right? Watching og gen of druck was something else. I remember all of it so well. I remember Hanna's season and the awkward wait are we canceled already in like week 3 when the hiatus happened? I remember crying when they broke up and crying when Hanna and Leonie talked. I remember watching Mia's season while I was still on Erasmus. I remember how we were constantly impressed by the cinematography. I remember people gradually starting to like Alex to their own surprise since they hate Wilhelm. I remember how they changed Jonas x Hanna's story in s2 where he was the one to be messed up by the break up. I remember the first appearance of beanie boy. And I remember the week between s2 and s3 when the theories were running wild. I remember how we've all fallen into Matteo's season, for the boy squad (fucking Kathete discussion?) how we've fallen for beanie boy David. I remember the epic highs and epic lows. I remember how much we were all discussing and analysing and criticising every single clip. I remember how quickly we started calling the boy squad the one braincell squad and how we started calling ourselves clowns. I remember how much we were rooting for Jonas and Hanna to get back together goddammit. I remember how hurt we all felt when the David outing happened. But I also remember the epic high of the last episode of Matteo's season. I remember when in Ich check' Frauen nicht the one braincell squad has reached its peak stupidity. Truly the most stupid boys and yet so so so lovable. All of them. I remember how we all thought it's over but then the insta content just kept coming and coming and they kept posting days after and then we got the special and learned about the existence of Stefan and how much we instantly hated him because he's come between our Hanna and Jonas. I remember how we were all convinced that Essam was nonbinary because of his insta bio. How we were thinking everyone is queer the second they appeared. And then we got Amira's season and I remember how we've fallen for Mohammed instantly. I remember how much we were loving Amira's summer season and were gushing over her beauty, how we loved the changes they made to the storyline while also still criticizing it some things. And I remember how quickly Amira's season was over and then Druck did the worst decision ever and has the two episodes dedicated to Mia and Hanna and how angry we were and how we were boycotting Mia's episode completely (I actually still haven't seen it) and decided to have Amira's appreciation weeks instead. But by the time Hanna's episode came about we've come to somewhat accept it and thought we might at least get some Hanna x Jonas reunion out of it. How we all expected the stolen nose to make a comeback and how much we were happy when it did. I remember the last week where the speculation of what comes next were at it's wildest. I remember Lukas' instagram posts and tweets adding to the confusion. And I remember the fan event of course. Meeting our awkward druck gang. The bis bald message only adding to our confusion. Seeing the cast few meters from me. How the first question asked by the audience was immediately why the fuck would you make Amira's season shorter?  How I almost missed my bus back because I was still standing in line to meet the cast. Theo ending up in my photo with Lukas and the others lol. I remember Hussein having a One Piece tshirt and how excited I was about that. Oh the epic high of that evening even as we were all angry about Amira's season being short still.  I just I remember it all. I don't participate in fandoms often because most of the time the fandoms are not like that. Most of the time, I don't feel like I know everyone in the fandom. I don't feel like people want to have actual discussions about the topics the shows bringing up. Most fandoms I feel don't have that proper communal feeling I only got from skam's s3 and start of s4 and from druck's fandom during the og gen.

Sorry this is just a wall of text. I just have such fond memories of the time.

I don't get why people keep thinking that Mailin will come out as asexual. Even if she did, we are on episode 9, It would be a joke to make her suddenly asexual when we haven't seen her even doubting or analyzing her sexuality.

i think they base off the first few episodes when it was speculated that she was asexual, until it was denied by the druck team. now i guess they want to grab onto that tiny bit of representation and trying to make sense of the season by giving it an explanation : asexuality. because otherwise, it’s really hard to find the themes/to know what to take away from this

Hi, who do you think will be main in druck s8?

