i updated and rearranged my lolita physical media collection as i was recently able to complete two sets: my english "gothic & lolita bibles" at the top (still a long way to go for the japanese volumes you see sandwiched in between) and my "gothic lolita & punk brand books" at the bottom! for brand catalogs that are a bit too flimsy without a solid spine, loose pages, flyers, prints, postcards and such; i added in a file folder to give them a little extra protection.
it looks a little strange stacked vertically, but this temporary setup until i move was the solution i found after some trial and error. the classic horizontal "bookcase" presentation of the magazines was far too much weight and pressure for my unstable shelves and caused an extremely loud and heavy avalanche. thankfully i survived with just a bruise, but more importantly.. none of my books were too hurt! reorganizing them all over again from the beginning after the fact was a bit tedious, though.

i'm especially looking forward to reading the three acquisitions pictured above given that finding english lolita media has proven quite difficult.

Hi! Could I get a creepypasta match up please!
I am 5 foot...not very blessed in the height department unfortunately, I'm slim but well endowed in both upper and lower departments. I'm fairly light for being Hispanic (i don't go outside in the sun often) I have shoulder length hair, its currently red and has been red for a hot minute, but in the past it used to be shorter and a different color every other week. Like for two weeks I could have purple hair then BOOM it's yellow now. I have 21 piercings. I have two in the center of my eyebrows, two nostril piercings. One on each side, a septum. And snake bites. I used to have My bridge pierced but I took it out bc it was in the process of migrating:/m I have 26 tattoos. IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT. But it's not..THAT many when you actually get a good look at my full body. Most of them are on my thighs, I have some on my back, I have chest tattoos and a wrist tattoo. All my tattoos are either witchy, satanic, or of pretty pin up women and fruit.
Personality wise. I'm not sure, I have adhd, autism and bpd. I can be loud and excitable but also REALLY quite, aloof and awkward. I am a very passionate person and I'm always doing something (or at least trying to) I love to learn new things, I love to talk, I love to listen but I also love to just sit in absolute silence sometimes. I hate the sound of people sneezing, idk why it just REALLY upsets me. I can be really nice and helpful but I don't like being taken advantage of. I don't like confrontation but I will stand up for myself and or my friends if it's truly necessary. I am very giving, if someone I care about was in need I wouldn't mind giving them the shirt off my back or the shoes I'm wearing...it's happened before too. I also love shopping. I may have a slight....shopping addiction. I also have a very strong sense of justice and respect, so you won't catch me doing anyone dirty, but I won't let anyone do me dirty and ill cut them off if they keep crossing the line. I'm very good at sniffing out snakes. And I try to warn people around me about fake people and they never believe me until shit hits the fan, and then they sit there like ":0 I didn't know" TF YOU MEAN YOU DIDNT KNOW I TOLD YOU!?
I have daddy issues and don't have a stable father figure in my life 🧍🏻‍♂️ I love my mom though, shes cool
Style wise. I'm a bit all over the place, I've been in the alternate community since I was born. My dad was a metal head soo it kind of passed. But not really. Mental only stuck for so long. I tried scene, not my personal style but I loved the music. I was in the emo scene for a good couple of years until i started to hang out with the punk kids in my highscool, they were a little to much for me, activity wise though so it didn't last to long. But I found my home in the goth subculture and then from that point on, I explored the subcultures within that subculture. I tried nu goth, pastel goth, gothic lolita, trad goth. And none of them felt right, until I found gothabilly. And I find myself most comfortable in thag vintage style and the pin up style. My favorite brand (just so you can get an idea) is vixen by micheline pitt. My closet is just PURE black. With hints of black and white stripes and red.
I have many hobbies. I used to do tattoos on myself and my friends. I tried to get into piercing....it was a little too scary for me. I know how to make jewelry, I know how to paint, and draw. I know how to write, I love reading. I get too far down weird and obscure rabbit holes. I'm learning how to sew and I love it. I have a huge passion for fashion. And I want to start My brand one day. Even if it's small and for a niche group. I love to game, I love horror games especially, Outast is one of my favorite game series. I love horror period. Horror stories, movies, books. I love collecting specimens, like pinned bugs or mice in Jars. I have a small jar of bones. I love the dead. My favorite horror movie is either Saw or Scream. I also love watching indie disturbing horror movies as well. I'm a practicing witch, and I often use pendulums to communicate with. There was an old ghost of a woman who used to live in my apartment. She was cool sometimes but she messed with the doors and lights to much. I also used to collect dolls, specifically monster high dolls, but I wanted to branch out to haunted dolls...but then I thought mayybe that wouldn't be a good idea. I also love to cook and bake, and i love trying new food. I am also learning how to roller skate.
I don't like spiders though, which is ironic because I love spider web design and embroidery on my clothing. They just...look...ugly in. And their faces freak me out. I can't stand bad smells. I have a very very strong sense of taste and smell so I can be pretty sensitive around food and with bad odors. I don't like being woken up when I'm sleeping and I don't like being around loud obnoxious people.
