LOL idk why im one of the only guys u trust for manga/anime opinions BUT SURE do you mean like... what do I think of the current plot? or mha in general? (I will answer both. i love to talk) current plot: (SPOILERS) It's clearly the final arc and its clearly taking longer than Horikoshi intended lol. Overall it's decent shounen fare? Nothing mindblowing but it's well drawn and weekly developments r fun so im not complaining. I'm not the type to get rly invested in villains so AFO/shigaraki even Dabi are only interesting to me thematically and as characters I don't rly care but the visuals are cool enough. I love the pure white negative space hair and Horikoshi clearly loves AKIRA LOL. I will say I LOVE the ongoing Boku No Open Heart Surgery saga that's going on with Bakugo though. I love that they have to save him in some ridiculous weird power-based way lol, normal first aid would be booooring!! + I think its smart for the manga to keep him teetering on the edge of death and flashing his lifeless body every 5 pgs (lol) because it means even if the final fight drags a lil I'll keep tuning in.

in general: There's a lot of shounen manga out there but there's only one shounen manga that caters specifically to people who love the school aspect of x-men comics so I think I'm pre-disposed to love mha based on that alone. Beyond that, I love how idiosyncratic and energetic horikoshi's art style is.. I feel like the two things u can tell right off the bat abt his drawings is that he draws rly fast and that he rly loves his characters lol. Evident in the sketches he puts on twitter and the bonus content in all the tankobon volumes (it's also great for ""content""" he's a good content creator), he's always coming up with situations and outfits and concepts on the fly for those kids like they truly live in his brain. Also the more I read the more I realize I actually quite enjoy Horikoshi's writing too? I think he really clearly grew up with and adores paying homage to corny shounen superhero stuff but he's also very genre savvy and (I think) purposefully avoids a lot of common criticisms and pitfalls. Like the power scaling is pretty tame, the adults never truly give up responsibility of the kids & continue to own up to mistakes/endangerment (but never so much as to prevent the kids from doing cool action stuff!! duh), the cast is relatively well balanced despite being so big etc etc... It's not perfect, there's pretty significant failing on gender parity, and some of the pacing is way better in archival format > week-to-week but it's pretty good overall. Also its funny?? I feel like in the midst of 9486135613 action battle series + generic anime comedy we forget to address when something actually has good jokes and i think mha does. The aoyama cheese stuff made me laugh, the kids protesting biased commentary was funny as hell, and honestly i think mirio distracting afo with his ass?? funnier than naruto's final yaoi no jutsu imo. Sorry if you wanted me to dish out criticism I know its kind of popular to hate on mha rn because it's pretty generic low-brow shounen. And also adults who obsess over yaoi-ifying these kids are like the butt of the joke on the internet rn. But I don't rly run in fandom circles, it's just a solid manga to me with fun characters. Actually 90% of the reason I started reading mha again was because I listened to the mangasplaining ep abt it recently and they made me remember how much there was to like! Good to listen to if you want a more fandom-free objective take on the manga. Also Horikoshi credits all of his assistants in a bonus page in every volume! just a cool thing to note! kinda rare for a mangaka and kind of important for a series that requires as much assistant work as a wsj shounen. I feel like the amount of assistants that have gone on to lead mha spin off manga projects is kind of testament to how good his relationship w them is.

Hmmm let's say some mundane daily issues stressed them out and nothing too grand. Ofc 300% serious per usual:

Kamui - goes into full 🥺 mode and waits to be comforted by men. His stress reliever is crying in man's arms or overal physical + emotional comfort. 6/10 on healthy scale and 🌈/10 on gayness one

Sorata - meme it all away. Deals with stress via humor. King. 9/10

Arashi - looks like a type to bottle up. May try some hot tea and meditation so 4/10

Yuzuriha - has no poker face whatsoever, can't keep stiff upper lip to save her life. Will end up bawling her eyes to someone and getting comforted (not in gay 🥺 way like Kamui does tho). Maybe will have Inuki comfort her a bit. Effective overall plus she's 14 so 7/10

Karen - will bottle up and put up a fake smile :< also do some self-deprecating and self sabotaging thing like drug her teammates and go out to fight and die alone :< although her style rocks so 4/10 on common sense scale but 🔥/10 on vibes and sexiness

Aoki - idk rly, guess go to soap lady's hotel room one late at night. To chat with her about protecting kekais duh, ofc no funny business. Happy family man with ounce of common sense yes but can he resist the temptation? 9/10 on he should deal with stress via hooking up with Karen scale

