CHARLES ITALIAN INTERVIEW JUST MADE ME CRY😭
He just spent the first half a little down complaining about the car and that they have to work with a sad face and then Mara asked “are you a little down/without hope? (Demoralizzato)”
AND CHARLES ANSWERED “Demoralized? ZERO. Thanks for the question I wanted to say that i’ve not lost the hope” WITH A BIG SMILE ❤️

(Ice cream AU) During the drivers' parade Max catches a glimpse of Charles in the stands and gets so nervous for the race that he promptly DNFs in the first lap, breaking his usual impressive winning streak
Charles, for his part, is just happy that Ferrari won 1-2
alternatively: charles gets invited to the rbr garage, after declining it multiple times because he cannot say yes to a red bull garage appearance as #1 tifoso. that's just not it.
but when he gets offered a paddock pass to monza, he cannot say no. he bullies max the entire time while he's in his garage just to humble him and remind him he's there just to cheer on ferrari (max's mechanics are like "at this point you gotta have humiliation kink, man")
cue the race and its a max x ferrari driver battle and charles accidentally gets too invested and the f1tv broadcast catches charles smiling when max overtook the said ferrari driver and they cut to his reaction.
and max is NOT letting him live this down. charles keeps denying that he smiled at Him and His overtake.

Sunset Lap vs. Storm Lap: A Dichotomy Between Two Drivers
Something that's been running in my mind a lot is how we view drivers and events in Formula 1. There are a few ways we can go about it, with the two main ones being the imagery and the stats.
Imagery, in my opinion, is so important in Formula 1. In a sport where things change every year and no true stats or comparisons across teams/eras exist, it is the imagery that people remember.
Rubens Barrichello and Michael Schumacher crossing the finish line just 0.011 seconds apart in Indianapolis 2002. Sebastian Vettel on his knees and bowing to his Red Bull after he won the World Championship. Lewis Hamilton with the Brazilian flag wrapped around him. Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso, and Sebastian Vettel doing donuts together at the end of the 2018 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The two Ferraris driving past a broken-down Red Bull.
The imagery is important in not only what we remember, but also in how we think of drivers.
Images of Charles Leclerc's 2022 Austin sunset lap and Max Verstappen's 2023 Brazil storm lap will go down as iconic Formula 1 images.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But, the images can also play into how we perceive the two drivers. Sunset vs Storm. Leclerc vs Verstappen. Ferrari vs Red Bull.
There is a visible dichotomy between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen through the images of their laps.
Sunsets hold many meanings across literature, cultures, and art. In most cases, the sunset represents the completion of a cycle. The setting sun brings an end to a day. Often times it is attributed to the ending of something - life, laws, a journey, etc.
But other than that sunsets are also a thing of beauty. A moment in time when a golden shine settles over the earth and everything is bathed in that glow. It is the boundary between the bright skies of the day and the darkness of night. They also represent the beauty of the world.
Storms, just like sunsets, can mean many things based on how you would like to interpret them. Oftentimes, the connection to storms isn't very pleasant. Filled with thoughts of fear and impending doom. In gothic literature, storms are often seen as harbingers of doom. Foreshadowing the inevitable.
Where sunsets bathe everything in a fleeting, golden light; storms bathe everything in a lasting darkness. A destruction of nature as rain pelts everything in sight. While storms are typically destructive, they have an ability to cleanse
So how can this be used to explain the dichotomy in Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen?
The imagery in these laps exemplify how we as fans see the two drivers.
On one hand, we have Charles: il predestinato, il principe, the sun of Maranello. And on the other hand, we have Max: mad Max, the Dutch Lion, Super Max.
That's two very different types of nicknames/monikers that follow these drivers who grew up racing together.
Sunsets align with the image that has been created around Charles Leclerc. Beautiful, golden, and an expected end to the championship drought at Ferrari. He is the sun of Maranello that shines over the Scuderia. The predestined prince that will bring back glory to Maranello. Born in Monaco, raised in Maranello, Charles Leclerc is who the Tifosi have set their hopes on. Chanting "Oh Leclerc portaci il mondiale" (oh Leclerc bring up the world championship." There is no doubt that the kid who grew up with Ferrari backing, the first FDA driver to make it to Ferrari, will be the one to end the years-long drought that Ferrari has faced. When Charles did his sunset lap, we saw how he will be remembered by Ferrari and the Tifosi no matter how his career progresses, a golden moment in time. A driver who gave his all to the Scuderia and bled rosso corsa, a tifoso at heart. And when Charles Leclerc wins a championship, then he'll be the sun setting on a championship drought that has lasted well over a decade now.
Whereas, the storm is the perfect imagery for Max Verstappen and how he's made his mark on the sport. Destructive, a sign of doom, fear, inevitability, and change. Max Verstappen came into the sport so young and so many questioned if he should even have his seat. And in those early days, he made a name for himself. He was bold in the maneuvers he made, reckless some might even say. Mad Max, as said by so many of the 2010s drivers. He had Nico Rosberg terrified. Given a good car that didn't have reliability issues, everyone knew what Max Verstappen could do and the potential he held to bring Red Bull the championship. And he did do that, ending the Mercedes/Lewis dominance and starting the Red Bull/Max dominance. In 2023, as Max did a qualifying lap as a storm brew, shrouding the track in darkness, we saw a hint of how Max will be remembered. The inevitability, the man who took Formula 1 by storm and made his mark.
So imagery is very important in how we think of the drivers and the narratives that follow them. Should there be documentaries made of these drivers in years to come, it will be images like these that will be used to show who they were as drivers.

