Holy shit this song is so good, if you like alternative rock with a synth-pop overtone, please give it a listen. Absolutely nasty electric guitar motifs in it! Not to mention MOTHICA’s voice is so buttery and delicious 😩

2. “Go for It” by Djo

Joe Kerry has made his way into my heart with his 80’s synth pop swagger ways!!

His new album DECIDE truly is such a work of honest and artistic goodness and has been on repeat for me these days! This song is a good one form the album but admittedly not one of my faves! Can’t wait to get my hands on the vinyl of this incredible album!

3. “I Wish” by Hayley Kiyoko

Oh our lesbian queen Miss Kiyoko 🥰 This song used to get me sooo deep in my gay feels when I first really came to terms with my identity. It is so gentle, so soft, and so bittersweetly honest about the feelings of loneliness that often tags along the existence of being queer 💕

4. “Shukumei” by Official HIGE DANdism

Oh this song is anthemic as FUCK❣️ HIGE always manages to get me imagining myself as the protagonist in the fluffy ending OP of a dark-ass anime sksksks

But seriously, the brass instruments 🎺 + modern synth and mixing 🤖 + Satoshi Fujihara’s light tone & scratchy timber 🎶 = lighthearted, hope-inducing goodness!

5. “Baby” by Relient K

Oh god, the “epilogue” song to the song “Savannah,” is truly a work of art. As a stand-alone song it is brilliant. Alongside its sister song, it truly feels like the beginning of a love that lasts forever. Together they paint a picture of affection and devotion so thankful and honest. It get emotional every time I heart it!

6. “If Only My Heart Could Speak” by Cody Fry

I’m a bit in love with romantic music that make me feel like I’m in a dance sequence in an animated / Disney movie with an orchestra accompaniment!

Cody Fry is soooo brilliant at making backtracks for the movies in my head! The swell, the tenderness, the romance of it all! Ahh!! 💕

7. “A-Yo” by SHINee

Oh my god 🥺 My babies SHINee (all of whom are older than me sksksk). Lucifer is such an iconic KPOP album and one that I feel was part of the greater shift KPOP had in the early 2010s. “A-Yo” is so lightly anthemic and is written and mixed with with hip-hop and R&B influences. So sweet, so nostalgic, and so fresh!! ✨

8. “I Hope of You Think of Me” by Lily Williams

Oh my god this song has been in repeat like no one’s business. The sweetest and softest friends-to-lovers song of the century that I use as the background song to my Steve x Y/N and Eddie x Y/N daydreams 🥰

Lily’s voice is the voice of God’s favorite angel, and twinkle of the brightest star. She is so lovely and so is this song 💕

9. “Just the Girl” by The Click Five

This one is a classic of early 2000’s-boy-band-with-a-guy-pining-so-fucking-hard-over-a-girl-way-out-of-his-league sksksksk

This song was popular for the generation before me but god, I’ve loved it with them since FOREVER. Early 2000’s pop rock is sooooo fun and so nostalgic and so recognizable. One of my all time favorites!!

It also makes for a great gay anthem if sung by a girl 🏳️‍🌈❣️💕🥰✨

10. “Split” by NIKI

This song is sultry and melancholic and has an old Hollywood / winter / holiday vibe! Definitely for the days I need to wallow in a mood 🖤

i'm gonna do this but WITHOUT suburban legends because no 1989 song deserves to be replaced by that mess, sorrrry (i swear im not a hater i just think it's the worst song on the album)

also while i'm here i reordered the whole album hahahha

okayyy so here's my ideal version of 1989 (vaults are underlined)

new romantics - i think this is the ideal album opener, just because wtny isn’t really a well loved song when you take it out of the context of it being the first track of 1989 (even though i like it personally, its on the bottom half of mine and most peoples 1989 rankings) but new romantics still works bc it sounds like a song of new(romantic) beginnings, and its kinda the thesis statement of 1989,, about how the album is supposed to be super free and light hearted (also the intro of this song is so iconic and its perfect as a track 1)

blank space - im kinda trying to do this album somewhat chronologically, but also im trying to get the themes and production to flow,, blank space is a perfect track 2 bc it still sounds like a city track like new romantics, but it also sounds equally beach-y, and those are the 2 aesthetic elements of 1989 so its a good joint album intro. ALSO blank space gives u a good idea of how Taylor was seen at the time, as a dramatic serial-dater or whatever..,,, which leads me into track 4…