Kotori - cries herself out and gets comforted by her brother or slips into insanity and wants to get crucified no in between. 5/10

Good boy Fuuma - deal with stress by comforting and protecting Kotori and Kamui. Especially Kamui tho, the more touchy feely they are the better Fuuma is feeling. 8/10 on healthy scale since bottling up but 🌈/10 on gayness one

Antichrist Fuuma - I can't possibly state here post will get flagged as explicit. But let's just say it has to do with all kinds of explosions

Subaru - he doesn't deal with stress in any productive way possible, he mops around, smokes it out or sufferes in silence masochistically. That's how 🤕 kinks got as bad as they are, king tried to repress them. Alternatively he deal with stress by wanting to be stabbed. If he dealt with stress by getting railed I would have given him higher rating but this way 1/10 for the masochism and every BDSM-5 mental illness

Yuuto - he fucks it out, no questions. 10/10, Subaru this should be your role model

Kanoe - copes with stress via being sexiest person ever, flirting with absolutely everyone and having sex every day. Also while having them government salary and not doing jack shit beside dreaming in dick throne and having ominous prophecies. Dream coping mechanism 11/10

Hinoto - lies for funsies and makes false false prophecies. She sends seals into death for fun and apperently has a thing for making Kamui's life as hard as it can possibly be. Zero coping mechanism she gave into her dark side but at least we've seen some hinoto-cest pics so for that 2/10

Kusanagi - idk about him rly he seems like most rational one? So something about spilling sorrows to the bartender. Idk let's rate it 7/10

Keiichi - only boy with common sense in this manga he deals with problems resiliently but actually talks about them. 9/10

Nataku - guess they go out and die?? 0/10 on any scale

Kakyou - his coping mechanism is looking pretty and ominous ambiguous prophetic lines. Also I guess eternal pretty boy looks since how does he look the same in TB flashbacks and in X, Kakyou plz reveal me your secret?? 7/10 cuz of L'oreal hair

Satsuki - guess she either does carnage or gets all touchy with Kanoe. Also gets comforted by Yuuto from time to time. Girl has the range and taste so 8/10

so it depends! i think in my mind "retellings" is like a myth or a fairy-tale or even a folktale retelling -- so song of achilles is a retelling of part of the iliad. becoming jane is a movie that tries to reimagine jane austen's life and her relationships with the people in it in an attempt to contextualize her inspiration for the novels she wrote.

i like fairy-tale/myth retellings specifically because chances are, the reader already knows how the story goes. right so -- cinderella retelling -- you know off the bat, main character's probably gonna have a shite lot in life, there will be at least one step parent involved and step siblings. a shoe or shoe-adjacent thing will be lost at some point in time.

so you have the advantage of writing a story knowing what your readers already know about the original fairy tale. and then. the fun is the actual details -- how does your retelling differ? does it attempt to turn some of the stereotypes on it's head? do the stepsisters actually rock? perhaps prince charming suCKS and is super vain and cinderella kicks off her shoe to throw him off her scent as she tries desperately to flee the palace?

i think the fun of retellings is the same kind of fun the poets of old had with traditional poetry forms -- you have a set of rules (rhyme schemes, meter, etc) but within those rules? the world is ur fucking oyster and the sky is ur clam.

in terms of TROPES in animes though -- i think found family is my cincher. like. fuck bro.

idk romance makes me flail but like. FRIENDSHIPS?!?!?!??! sad lonely people finding other people who undersatnd them or taKE THE TIME TO TRY????? fINDING A PLACE TO BELONG??? to call UR OWN????

i guess i don't worry about feeling repetitive because in the grand scheme of things (and i REALLY like to think big picture cause it rly just gives u the perspective to not give a single fuck), every single story has already been written.

the hero's journey has been documented since time intinium. the anti-hero's journey almost as well documented (judas, anyone?). every romance, every friendship, every heartbreak, every war that's ever been fought -- has been fought before and will be fought again.

in the words of sarah kay "the universe has already written the poem you were planning on writing" and nothing under the sun is new.

so. if nothing is new anyway -- why worry yourself over it？

all you can do -- all any of us can do, is try to tell the same story in a way that's true to ourselves. in a way that speaks to us on a particular day, in a particular mood, under a particular climate.

