Kevin Smith (and other Clerk goodness) at Fan Expo St. Louis 2022
You may have recently read my post on Fan Expo St. Louis, or even watched my video on my channel, and fully be aware of how exciting it was for me to finally reunite with Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes for the first time since I almost died in 2015. 2015 But I figured it’d be nice to give the most special part of my weekend it’s own post, considering everything Kevin means to me. At Smallville Nights Tom and Michael read through the whole "We have a future Clark and I don't want anything to get in the way of our friendship" scene and made fun of Lex for being weird. They did the scene a few times and for the last one Tom said the line seductively and got really close to Michael and leaned as if to kiss him ffjsndn

The animated pilot for Lackadaisy made me fall in love with webcomics again
On March 29th, 2023, a pilot for an animated adaptation of the webcomic “Lackadaisy” was released on YouTube, a few hours after it premiered it pops up in my feed, I click on it, not even knowing what it is and just thinking it looks cool, it becomes one of my favorite pieces of indie animation I have seen, then I find out that it is based on a webcomic.
I am a big fan of webcomics, I like how with the boost of the internet people were able to get very famous for work that was self-produced and self-published. Now, people that got their start with webcomics have now gone on to be bigger parts of the industry. One Punch Man started as a webcomic that then got a manga adaptation and finally an anime, with the author behind it going on to make Mob Psycho 100, which also started as a webcomic that then got adapted. The guys behind Penny Arcade made a tie-in comic for Fallout 3 and have gone on to create the charity Child’s Play and the convention PAX (Penny Arcade Expo) which is a convention all about video games. One of the biggest anime from last year, Spy x Family got its start as a webcomic as well.
Lackadaisy started in July 2006 and is still going on, set in St. Louis, Louisiana during the era of Prohibition. All the characters in the series are anthropomorphic cats, the series follows Rocky, a bootlegger, Calvin, Rocky’s cousin, Ivy, who works at the Little Daisy Café, the front for the speakeasy, and their boss Mitzi, the widow of the Lackadaisy speakeasy’s founder. The antagonists are Mordecai, a triggerman for Lackadaisy’s rival, Marigold, and siblings Serafine and Nicodeme, who work alongside Mordecai. Lackadaisy’s author, Tracy Butler, has both a merch store and a Patreon, which help fund the comic. Meanwhile the animated pilot was funded through Kickstarter, raising roughly $330k.
The Lackadaisy pilot is great, if you haven’t seen it, I recommend it. The voice cast did great, the standout for me being the voice of Mordecai, SungWon Cho, better known as ProZD. I’m a huge fan of ProZD, I remember him from the Vine days, and have been super happy to see him get some very big roles, my jaw fell to the floor when I realized he voiced Ratatoskr in God of War: Ragnarok. The animation is so good, there are also moments where you can see the sketch lines on the characters faces, likely due to the AI “art” stuff that’s been going on for the past while. Anyway, it’s a great watch, it’s about half an hour long and free on YouTube. And since watching it, I went back and began reading the webcomic, and it’s good too, it’s worth checking out.

So it finally happened. Something I thought was impossible, actually became possible. I went to the St. Louis fan expo met my favorite actor in the world, and one of the most handsome men I’ve ever seen in my life….Michael Rooker. I met a lot of really cool people and saw a lot of really great cosplaying and merchandise. This is the Yondu funko pop I got at the fan expo… they were disappearing quickly so I’m glad I got my hands on one - a REAL one.
Michael was everything anyone has ever told me about him, and everything I’ve ever read about him. He was very talkative and kind and considerate and patient and funny. I was too shy to ask for a selfie but the experience in and of itself was everything I’d ever hoped for. The fact that he makes time for his fans and he attends events like this speaks volumes about who he is as a person. We had a very pleasant interaction and I can’t be more grateful to have had this experience. Many of you may know that St. Louis isn’t exactly considered a huge city and it doesn’t really crack the top 10 for important places…. So the fact that he came back means a lot. If you are a fan of Michael Rooker and he ever comes to your hometown or city, TAKE THE OPPORTUNITY!!!!

Fan Expo St. Louis – 2022
If you’ve been around for a while, you may remember when I went to Wizard World St. Louis every single year. It was my biggest local con. You may also remember, if you’ve been around a while, that in 2017 I made a solo trip to Fan Expo Canada and absolutely loved that con. So imagine my joy when Wizard World was taken over…. by Fan Expo. My mind was blown. (more…)

9.4.2020 - 9.8.2020
At age 5, sometime in the summer of 1983, I went to my first Mets game. I know they played the Montreal Expos. I’m pretty sure George Bamburger was still the manager. Tom Seaver was on the team. I do not know if he pitched that game. But I know I saw him pitch on tv as a Met that year.
My early childhood from that point forward was consumed with baseball (and cartoons) until about 1989 when the Mets were bad again. They just got worse until I went to college, but I still watched. I couldn’t watch Mets games in college, so I mostly forgot about baseball. I graduated in 2000 and came home to the Mets and Yankees in the Subway Series. And I was back in it.
The Mets predictably lost, and it was the worst because the Yankees were dynastic, but something else happened. After raising me as a Mets fan, my father outed himself as a Yankee fan.
My dad was born in Brooklyn in 1950 and raised in Sheepshead Bay, which is close to Coney Island. Story goes he asked my grandfather to go see the Dodgers and was told “next year”. That was 1957. He never got to see the Dodgers in Brooklyn. They, and the New York Giants, moved to California before the 1958 season. This is pretty fucked up. And though I never asked him while he was alive, it would make no sense for my grandfather to have claimed he didn’t know the Dodgers were leaving. It was the biggest news in Brooklyn.
For 4 years, there was only one New York team. The Yankees. They won the World Series in 1958 and 1961. They lost the World Series in 1960. The Mets first season was 1962 and promptly set the record for most games lost in a season, in the modern era. The Yankees beat the San Francisco Giants in the World Series that year. In 1963 the Yankees lost to the Los Angeles Dodgers, but who could root for the Dodgers after they left Brooklyn? That was traitorous. In ‘64 the Yankees lost the World Series to the St. Louis Cardinals. They were terrible after that.
