I'm rereading gallagher girls and can I just say I'd Tell You I'd Love You But Then I'd Have to Kill You is so funny if you think about it from Josh's perspective.
Like you're just vibing at a fair and then all the sudden you see a girl reaching her hand into a trashcan to grab a soda bottle, you make eye contact and the first thing she says is "I have a cat." You have a silly little conversation about her cat who loves bottles, and learn she is homeschooled for religious reasons and then you leave thinking she's cute.
Then you run into her a few more times including at outside your neighbors surprise party, that she claims she was going to but then never enters. You ask this girl how to keep in touch because you like her, and she says no phone or email, leave notes in this wall instead???? You try to figure out what church this "homeschooled for religious reasons and doesn't have a phone" girl goes to and you have no idea.
You start dating her-still messaging through the wall- she never lets you take her home, she gets really confused when you give her a present on her birthday, almost like she forgot it was her birthday?
Then your friend claims that your girlfriend isn't actually homeschooled, she actually goes to the super exclusive boarding school for rich girls in your home town. When you catch her outside the school, she breaks up with you, claiming she was bored and that's why she dated you and then she IMMEDIATELY GETS KIDNAPPED.
So you do what any normal person would do, you call the cops. you try and rescue her and she's mad about it??? Claims it was a school thing??? And now she's fighting people off and ziplinning away while saying she never had a cat???
So your next rational move is to steal a forklift and drive it through the wall to save your girlfriend from whatever craziness she's involved in.
Then you're taken back to the boarding school, learn its actually a school for spies, your girlfriend is a spy and has lied to you about every single detail about herself, even down to her birthday and her dad being dead. Literally nothing you know about this girl except for her first name is true, and you've been dating for months.
And then her mom gives you special tea that makes you forget everything since she dumped you and you immediately start dating your girl best friend.
Like this poor man lmao

“I wanted a thousand different things as we stood there, but most of all, I wanted the girl who had been beside me in Boston to turn and realize that I was beside her now. ... “This feels like a safe house.” She finally turned to look at me. “Doesn't it feel safe, Cam?” “Yeah, Macey,” I said softly. “It does.”

This just hit me like a truck but that scene in United We Spy where Cammie goes to her room and Zach is asleep on her bed has always been adorable to me but the fact that he felt safe enough to sleep there is just-
Like not just safe because it’s the Gallagher Academy but it’s Cammie’s bed. He feels safe in her room and around her. That’s a big deal. He grew up with Catherine there were probably lots of nights he didn’t feel safe falling asleep around her, under his own roof, in his own room. And yes I’m sure he was exhausted but a lot of times, especially if you’ve experienced trauma and/or your body is expecting it, you can’t relax to the point you’ll actually be able to sleep. So, I think it's a small but important detail that he was able to fall asleep after the mission he was on and where he felt safe to do so.

Matt: [On the phone to Joe who’s babysitting] Keep your eye on Cammie. She has a tendency to wander off.
Joe: [seeing Cammie is gone] Matt... uh, wh-wh... I'm... I'm totally capable of...
Matt: You lost her, didn't you?
Joe: No. No, no, no, no. No, she is right next to me. Hi, Cammie.
Matt: I can hear it in your voice. Look in the dairy case.
Joe: [finding Cammie but struggling with doors] Matthew, do you honestly think that I would lose...
Matt: The doors don't pull. They slide.

