Ariane
Her clan’s best hunter.
I had the urge to draw my favorite Dragon Age warrior in her fully tricked-out Dalish armor as seen in Heroes of Dragon Age. <3

Immy for the Dragon Age OC questions thing:
Essentials: 2 and 3! Life: 2, 4, 6, and 12! Party: 6 and 7! And Codex: 4!
Thank you sm ❤️
Essentials
2. What class do they belong to? How did they initially train and learn their skills?
Immy is a mage! Since she was being trained for to be the Keeper, Immy didn't know much offensive and combat magic. She knew spells to defend herself, but was not combative in the beginning. She learns more combat magic from Vivienne and Dorian, and from Commander Helaine when Immy became a Knight-Enchanter.
3. What race do they belong to? What are their opinions on the other races of Thedas?
Immy is a Dalish elf!
- Immy is always the most cautious around humans at first (because you know lol), it's why sometimes Cullen (her fave shemlen) will be with her if she feels unsafe around a human initially. She will fully trust a human once she gets to truly know them (the Rutherfords, her friends from the Inquisition). The first humans Immy fully trusted were the fog warriors because they kept her clan safe from Tevinter slavers.
- Sort of off-lore, but Immy is most familiar with Qunari. Her clan is from Seheron so she has met and befriended Qunari there before her clan left. Bull became one of her friends easily (despite him being wary of the magic thing) because they bonded over Seheron. Immy also helped Bull be less afraid of magic because ~Friendship is Magic (lol)
- Immy didn't know much about dwarves until she met Varric and other dwarves in the Inquisition. Her clan came across some surface dwarves and traded with them, but Immy didn't really feel one way or another - she found it interesting to learn about Dwarven castes.
Life
2. What social class were they born into? How did it affect their upbringing?
There were really no social classes in Immy's clan, nor does it really apply to Dalish Elves, but it can be said she grew up somewhere that valued community. Her clan was pretty much "the village" in "it takes a village". While she didn't get along with everyone, Immy's way of living is more community-minded, so being Inquisitor to her felt weird because there were things that were only for a certain group of people.
4. Describe their family. Who were they close to? Were there any particular childhood friends?
Immy is from a family of four, her mom Adrila, dad Thrilan, and older brother Iefyr. She's the closest to her dad as they're both mages and he nurtured Immy's softness and her love for alchemy. They're also both very squishy people lol - she looks more like him. Immy's childhood friends are another Danae, another mage and Liranael, a hunter. Immy and Liranael ended up being together for bit but she broke it off with Immy after some time, which left Immy incredibly broken-hearted and sadly ended their friendship.
6. Which aspects of the culture they were born into holds the most significance for them?
Community! Immy is used to always having that strong community in her clan. It's why it was so incredibly depressing for her when she first got to Haven, she felt isolated and it seemed like people were more individualistic when it came to things. Immy was used to being someplace where people would come cook and bring meals to someone who was sick, or where people got together to make sure kids were watched.
12. How efficient are they with things like crafting potions or repairing their own armor?
Immy is an expert at potions, she even sort of had a friendly rivalry with Adan about it. Repairing armor was new to Immy, and didn't know much about it. Cassandra (and Cullen ❤️) helped her learn quick fix-its but she'd rather bring it to Dagna or Harritt if it was something too big to fix by herself.
Party
6. Do they have a love interest? How did their relationship start?
Cullen ❤️❤️❤️ (lol). It was a bit of a slow-burn, Immy definitely did not trust Cullen at first. They ended up meeting a lot at the gardens and ramparts at Skyhold because Immy has bouts of insomnia and Cullen was struggling with nightmares. They began talking and they just clicked...and became very good friends (and Immy was like "oh he's cute 😳). Cullen then joins Immy during a month-long mission at the Western Approach and that's how they realized they were in love. During the mission to the Shrine of Dumat, Cullen saves Immy from a Red Templar Shadow and gets badly injured. Immy helps ease the pain later by performing a healing spell later and they confess their feelings and kiss.
7. How did their relationship progress? If they’re a canon romance option, is their story different from the way the game presents it?
The love confession is much different than in the game, like I answered above, their relationship begins as a friendship first and the love confession finally happens when Immy helps heal Cullen. They don't end up together until they're sure they love each other.
Codex
4. How do they feel about the Fade, spirits, and demons?
Immy did study a bit about the Fade during Keeper training, and while she doesn't mind spirits too much, she is incredibly cautious and nervous around demons. While Immy has decent control over her magic, she's someone who feels deeply and strongly - she can get emotional and she knows that's something demons can feed on. So she treads lightly with it.