In 1967, Tom Seaver debuted for the New York Mets. They were still the worst team in baseball. In 1969, led by Seaver, the Mets were champions. My dad, by this time in college, became a fan.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in tracing his sports allegiances, it’s that he’s a bandwagoner. We never watched hockey, but for some reason had 4 copies of an Islanders record from the early 80s. We never really watched football, but he did like to watch the Cowboys. Why wasn’t he a Giants fan? Or a Jets fan? It never really made sense.
The entire reason we went to that game in 1983 was my dad got tickets from work. The owner of the company he worked for had box seats about 10 rows behind the third base dugout. We would go once or twice a year and my dad would complain about traffic. We went to Game 1 of the 1986 World Series. I still have my ticket. It was a big moment for me, having just turned all of 9 years old. It’s still a big moment for me. We sat 6 rows from the back of the stadium and couldn’t see anything. But we were there.
I never had reason to believe my dad was anything other than a Mets fan. And then, there I am, freaking out in 2000 as Benny Agbayani hands the ball to a fan in the stands because he thought there were three outs, and my dad is outing himself further as a Yankee fan with every moment.
I don’t remember when this took place, but I know it happened. I was so angry I was raised a Mets fan. But it went something like this:
Why would you do this to your child? You know how bad they are. You read the paper. You never bothered to tell me the Yankees won the World Series in 1978. I could have gone through life as a carefree Yankee fan, not ever having to know the intricacies of the game, and never beating myself up in the years they weren’t competitive because they’re the fucking Yankees! They always come back.
At that point, I couldn’t give up the Mets. For the damage being invested in their losing had done to me, and for what it would continue to do to me. For 20 years until I left New York, I probably watched 150 games a year, whether on tv or at Shea. I didn’t just double down. It became all consuming. And gut wrenching. Hey! You had a shit day at work! Let’s agonize over this garbage team and argue with the tv announcers every day. As I bounced from apartment to apartment, job to job, there would always be the constant, soothing misery of the Mets.
The 2000 baseball season had been my introduction to Tom Seaver the announcer. Keith Hernandez too. I actually got to see him play. He was the quintessential first baseman. Now I got to listen to them regularly. Along with Ralph Kiner, Gary Thorne, and Howie Rose, they were fantastic. They talked about the game like a coach should talk about the game. Every game, regardless of how bad the team was, became a clinic in “How to Baseball”. I loved it.
In 2006, the Mets got their own broadcasting network and consolidated the announcing team. Ralph Kiner’s health had declined over the years and he would only return on home Sunday games. Fran Healy and Tim McCarver were finally, mercifully gone. Seaver left too. He had gone into winemaking in ‘05 and wanted to pursue it full time. Taking over play-by-play was radio announcer Gary Cohen. He had been Bob Murphy’s understudy and was a familiar pick. Keith Hernandez stayed and fellow 80s Met Ron Darling was added as well. They’re still in the booth today, and they’re fantastic.
Seaver would show up from time to time. There was never a down, dull moment with him. You’d get an adrenaline rush just listening to him.
I’m going to say something controversial. I hated Shea Stadium. It was a nasty, ugly place. But there’s one thing about it that CitiField just can’t replace. The entire stadium was built from concrete blocks and it was very closed in. Each entrance to the seating area from the concourse was like its own little tunnel into another world. You come out of the darkness and into the light of the greenest field you’ve ever seen. I got goosebumps and would nearly be on the verge of tears, every time I walked through, from that first game in 1983, until they tore the place down at the end of the 2008 season.
I did make sure to be there at the last game. It was terrible. The Mets needed to beat the Marlins to get into the Wild Card and it didn’t happen. Then we waited seemingly forever for the post-game ceremony to begin, absolutely fuming that we had been duped by this shit team again. Finally, things got started. Mets greats were announced. And Tom Seaver and Mike Piazza closed the centerfield gate together, formally closing the book on Shea. It was a good moment even though the season ended terribly.
We moved to California two years ago. This was my opportunity to finally get rid of the Mets. I was determined to do it. I started watching A’s and Giants games. I even started watching Dodger games. At the start of the season, I was set to ride the A’s and Dodgers all the way to a California World Series. Then COVID hit. The season was cancelled. I lost my job. School was cancelled. Bad news increased exponentially. And when the baseball season finally started in July, my wife said she wanted to watch the Mets. She wasn’t going to give me a choice either.
We met in 2006. She had moved to NYC the previous year and kinda bandwagoned her way into Yankee fandom. Because why not. She was really a football fan anyway. One of her previous boyfriends was apparently a huge Cubs fan. She says every time they lost he’d be upset for days. Which, historically, is a tough place to be as a Cubs fan. As we dated and got closer she saw just how many games I would watch on a yearly basis. It’s a lot.
She got used to me pacing around, guitar in hand, yelling at the TV. She studied for the bar exam through this. One time, I forget what was going on, she’s reading flashcards and I had taken issue with something Gary Cohen said. And I hear quietly, “don’t argue with Gary!” I can still hear the inflection in her voice in my head. I turned around and started telling her why I disagreed with him and her only response was “did I say that out loud?” Gary, Keith, and Ron were hugely important to not only her tolerance of my baseball tv domination, but also her appreciation of the game. She only knew Ralph Kiner as this cute old man. And every so often, Seaver would come back and she’d see me well up with visceral feelings.
I cried when Ralph Kiner died. Around 2014/2015 I wrote a blog titled “The Common Sense Mets Fan”. At the time, I was convinced the Sandy Alderson administration would right the team and keep the Wilpons at bay. I was wrong. Anyway, here’s what I wrote:
On the last day of the season, as usual, Gary Cohen said goodbye to Ralph Kiner. But there was something different about it this time. There was fear in Gary’s face, as though he knew this was his last opportunity to sign off with Ralph. I had seen hints of it in years past, but never like this. Sadly, Ralph passed today, I hope peacefully.