“slut!” - like i was saying,, blank space is about how she’s seen, and slut touches on the same topic of being slut shamed, but this time its about what SHE actually feels, and it flips it into being like,, its worth it bc i met this really cool guy aka:

(harry) style(s) - and this is the first sense of like. problems in the album, as in its pretty clear from this song that the mysterious guy she’s dating is not someone that she’s gonna last with,, also it gets us back into the city vibes smoothly bc the rerecord of this song has added sparkles which is reminiscent of the beach songs, but of course style overall is a city song so it flows well

wonderland - this is a perfect track 5 bc its a super emotional song that details the relationship + the breakdown of it, also its a BOP (y’all need to appreciate wonderland more)

out of the woods -🚨 BOP BOP BOP BOP BOP BOP🚨and like most of this albums its a lyrically sad bop and it fits with wonderland and explains the anxiety further

i know places - same purpose as ootw, it explains why the relationship was doomed from the start as its 2 very high profile people

say don’t go - fits chronologically, and talks abt how he didn’t love him back, and all he needed to do was not go,, (as in all he had to do was stay if u know what i mean)

this love - this love came back to me woahohoh (i think this is where it fits chronologically? where mr lover man comes back)

all you had to do was stay - she decided its too late to get back together tho RIP HAHA

shake it off - ngl i put this here bc i think going from the emotional song clean to SHAKE IT OFF is funny, and every ts album needs a jumpscare at some point. but honestly this kinda fits thematically, because its talking about her persona like in blank space, but this time instead of leaning into it she’s shaking it offff and she’s clean (^) from the expectations to be what other people want or expect her to be. also its a fun song and brings up the energy for the home stretch of this longgggggg album

is it over now? - is it ever really over????????? NO (also i would consider this song to be a city and beach song because the AUUU HAAAAAAAAAA parts remind me of seagulls) alsooo if u loop it the ending of this song leads nicely into the intro of new romantics

it actually IS brief okay it's just 40 minutes because there's 11 members to get through 😭 it's from 2021 so it's a little old but i'd say it provides a really good basis for future the boyz exploration! you can get a pretty good feel of each of the 11 members and their little quirks from this video, and it's a good mixture of it being a serious introduction (showing them being good at their job) and unserious (showing them being literally just some guys)

flower snack was like their predebut show where they were officially introduced to the world! they're like super young here and while i wouldn't consider this essential media (esp since they've grown so much since then) i do think it's a good pick-me-up because of how feelgood the show is :") it's definitely cringy at parts and you can tell they still have that trainee air to them, but personality-wise i don't think a lot has changed since then till now :"") they're still a bunch of dorks and some jokes are still mentioned now and then (eric doing watermelon cpr)

speaking of viewing pleasure. this is very reminiscent of the gen z photoshoots but instead of doing video format interviews they decided to do it through written form instead! here is the thread for all the translations, but a few are missing bc their accounts got deleted :( for the members that got deleted, i found hyunjae's, but i can't find jacob's anywhere :( but basically the entire format of the interviews were that the members would write the interview questions for themselves, and then they'd answer them. i think because of this a lot of them have spoken about how much they liked this interview, because it let them reflect on themselves a lot! they were also a lot more comfortable with this interview compared to gen z because gen z was like ,,, their first time every doing something like this, but with byok the combination of having experience and writing their own questions let them be a lot more relaxed in the process ^^

weekly idol eps to watch: stealer era | thrill ride era

the stealer era episode is just soooo ... JWJSADJFL like they start airing out their dirt on national tv (younghoon and sunwoo get the brunt of it) and for a bonus johnny and haechan from nct are special mcs in this ep! the thrill ride era episode is so cute lolll it shows the individual traits of each member so well... like eric is there being a social butterfly and golden retriever right from the start and then juyeon is just being thrown boyfriend material scripts so he can act them out with hyunjae LMAO it's just a total mess but it's very... them. they have a few other weekly idol eps from other eras so you can definitely check them out too, but personally the stealer and thrill ride eras are my favorites to watch and rewatch ^^

