Road at the RMCC Wiesbaden.
I still dislike the building it's ... ugly. As most modern buildings are. Just a block in the landscape. But the light was nice.

OMFG another post about recasts
Yup. Once I realized that I've been collecting BJDs for five whole years, it's made me a little introspective.
So this is the one and only legit sculpt by Luo Lugoi - an honest-to-dog legitimate sculpt from Oueneifs:
Tumblr media
And yes, I own her.
Arguably, she was "inspired" by other companies, but plenty other BJD companies are "inspired" by each other. See - Impldoll's new 1/4 "plump" body.
My stance on recasts went from stridently angry, to curious, to nuanced - not in the sense of being "recast-positive" or even "recast-neutral." Let's call it "recast-pragmatic." The arguments around recasts by pro-artists, which I am absolutely sympathetic to BTW, are that people shouldn't buy recasts. Agreed.
But they are.
See, the problem with this argument is that it reminds me strongly of another line of argument - the one in favor of abstinence-only education. Different subject matters, yes, but the type of argument is identical.
"Children shouldn't be having sex!"
Agreed. But they are.
"But they shouldn't be!"
I accept your argument. But they're doing it anyway, and we can't seem to stop them. So: what are we going to do to minimize the harm? Cuz abstinence-only education appears to increase harm.
And that is where my nuance falls on recasts now. YES, people should not be buying them. YES, they are theft. YES, Luo Lugoi has zero excuse when companies like Guard Love, Ao Ling Shi, and Resinsoul/Bobobie have been making beautiful, affordable, legitimate resin dolls.
But people are buying them. And saying they shouldn't be doesn't change the fact that they are.
So. What do we do to minimize the harm? What worked in the past? What didn't work?
And that's my post about recasts. Hopefully a little different from what you've read before.

Sascha -- ✿, ☠, ☆, Beckett -- ☾, ▼, ♥, Aila -- ☆, ♡, ♦
Beckett:
☾ - sleep headcanon
On the road, he’ll always sleep with his diary tucked under his arm, or against his body in some way. (Supported by BJD, too.) It’s not just for security, it’s also kind of a comfort having all that history and all those memories close at hand.
▼ - childhood headcanon
Was a kid during the Great Plague of London. So that was fun. Oxford was more or less insulated (it was where Charles II and his family fled to), but the paranoia and fear that, any moment, stinking death would arrive was pretty formative (it did get pretty close). Add in that there was an unusually bright comet seen shortly before the plague struck, and a fire in 1671, and by the time he was in his teens, he was cynical and sarcastic, distrustful of religious proclamations about the apocalypse because it had been rough but they had survived, and desperate to learn more about the world so he could try to work out what the hell his place in it was.
♥ - family headcanon
Didn’t know his father well, one reason why he sort of glommed on to Aristotle as his new dad. He was decently close to his mother and siblings, and as the eldest child, did his best to try to support them, even if his chosen field of scholarship wouldn’t necessarily, uh, pay a lot. But the intention was there!
Aila:
☆ - happy headcanon
Aila, when happy, tends to close her eyes more (she’s usually very on-guard and closing her eyes is a sign she’s relaxed) and hums a lot. Basically making noise and shutting down other senses. Means she trusts whoever she’s around.
♡ - romantic headcanon
Very physically demonstrative. Like if she’s into you, she shows it - leaning on them, resting her head on their shoulder, little touches, stuff like that. It’s also comforting for her too, so like she might just attach herself to someone if she’s having a depressive episode. Gets very touch-starved when she’s not involved with someone.
♦ - quirks/hobbies headcanon
GOTTA GO FAST. Basically an adrenaline junkie and loves new things. Probably used to go drag racing, go on rollercoasters, stuff like that. Also, rebellion... like crashing a plane then making out with her boyfriend in some ruins. She does get an adrenaline kick out of fighting, yeah, but her real enjoyment is nyoom. Used a lot of Celerity.
Sascha:
☆ - happy headcanon
...rare, for the time between 1234 and 2006-ish XD;; Still, even then they got a lot of enjoyment out of books and writing in general. Mostly nonfiction - history, geography, learning the shape of a land and the people there - but they have had their moments getting into fiction.
They may have got into Animorphs. Intriguing cover art, fascinating portrayal of youth involved in war. Not bad for juvenile kine fiction!