As a Mets fan, this is like losing a grandfather or great uncle. Ralph had always been there. From his stories about Elizabeth Taylor to his willingness to argue advanced metrics and hitting style with Keith Hernandez, he was ever present in the Mets broadcast booth. I’ll never be able to hear the game again the same way. Thank you, Ralph.
At the time, I said to my wife, “the next time I cry about the Mets, it’ll be when Tom Seaver dies.” This was before their 2015 run. Before the Wilmer Flores incident. Before I was sitting on my couch with a 1 year old, watching them in a World Series, as I did my best impression of Randy Quaid from Major League. I refused to allow myself to enjoy the success of the team because I knew they would lose. It was just a matter of when. And of course, they did lose to the Kansas City Royals. But they got a lot further than I thought they would.
When MLB decided to move forward with a truncated 2020 season, I was reluctant to watch. It’s not safe for anyone involved and seems to be all about corporate greed. But of course, like moths to a flame, we watched. And as I mentioned, my wife said, “we’re watching the Mets.” I didn’t want to. But she was right. In a year like we’ve never seen before, Gary Cohen, Ron Darling, and Keith Hernandez did something, and are doing something, nobody else is. They gave us levity and calm. Led by Gary, they are unafraid to address the news of the day while knowing the escape they provide. The BLM t-shirt moment was unparalleled. And unfortunately, they’d have another day to provide calm the next week.
As you well know by now, George Thomas Seaver died last week. He had contracted lyme disease years ago, while working in the vineyards. For some people, lyme goes undiagnosed for years while doctors treat the symptoms without putting it all together. This seems to have been what happened to Tom. It progressed with complications and he developed Lewy Body dementia. His family announced his retirement from public life and the Mets announced they would erect a statue to him outside of CitiField. They changed the address of the stadium to 41 Seaver Way. But in true Wilpon Mets fashion, still no statue.
Finally, last week, Tom died due to complications from COVID. I was sitting on the couch, watching some random baseball game and reading Twitter. I saw the Baseball Hall of Fame announcement on Twitter, exclaimed “oh no!”, and went upstairs to be alone for a minute. My wife was on the phone. She ran upstairs to see me sitting with my head in my hands and asked what happened. I told her and then told her how stupid I felt for letting this get to me. And she said, “yeah, but you said after Ralph died this would happen”.
Our son came upstairs to see what he was missing. I told him. He said “who’s that?” And we had a long talk I think bored him. And it’s then it hit me what had happened. As I’ve detailed in the past 4 pages of text, Tom Seaver meant a lot to me, even though in my experience as a Mets fan, he was really just a peripheral character. I saw him on the field a couple of times. He was talked about. He was an announcer for a few years, and he’s mostly been out of the spotlight for the past 15 years. Here I was, having a visceral, uncontrollable reaction to a childhood figure I never met. How the fuck were people who actually knew him going to keep it together?
They couldn’t do it. Gary and Ron did their best. Apparently, Keith’s mom also had dementia, and he lost it. There was a lot of silence during the game. A lot of big sighs from Keith. A lot of on air hurting. It was gut wrenching. I saw an Ed Kranepool quote that said, “this was a terrible ending to a horseshit year.” And it’s only September!
At this point, nearly a week later, it’s difficult to remember where I saw it. But here it is. The reason I’ve spent all this time spilling my guts about a guy I never met. Tom Seaver was a beacon. He wasn’t just someone who had a talent and pursued it. He was constantly trying to reinvent himself and pursue that passion, whether he was good at it or not. But even moreso, he was a positive influence on everyone around him. I’ve never heard a story about Seaver fighting with anyone. He wanted to be Rembrandt with a baseball. And he wanted to lift people up around him.
I feel isolated and alone. There’s not much I feel like I can control. I can get out my thoughts, I can be a good husband and a good father. I can explore my music. And I can use the latter to pull myself out of the former. That’s what Tom would tell me to do.

Earp-A-Palooza 2019
Okay, so by request, a few of you asked if I could share my experiences again. Below the cut, I’ll go through my weekend at Earp-A-Palooza, but right now I just want to start by saying this was one of the most special experiences of my entire life. I am so unbelievably glad I was able to go and that it worked out. Honestly, it was a true blessing. Also, I don’t get to mention this in here, but the whole weekend, Dom and Kat were calling me by name and I was almost never wearing the badge that actually said my name on it, so they clearly just remembered that I’m Steph. Considering I know I haven’t told Kat my name since at least Expo in June, if even then, that was pretty rad. I think I reminded Dom at EH Con, but she remembered it now, so I’m definitely not complaining! That was a really neat feeling, just to know that I’m known by them. Is that totally dorky? Maybe. But how many people can say that about their faves? And how many faves even bother to remember people’s names the way this cast does with us Earpers? I’m about to say it a dozen times at least, but these people are really special.
My Friday started off in a rush, leaving my apartment at only 5 AM to drop off my apartment keys for my best friend before catching my flight to St. Louis. Customs took a long time to get through, and I felt anxious to get moving. I was tired as hell, only having slept for 45 minutes, but so ready for the con adrenaline to kick in. I had this really strange feeling in my gut. I kept looking around, and it felt like I was crazy. But something was just nagging at me and it was really weird. Except then, at about 7 AM, I turned around in my seat by the gate, and Kat Barrell was walking in.
So there’s that!
Someone tagged her in a reply to a tweet I made and I swear I saw her look around really quickly out of the corner of her eye. I was kind of blocked from her view by a few people, and also it was, again, 7 AM. She also doesn’t know my username since I don’t interact with her online much even though we’ve met in person several times, so she didn’t really know who she was looking for if she did, in fact, see it.