Just for reference, I am afab nonbinary but present feminine to androgynous. I like both dudes and women and other NB people. My favorite creepypastas used to be Eyeless Jack, Bloody Painter, Jason the Toy Maker, the doll maker and the Puppeteer. I mean I liked ALL the pastas but they were my particular favorites
this feels so short in comparison to all that you sent me and i'm deeply sorry for that.
your matchup is... clockwork!
natalie is a very simple person, believe it or not. she's fairly blunt and isn't the type to bullshit a person so you don't have to worry about her taking advantage of you and your kindness. she's also really good at spotting snakes, so honestly you two could be a snake-sniffing duo and point out all the people you should avoid and whatnot.
she's an incredibly honest person as well and the type to never beat around the bush so if she wants to say something, she will say it.
she's a fairly emotionally reserved person so she doesn't wear her heart on her sleeve but when it's just the two of you, she lets her walls down a bit and she allows herself to relax a little.
she's more of a listener than a talker so she'll sit there and listen to you talk for hours. she doesn't mind sitting in silence either, because with you it's rather comfortable. but on the very rare occasion that she's the one doing all the talking, she'll definitely appreciate the fact that you're listening. it makes her feel seen in ways she could never describe.
natalie thinks you look good with any hair color, to be honest. i think in the beginning she was definitely a bit caught off guard by your spontaneous hair color changes but she gets used to it rather easily because it's just another part of you that she's fond of. she is just a bit concerned about your hair potentially getting damaged if you dye it too often but... she's not a hair expert, so. and honestly, she's thought about dying her hair as well, so. maybe you can recommend a color for her!
she also thinks you look wicked cool with your piercings and tattoos by the way. and she would absolutely love to hear about the meanings of your tattoos if any of them have one that you're willing to share with her.
she may not look like it, but natalie is pretty interested in fashion! she doesn't dabble in many styles herself because of various reasons but she is very interested in all of your own styles ranging from any goth and punk clothing you may own to the vintage and pin-up style you currently have going on.
if you asked natalie what her hobbies were she would probably just shrug and say, 'don't have any.' but trust me when i tell you that she does. she is so very much interested in deep diving into obscure topics and going down rabbit holes that she probably shouldn't go down because she loves learning about all the weird things buried underneath, hidden away from the average person.
honestly, you guys could probably make a date night out of deep diving into two separate topics and telling each other about it as you go. seems like it would be a pretty fun thing to do.
natalie doesn't particularly pay much attention to video games but she isn't against playing one or two if you recommend it to her! she's pretty invested in the things that you like, so she'll definitely play anything you recommend.
as for horror movies, natalie also probably doesn't give them much thought but trust me when i say she is a big fan of the saw franchise. i can see it now, you sitting her down to watch the saw movies and her just getting absolutely hooked and totally developing a crush on amanda young because honestly who doesn't. after the saw franchise, she's definitely more interested in horror than she was before and she'll probably sit down in her own time to watch some other movies just to talk about them to you.
always down to have her hair and nails done by you if you want to do them. she'll pay you as well, don't worry, just like... don't ask where she got the money because that would lead to a really awkward conversation probably. and she's also rooting for you to get into college to study fashion design!
so yeah anyways you guys would be a cute couple together and you'd have two cats and a rabbit named pumpkin or something and yeah.

For the lolita fashion ask: 2, 3, 7, 14, 16
Since there's quite a few to answer here I'm gonna put them under a read more
2. What was your first piece?
My first ever pieces were this awful Gothic Lolita & Punk JSK and head bow, blouse with weird wristcuff things, and these Antaina(>) shoes which were pretty cute tbh. I was 14 so. thats my excuse lol..
Tumblr media
3. What is your most recent piece?
My most recent piece was this awesome Marble faux leather skirt. I just wore it recently in an ero coord but I haven't posted the pics yet
Tumblr media
7. What inspired you to join the fashion?
So when I was around 6-8 I got the FRUiTS book. I was already into fashion and stuff and I was obsessed with the book, J-fashion pretty much became a special interest. I used to like google lolita dresses on the google shopping tab and like open loads of links to dresses (which looking back were almost certainly milanoo) and wish I could buy them, I also found Sweet Rococo and used it like a game and just never checking out. I sort of just thought I'd never be able to wear lolita though because it was sooo expensive (I guarantee you those milanoo dresses were like £50 lmao). Tbf I didn't know much about the brands or where to buy. When I was 13 I made a friend who was also into lolita and Jfashion, and together we discovered the online Live Journal community, which we lurked. When I was 14, I spotted a sweet lolita walking down the street in my city while I was on the bus, I texted my friend immediately lol. The last thing that happened was I took a trip down to london and discovered Sai Sai and Gothic Lolita & Punk in Camden market, and begged my mum to help me buy a "full" outfit, which is the one above. Sorry for the blog post lmao
14. What is something about previous eras of lolita fashion that you'd like to come back?
The quality of well made cotton pieces in oldschool and even late 00s/early 2010s. I hear so many newbies say that taobao is equal or better quality than brand but I think that's just because the quality of the big brands has declined so much. It's such a shame. I also miss the unity of the Live Journal era. Maybe i'm viewing in rose tinted glasses because I started in the fashion just towards the end of the LJ community being active, but I miss the community having one main spot to congregate y'know?
16. What common misconception about lolita fashion bothers you the most?
Just one? I feel like they all bother me lmao. I guess any non lolitas saying that we're all elitist bitches and evil gatekeepers for having a basic criteria for what makes something lolita. Like okay it's kind of true but not in the way non-lolitas think it is. Another is that we dress like this for attention or that it's okay to photograph us without asking

This classic Lolita collection dress also has some customized products like lace, accessories, etc. which comes with it depending upon the chosen variant of color and size. It is sleeveless, so it doesn’t hide your hands but gets the eye focus on your torso which looks thinner than before.

Can you be Goth without the music?
