#ging and cheadle would love this person
Dating Ging Freeces
Tumblr media
Ging Freecss x fem! reader
Warnings: Swearing, mentions of sex/intimacy but nothing actually happens
A/N: Why do I do this? Because I'm me and I have little dignity left
*slams head against wall repeatedly*
Tiffany you dumb bitch why do you have to develop stupid crushes on toxic men
*rests head on wall, take deep breath*
Ok I'm fine now
Being with Ging is annoying to say the least
Honestly you probably wonder daily why you are still with this man 🤨
But love is a crazy thing YN
In all honestly, Ging is probably more the fwb type
He doesn't like to be tied down
As evident by his lack of parenting to Gon 🙃
Gon you sweet angel you deserve so much better 😫
He'd probably be like "It's ok my dad's an amazing hunter :D"
So if you are looking for a "relationship without labels" Ging's the guy for you
When you first met him, you were turned off by his brass attitude and rude behavior
He's might be shy but he's outspoken on alot of things
If you are a ruins hunter like him, he will test your knowledge, constantly feeling the need to on up you 😒
Yep he's one of THOSE guys
But don't let it bother you YN
Don't play into his games because we all know he's just testing you
When he tries to one up you, just say "oh thats nice"
Ging 👉🏻😐😑
There is no real definite moment in your relationship where you become a couple
Honestly you guys just start hanging out together and that's kind of it
Actually you two probably just sort of form of truce and that's it 🤷‍♀️
Intimacy doesn't start right away
And like your relationship, it kind of just happens
Like Ging will just walk up to you one day, kiss you passionately and that's all she wrote 😅
Intimacy does happen often when he's with you
I will give him this, I think he's a pretty passionate guy
He's also romantic but not on purpose
Will take you to some of the most gorgeous places on earth without even thinking about it
Mans enjoys the little things life has to offer and wants to experience them with you
While he might be romantic, he will also just up and leave you 🙄
After a night of passion don't be surprised if you wake up in a bed alone
He will leave you a note on the pillow that says something like
"I'm off. I'll reach out soon. Ging"
You will have to be pretty secure to be in a relationship with Ging
Mans will not contact you for weeks or even MONTHS!
And when he does, it's not much
Just a text or two
BUT they are cute 🥺
"*sends picture of gorgeous landscape* I can't wait to bring you here" or "the only thing that could make this place more beautiful is you"
😫😫😫 mans is romantic
He's also possessive and jealous as HELL
Seriously, you two might not have a defined relationship
But Ging will make it VERY well know that you are his and his alone
Even if some guy is merely talking to you, Ging is in the corner, glaring 😑
He's literally a child YN
Gon and Killua are more mature 🙄
You are a social and sweet person
Many hunters think of you as a literal Angel sent from heaven
And they truly have no clue why you are with Ging 😒
Honestly that's the question that surrounds most of the Zodiac meetings
Oh, btw you and Ging serve on the zodiac council together
And while Ging rarely shows up, you often get hounded about you relationship
Totally get thrown under the bus with that one YN
"Alright before we start does anyone have any issues to being up?"- Miss Cheadle asks
"Yeah I have a question, YN when are you going to realize how shitty Ging is and dump his dumbass?"- Kanzai asks
You 👉🏻😐🙄
"Seriously YN you are gorgeous and perfect and Ging, well Ging is Ging!"- Pyon asks
"Everyone please! This isn't a quarrem about YN and Ging's love life"- Cheadle adds
"Thank you"- you
"Even if we are all confused as to why someone like YN would date Ging, we should be respectful"- Cheadle
You 👉🏻😐 thank you
"I mean, the man is a literal child abandoning jerk who rarely shows up to meetings but it's not about that! I'm sure Ging and YN make a great couple"- Cheadle
You 👉🏻😐 yep
"And I'm sure whatever weird connection they have makes them both happy even if Ging tends to ruin everything"- Cheadle
You 👉🏻 ight imma head out ✌🏻
I told you, you gotta be tough to be in a ship with Ging YN
And when Ging does show up to meetings, you can bet there is ONE person who will irritate him to no end
"I'm so sorry to keep everyone waiting, where is Miss YN?"- Pariston says smirking at Ging
Ging will probably growl at the mere mention of your name from Pariston's lips
You come in the conference room and take you seat next to Ging
"I'm sorry, Beans needed my help with something"- you say smiling and sitting down
"Miss YN you are always so kind and giving! I would live to have someone like you working at my agency"- Pariston smirks
Ging will seriously be growling so loud at this point
YN do something 😫
"Pariston, thank you but I'm very happy where I am"- you say calmly
Ging grabs your hand under the table because the feral man needs to chill out
But don't worry, that won't stop Pariston
Oh no no no
Because he's equally as annoying as Ging 🙃
God I'd HATE being a member of the zodiacs with those two on board 🥴
At every turn, Pariston is trying to get under Ging's skin
"Miss YN, can I just say how beautiful you look today?"- rat man
Ging 👉🏻😑😠
You 👉🏻 😐 🙄 thank you Pariston
"Miss YN you should be vice chairman when become chairman. I'd love to work closely with you"- Pariston
"OVER MY DEAD BODY RAT"- Ging yells 🤬
You 👉🏻😐🤦‍♀️ thanks Pariston but I think I'll pass
But the absolute best thing EVER happened during the question and answer session the zodiacs held for the hunters
You know the one where Leorio punched Ging 🤪
Honestly classic 👌🏻
You sat there while the crowd applauded Leorio for his amazing performance
"I told you to go visit him"- you say as Ging gets up from the floor, rolling your eyes
As you stand up to check on Ging, you cross in front of Pariston
Causing the rat to stick his leg out and "accidently" trip you
As you fall, gracefully 💅🏼
My headcanons and I always wished I was graceful so let me live my dreams ☺️
Pariston stands quickly and catches you mid fall, like in one of those romance books
You stare into his eyes, blushing
"My goodness Miss YN, are you-"
Before he can finish, Ging's fist is connecting with Pariston's face and that's all she wrote
"I said, get the HELL away from my girlfriend you rat"- Ging
You 👉🏻👁👄👁 girlfriend?
The zodiacs 👉🏻😱 he finally admitted it
All the Hunters 👉🏻 standing ovation for Ging punching Pariston 👏🏻
It's like the WWE up in here!
After the meeting, you help patch Ging up
"Girlfriend huh??"- You say trying not the smile
Ging rolls his eyes
"Well it's true isn't it?" He scoffs
"Yeah I guess just never thought I'd see the day"- you shrug
"Well I guess I just need to introduce you to Gon then"- Ging says
"Oh I already met him"- you waving your hand
Ging 👉🏻😃 whet-
"Yeah Kite introduced us. He's a really sweet boy Ging, not sure where he got that from"- you chuckle
"Hey I'm sweet! I defended you against Pariston didn't I?!?"- Ging groans
"Like I couldn't have handled him? How do you think I've managed at meetings when you don't show up?"- You
Ging 👉🏻😑 I'm going to kill that asshole!
You roll your eyes knowing Ging is a true man of his word 🥰

Ok I’ve got another weird scenario for you. Ok so Pariston has taken a liking to someone but they’re uninterested in him. He tries to talk to them and they excuse themselves. He flirts with them but they politely refuse. He plays mind games but it reverses and THEY start to psychoanalyze HIM. Is he the type to get more infatuated, or become bored and stop, or threaten them, or continue on teasing like this...?
(Wolf: Oh, I don’tknow about Pariston but I would love to see him meeting someone like that! And I love thosescenarios so much!!!).
Tumblr media
To predictPariston’s behavior is not easy, since this man can be even more twisted thanIllumi or Hisoka, but one thing we can be sure is that he would be shocked atfirst, for there are few people who he cannot charm or that can go toe-to-toewith him in the matter of mind games. How did you turn the tables on him whenhe was talking to you? Wait, did you just dismiss his invitation for dinner asif it was a waste of time (though keeping a tone of politeness)? Well, well…You’re an interesting one, aren’t you?
Yes. Whetherhe becomes more infatuated or not would depend, but don’t fool yourself intothinking this man would eventually just leave you alone, no matter if you wishso dearly for it.
Pariston isnot one to back off and, exactly because it isn’t often he meets people likeyou, it would only make things more interesting in his opinion. As for howthings would develop from this point on, it would depend on several factors, the main one being what type of person you are and how strong his (possible)feelings for you are.
What we cansay for sure, as mentioned, is that to become bored and leave you be is themost unlikely option to happen no matter what, as Pariston would consider thisthe equivalent of abandoning a very amusing toy. After all, he’s just began toplay with you! After all, he truly couldn’t care less if he loses or wins as long as things remain interesting and when will he find someone who can standagainst him like you’re doing?
And oh, doeshe enjoy a challenge!
Even if youwere to pretend having no defenses anymore or being so tired that you’ve givenup, Pariston would see through this, applying all the techniques (and believeme, his imagination is fertile for such things) he can in order to make youreact again. He wouldn’t appreciate this behavior, after all, it would be likeyou’re ruining his fun.
Becomingbored would only happen if (“and when” he would say) he manages to break you…And even then, he might decide to keep you nonetheless. Like I said, it woulddepend on several factors.
