one thing i love about kh 'family tree' diagrams is it rlly drives home how little of the confusing 'who is who and there's two copies of this guy' stuff is related to family, which is i feel where a lot of that stuff comes from in other stories. you don't have a long lost dad, you've been possessed by this old guy. oops! there's no family legacy but you ARE a clone so gl with that! bbs eraqus situation obviously exists but even then it's not blood ties. the fact that blood ties almost universally mean fuck all is actually rlly endearing to me

we all know about how BBS loved to emphasize that Ienzo’s parents are super dead but are you aware of how often it emphasized the power of his autism stare

i think so often about ienzo. how they say with no explanation that his parents are dead and for some reason a bunch of old scientists decided to adopt him. how he loved sea salt ice cream as a child. how he could “smell” (sense) darkness and he was the only one within the org that kingdom hearts made a distinction to point that ability out, likely meaning that his way was different than the usual way to sense darkness and the only one who could do that. except that riku can also do that. who is ienzo. why is he so different from everyone but also way in the background. he didn’t talk to hardly anyone in the org and we don’t know what he was doing most of the time. will he play a role in the future or is he this randomly unique character for no reason at all that will never get a focus. what the hell is going on with ienzo nomura

“Eventually it was found out I was hiding her in my home, tending to her wounds. I’m sure you know how well this place takes to outsiders, yes? They chased her out to die at the hands of the wild pokémon, and I haven’t been able to find her since.”
I really wanted to draw a Hisui!Steven, and this is what my brain came up with. Because obviously I had to make it Time Lapse: Reluctant Hero related. Since it’s Hisui and 500 hundred years in the past, it only makes sense that his name would be Daigo. And since the “heroes” don’t exist in the specific universe they live in (being a world in which the villains were supposed to win, before a bunch of Legendaries screwed up and El got tossed into Rustburo) Arceus is probably just watching things happen beyond expectations.
I mean, at “this” point in time, El has had unwanted contact with the very same Legendaries who hecked up, has managed to stop Team Rocket, Team Magma and Team Aqua, and even stopped Team Galatic during what was supposed to be her freaking honeymoon. Farther in the future, her first two kids- Ienzo and Amelia- end up stopping Team Plasma and the third youngest kiddo, Aria, puts a stop to the shenanigans happening in Galar.
So, for all intents and purposes, Arceus is just like, “Hm, yes, thou humans are quite skilled and just the heroes we need. Unfortunately, the one is a bit too old for thy quest.” So he just snatches (probably) Amelia since she looks the most like her mother with the brown hair, and YEETS her five hundred years into the past.
And then she meets  one of her ancestors who is also Steven’s past life or something where he’s named Daigo and he looks the exact same except that he has a ponytail now and has a slightly softer/sadder disposition, and is a good few years younger than current Steven. So she totally mistakes him as her dad at first. But he’s not. And now they’re both confused.
But Amelia looks just enough like El that Daigo- after talking to her enough times- mentions that she reminds him of someone he used to know. And that sets off so many alarm bells because HUH REALLY WOW WHAT A COINCIDENCE, DOES THIS PERSON HAPPEN TO BE A FOREIGN UNOVAN LADY.
And he’s like, the heck is Unova? She was definitely foreign though.
And so Amelia asks what the woman looked like and how they met, and Daigo says he saved her from drowning by some wild pokemon a couple years ago. He snuck her into the village to treat her and fell in love. But his brother (who is totally just a blue-haired Richard mwahahaha) found out and told the villagers, and they chased her out to die.
And Amelia is just horrified.
Because obviously her parents went through some serious nonsense to get where they are now. Steven found El amnesiac and alone in the streets of Rustboro in the middle of the night when they were kids, and had made a promise to meet again just for her to be kidnapped by Team Rocket and abused by them for the next nine years. Steven doesn’t know whether she’s alive or dead. El doesn’t remember his name or what he looks like. Eventually she escapes because of Mewtwo blowing their headquarters, but then six more years pass. And then Steven fucking dies because Groudan and Kyogre, and it’s only thanks to Celebi reviving him that he’s alive now, and then like two more years pass after the Rayquaza incident where Steven just disappears because oh gods feelings he does not know how to process.
But in their past lives? Jeez.
They were forcibly torn apart by death, and then separated by an entire dimension. If it wasn’t by happenstance that the Legendary Pokémon screwed up, they never would have met again in Hoenn. Amelia was impressed that El and Steven ever even found each other at all as adults, but is even more baffled after learning what Daigo went through.
When Amelia finally returns to Hoenn, she’s probably gonna tackle Steven and El in a giant bear hug because good gods it’s a miracle their family even exists.
Shout out to Celebi, because, heh, well, they’re the reason both El and Steven are alive.

Shielded
(This is a short parental Vexen & Zexion related one-shot I made months ago about Vexen and his shield. I care so deeply for Dad!Vexen and his adopted boy as well as his lab grown kids Xion and Repliku. Anyhow, fic under the cut! Enjoy!)
(Very brief. 608 words.)
To grow up without a heart was a terrifying thing. It came to a point that Vexen came to realize, one day, that it had been so long since he last heard Zexion speak to him. He had always been a quiet child when he was Ienzo, but the trauma of losing his heart seemed to shock him into becoming almost mute. He wasn't capable of fighting Heartless or really even using magic well yet, so Vexen had to admit he had some concern over his Superior's plans.
It scared him when Zexion finally addressed him.
The room was muted and quiet, you could have heard a pin drop. Xemnas had given Vexen a lab to carry out his work in. Bookshelves lined the walls, and he was sat in front of a table with what appeared to be a mannequin on it. He observed the fingers of it, which creaked softly as he tried to move them, but then he jumped as Zexion spoke, sitting at his side and finally speaking up.
"Even," the boy whispered to him, his voice deeper than what he remembered. He was getting older by the day.
"Zexion, come now, Even is dead, you know this. I am Vexen now. Commit that to memory, please," he insisted as Zexion deadpanned at his response. Vexen knitted his brow, realizing his harsh, ice cold tone. "Apologies. I. Did not mean to snap at you."
"It's okay." Zexion carefully embraced him into a hug, hands still gentle, holding him like a child seeking comfort from their parent.
If they were supposed to be emotionless now, then why did he feel this way? The urge to protect Zexion as if he were still young Ienzo, scared and alone in the world. Slowly, he held Zexion close to him and rubbed his back soothingly, his arms trembling lightly. Vexen had long since lost track of the days that had passed since their induction into the Organization, but it felt like it had been years since he held him in this way.