This has been an argument that’s been going on for the past few weeks or so. Short answer: No, but it’s really wishy-washy? Okay, let me explain... Goth is a music based subculture. Music is what brought the subculture to life and what holds it together now. Music is the forefront of goth. BUT it’s not the only part of the subculture now. Goth is now also fashion, comics, literature, lifestyle, and whatnot. However, this argument has come up because a lot of new people have come into the subculture without knowing the history or music and are just looking at the fashion aspect. They start getting into fights about who has the more expensive Killstar outfit. (And Killstar is SUPER overrated. Like, no one should be paying that much for a screen print tee.) These bigger brands and their loyal customers are killing off smaller businesses and clubs. Babybats are coming in and only seeing the clothes, so they get a goth-in-a-box outfit and a new Instagram handle and that’s it. To be part of the subculture you at least have to know a little history and appreciate how music was and is the thing that ties the subculture together. What about lifestyle? Some people say you need to live a goth lifestyle or have a “goth mindset” to be part of the subculture, but what does that mean? For most people it means having a home that looks like it belongs in Dracula, or doing things that seem spooky, like taking a bath with a Hex Bomb or having depression. The first part of this just feeds more into the consumerism that Goth is spiraling into (Not to say we didn’t do this back in the day with Alchemy or LipService ... Once a problem always a problem.) and mental health issues have nothing to do with Goth. You can have depression and be goth, but you are not goth because you have depression. A lot of people say the mindset is a “darker outlook on life, and obsession with death, being artsy...” But these things can be found in someone who is not goth at all and a goth might not have any of these traits. All of this is completely arbitrary! What about things like going to clubs and events and music festivals? Well, those things just bring you back to the music.  So what if I want in the subculture, but I hate the music? I HATE the founding goth bands. At best I can tolerate them, but the more 80s something sounds the more I want to shut it off. Bela Lugosi’s Dead is a good song but it takes WAY TOO LONG to actually get to a good part. I won’t mind if Sisters of Mercy is playing in the background at an event, but I would never listen to them on my own. Do I hate goth music? No. I absolutely ADORE dark cabaret. And this is the problem I see a lot of people ignore. When they say, “Goth is such a large genera, you’re bound to find something you like!” they always bring up the same few bands over and over. they’ll say there’s postpunk and darkwave and deathrock but only sample bands that all sound the same as each other. They usually don’t get into ethereal or dark ambiance or electrogoth. They ignore industrial and dark cabaret and gothabilly and anything made past 1992. That’s a huge problem with the people saying music is the one and only thing that makes you a goth. They’re only considering the bands of the past as “Goth” and if you don’t like Christian Death then you’re Goth Card’s gonna be revoked. Boo on them. Goth is huge and there needs to be more love for modern bands. They need all the help they can get since the scene is turning into such a fashion show. If you don’t think any of the music is for you, you’re probably listening to the same five bands every elietists says you need to to be a “Real Goth” without knowing there’s so much more out in the genera. Hell, Voltaire put out a goth-country fusion CD and it’s pretty decent. I bet there is at least one goth song out there you’re gonna like. It just takes a little searching. And what about the other aspects of Goth? You mean the comics, literature, and things like that? Well, that’s what I’m here for. I want to spread light not only on more obscure music, but also other smaller media that the subculture produces. I myself make goth comics and they’re not selling. On top of that a lot of goth comic artists have been fading away and not producing work. This movement to only social media and a focus on only looks has really been hurting smaller businesses from clubs to zines and it’s really sad. I love this subculture and it is a CULTURE with it’s own media. I want to make more comics, but I can’t do that if I get three book sales a year. I want to read more goth comics and I can’t because there aren’t any being produced. So I want to restart a love for these things so people can find a new thing to love and I can make more things to be loved. The day the subculture becomes fashion only is the day the subculture dies and I refuse to let that happen. Just enjoy the subculture. You don’t have to like all the goth bands. You don’t even have to like the ones that founded the subculture. Just know a little bit of history and appreciate that music is the foundation. And I’m sure there’s SOME goth music that will pique your interest. And if you still can’t stand music, you’re free to be darkly-inclined. Gothic Lolita, Steam Punk, Emo, and Pastel Goth are all separate from Goth but we get along with those other darkly-inclined subcultures just fine.

This blog entry is based on the subculture fashion. Lolita began in Harajuku, Tokyo in the 1980s when Omotesando and Takeshita-dori, streets in the Harajuku district, were closed to traffic on Sundays. This closure allowed youths to gather in Yoyogi Park and the surrounding streets to listen to rock music performances, shop and simply spend time among other young people. Youths and street performers started appearing in wild, unconventional outfits which gradually developed into recognisable styles such as lolita, gyaru or kogal, decora and ganguro. These styles were catalogued by a street photographer, Shoichi Aoki, in his magazines STREET, started in 1985, and FRUiTS, started in 1997. Photographs from FRUiTS have now been released as a compilation in a book of the same title and toured both Australia and New Zealand as a photography exhibition, allowing Westerners a glimpse of this “grass roots” Japanese street fashion movement.  Lolita fashion was popularised with the establishment of brands such as Baby, The Stars Shine Bright in 1988 and Manifesteange Metamorphose Temps de Fille in 1993. Other brands include Angelic Pretty, Innocent World and Mary Magdalene. While most brands cater to the Japanese market, the advent of Western interest in the lolita subculture has meant that some brands have begun selling to Northern American and other Western countries; some brands such as Metamorphose have developed English-language websites to cater to this interest. Primarily, however, brands still aim their clothing at Japanese girls in their teens to mid-twenties. Stylistic influences for lolita fashion spring from a variety of eras, the most easily recognisable being the Victorian era. The fashion is more akin to children's clothes from this era than adults'; skirts generally fall around knee-length rather than the full floor-length gowns, and the exaggerated wasp-waist corsets are not often worn. Influences are also taken from other eras such as the 1950s and the French Rococo style, but while lolita has a historical look and feel, it is not from any particular period and tends to blend multiple