See, it's shit like this that's exactly what the less than enthused among us have been worried about, and what we've been saying about tennant overshadowing Fifteen right out of the gate. I've seen like half a dozen posts of this type since xmas, and nobody seems aware of the cognitive dissonance of insisting that David didn't overshadow Ncuti and then turning around and saying that they wish tenthree and Donna would show up in the middle of Fifteen's actual run just for funsies. Like, this isn't saying goodbye to David Tennant, it's refusing to care about Ncuti Gatwa without the incentive of hoping that DT will show up again. Y'all would literally rather watch ten&donna's adventures at tesco than watch the first Black doctor without them.

"The Toymaker is the BIGGEST threat to the universe, he is so powerful"
Except we don't really see him doing anything threatening, he turns a guy into a puppet which is scary but it's not really mentioned again
"The Toymaker LOVES games and can manipulate reality, change the laws of time and space, can grow gigantic and control us all"
Except we sit for an hour waiting for some really cool games, but with all that power he plays exactly two games, one is cards, and one is catch - allegedly the first game and thus one he should be really really good at, but the doctor just throws the ball super hard and he loses

if rtd makes "every doctor can coexist and live out their days after their regeneration, every doctor bi-generated" a thing i'm gonna be SO mad. if that's the truth i need the next showrunner to reverse it IMMEDIATELY. like. that's the magic of doctor who to me. showing how love and loss are intertwined forever and you cant have one without the other, change sucks big time but it's also necessary and might be something positive as you go along !! things canyt be static however much you'd like to it. like if that's not the message of doctor who anymore, why bother making the show???

I don’t think I’ll be able to shut up about how awful Yaz’s send off was for a while. I’m so sorry for the negativity but Yaz is my favourite companion, and I love Mandip so much, they both deserved so much more than what they were given!
Yaz has been with The Doctor for at least 10 years, Yaz is in love with The Doctor. There is no way you will ever convince me that she left The Doctor - her Doctor - without putting up a fight! That’s what Yaz is all about, she’s feisty and she’s so full of love, she has grown so much as a character but it felt like she’s just gone full circle. Right back to the start when she was a 19 year old who lacked confidence in herself.
And, as I mentioned, Yaz is in love with The Doctor! It was portrayed so well throughout series 12 and Flux, and acknowledged brilliantly in EOTD and LOTSD. But it was not concluded in LOTSD like Chibnall seemed to think it was? For most of the conversations between her and 13 about their feelings, The Doctor was the one doing most of the talking. That just doesn’t feel believable, Yaz speaks her mind, that’s a huge part of her character. I just don’t believe she wouldn’t fight to keep her Doctor in her life.
I didn’t need a kiss, hell they didn’t need a kiss, but more acknowledgement was necessary. They should have held hands more, they should have hugged more, it wouldn’t have been hard to fit into the episode. At the very least they could have said ‘I love you’ ! All that build up, all the hope Chris gave to us queer fans, and for what? Seriously what was the fucking point? Because it feels like all that build up was just ignored right at the end, right at the moment where it should have meant the most.
I’ve grown up disappointed by representation, there are so so many shows I have watched where there are two women so clearly in love that most of the fan base ships them, only to have it never acknowledged. I got used to that. But then I found Doctor Who! The first episode from 13’s era that I watched was Revolution of The Daleks, and that got me to watch all of modern Doctor Who just so I could catch up. Do you know why? Because when I first watched that episode I 100% believed that The Doctor and Yaz were canonically in love! I was so happy! Then I caught up and got disappointed again, it hurt but I expected it. But then, they became canon! I was ecstatic! Finally I found another show where they actually listened to fans, where the queer characters were acknowledged. Only to have it end like this?
Not to mention Tegan, Ace and Kate - all of who are so clearly queer. Not a single one of them got any notion of queerness. It’s just not right, queer people exist in real life, let us exist in media, let us see loud and proud queer characters!
Yaz deserved more, 13 deserved more, but honestly the queer fans deserved more. This episode was meant to be one for the Whovians, and I loved it, truly I did, but the ending makes it feel like the queer whovians were left out.

