Pay Attention to the Detours

Life has often presented me with difficult choices. To let go of paths that wouldn't lead me to everything I wanted. And directions to new paths I hadn't considered. The new path usually looks rugged and I am not always sure I am wearing the right shoes, laughs. But I choose to walk it.

And if I choose to look up long enough, I realise what the old path was really leading me to. And while it isn't' the destination I had in mind. The one I reached, turns out to be far more spectacular than that.

If the plan doesn't evolve, it's usually the wrong plan. Pay attention to the detours, they lead to the most remarkable places.

The Course that I want or they want? (part 1)

Did you really choose the course you’re studying now? Does it inspires/motivate you to study hard to reach the dream work you always wanted? Fresh graduates from Senior High, did you experience emersion? Did it make you choose the right course you want to take up on college? These are some of the questions that I’m curious about what would the answers of fresh 1st year college students be and I want to share this opinion of mine about how I choose the course I’m taking now that I am a fresh 1st year college student.

We all know that K-12 is being implemented in this generation. It is like a 2 years preparation for the students to make a final decision on what course they will took up in college. But as I observe on senior high students, they are still having a hard time choosing the right courses and when their time in senior high ends they are still undecided. Most of them does not even know what is the purpose of why there is senior high being implemented. I knew some fresh graduates of senior high that what strand they took up on senior high was not match on the course they’ve taken on college so some of them have to undergo bridging.

When I was in senior high school, at first, I always asked what is the reason or the purpose of implementing senior high because back in my 10th grade I was ready to become a college student. Senior high was like high school years but the difference is that you have to make sure you don’t fail in any subjects that you have. The subjects are mix, it has from junior high school and some in college 1st year subjects. In senior high there are different strands, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), ABM (Accountancy and Business Management), HUMSS (Humanity and Social Studies), and TVL (TechVocational Learning). Even though you’re in senior high, you will experience choosing a strand where your course belong.

In my case, I choose STEM strand because the course that I want belongs to STEM strand and that is nursing. STEM strand are similar to courses that deals with Engineering, Medical or Science fields, and as nursing is in Medical field I was enrolled in the STEM strand. I can say that senior high isn’t just easy as students think it is like in junior high because in my years in senior high, it was like a pre- phase years before the real phases of surviving in college begins. In senior high you have to have grades with no line of 7 especially in STEM strand students, because it would be very difficult for you to be accepted in college with line of 7 grades. For you to be able to have at least 80 above grades, you just have to study hard that is the key to pass all the subjects in senior high.

#1 blog: Is grade 12 university level English classes be necessary for entry into all university programs?

I think Grade 12 university level English classes should not be necessary for entry into all university programs. I think this because some people don’t need English to be say an engineer. It is unnecessary because you need English if you want to become a writer or something. People should have an option whether they do or don’t need English for whatever program they decide to take.

You don’t need an English course to be a photographer, a scientist or anything in the engineering department. Your not going to be writing about how a person, place or thing looks. With math that doesn’t even make sense to have English, its all numbers. If you are taking a math or science program you don’t need to have your Grade 12 English. You don’t necessarily need it unless you want to become, like I said before, a writer or author.

If you want to become a writer then by all means. You can take your Grade 12 English. But, you don’t need it. If the program says its not a requirement then take whatever you need to take to get into that program. Why should we have to take English to be a engineer?

There is an option for not taking Grade 12 English although it does close some of your pathways. In the end its what ever you want to do with your future/life.

To answer the question: No you should not have to take Grade 12 English to get into a program of your choice.
