Hey queen hope all is well
Now on to a very serious question
When Jude and Cardan…. well… ya know…AHEMED 🥴🫣😳… in QON
was Jude on top or when she says that she fumbles into the right position, does she mean that they like legit switched positions so that he was on top
I’m just never entirely sure I change my mind ever time I read it
hiya babes! Jude is on top. i'll take you through the succession of events from QON, chapter 21. welcome to Em's Sex Ed Breakdown.
(this ask will be talking about sex explicitly. if you don't want to read about sex, keep scrolling)
1. Jude lies down on the floor, naked and mocking Cardan.
Tumblr media
2. Cardan cages her body with his on the floor, tells her to mock him all she likes.
Tumblr media
3. they kiss, and he's physically on top of her.
Tumblr media
4. then he moves off of her and lies beside her, asking her what she wants.
Tumblr media
5. she straddles him. when she says she fumbles into what she thinks is the right position, she means over his dick. (i could imagine that Elfhame does not have very good sex ed. their sex ed is watching older people have sex at revels until they're old enough to have sex themselves. so it makes sense that Jude is like "i thiiiiiinnnk this is how it's done?")
Tumblr media Tumblr media
6. and we have further proof of Jude being on top when she says she is in control. one of the only positions really where a vagina-haver is in control during penetrative sex is when they're on top. and the reason she's "kind of in control kind of out of control" is because, well, the sensation of sex, especially when you're unused to it, can feel a lot like losing control.
Tumblr media
hope this cleared some things up for you!
–Em 🖤🗡

Could you do a Jurdan fanfic where they reunite post During Jude’s banishment but pre-queen of nothing but Jude is on a date, or Cardan thinks some guy is courting Jude and he jealously glamours the guy to leave her alone. And it leads to angst?
Of course, lovely! Thank you for the request! It turned out a bit longer than I had anticipated, and I tweaked it a bit, but I’m happy with the result. I hope you enjoy it, as much as I loved writing it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jude Durate, High Queen of Elfhame, Wife to Cardan Greenbriar, was on her seventh date with a human boy. The boy was sweet, the complete opposite of the folk in Faerie. The kind of boy you fell for slowly over time until you looked at him one day and realized that you were wholly and utterly in love with him.
Jude was terrified of him. Vivi had set them up, wanting Jude to heal from the scars of Faerie, and during the month and a half she’d been in the mortal lands, she learned what people meant when they said your heart could be divided in two. Though she loved Cardan, he seemed like a dream, like she could never truly have him. Lucas was more real, more than a daydream.
Attempting to be discreet, Jude slanted her eyes to study the boy walking next to her, chattering on about mundane things. He was averagely tall with sandy blonde hair and striking emerald eyes. He looked nothing like Cardan. In her eyes, that was all that mattered. He was a distraction, a bit of fun during her banishment. After all, her delightful husband was surely doing the same.
They were walking along the pier near a beach Jude had discovered during the month away from Faerie. It was a quiet spot, away from the worrying gaze of Vivi. The boy, Lucas, suddenly smiled at her shyly, a flush reddening his cheeks to a brilliant flame. “Would it be okay if I held your hand?”
Jude’s heart hammered in her chest, wondering what she was getting herself into. If she said no, his disappointment would simmer awkwardly between them. If she said yes… would it be a betrayal to her vows? She swallowed the phlegm in her throat, trying to shove away all thoughts of what this small gesture meant. Without giving herself a moment to second guess what she was doing, Jude forced her lips to upturn at the corners, as though she was pleased he asked. “I would like nothing more.” She stretched out her hand and laced his fingers with hers, secretly enjoying the feel of his smooth palm against her calloused one. Lucas’s eyes widened imperceptibly at her move.
Wonderment filling his gaze, Lucas studied her scarred palm. “Where did you get this scar from?” He traced the scar she had received when she pledged her loyalty to Dain with reverence.
What was she to tell him? She couldn’t very well say that she had cut open her own palm in order to gain the protection of the Prince of Elfhame. He would think her mad, and then who knows what would happen to her. She would have to lie, as she did about most things. Her mortal ability to skirt around the truth came in handy once more. “Childhood accident. You know how kids are. Magnets for disaster!”
Lucas chuckled, the fading light of the sun hitting the golden flecks of his eyes as he turned his head towards her. “I know exactly what you mean!” His fingers danced over her scar lightly, lovingly while his other hand traced circles in the sand. “When I was six years old, and learning how to ride a bike, I lost control and crashed right into a big old maple tree! Cut open my arm horribly. My grandma almost had a heart attack with the amount of blood that was on me.” When he mentioned his grandma, his face took on a softened look, his full lips fondly turning up as he reminisced on the past.
“Both of us are covered in scars, as the two accident prone children we were.” She was deflecting, she knew, from the truth. But it was the only way to keep him safe from her past.
From the corner of her eye, Jude saw a Golden Retriever huddled up against a building, with the faint shimmer of wings hovering in her peripheral vision. Jude’s pace slowed down as the pixie tormenting the dog smirked at her, taunting her. Even now, far away from Court, her past continued to haunt her, reminding her how she did not fit into the mortal world. She would never be safe here.