He was getting bigger and older, but he didn't want to think about that. It hurt enough to think about the fact that Zexion was so isolated now. Axel never talked to him the way he used to as Lea and Saïx had long since become sick of Axel still trying to act like the same teen he was when the two spent their days playing in the Gardens.
Vexen shut his eyes, feeling his empty shell fill with intense sorrow as he recalled what happened that day with Ansem. It almost hurt. He tried so hard to protect Ienzo then, but he failed, and now they were stuck in these husks of bodies.
"I'm sorry. I wish I had done better to protect you that day. I should've been a better guardian to you." He whispered quietly as he pulled back to look at Zexion. His hair, messy as it ever was, made only one of his eyes visible, but he looked him in that eye to show his sincerity.
He opened his mouth to speak, but paused. He hadn't used his voice in so long. "You did your best. It couldn't be helped, I know that," Zexion said softly, his voice a hushed whisper, "I still love you."
Love.
It hit him hard to hear that. It was as if he were a father hearing that from his child for the first time all over again. He hadn’t realized how much of a parent he was to the boy until now.
"I'll always protect you, Zexion."
Maybe that was why he held the shield.

Scenes I need explained ASAP Nomura PLEASE
What happened to Ienzo’s parents and why is it important enough to be brought up twice? + Why does Ienzo have no memory prior to coming to Radiant Garden and why does he try to recall it when he thinks about hearts and memories?
Tumblr media
The scene where Ienzo looks back at Braig and Xehanort. Was he looking at Braig or Xehanort? What did his serene gaze see at this point?
Tumblr media
What is Xemnas’ secret exactly? Is it about Terra or something more? Surely Xigbar knew about Terranort from the scene above where he’s interrogating Xehanort. Does Xemnas have another secret? Why does Xigbar share the information about Ventus’ location and why does Ienzo not bring it up to everyone in KH3? Vexen could of been in this conversation but it’s specifically Zexion.
Tumblr media
How did Zexion know where everyone was in the castle and when they died before someone tells him personally. Did he know DiZ was Ansem TW? How did Zexion use actual light in a battle with Riku? It seems like an illusion at first but it actively hurt Riku and almost defeated him before Namine interfered. Then the conversation afterwards suggests it was legitimate light. He can fight with both Sora and Riku’s keyblades (Though this is probably just illusions)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why did Saix want Zexion PERSONALLY dead? Axel disposed of Vexen too but Zexion is specifically the only person mentioned in this. Why was Zexion ranked so highly in Org13 prior to his death? Nomura saying he was Xemnas’ OG right hand man before Saix took his place.
Tumblr media
Then this entire sequence that is Xion’s dream where Xion is Roxas and chasing herself but then herself turns into Zexion post-his death????? It’s so out of the blue and not explained AT ALL. Why is Zexion VS Riku battle highlighted again?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then in KH3 when Roxas is brought back using replicas thanks to Vexen, Ienzo and Ansem the Wise. Why was Ienzo/Zexion brought up by Xemnas over Vexen who did more of the betrayal work?? He gets a whole “And others” by Roxas and that’s his whole mention.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nomura PLEASE why do you keep highlighting Ienzo/Zexion as important? I have my theories but it still amazes me so many people haven’t caught on that Nomura is LITERALLY SPELLING IT OUT that we should have an eye on Ienzo. From his weapon being destroyed in Proof of Existence, to him having an unexplained backstory, to Ienzo being the one suggesting the creation of the labs to conduct the experiments. We only get more questions that answers in game and we only know other tidbits from outside sources. I genuinely wish there was a larger conversation from KH fans on this.

001 - Kingdom Hearts
Favorite character: On the villain side: VEXEN IS BEST ORGANIZATION XIII MEMBER. Shoulda stayed evil, though. I like it when he complains and screams about everything and hates everyone. He's one of my favorite villains, just, like...in general. So fun to write. Also attached to Demyx, but I actually liked him more in III than II because it reminded me of my rawr lolspeek weeb days when I f/o'd him without knowing what f/o'ing was and then transitioned this to shipping VexDem like heck. On the hero side: MY GIRL KAIRI! But honorable mentions go to Sora, Riku, Aqua, Ven, Terra, Xion, Roxas, Lea, Ienzo, any Disney character I loved beforehand (this is way too fuckin many to list), Merlin (OKAY I WILL SINGLE HIM OUT), Yen Sid (I'LL SINGLE HIM OUT TOO), you know what let's also single out the Mickey+Donald+Goofy power trio...just...any KH hero who isn't part of the Yozora stuff or the KHUX stuff. ...Except I also LOVE Strelitzia, and she is the only KHUX-exclusive kiddo I care about but I care about her MANY. (Oh, and there's a least fave I have who's a "hero" but that's a debatable label). I would go on about why I love all of them but...that's too many characters to elaborate on
Least Favorite character: See, I think the real answer is Yozora, but the thing is I just tend to forget about him or not care (unless I'm doing a weird AU where he's Noctis' bratty Nobody, don't ask). He kinda represents the Shark Jump and I don't like watching that scene where he literally petrifies Sora for not being strong enough. But again, I can just kinda forget about him if he's not fed to me through a social-media unit. The one I LOVE TO HATE is Master Eraqus. The man actually triggered me back in the day. He is purity culture. He is the overbearing parent who will not accept you unless you are perfect. He is by and large the reason VAT didn't communicate with each other properly. He was the one who taught Aqua to think in absolutes. He lied to Ventus for years and then insisted to kill him was the only option, and then, when Terra tried to defend his brother figure/friend without knowing WHY Eraqus was doing such a thing, Eraqus didn't offer an explanation and instead switched targets to Terra citing that the problem was Terra's lack of OBEDIENCE. Eraqus is just very "my way or the highway" and uses his moral high horse to justify doing things that utterly lack compassion in any regard, which is something that GETS to me on a deep level, and let me tell you, I hated him for so long until I realized he was actually a super fuckin fun guy to imagine as a Bigger Bad in AUs that either have the KH protags teaming up or have villain protags needing a "greater good lawful evil" figure. And I just have found too many good memes about him cheating at chess and killing children. I have to laugh. Making fun of him is fun. He's a ridiculous character. That said, this recent trend of "erase everything bad he ever did and paint him as the ultimate hero of the saga" makes me raise eyebrows for SEVERAL reasons
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): VexDem, SoRiku, Kairi x Jaune Arc (RWBY), Aqua x Rosalina (Super Mario Galaxy) x Bayonetta, IsaLea, Ventus x Papyrus (Undertale), that was six but they all needed to be mentioned
Character I find most attractive: Ienzo. HOO BABY he is adorable. I saw someone make a Valentine's Day gifset of KH and FF characters shortly after III dropped and seeing his smiling face paired with a romance quote made my heart FLUTTER
Character I would marry: Probably Ienzo, see above. He's also a very kind guy. Favorite redemption in the modern era.
