New doll diorama is up! This one took a while because there are lots of props, plus I had to decide on the perfect design. :D
Have you ever been to a themed cafe? They're very common in Japan, ranging from anime to video games to role play. Some are permanent, others are pop up (temporary). The interiors are always completely decorated in the theme, and the food is also designed in accordance with the theme. Most of these places also have gift shops where you can purchase exclusive items ranging from stationary to clothes to figures to plushies, all revolving around the cafe's theme. So fun!
I tend to always do things in themes, so this was right up my alley. I just knew I wanted to make my own Japanese themed cafe diorama. There is no shortage of options, but I decided on a Gudetama cafe. Gudetama is a Sanrio character, and his name literally means "lazy egg." This adorable little egg can be seen in a variety of scenarios, usually being prodded to not be lazy. It's quite amusing! I looked up actual Gudetama cafes so I could make my design as authentic as possible. Almost all of them featured bright yellow walls in a variety of patterns with huge wall decals of the star character on them. Smaller wall art was also common, and the wood floors even had a yellowish hue to them to finish off the look. Statues and figures were also prominent, so I placed a white cube shelf in the scene to hold some of my mini Gudetama items I've had for a long time (didn't even have to buy new stuff for this scene!), as well as the menus and place mats that I made. I also painted all the chairs yellow (they were originally purple) and painted the table base white (they were pink). The booth is borrowed from the Licca-chan revolving sushi set.
So here we have a group of dolls enjoying the themed goodies! All the food items are from Re-Ment, and the sets included a lot more - I just couldn't fit any more dolls in there LOL. And of course, this being Japanese themed, I had to use my Azone dolls. They're a better fit for these chairs and tables anyway since they're not as tall as Barbie, so they fit her size furniture better than she does LOL. Plus - interchangeable hands! YES!

On the next episode of The Misadventures Of Gudetama, Gudetama faces almost certain death in…the breakfast buffet (da da duuuuuuunnn).
Taken on my dresser in my apartment bedroom. My family is in the process of moving back to California from Wisconsin, and for now we’re using the apartment space as a transition home. Unfortunately, my room doesn’t have a lot of light for taking photographs (grant it was taken at night), but my bedside lamp is not sufficient for macro.

Re-Ment: Gudetama na Gendaijin Review
“Gudetama na gendaijin” means “Gudetama-like modern people”.
I wasn’t originally planning to get this set since it seems more “character-like” than “food-like” (I prefer sets where Gudetama is smoothly incorporated into the food instead of being treated more like a person/mascot) but I couldn’t resist some of the small details.
I did my best translating the Japanese taglines of each item or including a link for further reading - a lot of this is cultural commentary on the modern generation in Japan. (Cultural commentary? in your Re-Ment? it’s more likely than you think)
Party People: Red Eye - Red Eye is apparently a Bloody Mary-esque cocktail with an egg in it that’s often used as a hangover remedy. I was initially disappointed the liquid was an opaque red but given that it’s tomato juice, it makes sense. The glasses + liquid bits are all separate and they stack and balance easily, which is nice.
Ikumen (“father and child”): Oyakodon - This makes absolutely no sense from a biology perspective since there’s no way an egg can be the father of another egg, but whatever, it’s cute, and I like it. Since the dish is oyakodon I’m assuming the chunks of meat behind are chicken - how morbid, lol
Satori Sedai (”enlightened generation”): Roast Beef Bowl - Gudetama looks so zen here with the sauce coming down on it like meditating in a waterfall. The meat is a bit less rich in color than I expected but not bad.
Zangyou (”overtime”): Beef Bowl - overtime and working to death is a problem in Japan, and this dead-inside Gudetama comes clad in a hachimaki (for motivation)? or is it wearing its tie from the office on its head? The best part of this is the tiny laptop hinge works, so it can open and close! I was definitely not expecting that.
Jidori (“self taken picture”, jidori is also a type of chicken. it’s a pun!): Yakitori - this is hands down my favorite one and a huge reason I bought this set. The silliness of Gudetama in a little wig taking a selfie! The Gudetama faces on the quail eggs! I adore little touches like this. My one gripe is the paint job on the meat is duller and less appetizing than the packaging photos showed, but it’s not a dealbreaker.
Hikikomoritai (“I want to be a shut-in”): Egg Over Rice - I was sad about missing out on the Gudetama breakfast set and I haven’t managed to blind box that egg over rice so this fills that void in my heart. Poor Gudetama looks ready to climb back into the egg it was cracked from... I feel you, Gudetama. This is my second favorite in the set.
Metabo: Ramen - apparently obesity (and metabolic syndrome) is a growing problem in Japan now. aside from being rather gloomy, the paint job in this item leaves much to be desired. The dullness of the meat is the worst here, and the ramen + soup base and cabbage seem to be more roughly made than what I’m used to with Re-Ment.
Harajuku-kei: Vegetable Crepe - finish off the set with a stylish egg in a stylish crepe. I love this one as well but I kind of wish it was smaller or more to scale with the rest of the food - it’s bigger than the oyakodon bowl which is a bit strange.
Overall a decent set - definitely an impulse buy and if I had thought too long on it I might not have gotten it, but I also don’t really regret it. As of now, it’s probably my least favorite Gudetama set that I own since it’s less detailed and intricate than I’ve come to expect, but that’s just me being picky.
I do think the sizes of the food are a bit bigger and seem to be more similar to other mascot sets (such as Rilakkuma or Moomin) rather than the food in the Petit Sample series. I haven’t compared to my other Gudetama sets yet but it seems this way, as I recall having more difficulty packing them away in my plastic trays.
Buy it here on AmiAmi (2910 JPY / $25.65 USD at the time of writing this post)

My ask is your all time favorite Sanrio character😊 do you collect stickers of them? I have tons and tons of Sanrio stickers
Aw, this is the best ask! I love it! My favorites are Pompompurin, My Melody, Wishmemell, and the Little Twin Stars, though I love so many of the Sanrio characters that it's hard to list them all off! I also think Strawberry King is really cute, and Gudetama is adorable, as well!
I collect lots of Sanrio merch, including stickers (both physical and digital ones, like the Line stickers), though I have an inexplicable phobia/contamination anxiety linked to stickers being applied to things, so I always keep them on the sheet or cut them out like small pieces of art, instead of sticking them onto anything.
More than stickers, though, I love the plushies! I really want to have a big collection of Sanrio plushies! I have lots right now-- including a special Hello Kitty in an astronaut costume, complete with plastic helmet, and a bee Pompompurin with a honey spoon-- but would love to collect some of the more vintage ones! I also collect the miniature toys from Re-ment: I have a whole shelf of them in my room, with some of my favorite minis being a little Gudetama pudding parfait, a My Melody stew and bread, and a Little Twin Stars bakery!
And though I know he's not technically Sanrio (he's from San-X, a rival brand), I love Rilakkuma! Specifically, I love Korilakkuma and Koguma, the littlest bears!
What are your favorites, darling?

Heyhey the mun offers a small smile, "Well sadly I'm afraid I don't much about tea so I apologize but! if anything I offer you this gift card to get your own tea and your very own gudetama re-ment set similar to mine!
“....A, gift card?”
The robot was flattered, but clearly confused. Why was this stranger being so generous?
“You are very kind, little one. I appreciate this.”