dive studio podcasts: kevin | jacob | eric | english line

this is just a lot of fun to watch! they're definitely a lot less serious than the gen z and byok interviews, but they're still a good insight into how the english members came to become a part of tbz! a lot of fandom jokes come from here (mostly about how eric is friends with his friend's dad, jeff) but overall it's just a good time! they are Just some guys /pos.........

there's another original come on the boyz series but i ... haven't watched it yet so 😭 i can't recommend it in good faith BUT the ones on here are stuff i Have watched and they're all very very cute :") tbz are like 1thek's sons HAHA so they have a lot of 1thek variety content but each one obviously has a different concept to it! they're sorta all in the name but personally my favorite is godsaeng :"") maybe cause it was the most recently filmed (and even though eric was still on hiatus during this time :( ) but it's just soooo fun and all the members are so goofy and lame and it just feels like you're watching a bunch of friends go on a 3d2n road trip together 🥹 the members' personalities really come out in all the installments and the editing is just so funny from the 1thek staff LMAO its just a lot of fun <3

honestly my best advice is to watch those edit/compilation videos that fans make on youtube! they're such a good way to get the best highlights from the vlives without wasting your time with like. 1-2 hour long lives HAHA my recommendations for channels to browse through are jellykims, txtbz, and jichangminluvr! you can probably rabbithole through the yt algorithm from there HAHA you'll have lots of fun i promise <3

Reminiscing my first concert experience with One Ok Rock (because I can)

So I've been a fan of One Ok Rock a long time ago, quite around the time when they released The Beginning (I knew it through Rurouni Kenshin Live Action), and I was like 13 then. Around that time, they were touring, and yes, they did come to Malaysia. But I was too young and couldn't attend the concert so yeah, I only saw the concert reports. The venue was very small too, hahah. When I knew that they were touring for Luxury Disease, I was hoping that they would come here and yes, they did. I bought the ticket and attended the concert with my friends who share the same passion!

The concert venue - I was quite far from the stage but thats alright! Hahaha I enjoyed it nonetheless.

This was my first concert I attended in my life and they did not disappoint at all! They opened with Wonder and Taka was dancing cutely on the stage and I was HYPED asf (bcs the opening act was fun too)

Taka looked so good with the platinum blonde and I CANT BELIEVE I SAW MY TEENAGE CRUSH (TORU) LIKE WHEKAGWKAW

Their stage presence was crazy good and one thing I remembered the most was Taka telling the audio staff to increase his mic's volume bcs we (the crowd) was so loud and we were all singing together THROUGHOUT the concert. I love it, really.

My personal favourite would be Let Me Let You Go, I Was King, Clock Strikes, The Beginning, Wherever You Are, Make It Out Alive, and Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer (THE ENCORE WAS SO GOOD I WANNA CRY A LOT)

I enjoyed the concert very much although my voice cracked at the end but it was worth it.

Taka took a rose given by the fan and he was so goofy with it too 😭😭😭.

During the MC, even Taka was lowkey 'impressed' that we waited for 10 years for them to come back here. I'm very thankful that they come here again and one of my dreams was fulfilled <3

This concert was the highlight of my 2023 and honestly they helped me in a lot of ways.