OC Questions
This got v long lmao. Ty for sending questions, I always love to yap abt my fave girl, and I think I answered some lore about Immy I haven't posted about yet ❤️

1 and 9 for all of them!
Hi Mo! :D
Thanks for asking! A premise for number 9: I firmly believe that there's something of the author in every character, so I'll just listen what they got from me.
Tis the prompt list
1. What was the first element of your OC that you remember considering (name, appearance, backstory, etc.)?
Alyra: as above, time has passed and I don't remember much. I recovered her character because I liked the way she looked. I think it was the race, I remember I spent A LONG TIME back them deciding on the background. Raina: Her class. I didn't want to play another rogue, but then I remembered my one failing try with a mage in DAO and the Warrior armor wasn't as pretty as the rogue one. (she was born in trash and kept living in it.) Garrett: "Ok, I want to try the Fenris romance WITH A BLOOD MAGE." (sorry Fenris.)(But it worked out so there's that? They're happy growing pumpkins now) Aisling: "I want another Dalish whose character is the opposite of Alyra, this time.". Basically, I decided she would be a cinnamon roll first. Radha: The Dirthamen vallaslin. it looks very cool. Also, since my characters tend to be chatty, I wanted one that on the contrary speaks very, VERY little. Max: The name! I wanted a masculine nickname that's short for something quite embarrassing for the character. Hence she's named Maxine. She'll say it's a dog name and she hates it, but that nonetheless she got lucky because grandpa wanted to name her Jolene and that reference is too much on the nose.
9. Are they based off of you, in some way?
Alyra: I was told I can be indimidating when I am pissed off, but I don't think I reach her levels, LOL. I do blink. Raina: She won the lottery as the character I do the most self-inserts. Beside the family, she won the lottery of sarcasm and being a mental wreck with zero self-esteem and a good façade of one. I don't eat stuff off the ground tho, I swear. Garrett: Surely not the green thumb nor the love for pumpkins. I'm chill like him. Aisling: "I'm fine :) " said as I'm having an anxiety attack. Being chatty and unable to hold a poker face. I would like to say I'm not a horse girl, but my instagram feed thinks otherwise. Radha: The love for reading and catching on, and vaguely the "no shit taken" attitude. Max: She got my taste for oldies and '80s rock, and well. Being Italian.

Here's all three of them together!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
[Image description: three digital drawings of Dragon Age OCs. The first is of a dwarf commoner warden. She is shown from the armpits up, leaning in towards the viewer, arms partially forward, while she looks to her right and smiles with her brow partially furrowed. She is wearing faded-looking leather armor with metallic shoulder guards. Her red hair is partially braided back and grows slightly darker in her bushy eyebrows, thin beard, and mustache. She has a casteless brand on her right cheek, in addition to geometric tattoos on her left cheek and above her left eyebrow. Her open smile shows a missing tooth. She has two small scars on her chin to the left of her mouth. In the background, four daggers fan out pointed toward her, and the words "Can I get you a ladder?" appear next to her.
The second image is of a mage Champion of Kirkwall. He is shown from the hips up, looking warily over his left shoulder at something behind him. His right hand is holding an intricately carved wooden staff topped with a purple gem. His left hand pushes up the sleeve of his right arm, revealing his forearm. Blood streams out in rivulets that magically curl around his staff and spiral above its top. He is wearing a simplified version of the default Hawke armor He has a smear of blood across his nose. His blonde hair is tucked behind his ears. He has a full equally blonde beard. His eyes are narrowed and one of his brows is raised like he's curious. In the background are faint blue blood splashes. Next to his head are the words "Foul and corrupt are you / Who have taken My gift / And turned it against My children" Below the quote is an attribution to "-Transfigurations 18:10".
The third image is of a Dalish warrior Inquisitor. Isiik is shown from the waist up, looking warily to the side and crouching slightly. In his right hand, he holds his sword angled up and ready to attack. His left hand is braced out in front of him, the mark glowing a bright green. He is wearing a purple scarf, a dark purple jacket with puffy sleeves, high-waisted brown pants, and a pale yellow shirt. He has a shield on his back, the strap of which crosses his chest. He is wearing a glove missing its pointer and thumb fingers on his right hand. His dark reddish-brown hair is mostly pulled back in a short ponytail. He has Dirthamen's vallaslin, which has smooth, flowing lines across his forehead, cheeks, chin, and along the length of his nose. He is frowning slightly and his brow is furrowed. His long elfin ears are nearly perpendicular to his head, causing him to appear slightly nervous or on edge. He has a pale scar that goes across his lips, bisecting some of the vallaslin on his chin. In the background, faint green lightning fans out from the mark. Next to his head are the words "wow this place is a freakshow. i dont respect literally any of you people." Below the quote is an attribution to "-Neopets User, 2017". End of Image Descriptions.]
