Conveniently Yours - Epilogue
Tumblr media
Summary: You knew better than to enter a marriage of convenience with your boss’ grandson. But you wanted that senior partnership, and it wasn’t as if Jaebum was a stranger - you knew him rather intimately. It was only a year together, and then you could divorce him and achieve your biggest career goal. But would it be as simple as that?
Pairing: Im Jaebum x female reader
Genre: romance / marriage of convenience
Warnings for overall story: suggestive, swearing, mentioning of body parts and sex, a miniscule amount of angst, inequality in the workplace, a disapproving mother-in-law. In this part: that typically cliche ending trope I tend to overuse and need to stop using *coughpregnancycough*
Prompt: no prompt
Author’s note: This story is a drabble/mini series. It covers over an entire year in just eight short parts. It’s not as in-depth as this world could have been done, but I hope you enjoy it all the same.

“Mrs Im, can you please explain to me why the senior partner of my law firm is on a sudden leave?”
Smiling up at Jaebum as he entered your bedroom, you watched as your husband soaked you in silently, his eyes slowly blinking.
“You’re in bed.”
“I am.”
“You’re never in bed. What’s wrong? Did that asshole Park give you yet another migraine? I swear, we should have left him at Im and Jones. Fantastic lawyer or not, you could have partnered with anyone else in this sector.”
“Jinyoung isn’t the reason I’m in bed right now, though he wasn’t thrilled I’d be taking a leave of absence.”
“Did you hurt yourself? I told you those heels you insist on wearing are dangerous.”
You rolled your eyes, remembering the multiple times he had removed you out of everything you wore but those heels. “No, I didn’t fall. Though, I guess I better be more careful in the future.”
“I’m not following.”
“What do you think about this house here?” you asked, turning your laptop around to show Jaebum. “It has four bedrooms and a reasonably sized backyard. It could do with some renovations, which we could get done over the next few months before we can’t.”
Jaebum merely stared at you.
“I know when your grandfather asked me to sign up as your wife five years ago that he wanted great-grandchildren, and I almost laughed in his face at the mere concept. And then, when I broke out of the contract and left the firm, he wasn’t thrilled with me at all. Especially since I stole his other favourite candidate to boost my newly purchased law firm. But do you reckon he’ll forgive me for all of that in nine months’ time? Well, more like seven. It turns out that morning sickness doesn’t come as early as—”
Jaebum’s lips crashed down on yours desperately, stealing away your breath and the rest of your sentence.
You had taken the leave of absence for only a week. You knew when it came to actual maternity leave that you would be more concerned about the running of your firm. By then, though, you would have trained up your recent employee to handle your cases as you took a much-needed break from the stresses of other people’s relationships.
You needed to focus on your own a little more carefully now.
“You’re pregnant?” he finally asked when his kisses turned tentative, as if he needed to be careful with you. “I thought you didn’t possess a single maternal bone in your body?”
“Hey! I think I do okay with Mark and Tessa’s triplets, don’t you? If I can babysit three of them for an evening, I’m sure to do fine with just one of our own.”
Jaebum’s mouth tipped up. “You sure it’s just one?”
“Thankfully,” you admitted with a quick exhale that made him laugh. “I had to get it checked immediately as soon as the test came back positive.”
“And to think, you were going to give this all up after a year with me,” Jaebum teased, kissing your temple as he finally joined you on the bed. You watched him soak you in with those bedroom eyes of his, laughing silently at how they had finally gotten you in the predicament you now faced.
“You had your chance to escape back then.”
Jaebum kissed you as he shook his head slowly. “There was no way I could escape you. I was yours long before our marriage of convenience.”
“Conveniently mine?” you wondered as his hands explored your body, eliciting waves of arousal despite the first trimester fatigue you were resting at home with.
“Conveniently yours,” Jaebum agreed, kissing you again.
“I could get used to that. I mean, if this marriage needs to have a reason, it ought to be that I belong to you, right?”
“No modern woman like yourself would belong to anyone.”
“Not anyone else,” you confirmed in a whisper, staring into the eyes of the man who had loved and worshipped you for years. “But for you, I think I can negotiate that into our ongoing contract.”

How it works:
Every second month we’ll release a list of 7 prompts. They will currently be of prompts we’ve already released but in the future, we will create a different set of prompts for this challenge.
How you use the prompts is up to you. You could create a oneshot and challenge yourself to put them all in, or make it a series / a couple parts long. Whatever sparks your interest, so long as you use at least 5 of the 7 prompts in the group.
The prompts have been randomly generated together. You can order the prompts however you feel it suits your story best. It’s up to you to create a vision for how they work together.
You can alter the prompt wording slightly to suit your story if needed.
There is no time frame to get the challenge done, but admin will aim to release their content within the same month as the challenge.
Please use the tag #cwmonthly within the first 5 tags for this challenge. When participating with a series, please make sure to tag each part so we can find it and queue it to the blog.

“It’s the wrong colour.”
Your best friend smothered a laugh when you looked in her direction and away from the bakery samples. “Why, Y/N, anyone would think you actually want this wedding after all.”