Character I would be best friends with: I hope the Destiny Trio would adopt me into their friend circle the way they've tended to do with every other inter-world denizen they've come across. I would love to have them as my positivity squad. Or, y'know, two positivities and one "it's okay to screw up" guy. Just. I would love to hang out with them. I often worry that I'm unlikable to my faves, but even though I would usually prefer to hang with the villains, I can pretty much guarantee these three would be open-minded about me. (Do I kiiiiinda wanna be friends with Vexen though? Of course I do. He'd hate me but maaaayyyyybe he would see me as one of his pet idiots who makes him look smarter, and we could bond over our fragile egos?)
a random thought: You ever think about that one NPC lady in Traverse Town who refused to tell you where she was from because it was none of her business? You ever wonder where she WAS from? What her world was like? How she ended up being the survivor of the Ansem Apocalypse when it hit her? All I know is that when I read her lines out loud (I used to read KH speech balloons out loud all the time), I gave her a Southern accent for no discernible reason and I stand by it. That woman has a twang.
An unpopular opinion: I don't want KHUX to be canon because I feel it's smaller-scale and takes a lot of mystery out of the worldbuilding. I always assume that the KHverse just includes ALL worlds in fiction, and that includes their thousand-year histories, meaning the Age of Fairy Tales should've happened long long long LONG LONG LONG ago and not five generations. And whatever screwed up the world should've been more than just five people having a fight, and whatever saved it should've been more than just five people getting along, and Daybreak Town really suffers from having to stick to mobile-friendly graphics and therefore is the least aesthetically attractive KH town ever, and I don't like that Lauriam and Elrena used to be such selfless people. I do still love Strelitzia because she's shy and relatable and quirky (sitting on the roof) and she questions authority and if you go with shipping subtext she's probably bi (or pan?), but I don't like the "Lauriam's dead sister for his arc's drama" bit. I liked when Marluxia was angry because he wanted to run Organization XIII but it was in the hands of an idiot who wasn't him. And more than anything I just like imagining that the Age of Fairy Tales was something bigger, further in the past, and more mysterious than something designed for a mobile game. Scala ad Caelum, however, I like a lot better because there IS a lot of mystery there and also it's a very pretty town with an amazing design.
my canon OTP: I really only count the Disney couples as the "canon" ones, so this is a question of picking my favorite Disney couple that shows up onscreen. I hope I'm not forgetting an important one, but I think the title has to go to Aladdin/Jasmine, which is always perfect in everything. (This would be an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT STORY if KH had ever adapted Treasure Planet, and if it ever gets the mind to adapt Treasure Planet then even if I don't care about that game I will immediately declare that Amelia/Doppler takes the KH canon OTP crown. *taps watch* Get on it Squenix)
Non-canon OTP: SoRiku, which I counted as "basically canon" after DDD until III decided it wasn't sure. But I'm just a sucker for how DDD is the two of them all "HE'S GOT MY BACK AND I'VE GOT HIS AND I'D DO ANYTHING FOR HIM SO LONG AS HE'S HAPPY." It's just the best kind of Friends-to-Lovers, except when you take all canon into account it's Friends-to-Rivals-to-Enemies-to-Friends-to-Lovers and that's a very juicy dynamic. BUT ALSO: VexDem, which is a nostalgia ship SO STRONG I had to accept that it eclipsed my former Vexen ships by a mile and I wanted to go back to my roots. That one, I have a much longer essay about that I'll just have you refer to so I don't repeat myself for pages. To make a long story short, their scene in III was JUST DELICIOUS.
most badass character: OOF THEY'RE ALL BADASS but in the end it's between Sora and Aqua, because Sora gets the widest RANGE of abilities across the series that he masters while Aqua gets the most POWERFUL abilities due to her Mastery (Command Styles seem like they'd be the most OP things ever in-universe and I'm here for it because flashy battle moves make brain go brr).
pairing I am not a fan of: SOKAI, Xehaqus, RikuNami, Vanitas/anyone not evil
character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): OH BOY. KAIRI THE MOST. YOU ALL KNOW WHY: lack of screen time, Fridging for drama, forced romance to invite death flags (they really wanted to milk that death to get people talking didn't they?), giving Alyson Stoner ZERO direction to actually follow up on Hayden Panettiere's performance. But then I remember that they made Vexen redeem and lose his entire personality and I just...uuugghhhh. I can't believe he died twice in this series. And then Demyx is FUN but also I know he's flipped sides as well, which means he won't be fun much longer! Xehanort seems to switch motivations to whatever makes him the biggest threat (and several of Eraqus' old flaws seem to be mysteriously glued onto him), Sora isn't a motormouth anymore, Riku just doesn't get anyone who cares about him anymore because everyone's distracted by Sora and Kairi, IS ANYBODY GOING TO ADDRESS THE ACTUAL ISSUES THAT DROVE THE WAYFINDER TRIO APART, oh God Marluxia and Larxene you're good guys now what have they done to you
favourite friendship: I really like each of the trios. But you know what's even BETTER than the trios? If you put...all of the trios together...meaning Sora, Riku, Kairi, Mickey, Donald, Goofy, Aqua, Terra, Ven, Roxas, Xion, Lea, Hayner, Pence, Olette...and then you added Isa back in there...and you gave them Ienzo...and you brought back Naminé...and you say that Subject X is Strelitzia and you have her turn back up so she can have justice done...AND YOU HAVE AN ULTRA KEYBLADE GROUP OF FRIENDS. As for Vexen, any purely platonic relationship I have for him is a crossover but trust me I have many crossover pals for he
character I want to adopt or be adopted by: See everyone I listed above in the friendship question. They can either mentor me or let me be their big sis/mom. But also, I will GLADLY be Merlin or Yen Sid's daughter. (But also would I kiiiiinda wanna be a VexDem daughter? This is the worst idea. Still wanna try)

I noticed the topic of kh parents brought up and I was wondering, do you have any headcanons concerning the parents of the kh characters? What about characters who don't have biological parents in the traditional sense, like Nobodies, Replicas, etc? Do you think the parents of their Others or Originals would count as their bio parents? Would Sora's parents count as Roxas's? And do you think any of the characters have siblings? Sorry I've just been thinking about this stuff A LOT lately.