These were very very very fun to do!! The prospect of getting to replay the series is what got me through the end of the semester ngl. Enjoy these dingdongs :]

Dalish Redux 2: Cold Weather Gear
There’s not enough cold weather fashion in fantasy and that is honestly such a travesty. These designs were partially inspired by the Nenet people of northern Sibera and related Samoyed peoples. They’re reindeer herders, which I felt was thematic for cold weather Dalish inspiration. The other main references that I used were Mongolian, Tibetan, Kazhk, and Russian folk costumes.
The shoes are a cross between plains moccasins, Inuit boots, and a style of Mongolian boots known as Gutuls. I love the shape of Gutuls and how wide they are, but the beading on North American moccasins is just so beautiful and I wanted to reference it. It wouldn’t actually be practical in the snow and finding the materials would be near impossible in a true tundra climate, but the Dalish are nomadic so I do what I want nyeh.
That being said, Native American beaded moccasins are some of the most incredible pieces of art and do not get talked about nearly enough. The beads were made of natural rock like coral and jasper, whatever was around really, and making beads out of rocks, especially to the size used by Native American tribes, is phenomenally hard. The effort and craftsmanship that goes into making even a singly piece of jewelry is no joke.
Material-wise, outer clothes would be fur-lined buckskin with silk thread embroidery from the halla fur. I will be using the fact that Halla have silk fur liberally during this project. Armor is leather, as usual, and the trousers would all be buckskin. Scarves, sashes, and underlayers would be silk, felt, and wool cloth, probably boiled which technically makes it a kind of felt but whatever. Fun fact, felt is made by a combination of pressure and moisture applied to wool, which causes it to wick together. The more wool and pressure you add, the thicker and sturdier the felt. One of my very favorite peoples in history, the Scythians (who I also use as reference for this project bc I’m biased and I can) were famous for their incredible feltwork. They made incredible felted fabric with all kinds of patterns and colors.
It is also believed that the Scythians are the origin of the Amazon Warriors of Greek myth. They were a horse-riding society with both male and female warriors, and their specialty fighting style was archery. The Ancient Greeks made myths about the things that scared them, and some of the things that scared them the most were archers, horses, and women. So women archers charging at them on horses? Worst fucking nightmare. Thus the Amazons were born, most likely from sailors who encountered Scythian warriors while trading around the Mediterranean. Greek myths are so fun, especially when you know some of the context around their creation. hmu if you want more Greek myth and/or art fun facts bc I could go for days lol.

DAO OCs Masterlist
Organized alphabetically by last name, IDs are in alt text.
Kahan Aeducan: My canon warden! Grew up as the youngest of the Aeducan brothers, born to a noble hunter and Endrin Aeducan. He took well to the brutal politicking of Orzammar and was known for his enjoyment in crafting deals or taking down lesser noble house plots against his family. He relishes in keeping people he loves safe and got his hands dirty to keep theirs clean. Honor was very important to him until Bhelen's betrayal and after becoming a warden he took every opportunity to further his chances even at the expense of others.
He is especially close with Zevran and Morrigan and after defeating the archdemon he left to chase after a cure for the Blight, using leads from Morrigan and his own research. He occasionally joined up again with Zevran to fight the crows and by Inquisition he uses his political clout in Fereldan to force their hand and require their help in closing the Breach. He has taken in a younger ex-crow Zevran discovered in his travels by the name of Ainara, and taken up a renewed fight against the crows alongside his husband, Zevran.
Tumblr media
Aedan Cousland: One of my multi warden world state ocs! Grew up alongside his twin sister and became an accomplished, if untested, swordsman. Lived a plush life until the death of most of the Cousland family before the Blight and fled on his own to escape through the sewers. He worked his nobility to his favor and helped amass allies against the Blight, joining the warden with his warriors and becoming a warden himself. He falls for Morrigan and happily performs the ritual at her request to save them, and spends much of his time after the Blight traveling alongside her and marveling in her magic and caring for their son.