“Don’t be ridiculous,” you retorted, letting out a heavy sigh. “You and I both know I don’t. But if this is the only wedding I have, then I don’t wish for snot green coloured macaroons to be served at it. Jaebum and I agreed that green would be the accent colour, but definitely not this shade.”
“You mean to tell me that you’re more committed to a life as Mrs Im than you were a month ago?”
You gritted your teeth, close to grinding down a molar. “Tessa. Come on. This is me you’re talking to.”
“I know, and the woman I have known for half my life wouldn’t sell out for a marriage of convenience just to improve her career.”
“You wound me,” you answered sardonically, tasting the macaroon all the same. It wasn’t as off-putting as its colour was. Thankfully.
“Is his dick that—”
“Teresa,” you warned, looking across the sampling gathering to Jaebum’s mother. As if she knew you were talking about her son, Jaebum’s mother glanced in your direction, smooth indifference greeting you.
You could tell the last thing she wanted to be doing on a Saturday afternoon was tasting cakes and baked delicacies for the upcoming wedding. One that she wasn’t thrilled about in the slightest.
You and her both.
“I’m not going to discuss the details of my intimacy with my future husband so liberally,” you told Tessa, her second stifled laugh making you shoot her with a glare.
She already knew too much as it was. Everyone else sitting in this room believed you were smitten with Jaebum and had been secretly dating for two years. It was easy enough to talk about the timeframe – that was how long it had been since you had chosen to be exercise buddies. Stretching the truth wasn’t too hard either whenever you were with Jaebum. He looked at you as if he wished to devour you, and the feeling was mutual. Everyone who had come across you since the ruse seemed convinced you were totally in love with the way you were always looking at each other.
Physically, there was no way to deny that. You most definitely were in love with his body.
Yet there had been no way to fool Tessa, especially since she knew that you had been fooling around with Jaebum all this time. She had also been the first person you had spoken to after the meeting with Bumsoo, and you had been far too stunned that you had actually signed the contract you threw down on her coffee table with a shrill to hide any truths. She was your best friend. Tessa had been there for all your highs and lows, and now she was not only your maid of honour, but she was also testing the waters. With everyone. You wondered how much of a headache you would have after sitting here for another hour pretending you were in love with a viper’s son.
“Where is your son today, by the way, Mrs Im?” Tessa enquired when there was a lull in the strained conversation between your mother and Jaebum’s. “Does he not like things like this?”
“He’s much too busy for little excursions, don’t you think?”
You sure as hell were busier than Jaebum was. You had stacks of case files that you’d rather hold within your hands right now than fine pastries. When you first met Jaebum’s mother, you had been honest with how important your career was to you. Perhaps that’s when her dislike for you rose. Now, you knew better than to talk about those things with her, a self-proclaimed woman of the house. She, no doubt, had a lot to teach you about the running of an Im household.
Frankly, you had zero interest in learning. It was hard enough to come to terms with losing your beloved apartment to move into Jaebum’s penthouse once you were officially his wife. So much so that you were planning to merely rent it out for the following year.
You needed to ensure you had a backup plan for when this was all over.
“Busy?” your mother echoed, glancing sympathetically at you. You’d been receiving such glances since your first family get together a month ago. She knew that you were much too independent to live under the rule of a man.
“Actually, I’d rather be here,” a new voice announced, the sensual tone sending a shiver down your spine. You didn’t get a chance to look up before you were assaulted by a woodsy floral scent invading your senses, a kiss dropped upon your crown as a warm hand slid skilfully down your back. “Hello, beautiful. What did I miss?”
God, he was too good at this. Every inch of Jaebum was suave. He commanded the attention of everyone when he entered the room, not that many had a chance to look away voluntarily. It was the reason you had found yourself underneath his hard body moaning out his name in the first place.
He was magnetic.
“You’re here?” his mother asked in surprise, her gaze flitting between you and her son as he took the empty chair beside you.
Jaebum nodded. “Why wouldn’t I be? This is my wedding I need to plan for too.” He picked up a macaroon and eyed it with distaste. “This isn’t the right colour.”
“I just said that before,” you admitted with a genuine smile, ignoring the snort that left Tessa. “But it tastes really good. Try it.”
Jaebum’s mouth hovered over your ear. “I bet not as good as you did for breakfast.”
You shot him a sharp look, the smug man shovelling the baked good into his mouth with a moan and smile that was bordering on bedroom worthy. He shot you a wink before reaching for a slice of chocolate cake next.
Perhaps being married to Im Jaebum wouldn’t be as incorrigible as you initially thought it’d be.

Staring at the man seated on the leather couch across from you, you let out a startled laugh. “I’m sorry, I must have heard you wrong. Did you just say, marriage?”
Im Bumsoo, the founding partner of Im & Jones, the biggest law firm in the city, cocked his head to the side, a bemused expression warming his features. “Is marriage such a difficult notion for you to understand?”
“With all due respect, I have no issue understanding the constitution of marriage. As you’re aware, the failure of such unions is what pays my bills.”
“Being one of the best divorce lawyers in this country doesn’t mean you’re against getting married yourself, though, does it?”
