of 2, Judgment Heirophant and Tower also return, and Magcian gets clones in 4 Special’s bad ending, so I don’t think it’s far fetched.
The other option would be the bioreactor having an ultra-healing factor, but I think the cloning makes more sense?
I believe that many bosses have some sort of backup clone that’s basically an empty shell activated upon death, and that all of them have some genetic material stored away so they can be easily made again if they’re killed off and there’s no salvageable tissue or fluid to retrieve.
And it seems this is all done without any lapse in memory if Magician comes back easily enough. But you do have to wonder if it’s really the same person or just an empty shell given the same memories. I guess that case goes for cloning in general. I bet this isn’t lost on those who are sapient, though…
On a less speculative, fun note…It’s a shame there’s not much information elaborating on the process, at least anything to my knowledge that’s easy for fans to access. I miss all the old fun manuals and stuff :( I get why it’s not much of a thing now but for a game that’s added some decent amount of story I wish the devs knew we’d all be pretty invested…

Just wanna say that your headcanons for hotd is like *Chef’s kiss* exquisite. Never thought I’d get this invested about the characters and enemies from some old arcade series that’s mostly light on story and known for cheese. Especially the bosses. Love the depictions from other’s people artwork and yours. (PS Chariot is hot af)
Thank you so much!! 😊
And very sorry for the late reply!! Thought I posted this but ig not >~<

