That's all I can settle for, blurry pictures of my favorite character. Unfortunately there is no more.
In the meantime, I've already found out who played the role of Todo.
I don't know why he didn't take any photos of this character. So far I have not received any response to my request. He has played a total of four roles in this play. Whether there are only pictures of two of the characters or also of the others, including Todo, I don't know. The actor only posted pictures of the cabin boy and Pokkle.
I would have loved to see this musical, but unfortunately it's only shown in Japan, and if it's going to be on DVD or BD, then it's probably only in Japan.
-The story covers everything up to the end of the Zoldyk arc.
-The costuming is really great, a lot of effort has been put into replicating the original designs. Varied fabrics were used to give a sense of texture and personality. Wigs and makeup are also nicely detailed!
-The acting is really good! When casting was announced I was surprised that all the main cast would be played by male actors lol, but they all embody the characters so well. My favourite of the main four was Shori Kondo as Leorio!
-Projection/sound effects, lighting, and choreography were used very creatively to portray things that might otherwise be difficult to show on stage (for example, the running part of the Hunter Exam). I also enjoyed the use of stage ninjas during certain fighting scenes.
-There are less songs in this than in the previous stage plays, and while they're all enjoyable I would say only one or two are as iconic as the previous songs. While previous stage adaptations have focused on the musical as a medium and added new content in order to make use of the format, I found The Stage focused more on adapting the material fairly faithfully.
-The play is 3 hours long which is relatively standard for a big musical. Some content was cut due to constraints, but it does a good job of keeping the integral parts of the Hunter Exam while not dragging things out too far. The dialogue also helpfully explains some of the things that may have been condensed
I highly recommend purchasing the streaming rental if you're able! There are no subtitles, but if you're familiar enough with HxH, it follows the story close enough that you won't be lost. This type of thing is not usually made available to overseas fans, so I hope it's successful enough that they give this option for The Stage 2 as well!
I heard there's a new HXH musical, 2023, I saw a bunch of clips on YouTube, too bad I'm not in Japan and can't see it on stage LOL, I also can't find a full version of it on YT so I'm waiting for the Blu ray to come out so I can watch it or for someone to illegally post it somewhere LOLOLOL AND HOLY FUCK THROUGH THE CLIPS IVE SEEN, THEY MADE HISOKA SO MUCH MORE CREEPY AND SENSUAL HOLY FUCK LIKE OMFG IM BOUTA SIMP SO HARD I PASS OUT, LIKE IM ALREADY BOUTA HOLY SHIT AAAAHHFFGG ILL POST THE 2 CLIPS I LIKE AFTER THIS ONE
He’s great, I love my little manipulator being bullied for being a creep. I should post my Shalnark headcanons soon like how I did my Chrollo ones. I love the entire Troupe but Shalnark is my favorite leg.
Also wanted to note, this same actor also played Wing in the performance!
Gon and Killua haven't gotten to hug in the actual canon of the manga, but the stage shows and extras related to it do have some hugs between them!
The first scene (the video and first image) are from the first Hunter Stage last year. The next two images are from the one that just ended recently. I think the first one was from backstage or something, and the second was after the musical ended. The main 4 also all hugged after it ended, but I couldn't find any images of that, sadly--just tweets about it.
Anyway, I just thought it was cute they get to hug in this version at least!
It's a shame that there are so few supporting roles like Todo to be found online.
So far this is the only clip from this musical that I could find where I could see at least a little bit of my favorite character.
The website also only lists the main roles or the cast of the most popular characters. It's a pity that there isn't a list of the supporting roles, nor is there more footage of the supporting roles.
On the original Twitter page and on Instagram you can find some photos of the supporting characters...
...only not by Todo, although he can be seen in the piece (far right in the picture/video).
Hunter x Hunter The Stage will be available for streaming for international fans!
Tickets will be available until March 15, 2024 for ¥1,980. You have 7 days after you first press play to watch the video as many times as you'd like. Since it's a recording rather than a live stream, you can pause the video and pick up where you left off. Unfortunately there are no subtitles.
