do you ever think about how hardwon, when he finds his strength and chooses to step up and fight, thinks of his family and friends.
Transcript:
Murph: Hardwon, what do you think in this moment? Jake: Hardwon thinks about the family that he chose, his brothers and sisters standing next to him. And he thinks about… the-- the adventurers that came before them, and… the choices that they made that fucked up the world. And he thinks: No matter what happens, I'm just gonna remember this moment, and know that we all went into this with the best intentions. And no matter what anybody chooses from now on, it's with love in their heart. Murph: That is your turn. Jake: Okay. As Hardwon, you know, watches Cobb retreat, he realizes that… he listened to himself instead of his friends. Moonshine and Bev asked him not to go. Jaina asked him not to go. And now he found out that Ol' Cobb had asked him not to go. And… he realizes that the only thing he can do is to keep on fighting, just like the generations and the generations before.

hello my dear mutual i cannot add it to the tournament now but what was the straightbait couple you would've submitted
Hello beloved mutual! It was Hardwon Surefoot and Moonshine Cybin aka HardShine from Not Another DND Podcast. They are some of the biggest straight bait I have ever seen. I technically haven’t finished the podcast yet (have 5 eps left) but, I know they don’t get together. However!!! There is SO much joking flirting between them and the chemistry is THERE. There are three things that stick out for me though. Two require a bit of context (so please pardon the rambling below lmao)
First, the one that doesn’t need much context, is just how the party’s relationship is structured. It’s Hardwon, Moonshine, and Beverly. Beverly is a 15/16 year old boyscout and pretty early on Moonshine and Hardwon step into parental roles for him as they travel. Not like full on mom and dad, but it’s *enough* and I’m not trying to enforce like a nuclear family view of found family at all (because that’s what they are) but idk just how they act as a tag team in keeping Bev’s goofs and antics under wraps really gets me
Next, there’s a part in the campaign where (due to dnd plane shifting and time dilation stuff) the party reunites with some old friends who have aged, like, 40 years since they last say them. These two have gotten married and have two kids. One is named Beverlin which is putting together the names of Beverly and his canonical boyfriend Erlin. The other is Moonwon, aka smashing together Hardwon and Moonshine (I fully believe this kid’s name would have been Hardshine aka their ship name if Beverly hadn’t already named his sword Hardshine after the two of them). Just, there’s something there with naming the kids after these two ships that makes me go a little crazy
Finally, the characters these guys parallel also have a romantic connection, probably reciprocal but at least canonically one sided. The conceit for this campaign is that the world was already saved by legendary heroes years ago. And as you go on you get to see how each character of our party members parallels one of these heroes. For Hardwon, his counterpart is Ulfgar and Moonshine’s is Alanis. Ulfgar is very clearly in love with Alanis when we see them interact and idk if anything comes of this for them (once again haven’t finished the podcast) but it’s just very reminiscent of Hardwon and Moonshine could be.
This is utter word vomit rn and probably makes NO sense but yeah basically….. HardShine is my non-canon straight ship of choice now lol. Thanks for letting me share, I have been rotating them in my mind with incoherent thoughts for a little bit now

The gal Moonshine
How I feel about this character
I. Moonshine is my favorite character of all time with the theoretical possible exception of Tiffany Aching I love her so much I cried the vast majority of the time I was writing my most recent fic I am, like. Not capable of putting the emotions I have about Moonshine into words.
She’s selfless to the point of self-destruction and I think exploring that as a flaw, especially in the only woman in the party, is so smart and interesting and Emily Axford is a genius. The way she balances learning new things with staying connected to the Crick and its people makes me cry every time it’s brought up. The specific experience of deeply, entirely loving your home and your culture and your people but also not feeling like you fully belong there and not knowing why or what’s wrong with you for it. The willingness to take care of anyone who needs to be taken care of. How powerful she is. The way her walls are built so high and so strong that no one even knows she has them.
I can’t, like. My friend told me I was like her once when I was talking about the “things that don’t belong always find a way of belonging when you’re around” scene and I almost burst into tears because being like Moonshine is the best I could possibly be
All the people I ship romantically with this character
Alanis! I also think Jaina would be neat and good! But mostly Alanis just because The Parallels Of It All
My non-romantic OTP for this character
Hardwon, for reasons already discussed in his version of this ask.
My unpopular opinion about this character
She’s “chaotic” in that she grew up in an essentially anarchist society and continues to believe in those ideals but she’s not “chaotic” in the way that people are constantly reducing Emily’s playstyle to she’s clearly meticulously thought out on all kinds of different levels can we please stop reducing women to one single, nonthreatening character trait. Also she’s Jewish because the Crick is Jewish.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.
I don’t want her to end up queen of Hell for obvious reasons but I also don’t want Hardwon and Bev to convince her to stay because they need her, because she’s spent her whole life only doing things that other people need. I want them to convince her to stay because she needs them and she’s allowed to need things and act on those needs

Your tags mentioned that you were worried about Thaila having a different plan than just using Bev to betray his friends. What if her plan is to sacrifice/torture Bev to the point the Pelor intervenes so that she can capture/fight Pelor and take his god heart because Bev is totally favored by Pelor looking at everything he has accomplished thru prayer like sending the green Knights to the fae wild, giving hardwon another choice for reincarnation, resisting Akarot, saving his dad, etc
ooooh that's dark. I think it's probably too dark to actually happen in canon--i bet she won't physically hurt them beyond maybe what's needed to scare them (wow i HATE typing that sentence).
But the idea that she might be using Bev and Erlin to somehow get to Pelor is very possible. She sent Maz to grab Bev in particular--and although all of us are wise to the narrative parallels, Thiala has no reason to have more beef with Bev than any of the rest of the BoB. Could be she thinks he's the easiest to control, but i suspect it has to do somehow with Pelor. Getting a second divine heart would probably boost her power enough to let her take out any threats no problem, and from what we know of her personality and motivations, I bet she'd love to go toe to toe with Pelor. Maybe she's going to make Bev and Erlin call out to Pelor, maybe she needs the amulet for some reason (I kind of hope it's this one just because we got the amulet SO early in the story, I love the idea of it being more important than we ever thought), maybe she is hoping that putting them in danger will be enough to get Pelor's attention. I don't know what she's planning but I'm equally terrified and excited to find out.
(also, if this IS the route it ends up taking, I DESPERATELY hope the Dusk Mother gets involved somehow. Thiala's got no idea she grabbed a paladin with TWO gods. She might have bitten off more than she can chew.)