In OSOT, when cam comes back, zach says it's different, and he seem a bit distance quite a while, with him & bex always together. Do you think he's also mad at cam that's why? Or something else?
Oh my poor Zachy boy…
Zach’s mad. He’s furious with Cam. He’s pissed at her.
But not for the reasons we think.
Zach is the one who gave Cammie the idea of running away. He said so in OGSY. He told Cam that they should run. That they would keep each other safe. And Cam told him no. Cammie told him that that was not an option.
And what does she do? She leaves without him and she runs.
Zach doesn’t know where she is. She didn’t leave a note for anyone, she didn’t say goodbye, she’s just gone.
Zach has nobody. He can’t go home. He can’t go to his mom. He can’t go back to school. He doesn’t know if Cammie is even alive until they find her in Switzerland. And during that time he has Bex. And Bex is the only constant in his life that summer. She is the only one keeping his feet on the ground and keeping him from doing something stupid. Because if he can’t find Cammie, what does he have left? Joe’s in a coma for goodness sake.
And then to make matters worse, Cam comes back and she’s different. She can’t remember anything from that summer. He doesn’t even want to think about what she could’ve endured. He doesn’t want to process that. Between the sessions with Dr. Steve, the weapons incident, the memory loss, the fact that the Circle is still out there…
He tried to find Cam and he failed.
Things are different between them and while Cam is trying to process that and her missing summer, Zach is trying to process the fact that anything could have happened to Cammie and there was nothing he could do to stop that.

🤧🤧🤧🤧 sorry, not sorry (but I'm kinda sorry cause this kinda of hurt my heart)
@averagejoesolomon
@carryonstarkid
"The more he thinks about it, the more it comes down to the same two options he always runs into: Joe or Rachel. Except this time, the answer ain’t so obvious."
-Full Circle, 1989
I am so in my feelings about this line in particular because it struck me that Matthew Morgan loves these two people so much that he walks this tightrope for the rest of his life. His two soul mates.
He quite literally goes back and forth between the two of them until someone ends the turn on Joe. Just how it started.
Matt in all of his love, takes these two makes them his top priorities. Shows them a lot about true love, which softens Rachel and assures Joe. Matt waltzes into their lives with all the sweetness and promises of rising sun and is torn away like one of those infamous Midwestern tornados.
What's left are two people without their soul mate. Both Joe and Rachel are no longer being loved like they were. Neither is the priority of someone's affection. Connections? Gone. There's essentially a "Matt shaped hole" in their hearts.
Maybe he knew he wouldnt be around forever, so he probably nailed it into both of them that when he was gone theyd need someone. Rachel was allowed to fall in love again. Joe was allowed to fall in love with whoever. That kind of thing?
Matt, in his final act of kindness, gives them one another. Both of them hold one of the last pieces of Matt. They miss that Matt like love. Not that they know it, but they are capable of loving like he did, forever touched by his heart. They slowly realize that they had the same soul mate. In their own way, Joe and Rachel are made for one another......by Matthew Morgan. They are soul mates in their own special way because of him. Ugh. Why.