I figured I’d go say hello, but then leave her alone. I also didn’t want to bother her, so I waited until they made the first boarding call. She wasn’t in zone 1, but she put her phone down and wasn’t too busy, so I casually walked over and said, “I don’t want to interrupt, but I just thought I’d come say ‘hi.’” She looked up and recognition clicked and she grinned and greeted me. I kind of hung back in case she wasn’t up to talk but she initiated a conversation and I wasn’t about to turn her down. She asked if I was going to St. Louis for Palooza. I said, “Yeah, it would be kind of weird if I was just here and not going.” She laughed and said, “Maybe you’re going to Indianapolis” (these were the only two gates in our area for a very long stretch). I conceded and said I was going to the con and she asked if a lot of my friends were going. I told her just about all my friends were going and that made her pretty happy to hear. We chatted awhile, not really about anything serious but it was still a good conversation. This was the one time I didn’t mind that boarding was taking ages (seriously, like fifteen minutes). Our plane was also a walk out on the tarmac and so we boarded together in the same zone and before she took her seat, she smiled and said, “See you there!”
I never sleep on planes, but literally everyone on the flight (all twelve of them – we were on the tiniest plane) had crashed. I was way too excited about the weekend, so I mostly just listened to music and played games on my phone.
When we landed, Kat was further up so she was off the plane before me, but she had to stay to get her skycheck luggage. I wasn’t going to be a creep and linger since the bag I had to pick up was over on the baggage carousel across the airport. She waved as I walked by and I said “see you later!” I went to get my things and meet my friend.
I hung out with a few people for awhile before the con and made some really fun new friends who were rooming with a couple of people I knew. I had so many laughs just on the way over to the con hotel that it was really a magical start to the morning. I had been sick earlier in the week and concerned that I would have to sleep a lot in my down time but I felt really great, and I was happy to check in and go right to registration and start meeting up with everyone.
I had told myself to be calm about photos and autos this con and had so many plans to only do 4 photos the whole weekend that literally dissipated as soon as I got there. I bought a Dom and a Kat solo for the very first day and you’ll soon see that over the course of 3 days, 4 photos easily transformed into 11 plus selfies. Oops? Sorry not sorry.
My first photo was with Dom. As I hadn’t planned anything for these extra photos, I basically just winged it with whatever I thought would be cute. She was so energetic when I walked in. She grinned so brightly when she saw me and said it was nice to see me again and complimented my hair. I have always curled my hair for them, but I was lazy getting up at 3:20 AM so I had just straightened it but she really liked it, so maybe I don’t hate my hair straight anymore. I asked if we could sit and lay our heads on each other’s shoulders. Which, of course, meant softly headbutting each other because I didn’t specify and she checked with me what I wanted. I said, “Okay, just put your head on my shoulder?” and we got a super adorable photo. As I was getting up to leave, she started asking how I was and making small conversation and I was so sure I was going to be kicked out, so I made it really quick, but it was a really great interaction.
Tumblr media
Kat’s solo photo came next. As I walked in, she was like, “Hey! You made it!” It kind of made me laugh because yeah, I flew in with you boo. But she followed it up with, “I was looking for you! I was going to offer you a ride, but I didn’t find you.” Wow. Okay. So that happened. I’m still kind of bummed I didn’t see her to get that ride – because how cool would that be!? – but also I would’ve had to linger like a weirdo and it would’ve been very awkward for me to wait for her to get her bags and not just look creepy, so it’s not surprising we had lost each other. I thanked her for the thought though, and I’m still really stoked that she was going to do that at all. Really, this cast is the absolute sweetest and so thoughtful. I know a lot of actors and few of them would want to share a ride with a fan, let alone be the ones to offer. I get it, but there’s something very special about Kat and the rest of the Earp cast, you know?
I also had a real time trying to explain to her the photo of her and Dom I wanted to recreate. She had no idea what I meant when I said she was the small spoon in prom pose and she didn’t know what face to make even though I said for her to just smile. She held my hands really tightly though, and the photo turned out amazing. I have no complaints.
Tumblr media
Following that, I went for autographs. I had a giveaway and my friend who couldn’t make it to Palooza had asked me to get her Dom and Kat’s autos, so I moved right to that line. I ended up getting in Kat’s line first, and it moved very slowly. She was chatting with everyone, which was actually quite nice. I love when they’re given time to actually have conversations with us. I don’t actually remember the order of what we discussed, to be honest. When I got up, she asked if I had slept on the plane because she had conked out the moment the engine turned on. I shook my head and said I could never sleep on planes. She asked if I was super tired or if the con adrenaline had kicked in. I told her it kicked in some time at the airport and thankfully I wasn’t that tired.
I showed her that I got my tattoo, which she had written for me at EH Con. Since I had decided to wear a t-shirt tucked into my jeans, I had to show it to her on my phone or else I would’ve had to do a weird flash move. She loved it though. I said I knew it was a little ironic to get “everything is temporary” as a tattoo but that it’s something I tell myself constantly. She nodded and said, “The good and the bad, too!” And I just said, “Exactly. It’s a great reminder.” And she loved that I had done matching ones with one of my best friends on my birthday when I got it. She asked if it really hurt and I said it was my most painful and that I kind of wished the words were shorter because I was like, “Please be done soon!” Ribs hurt way more than any of my others. I don’t know how people do intricate designs there. Y’all are superheroes. I said I was also the dummy who got two in one go and she asked about my other one. I told her I got Dom’s butterfly and ended up explaining the significance, which meant she asked me all about the butterfly project, which was a little uncomfortable. I definitely didn’t mean to be like Tragic Backstory Unlocked™ but I was pretty clear that it was a sign of recovery and that I was six years clean. I can’t remember her exact response but it was along the lines of being proud of me. I thanked her and quickly changed topics as she moved to the second signature.
I told her I had gone to see the movie she had recommended on Instagram and she asked which one. I said, “Last Call,” and she asked what I thought. I told her I liked the story but that I was really amazed by how they had pulled off shooting it, which she agreed with emphatically. I said I was about 20 minutes in before I realized there hadn’t been a cut and that this whole movie was one take, but that listening to the cast and crew describe the process after was really phenomenal. She was so excited I had gone and she thought it was pretty amazing. I also slipped and said I had ducked out of CarmillaCon for a few hours to go and she asked how that was as we were taking our selfie. I replied that it was really great and she said she thought it would be and it sounded really cool.