The relentlessteasing would continue, with Pariston even stepping it up bit by bit, both tosee until where you can take and because, well, he is having a very good timeand this is enough. What other reason does he need?
What you cansee as dangerous/annoying/bullying, he sees as a fun game (we can all agree he is twisted, right?), even makingthe most innocent-sounding excuses if someone were to call him off (such as theclassic “It’s just a joke, I’m justplaying”). And you better be ready for torment. Make no mistake, this manhas no qualms in using not only psychological tricks of any kind but alsotouching wounds you’d rather forget (and he canfind out about them), all with the delight of a young boy who thinks it’s funto torture a dog just to see what the animal can bear before dying.
You may havea very hard time when trying to understand if he is interested in you as ahuman being or as a toy that exists only to be shattered.
After all,Pariston himself said he finds happiness in being hated and feels the impulseof hurting what is dear for him.
In the caseof affections being involved (and they may have come to exist during yourinteractions), he will become even more interested, after all, you’ve provedthat you can take “his kind of love”. Oh, he is aware that this behavior isn’tthe type that will make you go on a date with him, but he can find satisfactionin your hate just as well. And after all, in a way or another, you’reacknowledging his existence.
Don’t expecta normal courtship. While he may give you flowers or something, each gift orcompliment may be laced with poison and suggestions that may sound like threatsrather than anything else. It’s like you’re receiving gifts from your worstenemy. And if this little “dance” continues for the rest of your lives, he isfine with it… Unless he cares more about havingyou with him than to carry the game in the way things are now, but it will takea while before he does something about it (he will enjoy this situation for aslong as he can before taking action).
If thathappens, then all bets are off and everything is fair. Being the patient sort,he can employ several means to get to you, but if the time comes when he can’twait anymore and needs to threaten you (or your loved ones), so be it. He won’tbe losing any sleep over it!
In this case, even after forcing you to be with him, Pariston wouldn’t do anything to breakyou… At least not right away, as it’snot your submission he wants and those games are too fun to be come to such aboring end. You’re far more interesting than someone who throws himself at hisfeet (such toys can get old after a while). You can love or hate it, he will behappy either way.
That’s not tosay Pariston might not decide it would be even better to break you very slowly(love notwithstanding). It would depend of what seems more appealing to him.
If hisinterest in you is the same he would have for someone who can face him, thingsmay follow in a similar manner, as he wouldn’t just back away. The sameprinciple remains that you’re one of the few who can stand up against him likethat. In a way, it would be like it was between him and Netero, with hisfeelings being between liking you and hating you…
Not that youwould feel the difference easily.

What are your thoughts on Netero’s morality? Like in contrast to popular fanon? I see people say he’s awful because he’s willing to put kids in danger but then I see people imply the poor man’s rose was a necessary evil (which is an extremely tone-deaf, American take when you consider people say that to justify Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which the act has obvious illusions to). Additionally, the morality with him being fine with the DC exhibition as long as he’s not alive to see it?
i’m not interested in picking which hell he goes to, but i can give you thoughts.
child endangerment, general endangerment
not a single character in this series objected to gon and killua taking the hunter exam on the basis of safety. netero spurring them on and allowing them to join the extermination team is a difference of degree. how you'll feel about that depends on whether you accept the narrative's premise that being a hunter is worthwhile self actualization for overpowered middle schoolers.
the mission is still clearly out of their league, but the only in universe objections (bisky, ging) are made on pragmatic, not moral grounds.
i think what gets lost is that netero's extreme challenges are not out of cruelty, apathy, or even stringent expectations. we see him chiding menchi into giving the examinees she failed another chance, slowing the airship so gon can rest, being shamed by komugi's fatal injury, refusing to be spared as a "worthy" human if it means the rest are kept as livestock, making the dark continent taboo when hunters die imitating him.
he is simply insane. he whole heartedly believes in pushing oneself to the very limits, earning the disapproval and incredulity of colleagues who are extreme outliers themselves.
Tumblr media
as well as their admiration, devotion, and respect.
poor man's rose
while the rose is an unambiguous allusion, netero's use of it is in deliberate contrast to that kind of situation; he hired zeno to lure meruem out into the desert for single combat warfare. the logic of killing meruem to save a greater number of human lives is the same whether it's by the bodhisattva or a bomb.
some reactions from japanese fandom: discussing why the rose wasn't used sooner, more strategic uses of it, the bomb as a ploy to halt power inflation, relevance of the fukushima disaster (which happened between the releases of chapter 310 and 311)
detonating the rose is evil because the rose shouldn't even exist. its sole purpose is to metastasize death, and making that the instrument of your salvation—with that scale of poisonous history—would mean the loss of all your justification and humanity.
Tumblr media
as the extermination team fights for the cause of humanity, they repeatedly cause the detriment of one particular human. komugi is injured during the initial assault, she’s used as a hostage, and finally, she’s the sole noncombatant to die by the rose’s toxins.
palm and ikalgo hiding her from meruem is what prompts this line:
Tumblr media
were these actions “necessary” if your only concern is survival? could a better diplomat than netero have talked meruem into respecting human life?
it’s not clear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
it might have taken the shock of being on the verge of death, only able to find the person he loves at someone else’s mercy, to stop seeing all other individuals as inferiors.
it's understandable that netero didn’t want to chance it with 5 million people waiting to become super soldiers or corpses in a matter of hours. however, you can absolutely fault him for letting it get to that point, for not being decisive until after the king was born. i wouldn’t go so far as to say he was only thinking of the ultimate fight, but his arrogance and carelessness has a body count.
dc expedition
speaking of body counts, netero’s concern for the welfare of the association and its members is ultimately outweighed by his ambitions for the same. sure, he can’t stop anyone from going once he’s dead, but he made his last request a competition against his son. it’s selfish, as he admits. but it’s a decision to be made by his successors, not him, and cheadle sighing that she has no choice is her choice.
ging and pariston arguing over #WWND is a continuation of the zodiacs bickering over netero’s will in the previous arc. it’s a paradoxical argument—netero can’t be in the position of acting on his own legacy—because even netero’s stated wishes are less important then what his followers see in him. in short, his opinion on the expedition from the grave is less important than the cumulation of the myriad and contradictory actions he took during his life.
as for the scramble for resources, it’s difficult to tell whether he would have anticipated the change in international policy or cared about it. so far there’s been few details about the nature of past expeditions and the exact plans for this one. there’s a lot to wait on in that department.

Since I just plowed through all the manga content from where the anime left off, here are my first impressions presented without much reflection:
I love Ging ?!?!
Ging and Pariston dynamic is excellent and I miss them more than any other characters right now
[insert THAT pariging panel]
This throw away line is far too fucking funny to me:
Tumblr media
I have a lot of thoughts about the last time we see Gon and I need to chew on 'em a bit
The Nanika Ai reveal was a lil spooky but if Alluka trust her, then I do too 💕
Didn't care too much for Hisoka v Chrollo but I think it will still be enjoyable to watch if ever animated
I don't really care too much about what the Troupe is doing either tbh just want them to die
Kurapika is Very Serious and without a balanced supporting cast the succession war is not as enjoyable as it should be. By balance I mean, we need some moments of levity, where characters can breathe. I understand Pika is under a lot of pressure so taking some time to focus on others not in dire circumstances would be welcome. IMO. I think the most we got of that is that one dude thirsting after Bisky, lol. (Her buff manga form is cute tho so I agree with him.)
Actually I think Bisky and Hanzo interactions could be really funny wish we just had some random moments with them
Really NO COMMENT from the Hunter Association/Cheadle about whatever the hell Kurapika is up to?
The Melody focused story with Fugetsu and Kacho was sweet 😥
The only new character in the succession war that I personally have any feelings/investment in is THETA. Togashi PLEASE I BEG YOU write her a satisfying story please

Divorce Papers 2
An excerpt from an old hxh urban fantasy/horror AU WIP I revisited recently centering around Cheadle, werewolf!Leorio, and the world falling apart around them. There are a lot of things I don’t like about that story, and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to it. However, rereading it, I found the most interesting parts of it - exactly as I thought last year - to be the ones about Cheadle and Ging’s expired marriage. Considering my current story, I was onto something with that. Either way, I remember liking these parts, of lesser quality as they are, and wanted to salvage them from the heap of forgotten things.
Parts 1, 3.
She can remember a sunny day spent on those same tracks more than a decade ago. Not on a train - the old train had disappeared long before that - but on foot, walking and walking under the spring light, walking tirelessly because the job was new and so was love.
They didn’t hold hands in public because she did not like it and neither did he. So they strolled side by side, his hands in his pockets, hers clasped behind her back, reeling back and forth, feet moving at matching speeds. With hindsight, she thinks that perhaps they never had fit together, but there were times when they had and that day was one of them. Is that why the memory of it persists? But so do other memories, of uglier times, of times when she had wished a train would run over one of them.
However, that day she had wished they could walk forever, just like that, silent except for the casual, teasing comment, or pointing out something in the desolate scenery with an awkwardness and shyness that had never left their relationship even after marriage.
Their shared moments of vulnerability were scattered about, few and distant. She used to blame herself for that. Knowing him, he blamed neither of them. He pretended not to think of such things at all but she knew otherwise. High above it all he still saw.