Find the list of January Prompts I’m participating in here - join in! I love seeing all the different stories people come up with from the same words 💙 I actually didn’t pop the words of the prompt into this one, just more of the general feeling that they brought to me. Please enjoy Joe being Joe and also the tiniest hint of a nod to the listen series by @averagejoesolomon in the form of a spoon, a dad and his daughter in this
Joe could use a shower, a warm bed, and a decent cup of coffee. His jet-lag hasn’t caught up to him just yet, that feeling of an op clings to him, keeping him going far longer than possible. Adrenaline and anxiety curl around tense and tight muscles still, making his brain more alert than it should be.
Which is why he slows his steps when the black town car rounds the corner, heading in the same direction as him. Eyes track the moving vehicle from under aviators as he pulls out the burner, maintaining his course towards the idling jet, dialing the number he’s had memorized for the past several years.
Tumblr media
It rings three times, he speaks five numbers into the receiver clearly, then a click.
“Rachel Morgan, Headmistress of the-”
“Catch me up here, Rach-Ms. Morgan,” he corrects, staring as the car’s red brake lights glow, and a teenage girl climbs out of the backseat.
Rachel’s voice is crackled and stiff over the line, but he can detect the amusement in her tone. “We have an international student who just so happened to also need a lift home. Win-win.”
The teenage girl stands with her arms crossed next to the trunk of the car, a stubborn pout on her lips before she sees him. He can tell she’s startled at the sight of him - hesitant - all of it clear just from her eyes, but she’s pretty good at hiding it - her body language and pout remain intact.
He ducks his head, lips barely moving against the phone as he hisses, “How is me, sitting on a jet, alone, trapped with a teenage girl for eight hours, a win-win, Rachel?”
“You need a ride, she needs a ride, and I need you both here. Quite literally the definition of a win-win, if you ask me. Actually, it’s technically a win-win-win. They should give me a trophy for that many in a row.”
Abe and Grace Baxter climb out of the car and he watches the girl melt into her mother’s embrace as he grows closer to the trio and the waiting jet.
He shakes his head, ever so slightly, and laughs, amused, but irritated nonetheless.
“You know, you’re becoming more and more like your sister each passing day?”
It’s meant as a joke, a light-hearted jab, like they used to. But things aren’t the same anymore, and they haven’t been for quite some time.
If he were there, in person, maybe he’d see her eyes, feel that air that surrounds Rachel and tells him the silent things he needs to know. But he’s in London and she’s in Virginia, and all he can do is listen to the tight way her words come out.
“Well, I suppose I should take that as a compliment. Everyone likes Abby more anyways. Always have, right?”
“Rachel, I didn’t mean-”
“Best get going, Mr. Solomon. At this rate, you and Ms. Baxter will be crashing my welcome back speech.”
The phone clicks and then she’s gone.
He’s at the car now, and Abe Baxter has his hands on his daughter’s shoulders, smiling.
“Don’t forget that thing I taught you with-”
“With the spoon. Yeah, dad, I got it.” She rolls her eyes, tone seeming to be brushing it off, but Joe can see the way she loves her father fiercely, all from those eyes that give her away.
Grace smiles at him, “Sorry we can’t stay and catch up, Joe. Duty calls. Keep an eye on our girl?”
He nods, a short but courteous thing and offers his best smile. He drops the burner, stomps on it, and pulls the pieces apart before tossing it to Abe who catches it without looking up. Rebecca Baxter watches it all with eager, hungry eyes - like a sponge trying to absorb every last drop. He suspects she’ll be one of his new students who gives him a run for his money. And that’s before he hears:
“Darling, give Liz and Cammie our love!”
She waves as the town car doors close, watching until it disappears and her bags and trunks are loaded into the plane.
Joe is fairly certain his heart rate has increased exponentially because not only is he about to be trapped on a plane with a teenager, but a teenager who just so happens to be best friends with the one girl he isn’t ready to see again.
Rebecca turns to face him, her hand out, overconfidence radiating out of her like she thinks she’s a seasoned operative like her parents, like him, and not the inexperienced teenager that she is.
Joe is one thousand percent positive he can hear Matthew Morgan, somewhere, wishing him an apprehensive:
Good luck, buddy. And get ready.

“I suppose a lot of teenage girls feel invisible sometimes, like they just disappear. Well, that's me—Cammie the Chameleon. But I'm luckier than most because, at my school, that's considered cool. I go to a school for spies.”

Abby: Drugs aren't illegal when you put them in food. Everybody knows that.
Rachel: Is that right? I'm not sure that's right.
Townsend: There's drug scones down there! If people eat the drug scones then we'll have drugged those people, Abigail!
Joe: So? Drugging people isn't a crime.
Matt: You two have a very loose grasp of the law.