Charles Leclerc just in general is my Roman Empire with all the lore behind him and again can talk about him for hours.
I don't think that there is a window for when we as fans believe that he can't win a WDC anymore. Because if there is one thing about Charles Leclerc then it is that he'll fight for it regardless of the car that he has.
Il Predestinato was a name given to him by Vanzini when he was like 15 by Carlo Vanzini. Vanzini was interviewing Charles and during the end (I think as vanzini was leaving) Charles said "It will never be possible that we end up fighting for the title and it’s my teammate fighting for it instead of me." The nickname was only popularized when he won Monza 2019 but Vanzini had used it for Spa 2019 and also when Charles was in Alfa Romeo Sauber.
Charles has shown that if he has the car he will challenge and fight for wins, but also this season I don't think is as big of a hit to his abilities as people make it out to be.
Yes he is behind Carlos in the standings and Carlos has gotten a win (on a track that Red Bull, but let's be completely honest, wasn't good for Max. And Singapore is a slower track in comparison to others.) But Charles is 17 points behind Carlos. He's 17 points behind in a car that wasn't built for him, with multiple DNFs (many of which were not his own fault), and Ferrari screwing up his strategy. Charles being so close is due to his ability as a driver. If Charles was having a bad season the points difference would be similar to the one between alonso and stroll.
Just looking at Austin, Charles started on pole but finished p6 and Carlos finished p4 (before the disqualifications due to Ferrari/Mercedes not having thin planks). However, the only reason Carlos had the better strategy was because he had worn out his tyres and it forced Ferrari to pit him early.
Charles is overdriving the car, but most of the time he's also extracting more than is possible from the car which is why he has multiple poles this season.
If he doesn't win a WDC (but I do think he will win eventually), he'll still go down as one of the great drivers in F1 like Stirling Moss and Gilles Villeneuve. There's something special about Charles Leclerc that other drivers don't have.
Charles Leclerc is the kid who was in an endurance karting race on a team with his brother (I think), Jules, and some other guy and when they didn't come back after the first hour, raced for like 3 hours so they wouldn't lose first place. He was born in Monaco but raised in Maranello. He is a tifoso at heart and bleeds rosso corsa. He loves the tifosi and they love him so much that there were talks of storming Maranello to get rid of Binotto.
Ahhh this was much longer than I thought it would be but I can write essays on this man.
Yeah honestly can we talk about how Ferrari literally STOLE Charles’s Il Predestinato brand? This is not talked about enough but I was talking about it the other day, I don’t remember with whom. I feel like Ferrari has kind of appropriated the Il Predestinato lore and entwined it so much with their brand and his love for the team that most people don’t even know he was destined to be a champion before he was destined to be a Ferrari driver.
I guess you have answered the question of when will people stop believing - Never.
I also wholeheartedly believe if he had the car and the team he would fight and he could win. But I don’t think Ferrari will be that team for him. So for me it all comes down to whether he will ever leave.
For me what’s special about Charles is his lore. There’s a gold dust about him that evokes the ghost of heroes past. It’s just a magic. And I think he will be remembered regardless of whether he wins a title. But I think he wants a title. Sadly I think he wants it with Ferrari enough to be wasting time.

