I figure that since things would calm down a little bit after Darryl gets the Institute under some control/around the time she's warmed up to Hector enough that they're friends, is when the Unresolved Trauma starts to poke its head out. But then the stuff with the bos happens and she has to shove it back down so it doesn't get in the way of her ability to lead
I'm still not entirely sure on the exact timeline, but I'm imagining that the bos stuff takes, like, a really long time to resolve. Long enough that her and Hector already have an established relationship by the time it's over, which leads me to believe that the Unresolved Shit now finely aged and mixed with I'm sure even more from the bos stuff would fully resurface after that happens, but before they get married, and just completely 360 noscopes her ass
Oh man. She's been so damn busy that it completely catches her off guard, and everyone else around her too probably.
They all (except maybe a select few) thought she was handling everything perfectly fine, dealing with things as they happen, maybe not even bothered by a lot of them. And then it all just comes crashing down and they're having a Big Concern
I imagine she'd still try to hide it from everyone except closest friends, and even then the full extent of shit she's going through is probably only known by Derrick and Hector. And not to derail this but speaking of Derrick - has he already gone through this? Possibly with Darryl's help? They have a unique understanding of each other's situation, so I'm sure there's a lot of support that can come from that.
Because while Hector does all he can to be a good emotional support goth, he doesn't quite have that level of understanding because the pre-war stuff is far more distant to him than it is to Darryl. And despite him being fantastic at running away from his problems, I think he's taken some time to grieve in the 200+ years he's had available.
Either way, it's high time for Darryl to get a damn vacation, take her mind off responsibilities for a bit and only focus on herself. Not sure how possible it is, but Hector would try his best to arrange for it somehow.

They say things are bigger in Texas. Houston’s San Jacinto Monument was built 13 feet taller than the Washington Monument to commemorate 10 years of independence as the Republic of Texas. On top, there’s a 220-ton concrete star, the official symbol of the Lone Star state. Unofficially, perhaps the biggest symbolic middle finger in America. The state’s best-known beer is biggest where it matters most: a Texas-sized personality.
Ode to Macrobrews: Natural Light, a.k.a. Natty Light
Lone Star declared itself the National Beer of Texas in 1980, a full 144 years after the state stopped being a country—you don’t win around these parts by fussing over small details like market share or taste. You win the hearts and minds of Texans by stoking state pride with secessionist vibes.
In an age when the IBUs of microbrew IPAs are flashed across screens like football stats, Lone Star doesn’t mess with all that. Ordering one sends a clear message: You’re at the bar to guzzle light lager, not compare hop varieties for a beer-themed Instagram account.
The Champagne of Beers: 5 Carbonated Brut IPAs to Drink This Summer
Speaking of how to order a Lone Star, there’s a big story behind that, too.
Introduced in 1940, during Lone Star’s first two decades, it was positioned as being “From the Big Country.” A beer for rugged outdoorsmen and cowboys on the wide-open range. By the mid-’60s, the beer was selling a million barrels per year, mostly to country boys and old timers. Then the nationals like Budweiser and Coors elbowed in on Texas territory, with eyes on the growing college crowd.
Sales of Lone Star declined throughout the early 1970s, until two company hombres named Barry Sullivan and Jerry Rentzloff noticed a curious fact. More Lone Star was sold at a single Austin music venue, Armadillo World Headquarters, than any other spot in the state besides the Houston Astrodome.
3 Great Starters for the Sour Beer Newbie (and 4 Experimental Ones)
The ‘Dillo wasn’t your typical 1970s country western bar. Instead of broken bottles atop sawdust, wide-brimmed hats, and Texas Longhorns, think bong rips in the parking lot, denim cutoffs, and hippy longhairs. The music on-stage was a new progressive subgenre called Outlaw Country, popularized by Lone Star-drinking newcomers like Willie Nelson. When “Cosmic Cowboy” singer Michael Murphey crooned about “Lone Star sipping and skinny dipping,” audience members lifted their Lone Stars and cheered.
Meanwhile, down in South Texas, locals were ordering Lone Stars by calling them “longnecks,” after the tall returnable bottles that were still sold down there. In other markets across America, including Austin, beer was increasingly shipped in aluminum cans and squat disposable bottles called stubbies. Recognizing the anti-corporate marketing potential for Austin’s counterculture, Sullivan and Rentzloff created a new slogan: “Long Live Long Necks.”