Lucas, oblivious to the pixie and her racing thoughts, pointed out a landmark on the far side of the coast. “That lighthouse over there is where I lost my first tooth. I was so excited by the ships, I wiggled my loose tooth a little too hard. Blood gushed all over me, staining my favorite shirt. My parents fussed over me for days. I even had the tooth fairy visit me for the first time. Found a whole dollar underneath my pillow the next morning.”
The tooth fairy. Such a human tradition. Jude had never experienced it, as her parents had been murdered before her teeth fell out.
A few people moved around the two of them on the sidewalk, not wanting to interfere with the moment they were having. Jude, not aware they would be seen by anybody, blushed fiercely. She looked away from the fond looks people threw her way, and pulled Lucas to a stop. She dragged him over to the sand, far away from the pixie, and made to sit down. Mercifully, he didn’t question it. “What are your parents like?” She asked, trying, and failing, to calm her nerves.
“They were wonderful people from what I can remember. Every Saturday night they took me to the lighthouse to look at the ships docking in the harbor. My father worked there, and rarely left his post. The sea called to him, as it does to me.” Ships now were now pulling in, guided by the beam of light pouring out from the top of the lighthouse. Lucas watched the boats, a fascinated look taking over his features.
As the sun set over the horizon, glowing softly with pinks, purples, and oranges, gulls crying out in the distance, waves crashing against the beach, Jude felt a sense of peace settle over her, despite the pixie. With Lucas it was easy to feel safe, to let her mind drift away. In another life, she pictured herself with him. Forcing the words out around the memories of Cardan, she softly asked, “Have your parents died?”
With a rueful smile, Lucas looked up at the sky watching the seagulls circle overhead, his eyes far away. “Yeah. They died in a fire when I was eight. My grandparents raised me after that. It was hard to accept that they were gone for a while. I couldn’t even go to the lighthouse without thinking of them, of having the memories crash over me like the waves against the shore.” He was becoming detached, distant.
Jude did something she never expected herself to do. Gently, she took his hand out of hers, pulling his face towards her, so that they were eye to eye. “My parents died when I was seven. I guess we’re both orphans. I was raised by an… uncle after that with my two sisters. You’re not alone. Orphans always find each other, searching for a home in one another, hoping they will finally belong somewhere.”
The sea rocked against the sand, splashing the two of them with little droplets. Neither noticed, too lost in the depthless ache they felt deep in their chests.
Reaching out a shaky hand, Lucas brushed away a stray strand of hair that was stuck against her cheek. “I think I’ve found my home.”
Knowing she was already damned, Jude leaned forward and drew Lucas into her arms, resting her chin on his shoulder, breathing in his scent. He smelled of cedar, the sea, with faint undercurrents of spices. She shut her eyes, relishing the feel of safety in his arms.
His breath tickled her ear as he moved towards her. “What was your childhood like? You never talk about it.” Immediately she stiffened, memories flashing by of a gentry member biting off the tip of her ring finger, another yanking her out from under a table at a revel and being tormented and glamoured, wearing rowan berries everywhere to avoid her mortality betraying her.
A childhood that was no childhood at all.
“It was a childhood like no other,” she choked out.
He pulled back, grasping her forearms and looking into her eyes, brow furrowed in confusion. “I’m sorry if I hit a sore subject, I only wish to know you more.”
Before she could answer she was hit with the scent of roses, citrus and the overwhelming smell of wine. There was only one being with that aroma that she knew. Cardan.
Sure enough, there he glided behind her on the sand, his black eyes boring into her, burning her like a brand. His tail peeked out from his trousers, gently swaying in the wind. A cruel grin bedecked his face, as he narrowed in on the boy who held her in his arms.
“Jude?” Lucas asked, drawing her gaze away from her husband. Gods. Her husband. The King of Elfhame was here. In the mortal lands. And here she was, on a date.
“Sorry, I-I think I’m getting tired.” Behind Lucas’s back, Cardan snickered.
Lucas nodded, eyes roving over her too bright eyes, the fake smile adorning her lips. “Before we turn in, I have something for you.”
“For me?”
“Yes. Just a moment.” Reaching in the back pocket of his pants, Lucas drew out a necklace with a sterling silver ring hung on the chain. The ring twisted around a small pearl, edged with small gems placed around the base. The ring was simple, beautiful. Perfect.
She was speechless. “Do you like it?”
“I love it.” But just as she said it, the raven haired boy from her past crept into her vision, patiently waiting for her to go over to him. Lucas didn’t notice, too lost in Jude to see anything beyond.
Lucas gently swung the necklace around Jude’s throat, carefully securing the latch. He lifted up the hair that was trapped by the chain. Jude smiled softly at the gift, and at the boy who had given it to her without a second thought, attempting to block out Cardan so she could remember this moment without the stain of Faerie. “I found the pearl when I was out at sea a few weeks ago, and I thought of you. I made it myself last night. It’s a promise necklace, since I didn’t know what size ring you wore. A promise that, one day, we’ll be married.”
