I detest how to train your dragon : the hidden world

Nope . Just don't like it. Apart from the animation of toothless and the light fury and the stark contrast to how toothless looked in the first movie and this one .

The plot choices just don't cut it for me , yeah I get the dragons gotta go the hidden world but man it could've been done so much more better without the horrible romantic subplot which honestly had a 10% emotional hold on me ... Like what???

You're using a generic rom-com trope for dragons to give the dragons motive and the story emotion??

You're telling hiccup who spent YeArS trying to uncover the secrets of dragonkind wouldn't in a heartbeat find the hidden world and kick ass to save toothless and keep dragons safe regardless?? We needed toothless and the light fury for what?

I mean wtf wasn't this whole franchise from the fuckin start about fRieNdShIP and bonding between humans and dragons being unbreakable???

bitch please like this entire fandom wasn't here for the soulmatism of hiccup and toothless ... and you decided to sideline that?? Like it's a fuckin sitcom ?? I'm sorry what about my fuckin heart?

You didn't need a romantic subplot between dragons .. nada nothing for the ALL THE PREV MOVIES and A SERIES which were absolutely magnificent and total hits .

But nooooo you gotta pull this crap outta nowhere.

I love httyd with all my heart. Truly my favourite animated movies ever. I have sobbed at every damn ending of the movies. I have watched all of them more timed than I'd like to admit .I will die fighting for it.

But this one ? Nah .

I was looking for the Sandbuster/Deathsong amber scene on Youtube, and watched several RttE clips. And gosh. That hurt. RttE is beautiful. RttE is so well made, and I am telling you that I have honestly not seen anything decent made since the end of the Httyd era. The Httyd franchise is such a good story, and I miss it dearly. Douxie from Wizards was a short glimpse, a quick and sudden spark of something that could have become amazing. But he was gone as fast as he had popped up, and nothing since has been lasting or worthwile. 

I feel spoiled, and privileged to have had 10 years of the best story in the entire world to myself. I admit that I don’t know who I am without it. I want to be part of it. I want to be an animated figure in that world; I want the world to function and abide by the laws of the Barbaric Archipelago. Httyd made life so much easier. It was a clear compass of love that helped navigate so many of my decisions.

I constantly think about Hicctrid’s conversation in Httyd3 about how “everything is going to be a lot harder now”. But then, if it wasn’t true, why did the Httydverse ring such a unique bell within me, making me believe that this is the kind of love the world wants? Httyd made me feel so loved. There must have been some truth to it. It remains the ideal I need to see in the world, even though so much has changed and I feel like a mess since the third movie. I feel very vulnerable. 

I want the kind of stability the Httydverse had. Where you make your own adventures, are guaranteed to win if you just try hard enough, and where luck is on your side. Idk, sickness in the Httydverse for example is mostly self-inflicted/ avoidable. There’s poison, losing limbs due to dragon bites or accidents, and there are sharp blades. There are clear culprits. But there is no inexplicable cancer, or arthritis or sudden shortsightedness or dementia; y’know, stuff that you didn’t do anything to deserve yet still can’t prevent from happening to you. Httyd assumes that you decide the level of danger connected to your fate yourself. There’s more control. Astrid’s unexpected blindness in Blindsided is the one event that broke this in-universe law and tbh I would have liked to explore her dealing with that a bit more. Cuz where’s the hope in staying blind?

Anyway, just thoughts. The Httyd movieverse manages to give a lot of hope and I’ve been missing that. However, like I just explained, it conveniently happens to exclude some of the more dire turns of life that are exactly the downward vortexes stealing mankind’s hope. Anyone can get over Httyd’s problems since they have to do with your own actions and decisions, like, your mindset. However, there are those injustices in real life that prevail and that continue to rob hope because they cannot be fought against by a single person. And as soon as Httyd arrived at those problems in the third movie, it ended. Dayum. 