The company commissioned artist Jim Franklin to create a now-famous poster series. The first imagined a post-apocalyptic wasteland with only two kinds of humble survivors: foraging armadillos and 10-foot longnecks. Another depicted a full-sized Prairie Schooner wagon resting like a ship inside a 20-foot Lone Star bottle. A third showed an oil derrick built atop a 30-foot longneck that was gushing “Texas Gold” from the spout.
The campaign wasn’t just a new-age hit for Lone Star sales. Across the American beer-drinking scene, there was a full-on revival. The longneck bottle signaled Texas chic and high quality.
In 1980, John Travolta clutched a Lone Star in Urban Cowboy. Two years later, The New York Times made a fashionably late entrance to the party, crediting Texas’ best-known beer with saving the longneck bottle. One problem: Lone Star’s heyday was already over. Market share resumed slipping to nationals and up-and-coming microbrews. The company was sold four times in two decades, most recently to the Pabst Brewing Company.
Ode to Macrobrews: Natural Light, a.k.a. Natty Light
But Lone Star’s legend remains secure to this day. A larger-than-life regional, with a no-nonsense image, macro flavor, and loyal following. It’s the kind of name recognition a microbrewery would beg for. But Lone Star begs for nothing.

😘
👶 BABY - what is their age / age range? do they get mistaken for another age?
Was around 36 when he got frozen, and depending on whether or not he shaves and how much, people would either put him at a little bit younger, or a little older
💇‍♀️ HAIRCUT - what is their hair color / length? how do they like their hair styled?
Short, shaggy dark black hair that he tries to keep swept out of his face with varying amounts of success
💪 FLEXED ARM - what is their build / shape?
Not especially lean, but not exactly a brick shithouse either. Had softened up a little in the years after he left the military. Has still got some decent strength from working as a mechanic
🧔‍♂️ BEARDED MAN - do they have any facial hair? (if so) do they prefer to grow it unruly or keep it trimmed / clean?
Got some scruff that he keeps trimmed, but prefers to not let it grow out much cause he doesn't like getting stuff stuck in it too much
👓 GLASSES - do they wear glasses?
Doesn't wear glasses but he probably should. Or some reading glasses if nothing else
👖 JEANS - what is their most iconic outfit?
grease-stained jeans from work, a slightly less grease-stained shirt, a jacket he got from someone post war, and some basic leather armor. Sunglasses optional
👜 PURSE - what other accessories do they wear (jewelry, backpacks, belts, etc)?
Got an engagement ring from his gf, but at this point it's mostly decorative than anything since they may as well leave it as is now that they got a third person in the relationship. Has a belt. Had some cartilage piercings on his ears, but they weren't in when he got frozen so those are gone now lmao
🐶 DOG - do they have any pets?
Took care of Sarah sometimes both before the war and after, as well as Dogmeat. Who's to say how successful his plan to get one of their puppies was
🦉 OWL - are they an early riser or a night owl?
Night owl who hates waking up early but does it anyways because there's not enough suffering in his life already
🪨 ROCK - do they make friends easily? (if not) why?
Would be easy to get along with, but when it comes to making friends it just depends on the person
☀️ SUN - what can easily make them happy or brighten their day?
Any dog
🕷 SPIDER - what is / are their biggest fear(s)?
Watching the people he cares about getting hurt
🍦 ICE CREAM - what is their favorite treat?
Brownies
🧀 CHEESE - do they have a favorite joke? (if so) what is it?
Would love almost any dumb dad joke tbh
🍺 BEER - do they drink / use chems?
He's not the biggest fan of booze and doesn't really drink much bc of it, but he will occasionally if there's something he can stand. Tries to avoid using chems if he can bc he's seen what they can do to people both before and after the war
🥊 BOXING GLOVE - what is their go-to fighting style (hand-to-hand, short range, long range, etc)?
Long range sniper
🎤 MICROPHONE - do they like to sing? are they good at it?
He's probably about in the same ballpark as Darryl: isn't the best, but the times when he actual does aren't really about skill and more about enjoying the music
✏️ PENCIL - do they like writing / drawing? do they write / draw often?
Doesn't like drawing cause he gets frustrated that he can't get the thing to look how he wants. Not the best at writing either but he does his best
🎢 ROLLER COASTER - what types of entertainment do they like?
