ahato mizuta appreciation post

my gurl theyve been stuck in the metro for a very long time

long rant below!! beware.

okay so first off i honestly wish that they would stay a character that nintendo didnt expand on, i loved the sheer amount of fanon and headcanons that people came up with and that the dedf1sh tag was filled with that one post from hwkgrass or smth with ‘press A to imagine inkopolis’ like that was my favourite post and it probably still is and its also the reason i even have tumblr in the first place

and right now the tag is filled with them being a hater and just random things or saying omg nonbinary people are real? really? nonbinary octopus swag or smth and i just dont know about it.. like is everyone really that desperate to get some pronoun drop from nintendo i thought we were satisfied with the 25 bajillion headcanon pages for them. like im not mad they use they them pronouns im just saying its not a big deal and why are we so hungry for new game content it doesnt feel like something people built from the ground up anymore

and oh my god this makes me feel like someone talking for no reason which is probably true but hey i miss the character nobody knew about and that had the hugest backstory that changed on every single post about them and that had so many different sibling headcanons and got sanitized willingly because they just didnt want to think anymore

all the recent art always has haha cunty octopus or whatever where is that one zombie living in the walls who has not stopped working or slept or ate in 8 years

where is that one character who has black fingertips NOT because of them dyeing it but from the breakdown of cell tissue from generally not being alive their entire fanmade backstory just evaporated

am i sad that the canon dedf1sh is now a pasty white slacker in class who got kidnapped by tartar and just got sanitized with no reason whatsoever and nintendo didnt leave the thing up for debate? yeah

was i obsessed with this character before? yeahh

here's another Splatoon theory that I don't even like

starting with a few questions:

what's the deal with [#14] crush?

why did dedf1sh make a Splattack remix?

what was Agent 3 doing during Octo Expansion?

We've been told somewhere, probably in some interview, that dedf1sh doesn't typically make music for others, but instead mostly only makes what they want to. From there it's easy to extrapolate that their music reflects their feelings, (or what was left of them post-sanitization) that they expressed themself through their compositions.

This paints a sad picture of their time in the underground, as most of their music from Octo Expansion has a tense and lonely feel to it. Which is why [#14] crush stands out so much. If you've forgotten which track that is, give it a listen:

It's goofy! It's chaotic and silly! If you didn't make Agent 8 hop around, flop, and spin to this track, you either didn't get far enough in Octo Expansion, or you're lying to yourself.

What gives?

The word "crush" can mean a lot of things, but this track doesn't exactly convey anything that sounds like being emotionally or physically crushed. It...sounds a lot more like the chaotic mix of emotions that comes with having a crush on someone. (this is where I need to apologize to Team Aromantic Acht. Love y'all, you guys do your thing and I'll do mine, cool?)

If I'm even in the ballpark of correct, that begs the question: on who?

There haven't been many characters we know about being in the underground, and even fewer who could potentially have encountered Kamabo's sanitized DJ. But if process of elimination isn't enough, there is a hint: as stated previously, Dedf1sh tends to only create their own compositions for their own interest, with few known exceptions. One of these exceptions is the Splattack! remix that plays during the Agent 3 boss fight. Again, it doesn't really match the style of the rest of their music from Octo Expansion, which suggests to me that they chose to remix that track specifically for someone who likes it, namely Agent 3.

Conclusion: Acht encountered Former Agent 3 during the time they were both underground, became as infatuated as a sanitized individual can be, and remixed 3's favorite song in an attempt to impress them.

(for my fellow Agent 24 shippers: I'm not necessarily saying that it worked. I'm saying that a sanitized Acht saw someone cool and made a couple banger tracks about it. Maybe at best Agent 3 appreciated and was intrigued by the gesture, especially coming from a sanitized octoling.)

My favourite lobby music, Lobby Music #9 is actually "Pour It On" by Missing Ink.

Octoplush named a tune "#35 caught" in reference to Dedf1sh. Or maybe Dedf1sh even helped work on the song? It kinda sounds like their style a bit...

The special salmon run wave song that some called Fishing Frenzy 2 or Chaos Carnival (the one that has a new time signature every measure) is called "Frothy Waters" by ω-3.

i dont have much to add to the side order discussion right now, but im 90% sure ahato (acht in the localized version, but i like ahato better) and marina went to school together, because its the only real “way back” that makes sense to me.

considering marina is in her early 20s in this game, and ahato is probably around that same age range, i dont think it would make much sense if they met through music. i mean, it would make the most sense for their characters, but when you consider marina only broke free from octavio when she was 16, and met pearl seemingly right after that on mount nantai, i dont think there would be much room for the two of them meeting without pearl knowing. its also possible that they knew each other from when they were in the octarian army, since marina was very well known. but, if they are in the same age range, marina would’ve graduated long before ahato did (she skipped multiple grades and graduated at age 9), and the two of them probably wouldnt have been in the same rank. they most likely knew each other through school, probably being trained in the same place before marina skipped grades.

of course this is entirely dependent on the assumption that ahato and marina are the same age, and we also dont know much about ahatos past, so this probably wont end up being right