Actually, not really. Which is surprising because I’ve said the familial relationships are some of my favorite. The most I have are that Sora gets his spiky hair from his mom, who I imagine to have more dirty blonde hair, and that Sora’s dad has been close friends with Tidus’s dad their whole lives (with Tidus’s parents just being the KH versions of his Final Fantasy parents. Jecht has a lot of energy and nowhere to put it except sports, but I imagine that without the fame he had in FFX that he’s a lot more mellow and closer to his personality in Dissidia. Still a troublemaker, but less of a fame-obsessed jackass. Closer to what he was like with Auron and Braska in the spheres)
For Kairi, I do think that her biological parents are dead and that she was raised by her grandmother. Sometimes I toss around the idea that they were killed along with Ienzo’s parents in an accident together, the only difference between the two being that Kairi still had biological family to take her in while Ienzo didn’t, so Ansem the Wise took him in
As for if they’d count as anyone’s biological parents, it’s hard to say since EVERYONE’S situation is wildly different. Roxas takes more after Ven in appearance but was originally Sora’s body, so do his genetics reflect Sora because that’s literally the body he’s in or Ven, who he appears as? Nobody knows what the deal with Namine is in terms of her body. Frankly, I’m not entirely sure she had a physical one before being placed in a Replica body. Xion’s body is clearly based on Kairi, but distorted. Is it distorted enough to be almost unrecognizable from a genetic standpoint? Not to mention the fact that she didn’t have a stable appearance at first (being able to appear as different people to others at the same time) and so shouldn’t have had anything resembling a genetic signature until getting her finalized Replica body in KH3. The only one who’d clearly be able to trace their genetics to someone is Repliku, who should be a 1:1 copy of Riku and he’s no longer in the picture SO...
I’ve said in the past, though, that the series generally doesn’t seem to care about genetics in terms of appearance, moreso the “impression” each character gives. Looks are simply a form given to the “heart” and can symbolize the connections between characters. So I think it’s ultimately a moot point. I mean, if we were to apply our universe’s understanding of genetics, then the situation is still that Xion and Namine may resemble Kairi and may, genetically, be similar enough to be considered biological sisters, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the changes in their appearance would align with Kairi’s parents, you know? Same with the Roxas/Ven/Sora thing. We just don’t know enough about anyone’s parents to make that call. It’s really all up to interpretation at the moment
I do think Sora and Kairi’s parents would be cool with adopting the Nobody/Replica kids. Sora’s because they’re probably very nice and welcoming people, Kairi’s because she’s already adopted (on Destiny Islands) and she can easily just claim “long lost sister(s)” and HOW could you break them up now that they’ve found each other? Riku’s seem like they’d be stricter to me and may have had some resistance about taking Repliku if he was still around, but I imagine Riku would insist on it
As for if any of them have siblings? Not Sora and Riku, at least. If only because siblings are never mentioned, not even when Riku says that they’d never see their parents again the night Destiny Islands fell. He specifies parents, not family. Kairi and the members of Organization XIII (sans Ienzo/Zexion because if he had a sibling then why didn’t Ansem take them in, too?) are the only original characters I’d say could have siblings that we simply don’t know about (I mean, just look at what they did with Marluxia/Lauriam... who I’m also excluding from this statement on a technicality BECAUSE I don’t think he has any siblings besides Strelitzia). Kairi due to how little we know about her home life on Radiant Garden (IF her parents were still alive, then it’s possible they could’ve had another kid after their daughter was abducted or she had an older sibling that she doesn’t remember) and the Organization due to how little of their backstories we know. I’m sure even then, not all of them have siblings. Maybe add Terra and Aqua in, but that’s entirely dependent on the circumstances that Eraqus took them in under, which we currently know nothing about. I’m more iffy about the two of them, though, because making a probability call is entirely dependent of the ages that Eraqus actually took them in (if I’m remembering right, the earliest possible are 14 for Aqua and 16 for Terra, but at least Terra was probably a good deal younger just based on how close he is to Eraqus)

Chapters: 1/1 Fandom: Kingdom Hearts (Video Games) Rating: General Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Braig & Ienzo (Kingdom Hearts) Characters: Braig (Kingdom Hearts), Ienzo (Kingdom Hearts), Luxu (Kingdom Hearts) Additional Tags: Soft platonic family moments, Fluff, Apprentice family Summary:
Ienzo had a bad habit of sneaking away.
When Ienzo went missing during the day, everyone noticed almost immediately. Almost. Sometimes Even wouldn't notice until an hour later that his charge was no longer sitting quietly within the lab, but he noticed. Dilan and Aeleus would notice when they found the two troublesome teens sneaking in through a new way, knowing they must have seen Ienzo come out of it on the other side.
Ansem noticed when it was brought to his attention after the boy was brought back.
Whether or not Braig ever noticed was never important. He rarely came for the boy. Ienzo always considered that a fortunate thing, Braig was trouble. He always found him right away, always taking the boy by surprise. All the other adults Ienzo could hear coming a mile away. With their grumbling and heavy footsteps. Braig just appeared. Ienzo never heard or saw which direction he came.
He couldn't help but wonder if the man had magic, too.
Even so, daytime was the worst to wander. Daytime was too easy for them to be aware. But it was when Ienzo felt the most trapped. Daytime was full of noise, scratching pencils and loud arguments in the upper labs, and full of people he didn't care for. Strangers that would give a supposed lost boy a second look and try to grab him. And while this world was very beautiful in the shining sun, with its abundance of flowers blooming all over, it had another type of beauty at night. Night time brought quiet. It brought the shining stars in the sky and a calm that Ienzo craved.
When the sky turned dark and the young boy was sure all in the castle were asleep, he'd make his move. Quietly, he made his way out of his room and down the long and much too large halls of the castle. Sometimes Ienzo wondered what lived in here before Ansem the Wise. Before Radiant Garden got its name... It couldn't have been humans. This structure was much too big for them. Maybe giants. That would explain Aeleus thought the boy. The man's stature made him a giant, even among the already too tall residents of the world.
Ienzo would sometimes wonder if he was from this world proper. He felt too small. Too quiet. Too listless.