Likes focusing on various tasks, video games, and watching other people doing dumb shit with friends
🏝 ISLAND - if they could go anywhere, where would they go and why?
Would like to at least go back and visit Oregon again sometime if he can, since it would have been a long time since the last time he was there. And he doesn't have to worry bout running into his parents this time
🎞 FILM - what is their greatest / happiest memory?
Hmm, either a date night out with his gf, or a memory of him hanging out with Darryl without their parents around when he was a kid and didn't really understand anything
🧲 MAGNET - do people find them attractive?
They'll find him cute, if nothing else
🪓 AXE - what is their go-to weapon?
Rifle
🩹 BANDAID - do they have any prominent scars? (if so) how did they get them? do they try to keep them covered?
Has got some nasty scarring around his bad knee from where it got fucked up and from where it was operated on to fix it
📚 BOOKS - do they know any other languages? (if so) what are they?
Very bad amount of spanish that he also learned in high school, but couldn't hold a conversation in it to save his life. Tried to learn some mandarin chinese as well, but wasn't able to grasp it
❤️ RED HEART- are they easy to love? (if not) what makes them so difficult?
Depends on the person
💛 YELLOW HEART - what do they seek in a relationship?
Safety and stability
💙 BLUE HEART - what is / are their love language(s)?
Words of affirmation and acts of service
💔 BROKEN HEART - do they have any past relationships?
Probably had a bf/gf or two back in high school and right around when he joined the military. They went about as well as any other high school relationship goes
❤️‍🔥 FLAMING HEART - what are their turn-ons / turn-offs?
Butch might not be a top, but Derrick is and greatly enjoys it
🦖 TREX - what is the biggest creature they have ever seen?
A whale
🍒 CHERRIES - a random sweet headcanon.
Is unironically a hashtag fratbro but in a harmless, himbo kind of way and without having been in a frat
🧼 SOAP - are they clean? do they try to shower often?
Has to shower pretty often pre war because of how grimy he'd get from working, but is slightly less concerned with hygiene post war, and even less so after joining the bos
🚬 CIGARETTE - do they smoke?
Weed Nah he tried it once and coughed his lungs up and that was his only experience
🧨 DYNAMITE - a random angsty headcanon.
Would want to go back to the world before it got blown up, but knows that wouldn't work and that the rest of everything would still be shit

may I also get 1, 2, 9 and 11 for Darryl?
and 1, 4, 6, 10, 13 for Derrick?
ty <3
😘
Darryl:
1. Does your oc have any secrets? Whats their biggest one?
Honestly, probably the hitman stuff that she did before the war. It's not that she's ashamed of it or anything, she just knows that other people wouldn't Get It and knows that it could significantly impact the way a lot of people see her
2. Does your oc have any embarrassing memories?
Who isn't embarrassed by the stuff they've said and done when they were younger? I'd imagine that the majority of them would be your standard Embarrassing Memory, like misspeaking or getting things mixed up, or looking back on something she did that she knows thinks was embarrassing. She gets embarrassed less and less as she gets older and simply stops caring
9. How much shame does your oc feel about themself or their past? Do they brush stuff off and feel carefree, or stay up at night recounting mistakes?
She tries to avoid dwelling too much on things she's done and mistakes she's made, and while there's always gonna be some things she'd be ashamed of, she'd rather just own up to the major suff and accept it if she can. Granted, her attempting to do so won't exactly stop her from dreaming about certain aspects, or occasionally laying in bed thinking about them before she passes out
11. If your oc could go back in time and change one moment from their life, would they, and what moment would they change?
She would want to go back to when she was a young adult and try to take little Derrick and leave their parents the first chance she got
Derrick:
1. Does your oc have any secrets? Whats their biggest one?
There's probably a lot of stuff he'd want to keep secret, but I'm tickled by the thought of his biggest secret being something benign or so old that it's not really worth keeping a secret at this point, like something extremely minor he did when he was younger that was so mortifying or terrifying to his little kid brain that he was determined to take it to his grave, such as accidentally losing or breaking something that belonged to Darryl, or their parents
4. Are there any secrets your oc has shared with other characters? If so, who, and what secrets?
Derrick strikes me as someone whose open enough about stuff that he wouldn't have too many genuine secrets, and that the ones he might have would be significant enough (to him, at least) that he wouldn't dream of telling a soul about them unless he really trusts the person or had reason to
Confesses the minor little kid fuckup he did that he refuses to tell Darryl to his gf/Danse and they're just like??? What's so bad about that?
