i know i think i’m so special for like coming up with this or whatever even though someone else has probably already brought it up *anyway*

i feel like this scene where oliver is in the bathtub after uh.. you know:

so i feel like the blood on his mouth, being venetia’s, not having soaked into the clear water surrounding him very subtly and, probably unintentionally, i’m just clutching at straws for an original theory here lmao, foreshadows venetia’s eventual death

the very short scene in which we see venetia’s body after her death (i won’t put the picture because ew), she is completely submerged in her own blood, and her body and eyes are completely white/grey and all of the life is sucked out of them.

this almost seems like a reversal of the previous scene of oliver if you get what i mean

e.g. in the scene with oliver in the bathtub, her blood is concentrated on his mouth, and not seeping into the rest of the clear, untouched, unscathed water

whereas in the scene of venetia’s body, her body is compeltely drained of blood, not an ounce left in her, she is now the untouched, unscathed water and is submerged in a pool of her own blood on the outside

now a lot of stuff in this film is done intentionally and i can definitely see this as an intentional cinematographic choice

it also may mirror how venetia and oliver’s first encounter involving blood was much more intimate, trustworthy as they were only just getting to know each other, he only takes a small amount of blood from her, whereas their final encounter with the blood is much less trustworthy and it’s not a small amount of blood he drains from her, it’s finally everything.

i feel like i’m being completely idiotic here so please feed my delusions😘😘😘😘

So.. I've been meaning to write this for a while...(rumble incoming)

I really like how you always draw BLU spy/RED pyro, especially in that bathroom one, not only because the art is phenomenal and it has altered my brain chemistry, but also because blue is such a calm and sombre colour contrasting with the fiery and bold red, which reflects spy's and pyro's personalities accordingly and that bathtub painting you did a while ago, had lose my mind in the best way possible, because it reflects how that pairing mingles and interacts so so perfectly, like how spies and pyros are natural enemies in the game and if the pairing where to happen pyro would probably "drown" in spy's sombreness and sadness, nulling their glee and bold personality, which yet again is perfectly portrayed in the bathtub drawing

Anyway sorry for rumbling! In short, your art is everything to me and I can't wait to see what you post next

I like the interpretation of the drawing in various ways. The same goes for the bathtub drawing. Like, metaphor for spy and pyro's characteristic temper (e.g. Pyro's fire cannot be lit under water. Both are vulnerable sick families to water, but still, in water, it's a place where the spy's winning rate is higher. But what about pyroshark? It'll go different way.) or shown in a story telling drawing (it could be just a bath time, it could be a play with water, it could be drowned...).

Looking at your writing, I'm happy that it seems to have been expressed very successfully. and It's also interesting that you naturally thought of them as red and blue, because I didn't give them color on purpose.

Not from today, many people associate a plumber with an elderly man who repairs pipes under the sink and performs other small work related to similar matters. Well, nothing could be more wrong, because in recent years it has become a profession much more popular among young people. Characteristics of the tools of a modern plumber A few years ago, the most popular tool was the threader, thanks to which it was possible to connect subsequent elements. Today it has been replaced with special couplings and a pipe welding machine. The joints made in this case are created by delicately melting the joined layers. As long as the plumber does the job well, there is no chance of any leaks.

A specialized crimping tool is also often used for the assembly of Pex-Al-Pex systems. Here, in turn, a special fitting is used, into which the pipe is inserted and then pressed.

It is also worth mentioning the systems built of copper pipes. They are more expensive than those mentioned above, but they are perfect for central heating. In this case, connections are made by soldering and it is quite laborious.

Displacement Profiler for node.js

I get hired to do performance work on node / javascript applications and I’ve had a little trick up my sleeve for about a decade that may be of use to some of y’all. I’ll be writing about node but the concept applies to a great many things. One can even measure across languages...

I discovered this trick partially by accident when I made a node game loop and experimented with setImmediate, nextTick, and setTimeout (nextTick can freeze an application indefinitely btw). The most interesting loop is the one using setImmediate, which in my case just incremented a counter by one and queued up the loop to run itself again infinitely.  As I watched the console scroll by counting the number of ticks, I came to a simple realization: these numbers that I was seeing were what it looked like for the event loop to count as fast as it possibly could, using 100% of the CPU resources allocated to it. Looking at the CPU usage confirmed this. setImmediate however *does not lock up the event loop* all it does is schedule work for the next tick. In fact, I would argue that setImmediate and nextTick are in fact transposed and misnamed in node or v8 or wherever it is that they actually live. I don’t think this is much of an argument, I’m pretty sure this is a known mistake but hopefully I’m not misremembering. IN ANY CASE; setImmediate spins as fast as it can but doesn’t interfere with other events. So one one can make a setImmediate loop and have it counting inside of an application that is already doing its job. What you’ll find is that the speed at which the setImmediate loop runs depends on how much other work is being done in that thread. And there we have it: a displacement profiler. You can change a piece of the application and run this profiler before and after and end up with a “volume” change in the CPU usage -- thus measuring something that was perhaps very elusive before.

I call the profiler by this name per the famous story about Archimedes. He was given a task about figuring out if a crown was made of solid gold and he wasn’t sure how he was gonna figure it out. At some point he was getting into a bathtub that was full to the brim and when he got in water spilled out everywhere... he realized that the amount of water that spilled out of the tub was equal to the volume of the part of his body that had entered the tub, exclaimed, “Eureka!” and ran through the street naked to tell everyone what he had figured out. He had realized that he could measure the volume of the crown, weigh it, and figure out what material it was made out of -- or at least compare it to solid gold which would be enough to answer the initial question. This same notion of volume or displacement applies to CPU usage and thus provides an alternative method of measuring performance (an alternative to a traditional profiler that measures the timings of functions).