The last argument was strangely calm and civilized, crushingly quiet, like they were exchanging the finer details of a surprise party, hushed and wary as if a child was sleeping in the next room. But there was no child and no surprise parties, just the two of them in their bedroom - cold because the AC was broken, cold because everything was broken - deciding to get divorced.
For the first time after they made their decision, hunched over the divorce papers, she finally cried. He didn’t take her seriously when she shed tears and for that she remained dry-eyed until the very end, until she couldn’t anymore. She resents him for it now, but back then she believed it was her fault for feeling so small, for taking it too personally, for shrinking on herself like food left out to rot.
When the proceedings were over and they stood in front of each other - this is it, she thought, he’s not my husband anymore - her tears had dried and she knew she had to play the role of the friendly divorcee, to be mature and good-natured, to wish him a good life, hope to see him around, whatever bullshit people told each other when they broke up, and so she did. She said all the necessary things, acted in all the proper ways, yet all she had wanted then was to dig her nails into his skin, claw his eyes out, yell at him until her world was forced to make sense again, wished they could tear each other apart until love was miraculously rekindled.
He had seen through her façade and let her have it anyway.
She did see him, after that. Many times. Working in the same place made running into him an inescapable reality.
Coming here to this place, trailing the damaged, rusty railway with her footsteps, counting the trails left of it, the new, raw grass spearing out of the soil, she hopes to breathe, in a way to reconfigure herself without him in the same places they frequented, to reclaim what she’s always loved, without him. To finally accept that they exist in the same place and that it’s alright.
He still comes here, too, sometimes, probably not as much as she does, but it’s not forgotten; she knows that not because she had caught him in the act - as much as she wishes that were the case - but because he had told her. Over coffee in the tower cafeteria he divulged this to her like it was nothing, like it meant nothing, casually, in that breezy way he talks when he’s comfortable. She hated that he was comfortable in her presence.
Couldn’t she just be his crazy ex-wife, did she also have to be his friend.
It’s midnight and she is alone with the lulling waters to her left and an abandoned church with a front once adorned with long stained glass windows to the right, but even those are now gone. Broken, stolen. It stood discarded, gradually melding into the other structures around it, yellow even in the darkness.
He sees this in the daylight. His feet trot here in the afternoons and the day has long passed that time. It’s as if they are performing watching duty for each other.
Not for the first time, the attempt to appropriate the place for herself has failed.
This is the place where nothing matters anymore. Where things that don’t matter stay.

KuraNeon and Cognitive Dissonance Theory
Someone: “Eww you like KuraNeon? But doesn’t he not like her because she’s a flesh collector?”
Me:
Tumblr media
Okay, first off, Kurapika doesn’t necessarily hate Neon. I honestly can’t recall anywhere in hunter x hunter where he criticizes Neon’s attitude or her hobby in thoughts or voicing it out. Yes, he did display a strong prejudice on flesh collectors and vows to arrest them; Melody also rephrased it and said that he’d kill Neon if he has to. However, there was literally no indication of Kurapika being annoyed with Neon even. In fact, he was so surprised to see the flesh collector, his boss, being a young girl (as I am too). I’d say it completely destroys his initial expectation/imagery of what a flesh collector should be.
Secondly, let’s just say... it’s hella saucy if Kurapika starts liking Neon.
Imagine the MENTAL STRAIN Kurapika has if he ever finds himself liking a flesh collector aka Neon. Can you imagine the cognitive dissonance he has? HUGE bruh.
Tumblr media
Source: https://elearningindustry.com/apply-cognitive-dissonance-theory-elearning
Okay, just a layman explanation of Cognitive Dissonance Theory: It’s when a person’s beliefs has been inconsistent with his/her actions. They feel cognitive dissonance because there has been a discrepancy between what they know and what they are doing.
There are three ways a person can resolve cognitive dissonance:
1) Change Belief
2) Change Action
3) Change Action Perception
Now, let’s apply it to Kurapika liking/lusting after Neon. He can either:
1) Change belief - which is about his prejudice on flesh collectors. This will likely not happen because flesh collectors are indirectly the cause of his clan’s demise.
2) Change action - stop liking/lusting for Neon. This is possible but when you’re around someone and you have to guard them for 24/7; it’s going to be very difficult.
3) Change action perception - think of Neon as more than just a flesh collector. This is likely what will happen. Kurapika is smart enough to realise that Neon is a girl who has had poor upbringing by her dad and had been exploited for power gain among the mafia.
Tumblr media
HOW INTERESTING OF USING THEORIES FOR YOUR ANIME SHIPS HAHAH. I love this ship because it opens up to this possibility and potential conflict; and it’s even indicated in Cognitive Dissonance Theory.
Call me nuts, but I guess I like using psychology theories to help me build up concepts of pairings because these theories have been studied in actual human behaviours. You can say it’s “impossible” because she’s a “flesh collector”, but it really isn’t. According to Cognitive Dissonance Theory, it can happen with some mental adjustments.
Of course, I’m not stating that it’s canon or anything, all I’m saying is that it’s not 100% impossible in terms of HUMAN BEHAVIOUR and this conflict makes the concept of KuraNeon really interesting for me, rather than some boring-ass vanilla ships.
I think there are other ships that falls into this same vein (e.g. Chrollo/Kurapika, Ging/Pariston, Cheadle/Pariston) but I guess KuraNeon is more of a clear cut because of her diva attitude and Kurapika’s affiliation with the Nostrade Family.
He’s the Nostrade Family Young Boss now because he’s married to Neon.
Tumblr media
Now, you’re all wondering, Kurapika can’t possibly like Neon because they are totally opposite or assuming that “she isn’t his type”. How are we supposed to know what type of person Kurapika likes? Just because a person is very opposite to someone, it does not necessarily mean that they aren’t his/her type (I’d try to get some scientific stuff on opposites attract later on).
Also, if you haven’t noticed, Kurapika became close friends with Melody, Leorio and Gon - people who are the complete opposite of him. Arguably, I’d say Killua is the most similar to him and yet they are not as close as he would be to Melody or Leorio. In fact, he seems to be get attached to people even if he doesn’t want to or he’s annoyed with them at first, as evident by the way he got angry at Uvogin when he heard that the Phantom Troupe killed his co-workers, when initially he did not want to get close to anyone.
People say he’s cold, but I’d argue that he does get attached, but tries to separate himself from people. He’s not avoidant-dismissive attachment style, he has avoidant-fearful attachment style. In fact, Neon is actually more of the avoidant-dismissive attachment style, meaning that she’s less likely to get attached to anyone more than him. I’d talk about Attachment Style Theory in another day.
Regardless, sometimes when it comes to shipping, you just need a bit of imagination.
Tumblr media
I truly don’t get why people would want to diss on another’s ships and state that it’s a crack-pairing and it isn’t canon. In fact, in Hunter x Hunter, almost none of the pairings are canon! Even if they have a lot of interactions, there’s hardly any concrete indication that they are canon or they are implied ever so faintly.
I think so long as you can make a pairing work in fanfics/fanarts and have your own concept while using their canon personality, anything’s possible.
For me, KuraNeon and the concept of Cognitive Dissonance is my jam and motivations for liking this ship.
Also, in mobile games:
Tumblr media
Not really entirely a crackpairing tbh.

Divorce is worse the second time around
A shitpost fic you didn’t want and I didn’t want but my brain really did.
-----
It is a pleasant day for the Zodiacs, and they are getting ready to wrap things up for the day, blissfully unaware that they are going to be unwilling witnesses to Pariston Hills most recent breakdown in reaction to his impeding divorce.
------
AO3 Link
The day had gone by peacefully for Cheadle Yorkshire. She had finished a lot of stuffy paperwork for the zodiacs, brought a satisfying conclusion to arguments dividing the group, Netero was nowhere in sight to dump more work on them, and now she was preparing to wrap the meeting up, double checking her days schedule for any missed meeting points, blissfully sipping on some black tea.
“Well, I don’t see any more need for discussion, and I am sure we all have better matters to attend to, so why don’t we conclude the meeting for today?”
“Sounds like you specifically want to wrap it up quickly, Cheadle. Is her highness waiting for you?” Gel chuckled, teasing a slight blush from Cheadle’s cheeks with the implications of her girlfriend. She was right, but she didn’t have to say it in front of everyone.
Pyon looked up from her phone, “No matter the reason, I wanna leave as well. It’s been so quiet, if I don’t go now, I’ll take a nap right here.”
Cheadle dropped her cup, staring at Pyon with a mixture of shock and rage. “Why did you have to say that, Pyon.”
“Huh?”
The sound of distant footsteps could be heard.
“My next point of schedule is that no one is every allowed to say the Q-word again, everyone.” Cheadle buried her face in her open palms, painfully aware of what was about to happen.
Neither Pariston nor Ging had shown their faces the entire day. And there was usually a good reason when both nuisances were missing.
With a loud bang! the conference room doors blew open, and Pariston entered, sobbing and sighing as if his life depended on it.
Cheadle quickly tapped on her phone:
“Me @ C.<3: Meeting’s going to be longer today.”
Pariston sunk into his chair with a dramatic twirl, leaning back and covering his eyes with his arm. “Everyone, I apologize for arriving more than fashionably late today. However, I’ve been met with a personal tragedy, life ruining really, and couldn’t leave my home until now. I don’t want to talk about it, I don’t need your pity, and its oh too painful to even speak of!”