As an old fan, I'm really happy bcs I got Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer as one of the encore songs BCS THE WAY I SCREAMED WHEN I HEARD THE GUITAR SGSJEGSJ INSANEEE

thoughts on map of the soul: 7? 💕

you know, the first time I listened to it there weren't any songs that immediately jumped out at me or easily got stuck in my head. BUT, let me just say, that as I thought about it I realized that listening to this album so far has been very reminiscent of listening to Tear for the first time. When Tear came out, I was finally to the point of regularly listening to a few whole BTS albums front to back (Wings/YNWA & Her), so it was the first time with a BTS release where I listened to the whole thing in one sitting (or drive, as it happened) right when it came out. And honestly, I remember not really "getting" most of the songs on Tear at first. Not that I didn't like them; they're just not the most pop sounding songs and they're not super catchy or ear-wormy, in a way that "DNA" and "Boy With Luv" are, for example. BUT, Tear is now literally my go-to BTS album. It just had to grow on me gradually and become more familiar. I put it on whenever I'm feeling stressed out or can't sleep and it always helps. So it became a very special album to me over time, and after listening to this album a few more times already this weekend, I kind of think this album might be the same....we'll find out!

It's fun to hear all the solos and units (tho also kind of sad in light of what SM said about EXO earlier this week, regarding how the group is going forward as solo and unit projects for the time being due to enlistment; BTS really is strongest as 7). But I'm very excited to see how these songs get staged for the tour! The rap line songs are of course my faves; UGH! is great (reminds me of Sik-K's Cayenne Freestyle); all the rap line solos slap but Ego might be my favorite. Jimin's solo song is of course very Latin-inspired sound and flirty which I love, very excited to see how he delivers that on stage. Tae's song is really uplifting, very different to what his solo songs have been in the past, kind of Hillsong-y (which might make sense bc didn't he once put Hillsong on his Spotify playlist?); Jimin and Tae said the S-word; Zero O Clock and We Are Bulletproof Eternal are going to be songs I won't be able to listen to anymore after seeing them on tour bc it'll be too emotional heh...

I also like the big group numbers/title tracks (ON/Black Swan/Louder Than Bombs), the solo/unit songs are kind of all over the place but the group songs really give this album some cohesion. Again, can't wait to see the promotion tracks from this album get performed in various settings and stages. I will say I was kind of let down by the Sia feature...I was really looking forward to it bc her voice is so unique and bc the Halsey and Nicki Minaj features were so satisfying, but you can barely hear her and honestly the vocal mixing there just sounds messy. Thank goodness it was just a bonus version of the track and not the main track, I guess.

(Also worth noting, BTS have a weird knack for releasing albums during really meaningful moments or transitions in my life, and this time was no different as I've just moved back to the States and my family is going through a lot of things. So it feels like BTS music gets me through everything and I really needed this album in a personal way.)

All in all, I'm excited to listen to this some more and give it time to sink in. I can't wait for the tour and to see what BTS does next in their artistic journey💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

A+ song honestly one of the best she’s ever produced, someone asked me the other day what song I would pick if I had to listen to only one song forever and I picked this one because it’s such a love-gooey music box tinkling soft peaceful song that I could get lost in for eternity… despite being about ricky

Touch It

one of the best vocal performances live she’s ever managed, and this song really transcends to another level and takes you with it. It’s a highly emotive song and although not written by ariana max ect writers were really feelin it and I appreciate that

Leave Me Lonely

can you say underrated? this absolute ballad banger has never been done justice and it’s honestly criminal- sometimes I wish I could find a cover that sings it with the emotion it deserves, she sang it well on tour but it’s a dark gritty sing in a back alleyway with a trenchcoat and sexy cigarette lit type song and deserved a break it never got. I scream this one alone to myself all the time, that bastard ripped my heart out and deserves to be scolded, y’know?

Bad Decisions

listen, this song is junk food. it’s so bad but I can’t help but consume it. She sings about having a fucking ‘hood love’ and only just started getting the blacklash this year like its new. but anyway, like pop off to this club hit bc it’ll rot your insides but you’ll have fun all the way down 

Thinkin Bout You

sexy, masturbation song that sounds fuzzy and warm. it’s soft like the linen i imagine her to be wrapped in and no sharp corners - it’s a good study in the soft intimacy of sexual relationships, it’s one of the better songs about a relationships that isn’t just about dick in hole, and the tour visuals were stunning for it

Greedy

shoulda been the 3rd single for tour - it’s just a good basic pop song with some good unique concepts and the tour money and choreo was iconic, it was the best to watch and looked the most fun to perform. I liked this one a whole lot when it first dropped but probably because i just like good basic pop if a bit repetitive with no real substance 