As I was leaving, she hugged me and said it was great seeing me at the airport and again that she was glad I made it this weekend. So….if I’m having heart palpitations, it’s because Kat Barrell is the biggest sweetheart in the entire world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I tried to get into Dom’s line and was extremely bummed to find out I couldn’t. Her line was swarmed by people with fast passes and VIPs so it was barely moving, and they cut it well before her time was up. I was super disappointed, but also I’m glad that they’ve been doing that. Dom is often signing very late overtime because she’s too nice to leave and she loves us all too much for that. It’s really good to see cons taking care of her and the rest of the cast, even if I don’t get to see them when I want.
I got into Emily’s line instead. It was pretty busy and I was only getting a selfie, so it was a quick interaction but she was her usual friendly self and gave me a hug and told me it was nice to see me again. She also really loved my t-shirt – which Dom had also commented on at our photo op – because it was a winking Calamity Jane and on the top it said “loves pussy…” and on the bottom, below the cat, says “cats.” They both thought it was hilarious. The design was mine, and the cat was drawn by my lovely friend Catie. You can find it on Redbubble here, if you like it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That was all I had for the day, so I went out to hang with some Earpers. I chatted with a bunch of them for awhile and went out for dinner before going to the block party. Well, sort of. My roommate and I didn’t want to spend the money for tickets, so we hung out outside with some of our friends who were going in and out and danced around until we went back to our room. And I just want to say here that I met so many new Earpers and got closer with others I haven’t seen much at previous cons. I love this community with my whole entire heart. My favorite people are in this fandom and I wish I could go back and just hug everyone a thousand times.
I was very tired by the time we got back, but my roommate, Autumn, and I still spent awhile dancing around our room and watching the Carmilla movie before bed. It was like 3 AM when we finally went to sleep, which maybe wasn’t the best move since we had to be up at 7 AM the next morning, but it was fun!
I knew the day was busy so I only stuck around for half of the cast panel, and I’ll have to watch the other half on YouTube. I got to see Tim surprise all of us by showing up, though. How cool was that!? Admittedly, some of us thought he might, but that didn’t detract from the moment we heard his voice at all. There were so many screams, and I was stoked. He’s the one cast member I’ve yet to meet and I couldn’t believe I was lucky enough to witness that and to get to see him. He’s such a sweetheart!
I had photo ops first thing but I rearranged to get Melanie’s solo on Sunday so I would have a better chance of getting into the autograph line for Dom. I had a Wayhaught photo that I had planned for ages. I was wearing a blazer and presenting a poster of a study I had generated through R to provide evidence of Wayhaught being the best couple on television. Dom and Kat were both like, “Oh my gosh, what is this!?” when I walked in with it. I introduced Autumn as my research assistant and explained the photo, but they were both trying to read the poster. Autumn pointed out that I had really run this through statistical software and done all the programming for it and I said yeah, it was all mathematically accurate and that even though the data was generated, it’s what I felt was the truth. They loved it, even though Dom added, “I don’t understand a word of this, but it’s so cool!” They were both like, “Wait, so what do you want us to do in this?” because they were too distracted to listen to my instructions and I told them again. It was exactly what I wanted from that photo, to be honest. I love it.
Tumblr media
I really wanted to get Dom’s autos on Saturday since I knew I would have to leave before her session on Sunday. I attempted to get into her line for the early signing but photo ops had run late and the line was huge. Everyone attending Palooza lined up for everything way before they needed to, and that meant it was really hard to get in for much if you had photos. Literally as I got to the front, they cut Dom’s line, so I went for Kat again. I wanted both of them to sign the poster and had forgot it in my room the day before.
Kat tried to read the whole poster again when I brought it up and asked me about it. I explained that I had done it as practice R coding for grad school since I have to do simulations for my thesis. She thought it was really cool. We also talked about my shirt from the day before because she had signed “Nicole loves pussy…cats” on her banner and I commented on that. She said she loved the cat and asked if I had drawn it. I said I did a mock up and sent it to my friend who could actually draw. But she gave me the biggest hug as I left and I don’t even remember if she said anything after that, to be honest, besides goodbye. I was floating a bit.
Unfortunately, in order to get Dom’s autograph, I had to sell my meet and greet with Varun. I was super bummed, but I’m Dom and Kat trash. They’re the reason I go to these cons. And I really needed to get her to sign not only the poster but the autographs for others. I ended up lining up right after I left Kat, even though it was three hours early. Even then, I was not the front of the line, so that tells you how lines were at this con. (It was really chill in every other aspect, though.) I had two photo ops between then and the auto time, so I ended up having a chain of people saving my space in line and like…thank goodness for them, really. I am so grateful. I think I thanked them like three hundred times because it worked.
But first, my photos. I had a solo with Kat next. I shared it with my friend Vanessa, who was dressed as season 3 Nicole. I was wearing another shirt I designed to copy Nicole’s unicorn tee and had specially made, so I was in a very light ‘casual Nicole’ cosplay. We decided to fight over Kat and she was adorable. We also ended up in behind the scenes videos on Instagram and twitter, so that was cool. (There’s also a BTS shot of her signing my poster!)
Tumblr media
Next up was another solo with Dom, and for that I just asked for her to be forehead-to-forehead with me. It’s so cute I don’t think I’ll ever have another profile photo (just jokes – I have a special Christmas one with her and you know I’m too trash not to cycle through photo ops on a loop with her and Kat until I see them again). But I do really love it. As I left, she said, “Thanks Steph!” and I skipped out.
Tumblr media
I was stoked to be able to get into Dom’s autograph line at last and it felt like I was able to breathe because I really, really wanted to see her. Honestly that had been my main draw to come, and I know I’ve been very fortunate to meet her previously, but I didn’t want to let anyone down by not getting her auto and I didn’t want to miss actually getting to speak with her!
When I got up to her, she was a bit busy but that was fine because I still had to fish out everything I needed her to sign. Unlike other cons where autos have been capped at 2, I was able to get all three things I needed! Bless. She apologized for the distraction and I said it was no problem at all.