Silence befell the room.
Cheadle thought about just packing her things and leaving. Pariston was unmoving.
She exchanged looks with Pyon who started charging her phone with a power bank, in anticipation of a long night.
Cluck was the first one to break the silence. “Well, whatever, Cheadle you were sa- “
Interrupted by a sigh so loud and agonized that even creatures on the dark continent might have heard it. “Fine~ I can tell that all of you are just so on edge to know what could possibly shake me to my core like this!”
Pyon let her head fall onto the desk, defeated “We really weren’t- “.
“Ging handed me the divorce papers today. After all I’ve done for him! Sure, I put all his clothes in a trash bag and set it on fire, but what else was I supposed to do after he forgot laundry day for the third time, he’s never going to learn his lesson otherwise!”
“Wait, didn’t you get divorced 5 months ago?” Cluck asked, followed by a chorus of groans because she dared to entertain the drama king’s newest theatrical release.
“That divorce never got finalised after we made up during a passionate night on the beach.”
Kanzai felt himself puke in his mouth a little.
“And this morning I was expecting my daily espresso, but instead he just handed me divorce papers and left! The audacity to not even argue with me in public about it! He probably doesn’t even want to take custody of our kid this time either!”
“Your what?” Pyon looked up from her mobile version of PUBG.
“This time?” Cheadle chimed in, halfway through an astral projection into her home.
“During the last divorce I took custody, under the belief that he’d argue with me about it and we would have to go to court together, but instead the said ‘thanks’ and disappeared for 4 weeks!”
“That poor child.” Mizaistom added, secretly taking notes to inform child protective services, though Pariston lazily waved a hand, fake tears dried up.
“Oh, it’s all on paper. He lives with his aunt- or cousin? Ging is surprisingly vague when it comes to that, but at least most of the time he remembers her name.” He laughed, no one else joined him. “Ahem, the point being, this divorce I am forcing him to take Gon under his name, and he’ll see me and my new Armani suit in court if he refuses!”
He was finally sitting up straight, wiping the last few dried tears from his eyes. “Now, I don’t want to pull all of you into my complicated love life, so I am not asking anyone to take sides.”
A sigh of relief echoed through the room. No one wanted to be on either side.
Pariston leaned uncomfortably close towards Cheadle, voice barely above a whisper, “But I know no one here is a filthy Liberal, and would disregard my years long dedication to our organization~”
“Breathe into my general direction one more time and I am going to lobotomize you with my teeth.”
“Impressive!”
Cheadle forced herself to smile as politely as her remaining nerves granted her to. “If that is all, rat, I’m sure you’d like some time for yourself in this difficult time, so we really shou- “
The conference room doors flew open again, this time to a visibly agitated, and dripping wet Ging.
Pariston leaned over to Cheadle again, though he wasn’t breaking eye contact with his soon to be ex-husband. “I may have cut the breaks of his car in an emotionally upstirred fit, though I didn’t factor in water. Ging, did you take my dry-cleaning out of the car, that was quite expensive, you know?”
“I fetched it out of the water, don’t worry, and I was nice enough to throw it in and around your office. I may have knocked your computer off the desk in the process.”
“Wreaking havoc in my office without me? How disappointing.”
“I was thinking of you when I was kicking the door in.”
The air of the room had become uncomfortably stuffy, warm, and smelled of rotten fish.
The rest of the Zodiacs were desperately trying to look anywhere but the scene unfolding in front of them, and Cheadle got out her phone again.
“Me @ I. Netero: I want to leave the Zodiacs.”
Instant reply.
“I. Netero @ Me: No <3.”
When she looked up, Ging was sitting on Paristons lap, choking him while talking about redistribution of property during the divorce.
She rested her face in her hands, idly thinking about if she were to get a discount if she hired the same hitman for two murders.

I think I know who Gon’s mother is.
Now, I know we all like to joke about pregnancy stones - but we all know deep down Togashi probably isn’t going to make that canon. However, I had a shocking realization - one that only becomes more solid as you look for evidence.
Many of you might not like this theory. I’m still struggling to accept it. But believe it may very well be the truth.
So, let’s review some stuff we know. I’ll be going off of manga canon, as it’s directly from Togashi himself.
Tumblr media
1. Gon’s mother isn’t dead, and let Ging take custody of Gon.
Is it possible that Ging is just a lying bitch? Of course. But let’s assume this is the truth. If his mom was dead, Ging would have said so. We can therefore infer that the mom IS alive. Not only is the mother alive, but she chose to let Ging take custody of the child when they split. I doubt Ging would have been fighting for custody, after all.
2. There are probably clues to her identity.
This is just a given. Togashi is a good writer - if she’s a character we already know, the hints are already there. There are most likely personality traits or skills that Gon has that he inherited from his mother.
3. She has green hair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gon is basically a clone of Ging in every possible way, aside from the hair color. Ging has always been shown to have black hair. Gon’s hair is often stylized as black, but we can see in the image above that his hair is clearly green.
Some of you may have your suspiscions by now. Yes, I am proposing that Gon’s mother is none other then...
Tumblr media
Cheadle Yorkshire.
Going over my points - she fulfills them all. She’s clearly not dead. She has green hair. And if you look closely - her fingerprints (or pawprints, I suppose) are all over Gon.
Tumblr media
The story makes complete sense, when you put it all together. Cheadle and Ging met (presumably because of the Zodiacs), had a love affair, and Cheadle became pregnant. She is... not thrilled about this.
Not only would caring for a child put all of her career aspirations on halt (she’s a triple star hunter, a doctor, AND a lawyer. she kept pretty busy), but the child could also cause a scandal if it came out that Ging was the father. Two of the most politically powerful Hunter’s having a child out of wedlock! Not just that - they had already broken up.
Cheadle goes into hiding to conceal her pregnancy, and makes the difficult decision of leaving Gon in Ging’s care. She was a busy woman with ambitious goals - and she and her ex weren’t getting along great. She knew that she wouldn’t be able to be active in his life.
The reason she and Ging get along so poorly is because they’re exes!
It also reframes her relationship with Leorio - a healthcare worker who is almost like a parent to Gon. To Cheadle, Leorio is everything she should have been. She knows it’s too late to mend her relationship with Gon. But at least she can assure that he has good people in his life.
And that foreshadowing I mentioned?
Tumblr media
People have analyzed the lilies in the background before, theorizing them to symbolize her love for women. I know I’ve gotten my hopes up about them. But we’ve all been ignoring another meaning that the lily carries.
Tumblr media
Motherhood.
I know many of you probably came into this close-minded, but I hope I’ve been able to -
JUST KIDDING SIKE COULD YOU IMAGINE

12. Things you said when you thought I was asleep. and I have one thoughts. Leopika
aaaaaAAAAAA thank you for this ask!! it is definitely too long because of who i am as a person. i will likely cross-post this to ao3 as well. please enjoy!!
There were some immutable facts about the universe.
The inevitability of death and taxes was one. That whatever you were looking for was going to be in the literal last place you thought to search for it was a second. The great quid pro quo of something for something, be it time or money or knowledge, that kept the world going ‘round, was a third.
A fourth was the miserable, depressing, exhausting, blood-sucking, soul-crushing, existence-defining realities of medical school.
It would have been hard enough in the best of circumstances, Leorio figured. Because between classes, labs, practicums, homework, exams, and the endless marathon of studying for more, Leorio had to be a hunter. Had to take on jobs and learn nen and accidentally adopt two hellion teens and participate in stupid things like chairman elections. And then that led to the verifiable hell-in-a-handbasket that was almost being elected chairman for punching one adopted son’s dad on national television.
(It was probably the highlight of Leorio’s short, far-too-exciting life thus far, if he was honest. The way Ging had stared like a fool into the small vortex on the table, like Luke looking down the business end of a lightsaber, the satisfying crunch of his nose under Leorio’s fist, the way the man went flying –
Good times, truly.)
Except then that opened the Pandora’s Box of the aforementioned chairman elections. Which then led to the Zodiacs. The Black Whale expedition to the Dark Continent. The chance of a lifetime, to study and practice under the Dr. Cheadle Yorkshire.
Kurapika was back.
But that was all too much to take in, especially considering Leorio was running on six hours of sleep over the past two days. There was just so much to do – assemble supplies, arrange their resources across the ship, assist in the mindgames relating to the minefield that was Beyond Netero and the Kakin Empire, help create and administer a new Hunter Exam, finish his assignments, take three exams early, pack his bags, find someone to sublet his apartment –
Twenty minutes, Leorio thought as he collapsed down on the couch in the Zodiac’s break room. The place had such luxuries as a fancy coffee maker and a regular pot, a vending machine that served real food, and a couch made of buttery leather and cushions so soft Leorio felt like he was melting into the frame when he lay down. He was too tired to even grab at the throw blanket slung over the back of the couch. It was long enough he could kick up the three miles of stick legs he had going on. He grabbed the sleep mask he’d picked up from the dollar store that had saved his life more than Killua, Gon, Kurapika, and his own nen combined and slapped it over his eyes.
He was out in five breaths.
Some time later, however – Leorio was unsure how long he’d been out – he was awoken by the sound of the door opening and lights flicking on. His mask kept the worst of the burst of light at bay, fortunately. He had half a mind to ask whoever the hell else was up at three o’clock in the morning to kindly fuck off, please, but the familiar scent of mint and the even-more-familiar voice made him freeze.