Sometimes

so light and summery and airy imo. It’s got good vibes and good memories because this was the song she interacted with fans during on tour - it was all about smiles and weightlessness, which obviously is nice to reminisce about now that so much trauma has happened to bring everything down

Side To Side

way too overplayed at this point but it was much higher up my list when it first came out, i always knew this one was gonna smash as a single and it was such a good job scooter came back and pushed it hard, I think it’s another mindless pop song but obviously it went on to be such a good club hit and commercial success which is awesome 

Be Alright

I’ve been up and down with this song a lot, it’s never been my fave but i like the message and it’s meant more in the last couple of years- I like that the choreo is so iconic now and it was her best tour outfit. I like that she likes this one and keeps it up bc it’s very inoffensive to the ears, again a bit overplayed now i never really liked the big instrumentals part of it 

Into You

a lot of people’s fave, a single that almost did it. Again, never my favourite and kinda had the feeling of always a bridesmaid never a bride. It had a good mv but was woefully underpromoted which is a shame. It’s a good song and I like when it comes on now but just never fucked with it when it was around a lot - another basic song with a basic concept and basic delivery tbh 

Knew Better/Forever Boy

good concepts separately but I didn’t think they were good together, they deserved to be separate or not at all. i like the edits of these songs better than the song itself

Dangerous Woman

the reason why we never got the full ‘moonlight’ album that we deserved - it wasn’t great for her voice, severely under-utilizing it, although she makes up for that in performances of this song. It was an interesting sound experiment but none of the rest of the album it’s named after sounded like this- even if it did have some of the only instruments used on it. The mv was fine but boring, and it just didn’t deserve to be the title track, this was the inspo for the quickly dropped latex bunny persona and lots of issues, this song was the driving factor for scooter getting fired that one time ect its just got bad memories and really fucked a lot of shit up for me honestly

Let Me Love You

bad unoriginal title and the feature ruined it, the snippet we got before the album drop was just ariana’s part and the song sounded like it was gonna be soooo good, but then the rap happened. I still think ariana’s bit is good but the song turned out to be a bust, though we got some curls action in the mv which was pretty cool

Everyday

a plague on our senses, this repetitive trash really got made a single for some god awful reason, there’s nothing special about it, the mv was icky (for the blatant sex,  not the diversity that was featured) and i just didn’t ask for any of it I was so pissed when this happened, it wasn’t funny ariana 

I Don’t Care

i’ve had it out for this song since day 1 and i’ve never been able to shake it, are tlic and everyday worse songs? yes, but this remains as my least favourite song in her discography, in order to keep this sort I’ll just say that I have an essay’s worth of reasons why this song is repugnant to me from the sound of the music to the meaning of the lyrics and you can’t change my mind. this one is the worst one and i can’t help the burning rage that sparks when i think of it 

the bonus tracks i wont bother listing and commenting, neither are very good tbh not really worth the time

as an utterly hopeless romantic, i certainly want to. i think because of like … insecurities, self hate and stuff (not to get too deep), it’s a comforting idea to me to like Know that there’s someone out there who doesn’t see me the way i do … but realistically? no. i think you gotta realize that relationships are hard and something you have to work to keep healthy and happy and not as magically problem-solving as soulmate tropes make it out to be. so short answer: realistically no, ideally yes. 

💌- diary or journal?

the one i write in is honestly a mix of both, but i think it’s more of a diary. it’s cathartic to write things out when you don’t wanna talk to someone else about it (or in addition to venting to another person) and for the journal aspect of it, i really like looking back on things i did back in the day. i’ve had a diary/journal hybrid since like 2008-ish? so i love that !

ooh good question …. there’s a lot! i think i see bits of myself in a lot of characters so there isn’t any One (1) person i relate to the most. shaw from person of interest keeps coming to mind but maybe i’ve just absorbed parts of her, rather than actually being like her so who knows . jessica jones is another one, in some aspects. i think just from those two you can tell the Type of character i not only gravitate towards, but relate to too

