ive never been one to watch or read anime/manga but whats your favorite?

I finally got around to Gurren Lagann, and you have to see this. It's so good, oml. I love Yoko so much, and Simon is such a good character. He has such a good arc. Kamina's also super great and sweet and badass, and as far as guys go he's pretty hot. The Taking of Teppelin also kicked so much ass.

FLCL is also really good!!!!!

I wish I could cosplay TTGL, but I'm pretty sure that my dad would kill me if I did Yoko.

@byakuwan​​ here, being totally self-indulgent with an oc i got convinced to (re)make. yes, i know how this sounds, but i main write/rp current!byakuran and i know what i’m doing.

Formerly "Ghost" - the version of Byakuran that was attempted to be pulled out of another world. It didn't work, the Sky Mare Ring doesn't work anymore post-canon, but he has time and lots of memories of whatever he learned through those parallel worlds. One of his newest goals: make the Lightning Mare Ring holder into a Real Person.

Why? He had the ring and had no idea what to do with it, maybe was thinking about the past when this was on his failed-clone. Uni noticed and asked if he considered 'finding someone new', was shot down, then the conversation shifted to the way he 'brought' Ghost over. The topic of family came up somehow and at some point, Uni said... something that gave Byakuran the idea to try again. “Maybe there's still a 'me' in there, Uni-chan.”

Logistics took a bit, but... the Sky Pacifier had revived everyone who had died and the Sky Mare Ring had brought other physical people over, so... I think they could think up something. It was Uni's suggestion to give himself a sister rather than an identical twin, otherwise everyone would end up very confused.

To those characters who don't know who Byakuran was, Rin is just his "little sister".

How? Byakuran... assumably has XY genes, but the gene in the Y that actually produces the male features gets moved to the X chromosome - a type of Swyer syndrome. He and Uni both went to Verde or someone to help make a clone with his genes, but after shifting that gene over. Science is fascinating!

Swyer syndrome can be treated with HRT, so that's what Rin does.

Personality -

Working on it lmao. Basically thinking she is a little more like future!Byakuran was, rather than the current Byakuran is? Can't define it right now. 50% of that Intimidating Energy/Vibe.

Abilities -

- Carrying over the flame absorption thing from canon: she can sap someone else's flames directly as they're using them and convert it to lightning flames. This is a painful process that would leave burns (or electric scars) if she does this too harshly or quickly. It's a very dangerous ability so she hasn't used it properly yet, and Byakuran completely forbids her from doing this.

- A little flight too? Maybe her wings only come out when she needs them and she can't use them  to float/fly for very long. (Awesome combined with the weapon.)

- AN ELECTRIC GUITAR. (?) She uses it like Haruko from FLCL maybe. 

- Lightning Mare Ring. Not that it really does anything after canon.

i have that canon multi i never use but always talk abt.....i mostly combined everyone bc i thought it might get more traction that way and also to fool people into finally following a blog with howard the duck but i’m thinking maybe i’m better off having a handful of canons after all? considering they’re mostly all different mediums (anime, live action, western comics, novels, etc) and i can’t see a lot of crossover appeal even between series...like, i imagine most would follow for just one singular muse anyway??

Review of My Body is a Cage of Screaming Metal (Pilot Guide)

played: character creation

I made a character 🌟 I couldn't happily fit a 5x5 grid on the half-letter sheet i was using, so i drew the grid 4x6 and just made the Free Space mobile (you discard a d6 to move the Free Spot 1 square up or down.)

I rolled ½d12|½d10|½d8|½d6|½d4 to randomize allocating the opening 6 bonuses to my skills, because i couldn't bring myself to attack a mostly-blank character's starting stats (too much pressure, for me).

I added the subsection "Spirit Album" to the Genre stat. No idea what its for, but i had the space on the sheet, and that's what came to mind. For my character's Spirit Album, i chose 217_tech mech i-iv by el intrudo; it feels Nano-Tech, to me. Another thing i added because i needed to fill the space with something was pronouns for my gender, so I made up some pronouns ("fw/fwd").

