i think when ppl talk about rhaenyra having a birthright they don't actually know what means. if that was true for rhaenyra she would have been her father's heir from the time she was born. but i kinda get why someone would use those words but that sort of language is a lot more convincing than "claim."

also rhae being 8 in the text when she's named princess of dragonstone versus 14 in the show- what kind of difference do you think there was, in terms of emotional impact on her? idk if that makes sense, lol. like book rhaenyra probably can't remember a time that she wasn't first in line to the throne, whereas tv rhaenyra can remember because for almost the first 15 years of her life she wasn't viserys' heir

Technically, Rhaenyra did have a "birthright" to the throne when she was born, but that was because she was the only (living) child. As soon as a living brother of hers was born, her birthright was to be second in line, after him. Of course, as soon as he died, she reverted back to being first in line. Until Aegon was born.

I think the age difference is really interesting in that regard, because the older Rhaenyra is, the better chance she has of understanding that dynamic and internalising it. Like you said, if she is named heir at 8, it's easier for her to forget that she wasn't always no1. But maybe it's also a little more, IDK the right term for this, maybe honest? For Viserys? In the books, he's 20 years old when she is born and 28 when he names her heir. Certainly, no one would have considered him at the end of his heir-making career, yet he still insisted on Rhaenyra. Whereas in the show, he is much older - his actor is a 50 year-old-man. Not to say he couldn't still sire children, but deciding on Rhaenyra when both of them(!) were so young is a detail that maybe someone writing an adaptation could focus on as evidence of true belief in her (if incompetent politicking).

Of course, a lot of this can just be attributed to GRRM's typical bad maths or attempt to force through as many events as possible within a tight timeline - which would explain why everyone is so young all the time.

Anyway, back to Rhaenyra, I think they did explore that a little, as they did give Rhaenyra lines to that extent - how Viserys always wanted a son, not her, how her mother died trying to fulfill Viserys' wish (and ultimately downgrade her in the line of succession), how Viserys intends to replace her with Alicent's son, etc. It's a very fucked up idea to ultimately wish for your replacement just so your mother could get a respite from the pain. NGL - that was a very compelling conflict point that made young!Rhaenyra sympathetic. Unfortunately, it went completely away with her adult self, which they sanitised into this blank canvas and stripped of most personality traits that she resembles a YA novel heroine.

Looking back, I wonder if it were not better to skip the last time jump altogether and just end the 10-episode season at Driftmark. They could have included 3 extra episodes to bridge the divide between young! and adult!Rhaenyra and explore some of the ways in which she ultimately found the position of heir dissatisfying. Which, again, could have been an interesting character exploration. Imagine finally getting the recognition that you wanted only to discover that you greatly dislike all the restrictions that come with that recognition and you become so cantankerous and disparaging of it that you end up wishing you never named heir in the first place, all the while living as if you have no responsibilities.

I feel obligated to share with y'all how devastated my mother was after watching season 2 and her commentary of E6 (photographic evidence included, shared with her permission).

OBVIOUSLY, SPOILERS AHEAD. ONLY CONTINUE IF YOU DON'T MIND THEM.

Now, first of all, let's set the scene:

Even though I warned her AND she received like 15 minutes worth of voice notes of me crying violently after the first time I watched it, she told me: 'I think it's not going to be THAT bad, you're probably just too sensitive because you love them so much. In the voice notes you scream like you're being murdered tho'.

SHE WAS WRONG.

(except for the murder-victim-like screams)

She had a lot to say while watching and loved it for the most part, a whole lot more than the first season (in fact, she only sat through S1 because the ineffable husbands' chemistry and maybe just enough insistence to drive anyone mad from my part). At the end of E5 she screamed 'WHERE'S THE KISS?' (showed her the EVERY leak when I got spoiled).

I couldn't retain my tears anymore when the ineffable bureaucracy part started. She looked at me weird and asked why a happy part made me sad.

Then it all started to go down and I could see the joy slowly draining out of her face. She started crying when Crowley wasn't happy about Heaven's offer.