Tumblr media
Athras Mahariel: Best friends with Tamlen and known for their budding romance with Merrill before becoming a warden. Originally born to an ex city elven father and Dalish mother, Athras took to hunting like a fish to water and was frequently found in the halla pens in their youth. After Tamlen becomes blighted by the mirror, they reluctantly become a warden and form quick bonds with Alistair at Ostagar. Frequently confused by the shemlen world and its customs, Athras often confided in Morrigan and Alistair, occasionally seeking the advice of Oghren due to his battle prowess. They harden Alistair and place him on the throne due to a concern over elvhen well being, becoming his consort, and are often the one he seeks advice from in his kingship. Functionally they're a shadow ruler of Fereldan, though few would dare to say it.
Tumblr media
Rheya Tabris: Born to a night elf who fought alongside Loghain and Maric to retake Fereldan, Rheya was taught the art of subterfuge but took far better to wielding a greatsword and armor. She had a fierce temper and was protective of others around her, particularly Soris, who she viewed like a younger brother. She looked forward to her match with Nelaros, and after his death to save her in the castle, she kept the ring.
She became a fierce warden and a champion of the downtrodden, helping where she could and giving money when she could not. She romanced Leliana, taken in by her idealistic views and her own experiences with loss, and viewed Alistair and Sten like brothers. Outraged by Loghain's betrayal of the city elves, she fought and executed him, placing Anora on the throne after many threats to do the same if her promises to treat the elves well rang shallow. After the Blight she traveled with Leliana for a time, diverging in Kirkwall to help the alienage elves there and investigating rumors of a cured blighted mirror. Became close friends with Merrill and continues to search for a Blight cure though her hope wanes by Inquisition when she begins to hear the false calling.
Tumblr media
Cilian Theriel: My bitchy blood mage <3. In the Circle he was very well behaved and quiet, mostly to prevent any extra attention from Templars. He had feelings for his best friend, Enoch Surana, but never acted on them out of concern for causing templars to separate them. A star pupil with a penchant for entropy magic, he relishes in becoming a warden in spite of his worry for Jowan and Enoch.
He swiftly takes the view that he must end the blight no matter the cost, and begins using blood magic to further their chances. Distrusts Alistair and finds kinship in Morrigan, but eventually is charmed by Zevran and becomes his partner. In spite of his determination, he refuses the ritual with Morrigan, arguing that it's a step too far to bring something so powerful and unknown into the world even if it will save his life. He dies slaying the archdemon.

Shep's Hermitcraft Character Design Event [Week 2, Day 1 - The Stew Brigade pt. 1]
Hello! This post is in regards to @shepscapades Hermit Design Event! Check it out here!
The prompt I'm doing throughout this week is:
"Video Game Swap"
Now the way I interpret the prompt for this week is that it involves putting the Hermits as well as their friends in another world from a video game. And what better time to show my designs for the crossover-fusion AU of mine named Hermit Age AU.
Here's the gist of the AU:
Hermit Age is an AU I've created that is a crossover fusion AU that combines Hermitcraft and any HC-adjacent series (like Empires SMP or the Life Series) with the Dragon Age series. It puts the Hermits and their friends into the world of Dragon Age and given flavor to fit in!
If you wish to know the AU better, here's the masterlist! As for the links directly to the characters' interpretations, it will be seen below!
A fair warning though, these are not the best designs of how they'd look in the game but I have done my hardest! Some of what you see aren't exactly true to the game but this is the way I envision them in the game anyhow! Given also is that Hero Forge does not have everything I may have!
Now without further ado, here's the first two members of the Stew Brigade! Impulse and Gem!
Impulse
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here is Impulse as a Dwarf Warrior!
A general gist of his story is that he came from the dwarven kingdom of Orzammar, born and raised there up until he got fed up with the politics of the kingdom and left for the surface. Now he's a mercenary venturing and exploring with the Stew Brigade (a group that consists of him, Gem, Skizz, and Pearl).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for his former actual look in Dragon Age, I envision Impulse having used this kind of armor. Although this armor is different from what you truly see in the Hero Forge design, this dwarven armor look is definitely something he wears!
I visualize that Impulse currently wears a dwarven-made mercenary-style armor like his Hero Forge design! He still has his roots from the dwarven smiths but a new change could work for him!
If you wish to look further into my interpretation of Impulse, here's the link!
If you wish to look into his Hero Forge design, it's in here!
Also this is the picrew I used!