“I do not care what Miss Neon thinks,” Kurapika was hissing into the phone. “I am telling you that the Black Whale is going to be an overcrowded security nightmare, not a pleasure cruise. I truly do not think we could even procure a ticket for her, and no, Basho, I am not going to try. I have my hands plenty full enough with trying to keep the Association from infiltration by outside influences.” There was a long pause. “Yes, that would be best. Thank you, Basho. I apologize for my tone. I will see you at the next meeting.” Another pause. “Yes, you should sleep. Good-night.”
A faint beep of the call ending. Leorio wondered if he was really awake or if he was just dreaming that he was the closest he had been to Kurapika in over a year. He wondered if he should reveal he was awake.
“Oh,” Kurapika said, and Leorio knew that was the first time Kurapika had even noticed he was there. The single word was surprise and confusion and borderline disappointment all at once. “Leorio?”
Light footsteps, like Kurapika was stepping closer to him. A beat.
“Still sleeping with your mouth open, I see. And you did not even notice me… it’s a wonder you’ve lived this long.”
It took every ounce of Leorio’s not-admirable self-control not to snap his mouth shut or bolt up and say that Kurapika had absolutely no legs to stand on when it came to handling the miracle of life after age eighteen. But then Kurapika huffed out a sound best described as the distant cousin of, or the echo of an echo of, a laugh.
It was exhausted. Heartbreaking. Fond. And the most Kurapika had sounded like himself since the Hunter Exam.
“Fool man.”
More footsteps and shuffling. Leorio heard the sounds of cabinets opening and closing softly as Kurapika did his best not to wake him. There was the sound of rustling plastic, of water running, of the coffee pot being put on to percolate.
More rustling. Leorio could picture Kurapika walking back to his spot eyeing Leorio’s prone body. Maybe he was thinking about putting him out of his misery. Maybe he was folding his arms, a droll smile on his lips Leorio hadn’t seen since Yorknew. Maybe he was leaning against the break room table or sitting on top of it.
“You probably think I hate you,” Kurapika mused. “Some days, I think I do, too.”
Okay, so Leorio was definitely not dreaming. The little prick. Took the chance to say whatever he needed to get off his chest the second he thought Leorio was in a position to not respond. Fine. Whatever. Leorio could play at that. And when Kurapika finished whatever the hell his little monologue was, Leorio would pop up and deck him and yell at him for being a self-isolating, melodramatic jackass.
“Except I don’t,” Kurapika said, and Leorio’s brain came to a screeching halt. “I don’t think I could if I tried. And I know because I did try. And we know how well that turned out.”
The Hunter Exam. The boat. The tower. The island. They tried to hate each other and wound up staunch allies and friends anyway. Leorio had thought that Kurapika had dropped them all for the sake of his revenge, vanishing into the criminal underworld the second he had his Hunter license in hand. Little as the act seemed to coincide with what he’d gleamed of Kurapika’s character. But if he wanted to be a lone wolf about the whole thing, fine. Leorio could pick his battles. Allegedly.
“I tried to reach out once,” Kurapika said. “I knew I needed help, that I wasn’t strong enough to take on the Phantom Troupe alone. But when I did…you know what happened.”
Leorio did know. The disaster that was everything about the Yorknew auction. Neon had her nen stolen. Gon and Killua were kidnapped. Hisoka was there.
All things that were not Kurapika’s fault, that he blamed himself for anyway.
“If anything had happened to Gon or Killua, or to you…” Kurapika trailed off. “It was too risky. I could give everything I had to my quest, but I could not drag you all down with me. I didn’t want any of you hurt, but you were anyway. I needed to be stronger on my own, so I became stronger.”
Leorio tallied that one to the list of ominous, dramatic things Kurapika has said that will be a headache later.
“I thought if I pulled away, you all would let me be. Killua and Gon did. I thought they were off traveling the world on their adventures, blissfully unaware of the husk of myself I was becoming. As I anticipated, their calls and emails tapered off eventually.”
Leorio heard Kurapika swallow. His voice was thicker when he went on. “But yours never did. You call often. Even when I don’t pick up. Even when I read your texts and I don’t answer, you keep reaching out. I wish I knew why. I wish I didn’t. Because I wonder to myself how someone like me could earn the affection and friendship of someone like you.”
Kurapika laughed humorlessly. “In my world, affection is weakness if you haven’t the strength to back it up. I don’t have that strength. I only have the will to stay away, because that’s the best way to protect you all. So I hole myself up with the eyes of my family and tell myself I will deal with the rest when my quest is over. Even if I have nothing planned after that. Even if I plan for nothing after that.”
Leorio picked up on Kurapika’s meaning, and something like an anvil dropped into his stomach. The emotion in Kurapika’s voice was palpable, raw and real in the way that only solitude at 3am and exhaustion and the confessional could inspire.
“And then there was Mizai,” Kurapika said softly. “Walking into my office. Telling me he knew how to find the last of the eyes. And it’s because of you.
“Every time I think I’ve hit a wall, I find you, and you smash through everything. Utterly graceless, utterly foolish, utterly clueless. Utterly perfect in your timing and delivery. I thought I had nothing to look forward to or turn to. And then there you were. How presumptive of me to think you might still be there for me, after all is said and done.”
The coffee maker beeped, announcing its job was complete. The room smelled of rich, expensive dark roast, the kind Leorio would have killed for back at school. Kurapika shuffled, like he was rising to his feet again.
“I wish things had been different,” Kurapika whispered. “I wish I had met you a less broken man. I wish my eyes changing when you call was a simple fact of my life and not a catastrophe. I wish our paths crossing was something more than a brief intersection of our lives, me on my downward swing and you on a forever upward trajectory.
“Anything you do, Leorio, you are amazing. You will be amazing. As a chairman or a doctor or both, you will be loved and respected. I know you can’t hear me, but just know…” Kurapika swallowed.
Kurapika shuffled, stepping towards Leorio’s slack-limbed form on the couch. Leorio sensed him reaching for something, and a moment later, the downy softness of the throw blanket was settled over his torso with the tenderness of a lover.
Kurapika’s fingers, light and cold, brushed at Leorio’s hairline. “Whatever you do, wherever you go, you will shine. I want you to know that you deserve it. I want you to know I’ll be watching from the shadows, immeasurably, unspeakably proud.”
With that he retreated, leaving that cloud of subtle mint behind. Leorio heard him sniffle softly as he poured himself a cup of coffee and prepared it however he liked. A splash of creamer and a single sugar packet, if Leorio’s memory was accurate.
The door shut quietly behind him. Leorio waited a few breaths to be sure he was alone, and then he tugged off his eye mask. He stared sightlessly up at the dark ceiling, his eyes, face, and neck damp.

I think so too. Pariston doesn’t like boring people. Ging doesn’t rise to his baits and Cheadle, while smart, is somewhat too “righty” and predictable for his tastes (at least that is the impression I got). Someone who is quick minded and keep him on his toes is more interesting. Someone who knows who he is and plays a passive role? It may start as a fun, sadistic game for him and become something more without a doubt. Especially if Pariston notes a razor-sharp mind underneath this attitude.
How Pariston would act in such situations depends on so many varieties we can’t be completely sure of how things would go… Yes, Hisoka may follow someone in an annoying way (showing a more serious side such as when seducing, particularly if he reaaally wants to be with this person), but Pariston… It becomes complicated. One of the differences at play is how Hisoka may actually care, while Pariston will always see the person as a toy. He may delude himself into believing this is love, but c’mon, the guy is probably one of the most twisted (if not the most) of the whole HxH cast and this is saying something considering the characters we’ve seen…
I guess I wouldn’t use the term “pursuing” for him either, but “stalking” (at least regarding the manner of gathering information so he can better plan his strategy) seems a better fit. As his interest develops and the person remains resisting, his methods may become more serious.
Oh, he would still play mind/emotional games, but I think he would be more aggressive in finding out info (talking with friends, reading whatever he can find, literally investigating the person, etc) and in how he may act towards them. One thing I can say: It wouldn’t be at all good. It wouldn’t be “gothic/dark romance”, it would be terrifying even if the person knows more or less where they stand with Pariston and how to deal with him (or as best as someone can know).
How Pariston deals with the person depends on their personality and reactions and his own feelings, but if they resist him for long (or his interest becomes obsession), I agree that he would use more “extreme” measures.
On a hand, I think even a semi-kidnapping (such as somehow getting them injured and convincing the association to let him take care of them) might not be as definitive as he would prefer and also eventually rise questions regardless of his position. There are people aware of his nature who could become suspicious while not giving a damn for his power. It’s not that he cares, but he would prefer to avoid interferences to the game.
Blackmail seems more his style and more “fun” in his view, as the person may be presented the chance to leave or call for help, but can’t risk it if it would threat the lives of their loved ones. Also… To be honest, this might allow Pariston to make more demands about how the person acts (either with him or in public). It would prolong the game and he would be able to get the person to go live with him and keep her/him close all the times.

what you think of leorio character many people said he annoying but in the manga he was show to be great ally who was strong, reliable and caring individual compare to the remake they made his character less likeable
thebae!!