House of The Dead Headcanons: Bosses (Part 1)
Headcanons for the bosses of the first game, not counting Magician cause he’ll get his own post. This will not cover Chariot and Hangedman in Scarlet Dawn.
general warning for possible disturbing/upsetting content, under the cut due to length
Chariot
He/they/it - no preference for one set over the others. They don’t care that much honestly. They just exist. Whatever people refer to them as works, they’ve heard all three.
It’s sapient but like. They don’t care about human standards and don’t act quite human either.
Only really driven by their instincts and what they’re supposed to do. Not much personality or character.
Obligate carnivore
Fairly persistent, analytical as well. Almost like a robot.
It experiences the same hard-wired hate towards humans, seeing them as a food source and pest to be eradicated. It does not have any deeper reason or hatred and it realizes that. It doesn’t care. It has to eat and it wants to do its job.
It tends to get really rough/brutal with how it deals with them.
It’s easy to get on his nerves, he’s somewhat on the hot headed side.
And he can get pretty fucking angry.
That being said he’s more patient with the other creatures, at least by a little. Hangedman likes to test this patience.
Chariot did not meet Magician but they were aware of his existence. They knew they had to protect the dormant creature and did so by guarding the mansion, but they actually felt apprehensive towards him.
Can talk, but does not really do so. It is not always easy for him to. Has a lot of trouble forming sentences and conveying complex ideas.
So when he does speak it’s in bits in pieces - subjects or actions without any words connecting them, in a flatter tone
Gets sick somewhat easily. it’s not uncommon for him to become ill.
It can get pretty disoriented when stressed or hurt/sick.
So basically it gets sick rather often and spends these bouts of illness wishing it was dead because it’s tired of feeling nauseous and Out Of It.
This changes w/ his resurrection though.
Not necessarily the most graceful or level-headed either
Acts like he is stable and has everything under control, but that is anything but the truth.
Protective and a bit controlling.
Hangedman
He/him
Jackass™
Not sympathetic towards humans, hates a good deal of them. He’s convinced that a lot of humans are scum and sees them more as dolled up bloodbags most of the time.
Obligate carnivore/Sanguivore. Can eat meat occasionally but prefers blood. Cannot stomach plant material
He gets very hungry and has to tend to the Devilons, and the need to target humans is instinct for him like it is with most creatures, but he also uses destruction + causing pain as an outlet.
Doesn’t get along with some of the other creatures as well. Just very disagreeable and hard to approach.
Not always the best with personal space, tends to get way too close.
Hangedman is very clever and smart, but does not always have the motivation he needs to pursue anything that puts his knowledge to good use. He does like reading, though. Chances are, he’s read most of the books in the mansion.
Same goes for emotional intelligence - he has the capacity for deeper emotional thinking and such but lacks the ability to form healthy, meaningful connections with anyone other than the select few he knows and is awful at introspection.
But yeah this guy is. actually smart. Has to get better at applying himself but in general he has his wits about him and can hold conversations and stuff.
Kind of a pessimist and kind of smug - patronizing and mocking towards people he dislikes.
He either obsesses over or has no interest in things, barely any in between.
Very fond of the concept of vampires.
He is actually fairly close to Chariot, the two have a rivalry, perhaps a friendship. How Hangedman - an annoying, petty bastard- managed to form a bond with the robotic yet irritable Chariot is anyone’s guess.
His only other “friends” would be the Devilons/bats. They seem to understand him somewhat, but there’s not much more except for the fact that they depend on him a lot. Hangedman, however, cares for them greatly even when he does not really show it.
Very good sense of hearing, almost too good. He’s rather sensitive to sound and sometimes it can get overwhelming.
He would keep Curien company sometimes, and knows a bit more about the doctor because of it. He learned about Daniel, Curien talked about him a lot before he completely snapped. He'd try to comfort Curien whenever he was upset over Daniel, but there wasn’t much he could do. He was actually pretty uncomfortable for him.
Somewhat apathetic, and very detached. However he can be kind if he actually stops to consider others. Curien was the only person who really saw this side to him, though, and even then not to the full extent.
Honestly the way he feels and expresses empathy and his emotions in general is just... weird and very dysregulated. He’s aware of it and concerned, he doesn’t know how to deal with it.
Does not get upset often- or at least he’s alright at hiding it - but when he is angered or afraid he can become frantic and irrational, even violent.
Obsessive in general - hard time letting things go, forms attachments to certain things and people and the like...
This happened with Sophie, who oversaw most of his development and life in the mansion. Meanwhile, she didn’t want anything to do with him because she couldn’t look at him without thinking about how he used to be human, she felt guilty and disgusted at Curien and herself - and Hangedman for being the product of such horrible experiments. This led to her not really giving Hangedman the sort of attention he wanted, he wanted her attention and care but didn’t get it.
He didn’t pull any of that “if I can’t have you no one can” shit his obsession just turned from “please pay attention to me” from “ok fucking die”
He needs a lot of enrichment in order to stay happy. He’s allowed to fly around the mansion (outside and some inside areas), interact w/ researchers - mostly those assigned to take care of him and has access to some books and other media with Curien’s permission.
Hangedman looked forward to meeting Magician, but he was a bit nervous.
Nocturnal, and has more animalistic instincts and habits due to bat DNA. This animal DNA along with other existing conditions and being raised by Curien has resulted in him being kind of a wild card. As of his resurrection, he’s only become more volatile.
Hermit
??? Spider
Solitary creature. Not affectionate but not necessarily aggressive besides towards humans.
Facultative carnivore - prefers and gets most nutrition from meat but it can stomach non animal material and get some nutrition from that.
Chariot and Hangedman are both fond of Hermit, and Hermit is partial towards them both. It’s fairly friendly towards them.
More friendly with Curien though.
The team pet, kind of a little brother of sorts. Though team pet and little brother are practically synonyms
Stealthy, persistent
I do not have much else about this guy. Hermit is Hermit. That’s all.

I’m not sure if I got this right cause I used google translate (which means all the translations I got were half accurate half messed up) but I used the app to scan some images on the wiki and
You know those little tendril things chariot has in the first game? Yeah he might use that to eat people.
Tumblr media
This isn’t the most accurate translation but it’s the best I can provide. This is from page 90 of the Official guide, the image can be found on the wiki page. If anyone can get a clearer/more direct translation then feel free to do so.

Reupload from a while back bc the og post wasn’t working right :(
Based on a previously posted headcanon about Hangedman laughing when he’s nervous/stressed.
Transcript + Notes under the cut!
Hangedman: *nervous laughter*
Moon: What’s up with him?
Chariot: Oh, he’s just a bit nervous.
I have some more sketches and headcanons to post, but I’ll wait a little while for those.