Hi anon, I'm personally leaning towards either Finn or Constantin. Mailin could have a chance but the next season is going to have a lot of Constantin regardless of who is main. It's the biggest setup we have. And since the only way to do that is a love story, I would 100% rather not see it. I don't think Yara has a shot to be main, I think that if we get Finn as main she will be the love interest. One because skam is usually only ever not sharing an Instagram profile (or in this case keeping it private) only for love interests, not future mains. Two because she is not as popular as some of the white characters. Three there was no setup, no story there was set up like it was for Finn and Contastin. Druck tends to follow a pattern, especially for the new-gen, the biggest setup of the previous season is going to be the main the following season. All the seasons worked like this so far. I don't think it should be Finn, just because the setup there will lead to another love triangle situation and I really don't want that to happen.

I think Constantin has to be a main. If I was them, I would revamp the writing team a bit, make a special to tie off some of the stuff s7 did wrong, and maybe bring back the old friends of Constantin mentioned in s6, instead of Lou (which I'm 100% sure they are getting rid off, because she was super unpopular).

I would like for Constantin to have moved in with someone, maybe with Finn (so that we can get a resolution to the Finn stuff they set up). Ideally, it would be either close to Isi's building or the same building. Because I would like for them to explore Isi's and Constantin's bond, or at least what it used to be in the past since that they didn't do that in s7. And they would have to use Isi to get Constantin help because Isi was the one that use to take care of Constantin and they used to be very close and if we are doing a Constantin season they would have to take into consideration their shatter bond and address what it used to be and how and if to fix it.

What it boils down to it for me is that there is no way that the druck team would write a character have a 3-day drinking binge and then just do nothing with that, there is just too much Constantin stuff that was set up as important shit, this show especially this new-gen can get preachy with some of the stuff they are addressing and there is no way this type of show would just ignore a teen character having an obvious alcoholism problem, the fact that his 3-day drinking and staying awake binge went on so close to the end of s7 means something. And If they have to explore it, I would rather he was main than Mailin's (or Yara) love interest.

To be very clear I don't especially want to see a Constantin season, because while I love Casper and I will enjoy the fuck out of his acting the trope of a bully having a sad life and therefore getting redeemed while doing no work for it is very overdone and I don't especially want them to do it. But, they set up a story with Constantin a story that is mainly about addiction, which is an important and heavy topic. And since they wrote it, I would rather they not ignore it, like they did with the bullying. Both stories are things you should not write unless you do it right, but I think that ignoring the obvious addiction problem Constantin has would be actually harmful, especially since he is so popular with german fans.

So far we didn't see the difference between "normal" teenager drinking and doing the occasional weed and addiction. Not in this show and not in any of the skamverse shows. And it would be nice for a skam show to actually tackle that.

Sorry for the longwinded answer anon. I know it's not what the fans on tumblr want to hear but I think it's the most likely scenario. Like I said in my previous ask, I don't think the cashqueens can carry a season alone. Especially if my personal theories on Ava disappearing act in the second half of s7 and the awkward way they handle her not being in the finale are right (the theory is that the actress wanted to leave the show, either to focus on her music or for a personal reason because it reminded me on how they handled Skam NL Sana in s1 when the actress got busy all of a sudden for personal reason, I hope I'm wrong but that's the vibe I'm getting).

I don’t even watch Riverdale but that meme immediately came to mind when people said season 8 was confirmed and that it probably was going to be Mailin. Like I was trying to think of anything that her season could be about and all I could think of was more white feminism and sports.

Literally though like the fact that we’re probably going to be stuck with these writers again is enough of a bummer, but only so many of the characters get to be mains before we lose them all like the old gen. There’s so many interesting new gen characters (a lot of whom we’ve barely gotten to know) whose seasons could truly be powerful, I just really don’t get choosing her when they all exist

i actually keep thinking about the tuesday clip in 5.09 and how it probably contains for truth than we can confirm right now like the clip  .... hear me out

on the one hand we had the obvious moment of nora telling everyone the truth about her mum being an alcoholic but nora wasn’t the only one speaking in that class

we had josh who talked about how you don’t just abandon your family just like that and how the father can’t stop loving the son and just two days later we get josh telling nora about his dad leaving him when he was young and how that affected him and everything so the way he read that text was very indicative of josh’s own struggle and experiences

now we also had ava and we saw once again that she thinks very much in black and white and just didn’t get the way the father acts and then she brought in an entirely new aspect when she started to argue with josh and brought in the siblings of the protagonist “what about the other children of the father? how would they feel in that situation where the father is just purely focussing on nick?” and that struck me a little since that didn’t really fit in there in the moment but what if that’s ava’s Involuntary piece of truth that she let out in that class??