Jude’s smile slipped off her face. “Marriage?” Unbeknownst to him, she was already married to another, her heart belonged to another. In another life, perhaps, this could have worked, but things being the way they were, it wouldn’t last. She had duties and promises to fulfill.
Behind them, Cardan had gone stone-still, his tail twitching back and forth. A strange light filled his eyes, the golden ring around his pupil disappearing, his mouth set in a hard line. It was an odd sight to see. Cardan standing on the sand on a mortal beach with his extravagant clothing studded with gems and jewels, his crown perched haphazardly on his head. Of course he brought his crown, as though he was reminding Jude of who he was. If any mortals noticed him, they didn’t let on. He must have been glamoured, for everyone casually flowed around him as though he wasn’t even there.
Lucas twisted around to see why Jude kept looking over his shoulder, and found nothing, for he couldn’t see the ghost from her past. “What do you keep looking at? Have I moved too fast?” He turned to look at her once more, a heartbreaking expression on his face. The confusion hurt Jude as she could never tell him the truth. Never let him know who she really was, and where she had come from.
“Just-Just a dog. I like dogs, that’s all.”
Carefully Lucas reached for her forearms and pulled her towards him until they were mere feet apart. Cardan moved closer.
“Jude. I’m sorry if I’ve startled you with my declarations. It’s just that I know you’re what I want. I know I’ve only known you for a little over a month, but with each passing day I fall in love with you a little bit more. Your wit, your intellect, your dimples, that look you get when you think no one is looking, when you look happy and relaxed, your guard let down. I love you, Jude. If you don’t feel as strongly as me, I understand, I do. I’m prepared to wait a thousand years.” He nestled his face into her neck, his sandy hair tickling her skin.
Unconsciously she began to run her fingers through his soft hair, wondering if he could feel her racing heart. “Lucas-” She started, about to break his heart, to let him down easy, but suddenly, he jerked under her touch, as if he were a puppet and a puppet master had pulled his strings.
He pulled back as if in a trance, his limbs rigid, rose to his full height and began to walk away. Jude scrambled to her feet and attempted to pull him around. Oblivious to her, he kept marching forwards towards Cardan, never looking back. She hurried in front of him, to see his face. A glazed look had overtaken his features, a blissful expression on his peaceful face. “Lucas?”
There was no answer, no matter how hard she willed him to stop, no matter how many times she shouted his name, there was nothing. No sign of the boy who had given her his heart. So, defeated, she stopped trying to get him to halt and followed him towards the boy who had shattered her life.
Cardan was smirking at her, his hands placed casually in his pockets. “Hello, my darling Jude. How are the mortal lands treating you?” He purred, as soon as Jude was within range. He held out his arms to her, wanting to draw her into a hug, but she crossed her arms, unwilling to give him what he desired.
When she saw Cardan again, she thought she’d be overjoyed, to leap at the chance to go back. But she was angry. So unbelievably angry she wanted to hurt him as he had hurt her. “After banishing me and betraying my trust, you ask how I am? You show up, unannounced, mind you, and expect me to embrace you with open arms? No. I shall not. And you glamoured my date.” Jude frowned, her lips curling downwards, looking at Lucas’s dazed expression next to the King of Elfhame.
He dropped his arms, a wounded expression on his face. “I come in peace, to offer you a chance to return. I thought after all my letters, you would understand my regret and how much I wish to see you home.”
Letters? There had been nothing but silence. “Is this another one of your tricks? To get to me to sympathize with you? I never received anything. And Faerie is not my home. I am mortal, as I am so often reminded, and replaceable. I have no home, not anymore, not after you banished me. I cannot return.”
Again, the small smile danced across his lips, as if this were a game. “Have I finally outwitted you, Jude Durate, master of tricks and wit?”
“What are you talking about?” The way he looked at her sent shivers down her spine. She had forgotten how he made her feel. Every touch, every look was as though a fire was exploding in her heart. Passion and desire warred over her common sense until she had given in to the whims of her deepest wants. Look how that had turned out.
Love was a fickle thing. It made you lose all sense until you were a love-stricken fool, incapable of seeing the ugly truth, wanting to believe the best of your partner. Love had turned her into the Court Jester. Playing tricks for them all until she had lost her balance and everything came crashing down around her while everyone laughed. A cascade of disaster.
Cardan took a step closer until they were sharing breath, every feeling she had forced down deep rose up again at the close proximity they were in. Cautiously, as if he didn’t want to startle her, he gently ran a finger down his face. “You could have returned any time you wanted. Until and unless she is pardoned by the crown, let her not step one foot in Faerie or forfeit her life. Are you not Faerie’s Queen? Are you not my wife?”
Jude felt the world closing in on her as she realized just what this meant. She could have pardoned herself. She was a fool, blinded by her wounded feelings. “Wife in name only. Who banishes their wife the day after they are married? You could have warned me, at least. Instead you let me go off into the mortal world, thinking I’d never see you again. I thought I knew better than to get involved with a Faerie, a King at that.” Now Cardan turned his attention to Lucas, still looking for all the world a love-sick puppy. “Is this mortal the better option?” Cardan’s lip curled. “A mortal who doesn’t even have decent fashion sense.” Cardan eyed Lucas’s clothes seriously, as if his very existence was an affront to everything Cardan stood for.
