Today marks the start of #childrensgriefawarenessweek, running from the 15th-21st November, and founded by children’s bereavement charity @griefencounter. Every 22 minutes in the UK, a child experiences the death of a parent or sibling. I’m showing my support, and raising awareness of children and young people who have been bereaved by Going Purple! @griefencounter offer accessible bereavement support across the UK, and their helpline is free and confidential. Most of our men our so busy being the strength for mothers, carrying the weight so caught up in being the guard of the situation; they don’t allow themselves to feel in that moment too; or atleast they don’t show it. For more reasons than one 🎈 So today I just want to touch on a little recognition for our amazing selfless Father’s that has experience the lost of their child. We know this is hard for you too. Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our own emotions we loose sight on the fact that we both brought this baby into the world, we were both preparing ourselves mentally, physically and financially to care for our little one and we both share the grief of his/her loss. & that in itself can become a strain on any one relationship/ parenthood. We understand you have different ways to grief. We understand you “show” different ways to feel. We understand, you too need a shoulder to lean; & we take comfort that in the time we needed you most, you were upmost present. “You handed him/her off to the hospital when I couldn’t. I carried him/her in my belly for 9 months, but you were our safe haven, you were out tower of strength & you were our bravery. That time will heal all and one day you will wake up and you’ve moved on. But the truth is, the grieving never goes away. It’s more than loosing a baby, it’s loosing a lifetime of whole lifetime of dreams and memories we never got to make. It’s loosing the child we never got to know, a friendship between siblings we never got to witness, a teenager we never got to comfort, an adult we never got to be proud of. If you’ve ever had the thought; “ why are they still talking about it when it’s been (enter time frame) know that you are absolutely blessed for not knowing the answer to that question.