The kiss gave her hope, Azi doubting and Crowley waiting until last minute too. And like every one of us, had a little bit of hope in her eyes until both Crowley and Azi faded on the credits, sobbing by that point.

The very first thing that came out of her mouth was: 'FUCK, I WISH I COULD SPEAK ENGLISH TO SAY A THING OR TWO TO THAT AUTHOR' (she can't pronounce Neil's name). Then: 'WHY WOULD THEY DO THAT!?' was repeated like a hundred times.

After I calmed down, I gave her a brief explanation and general review of the husbands' actions during both seasons with some of the new context S2 gave us. Then, she said almost the very same thing I told her when first watching: 'I can't even complain about bad writing because it makes sense. It hurts more because it makes sense'. A very rare but appreciated moment of agreement between us indeed... after that she cursed me a lot for making her suffer with me LMFAO.

Anyway, all that to say @neil-gaiman made my mother sob.

I hope you enjoyed me knowingly traumatizing my mother with GO2. My best friend is next in line.

Please may I have a Blue exorcist headcanon of Rin Okumura with a female childhood friend who is exactly like Winry Rockbell from Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood..she certainly wasn't girly and she trained as an exorcist when she was 7 and became a Senior exorcist at the age of 13 and she was a teacher by the time she is 15 and she had a Meister as a Dragoon user and Doctor. She was raised by her grandmother after her parents died in the line of duty when she was 6. She is immune to blue flames. Herself and Rin do often bicker like an old married couple..or she would hit him with her wrench.

At 6 you went to live with your grandmother, which had a little nice apartment close to a church.

This is how you became closer with the Okumura brothers, Father Fujimoto and the other Exorcists of the church.

A week before your 7th birthday you got into an incident with a minor demon, nothing too serious but Fujimoto decided to start training you along with Yukio to become Exorcists.

will try to make you be more "ladylike" but fails everytime. He wants to buy you a new doll? You ask him to get you the new Transformer; he wants you to wear a dress? You rip them apart so you don't have to wear them

Jealous dad mode if you hinted to have a crush on a boy you met at the park or if you joked one of the teachers was better than him.

Sleepovers at theirs because he wants to read you three a goodnight story. Again impossible to say no.

Tells Rin and Yukio to protect you even though you can handle it. For him is their mission to keep you save (spoilers you keep them out of trouble)

Breakfast is his favorite time of the day because he loves domestic bs with his three kids.

Makes your favorite, if one of the twins hate it even better (most of the times is Rin the one who complains)

Proud of you and Yukio when you became Senior Exorcists at 13. Celebrated by taking you two outside at his favorite restaurant.

Tried to make you drink some sake because “you are old enough.”

Got you a notebook for you to write down everything you need.

When you become a teacher he might have or have not shred some tears.

Is he very shy with you at first but opens up after a while

When you start training as Exorcists would 100% leave sticky notes on your front door wishing you a good day when he wakes up before you

always asks you how training went during dinner

He is the one starting a fight between you and Rin because every time you deny liking each other he would use the "you act like a married couple" proof

She has started both qualifiers and friendlies. Magda was exstatic about Falk's performance in the post match press conference after the April friendly vs USA right before Tokyo Olympics. While Z didn't look stable at all in the away qualifier vs Iceland. Iirc afterwards in the home qualifier vs Iceland Peter started Falk instead.

"Yes, but IMO Z is more stable than Falk. Falk played for Häcken. They rarely reached the CL. Z played in the CL. This is what I mean with more experienced. Chelsea is with all respect on a higher level."

That's a weird comparison for the reasons Amy has already said. Falk did world class saves against Bayern and Lyon. You also can't judge from old performances as both players and teams develop all the time. Did you happen to miss the pre season friendly this year against Wolfsburg how good Häcken did? That another aspect you have to consider when talking about Swedish teams in CL if they're in season or not since Sweden has a summer league.

Z has been started in Chelsea's CL games against the weaker sides. The exception was against Wolfsburg when AKB wasn't available and we know Z couldn't avoid a big scoreline defeat and do miracle saves when needed to save the day for the sickness ridden squad of Chelsea worrywarts.