Gem
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now this is Gem as a Dalish Elf Rogue!
The gist of her story is about how her nomadic clan has been moving around Southern Thedas a lot up until the Fifth Blight occurred. At that point her clan escaped and found a new life outside of a city that hates them. Eventually she left her clan as well because of her wanderlust, curiosity, and adventurousness. She'd eventually find herself a part of the Stew Brigade too!
Tumblr media
Here's a little look of what Gem's armor could be from Dragon Age Inquisition! Just change some colors here and there and that's Gem's armor alright!
If you wish to look further into my interpretation of Gem, here's the link!
If you wish to look at her Hero Forge design, it's in here!
As for the picrew, this is the one I used!
As I've done every time, if you want to know more about Dragon Age, check out the wiki! It really helps to bridge the gap of understanding :]
That is all for Day 1 for this new week and the new prompt! There's more designs I've done for most of the week, so stay tuned!

Inquisitor Ellana Lavellan (attempted) armor design
I won't lie I did this back in February and didn't really vibe with it. Honestly still don't know how I feel about it but thought I'd finally post it anyways.
The idea was sort of to mash aspects of the Dalish armor and the dragon armor (which is my personal favorite armor for warrior inquisitors as I find the others don't really look like they're meant for close combat??). Does it look good? Who's to say. It certainly looks like something.
I might still use it anyway until I think of something better but either way have a decked out Lavellan for your feed ❤️

what's dragon age
AHAHA....HAHAHAHHAHA....AHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHA
so I'm not well versed in all three of the games that are out right now since i havent played through the other two besides inquisition yet so my explanation will be based on what i know through that game and just gen knowledge BUTTT
the dragon age series is a fantasy RPG made by bioware (they made mass effect and like a million star wars games) and each game is set at different times, each going in choronological order, which is IMPORTANT!! because the dragon age franchise has a feature called "tapestries" which are something seperate to the games where you choose all the choices you made from your playthrough in the games, and these choices once exported will actually EFFECT the next game in the series which is really fucking cool
the games are set in a world called Thedas, and there are four main races of people which are dwarves, elves, humans, and qunari. you can play as three different class types: warrior, mage, and rogue, which all let you specialize in their own skilltrees with perks that you slowly gain over time by doing quests around thedas (in inquisition at least, this is all very classic rpg game stuff)
the world of thedas is VERY written out and developed, with almost every character you find having their own story and opinions on everything around them. there are a few main groups of people in these games: the mages, the templars, the chantry, the qun, the dalish, as well as different districts of people based on race. theres also the Circle, the Divine, etc. theres a LOT!!! And as you wander through the games you can unlock a lot of books , journal entries, notes, etc. that let you learn EVEN more about the world around you. There are also several books that go into HEAVY detail about specific and non-specific characters, regions, foods, wildlife, etc. (i happen to own two :]) there are also story-specific novels based around certain characters.
the most recent game, inquisition, has you set in the Frostback Mountains in Haven, where you have been captured as a prisoner after being caught at the scene of the murder of the Divine, who was killed by an unknown evil creature. You awaken in the prison with a bright green mark on your hand, which you find out can seal "rifts", tears between the living world and what is known as The Fade. You then go on a journey of rebuilding what is known as "The Inquisition", a group of people to bring peace to Thedas if something were to happen to The Divine. You learn about your past, make new companions, fight against demons and deal with the rising fear and lashings out of both sides of a mage versus templar war.
The games each are about 30-40 dollars roughly with DLCs included, which i personally believe are ESSENTIAL to playthroughs of these games as they are packed to the brim with lore as well as amazing cosmetics like armor.
allow me to find gifs of all my favorite characters from inquisition

All the relevant 7s for whoever you'd rather talk about for the DA ask game👀
lol you’ve unlocked the method for getting me to talk about the maximum number of my children possible, congrats! :D
Essentials -How do they dress in their downtime, while fighting, in formal settings, etc.?
Trinne in downtime is either comfy trousers/shirt/boots or a simple but pretty dress. She likes to wear dresses, so definitely figures out something stylish but comfortable(as possible) for formal situations, and for combat, she starts out with what’s basically the mage Hawke starting armor with a shirt underneath and progresses up to armor after she learns the arcane warrior spec(faves are the green elven set in DAO and the Golem shall in DAA), and she does like the balance of comfort and protection the the mage Warden blues.