2) saying and typing ‘like’ a lot. i guess i really AM the valley girl that envi says i sound like ………. tis a sad day. i never really noticed how much i do it till i reread old messages

3) not sitting properly. at school i do it obviously, but at home i most often sit cross legged on chairs or with one leg up or something. gay culture, babey ! the amount of times i’ve been told off for sitting “improperly” or “like a man” .. amazing

~~Arthur said it first  (p sure it’s that way in canon too), and then Gwen would definitely end an argument with that before storming out tearily, leaving Arthur to sit there and curse himself while his heart slowly dies :’( 

8) Who likes to wear the others sweatshirts?~~They both switch sometimes! Arthur’s usually fit her pretty well, a little big but cozy..... and hers just... well let’s say it comes up a little short in all directions, but it always amuses her, so he sticks with it. Plus, her clothes always smell like flowers!

9) Who wakes the other up in the middle of the night to tell them a cool dream they had? Who has the most nightmares, and who sings them back to sleep after?

~~Gwen often dreams of the “old days” when everyone was together and happy, and reminisces about these times with Arthur. Arthur is haunted by nightmares and flashbacks about the final battles, and Gwen sings him back to sleep with the folksy lullabies that the village people knew.  

10) Who is more likely to cheat?

~~Look we all know what happened between Gwen and Lancelot, I love Gwen, but if she didn’t feel secure/cemented in her relationship with Arthur, she’d be prone to wander. Once Arthur proves his devotion to her, however, she’s 100% faithful. 

11) Who makes fun of the other for having a crush on them, and who has to remind them that they are in a relationship?

~~ ooh I honestly don’t know this one, I’ve thought about it for a few minutes and I’m stumped 

12) Who starts a food fight in the kitchen?

~~Arthur plays with his food because he can’t cook worth a damn. He playfully tosses things at Gwen, and she’d pretend to be stern about it, but she would give in pretty quickly. :) 

13) Who initiates duets? and who is the better singer?

~~ Gwen often sings while she works, and what a beautiful voice she has! Arthur would be the one to join in rather obnoxiously, much in the style of a shanty singer at The Rising Sun, but they have a good time. 

14) Who starts the hand holding? Who grabs the others butt? Who slides their arm around their waist? Who likes to put their fingers in the belt loops?

~~ Gwen loves hand-holding... and butt-grabbing. Arthur’s butt is a grab-magnet. Arthur loves putting his arm(s) around his loved ones, and in belt loops.

15) Who likes writes the others name on their wrist?

~~Gwen has a lot of nice drawing pens and will doodle all over wrists and ankles :p 

16) Who is more seductive when they are drunk? and who is louder in bed?

~~ARTHUR FOR BOTH, TO THE HIGHEST DEGREE POSSIBLE

~~Arthur would jump in front of a rampaging boar for Gwen, but Gwen probably has a whole network of people looking out for Arthur when she can’t access him directly, so really it’s both but in different ways? Also, Gwen would kick ass with a sword if necessary

~~Arthur is v mumbly in his sleep 

19) Who drives and who has the window seat?

~~ Gwen drives because she definitely adapted to the modern life a lot quicker than Arthur. He rides shotgun to fiddle with the radio and try to help navigate (fun fact: she probably already knows where she’s going)

20) Who falls asleep in the others lap and who carries them to bed?

~~Gwen often nods off on Arthur and he happily carries her to bed and tucks her in :’)  

21) Who cuts the others hair?

~~ Gwen cuts Arthur’s hair! If Arthur tried to approach Gwen’s hair like that, his hands would get swatted away at lightning speed. #Don’tTouchMyCurls

~~Arthur is really bad at sexting but makes up for it with real-life technique, so.... also, Gwen always sends cute messages throughout the day

~~I don’t like to think about these sad things :(  But I will tell you that in The Once And Future King (by T.A. Barron), Arthur dealt with a lot of insecurity issues and it added so much depth and color to his character. Gwen is always there to reassure him, telling him that no matter the pressures their lives put on them, they will always remember their sweet and humble beginnings.