You don't follow Damallsvenskan closely it's very evident. Falk gets challenged more often by teams in top 7 and occasionally by teams below top 7, than Chelsea gets challenged by the top 3 teams as WSL do not have the same parity from top to bottom. You do the mistake of gauging a league based on CL when the only thing CL measures is the strength correlation between the top teams across leagues. It doesn't measure league strenght. If CL was measuring league strength then D1 would've been considered the strongest league in Europe when Lyon dominated last decade. It wasn't. Other leagues were considered stronger, among them Frauen Bundesliga and Damallsvenskan.

Falk has kept 12 clean sheets of 15 possible this far this season with 11 rounds to go.

yea Falk has had a really solid season so far and I think that's definitely going to play a part in Peters decision of who is gonna get the nod for starting in the World Cup. He's given her that trust in the euros and in the Olympics during group games and my opinion if she hadn't had a kid laid last year I say she would have been starting those games over Z

Todoroki x male reader- Caramel and Honey

Fluff + Au where todoroki rebelled and never became a hero

Todoroki hummed to himself laying out the ingredients in front of him with his mixing bowl in the centre of the counter top, the mix of ingredients in organised lines from first to last except he was missing one ingredient.

It was soon to be your birthday, and todoroki being the gentleman as always was desperate to make you a cake as his local supplier. You deserved it for the kind smile you wore dropping of his orders at the back of the shop and hovering around for a few minutes to talk before disappearing into the wind again driving away in your van with (y/ln) Produce, stamped on the side of the van in big, black cursive.

He took over the shop from his mothers side of the family before she fell ill and had to go to hospital. not wanting anything to do with his disgusting father he chose to stay and manage the store of light pinks and pure whites. He heard your tires pulling up outside on the gravelly path and he opened the door for you to drop off your produce inside on the counters by the door.

"Hey Roki! How's it hanging, making anything special today?" you asked hauling a crate of freshly picked fruit for the season in and dropping it onto the steel top, wiggling under the weight and scooting forward a millimeter. "What do you consider special?" he asked bluntly helping you carry the boxes into the kitchen and put the items in their respective places.

Finally you brought in the cardboard box layered in bubble wrap filled with decorative jars of golden honey pockets of air suspended in the viscous liquid and Todoroki nodded happily in receiving everything he asked for. Sometimes you'd forget the blueberries, or the tea leaves or the bananas grown specially by your quirk. You grabbed a glass of honey flicking the lid open and dipped your finger into the glossy amber tasting it yourself.

"Something special? I would love a rustic honey cake. Just the way mum used to make it with our honey. Not the dumb store bought stuff, the stuff we make ourselves. With the bee's we lovingly care for, for a reason!" you shout but it was muffled by you sucking the honey off of your finger.

Todoroki wiped his chin and cleared his throat "you've got some... there's uh... like a little" you looked up at him and touched your chin the sticky threads of honey clinging to your hand. "Shit" you tutted and wiped it away with the heel of your hand getting that just as sticky as the rest of you. "Well this is embarrassing" you sighed and todoroki exhaled quickly, which was close enough to a laugh to make you smile. "Here" he ran a tea towel under the warm tap and wiped it over your chin and pressed it into your hand for you to clean your hands yourself.

He felt his own face light up red and grabbed a cup of blueberries in preparation for the blueberry muffins he would bake today and you blinked a few time's rebooting your brain after the short interaction making you flustered.

You wiped your hands down and neatly folded the towel over the side of the sink and shook your head clearing the busy, buzzing thoughts from your head and drew your eye's away from him focusing on the calendar hanging next to the wall. Delivery, nothing, delivery, nothing, delivery + (y/n) Birthday. You grinned and pointed to the red circle around the familiar number on the calendar and twisted your neck to watch him stir ingredients together into a pale yellow batter.

"You remember my birthday?" you quizzed and he nodded furiously beating the whisked eggs into the mixture and poured in the cup of indigo berries fresh from the bush. "Hey are you busy right now?" Todoroki asked moving on from the topic of your birthday and lifted his eyes from your strong arms he'd seen carry so many boxes of fruit, to your joy filled (e/c) orbs sparkling happily at the prospect of him. HIM. remembering your birthday.