historical looks together for its own individual and recognisable lolita style. The lolita style has since developed into multiple sub-genres, the most notable being gothic lolita (known in Japan as gosurori, a contraction of the phrase 'gothic lolita'). Where traditional lolitas wear pastel colours, embroidered cotton prints and lace, and sometimes carry toys such as porcelain dolls or teddy-bears, the gothic lolita is more likely to wear black lace, monotone black, grey or white dresses, and crosses or crucifixes in a style more akin to Western Goth. However, the main emphasis is still on Victorian styling; it “combines aspects of a Victorian girl's attire with a dark gothic mood.” This style has been popularised by Japanese visual rock bands such as Dir En Grey and Malice Mizer; Mana, the leader of Malice Mizer, has established his own store named Moi-meme-moite, which sells a distinct style known as Elegant Gothic Lolita. Other styles include punk, sweet (with even more pink, baby blue or white and a surfeit of lace) and classic. Some followers of the fashion choose to combine lolita with other popular street fashions, leading to hybrid styles such as cyber-lolita or wa-lolita, where a traditional Japanese aesthetic reflected in the kimono-style garment is combined with the bell-shaped skirt and headdress worn by lolitas, but the most popular styles remain sweet, classic and gothic. While the style could easily be confused with a sexual fetish, due to its namesake the novel 'Lolita' by Vladimir Nabokov, the lolita subculture emphasises modesty and youthfulness, as well as drawing from the Japanese kawaii or 'cute' aesthetic, and is not considered overtly sexual by its followers. Most Japanese lolitas are not even aware of the original source from which the fashion's name was drawn, although the Gothic Lolita Bible, a popular magazine for those interested in the culture of lolita, encourages the reading of that novel. One of the more unusual aspects of modern-day Japanese society, at least to Western eyes, is the prevalence and even acceptance of the 'Lolita complex' or lolicon, where middle-aged men are attracted to young girls and often seek out pornographic manga (comic books) which is readily available at bookstores and train station kiosks. While there are hints of the 'Lolita complex' evident in lolita fashion, the young women who adopt and wear lolita are not catering to middle aged men's pornographic fetishes, but to their own desires to be 'cute' and non-sexual. In fact, some lolitas state that one of the attractions to the lolita subculture is the lack of sexualisation in the fashion. In a society where the rise of “sexy beauty” has resulted in clothing such as miniskirts and shirts which emphasise the breasts, as well as breast enhancement and other cosmetic surgeries, lolita is seen as a reversion to demure clothing which allows women to dress for themselves, rather than for the attention of men. Whether lolita is a fashion or a subculture is a matter of some discussion among followers. Many women wear the style only on weekends and for concerts, possibly as a form of escape from their more prosaic everyday lives and of course, simply because it's 'cute'. Other women say that lolita is a lifestyle, and even when not wearing the clothes, they try to incorporate the lolita ethos into their everyday lives. Momoko, a character from the novel Shimotsuma Monogatari ('A Shimotsuma Story', translated into English and published as Kamikaze Girls) by lolita novelist Novala Takemoto, expresses the wish that she could live in the carefree, whimsical and hedonistic Rococo era. No matter whether a lolita wears the style simply as a fashion or sees it as a lifestyle, the culture of lolita is an escape to a fantasy world free of pressures of modern-day society and adulthood. While Japanese women of today have wider societal roles than those of their mothers, they are still expected to enter employment only until marriage and childbirth, and while employed they are generally placed in lower roles than men. It is still common for a young woman to be employed as a greeter or elevator girl at a department store, or as the “office lady” asked to make tea and photocopy documents at a corporation. Additionally, Japanese culture emphasises the importance of motherhood as a “sacred mission” and discourages women from pursuing a career as it distracts her from her main task of motherhood and running the family home. Thus girls and women who wear lolita are rejecting the societal expectation of low-importance careers and homemaking in favour of a fantasy in which they can “fulfill their own sense of princess-like aesthetic beauty” and avoid growing up in a more mundane world. This rejection of societal norms by lolitas reflects the rise in Japanese society of young people, especially women, known as 'parasite singles'. Millions of young Japanese are choosing to stay living with their parents into their twenties and even thirties, working for a living but spending their income on material items and refusing to get married or have children. Lolita fashion is expensive; items from brand stores range from one hundred to five hundred dollars, and a full outfit may cost as much as a thousand dollars. The fashion began in the eighties, reflecting the affluence of Japanese society created by the 'Bubble Economy'.

2017 New Year's Doll Meme:
((Lo traduzco tan pronto encuentre las ganas, que se me han perdido por ahi entre los decorados de navidad...))
As every year, let's start! What sculpt do you wish you could see more owner photos of?
- BuddyDoll dolls in general. I know the factory died long ago but I still find them to be the most special sculpts for me. And the few there are are owned by Russian artists in the majority it's not easy to find any picture at all nowadays
Do people choose names for their dolls and characters the dolls are based on and then check excessively to see if anyone is already using the name? Are they bothered if they find other dolls having the same name?
- Personally I'm not. I come up with a name, I never give a single fu*k if anyone else it's using that name. I bet there is a thousand if not more humans using "my name" and I'm not obsessed by it so why should be obsessed about my dolls names..?
What company do you wish were more popular? What company do you wish were less popular? Why?
- I will say BuddyDoll again but since they're closed, I'll go for Obitsu, the big ones, are exactly the same as any other Vinyl ball jointed doll like DollfieDream or SmartDoll but people somehow hates them, I never knew why... And I wish SmartDolls weren't so popular, me, personally, fell like cheated, Danny C. was supposed to give us "the next step on doll evolution", a robotic doll you can command trough an app in your smartphone, and then he reconsidered the cost of production and ended up giving us 'anime flat faced characters' who are ALL ""Mirai with the exact same clothing"" (almost), and for some unknown reason people praise him like if he had invented something marvelous. Wellp, he didn't, he just made another version of DollfieDream but uglier and less imaginative, not the "dolly robot" he promise, and the reason why his brand was called SMART-DOLL to begin with.
Based on the characters written, out of your dolls, your friends’ dolls or even other owners’ dollies, which doll would you most like to be friends with? And which doll is most likely to be your mortal enemy?
