I think I want to learn how to crochet, but every time I’m looking up yarn and shit I keep getting flashbacks when I was eight and my mom was try to teach me how to knit and she got SO angry and frustrated that I didn’t understand how to do it ( I thought it was supposed to be easy like in the cartoons) and mom kept throwing needles and yarn across the room and was yelling. I didn’t touch yarn for over a decade after that. But this time will be different I’m a level headed individual with the patience to learn and make mistakes!

#I know knitting and crocheting are different #but that memory keeps popping up every time I look up a tutorial on crochet #rant #I want to make a scarf but I’ll start small maybe a hat first #I would like to make big plushies for me myself and I lol #crochet #knitting

Look, I finished my Front-Post Single-Crochet crochet scarf. :D

...I found out that an average scarf is actually about 7 inches wide and not 14 inches wide after I was partway through. I've never owned such a narrow scarf, though, and I'd based the size on a crochet-or-knit scarf my mom gave me a few years ago.

I had thought the seam lines would look more seamless. But they actually look kinda neat this way.

...Anyone interested in a scarf? I wouldn't mind making more. Maybe with a different color or narrower width or a different stitch pattern or without the seam lines (now that I know about how much time and how many stitches are needed).

#crochet #crochet scarf #It's made of six squares that I'd then sewn together in a looping way to mimic the stitch pattern.#One of the tassels is a fake because when I made one on the first row it looked too close to the next one so I undid it #but then I later realized I was missing one. So I tied on a little piece of yarn afterward.#It was just a little confusing to mirror that end square without mirroring the stitch pattern. I wasn't sure where the 1st tassel belonged.#I'd looked up crochet tutorials but then mostly just did my own thing. I wish there were more tutorials specifically aimed at Slightly Too Ambitious beginners

#so I got knitting needles #I'm good at following video tutorials #written crochet patterns are hit and miss and I'm not familiar enough with knitting terms to start with That #but most beginner tutorials are like how to make 5 different rectangles (but ones a scarf and ones potholders so they're Totally Different)#idk if anyone has any single afternoon projects with good instructions

i bought a skein of merino wool yarn for an in-progress project but it turned out not to match the existing yarn SO now I have fancy schmancy dark red yarn! but what do i use it for????????????????

#send help this yarn is beautiful from like an indie dyer and is like slightly gradiated but not too much #and it was a dash pricey but if i needed to buy like One More skein or two i could for a project #it's thin enough to learn to knit but do i wanna waste beautiful yarn on my first knitting attempts?#and id have to buy knitting needles too smh #i could nalbind something? ive been meaning to try spiral nalbinding a pair of mittens it looks so cool!#but again high flop potential and nalbinding does NOT unravel it would have to be cut off and thrown away #obviously not ideal for swanky yarn #tunisian crochet sounds like a lot of fun ive been watching tutorials #would have to buy needles for it tho #and also im already working on a scarf that's what it was originally for #im nalbinding a scarf #so its not ideal to start a new one #but ive tried to crochet a sweater before and run out of time/steam/yarn so a vest might be perfect #and i could give it to my sister #or make mittens for myself or my sister or somebody #what do i dooo #mio.txt #id have to find a crochet mitten pattern tho ive never made #i have a contender or two but idk if im sold