I talked with her about my tattoo of her butterfly first. Normally I like to ask if it’s okay to get someone’s writing before I jump in and do it, but I hadn’t been able to ask her first. I told her I got it and she thought it was wonderful and asked to see it, so I turned around and lifted my hair and she moved my collar to see it and said it was beautiful. I explained to her why it was so important to me and she also asked about the project and said that was really beautiful and she loved it. She was so sweet and wonderful, really.
Again, though, I didn’t want to linger on that topic. I like to make it clear that it’s healing and recovery, not current struggling. So I told her about how my school doesn’t allow plastic bottles and really promotes reusable bottles and how I loved that they did that. Of course, she dug that initiative.
She got to the poster finally to sign it and I just blushed and said it was the dorkiest thing I had ever done. She said that was awesome and that it was good to be dorky. I said I just wanted to make studying more fun and that was the result. She signed, “Nerdy is beautiful,” on the poster. We took our selfie and I asked if I could give her a hug, to which she replied, “Of course!” I thanked her and she said, “Goodbye angel!” as I left. My friend Autumn was there the whole time and she calls me angel, so she was teasing about how that’s her nickname.
Tumblr media
Following that, I attended the Men of Purgatory panel and just relaxed a bit with my friends. After the con ended for the day, we went to meet another friend while she was getting dinner….and she had been seated right next to Dom, Varun, Justin, and Tim. So wow. We didn’t bother them, of course, but as they were leaving, Dom saw us and waved and said “hi” and told us to have a great night. They were on their way to the concert, I guess! We waited for our friends to finish eating and then went to the lip sync battle, which was really fun. Kevin was in a wedding dress, Bonnie performed to Melissa Etheridge, and Allison did a baller dance to Chicago. I couldn’t help but dance along. I was kind of losing my voice, though, so I didn’t want to stay for karaoke and neither did my friends, so we called it early.
Sunday was busy but much less hectic overall. It started with the Wayhaught panel, which was so cute. You can all thank Nessa for Kat wearing that Stetson, by the way. She’s the same one who gave it to her at EH Con for the Newlywed panel. Anyway my gay really shone and I had so much fun. I can’t wait for that to be released for everyone (and for me to re-watch!).
Next, I had photos with Tim. Having never met him, I asked for a simple hug. He was so soft spoken and sweet. We didn’t talk much, since it was just a photo, but he’s a very kind man and I was thrilled to meet him! Now I’ve met the whole of the main cast and most of the big guests. And they’ve all been wonderful!
Tumblr media
Next was Wayhaught. My friend Catie and I did a joint photo following up on one we had gotten at Expo where Kat kissed my cheek and Dom kissed hers. We switched this time. She asked me if I thought we’d look less like useless gays and I just said, “No.” Spoiler? We didn’t. Dom really did kiss my cheek and that’s never going to get old.
Tumblr media
I stayed behind because I had a second Wayhaught duo just by myself but Dom knew that and Kat didn’t, so she started dancing around away from us and Dom was like, “Uh, Kat?” And she turned back and I grinned and said, “I have another one,” and she laughed and apologized but I told her I didn’t mind. I just asked them to do princess face because, like so many others, I hadn’t thought ahead. Oops? I ain’t mad about the result, though!
Tumblr media
Two of my friends saved us places in line for the Ladies of Purgatory panel, so I went to that next and loved it. I’m not writing much about panels only because they’ll all be online. But oof. Good content. A lot of tears, though.
I left a couple of minutes early to get into line for photos with Mel and Kat. Their photos overlapped, so I asked where to go. They said, “Get in line 12 for Kat first.” Except when they brought up line 12, we were taken to Mel. So I got Mel’s photo instead. It was simple, but at previous cons I’ve never had a solo op with her and at EH Con, she commented along the lines of feeling neglected because I was always doing ops where I was swooning over Dom or Kat. I love Melanie so much, and I went up and just said, “I feel like I never get to tell you how much I love you, so I was wondering if we could just hold each other for a minute.” She was so soft and just said, “Aw, of course! You’re so sweet! Come here!”
Tumblr media
I ran out to get my photo with Kat and asked her if we could hold hands. She took both my hands and I rested my head on her shoulder. She held my hand even as the op ended and gave it a few squeezes and said again how glad she was to see me and said, “Goodbye darling!” as I left. I’m soft. Every time I see this photo, my heart skips another beat because I think about how incredible it was to see Kat in particular this weekend. She really does have my whole heart. What an amazing woman.
Tumblr media
My last photo op was an impulse buy (like as if most of this weekend wasn’t impulse purchases?). Autumn, Sakari and I did an Earp sisters duo with Mel and Dom and asked them to feign fighting. Dom initially went into a stance with her fists up and then Mel did…whatever you call this and Dom reached for her leg. I’m totally laughing in this because I’m not an actor and I was like, “What the heck, Melanie?”
Tumblr media
Autumn and I had to rush out from the con then, sadly, because the latest flights we could get out of St. Louis were at 5:45 PM and we needed to get to the airport. I didn’t even get to say goodbye to most of my friends, which sucks, but it was better to miss a few hours at the end than to miss the whole con.
Honestly, I know I say this every time, but the warmth in my heart after every Earper convention is unmatched. The cast, the beautiful friends both old and new… I can’t say how much it means to me. I don’t have post-con depression, I just straight up miss my people. And I am, more than anything, so grateful to have been blessed with these experiences over the past year. I am so fortunate and so grateful for all of it. Especially to Dom and Kat for their genuine, soft, and kind words, putting me at ease and making me feel so special and seen, and to all my friends who are now some of the most important people in my life for being my backbone and making me feel more confident and accepted… I can never thank you all enough. Con season is almost over so I won’t get to do this again until next year – although I’ll definitely be visiting my friends in the interim – but gosh, I cannot wait. These memories will carry me through not just until then, but for the rest of my life.

Tampa Bay Lightning - Detroit Red Wings
The Lightning head to Detroit in the wake of winning out and about in Boston yesterday. The group should battle a genuine aftereffect impact in the event that they need abstain from dropping focuses against the most noticeably awful group in the NHL. In almost every manner, this is a great snare game.
