wanted to do some color-themed oc + otherwise groups… maybe got a little carried away!! 💦💦 I was just making these for fun, but now my brain is all over wondering what they'd be like working together on something. a game show. a social experiment on an island. they have to work together to solve puzzles or fight things and run into each other along the way. you know how it is.

I started thinking about how edward would immediately become the leader of team red, how drew is surrounded by a bunch of ladies with a thirst for violence plus an evil god chicken, how arthur would dedicate himself to protecting his group (and tolerating felix) and how he carries the entire team, how team green has the most argumentative people that are barely being held together, and how team purple is pretty good at getting along and has a comical dynamic considering it contains dez, monster people AND louis. I was gonna say team blue is the obligatory disadvantaged team, but they have the most hilarious family dynamic and are led by the biggest pacifists of everyone here and will probably end up befriending a dragon. also kage is there and he's the weird uncle.

So who are obsidian and jade?

so damien (obsidian) and adrien (jade) are two characters of mine that come from a series that is tangentially related to the undertale multiverse. it was originally called jade's multiverse, or jmv (because adrien, then jade, was the titular character,) but i've renamed it to be called 'polarity'.

this name comes from the focus on positive and negative magic that has roots in dreamtale (an undertale au). there were physical extreme manifestations of positive and negative magic, named radiance and corruption, as canonized in the 'toasty cinematic universe', which is a 100k-word-ish-long roleplay containing jmv characters alongside characters from other utmv aus (DINTIS and dreamswap)*. if you consider the spectrum of magic to be a magnet, radiance and corruption are the different polar ends (north and south, radiance and corruption, positive and negative, you get the picture). thus, polarity. im so clever

the tl;dr of damien and adrien is that they're both magical spirits that inhabit semi-human hosts and are a guardian of a magical tree that is the font of light and dark magic. damien is the guardian of dark magic, and adrien is the guardian of light magic. in the lore of polarity specifically, these guardians are quasi-immortal and do not die of old age or illness. when killed, these guardians will reincarnate into a randomly chosen family somewhere across the world of polarity, avatar the last airbender style. adrien is around 5 years older than damien, and both were born into separate families before being taken away and brought to the tree where they grew up together. later in the story, damien takes all the magic from the tree and becomes... basically a god, with all the power it gives him, and adrien, not wanting to leave damien or for damien to leave him, follows suit quite powerlessly as damien begins world conquest. there's a shit ton more of important context and detail (cough cough more lore and also like, character motivations) but this is a SIMPLE QUESTION being asked of me i will NOT go on for a million years

also important, adrien and damien's relationship has gone through a looot of iterations, mostly because i created them six years ago when i was a teenager and put like... so much edgy stuff in it without rhyme or reason. their relationship was originally a cesspool of one-sided abuse and trauma inflicted onto adrien, and it kind of still is, and the codependency is a huge theme i want to continue exploring with them, but to do that i have to like, rewrite their whole origin story, etc etc, explain how adrien came to live with damien, rewrite literally every other character because it's an ensemble cast and they also got Beam of Edgy Teenager that i need to fix, so on and so forth...

anyways i've been like. i've been thinking about them. can you tell

(*the tcu was important in experimenting with a lot of the polarity characters, but i no longer consider its events canon to polarity because a lot of the things i am going to rewrite into polarity will directly contradict things established in the tcu.)

[ID: He slumps into an armchair and sadly puffs on his cigar. A young boy with scruffy dark hair walks in with a bottle rocket. /end] Jiggs: It's a funny world. George Washington fought fer freedom. Then he got married! Kid: Unkie, shoot off fire-works tonight!

[ID: Jiggs stands and orders his butler around, handing him a small envelope. The kid messes with his rocket behind Jiggs. /end] Jiggs: Perkins, if you'll slip over to Dinty Moore's an' tell him to run a ladder up to my room, I'll give you $50. Here's a note fer Dinty. [ID: The kid sits down in front of Jiggs' desk and plugs his ears, the rocket on his lap. Jiggs hurriedly puts his suit jacket on. /end] Jiggs: I'll be all ready to make me get-away just as soon as the ladder shows up!

[ID: Perkins walks back into the room, his clothes torn up and several bandages on his head. /end] Perkins: Mrs. Jiggs took the note and read it, I'm discharged. Jiggs: You look it!

[ID: Jiggs stands on the roof, balancing the rocket on his chimney and carefully aiming it out into the town. The envelope is tied to the back end. /end] Jiggs: I'll tie the note tot he rocket an' shoot it into Dinty's room!

[ID: He fires the rocket and it whizzes off-panel to the right. /end] Jiggs: Bull's eye! Right into Dinty's room. I'll bet he'll be surprised!

[ID: Jiggs returns to his room, happily putting on his jacket as the ladder arrives. /end] Jiggs: Ah! Dinty's a friend to be proud of. He's one in a million!

[ID: Jiggs climbs down the ladder, surprised to meet Perkins, his ex-butler, there. /end] Jiggs: Why, Perkins, I thought you went to Dinty's! Perkins: Beg pardon, sir, but I got the ladder, sir. I didn't want you to lose out!

[ID: They walk down the street together, Perkins slouching behind a merrily strutting Jiggs, both with cigars in their mouths. /end] Perkins: It's very kind of you, sir, to take me along, sir! Jiggs: When we git to Dinty's, I'll show you a swell blow-out!

JMV:

Obsidian: JMV Nightmare. evil bastard. He has lightning magic in addition to tentacles, which I myself forget about constantly.

Jade: JMV Dream. Heavy Stockholm syndrome. Green bean. His soul is half positivity and half corruption.