“Leave him alone. He didn’t do anything except get mixed up with the wrong person.”
Cardan roughly got hold of Lucas’s shirt and pulled him close in an intimate embrace. “Faerie leaves scars to everyone who passes through. You cannot pass through the fire unburned. So he shall suffer the consequences of trying to marry my wife.”
“Cardan what are you-” Faster than she could follow, faster than she knew he could move, he whipped out a knife from the folds of his tunic and slashed Lucas’s forearm, cutting through fabric - with her own blade for that matter. Lucas didn’t even flinch, the glamour erasing any emotion he felt.
Cardan released the boy, his chest heaving, blade dripping in blood, staining the golden flecks of sand a brilliant red.
She lunged forwards trying to sop up the blood with the edge of her dress that had begun to drip down through the torn folds of his shirt. The only thing she accomplished was soaking the blood into her clothes and skin.
“Now the remnants of Faerie will forever be etched upon his skin. He’ll always possess the fear of the land and the retaliation he’ll receive if he decides to chase after you again.” He looked proud of himself, as though he did something worthy or noble. “Come back with me, Jude. Let us return, as King and Queen, as Husband and Wife.”
How dare Cardan believe he had the right to mark a mortal like so, and expect her to be okay with it? Expect her to return to him with open arms. “I will only return with you if you promise to leave Lucas alone. No assassin’s sent after him, no poison in his cup. No harm ever to come to him.” Her heart bled for the boy who had done nothing wrong other than fall in love with the wrong person.
Cardan’s tail twitched back and forth as he contemplated her offer. “If that is what you wish, I shall grant it.” He waved his hand and Lucas lumbered away, arm still bleeding profusely.
They watched the boy stumble his way back to his home, listened to the shrieks that accompanied his arrival. Jude hated it. Hated that she was the reason for his pain.
“You have me back, but I swear to you I will hate you until I die for what you have done. You will never have me as you once did. I’ll be your Wife and Queen in name only.”
“I brought your sword, Nightfell, back from Vivi.” He held out the gleaming blade, as some sort of peace offering. Blood still dripped from the metal. She took it, only because the sword gave her comfort.
“Thank you,” she replied curtly. “Take me back, Cardan.”
“If that is what you wish.”
Jude reached up and fingered the necklace that lay on her collarbone, comforted by the pearl that slid smoothly through her fingers.
When they reached the bright green fields of Faerie, Jude was welcomed back with open arms. She smiled politely, accepted the congratulations, but felt an emptiness, as though she was missing a limb.
Faerie would never be her home again, nor would the Mortal Lands. She had been cursed to be a wanderer, never to have a place to feel safe. Once she had thought it was Cardan, but she was wrong. She was alone, just as she always was.
Cardan
As Cardan took hold of Jude’s arm to transport her back to Faerie, he wondered if he had done the right thing by glamouring her date and cutting him on the arm with Jude’s blade. He had thought she’d be proud of what he did, as she often resorted to more violent methods at Court. Perhaps he made an error, acted too rashly. Cardan did not know how he could make it up to her.
Although he had achieved his goal of bringing Jude home, the cost had been too high. Whatever love had been between them, was now squandered into the dirt, crushed beneath his crown. If he had simply been Cardan, and not Cardan, High King of Elfhame, would she still hate him as fiercely as she did? Was it the crown that made him act so impulsively? Or was it because he couldn’t bear to see Jude with someone else?
The awful feeling of jealousy was like a cancer, infecting his mind until he knew nothing else. All he saw was a boy courting his love, his Jude, and he had never wanted to kill a mortal so much before. He once swore to himself he would never spill blood by his own hand, but for Jude, he would do anything.
Yet now, as they were back at Court, Cardan noticed the distance now on Jude’s face as Oriana welcomed Jude back. Noticed how she kept touching the necklace at her throat.
When Jude looked at him, it was with a cold emptiness, a reserved impasse. He loved her still, but it seemed as though they were enemies once again.
Jude Durate, his wife, his Queen, hated him. He did not know if they could come back from it.

I need another tiny hot teaser of the next chapter of fine line 😭
"You're obscene." He was glaring at me when he said it. Hatred and hunger coalesced in black silk like bedsheets.

FINE LINE || SHE, VERSE 1- SNIPPET
☽☽☽☽☽
I recall last night with an even warmer flush.
How I'd slipped into his room like the moonlight. Soft and strange. Determination a whisper across my skin. How he'd been sprawled on the bed, just how I wanted him.
He had his phone pressed to his ear, talking to his boss on the other end in clipped words that reminded me of biting. Of teeth. I remember wanting them all over me.
The conversation—about manuscripts and deadlines and someone called Nicasia—was making Cardan’s face all lemon-pinched. I had the sudden urge to smooth down the sour lines with the pad of my thumb.