6. How does your oc react to being told someone else’s secret? Do they lock it up tight, or spread it around?
Very solemnly and seriously promising to keep it to himself and, depending on what it was, most likely forgetting what they even told him
10. Is there anything your oc wants or likes that they have to keep secret, like a guilty pleasure? Anything that would get them ostracized, attacked, or just insulted for saying it out loud?
Oh he absolutely strikes me as someone who would have his fair share of guilty pleasures, just more along the lines of relatively harmless stuff like food preferences or maybe a weird kink
13. If your oc had one day where they could do anything without being caught, what would they do?
Be an absolute lazy bastard and not do a single thing without having to worry about other responsibilities

ok here goes
🌼🍀❄⚡ for Butch
💐🌵🌳 for Lily
🌷🌻🌲☀️ for Darryl
🌹🌱🌴☘ for Derrick
🌸💐☘💧 for Amsel
🍀🍂🌈 for Elster
🌼🌱🌙☁️ for Lucia
And Kevin :) 🌲🌴🌟🍃
There's something about the "and Kevin :)" that really tickles me
Butch:
🌼- What's your favorite thing about this oc?
Honestly, probably their design, since I did go very "Now what would I find appealing/cool as shit"
🍀- Around when does this oc get up in the morning?
Assuming there's not anywhere they need to be by a certain time or a specific schedule they need to keep, generally around 7-8 on a normal day, and around 10-11 if they're feeling lazy
❄- What's this oc's favorite and least favorite food?
Well most fruits would fall under favorites, but they wouldn’t like really really bitter stuff, or things that are excessively hard or crunchy
⚡- How well does this oc sleep?
They’d be a fairly light sleeper overall, but I don’t think they’d have any issues sleeping until after they get unfrozen. I’m thinking they’d be the type of person to put off going to bed bc they just get caught up in doing something, but would sleep relatively fine regardless. Any issues they have sleeping post-war would mostly stem from them just kinda having a bad time, and some funky new nightmare problems
Lily:
💐- Where is this oc's favorite place to relax?
Up in a tree somewhere
🌵- How does this oc feel about physical affection?
Pretty good, it just takes a minute for her to be sure if she’s comfortable with someone or not
🌳- Does this oc collect anything?
She’ll collect anything and everything that she thinks is interesting, from rocks and shells to notebooks, supplies, stuffed animals,
Darryl:
🌷- How does this oc take their coffee?
Might add a splash of creamer, but that’s about it
🌻- What's this oc's mental health state?
:/
She’s doing as well as someone in her position can do, but there was definitely a reason why she saw a therapist before the war, and not having one after would certainly suck a little
🌲- What is this oc's greatest strength and weakness?
Greatest strength would probably be her ability to put up with people when she has to, weakness would be her refusal to let people get too close,
☀️- Does this oc make good or bad first impressions?
I feel like it would kinda depend on the type of person she’s meeting, since she’d generally make decent enough first impressions, but there’s always gonna be people who are dipshits and just don’t like her bc they feel threatened
Derrick:
🌹- What's this oc's biggest fear
Being useless
🌱- Does this oc have any pets? Do they have any pets they want?
Don’t think he had any pets before the war - or he didn’t at the time it happened - but he wouldn't turn up the chance to get a dog or several
🌴- Who is this oc's favorite person?(Can be another oc, a fictional character, a celebrity, anyone)
Not sure he’d be able to pick a favorite person, tbh
☘- Does this oc have any piercings? Do they want any?
He strikes me as someone who’d think facial piercings are cool, tho atm I’m unsure if he’d have any, or where
Amsel:
🌸- What's this oc's favorite and least favorite color?
Favorite is yellow, doesn’t care too much about others to have a least favorite
💐- Where is this oc's favorite place to relax?
Anywhere on her own
☘- Does this oc have any piercings? Do they want any?
Doesn’t have any and wouldn’t trust anyone in the mojave to give her one. If she had the option to get some safely, then snakebites or a bridge piercing
💧- What is this oc most passionate about?
Between not having any kind of education and having to work the way she does, I’m not sure she’d know much to be passionate about. I could see her taking an interest in things like crafting or making things
Elster:
🍀- Around when does this oc get up in the morning?
Around whenever the sun comes up
🍂- What music does this oc like?