Let’s go on another rant. So here’s the thing: I’m a strongly believer in the fact that, as long as you’re respectful and don’t insult anyone, it’s completely ok to have a favourite driver inside the team you support.
I’ve recently seen on socials people debating wether it’s right or wrong that fans have a favourite, more specifically the dilemma it’s about tifosi preferring Charles over Carlos. So here’s why, in my opinion, tifosi, especially Italian ones (being Italian that’s where I feel like I can give a bit of insight), may like Charles better.
1. Charles is a home grown talent, he went through the minor categories being a FDA driver. He’s been part of the academy for years and he’s had a connection with Ferrari even prior to that. Obviously fans of the team would love for someone the scuderia has shown faith in, succeed.
2. He’s a Ferrari fan. As Seb said “everybody is a Ferrari fan” on a certain level. The thing is: with Charles you can truly see he’s a tifoso himself. I’m sure Carlos loves Ferrari, but do I see in him the same love Charles carries for the team… I’m sorry, but I really don’t. I believe one of the reasons why tifosi love Charles so much is because we can see ourselves in his love for Ferrari (I may argue he may love it even more than the majority of tifosi)
3. He’s loyal. It’s no secret that he received offers from other teams, but he never had a doubt and stayed with Ferrari. He did so ‘cause his dream is to win a WDC with Ferrari and I feel we’re lucky ‘cause other drivers may have changed team already. He stayed with scuderia trough the horrors of 2020, dragging that red tractor to remarkable positions. He worked trough 2021 when wasn’t lucky at all and new fans where praising Carlos for beating him (I don’t even wanna go there, ‘cause that's just another rant waiting to be written).
He never said anything bad about the team, even when everybody would have justified it. Like in Monaco, he just said “WE can’t be doing these mistakes”... I would have honestly been okay with him killing the strategists, but he didn’t. In Silverstone you could see he was down and he wasn’t probably agreeing with the strategy. Was he screaming bloody murder, as he should have? No, he said “He was no one to ask Ferrari for clarification” and that “he didn’t want his sadness to overshadow Carlos’ win”. I could never do that, and I feel a lot of current drivers couldn’t either.
4. He’s humble, to the point he’s almost self-deprecating sometimes. He will blame himself first, work on what he could have done better, and then check if it was also someone else’s fault. With Carlos, and in this case I feel like it could be a wrong perception I have of him in interviews, he’s kind of taking the blame, but then adding he was unlucky and that it was also not his fault.
I’m not saying a driver should take the blame for something that’s out of their control, but Charles does it and to tifosi it feels as if he’s protecting the team doing so.
5. This may be something I perceive, but other people don’t. Charles feels more like an Italian than Carlos does. It may be due to the fact that there’s a lot of Italians in Monaco, or simply because he grew up in Ferrari, but I swear... Italians are this close to adopt him as one of our own.
6. He won in Monza. Do I need to add anything else?
7. His personality is very soft and endearing. Is he really like that? We’ll never know, but the perception you get of Charles is of someone kind, soft spoken and, at the same time, goofy, silly and funny. This in an environment were, up until a few years ago, you were supposed to be brash and arrogant, to assert superiority. I couldn't say if his PR team deserves more money, or if he’s really like that, but I’m prone to believe that’s the way he is.
He’s always kind to fans, down to earth and polite... to the point where sometimes I’d like to see him get angry, but he doesn’t. He’s tifosi sweetheart and if he won’t be rude and defend himself, you can be sure we will.
8. Last, but not least, he’s insanely talented. We wouldn’t be here discussing why tifosi love him if he wasn’t a good driver.
He’s been incredibly fast from the beginning. And that’s the talent he was born with: you can see it in qualy when he manages to find those extra tenths where nobody else can. But the problem is that people will say he’s relying on his talent only, and that’s just not real. He had areas where he wasn’t just as gifted and he worked hard to get better (like tires management). He worked on his mental strength. He learnt from his teammates, focusing on areas where he was lacking something. And that’s why he’s become the driver he’s now.
Also, and this is where my analysis will become 100% subjective and kinda philosophical, Charles in Ferrari feels like fate. I don’t know weather it’s because of his personal history or not, but he’s destined to be in red.
This is where “il predestinato” or “il principe rosso” come from. He’s Ferrari, as much as tifosi are. He’s both the heartbreak of a loss and the indescribable joy of a win.
And if all of this reasons weren’t enough… he’s faster than his teammate. Since f1 is about winning that alone would justify why tifosi are picking him over Carlos.