On the deleted scenes, Ally said that instead of Cam seeing Mr. mosckowitz working out, Zach is also an option. But she still wrote Mosckowitz on the deleted scene. Can you fulfill my (& I know most of us, ahem) fantasy of it being Zach??? Thanks!!!
There's something weird about having boys go to your all-girls school. For one, it's an all-girls school which means no boys. For two, it's a whole different thing when said boys are trained better than you are.
Cammie hadn't realized that with the arrival of these boys, a ton of drama would ensue. She felt like she was drowning. And for the first time in her life, she was starting to feel like she just wasn't good enough.
There was a time when she was one of the best in her class. There was a time when people would see her train and think "I aspire to be that".
But now she was being overshadowed.
And for being the Chameleon? She didn't like it at all.
"One of a girl's greatest assets are her feet. If you cannot balance on the balls of your feet and anticipate where your opponent's feet are moving, you will not make it away from a fight." Ms. Hancock tells them, making her way along the mats on the ground. "Pay attention to your partner's feet. Pay attention to their movements. Do they lean on their left foot before they move? Do they suck in a breath before they punch? Do they pay more attention to your feet or your hands? Anything can give away your next move, ladies,"
Cammie stared at Bex across from her, watching her best friend smirk. She'd been sparring with Bex since the sixth grade. She knew that Bex favored her left leg. She knew that Bex's weakness were her knees and her hair. (Which could be anyone's weakness, but Bex made it personal!)
And without hesitation, Cammie's arm shot out, aiming for Bex's head. Bex dodged it easily, leaning onto her right hip. She ducked and swung her leg out, aiming for Cammie's left knee. But, Cammie sidestepped, making Bex fall to the mat.
Ms. Hancock called time and Cammie helped Bex up off the mats. The two girls grabbed their water bottles, drinking from them eagerly. They started following each other out, chattering on and on about nonsense. Cammie didn't even turn as the group of boys entered the P&E barn, faces already red from doing runs outside.
Bex was the one who stopped her though, hand flying out in front of Cammie's chest before she even made it off the mats. Cammie almost yelled at her in protest until she followed Bex's gaze.
The group of boys, some with their shirts off, were already shoving and pushing each other. They were loud and energetic, hyped up with excitement for their workout. Cammie had never seen anything like it.
Her gaze snags on a certain boy with dark hair, separated from the rest. His shirt is slowly getting drenched in sweat as he lags behind. Most would think he's slow and a weak link but, Cammie knew better. And she hated that the boy in question was making his way over to her.
Or so she thought.
Zach stopped a few feet behind the girls, lifting his shirt to wipe the sweat off his face. He lifted his arms up above his head, his shirt lifting again. The Blackthorne boy shifted on the balls of his feet. Cammie couldn’t stop the image of Zach’s toned calves from entering her mind.
Cammie could feel her cheeks turning red which had nothing to do with the sweat already on her body. She wasn't staring of course but, she could see Zach out of the corner of her eye.
The boys were split away from each other. Some were down on the ground, doing pushups, their legs out straight and their chests a mere inch from the floor. Others had taken it upon themselves to throw punches at each other. But not Zach.
Zach was working out alone, no partner. No spotter. He preferred it that way.
Cammie tried not to notice Zach in the corner of the barn. She tried to focus on her own training or even moving her feet forward. But that was nearly impossible when the Blackthorne Boy in question was doing pull ups.
Zach's face was scrunched up with concentration as he pulled himself up over the bar. He alternated his legs, bringing them to his stomach and then letting them fall, never breaking stride.
Cammie could see the muscles straining beneath his shirt, see the tightening of the skin on his biceps. She could only imagine the smooth skin of his abs glistening with sweat. She knew he had lost count but, Cammie hadn't. 12... 13... 14...
Cammie hit the mat with a thunderous smack.
Her head hit the floor hard, her body crumbling beneath her. The fall left her gasping for air, chest heaving. And all she could see was Bex's snickering expression above her.
"Distracting, huh, Cammie dear," Bex said in her perfect accent.
Cammie coughed, trying to get air back into her lungs. She glared at Bex. Her eyes wide with anger. Until a tall figure entered her cloudy vision.
"Need a hand, Morgan?" Zach said, his eyes glistening with pride. He held out his hand again, this time in her line of sight.
Cammie cleared her throat and grabbed his hand, letting him pull her to her feet. Cammie couldn't look him in the face. She knew her face was redder than Liz when she fell asleep by the pool in Alabama.
"Do you find me distracting, Gallagher Girl?" Zach asked, smirking so wide. He was practically grinning from ear to ear. And Cammie hated it.
"In your dreams, Zachary." Cammie said quickly, before turning on her heel and nearly running out of the barn.
She didn't think she ever felt heat like that when she was training before.
And she wouldn't mind if she felt it again.

CATHERINE GOODE
Still, Matt has one more question that he just can’t seem to shake. “Joe?” he says. “What’s her name?”
It takes Joe long enough to answer that Matt wonders if Joe’s already hung up, and he’s talking into dead air. “Her name is Catherine,” he finally says. “Catherine Goode.”