Mainly what gets played on the radio stations, since that’s what’s most widely available to him, but would be a big fan of folk music if it was more prevalent. Would listen to almost anything, tho
🌈- What does this oc like and dislike about themselves?
Not sure he’d ever really think about himself enough to “like” or “dislike” certain aspects. He’d certainly be frustrated with how his head injury fucked up his ability to do a lot of things. Could also see him having a little bit of an ego based partially around his communication skills
Lucia:
🌼- What's your favorite thing about this oc?
Despite having never been religious myself, I just think it’s interesting to explore ways in which religion affects characters and the way they think, and how that changes if they leave said religion behind. Also I just like the concept of ghouls not all being the same and having a wide range of variation between them, and variation depending on how long they’ve been “ghouls”
🌱- Does this oc have any pets? Do they have any pets they want?
She wouldn’t have had any while in the CoA, but she’d be open to adopting something smaller after leaving probably a rescue animal tbh
🌙- Does this oc have any unusual hobbies?
I don’t think any of her hobbies could be considered weird, though she likely wouldn’t have many until after she leaves far harbor and actually has the freedom to pick some up without worrying about the CoA dictating what she can and can’t do. Mostly thinking she’d be doing a lot of reading once she leaves
☁️- What is this oc's clothing style like?
Before leaving the CoA just variations of the Atom robes. Considering what would and wouldn’t be available the CoA bothe before getting to far harbor and after they get banished to the rest of the island, I feel like the majority of the clothing they all wear would be made of hide or leather or furs. After leaving the island and being able to have access to a wider variety of stuff, she might like to try out some more colorful clothing. The specific vibe I was thinking of was like “sundress, hat, and shawl over a pair of jeans and boots” look
Kevin:
🌲- What is this oc's greatest strength and weakness?
Kevin is just really easy to ignore or not notice, which is both a strength and a weakness depending on the situation. It’s a strength when he needs to not be noticed, but a weakness the rest of the time cause he’s so used to it affects the way he interacts or rather doesn’t interact with people
🌴- Who is this oc's favorite person?(Can be another oc, a fictional character, a celebrity, anyone)
He would’ve like most of his younger siblings before he had to leave home, though he doesn’t exactly hold out any hope of ever seeing any of them again
🌟- Is this oc good at expressing themself through words or do they have to use other means?
He’s admittedly pretty bad at it, yeah. It was never a strong suit, but since he’s pretty easy to ignore - and was mostly just told what to do when he wasn’t - it wasn’t something he had to practice that often
🍃- Describe this oc in one word
Inept

okay so. If I remember right, Derrick joined up with the BOS with the goal to get out there more and hopefully find clues for the whereabouts of his son. He also has a military history pre-war, which wasn't necessarily all that positive, was it?
I guess my question is: is he as anti-military as Darryl? To a lesser degree? Not against it at all?
Was joining up with the BOS a necessary evil for him in order to find his son? Did he like it anyway? Did it grow on him after working with them?
Long story short: how does Derrick feel about the BOS
I think Derrick's feelings about the bos are kinda complicated, as were his feelings about the pre-war military
To start, both Derrick and Darryl grew up in a military family. There were a lot of people in their extended family who were actively in it, and for the most part the family had pretty good opinions of them. Some didn't or had bad opinions, but they weren't included much
Growing up, Darryl had a pretty positive view of the military, but grew less so as she got older and learned about them more, but by the time she joined she was still just kinda indifferent about them, maybe feeling pretty unsure. But as that post a while back said about how the military is a cult, she joined anyways after enough pressure from her family - despite the growing feelings she had that maybe the military isn’t so good, nor her family. And since she had to step up and take care of Derrick where their parents fell short, a lot of her views got mixed up with some of the views their family tried to push onto him
He was around 11 when Darryl joined the military and saw it for what it was, after which she wasn’t around as much to combat the stuff their parents told him, so he had a lot of uncertainty because: on the one hand, this is what his parents and a lot of his extended family is saying, and he’s still young and impressionable, but on the other hand he does remember some of the stuff Darryl told him. And he’d feel like he should trust what Darryl has to say about it bc she always seemed to care more than the rest of their family and he generally trusted her with most other stuff, and because of that - even tho their family tried really hard to get him to believe them - he’d have felt really uneasy and not so good about the stuff they said, even if he can’t quite reject or dispute it