I closed the door behind me, leaned back against the wood, drinking him in. The drag of something delicious raking through my core. He'd looked up at the soft snick of the door, looked a question across the room at me. I held a finger to my lips.
It was a secret. Me, him. This room. The moon.
He'd swallowed, furrowed expression wiped clean, those inkblot eyes widening a fraction. A spill of dark lashes up to his brow bone.
I remember how I'd walked to the foot of his bed. How his T-shirt, which I wore now, swept soft against my thighs with every pendulum swing of my step. How he tracked the movement from his prone position, pray and predator at once.
How I climbed on the bed, straddling his knees, pinning him in place. Cardan had propped himself up on his elbows and muted the call.
What are you doing?
His voice was dark and quiet as night and his boss still whinged on in the background about something or another. Neither of us were paying much mind.
My lips spread into a smile I hoped was as feral as it felt.
You can tell me to stop.
I kept my voice low, tracing the outline of his cock, still half-hard in his jeans, with one fingertip.
If you want.
His jaw worked for a moment. Of course he wanted. Just not to stop.
“Cardan?” The voice on the other end of the line said.
Cardan fumbled for his phone, unmuted it. “Yeah. I’m here. Sorry.”
I bit my lip to keep from laughing.
Not a sound, he mouthed at me. Which I took as confirmation enough.
I kept my eyes fixed on his the whole time. If there was even a flit of doubt across his face, I would’ve packed it in for the night. But his gaze remained glazed and heated, glowering. As if to say, You make me this way. You make me want this.
I hate him and I want him. We are equals in this.
I popped the button at his waistband, tugging at the zipper. Cardan put the call on speaker and reclined back into the pillows.
It carried on like that for a while. Me with my hand around him, stroking his length to full mast. His eyes glaring, hands gripping my bare knees out of hatred and something to hold onto.
His boss’s voice droning into the room like a hoarde of cicadas.
And eventually, me with my mouth around Cardan’s cock, sucking the tip, flicking it with my tongue, taking him deep enough that glorious tears sprung to my eyes.
I remember relishing the twitch his hips gave, like a spark from flame. Licking the sinful beat of that vein on the underside of him, balls to tip. The memory of that filthy thing he’d done to me on the kitchen counter crackling in the air between us. Working up my own desire as if I hadn’t already come enough.
Cardan’s hands threading through my hair, tugging, sending a riot of shivers I could all but quell the quake of. How he’d tried to disguise his soft grunts into words of assent. “Uh-huh.” “Mm-Mhmm.” “Yes—right.”
Then, I did something even more wicked.

The way I need another teaser holy shit— 🥵🥵🥵
A shiver peals down my spine.
It's unbearable how much I still want him. How much more I want. Why did I ever fight this? How did I ever go without this? I can't recall my reasons. I am only the pith of me, only furious heartbeat and feeling.
The fulgency of the moment is such that I can't even remember the taste of the world before he tasted me. Which is upsetting.
He is not mine to crave like this.
By the look on his face, he is just as frayed, just as conflicted.
Two beats go by before he decides. I feel my feet leave the ground as Cardan stands. He holds the crooks of my legs in the crooks of his arms, tells me to hold on. So I do, gripping the back of his neck for purchase.
We are chest-to-chest, tangled breath, my legs like vines around him. Our foreheads touch as he carries me to the kitchen. I am too blissed-out to gripe.
"What are you doing?" I ask, still breathless. It's dark in here, and he doesn't turn on the lights.
"Having a proper meal," he says, setting me down on the island counter.

“On your knees, darling,” Cardan’s voice is dangerous, silken, like the ruby red ribbon he’s holding.
It takes Jude a great deal of effort to sink obediently to the floor. She is so unused to bending at the knee, but trust is the name of the game—a game Jude needs ample practice playing.
Her palms are sweaty with anticipation, her heartbeat a riot in her chest. She is flushed and bare, kneeling before him like some kind of sinless supplicant, though this may be the biggest lie of them all.
Tonight, Jude had lied.
She’d lied to Cardan and he’d known it from the moment the words left her lips. Part of her thinks she lied just to bait him.
A bait he all too willingly took. His temper had glittered in his eyes before he’d swept them off back to the Royal Chambers, closed and bolted the doors behind them, sent the guards away.
Then, he’d undressed her, as one would a wound.
Now, Jude studies the ornate rug she kneels on, the worn leather of Cardan’s boots as he crouches before her, and thinks this is the best kind of trouble she could have possibly sought to get herself into.
And also the worst. The idea of being at the mercy of another is still a terrifying prospect to the High Queen of Elfhame. Fear, she’d found however, in the right circumstances could be quite the heady aphrodisiac.
“My queen,” Cardan says, brushing a stray hair away from her face. “Exquisite. As stardust.”
Jude can’t help but blush deeper.
Her husband’s compliments, though scarce,  were never ordinary, even after all these years. And why should they be, when they loved each other in such extremes?
Cardan takes up her hands gently in his and begins wrapping the long length of ribbon around her wrists, binding them in front so that she is not entirely in control, but not entirely without it either.
It’s funny to Jude that Cardan should be always so careful in this, considering the not-at-all-gentle treatment she is about to receive.
