Cordaid is a member of the international Catholic networks Caritas and CIDSE and we are active in worldwide civil society networks. We work in around 30 countries in Africa, Middle East and Asia.     Job Summary: The Project Finance Officer is responsible for the financial control of projects and compliance to contractual agreements. He/She is part of the Programme team and will work in close collaboration with the finance team.     Roles and Responsibilities: Project budgets - Develops project budgets in coordination with program managers for presentations to - Makes sure that cost recovery is guaranteed and the correct Cordaid tools, data and forms are being used. - Supports the cash planning process with the Finance Manager. Financial project data and reporting - Keeps the implementation of projects in focus and assesses the financial management reports and results. - Shares this information with program managers and Finance Manager in time and appropriately when financial management does not go according to plan. - Provides timely updates to management to allow for proper communication with donors. Financial quality of partners - Guides and advises partners in such a way that they effectively and efficiently run the project reports and meet the reporting requirements. Compliance knowledge  - Supports the Finance Manager to develop, maintain, and deliver training on compliance issues to realize sufficient compliance knowledge, has a positive attitude towards compliance and improved compliance behavior. Information audits  - Supports the organization in collecting all necessary information for audits in time. Prepares the audits and ensures a high quality for accountability material. Audit related improvements  - Ensures that recommendations from in- and external audits are implemented and disseminated throughout the organization. Cost Recovery  - Ensures that his / her own costs are being recovered, either in the manhour tariffs used by Cordaid, or by charging the activities to donor contracts directly. Integrity  - Adheres to the Code of Conduct and integrity policies, reports concern and follows regular integrity training, this is a medium risk position. - Any other duties assigned by the manager. Key Result Areas  - Meeting periodic reporting to donors and respecting deadlines - Monitor the invoices submitted to donors both locally and internationally - Provide financial guidance to project and Program managers and to the partners - Compliance issues identified and responded to appropriately - Collect and share lessons learnt to colleagues and partners - Excellent audit reports, showing any actions/improvements have been implemented     Minimum Qualifications - The applicant must have Accounting knowledge (Bachelor Level or Equivalent). Professional Accounting Qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) desirable but not essential - Experience in accounting in non-government organizations - Knowledge of project management, planning & control, administrative processes, donor requirements and relevant languages - Knowledge of the mission, vision, values, goals, structure, program strategies, regions, and the strategy of Cordaid - Behavioural values and skills: trust, accountability, problem solving, cooperation, flexibility, creativity, innovative, diplomatic, results-oriented, collaboration - Social skills to realize a positive attitude towards compliance and improvements in compliant behaviour, and to accompany and direct partners with financial management of the organization and projects - Writing skills to develop training material and to define unambiguous internal agreements, and to formulate opinions on the preparation of project budgets and financial reports Competencies  - Self-motivated, proactive and result driven - Being a person with high integrity - Ability to work independently but at the same time being a team player - Ability to connect with people of diverse backgrounds - Ability to learn quickly     How To Apply for Cordaid Uganda Jobs 2022 All interested and suitably qualified candidates should submit their applications through the link below. When Afghanistan fell to the Taliban in August 2021, Amir* was terrified but hopeful. The father-of-eight had worked for a local charity in Kabul on a programme funded by the Dutch embassy which focused on women’s rights. He knew this would place him at high risk of Taliban retaliation, but he hoped the Dutch government would recognise this and evacuate him as soon as possible.

Amir’s hope of a way out increased when a few days after the fall of Kabul, the Dutch parliament voted to expand the protection policy for local personnel in Afghanistan. While previously it applied only to interpreters, now it would also include other threatened groups such as human rights defenders, journalists, fixers and “employees of Dutch development projects”, such as Amir.

However, it was not to be. Just over a week after expanding the policy, the Netherlands stopped evacuations from Afghanistan following warnings from the US military of an imminent terrorist attack on Kabul’s airport which later came to bear, killing about 180 people. Only a small number of NGO workers had managed to escape – and most of those who didn’t make it onto a flight never would. The Dutch government narrowed down the eligibility criteria considerably. It would now only apply to employees who had been working for at least a year from 2018 and held a “public, visible position”.

Amir was among those left behind and excluded from the criteria. Just over a year later he would be abducted in his own home by masked men his family say were undoubtedly members of the Taliban – and killed.

METHODS

There have been countless reported cases of abductions and deaths at the hands of the Taliban since they took power, but the security risks make them difficult to investigate and verify.

After we obtained Amir’s identity documents, as well as the correspondence showing he had tried to get onto the Dutch evacuation list, we had to do more research to understand what happened to him between his abduction and his death.

We were able to obtain information on the hospital and doctor who treated Amir, as well as a death certificate with a date and cause of death. We also got independent confirmation that Amir was not on the normal registry for patients, and was checked in “outside hospital hours”.

We also obtained internal emails corroborating claims made by Afghan employees of another Dutch NGO, Cordaid, that there was a lack of transparency and consistency in the evacuation process.

Increased intensity of typhoons and storms: Climate change is linked to more frequent and powerful typhoons and storms, bringing storm surges that damage property and endanger lives.

Erosion: Rising sea levels and stronger waves contribute to coastal erosion, jeopardizing beaches and ecosystems.

These effects can disrupt Bantayan's tourism industry, a significant source of income for the island. They can also displace residents and damage natural habitats.

Efforts are underway to address these challenges. Local governments are working on climate adaptation plans, and organizations are promoting sustainable practices.

Voor Cordaid kreeg ik de opdracht om een reportage en een korte filminterview te maken over de voedselbank Curacao. Samen met cabaretier Jandino Asporaat voerde Cordaid in mei actie voor het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk. Ook nu nog zitten velen daar zonder inkomen door het wegvallen van het toersime. Extra hulp voor de armste bevolking blijft van groot belang.

Nou ben ik betrokken met de voedselbank. Als geen andere kan ik je vertellen dat ik diep diep respect heb voor al deze mensen  die hier maanden al vrijwillig keihard aan werken ik ben ze innig dankbaar.. Er zijn namelijk zoveel mensen die honger hebben hier en helemaal sinds covid - 19 ;-)

Dit was een betaalde opdracht. De voedselbank curacao ondersteun ik net als alle vrijwilligers daar ook vrijwillig met beeldmateriaal voor hun website en social media.

2 of 100 Ways to Create a Good Ad: Mash-Ups

Mash-ups mix different things together to produce striking and sometimes even upsetting visuals. Below are some examples.

The ad above entitled “Revolution” was created by Tribal London in 2007 for the Financial Times (FT) newspaper. It mixes Che Guevarra, an icon of communism, with an icon of capitalism. 

The ad above entitled “Aftershave” was created by Saatchi & Saatchi Amsterdam (now merged with Leo Burnett NL) for development aid organization, Cordaid. It mixes images of luxury with images of poverty. 

As you can see, mash-ups do well in creating surprising visuals. If done well, mixing contrasting elements in design is effective in delivering irony. I think this technique can be especially powerful when the message is all about embracing diversity or breaking tradition and social convention. It's also a great way to get people thinking and talking.