- My, this is a good one, since I have a saga of published books about my dolls histories and their character I know them all very deeply and I can say for sure, "Star" will be the one to most likely becoming my friend since he's pretty much like me in many ways, intolerant, nasty for fun, sarcastic, unpredictable, every mistake I have he have almost the same so there will be a problematic friendship but surely we will remain friends for a lifetime. And "Lily" will most possibly be my sort of "mortal enemy" since she is so vain and thinks so high of herself as a doll that this will continuously might generate 'girl cat-fights' over the smallest things.
What’s the longest you’ve waited for a doll to arrive? What’s the shortest?
- Longest?, MOC (mint-on-card), their costumer service sucks and they're rude and they threat you with cancel your order after months of waiting if they don't like where you live even though they had previously told you they had no problem shipping there. It took over 8 months to get Star his own proper body since I wanted a very specific 'over-articulated' body from a specific company who wasn't selling if not trough agents and MOC was the only-one who accepted to ship internationally so I had to suck it and wait while they insulted me over months and months, the final insult, supposedly "extra hands" they had to send me, they send me a pair of hands doing the fu*k you, yes, they ultimately gave me the middle finger on resin. I still have the hands, no idea what to do with them actually... - The shortest?, easy, a week from paid to product arrival. From recaster S/L (China BJD).
Do you like to sew for your dolls? Where do you usually get your fabric?
- I HATE to sew for everyone and everything. Is not like I "can't", is literally, I HATE IT. And when I do have to sew because I don't have any other choice I find fabric in the most weird places. Never online, I live on a "clothing factory district" so I can buy my fabrics here or even real clothing for humans on sale and use the fabric I need from there (since dolls are smaller than humans a t-shirt for a human will have enough fabric for a doll t-shirt for sure).
Do you like to create things for your dolls, be it clothes, wigs, accessories, ect? If so, what?
- As previously stated I do hate to create clothing items, and shoes. I avoid it as much as I can, but I love to make eyes, doll heads, bodies, wigs (fur or fiber), jewelry, and sometimes even props... (though I don't use them much).
If you have pets, do you let them near your dolls? How do they feel about your dolls?
- I have (currently) 3 cats. I let them near my dolls under my strict supervision. One of them wants to steal Star's bed and sleeps on his lap every time he can, but I doubt Star will like that and it might be even a danger for the animal if Star long fingernails break so I never actually let him do so. the other two cats, one ignores my dolls as he ignores humans too, and the lat one it's too curious and can't stay put for a second so he usually just smell my dolls and move on to the next shinny thing.
Is there any character of yours that you wouldn’t want to get as a doll? Why?
- Pfff, hard one here, now that I think of it....... mmm....... no, I don't think I have any character that's a "NOPE" if it comes as a present.... Why?, well, maybe because I only relate the dolls to the characters I make and whatever I hate from them, is in some sense a "part of me", so I can live even with the parts of me I don't like. It's called self-esteem. - Plus, I have Lily, and it's my less favorite character so.... right now I can't think of any. Sorry.
Has anyone ever broken one of your dolls? How did you feel? How did they react?
- By the time I started with BJDs I had already had a lot of "bad experiences with assholes/friends coming home and breaking stuff". The one I remember the most right now, was my best friend (at that time) taking a very rare/expensive/hard-to-get "Kaiyodo Evangelion Eva 05 figure" back in the 90's, and detaching the legs...then he lol'd about it...........that guy now lives 12 hours away, in another continent. Problem solved.
Where do you like to get your supplies? (Elastic, eye puddy, ect.)
- At first (since I didn't knew any better) was all online, the imports on my country are/where expensive but we didn't had all the stupid regulations we have now. Nowadays I tend to actually use my head and look for the stuff I need where I can buy it directly on a real (physical) store around the corner, so I always have a lot of supplies at had. You just need to know what you need and where they sell it. It's not that hard and much more fun.
If you could have a doll of any fandom character, who would you get and why?
- I think Sephiroth from “Final Fantasy VII” series. Thus his armor (specially the shoulder plates) are a pain in the arse'... I did had one of my dolls customized to be him but ultimately ended up using the doll for a character on my book and giving him, a more 'easy to deal with' clothing.
Where is your favorite place to host your doll photos? What other places do you like to share them?
- Mainly DeviantArt, but I also use Tumblr and FB (sometimes). I tend to change over the years but this are the sites I use almost all the time.
What type of camera do you use? What about light set up?
- I hate photography almost as much as sewing clothing items. Sorry.
Where do you usually buy your eyes from? Do you prefer glass, acrylic, urethane, ect?
- I buy my eyes everywhere I can and I do actually prefer glass eyes.
What is the best deal you’ve ever been able to score (be it direct from a doll company, an etsy store, the second-hand market, etc.)?
- Recast from S/L. Purchased 3 1/3 SD dolls and got a mini and a 1/4 for free. + their respective eyes.
Face up artists: What were some things you struggled with when you first began face-ups, vs. things you struggle with now? How do your first face-ups compare to your more recent ones?
- When I first began faceups the most common mistake where the eyebrows, now I don't think I struggle too much about anything anymore... practice do make the master.
What color resin is most of your crew? What color resin is your favorite? What color would you like to get next or in the future?
- Most of my crew it's Normal Yellow, but I have all sort of colors, Tans, blue, white, grey, pink, even Glow in the dark resin... it all depends on the sculpt and the character I'm making.
Do any of your dolls celebrate a holiday other than Christmas?
- Guest you could say Star celebrates his birthday (the day he was order) as a reminder of how I started in this hobby and how long I've being up with this until today.
If you could change one of your dolls into an outfit that isn’t their aesthetic (aka pastel lolita into gothic punk, bad boy into nerdy jock), who would you choose and why? (Also, would they go along with it, or would they protest?)
- I think "Wind" will make a good dark Gothic "something", since he is (as a character) continuously changing his look in search of "who he is" don't think his character will mind neither...