You didn’t answer right away. You didn’t see getting married as part of your grand scheme in life. It was no secret that you were great at your job, and because of that, you’d seen through more divorces in your career than you had witnessed happily wedded bliss. You didn’t have some personal traumatic experience with holy matrimony. You were simply jaded and didn’t understand why people went through with joining their lives with another just to end up in your office to sort out the destruction of such vows. But evidently, the old man before you held traditional views still.
That much was clear since he’d spoken of his terms.
“I’m not for or against. It’s not been a priority of mine to get married. Especially when I’m single. When I meet someone worth marrying, I’ll ensure you’re there to see it, Mr Im.”
“Oh, I definitely plan to be there, Y/N,” he agreed, leaning forward in his seat. “That’s the only way you’ll be getting the partnership.”
“This is misogynistic thinking, and you know it. I’m damn good at my job and would make for an excellent senior partner of this firm.”
He nodded with ease. “You’re the best divorce lawyer in this city. That’s why we snapped you up when we did, Y/N. But being a senior partner of this firm is something I’m protective of. Park Jinyoung would make for an excellent partner too.”
“He’s not married,” you pointed out, and Mr Im chuckled.
“No. No, he’s not. But he’s a wonderful candidate.”
“So, you’d want me to marry him?” you remarked, distracted by the anger coursing through you about being a woman in a male-dominated firm. When your secretary had mentioned the open candidacy for the new senior partner of the firm, you had been eager to push your name forward. You had worked hard for the last eight years for Im & Jones. You were no longer that young woman who had her foot in the door thanks to good professor connections after passing the bar. You were formidable in these halls and the courtroom. It wasn’t ego that propelled you to take this opportunity, even if you were damn good at your job and knew it too. It was about time this archaic law firm transitioned into modern society. Women were on the rise and deserved equal chances.
You had been foolish to think the older men within this law firm would readily agree with your proposal, however.
“Good grief, no,” Bumsoo chortled, reaching for the handkerchief in his suit pocket. “You and Jinyoung?! Goodness, Y/N. That’d be the quickest divorce of the century.”
“Then why is marriage a prerequisite for my application, but not his? I thought you were all about equal opportunities, Mr Im.”
“My grandson,” he announced, and even if you had the best poker face from years of experience, your nonchalance failed you then, your mouth falling ajar.
“I-I’m sorry, what?”
“I want you to marry Jaebum. He’s no stranger to you, now, is he?”
“I’ve become acquainted with him over the years,” you replied cautiously, omitting the truth. You were more than acquainted with the hard lines of Jaebum’s body. He was an excellent lover in and out of the sheets. You hoped the flashes of your last hook-up on his kitchen countertop wasn’t apparent within your eyes.
Even if Jaebum was a skilled orgasm giver, there was no other connection between you worth pursuing. He merely helped when you were stressed out.
Essentially, he was a gifted personal trainer with the types of cardio workouts he gave you.
“My grandson reminds me of you. Powerful and capable. But he doesn’t want to set down any roots. I want to see my great-grandchildren before I leave this world, and unless I make that happen by giving him a bit of an incentive, I believe Jaebum will remain an eternal bachelor.”
“Which is completely acceptable in this day and age,” you argued, unable to not get your heckles up at Bumsoo’s insinuation. Even if you wanted to get married, children were not something you readily wanted. You didn’t have a maternal bone in your body. The fact that your boss had not only diminished your professionalism by offering this scheme for a career step up, was he assuming you would just happily lay down and allow yourself to be a vessel for his great-grandchildren vision?
Obviously, he was underestimating you a great deal.
He chuckled. “Jaebum would say the same thing. See, you’d get along.”
“I seriously don’t get—”
“One year, Y/N. If you marry Jaebum, the partnership is yours. You can divorce him in a year’s time, though I’d prefer divorce not to be a part of this since I really do want to hear the pitter-patter of little feet again. Humour this old man with his wish to see his grandson married to a beautiful and successful woman.”
Every morally ruled part of you ceased up at this offer. You did not need to prove your worth like this. Absolutely none.
And yet, greed was a wicked thing. It tempted you, reminding you that a partnership in this law firm was a dream you’d held onto for some time now. If marrying Jaebum for a year could get you what you wanted and came with a year’s worth of great sex, well, it wasn’t the worst bargain you could sell yourself out for.
Still. You should be able to get this on merit alone. Park Jinyoung sure as hell would.
“It’s your turn to make a move, Y/N,” Bumsoo announced, steepling his fingers together. “I’ve laid out my cards. What do you say?”

“Easy there, Y/N,” Jaebum mentioned as he helped you inside the apartment, your legs feeling like jelly.
Giggling, you swung around in his arms and pushed him up against the wall. Your drunken kisses littered his neck and exposed chest. “This is what we do best, Jaebs.”
“Is it?” he asked, holding your hips to steady you. “I don’t think we’ve ever done this whilst you’re shit-faced.”
“Maybe I needed to get this way to forget. Maybe I needed an excuse to do this,” you answered, your voice slurred. You blinked to refocus on his handsome face and let out a heavy sigh before you stretched to kiss him.
Jaebum cupped your face with concern. “You don’t need an excuse to kiss me. You don’t need an excuse to do anything to me. I’m yours.”
“Mine?” you asked with a laugh, shaking your head. “The trust fund is yours. What will you spend it on?”