oh she's definitely still evolving LOL. i'm still trying to get to grips with her, but i think i'm starting to figure her out so yay!! i'm super boring in the way i develop characters, so i just kind of started from a jumping point of 1) angsty angry ex relationship w seven 2) daisy jones but make it grunge rock 3) fun wild colour scheme LOL. marnie's a name i've been testing on a few ocs recently n this time she's stuck &lt;3

cherry bomb (joan jett & the blackhearts) is a big marnie song bc 1) i know for a fact she screams along to it in the car all the time and 2) the lyrics are just... very her vibe. allll of i hate my mom (GRLwood) is very heavily marnie-coded too LOL. all eyes on me (bo burnham) is very lyrically marnie (are you feeling nervous? are you having fun? it's almost over / it's just begun) even if the genre/style isn't anything she'd sing (tho she might listen?).

marnie definitely wants fame; definitely feels an urge to prove herself and to also seek out people who love her, who want her around and admire her. but i think the realities of fame will prooooobably suck for her more than she thinks they will. she loves attention & admiration, but i think the fickleness of public opinion is gonna fuck w her (shes already struggling to handle this whole fight situation & reactions to it in the press as well as all the references to her relationship w seven).

also, despite how open she seems, there's a lot of stuff abt her life that she wants to keep private (what rly happened with seven, why she doesnt talk to her parents, the true extent of her partying) so having no public boundaries is..... gna be difficult for her, aha. but i think the accomplishment will help her in her way towards happiness, and she'll be proud of herself & the band for any fame/appreciation they manage to claw out?? and she absolutely will love being adored by her fans LOL so u kno there's highs and there's lows

hmmmm. she got into music in the first place to try bonding with her dad aha :/ he had a lot of old rock records and he used to listen to them when he wasn't on assignment. even used to laugh when she sang along sometimes, which was a balm for her no one loves me heart. he kind of lost interest over the years, tho, so it never brought them together.

when she left her parents' house for the last time, she stole his rumours vinyl lol. probably that might come back to bite her on the ass legally like that is entirely possible. but it's one of her most sentimentally valuable possessions, even if she doesnt break it out often bc it makes her think of her dad :/ it's defo come on tour with them in her luggage

Bruce nodded. "Well, he only has one pierced. I have both." Jason squinted at him. "Which one does he have pierced?" Bruce thought for a moment, then answered, "The right, I think." Jason smirked. I saw you rbd an art ask meme a while ago and been desperately wanting to send my thoughts but kept falling asleep But hii here I am. I used to think your trademark or what stood out to me the most about your art were the way you did faces and this resemblance to illustrated fairytales? I told u once that they reminded me lots of this one artists,, Ida Rentoul Outhwaite? But that was way back then and tho your faces are still very striking to me (& the depth of the eyes and such,,), since i got to see more of ur art I now stand that it does look super gothic?? It's incredibly stylized but not in a wacky way that sets it apart from the rest like crazy, just in a very delicate manner if that makes sense at all.

Your linework makes me think of intricate lace patterns, thorny rose bushes or these detailed black iron gates i love :O especially all you do in black and white. But your painting is also sososo pleasant too... esp the texture you give to skin makes me wanna bite!!

hiii bestie I’ve got a few questions abt ur art so I might as well send them 2 ur art blog >:3 ok so first off your coloring style is REALLY cool & you’re rly good at finding the right places to put certain colors in the shadows & highlights if that makes sense? I just wanna know more about your coloring technique it’s really good!! also you’re really good with drawing actually natural looking hand poses & I’m kinda curious abt your techniques with drawin those!!

hiii!!!! first of all thank you :3 you're a huge inspiration to me so it's amazing to hear you say that :') (this got long so i'm putting a readmore)

secondly: i've been developing my coloring skills for a long time now!! i'm mostly inspired by @/hoofpeet's colors, and remember a while back when i was making those color studies all the time? that's my practice! really i've just been studying the way other people do colors and what they do that draws me to it so much. what i've found is that usually, the color i *think* will be right for something is nowhere *near* the color that's actually right for it! i don't have a lot of solid universal advice, but i can say this: let your colors be very similar to eachother, and instead of just changing the saturation and value of a color you're trying to shade or add texture to, change the hue by small amounts too!! it works WONDERS and once you're able to make those kind of changes habitual while you're coloring, practice is the key!!!

also that's kind of vague, so: when you practice, it's important not to do the same thing over and over. the goal in practicing art techniques (for me, anyways, this is what helps me improve/develop new skills) is not to have a casual doodling drawing time - you have to be thinking about what you're doing pretty much the entire time. try new things, and keep at it!!! those color studies i did, i took a palette and placed the colors around the canvas, and tried to make them connect with eachother. the big thing to remember is that you don't want just a smooth gradient from one color to another!! giving it variety is what'll help improve and quicken your eye for color!