Have you ever bought through Taobao? If so, what did you get, and how did it go?
- Yes, dolls items and dolls, it went perfect. Thank you very much.
Do any of your dolls have a ‘theme song’?
- Star does. It's the song "Iris" from "GooGoo Dolls".
Are any of your dolls more popular than other ones when it comes to likes, reblogs, ect? Are any of them less popular?
- I never notice about "my dolls popularity". I'm not in high-school anymore. And to be honest I gave a sh*t even when I was on high-school so... I'm a very happy outcast, so are my dolls.
If you have more than one doll, how are they connected? Are they from the same story line? If not, do you think they’d still get along?
- All my dolls are connected, all share the same universe and are tied to the events of their main story depicted on my books. Some get along better than others like in real life real people would.
Do you ever smoke (cigarettes, cannabis, ect.) around your dolls? If so, do you worry about the smell? If not, would it bother you if others did?
- I don't smoke. It kinda' bothers me the smell of cigarettes on anything (-or "dirty/wet dog smell", that is on my top ten list of smells I don't want EVER smell again on my LIFE-), but I've learn to live with it since my dad it's a heavy smoker so his belongings always smell like cigarettes... As long as it's not on MY dolls your doll can smell however you prefer and I have no reason to get mad at anyone for it. It's not my doll. Period.
What are your favorite places to hang out within the community? Do you like a specific forum, or fb group?
- I think the community sucks all the joy out of this hobby. I have decades of experience on this community and other fandom related communities and let me tell you, is not worth it. It's a drama over another drama over ANOTHER drama... sooner or later you will be in the center of a hurricane and you won't know what the hell just hapend.
Tell me about your dolls personality! If you have more than one doll, pick a few of your favs! I’d love to know all about them. ^^
- All of my dolls are intertwined into a main story. There are a lot of characters each with an unique story and motivation. I can't really resume their lives as OC's here, but if you like you can read my book. Main characters personalities are a bit like: Star (selfish, unpredictable, values his freedom over most things but it's not an idealistic guy, sarcastic and acid, oftenly apathetic), Doc (curious, loving, gentle and smart but a bit bitter at times), Max (strong, intimidating, never let's his emotions out unless necessary, manly and quiet, can't stand being a slave or other weaker dolls), Swan (smart, fierce, beautiful despite her defects, courageous, stubborn), Angel (distant, quiet, very powerful, mysterious), Pax (strong and kind to others, particularly the weakest ones or the ones in need, honorable and a very good person/doll, values everyone's lives above his own), Night (agile, not as fast as Star but still a skillful doll, very sociable and likes to joke around), Light (serious for his age, tends to be taking care of Night and considers him his brother although they are not related, very loyal), and so on...
Are any of your dolls in a relationship, or married? Do they have any children?
- Spoiler Alert. Yes. Not going to point fingers at them.
What’s your grail doll? (’Grail’ can be interpenetrated any way you desire.)
- I don't really know.... I'm still waiting on a strong actually BIG and not "soom ridiculously thin legs" centaur, like SoulDoll Chiron kinda' centaur, 70 fucking centimeters for real, bad side is that much resin is not something the companies are willing to use on a single doll if they can use half and still sell you the doll for the same price so.... keep on waiting I guest. Most of my grail dolls I already have them so I'm not like "desperate" about getting a specific sculpt. That being said, there is always a doll I will like to own but is not like I'll die if I don't own them...
Do you usually get dolls for a specific character, or create a character once you have the doll?
- I usually get the doll for a specific character but this doesn't mean I haven't piked my good share of dolls just because they're pretty and felt obligated to give them a character afterwards...
Do any of your dolls have an accessory or piece of clothing that they always wear?
- "Night" have a "bow and arrow" set. "Star" has a yellow/orange sparkling scarf, "Max" have dog-tags, "Doc" have black long boots, "Pax" have a blue feather hanging on his neck.., almost all of the characters/dolls I have, have something special that they wear of like to have around at every situation...
Do any of your dolls participate in any clubs, or sports?
- I hate sports, I never did took interest or asked them if they did. But I'm guessing no...
Do your dolls have any pets? If so, would you ever get their pet as it’s own doll?
- Some, and in some cases, yes... but mostly they don't have pets.
What is something about your doll that no one else knows?
- I can't seem to change the eyes of my first doll, I tried like 4 times and ended up back to his original eyes in less than a day. It's like the eyes are the window to the entire personality of that particular doll and without that specific eyes he doesn't looks the same...and I can't tolerate that fact. I fell like I've just killed someone whenever I change his eyes...it's a weird felling knowing he is a doll and it's not actually alive but damn...fells like shit. :/
What is your dolls favorite color? What about their favorite color to wear?
- "Star" preffers redish with a bit of blue, "Doc" loves everything black and specially red... "Lily" loves Pink and white, "Max" prefers military-like colors or simple things...and so on...
Are any of your dolls spiritual?
- I'm not sure on how to interpret this question, ...do you mean if they (their characters) are involved in "spiritual" or so activities..?, or if I use them as "spiritual dolls" to hold the spirit of the dead in real life..?, really, this question needs some context.
Do any of your dolls have tattoos? If so, do they represent anything?
- Not that I recall, maybe a couple. Not going to spoil the story and their meaning. Sorry.
Do any of your dolls have a nickname? Is it one they like, or do they dislike it? Who gave it to them?
- Star usually call Max “the old guy” or “the old men”, and Doc nickname Max sometimes as “the warrior”. But Max doesn’t know they called him nicknames.
* All this questions belong to: "Bjd Discussion Time!" please check their blog for more.
** Disclaimer, right now, Jan 2017, I have over 80 (or more, stop counting them a long time ago) Ball Jointed Dolls, so it's a LOT difficult to list them all and I replied this questions to the best of my knowledge. Hope you have less dolls and can actually give more precise answers.