“Y/N,” Jaebum growled, running an agitated hand through his hair before capturing your gaze in a hard stare. “Did you get drunk because of us?”
“Don’t flatter yourself. I just needed a reprieve. Work’s been kicking my ass.”
“You have always used sex, not alcohol, to release stress. We could have come home and made love instead of you downing all that wine. Had I known you were a lightweight, I would have stopped you after the second glass.”
“We could still have—wait. What did you just call it?” you asked, frowning as you tried to rewind the words Jaebum had used. You had to be drunk if you had heard him say what you thought he had.
You laughed again, bordering on hysteria. You needed to let this go. There was only a handful of days left of the contract and after that…
You didn’t want to think that far ahead. Your head was swimming, and what you needed was water. Lots of it. And probably a permanent spot on the bathroom floor next to the toilet. Your stomach roiled with the bitter tang of the aftermath of too much wine, and you grasped your head in a hand, moaning lightly.
“I don’t feel so good.”
“No, I didn’t think you would after all that,” Jaebum stated, letting out a heavy breath as he leaned you against the wall before disappearing from your side. You grew cold instantly, rubbing your hands over your arms. Blinking, you wondered why your sleeveless dress had now grown sleeves. Holding out your arms, you marvelled at Jaebum’s jacket, the cuffs folded up, so your hands stuck out the end. You didn’t even remember when he put this on you, but the gesture now touched you infinitely, a noisy gasp leaving you.
Jaebum returned before you could say anything, slipping a glass of water into your hand. “Time to sober up, beautiful.”
“You’ve always called me that,” you mused in between sips, smiling sadly. “I like it.”
“I’ll always call you that.”
“Was my body such a good deal to receive?”
“Let’s not talk about this right now. You’re drunk, and you’re not going to remember a word I say.”
“I remember everything you say,” you refuted petulantly, and Jaebum cocked his head to the side. “What?! I do.”
“Baby, you either have one wicked sense of acting like you don’t hear me, or you really aren’t listening.”
“I’m listening now.”
Jaebum swallowed awkwardly, his gaze catching yours. There was that vulnerable look you had been noticing a lot lately. Your forehead creased in thought, wondering why he looked so nervous around you. He had always been the most confident man you knew. “Y/N, I—”
Holding up a hand suddenly, you then covered your mouth, racing into the bathroom, barely making it to the toilet before you heaved up all that was in your stomach. You groaned, gripping the porcelain as all the wine and misery in your stomach came up violently.
You startled when a hand gently patted you on the back before running up and down it soothingly, the other gathering your hair away from your face. Tears sprang up in your eyes. “Go. This is embarrassing.”
“This is vomit, Y/N. It’s not the worst thing in the world. You need me.”
You need me. Three words that you clung to as tightly as the toilet you were throwing up in, hoping that you could somehow find a way to need him even after the contract came to a close.
Tumblr media
Groaning as your head thumped badly, you peeked through one eye before the other, testing how bright the morning light would be. Normally Jaebum drew the curtains open when he went to the gym, knowing you would wake up not much longer. However, the room was still dark, and you turned your head lazily to the side, peering at the digital clock.
It was nine in the morning.
Blinking slowly, you then looked around yourself, seeing the signs of last night. Your clothes were discarded in the laundry basket, Jaebum’s jacket strewn on a chair next to his pants. As you tried to wet your mouth and remove the desert upon your tongue, you spotted the stool next to your side of the bed housing a bowl and face cloth, and the medication with some water on your nightstand. Allowing your gaze to turn to Jaebum’s side of the bed, you found him sprawled on his stomach, his face pressed into his pillow with exhaustion.
You had kept him up half the night as you recovered from your drunkenness.
Groaning again, you sat up slowly, realising one of his arms was over your waist in the process. It tightened around you as you moved, and by the time you were seated against the headboard, Jaebum’s eyes were searching your face with concern.
“Sorry about last night.”
“Want to talk about it?” he asked huskily, propping an elbow upon his pillow to support his head as he stared at you. “No, actually, there needs to be a talk about this. You’ve been dancing around the topic for weeks now, Y/N.”
“The topic?”
Jaebum nodded. “About this marriage of ours.”

Biting back a scowl, you nudged the man beside you. “Stop it.”
“Stop what?” he asked with feigned innocence, Jaebum’s smile brightening his face before he waggled his eyebrows. “I’m just helping my pregnant wife do some shopping.”
“I cannot believe she actually used it this time!” you exclaimed, uncaring that your voice had risen to the octave it had, and nearby shoppers turned to look at you. Giving your husband a measured glance, you then huffed indignantly. “I am not pregnant! What will she do at the next event when I’m there and not showing even the slightest of a baby bump?”
Jaebum’s grin was uncontained. “We could change that.”
“Don’t mock me. I couldn’t make it this time because of that crazy court case extending well into the evening. It’s not a bad thing to have a lawyer as a daughter. My parents proudly tell everyone. Why not tell the truth?”
“That you’re a badass lawyer who’s married more to her job than her husband? I doubt my mother would ever care to admit that out loud. She would see it as a stain on her reputation. You know what she’s like, Y/N.”