Jfc Ilove him. I love him a lot, he’s such a great character. But ye, 2011 did himdirty. I personally loved him when i watched the 2011 anime, but when I readthe manga I realized how much the anime seriously shitted on him. He’s evenmore likeable in the Manga and he deserved far better.
Igenerally need more precise question to start rambling, but i’ll try from thispoint. But this will be a little more confusing that general (and i got tired toward the end so i stopped) but here.
And i’ll put it under cut because it’s Leorio and i’ll ramble.
Thething is that, Leorio has a position in the manga that is mostly the one of thecaretaker - a trope that is much more often attributed to women in Shounen. He’s the doctor guy, he’s the one who doesn’t show off his powers all thatmuch, who’s a little late in comparison to the others, who usually have a brutestrength with his medical knowledge. But he’s also often therefore the one toemotionally react to the plot and what happens around him.
And people hates thiskind of archetype. People call this kind of character useless when they areextremely important and inspirational.
Leoriois the everyman. Out of the four main characters, he’s the one the audience canrelate to. How many jokes are there out there of Leorio attempting a deadlyexam with just a knife just to pay his school bills? An icon.
Butlike…. That’s why it’s important?
Thereforehe’s the one who’s actions are the most grounded in reality, in real life’shardship. The other main three stories are really specific to its genre, butLeorio’s? Anyone could have Leorio’s backstory.
Whathe makes out of it is inspirational and gives a lot of heart to his actionstoward his friends. He is a support, he is helping. He’s doing everything hecan by his own means.
Andwhen he’s trying to catch up with the other ones who are ways too unreal? Hegives his everything, he faces the problem right in the eyes and refuse to runaway.
Morethan being useless, the worst thing I think i’ve ever read about Leorio isthat “he’s a coward”. In which fucking universe?
Leoriois always ready to fight. He was ready to attack that old lady for askingsomething as absurd and careless as saying you would have to give up on yourdaughter or your son. He’s admirable because he fights for what is right, forwhat is supposed to be. If Gon won just because he didn’t know what to answer, and that Kurapika found the answer, Leorio won because he would refuse it toeven happen in a possible scenario. And even if it’s a grandma, we’re talkingabout an examinator of the Hunter Exam. It could have ruined Leorio’s life, butthere was no way he could let it fly.
Whenthey met the Kiriko, he stayed behind to help one of them in the house, andreassured him. Where is that a coward to you? He acted like a doctor, he tookcare of him more quickly than anyone, and especially he showed care, and didn’tonce think his friends couldn’t handle it. He has an undying loyauty to thepeople he likes.
He fucking went back to fight Hisokaafter Hisoka murdered a lot of people. Because he couldn’t run while saidinjustice was happening right in front of his eyes. He could have died, but hedidn’t want to just run away for his own safety. Reckless? Yes. Coward?no.
Notto mention on Zevil’s Island, how he wanted to get against Ponzu alone, becausehe didn’t want to hurt anyone else, and he actually asked the other ones to leavehim if any problem came to happen. Because Leorio values others better thanhimself.
Meanwhilepeople forget that the only reason he went to York New was to see his friendsagain. Kurapika was there for the Troupe, Killua and Gon for the game, Leorio? Onlyfor them. And especially, he went unaware Killua and Gon were looking for a game, but aware that if they reunite, they will be running after Serial Killers. He knewthat. And he helped them as much as he could in that situation,t o the point ofhunting down the Troupe while actually Nenless, and fucking challenging themwhen he plays bait in order to save Gon and Killua. He also manages to calmdown Kurapika when Kurapika almost snaps at Chrollo.
Leorio’scourage and bravery had been the heart of his character. He has an undyingloyauty for his friends, and is fighting for what he thinks is right. How isthat a bad thing? How is that a coward?
When it comes about himbeing “useful/useless” first, I completely hate this term in general.People aren’t things to use. Their worth isn’t found in whenever or not they make themselves useful. Their worth is in their actions and what they decide to do.
Leorioalways decided to do the right thing.
Themost important point of Leorio’s storyline is that, at his heart, it’s a storyof a past-trauma which recovery had been healthy. When you compare to the otherthree who all live very badly their current and past trauma, Leorio is the onewho got traumatized and got something good out of it. He forced himself in apath in which he could help other people again. He recovered as much as hecould, and he dedicated himself to others. He’s doing what is right, what isjust.
Ina story that has such heavy stories of Trauma, someone like him is important inthe group. He’s a representation of how things can get better, how things willget better. He encourages them in a good direction when he can. He’s a caringand wonderful character.
Butfans, they don’t care about it. They want to see blood, they want to seesomeone be punched. It’s no surprise a lot of people saying they dislike Leoriosay the only thing they like him for is for punching Ging. It’s because thosepeople don’t value anything else than Leorio’s strength and ability to kickass. Which to me is fucked up because it’s not the most important part ofLeorio’s character.
It’sno wonder the most focus we had on Leorio is the Election arc – an arcultimately based on more profound actions to help on the long term.  Leorio’s spotlights is on his words, on howhe wants to help the people he loves, and how he feels like he doesn’t belongthere.
Leoriodidn’t get to first place just because it was funny he punched Ging. In a worldof secrecy and selfishness like the one of the hunters, Leorio distinguishedhimself by not only not caring about showing his powers, but by also beingextremely opened about what he wants. What he calls being selfish, which isjust to take as much care as possible for his friends. It’s because of thatthat the Hunter World ends up believing and cheering for him. Because he’s notjust brawn and no brain – he’s a man who’s driven by his heart, and will alwaysdo the right thing when he has to do it. Someone who will fight for it, even ifhe has to antagonize himself (or so he wishes), in order to help others.
It’swhy everyone ended up cheering for him, that’s why having him in the Zodiac wasa clever political move from Cheadle. Because Leorio is actively being arepresentative of how much you can care about someone.
Onlyjudging him on his strength and his powers is doing a major disservice to hischaracter who is much, much more than that.
Somethingalso a few people seems to forget: at the end of the Heaven Arena Arc, Wingtells Killua and Gon that Leorio won’t be approached by a potential Nen teacheruntil he passed his med school exam, which he passed after the York New arcwhen he left. However, when Killua and Gon meet with Leorio again, Leorio tellsthem he mastered Ten. And he actually thinks he mastered all Nen, which makesme think no one actually told him about his training. Meaning he did that alone.
Inthe year between the York New Arc and the Election Arc, Leorio passed hisexams, and learned Nen, in a very complex way. Remember how in the Greed IslandArc, there was a guy who could also use an Emitter technique on his punch topunch someone?  Except that to do that,he had to be in a limited space that he would have determined with his Nen,otherwise he wouldn’t be able to actually project his punch.
Leoriocan do that whenever he wants. Wherever he wants. Ging explains that histechnique is actually really complex and based on the vibration of the groundand of human being. It takes a lot of science understanding to come to thatwithout setting conditions. Not to mention, his technique was originallysettled in order to find out tumors into people’s body and heal them withouthaving to open the body, therefore reducing the cost of an operation.
Howis that not Badass?? Leorio took a concept we saw in the show assomething limited, that couldn’t be done freely, and showed that he couldand he would and he would do that to punish mean people and save people.  How is that not amazing?
Thebest in all of that, is that Leorio had always been strong. Stronger thanKurapika and Gon in fact. And there it comes into what the anime deleted andsadly people aren’t aware of. But Leorio is stronger than Gon and Kurapika – interm of strength, he can lift 4 tons, he’s muscular af. He could break the armof a mafia guy during the arm wrestling contests. Leorio is extremely strong, which is already incredible.
He’sjust in an universe where people use other way to be strong. A way he ended upcatching up on.
Andit’s not to mention that he’s extremely streetwise. The guy knows a lot aboutthe underground, about how to get what he wants. The guy is completely rulingthe auctions, and Killua even look up to him for that. Leorio is very good atgetting what he wants, and he always find clever ways to achieve it.
Theanime deleted all of that though. And that’s really pissing me off. Leorioactively works in order to help the kids to get the money to Greed Island – he’sthe one who establish them with a link to the mafia, he’s the one who iswatching over the auction, he’s the one who gets the information to find theTroupe. When Kurapika loses it, he’s the one to fix the situation, he’s the onewho plays bait with the Troupe, he’s the one who stop Kurapika from beingreckless, he’s the one who helps Kurapika feel better after he collapsed fordays. Remove Leorio from the York New arc and everything would have gone wrong.
Itjust baffles me that people can’t accept just genuinely kind and caringcharacters if they don’t kickass the way they want them to do it. Not everycharacters need to be a war-machine. And honestly, in a story that put so muchefforts into showing that the violence in which Gon, Kurapika and Killua engagethemselves into, is actually extremely hurtful and has consequences, I don’tsee how one can be mad at Leorio for not being like that either?
Leoriois an extremely interesting character. He holds a lot of himself inside, hefears sometimes of not being enough, but he tries. He always tries andhe always try to manage as much as possible.
Ijust don’t get what is there not to like? He can be harsh at first, but like. He’s still a teen? He evolved a lot in between the first hunter exam and theelection arc – he became more mature, more grounded. He’s achieving his goal, which is hella neat?
He’slikeable and fun. He learns a lot during the course of the manga.