Gonna put the other two under a cut, TW for trauma, consent issues, sadism, and mention of torture, because Sascha is a Mess(tm).
✿ - Sex headcanon
Since the nature of their trauma was that it was very apparently soft and affectionate except that they weren’t able to actually consent, they actually prefer it rough, either giving or receiving - if the latter, they don’t necessarily see it as submitting as almost a conflict, and they’d find it more disturbing if someone was actively being loving and affectionate with them than being rough. They do have a softer side, but the softer stuff is only reserved for those they trust unconditionally, so... Ilias and eventually Beckett, which is when they actually let down their guard.
☠ - angry/violent headcanon
With the Dracon, their emotions were pretty blunted. So there was plenty of violence, but not necessarily with anger behind it. Which is, uh, not ideal because it means Dracon!Sascha was very very in control and deliberate. I strongly feel that the Dracon’s anger and resentment combined with Sascha’s own curiosity and intellect and sort of... turned into someone who was like, “If I do this to that nerve, how much pain will they feel?”
Post-Dracon, they’ve lost the Dracon’s outright sadism and resentment, but also the emotional blunting. They’ve essentially emotionally regressed back to how they were in 1234, so those emotions, anger included, are a lot more evident. So, more likely to lash out, but also more likely to go, “Wait, that was fucked up” (I mean, unless it was justifiable anger, hi, Symeon, you’re getting eaten) and to fix whatever they broke XD;;

Hello. Stumbled upon your blig when i'm researching body for my oxmo head by dollfc (instagram)/chaofan. Especially interested in 4th gen guard love. Have you receive yours yet? Seeing you have so many yosd body would love to seen nude photo of them and posing review would be great too. And i guess you can read chinese as you know a lot of chinese artist. Could you please give some pointer on how to find them? As taobao is confusing to tell from recaster or not. Thx i enjoy your blog.
Hello and thank you for the message!  I wish I knew what head oxmo is, I don’t have Instagram and couldn’t find it when I searched.
4th gen Guardlove body - I haven’t received mine, and probably won’t for a few months, as the pre-order just ended.  (So it’s probably not a good choice if you need a body soon…) I’ve been relying on photos and reviews from collectors on Weibo who received samples from the company.  Here are some photos and reviews: One, two, three, four, video by the sculptor.
I’ve been planning to do nude comparisons of my Yo-SD-sized bodies, but there’s always more bodies on their way in… XD;; I’m waiting for Guardlove, 2D Doll and Akagidoll at the moment.  All the comparisons or posing reviews I have at the moment are a Yo-SD/ Pettimal/ ASAI comparison and a Pettimal review.  I also linked two Chinese sources for multiple body comparisons here and here.
Even Chinese people get tricked into buying recasts on Taobao, so yes, it can be hard to tell.  Tips:
Avoid the stores of  notorious recasters such as username “luoligui” (I believe this is the infamous recaster who tried to trademark many Korean doll companies’ name as his own in China) (shop name changed to “shuga fairy” but username is the same), 园梦天使, 萌精灵娃屋.
Avoid the stores that appear in the right-hand column on the BJD search results pages.  These are stores that pay to be promoted in the search results, and as far as I can tell most of them are recasters.
If sculpts are freely offered which you know were limited edition, or skintones are freely offered which were limited edition or never released by the original sculptor/ company, or sculpts which were only released as heads/ without bodies are sold as full dolls (e.g. Napidoll Carol)  - it’s probably a recaster.
Finally, if it’s too cheap to be true compared to other official Chinese companies’ or dealers’ sites on Taobao, or the RMB equivalent of the original overseas artist’s price, it’s probably a recaster.  (This is not a recommendation to buy from them, but dolk.taobao.com is an authorised retailer of many brands - you may compare prices with them.)
Good luck on your search!

I never expected to find this wellspring of talent in the Furby fandom.