"I can be not busy?" you raise your palms to the popcorn roof and flick out your phone calling a coworker. "Hey Bro, could you perchance come get the van from the Todoroki Bakery and deliver the rest of the products?" you ask and pushed the phone to your ear with your shoulder and mouthed 'frozen fruit' to todoroki and you quirked an eyebrow. He nodded to the bottom drawer.

"No I dropped a crate on my foot carrying the peaches into the shop and It hurts to walk on it I dunno how driving would go" you chuckle nervously and wink to todoroki who just looked back down at his muffins filling the white, paper cases not quite understanding. "No, I know it's so unlike me! But it's okay, Todoroki said he'd give me a lift home but can you just do the rest of the rounds?"

Your brother agreed and you said your bye's on the phone. "I now have the entire day off" you said proudly and leaned your elbows on the counter admiring todoroki's fluffy hair straying further from the style it was originally in while he pushed the baking tray into the oven. "Wait but I should check your foot if you hurt it" he said crouching down and pressing his cold hands against your ankle making you flinch "no I didn't really hurt my foot I just needed to get out of work" you chuckle.

"Oh okay. Will your dad believe that, aren't you supposed to be the big strong son?" Todoroki craned his neck up to look at you still resting with one knee on the floor and the other pulled up like he was going to propose. You lost yourself in your thoughts again imagining that instead of his hand on your foot he was holding out a small grey box with a gleaming band tucked into the cushion.

"Hey what the fuck is this?" your brother laughed at the scene in the kitchen and you whipped your head up to see him leaning against the door frame uncaringly. "Uhh todoroki was checking if my foot was swollen or anything. No evidence of broken bones yet! So you should just get going with the van here are my keys!!" you said hopping over like a professional actor and shoved the keys into his hand. "Mhm i'm sure that's what it was. OUTSIDE!" he shouted at you pulling you round the corner clipping your arm on the wooden pallets leaning against the wall out back scraping up inside your elbow.

"Hey what the hell, that hurt!" you shouted lightly tapping the bleeding scratched that didn't seem to want to stop bleeding. "Look I know you like that todoroki kid but you can't just skip work to spend the day with him!" your brother turned around and looked at your face, mouth agape and eye's furrowed into annoyance and he shrugged "what i'm just being hon-" "ARE YOU BLIND OR STUPID!?" you shouted back thrusting your profusely bleeding forearm in his face.

"Oh shit what! are you feeling okay?" he panicked suddenly drawing Todoroki's attention and he poked his head out the back door. Being the observant boy he was, his eyes went wide and he jogged over to where you were standing and wiped the blood away with the already honey covered tea towel but the crimson immediately started pouring out again. "He needs an ambulance" the dual haired baker tightly wrapped the tea towel around your arm which was quickly soaked in red.

You moaned in pain and annoyance feeling your head spin. "What could he have cut his arm on?" your brother asked and you held your hand out in front of his face snapping your fingers closed against your thumb shutting him up. "There's a huge fucking rusty nail... on the pallet you dragged me past you dickhead" you huffed. The ground span and swayed around you and the brightness in your vision was turned down so you could barely see the outlines of the boys surrounding you.

And then you were on the floor.

The baker smiled and finally started working on his surprise for you chopping his toppings and thinly slicing/ throwing away his toasted pistachios and crunching on a few raisins while working.

At 2pm he walked in and went to visit you with his surprise balancing carefully in your hand. He carefully tiptoed to your bedside and pushed your side slightly. You snorted and rolled over, opening your eye's to an amused todoroki settling himself into the chair next to your bed. "Something smells great" you muttered pushing your face back into the pillow and smiling. "Thank you for visiting" you muffled and todoroki chuckled nodding.

"Happy birthday" he smiled pulling the foil off of the top of your surprise. You peaked your eyes open and sat up smiling brightly. "I didn't know how your mum made it but I made my own recipe" he scratched the back of his head and moved to sit next to you on the mattress. He wrapped his arm around your shoulder and kissed your cheek lightly before you could take off the handheld slice you were slowly lifting to your mouth.