I’mgetting a little tired and I’m going to repeat myself if I keep going, but I exploredmore of my thoughts there, there, there and there.
Iramble a lot about him in general and I just really love him and wish peoplewould see that you don’t have to actively kickass to be a good character.
…..expecially when you’re already as kickass as Leorio Paradinight.
 Take care nonny!

Since I finished rereading the Chairman Election Arc, I finally got around to writing some of my thoughts on Cheadle's character, and her conflict with Pariston. This is by no means comprehensive or covers all details. I wanted it to be longer but I’m sick and lazy so it's just a collection of random observations strung together, and contains a lot of guessing and gap filling on my part.
It did get a bit long, though.
Women in fiction are rarely allowed to be ambitious. Duty is almost always thrusted upon them because there's no one else to take up the mantle, and not because these women want to be in power. This isn't the case for Cheadle. Despite her latent ambitions, the narrative never presents her to us as a cold-hearted bitch unworthy of sympathy. In fact, between her, Pariston, and Ging, she's the one portrayed most sympathetically. She's intelligent but short sighted, she's serious and stoic, but never emotionless or apathetic or indifferent, (and I would argue that her losses are the result of a world completely devoid of any self-sustaining logic, not because she’s not smart or good enough). What makes it better is that she is not the Woobie. She's not a poor little thing caught up in a mess, she's a complicit, active participant in the mess. We root for her not because she's better than Pariston, but because she's less awful. Much less awful, and that doesn't erase the fact that she is the upholder of the statuesque here, while Pariston is the rebellious reformist. It's complex, and I love it.
There are some hints throughout alluding to some kind of ugly history between Pariston and Cheadle, but I think a large part of their antagonism boils down to Cheadle being unable to comprehend how someone like Pariston got to be where he is, and how illogical and self-centered his thought process is. His entire being is against what she stands for. She calls him an "unrestrained beast", and wonders how he's become vice chairman.
Cheadle is very straightforward in her thinking, and moves from logical A to logical B, and Pariston's morbid, self-serving logic contradicts hers, and contradicts her understanding of how the world works, and how people act. Pariston is beyond common sense, beyond her common sense; he does things for the fun of it, is shady as hell, seemingly amoral and remorseless, and cares more about the means than the ends, enjoying the obstacles in his way that would freak out any sensible person (going as far as to suggest them himself), and yet he has everything, and Cheadle envies him, she resents him for his position, which she believes he doesn't deserve. What's more, he sees through her while she can't for the life of her figure him out, and this constantly puts her on the defense in nearly every interaction between them. To her, he's an enigma, to him, she's an open book, and this scares her, especially that Cheadle is revealed through her conversation with Ging to be hiding her true self behind her codename's persona (and that’s a subject for a whole other talk).
The thing is, Pariston uses Cheadle's own loyalty to the Association against her. It's subtle, but during the first Zodiacs meeting, Cheadle didn't seem all that interested in nominating herself for chairman, it's only when Pariston announces his candidacy that Cheadle takes it upon herself to stop him. Slowly, her own ambitions and hang-ups start creeping forward. She wants to be chairman, but stopping Pariston from becoming chairman is more important to her, because she values the fate of the Association more than her own desires. When it seems to her Leorio is two steps away from the position, she immediately announces her willingness to resign from the Zodiacs and support him, even though he barely knows anything and is clearly unqualified for the job, all the while feeling bitter and resentful that she dropped out of the game.
Cheadle didn't mean to win the election at first, and Ging points that out bluntly to her. He knows that, because he knows that if Cheadle truly wanted to win, she has enough intelligence and motivation to have secured victory from the first couple of days. Basically, Cheadle's own loyalty to the Association condemned her, and was used against her throughout. Pariston again uses it against her in a threat after he resigns. He's challenging her, too.
What I love most, however, is something never stated outright, and I am reading too much into it here, but one of the things that hold Cheadle back is knowledge that she isn't the person Netero wanted in the job at all. She wants to be chairman despite Netero's implicit wishes, and while she respects him, she struggles to accept his logic. Even more than that, she's most angry when Ging states that Pariston is the only one of the candidates carrying Netero's legacy, and her anger stems precisely from the fact that she already knows this. I believe a part of her also resents Netero, and wonders why, despite all her qualifications and loyalty, he never seemed to consider her for the position of his vice-chairman, and out of all people chose Pariston for the lolz, basically.
TL;DR the men around Cheadle are awful.

I'm really worried about Leorio in this arc. Like he hasn't seen half the shit Kurapika's been through and not even a quarter of half the shit Killua and Gon have been through. And this arc seems like/was stated to be even worse than the chimera ant arc? He's gonna get thrust in the middle of all of it! Thought it might also be his time to shine. Kurapika's def gonna get hurt and while he can heal himself normally he won't be able to if he's passed out/weakened from emperor time.
Yeee definitly agreed. Some shits are going to go down and that’s going to be hard.
I love Kurapika with all my heart but tbh I really wanted this arc to be more Leorio centric. I’m still a bit frustrated we didn’t get much of him, but I think the arc can set up a few things for him now if the storyline takes it.
and if it does? Leorio is going to suffer.
The thing is that, I think the main four are complementary in a sort of way when it comes to their respective trauma. Gon’s was dormant and truly kicked in in the CA arc when everything happened to Kite. He actively tried to confront that trauma and it ended badly. Killua’s was always kinda there and is still there, without exactly being addressed directly by Killua - he’s slowly recovering without exactly realizing it since it’s just by being away from a toxic environment that he’s doing better.Kurapika's trauma is still vivid and active and he’s completely aware of it, and he deals with it with the most unhealthy ways possible, and like Gon he tries to confront him.
If we go by that logic, Leorio’s trauma happened officially pre-canon with the death of his friend, and he had tried to recover as much as possible in the most healthy ways (how he’s becoming a doctor to prevent this loss to happen again).
Out of the Four, it’s true Leorio is the one who suffered the least, and he’s the one who moved on from the trauma that kickstarted his plotline - as much as we can say, he recovered.
Which is in itself a good theme when it comes down to it, but since it’s not exactly exploited by the narrative, it’s not exactly obvious and I doubt it was meant to be a point in itself but more a set up.
If it is a set up, we saw already a bit of payoff thus far. The multiple times he worred about Kurapika before the end of the York New Arc and grew concerned was one part, and his direct reaction to almost losing Gon was extremely frightening for him. It’s eventually what led him to ask the Zodiacs if they could find a way to get to Kurapika.
I think that, at this point of the story, Leorio is more worried for his friends than ever. In the begining of the story he mostly focuses on his goal, becoming a doctor in order to be able to prevent the harm that could happen to people, but he ended up feeling extremely guilty in the Election arc where, after all this studying, he still wasn’t there when his friends were suffering, and he couldn’t have done anything to prevent it - and now again he was powerless.
Even when Gon wakes up Leorio still feels guilty for not having been there when all those troubles with Killua and Gon happened - he mentions it especially when Gon mentions the “horrible things” he said to Killua, which means more than saving his life, Leorio wanted to have been here to prevent all those bad things to happen, to even talk with them if possible.
Which is imo why he tried to reach out for Kurapika a bit more and ended up asking the Zodiac for a favor - because he wasn’t there previously and his friends ended up near death. And it’s all good to be able to help people, but if you’re not there when it happens, what’s the point?
I’m still a little unsure about that because as much as i love Leorio caring for his friends, I would have loved a more “Leorio-centric” narrative, but as the story is going on, I wonder if the catalyst won’t be even more harm happening to his closed ones and eventually re-traumatizing him, and having him try to do something about it.
That’s why I’ve kinda been thinking that Kurapika may not die but will be badly harmed by the end of the arc and it may bring oil on the fire for Leorio. But at the same time i’m still a bit doubtful, because a repetitive narrative can be either extremely clever as parallelism, or downright stupid because it’s basically the same thing. But it’s been in the back of my mind for a while, since it would find a place among Leorio’s themes in general.
Personally, I would wish to see him more involved with the Zodiacs and uses his political position as a means to an end. I would love to see more of his training too, but I don’t have any precise idea of where it could go from that point on in order to explore that.
All i still wish for though, is that - Leorio is supposed to be busy on the lower levels of the ship. Kurapika is dealing with the princes now, but Leorio is down there, far from the political fighting.
Mizai had said that riots started happening on the lower levels, and I want to know if it’s going to bring somewhere, especially with Leorio who’s after all, working in that aera. It would be an opportunity to open up a plot line for him.
If we can’t have a totally centric Leorio arc like I wish, there’s still the fact the Troupe and Hisoka are also on those lower levels. At best, Leorio could get involved because he knows them and can try to come up with ways to limitate the damages (also it could also finally explore why Hisoka took an interest on him in the Hunter Exam by having those two at least having a conversation.). At worst, if it’s not entierely Leorio-centric, he could be worried that learning the Troupe is on board would be of harm for Kurapika and try to deal with it for it.
Regardless, I still believe the arc will be divided in, well, 3 for now. First part was the introduction we saw so far, until the departure of the boat, second would be the Succession War and everything happening on the Boat to the Dark Continent. Lastly, the Exploration of the Dark Continent itself.
I think it may be why the likes of Ging and Pariston hadn’t been seen again since the Succession War sub-arc started. The introduction would have set the players for the following arcs, and the Dark Continent exploration would be a complete different story.