The Lightning beat probably the best group in the NHL in the Bruins the previous evening. The game, which was a potential future season finisher arrangement see, gained out of power as far as genuineness with different line fights. Consuming that kind of physical and enthusiastic vitality will unavoidably prompt an adrenaline dump after the game.
To aggravate the looming headache, the Red Wings are horrendous. It is hard to discover inspiration against such a powerless rival on an ordinary day. In any case, on a day quickly following what occurred in Boston? It appears to be practically sure that the Lightning will battle to find a workable pace game speed today around evening time. What's more, for no reason in particular, the time changed the previous evening meaning the group's typical routine will probably be disturbed.
Indeed, a great group should at present figure out how to win against an awful group regardless of the conditions. Be that as it may, as far as trap game notice signs, this one is setting off all the alerts. So prepare your headache fixes. We're going to require them. About Tampa Bay Lightning The Tampa Bay Lightning are an expert ice hockey group situated in Tampa, Florida. They contend in the National Hockey League (NHL) as an individual from the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The club has won one Stanley Cup title in their history, in 2003–04. The group is frequently alluded to as the Bolts, and the moniker was utilized on the previous third shirts. The Lightning plays home games in Amalie Arena in Tampa.
The proprietor of the Lightning is Jeffrey Vinik, while Julien BriseBois fills in as senior supervisor. The group is presently instructed by Jon Cooper, who has driven the group since 2013.
In the late 1980s, the NHL declared it would extend. Two adversary bunches from the Tampa Bay Area chose to offer for an establishment: a St. Petersburg-based gathering fronted by future Hartford Whalers/Carolina Hurricanes proprietors Peter Karmanos and Jim Rutherford, and a Tampa-based gathering fronted by two Hall of Famers—Phil Esposito and his sibling Tony. One of the Esposito gathering's key patrons, the Pritzker family, pulled out a couple of months before the offer, to be supplanted by a consortium of Japanese organizations headed by Kokusai Green, a fairway and resort administrator. On paper, it resembled the Karmanos/Rutherford bunch had the more steady offer; be that as it may, it needed to pay just $29 million preceding beginning play, while the Espositos were one of only a handful scarcely any gatherings ready to pay the alliance's $50 million development expense up front.[4] The Esposito gathering would win the extension establishment on December 6, 1990,[5] and name the group the Lightning, after Tampa Bay's status as the "Lightning Capital of North America."
In the wake of being granted the establishment, Phil Esposito introduced himself as president and head supervisor, while Tony became boss scout. Terry Crisp, who played for the Philadelphia Flyers when they won two Stanley Cups in the mid-1970s and instructed the Calgary Flames to a Stanley Cup in 1989, was tapped as the principal lead trainer. Phil Esposito additionally procured previous colleagues from the Boston Bruins of the 1970s, including previous linemate Wayne Cashman as an associate mentor and previous Bruin coach John "Cold" Forristal as the group's mentor. The debut group photograph has him flanked by Cashman and player Ken Hodge, Jr., child of his other Bruins' linemate.
The Lightning knocked some people's socks off in the pre-season when Manon Rheaume turned into the principal lady to play in a NHL game, which additionally made her the main lady to play in any of the significant expert North American games associations. She played for the Lightning against the St. Louis Blues, and halted seven of nine shots.[6][7]
The Lightning played their first ordinary season game on October 7, 1992 in Tampa's little 11,000-seat Expo Hall at the Florida State Fairgrounds. They stunned the meeting Chicago Blackhawks 7–3 with four objectives by little-known Chris Kontos. The group shot to the highest point of the Campbell Conference's Norris Division inside a month, behind Kontos' underlying torrid scoring pace and a breakout season by forward Brian Bradley. Be that as it may, it clasped under the strain of the absolute longest excursions in the NHL—their closest division rival, the Blues, were more than 1,000 miles away—and completed in last spot with a record of 23–54–7 for 53 focuses. This was, at that point, outstanding amongst other ever showings by a NHL development group. Bradley's 42 objectives gave Tampa Bay fans positive thinking for the following season; it would be a group record until the 2006–07 season.
The accompanying season saw the Lightning movement toward the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division, just as move into the Florida Suncoast Dome (a structure initially intended for baseball) in St. Petersburg, which was reconfigured for hockey and renamed the "ThunderDome."[8] The group obtained goaltender Daren Puppa, left wing objective scorer Petr Klima, and veteran forward Denis Savard. While Puppa's play brought about a noteworthy improvement in objectives permitted (from 332 to 251), Savard was long over the hill and Klima's scoring was counterbalanced by his guarded slips. The Lightning completed rearward in the Atlantic Division in 1993–94 with a record of 30–43–11 for 71 focuses. Another frustrating season followed in the lockout-abbreviated 1994–95 season with a record of 17–28–3 for 37 focuses. About  Detroit Red Wings The Detroit Red Wings are an expert ice hockey group situated in Detroit. They contend in the National Hockey League (NHL) as an individual from the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference,[3] and are one of the Original Six groups of the league.[4] Founded in 1926, the group was known as the Detroit Cougars until 1930. For the 1930–31 and 1931–32 seasons the group was known as the Detroit Falcons, and in 1932 changed their name to the Red Wings.[5]
Starting at 2020, the Red Wings have won the most Stanley Cup titles of any NHL establishment situated in the United States (11)[6] and are third generally speaking in complete Stanley Cup titles, behind the Montreal Canadiens (24) and Toronto Maple Leafs (13). The Wings played their home games at Joe Louis Arena from 1979 until 2017, subsequent to playing for a long time in Olympia Stadium. They moved into the new Little Caesars Arena starting with the 2017–18 season. The Red Wings are one of the most famous and fruitful establishments in the NHL; fans and sports analysts allude to the Detroit territory as "Hockeytown", which has been an enrolled trademark possessed by the establishment since 1996.[7]
Between the 1931–32 and 1965–66 seasons, the Red Wings missed the end of the season games just multiple times. Between the 1966–67 and 1982–83 seasons, the Red Wings made the end of the season games just multiple times. In any case, from there on, from 1983–84 to 2015–16, they made the end of the season games multiple times in 32 seasons, including 25-directly from 1990–91 to 2015–16 (not including the dropped 2004–05 season), in 2006 this turned into the longest dynamic dash of postseason appearances in all of North American elite athletics and completed tied for the third longest streak in NHL history. Since 1983–84, the Red Wings have counted six normal season in front of the pack completes and have won the Stanley Cup multiple times (1997, 1998, 2002, and 2008).