How I first got into it: i might have said this before, but i believe i first heard about it from mcelboycontent? i was super hesitant to start a new long podcast but by the time they started discussing dragon genitalia i was hooked and by the time hardwon said “i’m not buying these fucking guys beer” i was in love
Everything I ship: beverlin is 👌and while ship is a strong word, sometimes i remember when jovyre hit on moonshine at the wrong time and i think about what could have been
My favourite platonic relationship(s): hardwon, moonshine, and beverly bc like. of course !! i gotta!! i also love the way bev and erlin interact with egwene and how she really looks out for the two of them, also the little friendship between moonshine and ulfgar.....wrestling buddies
Top 3 Characters: hardwon, moonshine, and beverly, no question
One of my favourite scenes: theres too many amazing scenes to list but in the crick arc when moonshine gaseous forms and saves hardwon from the mouth of the snake? and how hardwon returns the favor in the frostwind arc and saves moonshine from the mouth of yanoba with a natural fucking 20? the parallels. the love. the predator handshakes. *chefs kiss* mwah
Links to three fan works I like: there’s so much wonderful fan content for this podcast that i’m probably forgetting something cool, but from off the top of my head, this is probably favorite moonshine design, it’s so unique and adorable! and this has one of those really pleasant artstyles that just makes my heart sing! and this post is just. extremely good and well written and makes me love the characters even more. theres so much more i want to put here. everyone who makes content in this fandom is so talented bro im going to cry
Favourite Fandom meme/inside joke: its not really a meme ig but my lesbian heart appreciates every galaxy brain ship that people post about featuring moonshine and literally any woman. bless

a while ago i saw a post by @sideblogdotjpeg about how the cycles in c3 seem a lot more personal/familial. and i kind of went insane in the tags at the time and i’ve been thinking about it a lot since because like…
you have the heroic cycles that the band of boobs parallel/break on this large scale. the idea of these broken trios of adventurers is there throughout the campaign, but they really start to engage with it towards the end— with the divine hearts, and thiala, and the wheel of suffering/wheel of joy idea. the thing hardwon says as he takes the divine heart, that no matter what anybody chooses from then on it’s with love in their hearts, i feel is very relevant to how they break the cycle. they love each other, and they choose over and over to hold each other tighter rather than be driven apart.
and on the other hand, you have duck team’s refusal of fate vs their family’s resignation to it. look at swag working with mothership, oliana’s contrition, and the stuff that is currently ongoing with gowan. you know— sol is a version of swag who fully rejected mothership and found his friends instead. callie refused to be a part of her family’s business, and her love for the wild and the serpents is giving the world a chance. calder, when he makes the deal with ultrus, telling callie and sol that he trusts them to save him. and now calder is refusing to sit back and let gowan handle things in the ice knife.
it's not that duck team aren't trying to save the world. they are. and it's not that the boobs didn't have a personal connection to the cycles they were breaking. they did. but it's like... well... how do i put this into words. right--
the song melora's boon plays when the boobs arrive at the heart of the world and speak to melora. when she talks to beverly about duty, shows him the places he faltered and how at the last second, he gets back up. (later, when they face thiala, bev doesn't go unconscious once. at one point, he's the only one standing.) for sol, this is the song that plays when he expresses his fear of going down again. when he admits to callie that he's scared of the day that she and calder are down and he's the one that needs to stand up alone. when callie says she's not afraid of that day, and sol finds himself empowered by the mushroom in his chest. the moment that sets up sol's long death monk ability, where he's able to refuse to go down and keep on fighting.
melora’s boon is also the song that plays for moonshine’s boon at the heart of the world. there are actually two songs in this scene, hardwon’s is different, and the transition back happens when melora says there’s a part of herself that moonshine hasn’t embraced. when she speaks to moonshine leading her people to a better future like an alpha wolf leading her pack. for callie, it plays when she tells hardwon and sol that she’s a liability and she needs to change— to embrace winter— in order to get calder back, even as they reassure her that she doesn’t. it also plays when callie asks the others to help her protect honeysuckle while he’s weakened. when they promise to lead honeysuckle home and free him from his connections to gromdal.
the writing on the wall plays when the boobs reach the court of gods. there's the wall of prayers there, and they hear the prayers of the people of bahumia, reaching out to them. prayers of protection-- for and by them. prayers that put the future of bahumia in their hands. for callie, this is the song that plays when she sees aryox's carving of her reaching the cave. when she realizes her mother acted the way she did because she could see what was coming in the future. when she realizes her mother was leaving the world in her hands.
the songs that the boobs first encounter at the end— when they’re basically demigods stepping up to face thiala— return for duck team in these personal moments. when sol finds the strength to refuse death. when callie talks about embracing winter, her mother’s season, something she eventually finds strength in, to save her friend. when callie asks the others to help honeysuckle, one of the serpents that she’s promised to protect partially due to the harm her family caused to the wild. and when callie realizes her mother saw the future and acted as she did because of it, pushing callie to walk the path she’s walking now.
anyway. this was a post about naddpod music.