She doesn’t dare laugh, though. Not now.
“Do you understand why I am doing this, Jude,” he asks.
“Yes.” Her eyes flit over the sharp angles of his face. She meets Cardan’s gaze, as bravely as she can. His is calm, like black water before a storm. A storm which shimmers on the edge of the horizon between them.
Cardan stares at her bottom lip, now pulled between her teeth, as if he might bite into it too, given the chance. Jude is sure she would let him.
After a moment, Cardan lowers his gaze back to the task at hand. “And why is that?” He loops the ribbon around itself then pulls tight.
“Because I lied,” she tells him, not an ounce of remorse in her voice.
“Precisely,” he says. “And what is it you lied about?”
“I said I hated you.”
“Yes.” Cardan nods, looping the ribbon a second time. “You said you hated me—in front of the entire court.” He pins her with a glare from underneath the trellis of his lashes, and Jude is reminded of the way in which he used to look upon her frequently—with an odd coupling of ire and lust.
Jude’s heart flies to her throat. There’s no use in denying it. “I did.”
“Why is that a bad thing, sweet villain?”
“Because they might misunderstand,” Jude says. “Because they might think I hate you in earnest.”
“And why is that a bad thing?”
“Because we need to remain a united front for the sake of Elfhame.”
A small smile plays at the corners of his devastating mouth. While her answer is not technically wrong, it’s not the answer he was looking for. Cardan ties off the ribbon in a careful bow, then looks at her with one raised brow, challenging.
Jude looks down at her bound hands, because it’s still hard to admit vulnerability, even to him. Even so exposed as she is now. “Because I don’t actually hate you.” It is a half truth, at best.
Her husband grips her chin between his thumb and the crook of his forefinger, canting her face so that she must look at him.
“Prove it.” Cardan says this like a dare. Probably because it is. The sweet plum wine of his breath fans across her face, making her head spin.
“I love you,” Jude says, softly. Saying these words aloud is always the greatest submission of herself, her deepest surrender.
Cardan knows this, and looks at her like she is the one and only wonder of the world. “You love me,” he repeats, letting go of her chin. It sounds more like he is trying to convince himself of the statement, rather than confirm she answered his question to his satisfaction.
Jude raises her bound hands to cup his cheeks. His face is warm and a bit stubbly. She strokes the pad of her thumb down his jawline. “Very much,” she says.
The way he closes his eyes, leans into her touch, makes something in her heart fracture a little.
“And I, you, my formidable dagger,” Cardan says. Removing her hands from his face, he places a kiss on both her palms before rising to his feet.
Then, something in his air shifts. He circles her like prey. Jude knows she must stay still, but the urge to follow his every move is a tempting one.
“Looking at you now, I see strength and grace. A sharply honed beauty,” Cardan says from behind her. Jude feels her cheeks heat anew, and she is glad he cannot see her blooming humility.
“I also see a liar,” Cardan continues. “And for liars, there is punishment.”
She can feel the thrumming of her pulse, every inch of her alive under his gaze. “Yes, my husband.”
She hears a rumble roll through Cardan’s chest.
Jude knows full well what that particular term of endearment does to him. And since she is so compromised before him, it is only fair she assert herself where she can.
“I am going to spank you, Jude,” Cardan tells her, apparently deciding to ignore transgression. “And when that is through, I am going to take you.”
A delicious curl of desire licks Jude’s core. She shivers.
“Does that sound like fair punishment to you?” he asks.
“Yes, my husband.”
Cardan is at her ear, long fingers at her throat before she can blink. They are feather-light, tracing up the veins in her neck, feeling the pound of her pulse there. It is threatening enough that Jude is given to staying very, very still. She feels the drive of his shoulder against her back.
“If you call me that one more time, Jude,” he growls so close to her that she can feel the vibrations of his voice skitter down her spine, “I will have no choice but to bend you over and fuck you with wild abandon. I will not be concerned with your pleasure, nor will I await your release.”
Jude’s eyes widen and she draws in a sharp breath.
“This will bring me no great amount of satisfaction,” Cardan continues, “As I do so love to feel you come around me. You want to satisfy me, don’t you, Jude?”
Jude swallows and nods.
“Good,” Cardan says, stroking a hand down her hair before moving away. “You are safe, dear Jude, but you will relinquish. Now, lean forward and be still.”
Jude complies, without hesitation this time. Since her wrists are bound, she goes down on her elbows, ass raised in the air.
She is completely exposed. Vulnerable.
Cardan kneels down beside her, sidling up to her left hip. She can feel the bulge straining beneath his trousers.
She’s not sure if it’s this or the knowledge of what’s to come that makes her slick with want. But when she feels Cardan’s palm come to rest on her backside, the simple touch sends a lance of heat coursing through her.
Her thighs press together.
“So eager, my queen,” Cardan hums, steadying her with a grip of his free hand on her right hip. “One might wonder if you devised this plan from the start.”
Jude grins wickedly at the floor, but says nothing.
“Naughty thing,” he says.