Rahna and Sigi are both in the most comfortable thing possible for downtime, which usually means a shirt stolen from their respective boyfriends, trousers, and high odds of bare feet. (If Rahna’s wearing one of her own shirts rather than one stolen from Alistair and later Jowan, there’s probably little flowers embroidered around the collar/cuffs) They’re both rogues, so light leather armor for combat, though Rahna will go up to heavier leathers when she isn’t wearing Warden blues. Sigi tries to stay as unobtrusive as possible. In formal situations, Rahna’s probably wearing a dress with trousers or leggings hidden underneath just in case she needs to fight and/or run, but Sigi would be in more formal shirt and trousers unless there’s absolutely no way to get out of wearing a dress.
Astrid wears simple but well-tailored clothes for her downtime, flattering colors, comfortable, very pretty tops and usually trousers but sometimes skirts. She really liked the Fugitive’s Mantle armor(minus the giant gear on the shoulder lol), but those robes got ruined during the qunari invasion, so she tends to go for either heavy leather or light chain mail chestpiece over trousers/shirt for combat now. Formal situations can get very formal for her(Viscountess of Kirkwall and Princess of Starkhaven), so she wears a lot of velvet with flowing skirts in rich colors--red, blue, green, gold trim on almost everything, lots of embroidery or lace.
Tighe is in a loose shirt, probably half-unbuttoned/tied, trousers and no shoes whatsoever as often as he can get away with it for downtime. Keeper robes for combat and more formal situations, unless Josephine makes him wears one of the more Inquisition-y formal outfits. (He likes the blue one better than the red, in that case. Goes with his eyes)
Levyn is in shirt, trousers, boots and a lightweight jerkin for downtime(probably with charcoal stains on his hands/arms from sketching), hair either in a v loose ponytail or possibly down entirely. Formal situations he likes the sable-tone Inquisition set, with the deep grey-black jacket and lighter sash, black boots. For combat, regular shirt and trousers under a leather coat/duster with fingerless gloves and armored boots, like this or this
Life-Did they ever work a normal, everyday job?
Trinne no bc Circle mage and then immediately Grey Warden lol.
Levyn.... little yes, little no. He’s me playing Jowan as the Inquisitor, so in the gap between Redcliffe and the Conclave, he spends some time as a wandering healer/guard(?) for refugees, and he tries not to use magic for any of it unless he has to, then settles in a village, so he sort of has some normal job experience?
Rahna, Astrid, and Sigi yes bc city elf and farm girls, lol (Rahna’s done all sorts of mundane, boring jobs to scrape up coin, Astrid and Sigi help with chores, running the house, do errands for the neighbors, that sort of thing)
Tighe’s the First for his clan, which is a normal, everyday job for a mage in Dalish culture, but idk if it would be considered “normal” by anyone outside that culture.
Party-How did their [romantic] relationship progress? If they’re a canon romance option, is their story different from the way the game presents it?
OKAY SO.
Rahna and Trinne both romanced Alistair, went pretty much by the book, only neither of them got to have a happy ending with him in their canons. :)) For Rahna he sacrificed himself killing the Archdemon, for Trinne he became king and broke up with her. (I love him, I do, Idk why this keeps happening)
Rahna I spent 660k words writing her grieving, healing and crawling through an insanely slowburn friends to lovers arc with Jowan that I think took around 220k to get to their confession of feelings? Yeah. That was agony. Sweet, sweet agony.
Trinne in OWaP canon eventually falls in love/ends up with Harvey(and yes, that makes her laugh, considering he drove her up the wall when they first met xD)
Astrid rival-manced Sebastian, went pretty much like the game, only I had him nearly die i nthe Arishok fight :), leading to their feelings confession and a more open development of their relationship over act 3, and they got married before he reclaimed Starkhaven, despite the whole “I would offer you no less than a prince” (Astrid’s counter was basically “Yeah, I fell in love with Sebastian, so he more than enough for me <3″ and he wasn’t really going to argue with that)
Sigi friend-manced Fenris, was this really slow, quiet progression of realizing how much they enjoyed--wanted--each other’s company, how even when they butted heads they respected each other, to some light testing-the-waters flirting, then more serious flirting when that was well received. They are both very stubborn, very proud people(Red Hawke FTW), so there were so many times after That Night one or the other almost said something but backed off at the last second, one of hte most notable being after she dueled the Arishok. Their romance is very quiet, a lot of just enjoying each other’s company, doing their own thing but Together, and they’re both extremely snuggly sleepers.