Anyways. That being said, Derrick knew that the military was kinda not that good before he joined up - bc of Darryl’s influence when he was growing up, and bc of the stuff she told him after she joined - but he was, ultimately, still pretty dependent on and easily coerced or talked into doing stuff he maybe didn’t really want to do by their family. I mean, he was like 18 when he was pressured into joining. Tho I’m sure that the fact that there was a war about to break out certainly didn’t help
But I doubt it took long for Derrick to go from “hey maybe the military isn’t really that good” to “oh my god these guys are horrible, why did I let my parents talk me into doing this”. He really didn’t like being in the military. He didn’t like what they did, the way they operated, what they stood for, and he definitely didn’t like what he had to do while in the military. I think he would at least be as anti-military as Darryl, but I can’t decide if he would be any more or less than her. They both grew up in the cult of military culture and military families, and they’ve both been funneled into it despite how they might feel about it, so they’re both pretty against it
As far as the bos goes, I think that the intentions behind joining up were genuinely from a necessary evil standpoint. However, after he was in, I think that there was definitely an aspect of, like, old habits dying hard, or like relapsing into a self-destructive tendency. I’m having a hard time thinking of the right way to phrase it atm, but the closest comparison I can think of is an abuse victim continuously ending up in abusive situations, or a cult survivor getting roped into another cult. Partially bc they’ve grown somewhat accustomed to or dependent on the dynamic, but also partially bc they don’t really have the ability to get out that situation on their own
Which means that even tho Darryl was able to find Kellogg and the kids, he wasn’t really able to extricate himself from the bos until blind betrayal happened, something drastic enough that he more or less had to. Although, I don’t think that that was the only reason he stayed in the bos. There’s also the fact that it would be extremely helpful to have insider info on the bos and the stuff they’re getting up to
As far as his opinion on the bos, he’d initially think of them the same way he felt about the military. But, once he and Danse start getting closer, he’d end up in a similar situation that he was in with his family when he was younger; where he logically knows that the group is bad, but he’s still subject to being influenced by certain people in the group whom he feels he should listen to, regardless of whether or not he trusts them. Which he doesn’t

actually that reminds me, everyone who worked in some kind of official government job pre war has a chance of having an advantage when faced with various pre war tech. Like having a particular clearance level recognized by robots, being able to access places that are still restricted to this day, etc.
If Darryl worked on that kind of level I reckon she can benefit from it. Hector as well, but probably under one or multiple different names he might not remember. Butch might as well, but maybe it was a bit too early in the progress of tech and they were actively sabotaged - so perhaps on the one or other outdated database that Darryl and Hector in turn can't access.
I don't have anything tangible to connect this to but it might be a fun plot device to keep in mind if anything comes up
Oh yeah, good point
I think that if Darryl went the hitman route before the war, then a lot of access she had from her military days would be revoked. Stuff like recognition and ID software wouldn't let her in anymore, but she would still remember old passwords and codes - if applicable - and maybe she might be able to dig up her old files in the systems and get them to let her in, or know how to fabricate some form of ID to get in, or she might know how to trick the system into letting her in, or hell, she might just know other people's info and use that to get in
But then again, it's not like she'd have been dishonorably discharged or anything, more like retired. And if she still has some acquaintances and contacts in the military, and maybe does some shady work for some officers on occasion, then she might actually retain a pretty decent amount of access, and could probably bullshit her way past certain security measures or robots
I also don't know if Butch would have had that much access before they were frozen, and possibly even less was they were frozen and sabotaged. I mean, yeah they were a pretty important asset in the cryo research, but they weren't that privy to anything even remotely secretive or official. Partially because after they got discharged from the military, they lost any access they had, and since they didn't rejoin when they got hired for the research, what they had wasn't reinstated. But also bc as a cryo researcher, they weren't technically working for the military again, more like. A group that worked closely with and was often hired by the military
I think Derrick would still have a decent amount of access to pre war military shit as well, which might actually come in handy with the bos once he joins up. Idk if he'd have that much access, but he'd at least be in the system and know how to navigate it

A 1+3, C 5, F 1, and K 3 for Daryl (I cannot remember how to spell things I’m sorry) or Derrick I couldn’t decide
Tell ya what, I’ll do both of them
Darryl:
A1. What are your oc’s natural abilities, things they’ve been doing since young?
Stepping up for herself and others, taking on/being given responsibility
A3. What abilities do they have that they’ve worked for?