I love Rose to bits and she is one of my childhood heroes, but I have seen one too many edits today claiming that she is the only important companion, plus some editors saying that anybody who claims she isn't their favourite female companion, is lying to themselves?? We all have our favourites, but they are all amazing and unique, why are we pitting these great women against eachother?

It’s still so bizarre to me that the Timeless Child was first mentioned in the second episode of series 11. Like, it literally makes no sense from a pacing standpoint. It gets mentioned as set up, completely dropped for the rest of the season and then suddenly reappears as the main plot in series 12 again like, what???
I mean, if Chibnall wanted to foreshadow the Timeless Child for series 12 why not have the first mention of it be in the series 11 finale? It would be something to keep viewers hooked for the next season instead of coming across as a dropped/unresolved plot thread in series 11 before suddenly being the main plot of series 12 and seeming like it kinda came out of nowhere.
Literally, what was with the pacing with all of this???

doctor who criticism/negativity below
god I truly hate the timeless child plot so much I basically don't even consider it as canon. it's so terrible holy cow man
like i cant even remotely consider it canon when i think about the doctor because going from ‘person who ran away from their home in a time machine and then went on to do amazing and terrible things’ is just
so much more meaningful than OUHHH AND SECRETLY THEYRE THE MOST SPECIAL PERSON EVER
the doctor is already like really really special on their own, we didnt need this. at all
like just fuck off
and now its just in the show and canon and probably gonna keep having repercussions it drives me insane because i just want to forget it ever happened

Okay but Donna. DONNA. She gets to live her life with both her husband AND her platonic life partner. She'd wanted to be with him forever and now she CAN. She gets both a permanent romantic and permanent platonic partner. Who like each other. Who don't resent the other's existence. Do you understand how MONUMENTAL that is???

thinking about time lords and their fucked up little society again and i just realized how devastating the revelation of the drums in the end of time is in relation to the master's character.
because of all the renegade time lords in the universe, i think it's the master who most exemplifies the philosophical outlook that the time lords have towards the rest of the universe. they're stuffy observers, administrators, yes - but this position is one they've decided for themselves because of this concept of supremacy over other life forms. imposed and upheld this idea that other species that lack a time sense are less-than, primitive. and the master buys into this hard.
and i mean... compared to the doctor, the master is good at being a time lord. he buys into these supremacist concepts, this idea that every other species (and especially humans) is practically a meaningless ant in the grand scheme of the universe. takes it to the extreme, yes, but its the same underlying principle. he's a good student (despite whatever chibnall might think) - that one time lord from terror of the autons (identity forever a mystery) (its brax) even says "he did receive a higher degree of cosmic science than you." the master could play their game if he wanted to. he's remarkably comfortable with being on gallifrey/the idea of gallifrey(in eot/tlotl) than the doctor ever is. where the doctor avoids the subject of the lord presidency like the plague, the master is like "well if you kill the president you ARE the president! and then you have all of gallifrey!" and when the doctor destroys gallifrey (nominally), the master tries to rebuild it in the sound of drums/last of the time lords. tries to emulate their society. honor them in his little fucked up way. he brings them back from the time war!
and what does he get for it? how did the time lords treat him in response?
they decide to implant the sound of drums in his head, stretching back until he's a child. puts this insufferable noise, this splitting headache, in his head for his entire life. all so that they may live while he dies. because he is diseased, because of them. he has swallowed the pill, bought their propaganda, he has followed the rules, he tried to rebuild them he tried. and in response he is chewed up and spit out like trash so that rassilon's god complex can survive while the universe crumbles.
how crushing must that be to someone? to have your whole worldview - that you are better, you are chosen, you are special - come crumbling down in a few short moments? to see the revered founder-god of the civilization you have so desperately tried to revive look at you and say "you are diseased," even though he was the one to poison you in the first place?
and as his heart is torn to pieces... when rassilon says "no more," and charges his gauntlet, the master - who has spent countless lives fighting death with his bare hands - does not move.
part of me thinks he does not want to.