Introduction
So what is EGL, exactly, and Lolita, more broadly? (the grammar is such a big issue with this fella)
Mana is, for the most part, a gothic lolita. A large section of his clothing line, Moi Même Moitié, is devoted to the gothic lolita style, while the other bit is "elegant gothic aristocrat" (i think). (Great way to start, they don’t even introduce the style properly, not even explain Mana’s long history wit lolita fashion and they don’t have any idea about the brand) A perfect example of the style would be his costume (coord) with the floofy little skirt from the live concert DVD "Bara ni Idorareta Akui to Higeki no Makuake". It's been around for quite some time according to my advisor, but I don't believe it's gotten much attention until recently. (giving opinions into a informative article without knowing shit about the subject matter is okay? no) There are more lolitas than ever now, and I can't help but think it had something to do with Mana. In fact there is now a randomly (four times a year is not randomly) published four-volume magazine called the Gothic & Lolita Bible (I'll be calling it "The Glub") (GLUB) devoted entirely to gothic lolita-ism, that always has a large section dedicated to him and his clothing brand. (lolitaism: the philosophycal movement fonded by mana-sama in which in order to be superior you must have all the burando) It also features drawings by Mihara Mitsukazu* and has recently begun to use other Jrock celebrities to promote the different brands of clothing. Some of the most notable are Kana, Dada, Miyavi, and the Pink Psycho. If you're interested, it's about $16.00 or so at www.fujisan.com.
I guess it's a little hard to define a lolita, (this entire section should have been first).  since there is such a wide variety of styles and extremes (you know, the far left and far right are present in the lolita fashion) in the clothing. They range from punk to dolly dresses and everything in between, including punky dolly dresses (this exact phrase made me open a bottle of Rum). Originally, Lolita was the name of a young girl in a book by Vladimir Nabokov . The book is about an older man who falls in love with her, and this is where the term "lolita complex" came from (Rorikon in Japanese). (this is a very akward way to try to distinguish the lolicon from lolita fashion, it feels like the writter tried to just include all the stuff they knew while they were thinking about it.) A lolita complex is used to refer to and older person who has an interest in children. The Japanese took the concept and, as they do with seemingly everything, related it to anime and manga. The lolita (loli, not lolita, even in the old school times they tried to separate the two concepts by calling the sexual lolicon and the fashion gosurori), a cute, innocent, very well endowed little shojou that usually wears skimpy clothes or schoolgirl salior suits, was named for this. In gothic lolita terms it means frills, lace, ribbons, knee undershoes, and poofy skirts in pastel  and flowered cloth. (i think they just mixed all the styles alltogether. Pastel colors are from sweet, flower patterns are mostly classic, this is not a old-school vs modern thing even.) Rather than "lolita" in the original sense,  its definition is closer to a western princess/french doll look. It really does look a lot like something you might find a porcelain doll wearing. (well, porcelain dolls are usually collected from some decades or centuries ago. If you have ever had some kind of doll you have noticed that people usually dress the dolls with clothing that mimics the fashion of the time, same goes with old french dolls. Lolitas clothes are not doll-like, they have past times inspiration. I know this is a nitpick but i also want to inform people a bit)  Being such, it doesn't mean that anyone who likes the lolita style is a pervert. Mana is very careful to inform people that he doesn't have a rorikon. (oh boy, don’t even get started into ddlg and sissies here please) Recently, according to a Hanumaru Cafe special, it's become popular to be either an angel or a demon gothic lolita. As far as I can tell, it just depends on whether the lolita wants to wear black or white. (unrelated anecdote for the win) For more information, see the guid up top.
The gothic part of the lolita goth is, well, gothic (no shit Sherlock). Vampires, black, heavy make-up, middle age European clothes, whatever else a goth is. (The writer does not only have an idea who mana is or lolita is... they don’t even know what gothic is, wow)  The two styles combine in different ways. You can get complete doll dresses and then find something gothic at a different store, or something with punkish shredded cloth and bondage undertones. (you guys know how some not-so-short time ago i commented about opening a bottle of Rum? Yes? This two phrases decreased my IQ to the half i had remaining after the drink. I don’t know how this person looked at this and said: “this is totally alright, i absolutely know what the fuck i am talking about. ) Sometimes they're blatantly bondage, I suppose. They also seem to like silly hats and parasols, and were probably into humongous platform shoes until the government banned them because people couldn't drive well in them and were getting into car accidents. (wait what?) Or something like that. Now some of the more bold loli's may carry a doll around.   But, as you can see, each brand has its own unique style. Or use to. It is my opinion that they've all been meshing together and there really isn't much variation in any of it; they've been conforming. The prices are outrageous by american standards, and still slightly high by Japanese standards. Maybe $150-$450 for a dress, $125 for a skirt.. ( except that the second hand market and the handmade comm have been a thing since long time ago, handmade being practically the origin of the fashion) Anyhow, back to the glub. I suppose I would consider it a sort of bible, although I've only been to Japan twice so I don't know much about what else is out there. (Welp, there is gosurori, kera and zipper) The interesting thing about it is that it not only provides clothing guides and celebrity interviews, but also a long list of "gothic" products (oh, you mean like almost all the magazines?). They like puppets, angels, and vampires a lot. They're also really into Tim Burton and Edward Gorey*, who they call Edward Golly in the typical Japanese fashion*. I'll add a section on him later since I firmly believe that everyone should at least read "The Dwindling Party" before they expire ^^. That aside, there is always a poem or article of some sort somewhere in the magazine to introduce the whole ideology behind the magazine and clothes. Yup, there's an actual ideology behind it. Surprised, ne? (Holy mother goose, i really do regret to joke that lolitaism was a movement based on a brand hierarchy. This person must think that lolita has its own political party or something like that. What do they promise? That AP will start to do dresses that are wearable to people with human anatomy? or that VW or Excentric will come back from the dead?) I don't know if everyone really follows it though. Last time they had a street shot of a lolita who probably had no idea what Jrock was; she liked Ayumi for goodness sake. She was probably wearing the dress because it was "kawaii" (cute), a word that the silly shojou pop-culture followers seem to idolize, but which is only fine when used in moderation. Truthfully, they are cute ^^ but you have to be prepared when you first see one or it's a little creepy. (Judging people from the street snaps from their tastes and also mixing weeb culture with japanese vocabulary is now a thing)
They refer to the style as "youfuku", or western clothes. But they're really not, since very few westerners ever wear anything like that, and if they do they've gotten it from Japan. (I did a quick google search and found that the therm is used for whatever garment that doesn’t follow the japanese traditional clothing line; things like jeans, blouses, jackets.. all of them enter in the category. So, yeah, this is wrong) The Japanese tend to blame wierd things on the west, even if they're almost completely unrelated. (unrelated to the subject) The words they've borrowed from English are interesting because they show the same thing.