Tighe romanced Cassandra bc he fell head over heels pretty much immediately(well, immediately after they got past the “Tell me why we shouldn’t kill you now” thing), also he’s a sappy romantic and loves a challenge, so when she said she wanted romance, wanted to be swept off her feet, he went “GAME ON” and hunted down poetry books and lit candles and went all out bc that’s the only way he knows how to do things.
Levyn romanced Josephine, and tbh it was probably even slower burn than it happens in the game. He didn’t realize he actually loved her as much as he did until the duel with Otranto. He enjoyed her company, appreciated her kindness, but hadn’t realized it was love until he almost lost her. (There was some added drama with him telling her at least part of the truth about who he is, but that didn’t really change the course of the romance, just added flavor to a couple spots)
DA2-What did they name their Mabari?
Astrid named hers Storm, Sigi named hers Grizzly
DAI-What are your Inquisitor’s first impressions of Hawke?
Tighe and Astrid are very similar, personality wise. He’s a bit goofier than her, but they’re both tender-hearted and have a savior complex that’s largely born of people constantly asking more and more and MORE of them, so they do vibe pretty much from the start. Tighe’s knee-jerk first impression is that she’s sad. OR maybe more wistful? (Missing her family, he finds out later, but Varric asked, and he’s her friend, so she wasn’t going to say no. She should have said no) He can tell she tries her damnedest and takes it personally when that’s not enough. Expects too much of herself, and he wonders if that’s just how she is, or because everyone’s spent so long building her legend she’s afraid of letting them down(both).
Much as I want to have Sigi in the same canon as Trinne and Levyn, I can’t bc that would mean picking between a Fenris-romancing Hawke and romanced Alistair in HLtA, and since this Inquisitor is JOWAN and Alistair is in love with his best friend(sister, really), I did not want to put myself in that position. xD The Hawke for him is a Templar-supporting warrior who had rivalmanced Anders and executed him /cough so Levyn was, uh, fairly wary of working with her.

Now that I am in my D&D era, here are the D&D classes and subclasses I think my Dragon Age Next Gen kids would have.
Lena: human Celestial Warlock (DA spec - Spirit Healer Mage) D&D wizards, that study to get magic, only suit Tevinter mages, let's not go there. In Dragon Age, Lena heals with the aid of a fade spirit; let's simply make it her patron and voilà.
Mael: half elf Scout Rogue (DA spec - Artificer Rogue) Finally Alistair's kids can have visible elven ancestry ! The name of the class accross medium meaning nothing, Mael is not a D&D artificer; he's more of a tactical archer. There are no perfect D&D match, I guess rogue by default ?
Ailis: half elf Oath of the Crown Paladin (DA spec - Guardian Warrior) Ailis is a tank and that's the tankiest tank in D&D. She should be quite loyal to the crown of Ferelden considering she's first in line for the throne, and is also very andrastian.
Kieran: half elf Circle of Stars Druid (DA spec - Shapeshifter Mage) Hear my arguments before judging: Kieran is raised by a swamp witch, has a weird insight on the world, and these star druids can wildshape into the Dragon constellation. If you know of a better fitting circle with an actual dragon wildshape, please tell me.
Tini: hill dwarf Gloom Stalker Ranger (DA spec - Shadow Rogue) I feel like out of all my Dragon Age rogues, Tini should be the one to be an actual D&D rogue, but none the subclasses match shadow as well as my beloved gloom stalker.
Rengar: hill dwarf Alchemist Artificer (DA spec - Tempest Rogue) Ren's shenanigans are closer to the Inquisition multiplayer Alchemist, but it's not an official spec. D&D alchemist fits quite well with the potions and nuisance potential.
Endrin: hill dwarf Path of the Battlerager Barbarian (DA spec - Berserker Warrior) The lack of at least medium armor in Path of the Berserker was bothering me, until I found this dwarf exclusive subclass that met all my criteria, except the weapon/unarmed situation.
Connor: human Shadow Magic Sorcerer (DA spec - Rift Mage) In DAO canon, Connor becomes a rift mage, studying the Fade in Tevinter. While this seems less true for Inquisition Connor, I like the angst potential of the aftermath of his possession being a visible change to his magic.
Pernille: human College of Swords Bard (DA spec - Duelist Rogue) The warrior specialization I wanted for her, Chevalier, does not exist in Dragon Age gameplay, only in lore; next best option was the rogue spec Duelist. It was a tie between swashbuckler and bard; only one had the orlesian vibes.