Let me explain. I’m 26 years old, I’m a toy collector, and I’m also a classically trained artist and a costume designer. I’ve been around the block a few times in toy collector groups, and I have never seen ANYTHING like what I’ve found here. I was not prepared. The content of every other toy fan community I’ve been a part of has primarily been BST groups that treat their toys like investments. The most carefully taken photographs are ones of box damage or authenticity stickers. On a rare occasion you’ll get someone bragging about their multi-hundred dollar display setup for their thousand-dollar collection. The largest walls of text are dissertations on in-box collecting and scarcity. Pictures of the actual toys have a tendency to be bury or poorly lit, over-exposed flash photography with boring plain white backdrops. People who do custom work on their toys are as frequently criticized for ‘ruining the value’ of their toys as they are complemented on their work - and the work itself is rarely good. And then there’s Furblr. Beautiful photographs that demonstrate an understanding of mood, lighting, composition and display a keen and personal aesthetic sense. Furbies are not exactly an ideal photography subject! They have like six facial expressions max, and zero poseability beyond the ears - but here I am seeing hundreds of unique and beautiful photos of them - dressed up in, frankly, incredible and creative costumes and taken to neat locations for photoshoots - these are incredibly loved toys! If that wasn’t enough, the attitude of the fan community itself is just... it’s so good. You’ve taken the best pages out of the BJD community and given your toys names, personalities outfits - I really can’t stop gushing about the outfits, I never would have even considered costuming a Furby and I do costumes for a living! Broken or glitched toys are not seen as ruined or worthless, but are prized possessions, given humanizing descriptions like mute or sleeping or quirky. I read paragraph long descriptions of what others would see as simple programmed interactions described as elaborate unique personalities - the creative writing talent in this community is surprising!
There’s a culture of shared information here that’s really delightful. Robotics are daunting to work with, but our resident techs are helpful and putting out content to make repair more accessible - diagrams and videos and explanations, all that. Custom artists share tutorials and patterns. And, listen, they don’t make old Furbies anymore, they are a limited resource - but I regularly see you all advertising rare or cheap listings you find with the rest of the community, or even offering finding-services for free. Many would see the above as opportunities to make money within the community, secrets to be carefully guarded, but the environment here of helpful information sharing is just something else. I would be remiss if I did not touch on the maturity I’ve seen here, too. A lot of you are kids, or barely-not-kids. A lot of us are trans people, or marginalized people, and there’s a broad range of financial status represented here as well. There’s a lot of room for friction internally. There’s a lot of room for friction externally as well - Furbies fall into a realm of uncanny valley robotics for a lot of people, and the outside world opinion of our shared interest is not always flattering. What I’ve seen so far is honestly something to be commended - brief, curt, reasonable responses to legitimate issues, a fierce protectiveness of the vulnerable members of the community, and a refocusing on Furby content after conflict is resolved. No community will ever be perfect, but the Furblr I’ve seen is doing very well for itself so far, and I hope to see that continue in the future. Collector communities are not like this elsewhere. So really, thank you all for existing. Thank you for sharing your time and your talent and your passion with me. Tip your artists well, complement each other’s work, and continue to build each other up. It is an honor to be among you.

It’s time for another BJD Rainbow of Orientation Day! Yay! 🌈 This is Christian, my Only-Doll Tingyun. Like most of my other characters, his story is set in the 1980s—thus why I sorta styled his doll version to look like Robert Smith and Martin Gore’s lovechild. Anyway. While 90% of my characters identify as LGBTQA+, Christian has the distinguished title of being the only gay male I’ve shelled (thus far, that is, as I have more OCs begging me for their resin forms). For those interested in his backstory, here’s a little about him: Christian was born in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Ohio to live with extended family after his mom died. Since her death he has succumbed to solitude, eagerly confiding in books over people in hopes the written word can help him escape his fears. Despite his introverted nature, Christian loves basketball and was the point guard for his team back in New York. He is also active in his high school’s theatre department and has a secret passion for riding Ferris wheels. His biggest pet peeve? Pizza too small to fold in half. 🍕 🌈 🌈 Mint PS: Christian’s character was named in honor of Christian Death.

Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) scored a landslide victory in the by-poll to the Bijepur Assembly Constituency while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ended up at the second position and the Congress at the third spot.In a fiercely contested election, BJD candidate Rita Sahu emerged victorious with a magnanimous margin of 41933 votes over her nearest rival and BJP candidate Ashok Panigrahi.Rita Sahu polled 102871 votes of a total 181716 ballots casted in favour of as many as 13 candidates in the fray. While Ashok Panigrahi got a total of 60938 votes, Congress candidate Pranaya Sahu managed to garner 10274 votes only, said Returning Officer Tapiram Majhi. The BJD won a staggering 56 per cent of the polled votes, while the BJP won 33.53 per cent and the Congress a mere 5.65 per cent, said Majhi.Pranaya Sahu also lost his security deposit as he failed to poll 1/6th of the total votes. The vote counting process concluded after 21 rounds with Rita Sahu going way ahead of Ashok Panigrahi in the initial rounds and the lead of same magnitude remaining intact throughout. Reacting over the win, Chief Minister and BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik thanked the voters and said that a victory by a margin of more than 40000 votes will have impact on future elections. “Humbled by love & trust of the people of #Bijepur for giving @bjd_Odisha a massive victory. BJD lives in the hearts of the people of #Odisha. Our people are peace loving and have rejected the politics of hatred and violence,” Patnaik tweeted.“I thank each and every BJD worker who has worked hard for this. We will continue our efforts to build a prosperous and empowered Odisha. Jai Jagannath,” he added.“The victory is a reflection of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s popularity and good works done by my late husband Subal Sahu,” said Rita Sahu.BJP legislature party leader K.V. Singh Deo conceded the defeat. “We need to do our introspection over the defeat in the Bijepur bypoll and move forward,” said Singh Deo.“The Congress votes got diverted towards the BJD. We were at the third position during the 2014 general elections. However, we have secured the second position this time. Besides, the amount of votes in our support has increased by a huge margin as compared to the previous polls. We will definitely register victory in the 2019 general elections,” said defeated candidate  Ashok Panigrahi.“The BJD had distributed black money among the voters to influence them,” he alleged.Celebrations erupted at the BJD party headquarters here. Party workers were seen dancing and bursting firecrackers following the victory of their candidate. Similar scenes were also witnessed at the BJD’s Bijepur office. On the other hand, BJP and Congress offices wore a deserted look.BJD leaders and workers were also seen making a beeline to Naveen Nivas, Naveen Patnaik’s residence here, to congratulate the conch party chief.Notably, the by-election was held on February 24 in which around 82 per cent of the voters had exercised their franchise. It was necessitated following the death of Congress MLA and Rita Sahu’s husband Subal Sahu in August, 2017. Rita was inducted into BJD in September 23, last year.  Though there were 13 candidates in the fray for the assembly seat, the high voltage fight was primarily seen as a triangular contest between BJD, BJP and Congress.Campaigning reached fever high in this assembly segment with the biggies of BJD and BJP camping in the area. The by-election campaigning also saw Union ministers and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik seeking votes in favour of their candidates.During this phase, sporadic violence provided fodder to politicking with shoe hurling on Naveen Patnaik at a rally and attack on Labour Minister Sushant Singh’s brother pitching the BJD against the saffron party. Amid mudslinging and trading charges of the ruling party channelizing its administrative resources to its advantage, the electorates cast their franchise on February 24.The Bijepur by-election was a prestige battle for the BJD and BJP as the two adversaries were claiming victory which is viewed as setting the tone for the twin elections due in state early next year.A buoyant BJP was hoping to sail on the surge in three-tier Panchayat polls held in state, exactly around this time last year. The voters’ verdict has come as a blow to the BJP as well as Congress in many ways than one.It would be a major loss of face for Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who campaigned extensively and highlighted the failures of the ruling party vociferously. The results proved that the popularity of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik remains intact despite an aggressive campaign by the BJP, which failed to capitalise on its advantages from the panchayat polls. The BJP had swept the Zilla Parishad polls in Bargarh district in 2017.On the other hand, the Congress party, which won the assembly seat the last three times, was completely decimated in the by-election. For Congress which had read the writing on the wall before the announcement of the results, the verdict calls for some serious introspection given it was a grand old party’s bastion.Secondly, its rise in vote share in recently-concluded elections across the country. The elevation of Rahul Gandhi infused long-awaited vigour into the cadre which incidentally resulted in consolidation its vote bank to some extent. With it having no impact in Odisha, call for impending change in OPCC guard appears imminent.Suresh Routray, senior Congress leader and father-in-law of PCC chief Prasad Harichandan, had lashed out at party leaders for the by-poll defeat before even the result was out, uncovering the fissures within the party wide open. Call for Prasad’s ouster will only get shriller. The Odisha Sun Times Bureau : 28th. Feb,18
WHY BJP FAILED TO BLOOM IN BIJEPUR BY-POLL IN ODISHA ?