Let me say that the CONCEPT is more interesting than the specifies. The idea of measuring the “space” available on the cpu outside an application’s workload instead of measuring the application workload itself is a potentially very different way of seeing things. I don’t recommend starting with it, do the obvious stuff first. But when things remain obscure after looking at the obvious stuff, consider this approach. A lot of applications these days are asynchronous monstrosities without a clear pipeline of work being done... instead it’s all evented i/o! Using a displacement profiler combined with a stress test one can really get a feel for the capacity of an application. One is not going to get the same answers by counting the milliseconds spent in the hot path functions and multiplying by that by the hypothetical number of users at launch time. ALSO if one expands the displacement to multiple threads (saturate them, ideally !) one can even measure the hidden load of the application -- e.g. what is happening out of the application’s main thread but still nevertheless consumes cpu on the machine, such as filesystem i/o or the cpu component of network i/o. We might not think of node or javascript as traditionally multithreaded, and it isn’t, but there are c++ threads or whatever doing stuff during a lot of the i/o and not measuring that (and only measuring the javascript) is going to cause problems when trying to figure out how much load a heavy i/o program can take.

Another thing to note about this technique is that data collected one day should not be compared to data collected another day or even much later in the same day. We may be measuring the displacement of an application, but we’re also measuring the displacement of  *everything* that uses CPU. And this is something that is pretty much constantly changing on most machines.

I hereby write this thing here and release it to the world so that no fool may attempt to patent it. The existence of this concept is ancient I would hope no one would attempt to own it. And I’m not just talking about Archimedes. Anyone who opened up 10 copies of a video game because they wanted to see how some other program they made behaved in lag was essentially onto the same idea. GOODLUCK. HAVE FUN

Look, Fei is a pretty simple guy. He's not really one for frills or all the bells and whistles: he doesn't want a huge house, he thinks he'd just get nice clothes dirty (he is very correct), he feels very out of place when waited on by butlers or maids and likes to take care of himself. He's just not the type for extravagance, and often outright rejects it, maybe with a little attitude because of how uncomfortable he is with it. Even being overly praised kind of puts him in an uneasy spot. For three years he was raised in a simple close-knit village doing hard work, and that’s honestly how he prefers to live. No, simply having stability and calm is plenty for him (though he may make an exception for really good 'decadent' food). Even more so, he was tossed violently into a life of adventure and world-saving, without much choice, and constantly learning that people he’d never even heard of wanted something of him, and would do whatever it took and whatever it cost to make him do it. So, really, his biggest luxury now is just being. Not being anyone’s puppet, having the freedom to choose what and who he is, not being trapped by a vicious cycle, just being able to exist as a human being with his loved ones close-by in content normalcy is the biggest luxury he can think of right now. But, there is one stereotypically (kind of?) luxurious thing he still thinks about. He really really liked having a nice shower. Water that's just warm right away on command? A shower that isn't a rusty old bathtub? No ominous clunking from who knows which on-the-verge-of-exploding pipe in the wall? Now that's a luxury he can be comfy with. And it actually really helps with chronic pain, which is a massive relief to him.

Id, in a similar but harsher breath, just doesn't really think of material luxury at all. He was always provided with exactly what he 'needed' to grow and develop, and not much more. It didn’t really help to begin with that he was having to live mostly on the run for most of his life, so traveling light became sort of unquestioned. Though, that didn’t stop him from noticing his deprivation eventually when he started seeing other children from afar, and growing frustrated and jealous over his apparent lack of worthiness. There were a few ‘objects’ of luxury: Grahf giving him new paints or brushes when they could be found, or taking him to dinner in an actual restaurant, or even the occasional but very monitored walk around a festival if they happened to coincidentally travel through one. But, whether he likes to admit it or not, much like Fei, it's not the 'things' themselves that are the luxury. It’s the stability that they signify. The first thing that changed, and yet really didn't is my uni. I've decided to take a gap year to finally write my thesis and end my Bachelors degree in Spanish. So I gave up on double majoring for now and just try writing my thesis one frase at a time. I changed the topic of my work and I hope this time I'll get it right.

The second thing that changed or better said is changing, is my lving situation. After a huge fall out with my then best friend slash flatmate, I get a new flatmate. I mean, the fallout was caused by said best friend moving out, but it's a story I don't want to relive and let's just say getting some dick (not a boyfriend, a ton of random men) was more important for my so called friend than me, so there's that.

The third thing is the most amazing thing that happened to me this year and it makes me even a bit happy that I'm taking a gap year. So, the thing is that I'm working at an amazing kindergarden. M'not really sure how that happened, but it's true. It's an alternative kindergarden, which means it doesn't really fall under the system and it's the most amazing and wonderfull thing. The kids are so lovely that going to work every day doesn't feel like a chore, but a thing I can and want to do. Sure, there are days when I'm tired or something happens that drains me. And obviously there are things that happen that I can't even categorise, e.g. a few days ago one of the kids (let's call him Stanley) decided that it would be a great idea to play in the mud, which isn't something terrible or weird, but he thought it would be the greatest fucking thing to almost swim in said mud. The fact that it was raining and the tons of snow that we had a few days prior were melting didn't help at all. In fact, it made the mud almost water like so when we came back I had to put him in the bathtub, because Stanley was drenched in mud. When I helped him undress his legs were black from all the mud and he was wearing two pairs of pants, one of them being waterproof. So yeah, things are always interesting.