"My heart feels weird around you" he sighed and thumped his forehead against your shoulder and you snickered, taking a soft bite of the sticky, nostalgic cake in your grasp. "I know. Thank you for the little updates by the way, very sweet of you" you emphasised the sweet as a pun on the honey cake but of course, it flew over todoroki's head. "But yeah. Thank you for the cake it's delicious" you complimented and leaned your head on his. "Can I go back to sleep now?" you joked and he smiled and pressed you down by your hard chest and lay on top of you. "Just don't sleep for 4 days again" he mumbled nestling into your t'shirt.

You stared down at the parting in his hair with huge, round eye's and put your hands on his back, grasping them together in a hug-ish type thing. "Okay"

yeah i do think so! so i think they tried to emulate hlitf (and mpd maybe? i’m not familiar enough with mpd to be able to say). in thinking about rmd and its future (in response to another ask which i’m still working on bc i lost my whole essay the other day lmao), i kind of theorise that they wanted rmd to be the next Big Title with a full lineup of “ensemble cast” type characters, instructor-student type dynamic (which can then ‘progress’ to colleague level), lots of lore/backstory, potential for lots of substories. the backlash against love choice has been strong in both japanese and international fandom as far as i know so i really think that was a big hindrance in terms of drumming up success for a title that is set up to have a LOT of content. hlitf has always had a leg up bc from the start, it rode off the success of msb and the demand for more public safety content, which is why right from the very start, they tried to push crossovers with hlitf/mpd. the very first rmd substory is a takado/kirisawa crossover, and then they had that extremely gratuitous cameo in ayumu (aka voltage’s king) season 3 in both the ms AND his pov. they keep pushing these crossovers, like with the vip room event which just came to love 365.

ANYWAY, the more i think about it, the more i’m convinced that they’re trying to emulate some of the successes of hlitf, so i find it a pretty useful point of comparison to see the things which i find are lacking in rmd.

so yes i definitely think that i wish the rmd mc was more vulnerable and maybe more romantically inclined and just generally more emotionally mature? i’ve said i wish she made more mistakes but i when i think about it more, i do see some parallels between dr mc and hlitf season 1 mc in that they go into a new learning environment with a certain set of values that get challenged. so i am willing to acquiesce on that point i’ve made before about her errors, since i do think that her values and the choices she makes because of those values get called into question (coming off the back of reading matsunaga’s routes, i do see this happen). also i’ve said this before but just to reiterate, i do also think that there’s a tone shift in the translation that to my perception (re-?)characterises the mc as being blase which i feel comes at the expense of genuine emotional connection between the reader and the heroine. however, i do also think that this tone perception thing is very subjective bc it reads as being quite american to me which is something that (1) is foreign to me as a non-american and (2) gives me a feeling of incongruence bc i’m very aware that this is japanese media. either way, i think in a long form title, there is potential for her to grow/develop when it comes to emotional maturity and romantic development, which leads me to my second point...

ANYWAY, the biggest (writing) issue that i find with rmd is its lack of romance FOR SUCH A LONG ROUTE. generally the main point of otome games is the romantic aspect, which i find to be super lacking in a game where romance is literally right there in the title. so one of my favourite things about hlitf is that we have the whole “meeting him” route before the “falling in love” route, and that generally each season is split into two halves in which the first half feels complete as a route on its own, but its strengths in setting up plot and character/relationship development become highlighted in the second half of the season (i know i talk about this a lot but kaga’s season 2 is the PRIME example of this). hlitf’s “meeting him” stories all tend to have abysmal ratings (which.... i pretend i do not see it) because of people not getting that they’re just introducing the characters and setting up their dynamic first. because of this, we essentially get a (relatively) slow burn romance that takes 20 chapters (or in tsugaru’s case.... 60 chapters lmao, or we’ll say 30 bc he has shorter chapters) to get to fruition.