But that couldn't be possible, he thought as he finally made his way outside, emerging out of a hidden door within the southern garden. Dilan knew of this one, but it was far too obvious to sneak into. Sneaking out of was another story. He looked around for signs of those two boys before he moved again, towards the wall. There was a ladder that reached to the top, an easy way for the guards to move around and do a quick visual sweep of the world outside of the castle. Ienzo looked up at the stars as he climbed. Slowly, rung by rung.
No, he couldn't be from anywhere else. Even if he couldn't remember much before coming here- Even often talked of an injury he had on his right temple- he had to be from this world. They didn't know getting to the other Worlds was possible until recent. That boy had to have come from another world, right?
But, how. How did they get here?
This World had stories, yes, but not the means to make a myth reality.
Ienzo pulled himself up onto the wall, steadying his feet for a moment before he started walking again. From South to East. It was a long walk, but it gave Ienzo a good look at the World they were on. From the sleepy buildings with their blood red roofs, to the tall forest that separated some of the sectors of the town. He could hear the rushing waters of the fountains as he passed by them, just out of reach from the plants that were crawling up the walls and attempting to take over.
On the far east he could sit, out of view from anyone else that could be up at this hour. Ienzo could look out on the calm waters that surrounded this not-quite island. Seeing the floating gardens that welcomed the rare trading boat. Occasionally he'd see a splash as a fish snapped at the bugs that tread the water's surface. While the humans slept, the world continued on as it should. It was a comfort, knowing that when they were all gone, this World would always go on.
It was a thought someone so young shouldn't have. But Ienzo's thoughts often drifted to how fragile he was. How quickly a human life could be snuffed out, with everyone moving on around it. He was proof of that. His parents were presumed dead, and he was placed in the care of someone else. Expected to continue living and grow up without them.
He lost track of how long he sat on that wall, staring at nothing and everything while he thought. The air was cool and he kept his knees pulled close to conserve warmth. Every breath let out a small puff of vapor. Maybe he should have grabbed that too big coat? Far too late now. He took a deep breath, enjoying the way the chilled air filled his lungs. It stung, but it filled his nose with the scents of the night. The air was crisp, and the smell of the water around them was strong. The start of decay in the leaves was on the slight wind, as well as the lingering smoke and ash from nearby chimneys. Autumn was around the corner. Another turn in the wheel.
“Got pretty far this time, didn' ya?”
Ienzo would have jumped if it wasn't for the heavy hand that rested on his shoulder. He looked up at the man that caught him, eyes wide. When did Braig get here? He would have heard him!
Braig didn't look mad. In fact, the man looked more amused than anything. Here was the King's ward, all the way out on a border patrol wall, by himself. The poor thing looked like a scared mouse caught in a trap. But Braig wasn't going to let him go, he knew that Ienzo would run. He was a tiny thing, but he was fast when he wished to be.
“You know you're not suppose to leave the castle unsupervised.” Braig knew he knew he wasn't suppose to  leave at all. Especially at night, when anything could happen. Honestly, they had all hoped that the scare in the courtyard with those creatures would have curbed the boy's urge to run away. Obviously that wasn't the case, as he was getting more bold with his attempts.
The grip on the small boy's shoulder was adjusted slightly as Braig lowered himself to sit down next to him. He wasn't letting go, but he'd be on his level. “It's a nice spot, but not too great for hiding.” But he could see the point wasn't to hide. Not really. If Ienzo wanted to hide and not be found, then he would be in a better spot. Braig and Xehanort had found the boy in the most impossible spots before. Braig knew the boy well, and Xehanort seemed to have a knack for thinking of where an upset child would go.
Ienzo frowned up at him, still not saying a word. Braig chuckled, use to that little pout. He was cranky he was caught. Cranky that it was him and not the big one that found him. Braig knew he wasn't the favorite, and that was fine.
“They're going to worry when they wake up and you're not in your room.”
Ienzo looked away from him, shaking his head. He didn't want to go back, not yet! His little fingers twitched, tapping at the cold stone below him. He could talk, when he wanted. But he did it so rarely that he was finding it difficult to find the words he wanted to say. Why he couldn't-
“It's okay, little dude. We don't have to go back just yet.”
Ienzo blinked, looking back up at him. Did he hear him right?
“Or did you want to go?”
Another head shake and small hands tugging at his jacket. Just a few more minutes. It was so calm.
“Okay, okay.” The hand finally lifted up from his shoulder to the top of Ienzo's head to still him. Maybe ruffle that hair, mess up the part Even tried so hard to keep neat. He stared down at the one bright blue eye that wasn't hidden by his hair. Sometimes it was so familiar. “I get it.”
Braig took a breath, content when he heard Ienzo do the same. Good, he was calming down. He was slowly realizing that he wasn't in trouble. Yet. He watched the boy settle down once more, looking back out at the waters. At the edge of the cliffs that seemed to surround them on all sides. Like they were in a crater.
Braig looked towards the horizon, seeing the deep purples and blues of the night sky start to shift. The sun would be coming up. How long had the boy been out here?
“You're very lucky it was Xehanort that noticed you were gone.” He said, not looking down. He didn't need to look at Ienzo to see the look of surprise and doubt. Why would Xehanort check on him? “He's got a weird tick he has. I'll catch him, walking in the middle of the night. Making sure everyone's breathing. I wonder if it's a habit he doesn't realize he remembers.”
Ienzo looked down. Xehanort also couldn't remember anything from before the castle. Only his name. A habit like that... Did Xehanort have siblings? He adjusted to living with many people fast. He wasn't too old, he couldn't have had kids yet.
“I was getting coffee for my evening round, and he got me,” continued Braig. Why Xehanort didn't wake Even or Ansem was in the back of Ienzo's mind. But if Braig was already awake... Xehanort must have heard him in the kitchens.
Braig could still see that Ienzo's body language was closed off. He was stiff, holding his knees closer so he could be smaller. He knew he couldn't run away, but he could close Braig off completely. That wasn't going to work out. Braig could just easily pick the boy up, but he didn't feel like getting punched by those tiny fists. His face was still sore and healing. His undamaged eye looked from the sky to the boy, then back to the sky again.
“I'll cut you a deal,” he began, knowing Ienzo was listening. “We'll stay out here until the sun rises. Then we go back home-- to the castle.” Braig mentally smacked himself for that one. Calling the castle home always seemed to upset the boy. It was understandable. He was young, and new to life there.