You stopped pushing the trolley, staring at Jaebum’s side profile. He noticed your halt a second later, turning back to watch you curiously. You frowned. “Am I that bad to be shackled to?”
“What?”
“You just said I’m more involved with my career than you. Is that how you see us?”
“No,” he said as he backtracked to your side. “I knew you were career-driven when we agreed to all this. It’s why you married me, after all.”
That didn’t ease you at all. Blinking several times, you looked at the trolley and shoved it along with a little more force than needed. You felt wrong, and you didn’t like it. The past ten months hadn’t felt like this. Sure, you bickered a lot in the first few months, but you were accustomed to Jaebum’s ways now. He was more than just your living companion. You spent more time with him than anyone else in your life. You had believed that mattered.
To him. To you.
And it did. You stopped again in the aisle, blinking more slowly. Somewhere, you had become attached to Jaebum. That was why the growing unease in the pit of your stomach hurt as much as it did. You were disappointed, though you couldn’t tell with who more. Yourself, for losing sight of what this scheme was, or with him, for thinking so little of you.
“Y/N,” Jaebum called, a warm hand cupping your jaw suddenly. You flinched out of your thoughts, spotting the hurt within his eyes at your physical reaction. You didn’t like that either. You were both entangled with the other, and now, after all these months and so close to the finish line of the year together, it had gotten messy. You hated how ugly this all was feeling.
“I just think she shouldn’t have used that. I’m not pregnant. And although a baby has never existed inside me, I don’t think it’s something to lie about. Do you know what some of the most heartbreaking moments of my job have been? Over infertility. I’ve had clients sob in my office about their significant partner wanting a divorce over the taxing nature of not having children. Some are crueller. Some of these men leave their partners because of no birthed offspring within a couple of years of marriage. Love is such a fickle creature, huh?”
You sniffled, closing your eyes when you realised how worked up you were over this. You didn’t want to admit you were in similar shoes to your clients. You didn’t need love in this relationship. Especially so close to the expiration date. You needed to get your head clear and back in the game.
But when you opened your eyes again, Jaebum was staring at you sadly. It confused you, and you merely stared back at him, unsure if you wanted to know what was turning over in his thoughts right now.
“I’ve enabled her to upset you. I’ll fix this.”
You shook your head. “We’ll just lose the imaginary baby. I’m sure the sympathy she’ll reap will make it better.”
Jaebum’s eyes grew hard. “No. You’re right. The truth is better.”
“The truth,” you agreed weakly, forcing a smile before returning to your shopping.
You didn’t know what the truth was anymore.
Tumblr media
“Your eyes are indecent.” Looking sharply at Tessa, you then turned to see who she was talking to. Jaebum merely smirked. “If my husband looked at me that hungrily after a year of marriage, I’d be thrilled. I think Mark only gets that excited when I bake him cookies.”
“I do not. I look at you lovingly all the time.”
“My eyes are indecent?” Jaebum wondered, stepping to your side and shooting you a questioning look. “Baby, what’s wrong with my eyes?”
“Ignore Tessa. She’s just stirring where it’s not needed,” you remarked, chastising your friend with a warning look. “Besides, it’s not been a year quite yet.”
“Counting down the days to your first anniversary?” Mark wondered, and Jaebum picked up his drink off the bar table, taking a sip before gazing back at you.
“Every second, more like.”
Tessa laughed. “How you haven’t combusted over this past year with him, I’m equal parts amazed and impressed, Y/N.”
“You are very smooth, Jaebum, but I highly doubt I’m on your mind every second of the day. And can we please get back to the real reason we’re out celebrating tonight? It’s about you two! Securing your first home together is seriously a big deal. I’m so happy for you both.”
“Thanks, Y/N,” Mark said as he clinked his beer bottle against the side of your wine glass. “It’s been a long time coming, but after five years of marriage, we can finally say city living will no longer bother us. Suburban life, here we come.”
“Next will be two kids and a dog?” Jaebum offered, and Mark grinned.
“We’ve got the dog already,” Tessa reminded, slipping a hand over Mark’s waist, and cinching it in her grip, staring up at her husband adoringly.
You felt a sharp pull in your chest at that look. Whilst Jaebum was the master of bedroom eyes, this was how you wanted to stare at someone and be on the reciprocating end of too. Clutching the glass in your hand at the realisation, you downed what remained in one go, signalling to a bartender for a refill.
You only had mere weeks left until this intoxicating confusion would reach its culmination.

Conveniently Yours - Part 3
There’s a small argument in this one.
Prompt: “Can’t you just take it slowly?” – for the @challengingwords January monthly challenge -- I altered it by adding an extra word.
Author’s note: This story is a drabble/mini series. It covers over an entire year in just eight short parts. It’s not as in-depth as this world could have been done, but I hope you enjoy it all the same.
Word count: 1027

“Fuck. Why is there no zipper?” Jaebum’s gruffness made you whimper as his hands tugged on the confusing laces of the bodice to your dress. You attempted to reach around to help, but his lips attached to your bare shoulder, leaving a series of frustrated kisses in their wake. Your attention now fixated on his debauched mouth, hands fisting fabrics of your wedding gown.
