Guncanon: Romantic Orientation

THIS WAS LITERALLY AN “Achievement Unlocked” MOMENT IN MY BRAIN AND SO I’M WRITING IT OUT BEFORE I FORGET.

I’ve mentioned this before, but Gunther is demiromantic. He’s not as in-tune with attraction as others might be, and may accidentally leave a crush flustered doing what he thinks is a genuinely nice thing. He may have feelings for someone, but he himself might not realise it until someone points it out. Once he does figure it out, it lifts a weight off his chest and he fully embraces being in a relationship.

However!! There is another factor, and for this we need to look at the ‘coding’ side of things. In other words, we need to be meta and examine Gunther as a ‘character’ in terms of the ‘coding’ we see at the start of part 2, and in terms of him as a prop in a story made by someone else. Out of the four team Leads, Gunther is the only one that was not initially programmed with ‘love’.

Mark needed it. Whether he has a crush or he’s BFFs with the Captain, he needed to have a love to fuel it. Celci has it, and it feeds into whatever potential backstory she has with Mark. Burt requires it to put the necessary feeling into his poetic thoughts. But Gunther? He was simply the weapons guy, the one with the guns and witty remarks. He was never intended to be anyone important, and you don’t really have a meaningful positive moment in it. As a result, it was never put in: whether because it wasn’t needed, or it was an oversight.

Gunther coming from this to being demiromantic is a BIG change to what was required of him. It shows the potential for some sort of development, and the ability to add something small to the coding. It might be a joke that he’s a little oblivious or slow to act, but it’s a positive regardless.

Before I forget, his love languages are: receiving compliments (he’s not used to the little cutesy ones), quality time, and spending time trying to learn about a partner’s interests.

I know I haven't posted non art stuff here in a long long time but I wanna try and use this more as a general social media too what with everything at the other one. I have always sort of liked the set up of tumblr more anyway but a fear of being annoying and posting things people don't care about when they probably follow me for a fandom I haven't drawn fanart for in 2 years lol.

Hello! I'm BoltCreature. I do a lot of thinking about drawing and SOME actual drawing. Mostly chibi/SD stuff cause I have that issue where if I can't finish something in one burst of drawing I don't wanna finish it (this is only 50% a joke).

As far as hobbies go I love tokusatsu, manga and anime, video games, horror movies and gunpla mostly.

My favourites of these things are off the top of my head.

Manga: Alita Last Order, Chainsaw Man, Eyeshield 21, Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou, xxxHolic.

Anime: Durarara!!, Baccano!, Laid Back Camp, A Place Further than the Universe, Mobile Suit Gundam.

Video Games: Final Fantasy XIV, Dark Souls, Animal Crossing, Super Mario World, Raging Loop.

I'm currently playing VA-11 Hall-A and loving it.

Horror movies: Ring, Noroi, The Blair Witch Project, Halloween (1978), Shadow of the Vampire

Gunpla feels a little silly to make a top 5 of cause I do love it but I'm not hardcore by any means. I recently build a HGUC Guncanon (my special little guy) and the HG Ariel and they were both very good!

I also stream occasionally at twitch.tv/boltcreature - mostly art stuff.

The header of my tumblr page is from episode 3 of season 1 of Joe Para Talks With You. It's a very good episode of television that everyone should watch, it's very important to me.

The old Guncanon is a classic, seems fun to build. And Haman Karn Qubeley is i honestly think one of the weirdest and most unique mobile suit designs. I hope both where fun to build especially the Qubeley!!!

Obscure guncanons that have been popping in my head while doing drafts:

He absolutely has a ‘dad sneeze’. It’s rare to hear, but it’s so loud it makes him rock back and forth if he’s standing. Hence why I used the bowled over icon earlier. Fortunately for everyone, he doesn’t have any common allergies.

Following the trend of ‘Mick’s characters having a bee pin’... While he doesn’t have a pin, he has a tattoo of a bee on his right collarbone. It’s just below the hood, so it usually isn’t on show. However, if the hood is down, you might be able to catch a glimpse of a wing.

He’s right handed, but can wield weapons with both hands.