Following the 1926 Stanley Cup end of the season games, during which the Western Hockey League (WHL) was broadly answered to be nearly folding,[8] the NHL held a gathering on April 17 to consider applications for development establishments, at which it was accounted for that five unique gatherings looked for a group for Detroit.[9] During an ensuing gathering on May 15, the association affirmed an establishment to the Townsend-Seyburn gathering of Detroit and named Charles A. Hughes as governor.[10] Frank and Lester Patrick, the proprietors of the WHL, made an arrangement to offer the class' players to the NHL and stop alliance tasks. The new Detroit establishment bought the players of the WHL's Victoria Cougars, who had won the Stanley Cup in 1925 and had made the Finals the past winter, to play for the group. The new Detroit establishment likewise embraced the Cougars' moniker out of appreciation for the collapsed franchise.[11]
Since no field in Detroit was prepared at that point, the Cougars played their first season at the Border Cities Arena in Windsor, Ontario.[12][13] For the 1927–28 season, the Cougars moved into the new Detroit Olympia, which would be their home arena until December 15, 1979.[14] This was likewise the principal season behind the seat for Jack Adams, who might be the substance of the establishment for the following 36 years as either mentor or general manager.[15]
The Cougars made the Stanley Cup end of the season games without precedent for 1929 with Carson Cooper driving the group in scoring.[12][16] The Cougars were outscored 7–2 in the two-game arrangement with the Toronto Maple Leafs.[17] In 1930, the Cougars were renamed the Falcons, yet their troubles proceeded, as they normally completed close to the base of the standings, despite the fact that they made the end of the season games again in 1932.[18][19][20][21]
In 1932, the NHL let grain vendor James E. Norris, who had made two past fruitless offers to purchase a NHL group, buy the Falcons. Norris' first demonstration was to pick another name for the group—the Red Wings. Prior in the century, Norris had been an individual from the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association (MAAA), a multi-sport club whose winged-wheel seal got from its cycling roots, and whose hockey group won the main Stanley Cup in 1893. Norris concluded that a red form of the MAAA "Winged Wheelers" logo was ideal for a group playing in the "Engine City" and on October 5, 1932, the club was renamed the Red Wings.[22] Norris likewise put mentor Jack Adams on a one-year probation for the 1932–33 NHL season.[23] Adams figured out how to pass his trial period by driving the renamed establishment to its first-since forever season finisher arrangement triumph, over the Montreal Maroons.[24] The group at that point lost in the semi-finals to the New York Rangers.[25] visit my website.

Nationals Sweep Cards, Head To First World Series.
Cardinals 4 Nationals 7 W-Corbin (1-0) L-Hudson (0-1) SV-Hudson (1)
Baseball in Washington has featured a lot of heartbreak in the past. The Washington Senators weren’t very good in nearly sixty years of existence. They won one World Series in 1924 and two pennants after that. That team moved to Minneapolis to become the Minnesota Twins and DC got a new team in 1961. The new Senators moved to Dallas after only ten years. The nation’s capital didn’t have baseball from 1971 until 2005 when the Montreal Expos moved. Nationals fans still felt heartbreak after some good teams exited early in the playoffs. That would all change tonight as the Nats had a chance to sweep the Cardinals and head to the World Series. The Washington offense got going in the first inning tonight. Trea Turner led-off with a single and Adam Eaton doubled. Anthony Rendon hit a sacrifice fly to center and the Nats were on the board. Juan Soto doubled home a run to double the Washington lead. Howie Kendrick was intentionally walked and Ryan Zimmerman reached on a fielder’s choice. Victor Robles kept the chain moving with a single to right and Yan Gomes plated two more with a single to left. Dakota Hudson exited the game, but the Nationals kept hitting. Patrick Corbin bunted the runners over and Trea Turner knocked in two more with a single to left. This capped off a seven-run first inning that was the knockout punch the Nationals needed to deliver. The Cardinals inched closer in the fourth as Yadier Molina drilled a Patrick Corbin fastball out to center. The solo blast pulled the Cards within six. St. Louis rallied again in the fifth. Harrison Bader led-off with a walk and Kolten Wong singled to right. Dexter Fowler walked to load up the bases. This brought up Tommy Edman, who hit an RBI groundout to second. Jose Martinez drove in a pair with a double to right-center and the Cards were within three. Patrick Corbin managed to get through five innings and the Nats bullpen did the rest. Tanner Rainey had a 1-2-3 sixth, Sean Doolittle had a clean seventh, but ran into some trouble in the eighth. Marcell Ozuna singled off him with two outs and Daniel Hudson entered the game. Yadier Molina was hit in the elbow by a pitch and Paul DeJong walked. Daniel Hudson then retired pinch-hitter Matt Carpenter on a groundout and the Nats were three outs away from a World Series berth. Hudson had a 1-2-3 ninth as the Nationals swept the Cardinals to win their first pennant. After all the heartbreak DC baseball fans finally have a World Series.
-Final Thoughts- Patrick Corbin delivered a decent start for the Nats. He lasted five innings and allowed four runs on four hits with three walks and twelve strikeouts. Tanner Rainey had a perfect sixth, Sean Doolittle got five big outs, and Daniel Hudson got out of trouble in the eighth. Hudson then had a perfect ninth to clinch the pennant. Trea Turner and Juan Soto led the Nats with two hits each. Washington hit 4-for-5 with runners in scoring position and St. Louis hit 1-for-6 with men in scoring position. Kurt Suzuki, Brian Dozier, Anibal Sanchez, Fernando Rodney, Henry Blanco, and Chip Hale are all World Series bound. Brian Dozier will be playing in his second straight World Series. Next up, the Nats get to sit around for a week. The World Series starts next Tuesday night.