“Can’t you just take it off slowly?” you wondered breathlessly, receiving an impatient grunt in response. You knew just how eager Jaebum was to be buried inside you. Heck, you had longing to get to this point of your wedding night for hours now. You thought you had seen Jaebum at his most attractive state before – completely naked and hazed by your wicked hip ministrations. However, there was something about that tux of his that had your heart stumbling over itself as soon as you took your first step down the aisle. You had conflicted feelings about him taking it off. You wanted nothing more than to have your husband bare before you in a matter of seconds, yet you couldn’t help but marvel at how handsome he looked right now with his bedroom eyes and dishevelled suit.
If being physical was all that was needed in a long-lasting relationship, you and Jaebum were set for life.
“I want you out of this now.”
“Don’t you like it?” you asked, your back bowing into him when his teeth scraped your skin in a playful nip.
“Baby, you made the most beautiful bride. But now I want access to my incredibly sexy wife, and she’s hidden under way too many poofy layers.”
“I suppose I should tell you there’s a zip along the side of the bodice,” you mentioned slyly, earning yourself another curse as hands felt for the invisible opening. Once discovered, it was hastily yanked upon, your gown dropping to the floor around your white heels.
Instead of continuing with the hasty removal of your white lacy undergarments, Jaebum walked around you slowly, revelling in you. He had already tugged off his tie and loosened the buttons of his shirt, but as his molten stare soaked you in, you could tell he was getting a little too hot under all those clothes. You smirked. “Now it looks like you have too many clothes on.”
“Don’t you dare remove a thing,” he warned, shucking off his jacket to the closest hotel chair, his hands now on the green waistcoat and pulling at the buttons. “You know, when my grandfather told me about this scheme of his, I was totally against the exchanging of vows to get access to that trust fund. I didn’t need his money any time soon. I have my own. But now, I don’t have a care for what I gained from his requirements. If this is what I get to look forward to every day for the rest of my life, then I’ll gladly donate every cent in your name just to worship you over and over.”
“Stop talking and start acting on that worshipping,” you demanded lustfully, a guttural groan leaving the man as he launched himself at you, carrying you all the way over to the bed, gasps and moans soon echoing off the walls.
Tumblr media
Your mutual gains didn’t make for a stress-free marriage, though. Sure, the sex was just as amazing, perhaps even better, as it had been before you agreed to this. You didn’t have to wait for free time in his schedule to match yours for a hook up after a shitty day in the office anymore.
Every surface of your penthouse apartment had been christened more than once by your insatiable need for one another.
It was when you weren’t locked in each other’s embrace that reminded you why this had to last only for a year. Where you were messy, he was tidy. His daily habits didn’t align with yours, and more often than not, you were always in a disagreement about something.
You knew these signs well enough. You had mediated between hundreds of couples to know that opposites didn’t always match. Attraction only lasted so long before marriages broke apart and ended up in your office. Although it was only two months into your marriage, and it was more than understandable that teething issues would occur, you were getting fed up with living with someone else. Especially when certain someone had an opinion about everything you did or didn’t do.
“Seriously? You’re going to eat all that before bed?”
You glanced up from your stash of cake, cookies, and a bag of chips to frown at Jaebum. “Every morsel.”
“You’re going to get indigestion again.”
“So?”
“Last time you farted so much in your sleep that--”
Stepping into your husband’s space, you poked him right in the chest. “Finish that sentence, I dare you.”
“I don’t want to need a gas mask in bed, Y/N.”
“Don’t worry. You won’t be in bed with me, Jaebum! You can go sleep with all your damn cats.”
“Jealous, are we?”
“Oh yes,” you proclaimed with a roll of your eyes. “Intensely.”
“I’m worried about all that sugar. You need to eat better.”
“What you eat is disgusting. We hardly have a single food we like in common. Leave me to my junk and sugar, and don’t worry, husband, any health issues I may face because of it won’t be your concern or duty to support me through.”
Jaebum folded his arms across his chest. “You’re ridiculous when you’re in a mood. You know that, right?”
“And you’re too set in your ways and expect me to convert to them like you’ve rocked me enough into ecstasy that I should follow every step of your life plan. Remember, Jaebum, I’m far too independent to tame.”
“Like I’d really want to tame that fire of yours,” he muttered, appraising you for a second before shaking his head and walking into the spare room.
You grumbled incoherently, looking down at your snacks and glaring back at the door he was behind. You were going to eat it all.
Indigestion and irksome husband be damned.

You stared at Jaebum before a hoarse coughing fit took over, your hand thumping on your chest to dislodge it. You wondered if you could remove the lump that was forming in your throat with how hard you were coughing too.
Sitting up, Jaebum reached over you for the bottle of water on the nightstand and handed it to you. Nodding in silent gratitude, you took a couple of harsh gulps before the desire to cough eased. You gripped the bottle in your hands, unsure of what to think or say.
“Y/N,” Jaebum started, and you willed your eyes to look at him. He looked nervous momentarily before squaring his jaw. “Do you want to divorce me?”
“It was part of the plan,” you replied, feeling like a coward as you looked away. Your mouth was dry already, and you took in more of your water, hoping it would fill the space where he was waiting for you to continue.
Jaebum sighed heavily. “I’m asking if you want to divorce me. If that’s the end game for you.”