Dan is absolutely a member of his squad. The ADS have a uniform similar to Cryo in that their jumpsuits are white and that safety goggles are a requirement. There are two immediate differences: the black turtleneck underneath, and the requirement of longer gloves and tied up hair. With the squad handling potentially dangerous items, they can’t afford to have sleeve cuffs or long hair caught on anything (and yes, Gunther is also aware that that particular crew member is also a ‘sexy crew member’ when the need arises, able to distract and woo with the power of music). It is one of (if not the) smallest departments on the ship. 

If he’s on break, you’ll likely find him on one of the upper levels of the atrium. If he’s off duty, you’ll have better luck finding him in his quarters. He doesn’t mind visitors.

For that matter, his quarters are tiny. He had requested something similar to the rest of the staff. He didn’t see himself ‘above’ them, and so he has a small bedroom with a table and chair (and other furnishings of some sort), and a restroom to the side. He also has a filtration system in place so it doesn’t smell like smoke.

The self-defence classes he keeps offering are a thing! Twice a week in the evenings, he and his squad get together to help show other crewmates how to defend themselves with weapons or hand-to-hand combat in their main training area. Gunther thinks it’s vital that everyone can at least get themselves out of trouble and run.

Gunther is absolutely a fella that will nap in his room and completely forget to take off his goggles. He's also someone that can sit somewhat normally on a couch while sleeping. Arms crossed, head lowered slightly. That sort of thing.

So imagine you walk into his room, see him sitting on the couch, call his name, and startle him awake to the point that the shades go lop-sided.

Guncanon

Okay I’m not gonna start running around and making an entire ADS crew. BUT. I’m taking this chance to go the silly route.

B5147 - Cupid Diarmuid Amor

Admittedly, he’s not the most reliable. He’s someone that can get easily flustered and distracted by a pretty face, so he can often work at a slower rate than Gunther would like. It usually means that Gunther has to assign himself as Cupid’s partner for paired jobs so he can keep the other focused. In return, Cupid is used to being around Gunther, and so won’t find himself getting a little crush. It’s a safe combo.

However, Cupid also has the ability to charm and flirt, and this is why he keeps a spot on the ADS team. When the hair is down, it means he’s ready to pull out the stops. He can distract a target and stall for time while the rest of the team get to work.

But this ‘power’ comes at a price. People become rather enamoured by his outgoing, flirty persona, and he worries that it would cause an unhealthy infatuation. It’s why he keeps the hair up and the goggles on. He’s a light-hearted goof, but he doesn’t want to find love through his abilities. He wants to know the right person is there because they like him for who he is.

Guncanon: Sleep

If on break, and not hanging out in the atrium area, you can safely guess that if he can't easily be seen in the main areas, Gunther is napping in his room. Since ADS double as security, he has himself scheduled in for several late night patrols throughout the week. They can take their toll if daytimes are busy.

Most times, he's a light sleeper, and can easily jump into full alertness in seconds if he thinks something is happening in the corridor outside. This also means that if it's late and people are rowdy, he isn't gonna be too impressed.

012. What makes your character embarrassed?

Surprisingly, it's the little things. It's being told he's cute, or that he's got a nice voice when he's humming a tune to himself. He's from a family of military and ammunition experts. Those little moments of softness were not a thing shared between the family. It's not a bad thing. Gunther adores his family. Rather, their version of those little compliments were about other hobbies, or technical skills with weapons. For instance, he nearly cried when his momma said she was so very proud of him for getting such a good reputation in the bomb squad.

So being given compliments that we might take for granted throws him for a loop.

017. When does your character think that violence is justified or deserved?

Would you believe this is one I was thinking about before I ever reblogged this meme?? For this, I'll need to pull your attention back to the confrontation scene. I've mentioned before that Gunther is a man of justice. If something is bad, he would want to set it right. It's only natural. Despite his reputation with guns, violence is often considered a last resort option. He tries to train the crew so they can defend themselves and flee if they have to. In that scene, he holds the gun, but there's no intention to shoot. He wants the truth, and would put the weapon down if the Captain had spoken (or distracted him).

Violence is something that shouldn't be relied on, in his opinion. Yet, if push came to shove, he would rather fight than allow someone else potentially get hurt. He's in charge of security for a reason.

027. What is their idea of perfect happiness?

Right now? For the colony to be safe in a new world. He's met some of the colonists that are sleeping, and he's of the belief that there is hope with them. They have the potential to build a great future, and he's looking forward to seeing that. Ideally, he'd like to settle down and have a family, but one step at a time.