Koroit: JMV Error. The zappy hands lady. The only one even kind of willing to work for Obsidian’s bitchass. Amnesiac, and one of the strongest of the team.

Zircon: JMV Cross. Stoic and aloof. A widowed father whose child is missing. Obsidian claims she’s still alive, which is the only reason Zircon hasn’t tried to fight back.

Paraiba: JMV Dust. Chatty girl who can see souls, which is unusual for non-spirits/guardians. Working for Obsidian, because her other option is dying. Obsidian killed her best friend/sibling (all the info about Ruby seems to be missing, so I don’t remember for sure. But Ruby is supposed to be her Papyrus, so…probably sibling?).

Silver: JMV Killer. Mute, uses sign language. Besties with Paraiba; they’re inseparable. And like Paraiba, Silver’s alternative to working for Obsidian is being killed. She/they enby. Very cool, they are

Jasper: JMV Horror. Not a cannibal. The manor’s maid and cook. The only one aside from Obsidian who has keys for the dungeon/cell block in the basement. He’s a sweetheart tbh; very different from canon OG Horror.

Mercury: JMV Science Sans! The doctor. Very very good doctor, too. He’s very good at manipulating the natural magic in people’s bodies to speed up healing. He’s the reason Obsidian can’t make Jade a full corrupt.

Lazuli (usually just ‘Zuli’): JMV Swap Sans. Trans man, stuck in a cell in the basement. He is not having a good time. He is in fact having the worst time. He doesn’t even get pants.

DINTIS:

Jet: DINTIS Nightmare. Even in-universe ‘Jet’ is only a nickname; his real name is still Nightmare. Suave fucker. Evil bastard. …Not quite as evil as Obsidian though. Very, very attached to Dark.

Dark: DINTIS Dream. Ball of anxiety most of the time. Despite Jet’s attempts to get Dark to be more selfish and less of a do-gooder, he’s still got a very strong moral compass. Also needs to get away from Jet but he’s too busy being glad they’re ‘friends’ again.

Note: Jade and Obsidian aren’t related. Neither are Jet and Dark.

Ahem

A long ass time ago Wheeze and I went ‘hm. What if nice JMV AU’

More specifically, we had been spinning around the concept of Obsidian/Zircon, which would be very awful for Zircon in the normal AU. And that was fun for a bit, but then we were sorta like ‘ok but what if it was. okay. and soft’

So through power of ‘I have been playing D&D recently what if we made it a fantasy AU’ and pure fucking stubbornness we made it. And of course we threw DINTIS in there because it’s damn near impossible to have one without the other when it comes to us making AUs

It has since grown to include (counts on fingers) 4 AUs of JMV and DINTIS (each), DreamSwap, and H!DS. The two DS ones mirror each other quite a bit, but to be fair so do the original versions

Obsidian, Jade, Silver, Paraiba, and Jasper are merchants. Obsidian’s a blacksmith, Jade owns a general store that caters mainly to adventurers, Silver and Paraiba run an apothecary, and Jasper has a bakery.

Mercury is of course the local doctor.

Zuli, Koroit, and Zircon are sellswords. They’re often hired by people who need an escort to a nearby town, or take care of monsters nearby threatening the town.

Zircon’s family is alive and well! They’re doing great.

Obsidian’s pretty chill. He’s sarcastic and snarky and tends to make fun of people, but he got zapped with the ‘good person’ beam by god (wheeze and i) so he’s a pretty good guy. No murder no nasty shit just a severe case of RBF and an excess of distrust for strangers.

The group is all very close. Besties, if you will. Obsidian and Jade especially so.

And then Dark the warlock and Jet the demon roll into town

Jet’s a little shit still and an agent of chaos but he, like Obsidian, has been bonked with the Good Person Hammer and is overall a much much nicer person.

Dark and Jet have a contract, and Jet’s supposed to do as Dark says. But it’s very lax because Dark trusts Jet a lot and doesn’t want to control everything Jet does. They actually have a pretty healthy relationship AND they even actually talked about things….and they’re both on the same page about their feelings…insanity

The only trauma comes from when, for plot reasons, their home town gets wrecked. They have to go on a big epic journey to find a new home. They end up meeting the DS fools at some of the other AUs hanging around.

Officially, the AU is mostly about the JMV/DINTIS idiots and their journey. H!DS and most of our other AUs are more side-characters.

An incredibly niche fic series where I rip apart everyone’s derogatory favorite Danganronpa V3-inspired fan character, featuring lucid dreams, existential crises, depression and kissing your idiot hot inner demon. The character list has increased significantly since it started, featuring counterparts for other V3 characters as well. Last updated August 2022.

🗡 Dreamswap - Open Setting, No Ongoing Story

An ‘AU’ based on the UTMV outcodes. It originally got its name from being centered around Dream and Nightmare switching roles. Other characters have also switched roles in unique ways, but at this point, the swap thing is basically obsolete due to the convoluted nature of the lore. A comedy-heavy setting despite its themes. This was being adapted into a separate story called Fatal Flaws.

❤️  Greyscale - Comic (Hiatus)

An Undertale comic about two humans with drastically different ideas on how problems should be solved who end up in the Underground at the same time and have to work together to make their way through it. Hiatus since 2019. Any comebacks would be a complete rework.

🌙 Darkness Is Nicer Than It Seems - No Ongoing Story

Forced into heroism, Dark has been at odds with his power-hungry childhood companion Jet for an indefinite amount of time, but he decides that continuing to fight him is not worth it anymore. A Dreamtale alternate timeline. Its tag is #dintis.

An interactive story dedicated to Nightmare and Dream, except they were combined into one person and they had no idea how. A post was released explaining the remainder of the story. The last comic strip was in 2019.