“Is it for you?” you whispered, blinking back your rising emotions. Gnawing on your bottom lip, you choked on your next words. “I wasn’t prepared for this.”
“For what?”
“You,” you confessed, blurrily looking through your tears at your husband. At the man you had come to love after spending all this time together. The laughter, the differences, the bickering, you had come to enjoy it all at his side. Jaebum excited, challenged, and accepted you. All this time, you believed it was because of mutual benefits. You would get your career promotion, and he would be a whole lot richer. But as you thought through the past few months, you found yourself uncaring of the senior partnership. You spent more time planning what you’d do with Jaebum and what foods you’d be willing to compromise on so he would share the same meal with you. You thought about him when you were out shopping for clothes, picking up things you wanted to see him. You had watched all your favourite movies together and had more to share with him.
A year wasn’t enough time. It would never be enough.
Jaebum seemed to guess all that was running through your head, a smile spreading across his lips. “Don’t divorce me. I don’t want this to end just yet. If ever.”
“But—”
“You know what happened to get us in this whole predicament?” Jaebum asked, and before you could respond, his index finger pressed against your lips. “An old man listened to his grandson drunkenly tell him how in love he was with the woman he was sleeping with. For some reason, he took it upon himself to make a bargain with that woman, one that would catch her attention. By that time, I was more than lucid and angry as hell with him for even putting that on you. That senior partnership was already rightly deserved. You didn’t need to service me to get that. But before I could even refute it, you agreed to the terms, and suddenly you becoming mine was a reality.
“God, Y/N, I was a fucking fool. I should have told you no. That I wanted to do this the right way. With you saying yes to me, not to my grandfather. But every time I went to broach the topic before our wedding, you would smile sweetly at me, and all I could think about was how you would learn to love me back. That if we were together for an entire year, you could see just how much I cared about you, and we’d get to this point and be laughing at how different our story together had begun. Instead, you’ve been miserable and—”
“I’m in love with you,” you cut in, swallowing back your emotions and nodding your head when Jaebum gaped at you. “I didn’t even see it coming. I just got comfortable with you. I found myself looking forward to every moment with you. The physical chemistry slipped into something more without me realising it and when I finally started to see that I was falling in love with you, I started to panic. We had always said about the year limit, and I didn’t know how to suddenly ask for a renegotiation.”
Jaebum laughed heartily. “You cannot take the lawyer out of you. A renegotiation. Fuck, I love you.”
“Last night, you said you would have made love with me. I heard you say that, right?”
“I’m amazed you remember that. I’ve been whispering that into your ear for months now.”
“Don’t whisper it anymore. Don’t hold back from it at all. Of course, there’s a small part of me that’s annoyed that you were in on the deal your grandfather gave me—”
“Not willingly, might I remind you. I had no idea until he threw the signed contract down on my coffee table.”
You gave Jaebum a look before leaning in to cup his face. “All those looks you’ve been giving me.”
“The indecent ones, so Tessa calls them?”
“You were looking at me like I was yours.”
“You are mine. Right?”
You smiled. “Yeah, I’m yours. Wait. You can’t kiss me.”
“Excuse me? I should be able to kiss my wife whenever I want to,” Jaebum refuted, but you jerked back. He eyed you warily.
“I was throwing up last night. I bet my breath is atrocious and—mmph!”
“Don’t care,” he mumbled into your mouth, kissing you lazily. “Married life means we are comfortable with each other in any situation.”
“Any situation?” you echoed, and Jaebum hummed against you. “Jaebum, I want to ask you how comfortable you are in disappointing your mother.”
“You hate those events, and for an entire year, you obediently went to them. For me.”
“I’m not going anymore,” you announced, and Jaebum grinned.
“Thank God. I never went to them as much as I have as a married man, and I’m sick of them.” You gaped at Jaebum, who grinned and tapped you playfully on the nose. “Oh, and that trust fund of mine? I’ve invested the money already.”
“Did you really have to get married to access the money?” you wondered, and Jaebum sighed as he nodded. “Wow. I was wondering if it actually existed since you didn’t need an incentive to marry me.”
“My grandfather organised it long before I was an adult. I knew about it but assumed I’d never see a cent of it. Marriage wasn’t exactly on the cards for me for some time. And when I did gain authority over it, I didn’t want a dime of it.”
“Jaebum, that was a lot of money. We could have bought a house with it,” you breathed out exasperatedly, blinking dazedly when he kissed you again.
“I bought you something better with that money.”
“What?”
“Your career,” he announced, and you regarded your husband curiously.

“It’s been six months already?!” the gaudy woman crooned, and you shot her a polite smile as you placed a hand over Jaebum’s chest. Your wedding ring glinted under the lights, and she eyed it for a moment before forcing another laugh at your mother-in-law standing on the other side of Jaebum. “I would have never thought I’d see the day that someone would settle your boy down.”
“I wouldn’t say I’ve settled him down,” you interjected sweetly, gazing into Jaebum’s eyes with excessive admiration.
His lips twitched with subtle humour.
“There is no need to tame a man, is there? It’s a modern world, and if I didn’t love the capable man that my husband was before I married him, then I wouldn’t have let him put a ring on my finger. And believe me, he’s very capable in many areas of his life.”