As much as Ansem and Even tried to make him comfortable, to teach him and prepare him for the future they saw for him... Ienzo seemed to resist every step. Ienzo clearly adored the two men, and followed them around like a baby duckling when allowed. But something in his heart made him waver. Braig could see that even now.
“Hey now, I get it.”
There was that phrase again. Ienzo seemed to doubt that Braig understood. But he didn't question it. He'd let the man believe whatever lie he spoke into existence.
Gold and blue looked out again, watching the colors slowly turn. A pale blue appeared at the very bottom edge. Clouds would become more defined as the light of the sun just barely started to peek out.
Ienzo felt himself more at peace as he watched the sun rise. Hearing the birds start to chirp before the light was even visible, feeling a little bit more warmth. Not quite enough to be comfortable, but enough for Ienzo to relax and stop locking himself up.
Braig felt the boy shift beside him, patting his head once more. He never did let go. “Pretty, ain't it?” He asked, keeping his eye on the mix of colors that painted the skies in front of them. On the stars that were slowly fading from view. “No where near as beautiful as the sunrises from my own world, but it's pretty damn close.”
Ienzo looked up at that statement, staring at Braig. This pulled a laugh at the older man, such a serious look!
“Yeah, yeah. Don't go blabbing it to everyone. But I ain't quite from these parts, y'know?” Braig grinned down at the boy, holding a single finger up to his lips. “As if I need to tell you to be quiet, eh?” A little tease where it was earned. Ienzo was a very quiet boy.
But Braig knew how to listen to him without ever hearing a word.
“Where I'm from the sunrises were the most beautiful across the Star Ocean.” He lifted his other hand up, gesturing to the last few stars they could see. “My town was known for it. The beginning of a new day was so special to us. It was proof we were alive. Proof yesterday happened, that tomorrow was a promise.” He let that hand drop to his side, his other moving from Ienzo's head back to his shoulder. He smiled a bit as he felt the boy scoot closer.
If he had to listen to the man talk he might as well steal his warmth. Ienzo let him continue, enjoying the precious minutes he was gaining from letting an old man go down memory lane. Ienzo's quiet was ruined, but he didn't seem to mind just one voice speaking. He was outside, he had space. He seemed content enough.
Braig described a World so similar to Radiant Garden. Ienzo was sure he never actually left Gardens at all. The tweaks were slight and it seemed too perfect, that Braig would leave somewhere just to end up in a land almost identical. But there were some details, that Ienzo couldn't quite focus on, that stood out just enough. How tall was that clock tower again?
Ienzo closed his eye as he listened, letting the image come alive in his mind. The rays of the sun felt different. The smell of the flowers belong to different species that were rare on their world. Slowly, Braig's voice was blending in with the sound of the birds and the waves that lapped at the edge of the world. Of the hums and voices rising in the air as the earliest of risers started to wake. Ienzo could smell fires starting once more. The bakery was getting ready for its day. For a moment he thought he heard kids shouting, but it was far too early for them.
Braig was still talking. What did he say? “Y'know, you remind me of him.” Of who? He couldn't bring himself to listen to the words he was saying. His tiny body was overriding his want to stay awake.
“Maybe one day I'll bring it back and show you.”
It was said so softly, Ienzo wasn't quite sure he heard it at all.
Braig felt Ienzo lean against him and waited for a few seconds. The breathing was slow and steady. He fell asleep. The illusion that had been summoned around them faded into reality. The man let out a slow, shaky breath as he watched a memory dissolve. This kid was trouble, using his magic like that without realizing it.
He looked down at the sleeping boy, gently fussing with the hair in his face. That was the ultimate test if he was asleep or not. As he almost moved it out of the way, he paused. No slap, no flinch or cowering away. He was out like a light. Carefully, he scooped the tyke into his arms, standing up with ease on the wall. Only a few steps to see if anyone could see them where they were before he let the air and space warp around both of them.
He walked right out of the void he summoned, laying Ienzo down into his own bed. He tucked him in, gently ruffling his hair, before stepping back through his own portal to return to the post he should have been at. No one else needed to know he got out of bed or what was said.
He really was getting too soft on the kid.

I kid you not this is literally me with Ienzo currently. He’s supposed to be a side character yet Nomura is giving him a lot of time in the spotlight as well as plenty of traits typical to a Disney/JRPG protagonist (amnesia, technically royalty, dead parents, etc). Nomura what’re you gonna do to him.

Maybe another part for it's ok. Where daughter reader is a teenager and gets in an accident where she has forgot everything besides living with her biological parents. So she is scared a lot and can't deal with everything that has changed.
It’s Okay Part 9
Warnings: Angsty angst angst
Rating: SFW
thank you to @winterstarqueen for helping me out with this request!
Tumblr media
(reader is now a teenager)
You were walking to school on a beautiful sunny day and ran into a man who looked like he was beaten up. You ran over to the man and helped him up, but after you did, a searing pain went through your head. You clutched your head and moaned out in pain. The man who you helped looked at you and smirked.
“Now, it’ll be easier for me to summon Kingdom Hearts,” he said.
“S-summon what?” you asked.
“You’ll find out soon enough.” You felt a wave a dizziness run through you and you passed out.
~~~~
“I just got a call from the school. Apparently, (Y/N) never made it to school,” Xion said as she holding her 3 month old son in her arms.
“What? How can that be? We live super close to the school,” Roxas said.
“I think something bad happened to her.”
“I think so too. We should go find her.”
“I’ll go call Lea so he can babysit Ruki.” While Xion was calling Lea, Roxas was thinking of all the possible situations for your disappearance.
“Please be okay, (Y/N),” he muttered.
~~~~
You woke up, seeing that you were not in Radiant Garden with your parents. In fact, you only remembered your biological parents. You looked around, confused and heard the door open. You saw the man who you saved earlier walk in.
“Hey, kiddo. How ya feelin’?” he said.
“I-I’m okay. What happened yesterday?” you said.
“Ahh. You see, your parents were treating you so horribly that I saved you from them.”
“Oh. Well, thank you.”
“You’re welcome, kiddo. Want to get something to eat?” You nodded and followed him into the kitchen.
“Whatcha wanna eat? I got spaghetti, pancakes, anything you want,” he said.
“Um, can I have (Fave food) please?” you asked.
“You got it kiddo!” He got the materials out and started cooking.
“Um, I hope I’m not being rude but um, why do you wear that coat and have your hood on?” you asked.
“Oh, you’re not being rude, kiddo. I wear this to protect myself from the darkness,” he said.
“Huh?”