Her carving skills. It wasn’t something she picked up until she joined the military and needed something to do while waiting whenever she was deployed, and she wasn’t really that good at it for a long time
C5. Who is the best at comforting them when down?
Already answered
F1. What do they do for fun?
Likes to keep busy, whether by doing yardwork/chores that she’s been slacking on since she’s not home that often, also reading if she has the time
K 3. If they could kill anyone without punishment, would they? who?
Most of the people she worked for before the great war
Derrick:
A1. What are your oc’s natural abilities, things they’ve been doing since young?
Already answered
A3. What abilities do they have that they’ve worked for?
Also already answered
C5. Who is the best at comforting them when down?
Either Darryl, Danse, or his wife. Or literally any dog
F1. What do they do for fun?
He likes to hang out with people and socialize
K 3. If they could kill anyone without punishment, would they? who?
That asshole Maxson

Darryl: C, F, G, N, O, Z. Derrick: A, E, I, R, W
Sweet
Darryl:
C: Comfort
1. How do they sit in a chair?
Correctly
2. In what position do they sleep?
Falls asleep on her side, and stays that way for the most part
3. What is their ideal comfort day?
One where she doesn’t have to interact with anyone and can take a day to chill and relax. Wouldn’t know what to do with herself, though. Might take a bath or read a book, might clean her rifle, maybe take a nap outside
4. What is their major comfort food? Why?
The snack cakes. Historically, the only person she ever shares them with is Derrick though she might share with Hector if he asks nicely
5. Who is the best at comforting them when down?
Derrick, if not because he knows her the most, then because he’s known her the longest
F: Fun
1. What do they do for fun?
2. What is their ideal party?
One she doesn’t have to go to. But if she has to, then those formal parties where everyone is expected to behave and she doesn’t have to yell over music
3. Who would they have the most fun with?
Wanna say Hector, since she actually drops the tough act with him
4. Can they have fun while conforming to rules?
That would imply that she would stick to the rules in the first place, but if she has to, then she’ll find a way
5. Do they go out a lot?
Not often, no. Only when someone wants her to go with them, or if she needs a drink and doesn’t have anything at home that will cut it
G: Gorgeous
1. What is their most attractive external feature?
Personally, I like her face, but I guess it depends on who’s looking at her
2. What is the most attractive part of their personality?
Not entirely sure what that means. Confidence, maybe? Her refusal to take any shit? The fact that she just seems like someone who knows what they’re doing/has authority?
3. What benefits come with being their friend?
Activation of the Mom Friend Protocols. Also doesn’t judge that much
4. What parts of them do they like and dislike?
I’m sure she cared at least some when she was younger, but now she doesn’t care enough about analyzing herself to the point of having likes and dislikes about herself
N: Never Have I Ever
1. What would they never do?
Intentionally hurt someone she cares about
2. What have they never done that they want to do?
Visit another place for the sake of actually visiting, and not for work-related reasons
3. Is there anything they absolutely can’t believe people do?
At this point, no
4. What is the most embarrassing thing they’ve done?
Cried in front of another person
5. Have they done anything they thought they’d never do?
You mean besides see the start of a nuclear war and get frozen for 200 years? Ending up in a committed relationship that’s actually healthy and that she’s serious about
O: Optimism
1. Are they optimistic or pessimistic?
Tries to avoid being either of them if she can help it, and tries to focus on just getting through things, since worrying about it won’t help
3. Are they good at giving advice?
Depends on what the advice is for, but it probably won’t be, like, that bad
4. Is there anyone in their life that throws optimism on them?
Any optimism she lacks will be supplied by Derrick
Z: Zebra
1. What’s their favorite animal?
She likes dogs, considering how loyal and affectionate they can get. Plus, they can be invaluable if trained right
2. Do they like animals?
For the most part, but isn’t super crazy about them. It’s more like she just doesn’t mind them
5. Do they have any pets at the moment?
Just her hound Sarah and Dogmeat. Any puppies are given to the minutemen
Derrick:
A: Aptitude
1. What are your oc’s natural abilities, things they’ve been doing since young?
Making friends, maybe a sport or two
2. What activities have they participated in?
I could see him doing track or (american) soccer when he was in school. Likes to go out with friends when he can
3. What abilities do they have that they’ve worked for?
Has had to put in a lot of work to get at least semi-decent at cooking. Will still fuck up majorly if he’s not careful. Also had to work really hard to stop laughing whenever he gets nervous
4. What things are they bad at?
Keeping his facial expressions under control
5. What is their most impressive talent?
Ability to be serious and actually competent/capable when the situation calls for it.