“You flatter me when really I’m the luckiest man around, Y/N,” Jaebum commented, brushing his lips against your forehead.
God, you hated these events his mother insisted upon hosting. Time after time, you would find yet another charity event or glitz and glam night scheduled into your calendar. You hardly had time to keep up appearances with your own parents and closest friends, let alone attend monthly nights out under the Im family name. Somehow, your boss seemed to get away with telling everyone he was far too busy solving law cases to attend, whilst you, with an impressive load of work on your shoulders, must ensure to turn up to every time.
You hated how socialites held so many double standards.
“Don’t worry, beautiful, I’ll get you out of here soon enough,” Jaebum breathed into your ear when you both finally made your way over to the buffet table. You looked at the choices of food and sighed. You didn’t like your chances of eating something tonight.
Jaebum chuckled. “I’ll go through a drive-thru on the way home too.”
“There’s no need to talk dirty to me, Mr Im. I’m already yours,” you teased, leaning into his side as Jaebum picked up a cracker with some questionable looking paste on top.
“Are you just? I guess I’m just that capable, huh?”
“You almost died of laughter. Admit it,” you stated, gazing at Jaebum as he fought not to give you any satisfaction. “Come on, don’t tell me you enjoy these parties. It’s just a bunch of rich people standing around trying to outwit the other. Goodness me, how dare someone else do better in life than you and your family?! Your mother looked as if she was going to proclaim I was pregnant just to outdo that one insistent woman that said her daughter-in-law was superior to me.”
“No one is more superior than you. Trust me. You’ve got everything going for you, Y/N.”
You smirked at him. “Spending all night with these fancy folk has you easily spouting off untruths. I’m who I am, and I like that. I don’t need to have credentials in any area aside from my career. I’m a working woman. I don’t care about having a child before a certain age or what colour schemes I’m going to use when I next renovate our apartment only months after the last one like this lot do.”
“Watch it, Y/N. Some might say you’re speaking out of turn.”
Your eyebrow arched in response. “Am I?”
“The fact that you don’t fake anything is the reason I like you as much as I do,” he answered, and you blinked slowly, wondering why your heart was fluttering at that statement. Jaebum held your gaze for a moment too long, looking more vulnerable than he’d ever been in front of you. Smoothing his face out, he leaned into your ear again. “I bet half these women fake their orgasms with their partners. That’s never something I have to doubt when it comes to you.”
Tumblr media
“Are you really wearing that?” Glancing up at Jaebum’s question, you watched as his expression softened. “Are you alright?”
“I’m exhausted. I spent nine hours with a pretentious lawyer and his client fighting with my client over chinaware. When we get divorced, you can keep every bit of china we got at our wedding. I don’t want any of it if that’s how it goes.”
Slumping down on the couch beside you in his dress shirt and slacks, you eyed Jaebum with your head cocked to the side. You groaned loudly. “Oh God. Not another event.”
“Charity for the Children’s hospital,” Jaebum mentioned, his hand sliding under both your bare calves and lifting them over his lap as he scooted closer. He started to massage them, and you threw your head back into the cushions, your eyes shutting with a whine.
“What was the last one?”
“For the pet shelters across the city,” he reminded, and you nodded.
“I didn’t see a single dog or cat there.”
“We almost witnessed a catfight, though. I thought Mrs Kim was going to throw Mrs Jung down in front of us all.”
“It was a particularly entertaining night,” you agreed, peeking out of one eye at Jaebum. “I don’t know if I have it in me to get dolled up.”
“You could go like this. I won’t mind one bit,” he replied with a chuckle, his eyes travelling over your tank top and sleep shorts.
“I’m sure that’ll smooth over just fine in the papers tomorrow.”
“We’ll give them a headline worth writing into the social circles.”
Sharing a grin, you groaned heavily and tried to swing your legs down off his lap. Jaebum’s hands merely gripped your calves, holding you there. “What are you doing? I have to go get ready.”
“Let’s skip it.”
You eyed him carefully. “Your mother will be in fits without you there to show off to everyone.”
“You’re not up to it, so we can order in some Chinese and watch a movie instead.”
“Who are you and what have you done with my husband?” you wondered with a giggle, Jaebum’s hands sweeping up and down your legs. You sighed contentedly. “You’ll really face the wrath of your mother for not turning up just because I’m too tired?”
“I’ll tell her you’re unwell, and I’ve got to look after you.”
“She’ll then tell everyone I’ve got wicked morning sickness and that it’s not official yet but that we’re pregnant, Jaebum!”
He laughed. “Well. It looks like we’ll be playing our part without even turning up tonight.”

Monthly Challenge - July
Tumblr media
We came up with the idea of creating a monthly challenge with previous prompts and after taking a month off in June, we’re back at it for the second half of the year! Please note: we will continue to post new prompts every fortnight alongside with the monthly challenge.
How it works:
Every second month we’ll release a list of 7 prompts. They will currently be of prompts we’ve already released but in the future, we might create a different set of prompts for this challenge.
If we haven’t reblogged your creation within 48hrs of being posted, please contact @prettywordsyouleft or @this-song-thats-only-for-you for help