🏎️💨 THE FORMULA 1 TAG GAME! 🏎️💨
Who or what got you into F1?
i've always been into it mainly because my dad used to watch f1 back when michael & ferrari were dominating the sport, but then he stopped when michael retired the first time? lmao, so me and my brother stopped following the sport as well. i kind of got back into it when seb won his championships at red bull, but the full hyperfixation mode started in the 2021 season.
Who was the very first F1 driver you supported? Do you support them now? Have your opinions on them differed or stayed the same since then?
MICHAEL SCHUMACHER. ever since i was a kid he remains THEE greatest of all time for me and i doubt that that's ever going to change.
Who's your current favorite F1 driver?
charles leclerc, followed VERY closely by max verstappen.
Is there a driver pairing or pairings that you support? What made you attracted to that pairing in the first place?
max/charles. i am sorry but their lore, their history is just unparalleled.
Do your parents, siblings, or relatives have a favorite team and/or favorite driver(s)?
although my dad doesn't follow the sport as much anymore, he's still a tifoso and he's warming up to the idea of charles restoring the team to its glory (the move charles made on checo in vegas 2023 kind of sealed the deal for him); and my brother.. *sighs* he's a checo fan (THE DISGRACE!).
Do you have any favorite races? Are there any that stand out to you the most?
in no particular order: barcelona 2016, monza 2019, silverstone 2019, abu dhabi 2021 (but to be fair, that whole season is one for the ages), australia 2022, austria 2022, vegas 2023 and abu dhabi 2023.
Do you have a favorite circuit? Can be from the past or from the current calendar.
monaco, spa francorchamps, imola, monza and red bull ring.
Have you ever been to an F1 race in real life? Feel free to tell us your experience going to one if you like.
not yet but I. AM. COOKING.
Have you ever met an F1 driver in real life?
no :(
Do you have a favorite F1 car? If so, what is it?
michael's ferrari f2004 and max's rb19 a.k.a 'rocky'.
Do you have a favorite one win wonder?
my favorite baguette: pierre gasly <3
Do you have any favourite quotes from the F1 world? This can be either inspirational or hilarious.
there are so many but these three are the first that come to mind:
"Everybody is a Ferrari fan. Even if they say they’re not, they are Ferrari fans." (Sebastian Vettel)
"Maybe God is with Hamilton, but he's not God." (Max Verstappen)
"By being a racing driver, you are under risks all of the time. By being a racing driver means, you are racing with other people and if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you're no longer a racing driver." (Ayrton Senna)
———
thank youuu my beloveds @supercollide & @fueledbyremembering this was incredibly fun <3
tagging @lewispullsman @fabbyf1 @wisteria-wisteria (no pressure though!) and anyone else who wants to do it.