so romance md has 30 chapters to get the job done, which SHOULD mean that there should be better pacing to get to the relationship stage, right? rmd does a similar thing to hlitf’s split routes where there’s generally one “introductory” case which introduces a moral dilemma, which then ties into a second case. in hlitf, the introductory case in ms1 serves to introduce us to the love interest’s personality and way of working as well as helping the two characters become closer by spending more time together. then it links to ms2 in that it tends to lead into wider criminal activity that may or may not be related to the love interest’s primary negative characteristics, and most importantly, the mc is instrumental in helping the LI overcome that issue (e.g. goto’s paranoia about losing colleagues/partners, kaga’s problems with internal corruption within the NPA, soma’s trust issues and devaluing of those around him, ayumu’s unrequited love). so let’s say that a full rmd route is equivalent to ms1+ms2 in hlitf.

rmd does a very similar thing in terms of plot structure with the main difference being that the medical cases tend to align explicitly with the LIs’ traumatic pasts, where in hlitf it’s a bit more indirect (only goto and soma have had their primary vengeance arcs complete). so why does the pacing feel so off? i think that the reason for that is that there is just so little energy put into romantic development. one thing to note is that the mc has already fallen by episode 10 of ms1, i.e. halfway through the ‘full’ route. the only rmd route that i’ve read where the mc has already caught feelings at that point is hosho’s route, where she realises in chapter 15 (which is why i did write in my review that i thought the pacing was better). secondly, it’s a LOT harder in rmd to see not just the mc’s feelings developing, but the progression of the love interest’s feelings. imo this is because they basically treat her uhhhh the same from start to finish??? she runs her mouth from day one and even during very intimate conversations, so i feel like there is no sense of increasing emotional closeness - it’s more just that we (the third person reader) get to know more about the love interest’s past and i guess we see them becoming friends? rather than seeing two people growing closer with romantic attraction. contrast this with hlitf, where they were never ‘friendly’ and the relationship that starts blossoming between them was always overtly special and romantic relationship and the way in which the love interest softens for his mc is already evident by the end of ms1. this means that we get a whole 10 more chapters for this development to really take its time to get to where it needs to go. this also means that we actually see obvious burgeoning attraction (or special treatment) before we get to any sort of climax confession scene. i feel like the mc’s lack of manners/impertinence familiarity with the LIs from the very start means that it’s a lot harder to see the dynamic between the two of them changing. just compare the way that dr mc and takado talk to each other in ch1 and ch29 vs the way that hlitf mc and kaga talk to each other in ms1 ch 1 and ms2 ch 8. i would argue that the action scene in the collapsing building in takado’s chapter TWENTY SEVEN is about equivalent to the action climax scenes that happen in hlitf ms1 chapter NINE.

(oh and i also think that the whole talking about how physically beautifully they are to their faces from day one also hinders the sense of growing mutual attraction.)

another GIANT hindrance is that a lot of the key bonding moments are actually paywalled behind heart scenes so you really don’t get anything if you don’t dish out THANKS LOVE CHOICE.

anyway, long story short is that romance md spends waaay too long and focusses way too much on plot stuff and character backstory (if you can even unlock it lmao) and leaves maybe 5% at the very end for romance rather than having a romantic element integrated throughout the story. if i were to try and compare it to hlitf again, i would say that to me, rmd routes feel like if hlitf ms1 was as it is but then there was one extra chapter at the end where it just goes straight to confession without the entirety of ms2′s development. but also like at least 2x longer. like imagine if we had ms1 and ms2 but there was no romantic engagement or indication of any romantic interest from the love interest in 20 whole chapters except you suddenly get one confession but only in the happy ending. actually matsunaga’s doctor ending literally FLOORED me like ???????? it’s literally like imagine if you only got through namba’s ms1 and half of ms2 (to that scene outside the dorms when you know what happens) and THAT’S WHERE IT ENDS LASKDJFLKSJ they finally had some early emotional awareness on the part of the mc and then they had to go and make it ENTIRELY one sided with not just zero but actually NEGATIVE romantic intention from the love interest i’m screaming

tl;dr: my biggest problem with romance md is that it’s literally SO LONG but there’s no romance