Without warning, he brings his hand down against her bare flesh. It’s not a hard blow, just enough for a slight pang of pain. But the surprise of it makes her gasp.
“You’re a liar, Jude,” Cardan says, rubbing slow circles with his palm for a moment, letting her adjust to the new sensation.
She feels his hand disappear again, and braces herself. When he slaps her the second time, it’s harder, a bright shock against her skin. The sound echoes off the Royal Chamber walls.
Jude bites her lip.
The combination of sharp pain followed by Cardan’s cool, soothing ministrations is disconcerting. She shouldn’t like this as much as she does. This pain, this yielding. Everything about it goes against her very instincts. Yet, Jude grows more desperate still.
Suddenly, Cardan delivers three consecutive strokes, hard and fast.
“A dirty.” Slap. “Mortal.” Thwap. “Liar.” Smack.
Then, he swipes two wicked fingers up the length of her heat.
Jude moans, feeling herself pulse at the unexpected sensitivity. Her hips rock back of their own volition, chasing the friction she craves.
Cardan clicks his tongue at that. “I told you to be still,” he reminds her. “Do not test my patience, sweet villain.”
Jude’s fists ball up in front of her, pulling against their binds. In her head, she slings a slew of curses at him.
He is rock hard and throbbing, pressed firmly against her hip. It is a cruel kind of torture to feel his arousal and be without the power to sate it.
She wants nothing more than to be able to touch him, to clamber up his torso and peel him out of his clothes, to feel him hot against her skin, to make him tremble under her touch.
“I’ll be still,” she gasps instead. “Please. I’ll be still.”
Cardan says nothing, only resumes his soothing circles over the rawness of her backside. After a moment, he slaps her rapidly, once on her ass and once more against her swollen folds.
Jude yelps, the contact sending a shudder through her.
The effort it takes to remain unmoving is immense. Her breath is ragged in her chest. She is positively aching, and entirely unsure when or even if Cardan will give her what she desires.
“What are you?”
“A liar,” Jude chokes out.
Cardan brings his hand down hard again, and there’s a sharp spark of commingled pleasure and pain that swells in her.
“Louder.”
“I’m a liar,” she nearly shouts.
He strikes her cunt twice more. “Wrong. Try again.”
“I’m a liar!” She wails into the carpet. “A dirty, mortal liar!”
Jude is on the verge of tears now. She has experienced pain far greater than this before, but none which has held her in such agonised suspense. Such terrible denial.
The flesh of her ass is raw as roses, dripping with the evidence of her arousal between her thighs. She feels the heated prickle of shame flood her face, and yet, she remains still, gaze glued to the floor.
“Look at you,” Cardan says, wonderment in his voice. “You are breathtaking.”
He runs a slender finger up her slit before dipping down between her folds. His finger pumps and curls inside her, feeling her inner walls. The feeling is so delectable that Jude must stop herself from arching into his touch.
Cardan hums, delighted. “You’re drenched, wife,” he says, withdrawing his hand.
A frenzied heat surges through her at the loss of contact. Jude can only manage a sobbed, “Cardan.”
Relief is a balm like no other as her husband shrugs out of his shirt and positions himself behind her, spreading her legs with his own. The sound of his zipper sets her squirming.
When he finally, miraculously, slides into her, he does so in one smooth stroke, until he is buried deep, to the hilt.
Cardan hisses as he bottoms out. But, to Jude’s dismay, he does not move. Just stays there, sheathed in her completely, savouring the feeling of her warmth around him.
Jude is keening, the soft sounds muffled by the carpet as she tries her very best not to writhe against him. Because gods, does she need that ambrosial ache. Starting in her belly and lapping up her spine until every inch of her is flooded.
“Cardan,” she grits out, fingernails digging into the rug.
“Yes, my darling god?” he says, as if he doesn’t know what could possibly be wrong. As if he doesn’t know what torments her so.
Jude swallows. This terrible anticipation makes her feel like live wires twist frenetic under her skin. She hates it.
“Cardan. Please.”
“Please, what, dear Jude?”
“Move!” Her voice is taut in her throat from all of this waiting and wanting and wondering. If Jude were not held at his mercy, she would have pinned him to the floor by now.
A sudden chill sinks in her stomach before she knows exactly why. Then, Cardan has a fistful of her hair at the nape of her neck, yanking it so that she arches further into him.
He leans down over her, making her gasp. This angle is treacherously deep.
“Unfortunately,” Cardan growls low in her ear. “I don’t take commands from lying mortals.”
Jude is perplexed by the desire his words stir up. It licks her to the quick, going against everything she thought she knew about herself.
But the fact that remains is this: Jude craves the force of his arms, the moreish knowledge of his desire, his own unmooring. It is a particular tincture of power which only Cardan can give her. And for that, she must surrender.
Abruptly, he releases her hair and in within the span of a few breaths, strikes her across the ass four times.
The hits come in rapid succession, with much the same vigor as before. Only these are more intense. Her eyes snap open.
Jude, now filled to the brim with her husband’s cock, feels every slap of his palm against her flesh as if they were jolts of electricity shooting straight through her core. They leave her nerves jangled.