when it comes to texture, i rely hardcore on my brushes and stroke technique, and i kind of develop the texture with the colors i choose. idk if that makes much sense but that's all i can say to explain it shsjfhsj

as for hands - i have almost absolutely no idea how i draw them. some days i can and some days i can't, and some days it just works out really well for me lmaoo... the only advice i can think of giving is the fact that i study my own hands CONSTANTLY even when i'm not drawing. i am basically OBSESSED with the shape and form of my own hands, and that's the reason i'm so picky about the natural shape and form of the hands i draw. even when i draw cartoony little hands with complete disregard for anatomy, i always try to make sure the gesture or "flow" of the way they're moving/resting looks natural.

sorry this isn't more specific shfjdhf!!! a lot of my art comes through trial and error, and closely studying art i like to figure out why i like it, and trying to replicate it in the best way i can.

It's a good ending to the album and I get that it has good parts but overall it would probably rank last for me, sorry. I like how hopeful it is though.

look i’ll talk abt this one more time n then i Beg we can put it to rest! (this is gna be a lot of word vomit but if i'm elaborative now i hope i won't have to talk abt this ever again)

i’m deeply insecure abt many aspects of collision. i don’t really keep that a secret. i also know some ppl don't like fantasy, some ppl don't like the kinds of dynamics i like, some ppl don't vibe with my style of writing (hell, i barely vibe with my style of writing). those things are fine. i can't control that and i don't take that personally. the reason why this is the one critique i do take personally is because it genuinely presumes wrongful, harmful things about me and my values, especially when i've made deliberate efforts to avoid writing the exact flavor of fic they're accusing me of having written. just because people don’t mean for what they say to reflect back on me, doesn’t stop it from doing so.

the thing about calling something a “het fic” is that the term brings along certain connotations which i don’t stand by at all and feel deeply uncomfortable and distraught to possibly have created. i’ve gone over this godforsaken story again and again just to be absolutely sure i didn’t actually do so. when people say “het fic” they generally don’t mean “boy meets girl and they fall in love”, they mean “super rude and mean boy meets uptight virtuous girl and makes her fall in dependence with him through manipulation and treating her like shit until she behaves how he wants.” and that is straight up not the fic i wrote. i’m not stupid. i know the dynamic i went with is widely and easily misused and there’s a lot of fiction depicting really bad, uneven, unhealthy relationships through it. i knew this going in, and i’ve tried persistently to avoid making those same mistakes. 

skipping over the fact that they’re both boys (bc duh)--harry doesn't exhibit any real manipulative power over louis. collision harry is a grumpy, fruity little nerd who happened upon a really unfortunate lot in life and managed to trick himself into believing he's evil for like half a second of the story and his resolves crumble like a danish pastry the moment he receives his first hug. he's kind of aloof and arrogant, and understandably hardened from his past, but he's not bad. he's just lost. that's the basis of his character arc. now on the other hand, louis has harry wrapped around his finger starting like chapter 4. harry’s the one who opens up emotionally first, harry’s the one desperately seeking louis’ approval and caring about his opinion, harry’s the one who makes himself vulnerable continuously throughout the entire story. the only time louis makes himself vulnerable on a comparable scale is during the smut scenes, and even then, harry is gentle and attentive and puts louis first. louis is less experienced than harry in that area, but he isn't scared or intimidated by harry, and he has full reigns of the progression and nature of their relationship as a whole. that’s kind of how it needs to go with tough x soft dynamics for the power balance to not feel uneven, and i wrote the story accordingly. if you then happen to still be so blindly determined to associate soft/small with weakness (and thereby uh, womanhood ig) that you still felt like louis had an inferior position to harry solely because he is indeed soft/small, that sounds quite frankly like a you problem.

now, the whole point of louis’ character is that he’s underestimated. sure, he’s naive and self-centered and sheltered from the real world--that’s the basis of his character arc. those things all change. but louis isn’t ever weak. like idk who apparently needs to hear this but you can be small and simultaneously not be a pushover. the two aren’t mutually exclusive. there isn’t a single time louis takes shit in this story, especially not from harry; he gives back as good as he gets every time. oh! and then he literally saves the entire universe and the execution of that whole thing was his idea alone. i tried really hard to underline how strong-willed and full of grit he is to contrast what others think of him. if you think he’s portrayed as a meek and frail damsel, you missed the point. once again, i feel like we circle back to this misconception of louis being kind of naive and physically small = louis being inferior = louis being female. just do some soul searching.