Making a character in this play document feels good. The reading flows smooth; as soon as i felt ready to play, the document ended.

The competitive setting mixed with internal struggles of the game brings back to mind Jane Yolan's Pit Dragon light novels (slaves cage-fight nobles to save up enough winnings to buy freedom). Those are good reads. (Wait there's a 4th book noe‽ 👀 ).

The arena feel and visual novel structure in the play doc also gives me big Pyre pleasureshivers. Pyre is a game in the big itch bundle. Play it to see 1 studio's idea of a Screaming Metal campaign. There's a Pyre doc (20 mins) here that covers the basic feel, play, and atmosphere of that game:

I'm sure any sports film (Shaolin Soccer, Varsity Blues, Space Jam, etc) or sports anime (Yowamushi Pedal, Initial D, Yuri on Ice, ect) should have come to mind as well, but that whole camp of media only sprang to mind just now as i write this and not while i was reading through the play doc. So i take it to mean i feel like the game seems only distantly related to those. idk why ― mechanically, mb.

The Screaming Metal Character i made while reading through the rules is below. I love that fw never got a name. I feel like "[my] pilot" is the perfect name for all characters in this game. That's weird. (This game's weird. You play something akin to the being erupting from a heteroglossiaic event. I love it.) If someone asked me to make a callsign for my mech, i think i'd just concatenate my pilot's 2 inventory items. So it'd be Wheeze Candell, here. To create the secret name my pilot calls the mech, i would shorten some part of my pilot's job title to one syllable, so "STAB", here.

1. Your first OC ever? My first OC was named Kaffe and she was one of the Black Waltzes from FFIX lol She had no legs or wings, she just kinda floated, and she had wind chimes on the hem of her robe and brim of her hat

2. Do you have a personal favourite among your OCs? God. Probably Nessa the corgi girl tbh, I put so much work into developing her over like years

3. Have you ever adopted a character or gotten a character from someone else? No unfortunately I’ve seen some that I wanted to adopt but someone else had already got them :(

4. A character you rarely talk about? Any of them? lol

5. If you could make only one of your OCs popular/known, who would it be? Again, Nessa, because people would draw all the lewds of her and nonfurries would get confusing boners, and I think that’s a power I deserve to have

6. Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related? I don’t have any so I’ll just talk about two OCs who accidentally ended up resembling anime character when I first made them. Archi started out as a red coated lightning aligned alchemist with one fake arm until I realized he was just an elven Edward Elric so I’ve changed him up since then. Now he’s missing both arms. 

And then there’s Ambriel who’s my angel’s-consciousness-trapped-in-a-cyborg-body baby, who I designed when I was really really into object heads and accidentally kinda sorta ended up making fuckinnnnn Canti from FLCL somehow! More embarrassing was that I played Ambriel in a one-off rpg campaign and when I detailed it to the GM they were like “...So it’s Canti from FLCL.” and I was all like “NO THIS IS MY OGIRIGNAL CHARACTHER DO NOT STEAL” lmaooooooo I can’t get away from the computer head design though. The body is a lot more human in its proportions

7. Are your OCs part of any story or stories? Archi, Nessa, Lukas, and Ambriel are the main protags of a story I will likely never write, a modern fantasy where god has abandoned the world and everything is starting to go south really quickly; the sky collapsed and sent all the angels to earth where most of them died and their lingering influence, along with the knowledge that god doesn’t care, causes people to go mad and gradually become grotesque monstrosities called The Corrupted. Archi and Nessa belong to the local Alchemists’ Guild and research The Corrupted and the collapsing sky; Ambriel is an angel who was found while dying by a scientist who managed to transfer it into a robotic body and was abandoned after they died, until it was found by Archi; and Lukas just was in the wrong place at the wrong time when one of his neighbors went all max corruption and tore down the whole block.