Hello.
I've been on this website for over a decade but this is my first post ever, so please excuse my awkward ass.
Scuderia Ferrari keeps feeding into my trust issues, but alas that's the life of a Tifoso now.
(Toddler Tifoso me was so happy and well fed watching La Rossa win every other Sunday :'))
My soft spot for Charles is now roughly the size of a planet, as it should.
I've been quietly lurking on the Lestappen tag for ages, and that's what this blog will mainly be about. They make me very happy.
Sometimes I write?
The Bird app took my F1 and Lestappen tls away from me, so hopefully I'll find my people on here too lmao
... I don't know how to end this, I'm sorry.

There’s a reason why Charles is adopted by all Italy and Carlos is not: Charles is born and raised as a tifoso and we feel it, respect it because he’s not just a driver, he’s one of us. That’s why we’ll always defend him, even against our own team, we need to protect our people first and rn Charles is more Ferrari than Binotto. Meanwhile Carlos can never be. Even if he (from absurd circumstances I know) will win the championship for Ferrari and Charles not, Leclerc will always be remembered as one of the most beloved driver ever. And when we say “only tifosi can trow shit on Ferrari”, Charles is entitled too, we wish he will. And if you (Carlos) don’t understand how powerful is the connection that tifosi have with Charles and why we have it, you don’t deserve us. Simple as that.
(Sorry just wanted to rage about Carlos’ comment because I don’t know the source but if it’s real he has Italy on thin ice and you don’t want to be on the wrong side of Tifosi rage)
No you're so right for this. As the gc was saying, we might actually see a Ferrari driver getting booed at Monza for the first time ever this year and it would be so deserved (unlike carlos' win)

ice cream au where Max comes in one day and one of the other employees (i’m thinking Ollie just for funsies) is working the counter and just…short circuits into Angry Tifoso Mode which catches Max off guard cuz he had Charles had been…good recently and all the sudden this Bambi eyed teenager is cursing him out in the name of Enzo Ferrari and defending Charles honor throughout the whole transaction before angrily handing him The Largest Bowl of Mint Chip ever, and sticking a little ferrari flag on it
Anyway the employees are Not Thrilled by these development of having a Red Bull driver at their place of employment
oh you just knooow the other 2 employees at the shop would be judging charles so hard for obviously being into max and not giving him enough shit for driving for red bull. because at first charles would be #1 hater like everyone else because they do Not serve red bull fans, let alone red bull drivers, but then charles would be spending time with max at the shop when no one else is coming so he doesn't have to stand behind the counter and he would start liking max despite him still being a red bull driver.
but then ollie would send him dms like "max just stopped by! sad you couldnt be there:( he looked rlly disappointed. good you dont really care about him so you shouldnt be affected by this information in any way." to tease charles

This year I’ve said a lot of bad words about Ferrari and actually I’m not ashamed of it and I still stay by it. But it doesn’t mean that I don’t love them anymore even if I say I hate them.
It’s like they are stupid idiots but they are my stupid idiots. And always will be. I’ve never chosen a team because of winning, because love is not about winning. Love is about love. Sometimes it becomes ugly from the both sides. I’m acting like there is the second side in my doomed unrequited love to Ferrari, but it is what it is. And the day I stop care about Ferrari will be the day I lose my interest to F1.
Yes, I still probably love Charles more, but it’s not like I love him outside Ferrari or above Ferrari. Yes, I suggested him to change the team, because I’m hotheaded, emotional and impatient in the moment of anger and disappointment. But it actually doesn’t mean anything. I love him in Ferrari and I want him to become the champion with Ferrari, because he is true Ferrari soul right now. He carries on the legacy. He is our capitano. He is Il Predestinato. He is our Red Prince. He is the first tifoso. There is no doubt that he wants the future that we all want for the team. And if we don't deserve him - we are sore losers.
I don’t like you most of the time, and you know why, but I love you, stupid Scuderia Ferrari, with all my stupid heart.