“You see, there are these monsters called Heartless. They are a part of the darkness. And the only way to destroy those monsters is using a weapon called the Keyblade.”
“A Keyblade. Sounds cool.”
“It is cool! Maybe you can defeat some of them.”
“Me?! I-I don’t think I can.”
“Oh sure you can! I can teach you how, if you want.”
“Really?! Sweet!”
“Alright, Bon Appetit!” He handed you your food and it looked amazing. You took a bite and it was amazing too. The two of you ate together while getting to know each other as well.
“So naive. Pretty soon, she’ll be able to open Kingdom Hearts.”
~~~~
“She’s not at the ice cream shop. Where can she be?” Roxas said.
“I don’t know. But, I’m getting more worried by the second,” Xion said.
“I know. We’ll find her. I promise.” Suddenly, Roxas’s phone started to ring. He grabbed his phone and answered it.
“Hey, Roxas!” It was Sora!
“Sora! Have you found (Y/N) yet?” Roxas asked.
“No. But I do have a clue.”
“A clue?” Xion asked.
“I was talking with Even and Ienzo and someone had hacked into their computer system. On the computers, there was a message saying, ‘may the Princess of Light open the portal to Kingdom Hearts’. I think it has something to do with (Y/N).”
“‘Portal to Kingdom Hearts’? Is someone trying to open Kingdom Hearts?” Roxas asked.
“Most likely. Sorry that this is not enough, but I’ll let you know when I find more.”
“Thanks, Sora. We owe you one,” Xion said.
“Anytime.” Sora hung up the phone and Roxas put his phone away.
“What did he mean by ‘Princess of Light’?” Xion asked.
“I don’t know. But we need to find out soon,” Roxas said.
“Should we go to Master Yen Sid?”
“I think we should. I’ll let Sora know what he says.” The two of them then went to Master Yen Sid’s to see what he had to say.
~~~~
“Concentrate. Think of the Keyblade,” The MoM said as he observed you. You thought of what the Keyblade would look like. You felt something come into your hand and saw that it was a Keyblade.
Tumblr media
“I did it! I actually did it!” you said with a big smile on your face.
“Good job, kiddo!” the MoM said. The two of you continued to train till you were tired and hungry. After you had dinner, it was time for bed.
“Night, kiddo. I’ll see you in the morning,” he said.
“Night.” The MoM closed the door and went to his office.
“That girl is so naive. Pretty soon, the portal to Kingdom Hearts will be complete and then this whole universe shall be drowned in darkness. All it takes is her precious memories and that pathetic heart of hers,” he said. He looked down at the Book of Prophecies and saw the picture of a girl holding your keyblade standing in front of the door to Kingdom Hearts wearing a beautiful outfit.
Tumblr media
(you can change this if you want)
“Let the destruction begin,” he said.
~~~~
“Hmmm, quite peculiar. A Princess of Light. I feel like I’ve heard of that before,” Master Yen Sid said.
“What can we do? I’m scared that it might hurt our daughter,” Xion said.
“Follow me.” Roxas and Xion followed the master down the halls of his tower.
“When I was a boy, there was a legend called the Sun Ghost. Apparently, she had the power to open up portals using her Keyblade that resembled the sun,” he said.
“What does that have to do with (Y/N)?” Roxas asked. The three of them entered the library and he found an old book. He opened the book and showed Roxas and Xion who this Sun Ghost was.
“It looks like (Y/N) almost,” Xion said.
“Yes. I have a feeling that whoever is making (Y/N) this Princess of Light, has ties to the Sun Ghost,” the master said.
“We need to do something. This person wants our daughter open Kingdom Hearts and we need to stop them before they do.”
“Well, I can’t let you two go.”
“What?! Why not?!” Roxas asked.
“The two of you have a son and if the two of you don’t make it back, it’ll break that poor boy’s heart.”
“He’s right, Roxas. We need to protect Ruki,” Xion said.
“Yeah, alright. Who’re you gonna send?”
“I shall send Sora. I feel like he will be able to locate your daughter and save her.”
~~~~
“Guys! I found out where (Y/N) is!” Sora said over the phone.
“Really?! Where is she?” Roxas asked.
“She’s in a world called Daybreak Town. Master Yen Sid filled me in on my mission so you don’t have to explain it to me.”
“Okay. Please bring her home. We miss her so much,” Xion said.
“I will.” Sora hung up the phone and Xion started crying.
“Baby, please don’t start crying. It breaks my heart to see you that way,” Roxas said as he hugged Xion.
“I’m sorry. It’s just all so overwhelming,” she said.
“Shh, it’s gonna be okay. I have faith in Sora.”
“I know you do. I have faith in him too.”
~~~~
Sora had arrived in Daybreak Town and started his search for you. He looked in all of the shops and homes but no sign of you.
“This place is so pretty. I wonder why no one lives here anymore,” he said.
“Because they’re all dead.” Sora turned around and saw the MoM.
“Who’re you?! Are you with the Organization?!” Sora asked.
“Me? Naw, I was here longer than the Organization. I created these jackets long before they did,” the MoM said.
“What did you to (Y/N)?”
“Why would you want to know? Are you her father?”
“No, I’m her uncle and her parents are worried for her. I know what you’re planning on doing and I’m not gonna let that happen.” Sora summoned his Keyblade and pointed it at the MoM.
“We’ll see about that,” the Mom said. He summoned a group of heartless and disappeared through a Dark Corridor. He reappeared back to you (wearing one of the outfits above) and you were looking at the unfinished door to Kingdom Hearts.
“Are you sure that I’m ready for this?” you asked.
“Of course. It’s the only way to get rid of the Heartless for good,” he said.
“(Y/N), don’t do this!” You and the Mom turned around and saw Sora run up to you.
“What? How were you able to defeat them?” the MoM growled.
“I don’t have to tell you that,” Sora said.
“Dad, who is this?” you asked. Sora was shocked. What did he do to you?
“(Y/N), it’s me. Uncle Sora. Come on, we used to play together when you were a kid.”
“Don’t listen to him. He just wants to take your happiness away,” the MoM said.
“That’s not true. (Y/N), this man wants the whole universe to fall into darkness and only you have the power to do so. If you go with him, then you may never see light again,” Sora said. You felt torn. You felt like you knew this Sora person but at the same time you didn’t. Hearing the two men argue about your decisions became too much and you screamed in pain and agony.
“(Y/N)!”
to be continued...