Kurapika’s entiere purpose for participating in that arc is the Succession War (which again is one of the reason I think he’ll be out of commission by the end of this pat). Leorio, however, promised to help alongside Cheadle with every means he could, and I believe it might be that he’ll therefore be a more major player in the Exploration of the Dark Continent itself.
Whenever it would be to further his own storyline, which i really hope for, or to help wounded friends (after all, one of the wonders of the Dark Continent includes a rice that makes you life longer, that would come handy), i think Leorio would have more of a plotline in the Dark Continent Itself.
(especially even more if the Dark Continent would head up into a commentary about collonialism the way the CA arc had a commentary about war, and that I think (really take it with a grain of salt bc it’s something i’ve been thinking to myself for a while) that therefore Nanika’s powers could have been a forshadow of the commentary itself - for your selfish gain you will only get suffering, a suffering the next people involved, regardless of their own intend, will pay even harder, but if you’re there because you want to help, if you work it out of love, either toward the land/the person or toward the people you’re trying to help, you may find a welcome. I think it was stated that the guardian of the DC wouldn’t let a lot of people in, and we saw the scientific team talking about the DC only see horrors from the people who came back - yet apparently Don Freecss, who embrassed and loved the new land, could benefits from its goodness.)(and i’m completely overanalysing so don’t take that part any seriously until we get any confirmation, because for now we don’t know anything.)
Also the Zodiac are planning on letting all the people on the Boat (aside from those who are actively working on the exploration of the dark continent) into an Unknown Continent, I suppose eventually a few stuff could happen there, at least as it would come to organize the people who will be brought there.
I’m really scared for what’s to come though because ye, it seems to be going in a dark path, and things are going to get tense. And I worry too that Leorio’s “lack of drama” (for lack of better word) will eventually backlash on him getting even worse on his head.
The problem is that so far the most I can think about is him reacting to his friends and... While on one way I consider it to be in character, and it’s not a shame for character to be dedicated to their friends (a lot of Killua’s storyline centers a lot more around helping Gon that it does on his own goal, textually so. And Leorio’s goal is, as a mean to an end, a way to help people, among those, his friends.).
On the other, I would love a storyline that would explore much more about Leorio, first because I really want to see him evolve and see him going through stuff, and second because I don’t want to hear anything about how he’s not interesting or useless or any Bad Word Of The Month people use on him. And the sad truth is that people who’s goal are usually really “caring” centric are often sidelined, both by the narrative and the fandom, more than once.
So in recap, i do think he’ll get involved in the plotline and he will end up getting in danger in one way or another. But I also believe he will be more involved either with the Zodiac or with the Exploration, and maybe with the Riots on the boat, which could be an excellent opportunity to explore much, much more of him. Even if you have to use other people’s suffering to come there, i just wish at least it wouldn’t break him.
I’m still hopeful for Leorio’s involvement and story arc, but ye, there’s no way it will happen without suffering. Brace for it.
All of that being said, there’s still a lot this arc has to offer and Togashi had always managed to surprise us in one way or another, and he always added stuff to the scenario that we couldn’t exactly anticipate. Notice that all I say is my overanalysis of current information that might be completely wrong after a next update because of new elements. I totally believe Togashi can be completely misleading, and that he will bring the story where it has to be brought and that it will be interesting.  But we can’t predict it, even with all the amount of overinterpretation one can use.
Take care!!

Looking for an opinion: I've always hc'd cheadle as a trans woman (mostly because I'm trans myself but I have some vague canon justifications) and since you're a fellow Big Cheadle Fan I want to hear how you think that would look from a story perspective or a leodle perspective or anything else you can think of? All I can think of is her reacting to the trick tower b.s. (wrt leodle) but I feel like there's more possibilities. What do you think?
First off, thanks for sending me this, I adore this headcanon! And you considering me a fellow Big Cheadle Fan… *wipes tears*.
Also, vague canon justifications are my favorite thing, so if you want, please feel free to elaborate on that in another ask or message, I’d love to know them.
So, I feel it’s important to preface this by telling you that I’m not trans myself, and that you as a trans person definitely have better ideas than mine when it comes to this subject, so your input is more valuable than mine here. That said, I did think of some things! I put it under a cut because it became a tiny bit long and I hate dash clogging.
I headcanon that she comes from a very conservative family with strong emphasis on male inheritors, so it would be even more difficult for her to remain with them or find acceptance as a trans girl, especially in a society that adheres to rigid gender roles and man-centered hierarchies. She would have a lot of pressure placed on her, and she finds that taking the Hunter Exam and running away is her best choice, because with her family she constantly feels like a disappointment and a burden her parents have to hide from their social circles. She tries to compensate through academic excellence, obedience, principled behavior, and by concealing all those little bits of herself that keep escaping, but there comes a point where she realizes it’s impossible to please her parents unless she ate at herself, which she refuses to do.
So from here, I can totally see Cheadle’s already furious loyalty to the job and to the Association strengthened by the acceptance she finds there, and while individual Hunters can definitely be bigoted and transphobic, those people have seen so many wondrous things in their lifetimes, they are in possession of superior technology and resources, so I imagine many of them are prone to see beyond strict social constructs like gender, and have a larger capacity than civilians to accept and embrace non-conformity in all its forms, so I feel like all this could add to Cheadle’s comfort within her work space and with her colleagues. I also don’t see her being particularly interested or enthusiastic about discussing her experience with others, but that mostly has to do with how she’s a private person who’s work-oriented, and generally speaking, I think only few people would know that she’s trans, either because she’s told them or because they figured it out on their own (I can see Mizaistom and Ging being two of those people, maybe even Pariston, and later Leorio).
I would also like to think that the first person who made Cheadle more comfortable and confident in her trans identity is none other than Ging himself. He’s not the kind to dance around the bush, he’s direct and honest, and he figures it out before she tells him. He tells her that many Hunters wouldn’t give two shits about that, and she needs to stop worrying (in his own Ging way, which hurts a little). He’d also guard this knowledge and keep it a secret until she feels comfortable coming out to few others. I’m not super enthusiastic about Ging as a character in general, but I do feel like this is something he would do and is willing to do; he respects Cheadle as a fellow Hunter and a colleague, and he sees beyond appearances and doesn’t care about past lives (like Gon) so yeah, that could also be one of the reasons Cheadle is particularly trusting of him, and canonically speaking, she does value his opinion, because maybe at one point, his opinion brought her the comfort and assurance she needed.
Now, Cheadle is not only a Hunter, but she’s also a doctor and a lawyer, which means she’s most definitely a rich woman, so the high costs of transitioning (hormones or surgery) would not be issues for her. However, whether she has other issues about transitioning is a matter I believe others are more qualified to discuss. I simply don’t know enough about that, so I’m not qualified to talk about it; I think these gaps are ones you could fill, being informed by your own experience, and I’d love to hear how this would apply to her, if you want to talk about it.
But can you imagine Cheadle dedicating so much of her scientific and medical research to help improve the quality of medicine and treatment needed by trans people? And funding hospitals that offer reassignment surgeries? And trying to make help and services cheap and widely available/accessible to poor trans folks? And maybe she even finds her path as a Virus Hunter through this.
So now to leodle. I wholeheartedly believe that Cheadle being trans wouldn’t make any difference in Leorio’s love, affection, and admiration for her, and I’m not saying this just because I love Leorio and want him to be a decent person, (any Leorio fan worth their salt would not ignore that transphobic/sexist bet in the tower, but I will still argue that’s it’s a problem with Togashi’s writing than with Leorio’s character) but because he’s compassionate and always willing to learn and better himself, especially in regards to those he loves.
Would Cheadle see that shit in Trick Tower and groan and be disappointed? Definitely. Will she drag his ass for it? Absolutely. It would feel personal for her, and when Leorio is sulking in guilt, she would demand he stop feeling guilty (she doesn’t see productivity in guilt) and start educating himself instead. He does, and I feel like this would help draw them closer (that’s when he knows she’s trans). She would also ask that he not begin tiptoeing around her or treat her differently, and Leorio’s like aye Ma'am!
(Note that I’m applying your Trans Cheadle headcanon to my personal timeline for them _which is by no means consistent or makes sense_ so at this point where she sees the video from Trick Tower Cheadle is Leorio’s mentor and they haven’t developed feelings for each other yet, so basically he would know she’s trans way before he fell in love with her).
Sometimes when they talk about their lives, she shares some bits from her past with him, and Leorio would see her as 10x more baddass than previously (which was already a lot to begin with), and aaaaah I don’t know buddy I’m already thinking of scenarios I die for leodle tenderness and mutual love and respect so to summarize it: I don’t believe it would change the core of their relationship one bit, even excluding the romantic aspect, it would be awkward for Leorio at first because he fears saying stupid or ignorant things, and Cheadle’s answer is always “learn more about the subject” (she refuses to personally educate him about trans issues _it’s not her job_ she’d rather use the time to teach him cool nen tricks).
I hope this answer was good? I feel like it’s just mixing headcanons, and I would really love to add to it whenever I have more ideas, but for now I really hope this was satisfying or the least bit inspiring. If I said something uninformed or ignorant, or used incorrect terminology, please correct me. If any of my followers is trans and likes to add some insight or a headcanon, please do!