we already know from the _huelk chats that ava has got some kind of stress/trouble at home so what if ava is in the situation of the sibling in this beautiful boy scenario? maybe she has a sibling who for whatever reason is taking a lot of her parents’ attention and therefore might make her feel neglected which would i guess could tie in with her abandonment issues (and if it’s really ava’s sister moving in with the machwitze than i guess we’ve got our big troublemaker who could be the cause of this lmao)

There are two things that i'd be absolutely shocked about Druck successfully fixing: Ava and Finn. With Ava, i think Druck went in with the best intentions. She's a great and complex character, but Druck overestimated the climate in some parts of the fandom where conscious or unconscious bias override understanding. Now with Finn - it's not amusing or mysterious to see him but not know him at all. I can not think of a single way they can justify his silence, not even if he's shy

definitely!! like i love druck n i think they did a great job w nora n the mental illness plotline so i desperately want to believe they will handle this all well but i think the high of the new gen n the successful s5 have blurred ppl's (myself included) perception of the show. like i'm super cautious of how ava n finn's characters will get treated bc no matter how good it is now it's still the same show w the s4 fiasco n the same show that got a huge amount of criticism for erasing a mental illness story line from s3 & having a whole thing abt outing trans ppl to create conflict for the cis main.

personally i am otherwise enjoying the season a lot so i don't want to ruin my experience by expecting the worst but i think it's definitely worth talking abt n it's interesting to discuss how the story will unfold for these characters!

ava has truly been treated like shit by a lot of ppl in the fandom n i believe a lot of that is just bc of the fandom itself i don't see druck pushing a narrative that makes ava a bad person or claims that her thoughts r unjustified. however i'm v interested whether or not they'll be able to turn this around bc as much as i love kietou n believe kieu my is who fatou ends up with, i'm rly conflicted abt the progress of their relationship before we get some genuine closure & validation for ava's feelings which i'm not sure how druck will pull off... hoping for the best tho since they did write all kinds of relationship dynamics rly well in season 5!🤞

as for finn i agree like that seems to be beyond salvation now :/ it's so weird how little screen time & lines he got in s5 despite the fact that he was the main character's sister's bf? it feels like we saw more of carlos who's also the main character's sister's bf but he lives in a whole another city 🥴 nora & zoe literally lived together but somehow we managed to never see or hear from finn, i don't even remember what his voice sounds like...

it’s funny that i thought i was going to stop making these dumb posts after the first episode but the thing is i just have so many thoughts about druck s5 always and like they have to go somewhere, okay??? so here is where they will go for now

random and unorganized thoughts about druck s5 ep 4 as follows:

1. i don’t know how qualified i am to talk about ~film shit~ but i will say that while i feel like druck’s cinematography has a baseline quality of pretty damn good, the cinematography choices in this episode really stuck out to me for some reason. the editing, the framing of the shots, the coloring all are AMAZING visual storytelling cues for conveying how nora feels. i like a lot of other people really felt immersed in her pov in this episode and i think the cinematography choices really helped! for example - in the clip where she’s sleeping and her mom wakes her up, the shots go from longer with fewer cuts and slower camera movements - sort of simulating how slow waking up in the morning can feel - and then become more rapidly cut with fast and sharp camera movements in a way that really highlights how nora feels waking up and slowly realizing something is wrong with the way she's waking up. as well the spinning of the camera later in that scene right before she gets burned to highlight how disorienting and frightening that scene was for nora. 

and then for me the way that last scene of the episode with josh is colored just puts this lump in my throat. under normal circumstances we should feel excited that the protagonist is going on a date with her love interest, but the cool dullness of the colors - juxtaposed with the sunlight in her room, as well as the bright colors she’s wearing right now - kind of fill me with dread, like it just doesn’t feel right, it goes against what we know we would usually be feeling about a scene like this which is jarring. a really good tone to set for the tension you feel as the scene goes on and things start to fall apart. i think so far this season has been really, really good at setting tone, like again the visual storytelling in the show so far is just. chef’s kiss. there is so much we are able to understand about nora’s headspace and the narrative without it ever having to be spelled out to us in dialogue which is always super satisfying to watch!