Just stuff that I’m thinking about.

alright httyd fandom u ready for this: i believe there is a way to bring night furies back from extinction, and httydverse has handed this to us on a silver plate.

what, you may ask?! have i gone mad? it is 2:30 am after all. but NO i tell you, no, here is my proof. this has to do with dawn of new riders, so if you haven’t played it yet, there’s spoilers for it in this post. be warned. so in dawn of new riders, we are introduced to the lovely patch! a chimeragon made by eir stormheart of multiple different dragon parts. for those that haven’t seen him, here’s what he looks like.

adorable, right?! so, one of the crew on dawn of new riders (i BELIEVE. i believe his name is richard hamilton.) mentioned that, if you wanted to get an idea of what dragons were used to make patch, just... look at him, and his abilities. so i did. catch the earflaps and the legs? thing is, yeah. those earflaps could potentially be a light furies but... there’s one too many. and theyre far too... large and pointed to really... plausibly point to that. so here’s a thought: patch has pure night fury dna. eir, who is rumored to be ALIVE at the end of the game, may ALSO have pure night fury DNA.  now without another living night fury, the night lights cannot bring night furies back from extinction. theyd only breed with light furies until the night fury gene was to be wiped out entirely. HOWEVER. if patch were to provide some dna- or if eir herself was to somehow still... HAVE night fury dna... perhaps that could be injected into a nightlight when she becomes pregnant. perhaps, through genetic tests, and enough breeding projects, with night fury DNA... night furies could, indeed, be brought back from extinction.

It was Audrey’s shift to patrol Berk. The master archer was in her dragon form, flying around the island to make sure no intruders were to enter, or to alarm the chief if there were any ships approaching.

She was looking into the distant sea line when she heard a crash. Instantly, she turned to look and swooped down to the source of the sound. She quickly changed from Nadder to human and prepared an arrow, pointing it at the human.

Another hot day on Berk.

It usually snowed for most of the year, but when it gets hot, the island basically becomes a giant frying pan filled with sizzling vikings.

Teira has flying around Berk, trying to catch some air to breeze through her face. Unfortunately, she barely got anything but a blow from the dry weather.

Nothing interesting ever happens around Berk unless Hiccup and his friends were there. She would always look forward to their visits. When they weren’t around, the most exciting thing you could do all day around the village was watch the builder-vikings continue the construction of the dragon racing arena for the entire afternoon.

She lands Raven on the village square and heads for the smithy to continue some of her projects.

and then, finally, Hiccup is cornered

one hand pressed to his side where a blow may have cracked ribs, he draws himself up as Toothless approaches, wisps of gas trailing from the corners of his mouth as he prepares to fire

"Listen, bud." his voice is shaking "Whatever-- whatever happens, you're my best friend. No matter what. And--" he closes his eyes, unwilling to let this monster be the last image he sees of Toothless

hoarsely, brokenly: "I forgive you."

Hiccup's hands are curled tight, tense with anticipation

a scaly black snout jabs into frame, nosing at one

instinctively, his hand uncurls and rubs along the jaw as he opens his eyes

and sees green eyes with squarish pupils

Hiccup's laughing

Toothless grins

Hiccup throws his arms around his best friend's neck

he's crying

i'm crying

you're crying

we're all crying

then other stuff happens idk i haven't thought that far

anyway light furies, as in like the canon light furies and not a total redesign, DO exist in my take on the httydverse but they generally look more like my edit here. i also imagine they actually have like....unique abilities and traits that other fury species don't have instead of basically just being "night furies but worse lol". like i'm still not sure why night furies needed to be able to cloak. it's so unnecessary - like basically nothing would have had to have been changed if they just let toothless have his dumb lightning ability without the cloaking and then wow light furies would actually have an ability unique to them.

Did these traditionally bc it's hard for me do anything more than super quick doodles on the phone nowadays due to various factors + I want to improve my traditional art skills but anyway!!