Welp guys, this is all for this text. Just gotta say that this persons writting is atrocious even for me (being english my third language. I hope some of you survived to the experience or didn`t give up into psychoactive substances.

Lolita Q&A
What colours can be found in your Lolita closet? Mainly Black, Beige, Pink, Blue, Mint, Green and Purple. XD What is your favourite colour with Lolita? Probably Pink … but I also love my mint and blue pieces. <3
What is your least favourite colour in Lolita? I never wear red (except for my coat XD) because I've got the feeling that it would clash with my hair.
Which uncommon colour do you want to try out? I'd love to create an outfit for my new dark green dream dress – IW's Royal Library. (((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))
Are you more a Onepiece, Jumperskirt or a Skirt person? I always thought I would love OPs most, but it turned out that my wardrobe contains over 50% JSKs. XD
Which cut do you like the best? „Normal“ JSKs, not underbust, not babydoll, not corset. And I really like highwaist skirts when they're not too small. :P
Print or no Print? Usually print. Depends on the price.
How does a dress/skirt have to look like that it will be a “must have” item for you? Books. <3 And if I know that I will still wear it when I'm 100 years old.
What is your favourite style in Lolita? Oldschool Sweet! And Classic. And a bit of Country.
Which style do you wear regularly? See above. ;)
Which style you want to try out? I need more Sailor stuff. I have only one working outfit. Need to make that style work for me.
Which style you never want to try out/wear again? What I thought was punk or ero in my ita-phase. XD
Brands yes or no and why? My Heart belongs to Baby The Stars Shine Bright! ゚・✿╲(。 ◕ ‿ ◕ 。)╱✿・゚
Which brand is your favourite? See above. I also love Innocent World and La Boutique de la Mimic. <3
Which is your least favourite brand? if you ask me … Moitie is kinda overrated and -priced. ^.^'''
Ever had a good/bad experience with brand? Very good with Innocent World and Metamorphose when they attended our Tea Parties. ( • ̀ω•́ )✧ Also when I bought from IW directly, they were extremely nice and fast.
Will this experience encourage/stop you from buying brand? Encourage … maybe, since I've made a few bad experiences with private sales … you have always more securety when dealing with professionals.
Did you ever got surprised by a piece of Lolita? According to Bodyline, I'm a Size 2L. -.-
Did you ever got disappointed by a piece of Lolita? The fact that there are no winter-proof boots. (even less in my size) I got a pair from Bodyline wich will probably not be snow-proof but I can't find out because they make such loud squeaky noise, I can't stand it! Doc Martens it is!
Things that you like about Lolita? I got to meet so many great people, I found one of my best friends on a Meetup. (〃⌒▽⌒)八(〃⌒▽⌒〃) I also love the style, it unites elegance and playfulness, Gothic and Kawaii Fashion, while being comfortable and extravagant at once! It's just the perfect style for me! <3
Things that you dislike on Lolita? The sizes. I'm not even chubby but relatively tall … my feet are 24,5cm wich is appearently plus size in most japanese stores … I'm glad that many brands start to recognize oversea-customers and provide shipping and more sizes or custom sizing.
Do you have a Lolita fashion idol, if ‘yes’ who is it? Well, the girls at my local comm always inspire me in their own unique ways. ^3^ Some inspire me to more extravagant outfits and others to more ways to wear Lolita in a casual, everyday way. <3
Does Lolita affect your every day life? Sorta … Can't put my finger on it, but I got into Lolita-esque styles when it comes to furniture and stuff.
Do you buy Lolita related things, like cute looking furniture? Again, see above. XD Over the years I think my house resembles my wardrobe more and more and all the stuff like cups, phone cases and store boxes became kawaii too.
Do you read/buy the Gothic Lolita Bible? Occasionally. I got a few issues at opportunities, I hunted one specific issue where our Tea Party was featured, of course. ;)
How to you describe your fashion style to others that don´t know about Lolita? It's a japanese Street Fashion Style. I/we wear it everyday. No, it's not a costume. No, I'm not an actress …* starts crying on the inside *
Is there something you want to say to your fellow Lolitas? I love you guys, thank you for taking me to Japan with you! <3 Mimic, thank you for all the awesome custom-made stuff, you have to come back soon, there'll always be a room for you! ;3

Here are my Results !
61-80 points is the realm of an experienced Lolita! You've probably been active in the fashion for a number of years, have a fairly large and diverse wardrobe, and have attended (and hosted!) your fair share of Lolita events. You're most likely well-known within your local, and online, communities. You're probably practically an expert on the fashion and have probably introduced, or at least guided, a few friends along the right path in the fashion. Your next step is most likely to do a closet cleaning or some wardrobe organization because you probably have a few years of accumulated clothes.