So Ferrari Mick v Mercedes Mick
Mercedes … I feel like they would be able to balance both Mick and George but if George is able to establish a stronger fight for the world championship (I dunno how to word that), Mick might become the 2nd driver. Vice versa as well but George is a Mercedes academy graduate. Tbf they would be looking at results.
Ferrari… Most likely Mick will partner Charles unless the upper management of Ferrari have completely lost and let go of Charles. This is unlikely because what’s better than one FDA graduate - two FDA graduates. Looking at how Ferrari are this year, what with saying they are not focusing on the championship event before the fifth race, I feel like it will be painful. (On a side note, why the fuck did they say that it’s a 22 race season and to give up that early, jeez) Similar to Merc, Mick must establish a strong early lead ahead of Charles to be seen as no 1 (again looking at this year, I don’t know if that will cause Ferrari to help him). It has to be said that being at Ferrari, the pressure will be fucking immense - even more than now. (I feel like I mansplained that sorry). In addition to just carrying the surname of The Michael, he would facing expectations of the tifosi who would see the dominant success of Michael and perhaps hope to see it replicated maybe. This is in a few years so maybe the perception might change and I’m not a tifoso so I could actually be completely wrong about this.
It’d be difficult to say cos Mick would be partnering up with drivers who are capable of winning the drivers’ championship and are quite strong as well.
But I think I’ll go with Merc Mick. Whilst, their relationship became very toxic, both Lewis and Nico Rosberg did become world champions with Mercedes and also whilst being teammates with each other.
I don’t think Ferrari has ever had a teammate duo become world champions with them. ( I could be wrong - the history of Ferrari is long and like I said, I’m not a tifoso)
In short, Merc Mick for the win. Sorry for the long ass ask and if it made no sense as well
oh very very interesting take tbh and I agree I just think for Ferrari Mick I feel like both Mick, Ferrari and the tifosi would like understand that mick is the second driver for a while because I mean he would be and hes never that strong thr first year.
but the merc argument yeah I get that I feel like merc would be a lot more fair on Mick then Ferrari I think ever could be but that at merc something would feel like its missing.

First and foremost, thank you Seb. I know this means nothing, and it's just to make me feel better about this situation. I'm upset, I can't really accept this, and I don't want to move on from this. Before Seb formula 1 was something to watch on tv with my dad, and I was little so the only thing that I saw was the red car, bright and fast. And then I grew up, I started paying attention more, I started learing all about it, and it came 2008, Monza, I can remember that race so clearly, and Seb won and I knew it, that's my guy! The redbull years are a bit of an haze not gonna lie, but I remember the joy, the laugh, teasing my dad because he was a tifoso and could not stand Seb at the time. We had great years, 4 world championships, youngest driver to become a world champion, just you wait sunshine. And Ferrari. Ah, my dream was coming through, my favorite driver and the team, I was not prepared for this era. The ups and down were a lot, but the happy times were whorty 100% more. Seb the formula 1 driver is forever a Ferrari driver in my heart. No matter what happened there, no matter the failure, the anger, the loss. Aston Martin Seb might be calmer, happier, more at peace, but I don't want to remember him like this. It pains me to see him fade away from the sport so far back on the track when he deserved so much more.
But I want to say this, Sebastian Vettel you made history here, whether you see it or not, your legacy won't go to waste, your personality and what you accomplished shaped the sport as we know it. You went from this cocky little bastard, this menace on the track, a little rude, to one of the most self aware person on the grid, making your way through now with all these important issues about the climate, about our planet, making this your new mission. We will not forget you, we will not let the memory of you fade away. Thank you for making me love this sport, thank you for your race craft, your moments with Lewis, your time with Charles, thank you for making us witness you. So long Seb, I hope you can teach us one more lesson before your time is over.