Also adding a new kid to the NG line up Iloren: wood elf Battle Master Fighter (DA spec - Champion Warrior) I know there is a D&D champion spec but battle master fits the DA gameplay better. This dalish character is still a WIP but her D&D class was obvious.

What about heavily enchanted shin-length aketons/gambesons? The fabric is enchanted with spells that make it as strong if not stronger than mail. Essentially a different path to the same destination as the mithril shirt Bilbo and Frodo wear.
These wouldn't be given to everyone obviously, since it wouldn't be the easiest to make. Though due to the fact the Dalish practice magic a lot more freely, ( and at least in my hc, have more than just 3 mages) it can be done.
The ones that would wear it most would be their warriors and potentially mages. I can see Merrill wearing one instead of her canon outfit.
What is your HC regarding weapons? I know swords are the norm, but given their limited amount of metal and them being in forests a lot of the time, I feel spears would be very common.
The swords they have would likely be from trading or acquired by other means.
I think it comes down to aesthetic on this. Aketons and Gambesons are typically paired with mail or plate armor to prevent slashing to the fabric, and both can be pretty restrictive when it comes to movement. They're great for foot soldiers in a standing army, but the fast, dancer-like style that we more typically see from the Dalish would be hindered by the thick padding. You could definitely say that the enchantments could function as magic plate or mail, but any armor that thick would probably be reserved for more traditional warriors in the clan, people who would wield sword and shield.
If you like the aesthetic of long tunic gambesons, aketons, or brigandine armor, you could just forgo the padding altogether for some kind of sewn in enchantment. These armor styles are very western in appearance, which is why I've avoided using them in my designs, but if this style of armor is your HC, then absolutely they could be used by the Dalish. Even without metal, the armor would be thickly padded with felt, which people have been using for centuries as armor. Packed tight enough, felt is strong enough to stop arrows. And with the Halla, it would make perfect sense for the Dalish to use their wool for felting.
Alternatively, I think a pretty decent irl armor that could be pretty applicable to the Dalish is Assyrian leather and scale armor. It's a lot lighter and a lot more practical for most Dalish rogue fighters and battle mages who wouldn't need the heavy duty protection of plate. It's technically leather scale mail, and it's the closes thing that I've been able to find to the canon woven leather pieces aside from some medieval greaves.

Here though, is where that problems with Bioware's design of the Dalish in the games comes in. Realistically, they would be heavily reliant on archery and small blades. I actually think that there wouldn't be many spear users, or really any large weapon users. Since the Dalish generally live and move through forested terrain, the size of a spear is too much of a hinderance to be practical, and a spear is more suited to hunting big game or infantry. They were most famously used in the Roman phalanx formation to reach over shields, but once formation broke, the soldiers would switch to sword and shield combat.
I think a good reference point for Dalish weaponry in general are weapons from ethnic groups who live in heavy forest and jungle environments. I'm going to use the Moro people of the Philippines for my example, because I'm Filipino and I'm biased :D
Tumblr media
The largest of these blades, the Kampilan, is generally slightly shorter than a longsword. The thick jungles of the Philippines do not allow for combat with reach weapons. From what we see of Thedosian forests, it would generally be the same, just colder.
Bows and arrows are easy to make and replenish, and they would be the weapons that the Dalish have easiest access too. If anything, a lot of ironbark would be used for bows that could be passed down through generations if kept well maintained. The same can be said for small knives and daggers. Compact weapons are just more practical for the forests.
The Emerald Knights are actually a pretty good reference point for Dalish weaponry. We get a lot of bows, shortswords, and handaxes from them, So I believe that the Dalish fighting styles would typically lean into close combat with small weapons or ranged combat with well crafted bows.
There are Dalish warriors, and there are plenty of blades in the clans, but no forges. Bioware doesn't give any explanation for this, and explicitly talks about the rarity of ironbark and the general unwillingness of the Dalish to trade with humans. So my HC is that there are a handful of large, relatively stationary Dalish clans who have established forges that they trade with other clans from. Basically little hidden away Dalish villages that function as something of trade towns for the Dalish people.
Otherwise, all metal armor and weapons would have to be looted from fallen opponents or stolen. And there would be no feasible way to make repairs to damaged weapons and armor or to refashion the metal into something else, apart from maybe the 'jack at arms' armor I mentioned before.
Hope this helps! Again, this is all opinion based, apart from the actual historical information. I’m just a weirdo who likes history a lot and am putting probably too much effort into breaking down fantasy cultures using real world textile and technology evolution.
