One of my favorite things about how Anne Rice writes historical fiction: she doesn't sugar-coat her characters.

As in, there was never going to be any way all these vampires going back 6000 years were going to align with modern sensibilities. They're not savory. They suck.

First off, any male of status from before the Great Depression probably did, in fact, look at an underage girl and think, "she LOOKS like she could grow up cute and interesting, but do I want to wait to ask her dad and risk someone else calling dibs in the meantime?"

Lestat: Killed majestic, beautiful animals that were only trying to feed themselves. To save the lives of people who were counting on him, yeah, but still.

Marius: Literally from ancient Rome, lots of ideals from that time, pederastic relationship with Armand, see above disclaimer about males from prior to the Great Depression.

Armand, Santino, most of the de Landens: I do feel like the Children of Darkness/Satan wouldn't have been founded in our time, as evidenced by Lestat so easily disbanding them with basic Enlightenment talking points, so I think it counts.

Louis: LITERALLY OWNED SLAVES. And not in a bullshit "but I treat them so nice and they'd just be owned by someone mean if not for me!" way, he legit believed this was what black people were for. Until he became a vampire and all humans looked equal(ly foodlike) to him.

Gabrielle: Let other people raise her kids while she became a library hermit.

Maharet and Mekare: Cannibals. Oh, sorry. Respectful cannibals.

Khayman: Nnnot even gonna be sarcastic about this one. He was as much a victim of it as Maharet and Mekare, hence them not blaming him in the slightest. But people today would be put on trial for following an order like that one, so I figure it belongs here.

Daniel: idk probably unprotected gay sex. It was the 70's.

Claudia: Gets a pass. She was five. All the bad shit she does is unrelated to her time.

Mael: Helped keep a vampire captive for years, then proceeded to kidnap someone and force them to become a vampire, all because "idk we're kooky druids and it's our religion."

Everard: Laughs at Benedict for being kidnapped and having his blood stolen. Victim-blaming at its finest.

Akasha and Enkil: I mean, we know what they did, but everyone hated them in their own time, too, so.

Eudoxia: Jesus Christ.

Davis: HAS NEVER DONE ANYTHING WRONG EVER IN HIS LIFE. /protects him forever #theonlyinnocentvampireprobably

And you know what? I'd take the worst of these over Bill Compton, Damon Salvatore, or Whassisface Cullen fighting for the Confederacy because "the greater good." Like bro. At least the dickheads above are being honest about it and we can judge those parts of them appropriately. You're trying to make us think you were doing something honorable by being vague. We know what you were really fighting for, and so do you.

Moral of the story: If you're gonna be evil, trying to be sneaky about it only makes it worse.

It's necessary, of course, and an honor to serve one's parents. It can't possibly be for nothing. You wouldn't have given up your life for nothing. No—this is your purpose, and when they now-and-then keep you alive, it's gratitude for all of your diligence and sacrifice. You spend so much time thinking of things they might enjoy, I bet they appreciate it. You know, other children have tried to take this role from you, so it must, it must be precious. Oh, sure, you thought, briefly, throwing them off the boat, to the bottom of the sea on your way to Constantinople, but you promise, you promise, it was a fleeting thought—you swear you didn't mean it. (All that to say, nice oldest-daughter complex you got there, Marius!)

anyway as an aside, imho he'd be my top character to gender-swap in adaptation to balance out the gender ratio a little bit and I think it works with the themes of a reclusive, bookish individual making many well-intentioned but poor choices who then has to spend like. a lot of time trying to figure out what the Fuck to do next after all that falls apart. but anyway for the time being i'm just going to keep drawing all the book characters however i want

I love how Enkil is literally just some guy. Like Marius and Lestat and all the other vampires are misogynists so they think that he's the first vampire and he's the one who started everything bc it couldn't possibly be a woman (despite Marius and that other guy going on and on and on about The Mother in mythology) but nope. It's all Akasha and she just tolerates him and then kills him when he isn't useful anymore. She is the first girlboss, girlboss of the damned if you will.

Some notes on her early ideas for Seth, Fareed, and Maharet. It's fun that she created Seth but then decided she liked him too much to have him do the thing she created him for, and I like it better with Rhoshamandes doing it instead.

Very disappointed she ended up using Bianca much less than she originally wanted to though; Bianca comes up again and again as someone who could have been part of things.

Also, Maharet seems to be doing even less okay in this version 😬

I'm surprised with all the Rashid theories out there that I haven't seen anyone talking about the possibility of Rashid being Marius.

There's Rashid's comment about Dubai being young.

There's the fact that Rashid is the one who tells Daniel about Marius' painting.

There's Rashid speaking Latin near the end of episode 6.

Rashid says he serves 'a god' which could very definitely be 'Those Who Must Be Kept.'

It'd be a change from the books to have Marius with Louis, but this show's already changed a whole lot from the books, so why not. Plus, it'd give the show an excuse to have Louis stick around and be more part of the Queen of the Damned story.