y'know it's such a shame we didn't get any new episodes for the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, but I guess I'm still riding on the high of Jodie Whittaker regenerating into Ncuti Gatwa, like what a moment, right? He looked so incredible in her burnt out clothes and I can't wait for his first ep where we get that classic post-regen loopiness as they try and solve an alien threat whilst staggering about in the previous regeneration's clothes - and also getting to own that moment, their first episode without being overshadowed by the person they were before? 😌 Anyway, at least on the plus side we got that ten and donna episode Wild Blue Yonder from s4 that they pulled out of the depths of the BBC archives? Like wow! What a find! Such a fascinating story, I'm gonna be thinking about it for weeks. And the way that it predicted Flux before it even happened? So so cool! But anyway mostly I'm excited to see the Fourteenth Doctor and Ruby in the Christmas Special 😊

severe hype backlash is finally doing what it always threatened to do and is souring me on Donna and Rose. And I'm mad at rtd stans for doing this to them. I like both of them a lot but damn right I resent the way rtd/tenvian fandom eclipses every other companion era in nu!who over them. There have been so many other companions since the two of them, not least of whom is FUCKING MARTHA, yet still mainstream fandom acts as though Rose and Donna are the only companions ever worth talking about.

The Giggle was like a fanfiction you read at 2am because you can’t sleep and want to read something from an obscure fandom but there are only twelve works and the highest rated one has 4 kudos and is mostly ooc dialogue
John Logie Baird was engaging and interesting and John and his friend had so much charisma and were fun to watch but sadly they were only in it for five minutes
The villain is this huge threat who can bend the rules of time and space, create endless corridors, make dolls turn to life, turn people into puppets, grow to the size of a universe, eat planets with his jaw unlatched but you beat him by....throwing a ball really hard
The toymaker loves games but is defeated by two men throwing a ball, which he said was the FIRST game and is REALLY GOOD at it, but despite having uber strength and the ability to warp reality The Doctor beats him at it because.....there are two of them ??
“social media is bad people get cancelled now and now people are fighting in the streets because everyone has to be right” but ALSO it isn’t just everyone having to be right, because a pilot not landing in an airport isn’t him refusing to be wrong it’s just him….choosing to crash a plane
Kate taking the chip off and saying horrible and offensive things isn't her "being right" it's just her being a dick and if the giggle makes everyone “always right” then surely the implication is that she thinks these horrible things already? And if she doesn’t then the giggle doesn't "make people always have to be right" but also fundamentally changes their personality which is a whole different thing and ruins the initial point about "social media is bad because no one listens" (which is a dumb point)
They did the big rant about social media and cancel culture and then just never circled back or explored it, like ??? Okay !!
I do not care about the threat this episode !!! A man won't get out the road because "he always has to be right" is dumb !!! I don't buy any of this !!! I would feel a bit bad if it was something like the Kingsman where everyone has just gone absolutely feral but that's not what the story says !!!! We also don't see this affecting ANY characters we love and care about !!!! The threat doesn't feel grounded or real and I'm not invested in them trying to fix it, I think the Toymaker is stupid and dumb, if he challenged me to a game I would just throw a ball really hard, problem solved !!!!! Let's go home for tea !!!!
The Toymaker, randomly, out of nowhere, shoots the Doctor for the lols and for the plot "I have a big gun and I'm pointing it at you for no real reason because I don't want to kill you, except maybe I do? Yeah I've changed my mind I DO want to kill you"
What's the Doctor going to do when all the Nobles die of old age? And when HE dies will he regenerate again or will he just die? And IF he regenerates again will he regenerate into ncuti?
I actually think it’s really nice that the doctor and donna get to be happy together forever and just take random trips to mars and the doctor gets his own little family !!! Lore wise it’s extremely stupid but I love that the doctor just gets to be happy !! And with Donna !! And have a family !!

hey reblog this post and tell me what your special corner of Doctor Who is. it’s always fascinating to hear the what aspects people latch onto, whether it’s an era or a character or a ship or a theme or a book range or whatever. I like how the vastness of the franchise allows people with totally different tastes to focus on entirely unrelated elements and still find joy in the show :)
