You ever play any Grisaia VNs? What are your thoughts on them? I just started Fruits a couple days ago, I'm enjoying it quite a bit so far. (Barely really into the game at all)

Kinnie I have MANY opinions on Grisaia, Fruits is definitely one of the visual novels that dominated my favorites list for a while when I was first getting into visual novels, it's still a vn I remember fondly dispite my issues with some of the routes pacing issues.

As for the rest of the series I really don't feel like the sequels ever captured the magic of that first vn very well, nothing really stuck out when I played them and I have no real desire to go back and replay them.

Also I own the complete collection, og japanese version too!!!

Also Sachi is best girl and always will be!!!

The Fruit of Grisaia Part 6 - Irisu Makina Route & Overall Review

The way to get on Makina's route is certainly...interesting. I feel sorry for the girl since she really seems to crave a guardian, but her calling Yuuji "papa" is gonna be weirdddd lmao. I wonder why she has so much money.. I can see why Yuuji would agree to be her "papa" seeing how desperate she was though. Lmao when Makina made Sachi break the lock on Yuuji's door so she could make him breakfast. Needless to say, I'm as shocked as he is that she actually made him normal sandwiches. Lol with how serious she wants the father-daughter roleplay. Omggg, I did not expect that basically full on French kiss Makina forced on Yuuji when she got his guard down, like whoa, didn't expect her to be the kissing animal, even Amane was more tame in her own route lol. I'm glad Amane is watching out for Makina because I'm wondering if this kiss she thinks of as normal actually kinda shows she had a very...weird relationship with her parents... Anyway, I just wanted to say, Yuuji not minding Makina's kiss felt illegal.

HAHAHA, I honestly love Sachi in every route except her own lol. I love how she said they needed Michiru to complete their family roleplay by having her take the role of the pet dog🤣🤣 I have to admit though, when it comes to the humour of each girl, I probably prefer Makina the most even though I can't feel for her as a romantic interest. Lmao at the secret conference Amane and them had, and they even exposed Chizuru's affections for Yuuji🤣 I wish we had a Chizuru route, she's so adorable, I want her! Anyway, I love how everyone's getting exposed for their weirdness and affections for Yuuji. It's so funny how everyone bullies Chizuru, to be fair, she's so easy and fun to bully, you just can't help it🤣 I'm glad we have resolved the mystery of how many maid uniforms Sachi has, and I can live in peace knowing she's got a "battle" version that can take bullets to a certain extent because Makina supplied her with them hahaha. I expected Makina's father to have died because of her since she said she didn't want Yuuji to ever risk his life for her, but it's kinda sad to know that her father got shot when he tried to pay the ransom when she got kidnapped. Obviously it was because he stole some account book after realising how corrupted the Irisu family was, but does Makina know that? She's probably blaming herself, and her mother who doesn't care about either of them would never expose it. What the heckkk, the criminals just left Makina tied up there for 6 days with no food or anything, and she was basically forced to look at her father's corpse for the whole 6 days. I'm not sure anyone could be normal after that.

LMAO at Yuuji teaching Makina how to ride a bike and pushes her so hard, she hits into a tree. The poor girl, I would complain too. He really has no delicacy and patience to teach properly. I love Makina's imitations of the girls, they're so ridiculous, especially the Michiru one, it was so funny🤣🤣 Makina working part-time at her favourite bakery with the bread she loves would be nice. It was really sweet to hear Makina say she wanted to give the melon buns she got from work (that are the proof of her hard work) to Yumiko and everyone to thank them for always helping her and stuff. She's such a good girl. Imagining Michiru getting chased by kids who are into her tsundere roleplay at the festival is so funny🤣 On the other hand, I love how Yuuji taught Makina how to shoot a gun in order to get her Tunafish Man toy instead of getting it for her, I think it's more fun that way and I think she would prefer that too. Okay, lmao that Yuuji actually got an air rifle for Makina so she can practise being a sniper. I'm not sure what she needs this skill for but it's nice to see her kinda absorb everything he teaches her. Well, peaceful things had to come to an end. It was cute how Yuuji took Makina to visit his Master's grave. But yeah, it was saddening that Makina had to witness her own sister die right in front of her, especially since she used to always go sneak looks at her because she was so curious about the existence of a little sister. I find it so terrible that such a young girl died like that because of family feuds and political stuff. Oh, she's alive, that's good. Anyway, I find it really weird how everyone thinks Yuuji would have sex with Makina and think they're "together" because they really do feel more like a parent and child to me lol. On the other hand, as usual, Yumiko is really great, I love how she helps Yuuji kinda come to his senses when he's brooding too much and losing sight of the things in front of him because he's too focused on protecting Makina.

Oh wow, Makina's mother looks very young and pretty, she's basically a more mature Makina lol. I felt so terrible for Makina when she saw the bakery burning before her eyes. It's really terrible to have to witness innocent people getting caught up into your problems and I honestly feel so bad for the bakery owner, I can't imagine the financial losses and the emotional distraught they must be in. Yuuji gently kissing Makina was actually really sweet. I don't feel like he's ever been so gentle and kind before with a kiss, so seeing him do that for Makina was cute. I guess I should have expected it considering all the other routes, but dang, everyone only has sex when they're emotionally hurting and needing comfort lol. When they were talking about assassinations, it was obvious Makina was going to be the target, but I didn't realise that Yuuji is on reserve right now because he can't kill people anymore. He was able to do it back then because his master aka Asako was his reason to fulfil these jobs of killing people in her place, and she gave him the comfort he needed after killing someone, but now that she's dead, he can't kill people anymore, and that's something I never knew or realised throughout the routes. 