2. themes of going after what you want and what you feel is good for you - valuing your own well-being and agency, basically - seem pretty important this season, and it’s interesting to see the various ways they’re underscored in the writing. So for example in the first clip, Kiki asking Nora how SHE feels about moving out [since before, she was mostly focusing on what impact it would have on their mother]. or in the clip with ca$hqueens, fatou essentially has them do an exercise in trusting your gut instincts and trying to envision what you want and nora can only see white noise. and then in the end when josh asks, “may I?” and nora nods yes - he doesn’t approach her or push her to let him in until she lets him. so in this episode we can see that nora has a lot of conflict over these questions and a lot of it is clouded by her complicated relationship with her mom, and we can also see the people who are likely going to help her overcome that conflict - her family, her friends, and josh. we can see the beginnings of those threads, and potentially how they will all help her and i am really looking forward to seeing how they develop later in the story!

3. so interesting to me how readily lies come to nora even in times where she doesn’t need to lie that drastically. like she could have said she accidentally burned herself while cooking, but she said she pinched herself. or she could have said she had to pick up some things for her mom, it’s an emergency, her friends probably would have understood, but instead she made up an excuse about handymen at her apartment. and she says them so casually and easily, like if we the audience didn’t know the truth it would probably be impossible to tell something was off from her facial expressions and how she carries herself. again it reinforces the idea that this lying has become such a habit bc she’s had to do it so much, and juxtaposed with her mother’s obvious lies and zoe’s “you sound just like her” in the intervention clip... that shit hurted

4. i know nora hasn’t fully opened up to josh yet but i do think it’s interesting that she actually came close more than once in this episode. Once while texting him, of course, and also at the end when she says “my mom is...” and there’s a long pause before she says they had a fight. which kind of sticks out to me when again we see that in other times she has been very ready to cover up the truth. like i don’t think it’s a small thing that she’s visibly tried to be careful with her words around him. as he is careful with his words around her!

5. some misc things i found interesting about the ca$hqueens clip - 

a. nora’s worry that things with josh will turn out like they did with constantin, which is kind of a hint to the audience that he definitely will not be. also the girls immediately interpreting that to mean the shitty way he’s treated her which of course i think is an element of it but i’m also wondering if part of it is how she ended up having to distance herself from him [likely bc of her relationship with her mom] - like maybe on some level she thinks it would be better to avoid that risk [juxtaposed with josh hugging her at the end of the episode and physically, literally being there for her even when she still clearly has her walls up - man hold on a second JUST HOLD ON A SECOND]. 

b. when the girls asked her what happened with constantin, and she kind of deflected a little. i could be wrong but it does make me feel like we don’t know the full story there yet. not that i think she did anything to justify the atrocious way he’s behaved toward her, or that i think it’s not possible that we already basically know what we need to know [aka that she eventually had to distance herself from him because of her relationship with her mother], like there’s nothing she could have done to justify how he’s treated her [plus from how she checked up on him after the break up and actually tried to talk it out with him until he became a total ass to her to me it feels like she was probably handling it in a very mature way] and it’s very possible we already know everything there is to know! but idk. i do wonder. at the least i wonder if we’ll find out more about how they actually got together, or her relationship with the instas, like are either of those things significant to her wider arc??

c. how freely fatou feels to express her crush on kieu my! man i tell you as a queer kid who was firmly in the closet in high school it’s just... so so nice to see a lesbian express her attraction to girls to her friends. i can’t express how nice that is.

6. my last thought i have to share is the acting in this episode was fucking bomb. josh and kiki are standouts among the side characters to me, and then of course nora’s actor is CRAZY talented, like holy SHIT. i honestly have no words.