I'm still holding out hope that Rashid is just an original character and Louis' human companion. But I would be pretty amused if he's Marius and all the hints to book readers that he was Armand were red herrings.

Random characters I'd cast in the Interview with the Vampire TV show 😂

Just to explain this post a bit better...Last year, the IWTV fans asked Jacob and Sam who they think should play Gabrielle and both said Monica Bellucci, a legendary Italian actress. I agree with them that Monica has the beauty and talent to play Gabrielle. I would have cast her if a beautiful European guy was playing Lestat because in the books, Lestat is supposed to look EXACTLY like his mother - and Lestat is currently being played by a handsome, talented Australian actor. But Sam still has to know himself that he literally looks NOTHING like Monica Bellucci so if she plays Lestat's mother, then Monica and Sam will not even look related. 😂

𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗞𝗶𝗱𝗺𝗮𝗻 actually looks like she could be related to Sam - she's tall, has blue eyes, a jaw line, Australian, also naturally a ginger, she dyes her hair blond too. She said during Covid she's learning Italian which means she can learn her lines in Italian also, Sam has worked with her before in 2012 for a movie called The Railway Man and Sam admires her as a legendary Australian actress so I'm sure Sam would love for Nicole Kidman to play his vampire mother. 🤭❤️

𝗝𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝘀𝗮𝗮𝗰𝘀 played Lucius Malfoy so I know he can play the aristocrat abusive father of Lestat just imagine him in a long blond wig, a French accent, and he's perfect. 😖

𝗥𝗶𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮 could play Akasha in honor of Aaliyah. 💕

𝗗𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗻 as Enkil because look at him! 😍

𝗝𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗺𝘆 𝗜𝗿𝗼𝗻𝘀 is who Anne Rice wanted as Lestat so it would be a lovely tribute to her if he was cast to play Magnus - who made Lestat a vampire.

𝗔𝗻𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 would be a great Pandora.

𝗟𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 I saw her play Cinderella she has a fairy tale beauty perfect for Bianca.

𝗠𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝘁𝘀𝗰𝗵 would fit as a female in a vampire show.

𝗔𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗛𝗼𝗽𝗸𝗶𝗻𝘀 because I imagine Lestat wanting to be vampire buddies with Hannibal Lecter. 😂

𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗻 𝗝𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗮 is a handsome Indian actor, he can play David.

𝗝𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗺𝗼𝗮 fits the intimidating vibe.

𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶�� 𝗛𝗲𝗺𝘀𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 - IWTV fans wanted him as Lestat but I cast him as Mael. 😝

𝗗𝗮𝗸𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 and 𝗘𝗹𝗹𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 ain't twins but are sisters and great actresses so they can play witches.

I know AMC can not afford even half of this cast but LET ME DREAM! 😆

IWTV Ramble/Theory

(Spoilers for The Vampire Lestat and Queen of the Damned books)

So eventually, if the show does get to Queen of the Damned (which I really hope they do) I kind of hope they include Enkil more.

Obviously, we know Akasha falls for Lestat and all the shit she does because of that. BUT what if the show changes it a bit so that Enkil has a similar experience with Louis?

Maybe they add in a scene at some point where Louis meets Marius - maybe Armand sends him to Marius after he realizes Louis is broken from the death of Claudia (yeah. she still dies sorry ) Marius introduces Louis to those who must be kept and like Lestat and Akasha earlier, Louis has some kind of experience with Enkil.

Flash forward however many years to Lestat re-emerging from his coffin in New Orleans (like we saw at the end of season 1). He does the whole music thing and it wakes Akasha and Enkil. Except this time, Akasha doesn't drain Enkil and the two decide to work together to get their respective prizes.

(Maybe Enkil isn't a misogynist or whatever and he and Akasha were actually in love/friends).

Things proceed like they do in the book, Louis and Lestat reunite with Armand not far behind (No I don't know how Daniel factors in) but instead of waiting- Enkil takes Louis immediately after the concert which sends Lestat on a rampage. Eventually Gabrielle is able to calm him down enough to sleep because dawn is coming and "You won't be able to help Louis if the sun burns you to ash."

Lestat gets kidnapped by Akasha and is, of course, immensely worried about Louis.

Akasha and Enkil have taken both of them to somewhere mediterranean with a huge beautiful castle filled with delusion human servants.

Akasha and Lestat interact like they do in queen of the damned more or less but on the otherside of the castle Louis and Enkil are literally just staring at each other.

Enkil is fascinated by Louis because of how his love and hate are so similar and how he uses fire- the only thing that can destroy them- so well. He's patronizing and possessive so Louis isn't very impressed because this just seems like a worse version of Lestat.

But the big thing would be Louis and Lestat constantly trying to elude their captors to find their way back to one another. Even if its just to steal a glimpse of the other's face. They don't trust that Akasha and Enkil are telling the truth and even if Louis tried to kill Lestat and Lestat is literally the worst they aren't going to let anyone come between them...at least not again.