E: External Personality
1. Does the way they do things portray their internal personality?
Assuming I’m reading this correctly, I think so? He doesn’t really try to hide his internal personality, so it’s not that difficult to figure out
2. Do they do things that conform to the norm?
He might try to out of peer pressure, but he’s not that good at it
3. Do they follow trends or do their own thing?
He follows trends that he thinks are fun, but will otherwise do his own thing
4. Are they up-to-date on the internet fads?
More than Darryl, but less than most people
I: In-the-closet
1. What is their sexuality?
He’s bi
2. Have they ever questioned their sexuality?
I don’t think it was a situation that required a lot of “questioning” so much as he just kind of of accepted the fact that everyone is pretty
3. Have they ever questioned their gender?
Might have gave it a minute or so of thought if someone asked him, but no more than that
4. Would/was their family be okay with them being LGBT?
Since I’ve been trying to fix some stuff regarding backstories, I think acceptance would be more like that casual acceptance that also feels a little alienating. Like, “yeah, we don’t care if you like dick or not, even if we do think it’s a little odd. Just don’t try to shove it in our faces and we’re fine”
5. How long would/did it take for them to come out?
Don’t think he really had a moment where he officially “came out” so much as it was just something about him that people learned as they got to know him, like any other detail, since it wouldn’t really be something he cared to try and hide
R: Rules
1. Do they follow rules?
He tries his best, but sometimes rules aren’t that good and shouldn’t be followed
2. Would they be a strict or laid-back parent?
The more laid back one, since he’d feel bad about being strict, and worry about whether or not he was being too hard or not hard enough
3. Have they ever been consequenced for breaking a rule?
Is this supposed to say “Have they ever faced consequences for breaking a rule”? Because most people have (in school, at home, at work, etc), but most of his would be when he was in the military, and chose to do something else instead of outright killing something (incapacitating them, distracting them, letting someone he thinks was innocent get away, stuff like that)
4. Have they broken any rules they now regret breaking?
Nope
W: Water
1. do they drink enough water?
He does is best, but sometimes forgets
2. Have they learned to swim?
Not well, but he can
3. Do they like to swim?
He doesn’t hate it, but would prefer to hang out in more shallow areas
4. Can they dive?
Not really
5. Can they swim without holding their nose?
Absolutely not

@rockshortage The dynamic between Butch and Derrick was one of the first things about their character that I ended up fleshing out, tbh
They really like Derrick, and got along with him about as well as they could, considering the situation they were all in after getting unfrozen. I actually have had a post in my drafts for a while talking about how the two of them get along while they're still helping Preston get the Minutemen back on their feet, before Darryl becomes general and Derrick joins the bos
He didn't try to push their buttons if he could help it, he didn't try to pry for info if they didn't want to share, and he was open enough about himself and friendly that Butch would've felt comfortable enough to trust him a lot more than they'd trust most of the people they met in the following months. Derrick himself being queer would've made them feel comfortable sharing stuff about their own queerness, and they ended up backing each other up a lot whenever they got sent out on jobs
And I can't remember if I mentioned this or not, but Butch didn't decide to leave and go off on their own until Derrick left for the bos, since they were turning out to be buddies by thay point. I mean, Butch was still having a really really fucking hard time and was just starting to really Go Through It, but at least there was someone else from before the war who really understood what they were going through
And Darryl being Darryl, she dealt with it on her own and only confided in Derrick, so even though she and Butch were on amicable terms, the only person they could really turn to for any kind of moral support was Derrick
That being said, they weren't so close that they would've been considered good friends, more like "this guy has gone through the same horrible trauma that I have and so we sympathize with each other, and we're ready willing to watch each other's backs when shit gets real"
Now, if Derrick hadn't joined the bos and had instead stayed with the Minutemen, Butch likely wouldn't have left. And if they hadn't left, then they wouldn't have gotten as bad as they did. Because while they might have been struggling really fucking hard, there were still friendly and compassionate people around them, and even just being in the environment they were in kept some of the worst of it at bay
But Derrick left. And Butch doesn't have a problem helping people, just not on the level the Minutemen do. So they didn't see any reason to stick around and left