Lmao when Makina and Yuuji went to Yumiko for advice and treated her like a god, I died when Makina started throwing coins at her lmao. On the other hand, it's kinda funny how the gist of the route is pretty similar to Yumiko's where they run away together but just with more dire consequences I guess. Obviously, it was just a matter of time until they got caught, but I still find it really silly of Makina to go back for the plant that represented "hope". Sachi just randomly gave it to them before they left etc, so I just find it really difficult to empathise with how much Makina cherished it, so I do blame her for wasting Yuuji's efforts. You can say she's "just a kid" but she's really not. She's a kid but not at the same time and she can't just do stuff like this without consideration for others. Honestly, with how powerful the Irisu family is, I find it hard to believe that they need Makina's organs to save her sister, I'm sure it's probably "better" or something, but she's definitely not the only way they can save the sister. As usual, Makina's mother legitimately sucks. I know Yuuji is mentally breaking down and stuff, but it's still frustrating for him to have chosen to kill Makina's mother as the "solution" for saving Makina because it doesn't solve the problem at all. Personally, I didn't like either endings🥲 The good ending is obviously "better" but other than the fact that Yuuji is alive, I really don't see how much better it was lol, at least it might be fun to see Makina take over Yuuji's spot as the new 9029 and bake bread on the side? Lol. But still, Yuuji just seems so exhausted and dead, I can't even call it a good ending. And the bad ending just has Makina kinda "lose herself" like Yuuji did after having to witness him die for her, and I think that's terrible. Also very disturbing that Makina is still taking jobs as 9029 whilst pregnant and definitely mentally unstable, like what? Anyway, both endings were very unsatisfying and now I have to sleep recalling how depressed Yuuji seemed, and how much Makina is trying to protect them and their relationship but it's hard even though she believes it'll be okay. I guess it's nice that the ending wasn't what I expected but I'm not sure it's something I really wanted lol.

Overall, I liked Makina's route in the beginning, because even though it was weird to hear her call him Papa all the time, it was undeniably a positive thing for her to constantly be learning new things and opening up her world to stuff like working at a bakery and baking bread, which eventually became a passion of hers which I really enjoyed seeing. I also liked her and Yuuji's relationship because even though it was evident that Yuuji was soft to her and wanted to help her due to his past when his Master/Asako picked him up and raised him to be the person he is now, so he wanted to do the same for Makina, you could really see how much he slowly warmed up to this little girl who just wanted to live a normal life with the people she likes and I enjoyed that. Otherwise, I wasn't really into the minimal parts we see of Yuuji's past to just kinda justify his mental breakdown because that's how it felt to me, and I couldn't feel anything else towards it other than it being a means to an end to save Makina in a terrible way imo. I also found Makina's decisions especially with the plant to be more annoying than touching so I kinda got frustrated with how childish she was lol. Oh, and as I felt before going into this route, I would like to say again, Yuuji and Makina just do not match as a romantic couple and really should have stayed as "father and daughter" because I definitely loved them like that more and I think it fits them better. I honestly wanted Yumiko to be Makina's mother lmao because I think she would be great haha. I also really liked how much of a mother Amane was too, it was very sweet. As usual though, Yumiko is best girl even though her route was boring~

Overall Review

All in all, personally, I don't think the Fruit of Grisaia lived up to my expectations considering how many people seem to love it. I think I probably went in with the wrong expectations but still lol. A lot of people seem to love Yuuji as a protagonist and I'll admit that I guess he is different, but he falls kinda flat to me because I find his personality kinda weird sometimes. This may be attributed to the different writers for the different routes but yeah, I never really found him appealing anyway because yeah it's interesting that he's probably as weird as all the girls but at the same time, I don't feel like I knew enough about him to really care for him as a character. Maybe I'll have a better opinion of him in the sequels but I'll need a break from Grisaia for a while lol. Funnily, I always thought Yumiko's route was boring and I still do, but I think I like the Yuuji in her route the most🥲 In terms of the girls, my favourite to least favourite would be Yumiko-Michiru, Makina, Sachi and then Amane lol. Yumiko because her personality is the best, she's level-headed, smart, attentive, sweet and caring, her only negative is the plot of her route is boring and resolved in a silly way, but I did enjoy how real her romance with Yuuji felt (eventually anyway). Michiru because she's hilarious and I love how emotionally heartbreakingly relatable her situation was in her route, I cried for her, but I didn't like the ending and Yuuji's crappy attitude, but yeah, I still love how bright she is and how cute she is. In terms of humour, I actually love how much of an old man Makina feels like but she's also too childish for me and her romance with Yuuji still makes me feel like it's illegal lmao. I really enjoyed Sachi's humour in routes that weren't her own tbh, I especially liked her in Makina's and thought she was so cute and cool, but sadly, even though I liked her past and stuff, a lot of my love for her didn't occur until I got out of her route lol because I found the "humour" in her route really off-putting. Even though Amane got much better as I continued to play the game, her route wasn't really her route, so other than being the sexy housewife onee-san that felt bad for "causing" Kazuki's death, I don't feel much for her at all. She'll be a good mother and stuff but she's not a good love interest. Overall, I'd probably give the game a 7/10, not great, not terrible but there were many times I wanted to give up and drop it, but I also didn't want to because I do like the girls and they are funny.