039. What do they think is the worst thing that can be done to a person?

Being stuck in an endless timeloop with memories of dying or various gruesome ends and no way of stopping it because it's completely out of your control.

Guncanons

Just some things to get us started while I keep working on a proper about page! There’s no particular order to them, just know there’s spoilers and that’s why it’s under a read-more.

Now that I’m reading over it, a lot of this will actually be helpful for the about page. Whoops. xD

Yes, the ‘B’ stands for ‘Bullet’.

He’s laid back. Years of explosives training has helped him learn how to remain calm under pressure. Even if his ideas aren’t always the best, his (usually) grounded demeanour can help lessen the panic.

It means that he did try to apply for the vacancy of ‘Captain’ when it came up. He lost out, but he isn’t bitter about it.

G.unther's a man who respects authority and the smooth procedure of running any sort of ship. In a default ‘everything is still bad but not the absolute worst scenario’, he does appreciate the Captain and is on good-neutral terms with them. He’s very laid back, and thinks that having a new face at the head of the team might help liven things up amongst the other heads of staff.

While he is the lead of ADS, he is a slightly lower rank than Celci, Mark and Burt (not taking the role of ‘ASSHAT’ into account). If they tell him to stop, he’ll stop.

One big idea I'm liking is that he has a very strong sense of justice. This can be either be because he is Abe recast, or he's a new person with shards of the Detective in his soul (like how I write Damien on b.lueheartedmayor! Click here for a little more info on that). What this means is that if anything happens to link him to Abe somehow, the foundations are already in place.

He comes from a background where truth and integrity matter. If something is foul, he wants it set right. This is why he’s so adamant on accusing the Captain when things go so badly wrong. He doesn’t have the same insight we have, and instead has to rely on hearsay and grounded logic. Since all decisions have to go through the Captain, and the Captain made the final choice, he places the blame on them. Them disappearing due to powers out of their control only shows itself as them abandoning their post in the ship’s time of need.

He doesn’t hate the Captain at this point, it should be noted. If they had passed the role willingly, he would have let them stay and try to help fix things.

Luckily, this hunt wasn’t for naught. Him focusing on the idea of finding a traitor was what kept him sane compared to C.elci and B.urt. He's not in charge of these important systems, he doesn't understand the dangers and risks that are lurking under the surface. But what he DOES know at one stage is that C.elci has made the cyro base room WAY too cold, and B.urt is trying to fuse himself with a computer. How can either of those options help with finding the truth?

This, in turn, inspires the mutiny. If he can outrank Celci and Burt, neither of them will be able to go ahead with their crazy ideas. Gunther doesn't have any solutions on how to fix this, but he is willing to try over and over if it means they can find a way to save the colonists. 

He might be far too proficient with guns, but Gunther isn't trigger happy. Using the mutiny as the example, he aims the gun, but there's never any actual risk. Neither option gets the Captain killed because they can escape. But he's stalling for time and looking for a peaceful resolution, or for the Captain to confess.

He did take a similar approach to Mark with the wormholes. He tried shooting it, then jumped in to try to get a better shot. It didn't work, and the bullets whipped back around to kill him. Unlike Mark and the Captain, however, no doors could be found. He has nothing to do with the problem, and so the wormhole opted to shut him out. When he tried jumping in another time, he was brought through and spat back out.

Gunther is fairly popular. He's not too eccentric, nor is he too boring. He has shared tales of his past to the other crew while they were working together, and is in charge of helping with weapon training. Similarly, others can come to him if they have a problem. Said problem solving might involve pointing a gun at someone until they talk, but it works!

I'm still trying to read up on it, but apparently one can chew cigars. Apparently, one isn't supposed to hold a lit cigar in the mouth. However, it seems an unlit cigar used for chewing tobacco might be a viable alternative? It would also make sense given that a lit cigar could be a danger with all the ammo he deals with.

He tried to teach C.hica how to use a gun. C.elci stopped him almost immediately.

In the early timeline split where they successfully colonise a planet despite losing Mark, he becomes very loyal to the Captain. He's got the gunpower (both weapons and strength) to help with jobs as needed. He oversees the security and defense systems, as well as hunting before the colonists were properly established.

In the other timeline split where they colonise a planet but Mark does everything for the Captain, Gunther keeps his distance. He can see something isn't right but... It's not really his place to step in. Not when there's a chance of an immediate demotion.