She cries out, clenching around Cardan’s length as each blow lands. A low rumbling sound goes through him.
“You feel,” he rasps, voice frayed from restraint, “Utterly divine, my love.”
Jude moans but is unable to form a response. For all the world, she cannot think past the moony haze of her mind, nor the heavenly pressure in her belly. After a moment, she registers the slip of Cardan’s tail coming to wrap gently around her thigh. It is both a reassurance and a question.
All Jude can think to say, the only thing to pass from her lips is, “I love you.”
With that, Cardan is moving.
The first few strokes are achingly slow, dragging all the way out before plunging back in. They strike a match within her.
Soon, Cardan is building a rhythm, thrusts picking up speed. Jude’s pulse races in tandem. That heat in her core clambouring for purchase as she’s driven again and again into the floor.
Jude thinks about the burns her knees will have tomorrow, from this carpet, and a thrill runs through her.
She can hear Cardan’s labored breathing behind her, his little gasps and groans that make her toes curl. He is deliciously hers. The thought makes her tremble in her own delight.
The slapping sounds their joining makes drive her wild. Before she knows it, she can feel the steady rise of her release. Despite her better judgement, Jude cannot help but meet him thrust for thrust.
Cardan seems too far gone to notice his wife’s efforts. He grips her hips as he pounds into her, relentless.
But when Jude turns her head to look at him, he is somewhere else. And that simply will not do. No, Jude would have him here and now, in this moment.
She slows her pace. She wishes she could reach back and pull him to the present with her touch alone. But as her hands are bound, she cannot.
“Cardan,” Jude croons.
At the sound of her voice, Cardan’s eyes snap to hers. He blinks for a moment. Then, he’s slowing his rhythm, too.
“Oh, Jude,” he soughs, scooping her up into his arms so that they are both upright and kneeling, Jude straddling his lap. She leans back against his chest. “My sweet Jude.”
His hand goes to her clit, fingers working slow circles. The added stimulation brings forth plumous mewls from Jude. She rolls her hips in time with his ministrations, feeling the novelty of this angle.
It is the stuff of gods, what they are doing.
“Tell me again,” Cardan murmurs gruffly in her ear.
Jude knows precisely what he means by this. “I love you,” she says, swirling herself over him. He thrums into her neck, nips at her earlobes. His hips begin to buck of their own accord, rutting up to meet the tidal wave of her movements.
Over and over, she tells him. “I love you. I love you. I love you.” His mouth covers hers in a searing kiss. “I love you so much that sometimes I can hardly think of anything else.”
“Gods above,” Cardan groans and, splaying his free hand on her belly, he pushes them forward once more. He’s pounding into her, fingers flying in circles over her clit until she is all sensation. Until she is screaming.
Jude is being cleaved apart. She is trembling on high. Just as it seems her wave of pleasure will rise and rise forever, finally, it breaks.
Jude cries out her release, a jumble of “I love you’s” and Cardan’s name, echoing around the Royal Chambers as she writhes beneath him.
And with that, Cardan tips over the edge, too. With a final slam, he spills into her, shouting a string of words. Her name. Only her name. Over and over against the back of her neck like a curse as he comes.
Jude is still pulsing, shaking in the aftermath when Cardan loops his arms around her waist. He brings them both to rest on their sides, not caring at all that they are on the floor. Cardan tucks Jude into his chest.
He pulls her wrists into his hands and begins unravelling the red ribbon that binds them. Jude, for her part, feels both heavy and as if she could float away on a fog.
“Jude?” Cardan’s voice sounds from behind her.
“Hmm?” She can barely muster the energy open her lids.
“Are you aware how much I love you?”
“ ‘Course I am,” she mumbles.
Cardan looses a soft chuckle. “Liar.”
Jude’s grin is so wide, she’s sure all of Elfhame can see it.

I was genuinely surprised at how Cardan & Jude managed to control themselves in chapter 15 otherwise they were making out naked 🥵🥵🥵
well, i mean.... they did do stuff 😅🙈 like they had sex, it just wasn't penetrative (which is still sex). they were also making out, yes. but i'm not sure i would apply the term "self control" to what they did 🥴

I’ve always wanted to know your take on the legendary chapter 15. Holly confirmed through twitter that if the scene wasn’t described, it didn’t happen though I’m assuming everyone is free to have their own opinion. Some are assuming they went all the way and some think it was only oral. So, my main question is; in your perspective, did Cardan & Jude have sex in chapter 15 and what was your first reaction when you read that scene? 😂😂🥴
when i first read TFOTA it was right after i'd read ACOTAR so i kinda just assumed they went all the way. but after reading closely, it's apparent that in TWK they neither had penetrative sex, nor did they have oral sex.
"I reach over to slide my hand over the flat plane of his stomach. I don't let myself hesitate, but my inexperience is obvious. His skin is hot under my palms, against my calluses. His fingers are too clever by half."
it was hands stuff guys. hands stuff.

Honestly speaking, Cardan & Jude didn’t even have to do anything sexual in chapter 15, them making out naked was hot enough alone 🥵🥵🥵🔥🔥