(i could also get into the fact that for a bunch of people who don’t know these boys personally (no matter how much we like to think we do), this fandom is weirdly opinionated about characterization. especially regarding sexual stuff. i know creating a version for ourselves of who we think these boys are based on things we recognize in ourselves or things we find endearing is part of the comfort with loving them. but that doesn’t really equate to actually knowing them, and besides, this is fan fiction; no one’s opting to write a biography, anyway. being experimental and explorative and putting different aspects of their personalities in different lightings is what makes fic fun. if someone’s writing harmful or one-dimensional characters, that’s one thing, and preferences is again whatever floats your boat. but the “out of character” argument feels mostly really strange to me. this is a bit of a tangent, though.)

lastly, the thing is that i will and i do take it personally if someone insinuates that a character--a gay character--that i, a lesbian, construed is a secret vessel for expressing heterosexual attraction. if someone calls louis a “self-insert”, that does reflect back on me. and to elaborate on that--i don’t particularly love to bring it up, but it's quite disheartening to pour personal PTSD experiences into a character and rly put effort into doing it right and justice and underline growth and healing, just to find out people disregard all that completely in favor of declaring that my self-projection lies in the attraction to a man--which is to say, the one thing i couldn’t possibly feel more estranged from. it's so incredibly tactless. i feel thoroughly whiny at this point but how is that not supposed to make me a little sad?

anyway. none of this is to say that you can’t dislike or critique collision. you can. sometimes ppl don’t like things. but i hope i’m clear about where i’m coming from with my discomfort now. people’s preferences and dislikes are indeed not mine to be hurt by, but these things are. this definitely got unnecessarily long and i probably look like i take myself unbearably seriously (i promise i don’t), so i’m sorry. but at least i've said everything now, and if i encounter this sort of rhetoric in the future, i have something to redirect people to. also anon, none of this is directly pointed at you, i know you mean well. take care <3

hi there, i love your art and i really loved six cats under especially the cute visuals! it rly opened up my eyes to how amazing simple game visuals could b... i'm an illustrator and i was just wondering how did you get started on game dev? i'd love to be able to make a game like that but idk where to start

Yeah, simple visuals are great when making games solo or with limited time. Being able to crank out assets fast is helpful since there’s just so many tasks that need doing to make a game. (And the minimalism can be pleasing to look at, too! I finished playing Diaries of a Spaceport Janitor just now and man I loved the super simple yet effective style, it was very inspiring!)

The practical first step to game making if you’ve never done it before is to pick a game engine start fiddling around in it. What you’ll want to use depends on the kinds of games you want to make. I chose Unity since it’s free and allows me to make pretty much whatever, but there’s more beginner-friendly ones out there too, in case you don’t have a background in coding.

When starting off Unity, I couldn’t be bothered to really follow any tutorials or guides just to learn the software; I found it more fun to come up with a little project and try making it, googling answers to questions on the way. My first “game” was some nonsense where you played as my dog, ran around a 2D forest and shot laser eyes at some tiny monsters. Tiny and inconsequential games are the best kind to begin learning with.

After that initial goofing off period to get acquainted with the engine and the basics of making assets and coming up with code to make it actually do stuff, I’ve just been following my heart, working on whatever idea I get excited by. I’ve got some bigger projects in the back of my mind, my dream games I’d like to do one day, but I recognise those are too large-scale for my current skills so I’m saving them for later in favour of these simpler games that are more likely to get finished without driving me nuts.

So yeah, grab a game engine, come up with some silly little idea and try to make it real. Then just keep going and start slowly accruing the skillsets that making games requires. Like, I made that first laser dog game 5 years ago, but since then I’ve finished six games, each of them feeling more intuitive to make than the previous, and I’m working professionally in indie games. The progress might be slow due to the wildly varying skills that go into game dev, but it is steady.

here’s the thing, it’s been established that aaron has been stalking nisha long before he actually kidnaps nora. SO! instead of getting sidetracked, he actually just straight up takes nisha. everyone freaks out. nora finds all of nisha’s obsessive notes about the case and tries to track her down and of course aaron finds her and strikes the same deal. and oh my god.

nisha literally would not be able to deal with being a vampire on her own, she already has such a problem with being… EVIL and now she’s the living embodiment of it omfg. she’d want to die every second she would just nEED to be purged and the whole torture chapter would be her begging and begging for that kind of punishment. starving herself, following aaron’s every order the second it left his mouth, she wouldn’t want nora to look at her ever. she would lose it to her bloodlust and that’d be the only time nora would be able to approach her and TBH. when nisha turns nora by accident, she would just. lose it. i think she’d just retreat into her vampire self and just never want to come out again, just obediently follow aaron until nora realizes she has to kill him.