Grow, a Kingdom Hearts fanfic, chapter 13--Epilogue
Suddenly human and abandoned in the Keyblade Graveyard, Demyx struggles to survive and come to terms with what his life is. Only by chance is he saved from exposure, and brought to Radiant Garden to recover. Unsure of who he is and where to even begin, Demyx finds a kindred spirit in Ienzo, and before long finds perhaps he isn't the only one lost in this new life. But how can they move forward with so much holding them back?
Roughly canonverse, Zemyx, hurt/comfort. Started for Zemyx day (9/6). Updates Wednesdays until it's done.
Chapter summary: Edym and Ienzo continue to grow.
Read it on FF.net/on AO3
---
It wasn’t all sunshine and roses.
The more time passed, the more trickling memories came back. The picture Edym got was never clear , exactly. More like brief flashes of insight. Fighting Heartless with his sister. Getting his ass kicked again and again.
Learning music.
It was their mother that taught him, that suggested maybe he shouldn’t follow in Elrena’s footsteps. Edym had always heard music in things, found himself gravitating towards it. Once it was well and truly in his life, it was like a hole had been filled.
But the more insight Edym had into Elrena, the angrier and more hurt he felt about how Larxene had treated Demyx. They’d both been amnesiac, but how or why had that relationship mutated to hatred? Had something else happened? Did she just feel that betrayed by him not joining her?
Would he ever know?
For a long while his life fell into a steady--mostly pleasant--rhythm. Work, gardening, time with Ienzo. It was all so painfully ordinary. Not that Edym minded that, at all. Waking up next to him was worth all the pain he’d gone through.
The others gradually got used to his presence, their relationship. The more Edym thought about it, the less he really wanted to find the place that was once home--especially if it meant leaving Ienzo. Maybe someday they would live in their own little house, with a cat or a dog. With or near friends. But for now… what they had was fine as it is. There was no need to rush into anything serious.
Edym and Ienzo… began to grow.
It was hard to leave behind that time in the Organization, especially because so much of Edym’s sense of self came from Demyx. And Ienzo had spent the majority of his childhood as a Nobody. Figuring out who they were and what humanity all meant was dazzling and confusing. The more his flickers of memories came back, the stranger Edym felt. He’d been soft, but he’d also been so young . He knew something awful had happened to their home, and, more likely, it had all happened a lot longer ago than anyone thought. But how, or why, Xemnas had found them was anyone’s guess.
“I’m sorry, but there’s nothing we can do to help,” Even told him. “Aside from patiently waiting for those memories to come back… we can’t look into what happened to your world without knowing what it’s called.”
Edym knew this was true. It still put a sour seed in his chest. He thought of his sister, of Larxene. Harder still to grieve someone who was likely alive. But where was she? How would she feel seeing him again? Did she even care?
“I know it’s easier said than done,” Ienzo said softly, one night after they made love. “But you have to stop torturing yourself.”
“I know. I’m trying. I just…”
“Want closure.”
“Well. Yeah.” Don’t you ? He almost asked.
“I know. I wish I could… take that pain from you.”
“I just have this feeling that she’s alive, and I-- even if we just… hash things out, I don’t know.”
“I can’t say I relate totally,” Ienzo said. “But I know how it is to… lose people to the unknown.”
“Your parents?”
He nodded. “I scarcely have any memory of them anymore. My memories used to be so--achingly sharp.” He touched his brow. “Now, not so much. To take a page from Ansem’s book… if you’re meant to find each other again, you will. You have to trust in that.”
“You really believe that?”
He sighed, and smiled. “Call me crazy, but I do.” Ienzo kissed him. “Want some tea?”
---
Time passed. Edym kept waiting for the other shoe to drop--for things to get complicated and messy again. But they didn’t. Even eventually replaced the other kidney. He grew closer to the members of the restoration committee, became friends with them. When Scrooge offered him the opportunity to manage the post office instead of just work it, he took it. It felt nice to do something that had a positive impact, for once.
He was sweeping up one day after close when he heard the doorbell. They’d recently moved shop away from the strange little bazaar into their own building. “Sorry, we’re closed. Drop your mail in the box outside. I’ll handle it first thing.”
“Look at you, a cog in the machine.”
Edym froze. Very slowly, he turned.
“...Don’t look at me like that. Whose idea were the glasses? Almost makes you look not stupid.”
He made a strange noise. “How did you--when--I--”
Elrena looked tired, her skin sallow. “It’s a long and ultimately very boring story,” she said. She picked up a book of stamps, looked at it with something like distaste, and set it down. She was still wearing the black coat, he noticed. “Xigbar didn’t bite it, you know.”
He gripped at his elbow. “Yeah. I know. He almost killed me.”
“Really? I thought there was a--I don’t know. Rapport, or something, between you two. He was one of the only ones who could stand you.”
Edym blinked. Seeing her, he felt something a whole lot more complicated than he thought. Not relief. Not happiness. “So he found you and brought you here?”
“...Something like that. He said this was where you ended up.”
Edym shook his head slowly. “You wanted to see me?”
She smirked. “Call me sentimental, but yeah, I did. Was wicked weird when I found out. Lauriam just thought it was hilarious. Marluxia,” she clarified.
“So he’s around too.” Edym set the broom aside. “Well. Good for him, I guess.”
There was a pause. Elrena cleared her throat. “You’re going to snitch about Xigbar, aren’t you?”
“Probably. Yeah.”
“...Is it bad I kind of want you to?”
“More pot stirring?”
“More pot stirring.” She grinned. “It’s what I do best.”
“So what are you two doing with him, anyway?”
“Honestly? I’m not completely sure. But I’m helping Lauriam look for someone, and then after that… well. The World is our oyster.”
Without ceremony, Edym said, “Stelitzia.”
“Oh, you remembered that much?”
Woodenly, he nodded.
“Lauriam thought he remembered someone getting her killed. But considering that nobody in this fucking world seems to stay dead… well.” She shrugged.
“Why are you telling me all this?”
She dropped her eyes. “Like I said. All this talk of his sister… had me feeling sentimental. And that’s so not cool. I thought if I saw you it’d stop.”
“Did it?”
“Don’t know.”
Edym let out a slow breath. “How long are you in town?”
“Not long.” She took another few steps towards him. “If you want, you can come with us.”
He laughed. “No. No way in hell. Sorry.”
“Worth a shot.”
“Why would you want me anyway?”
“You could see her again.”
Edym put his hands in his pockets. “I don’t want to leave what I have here. I… I’m happy, you know? I feel like I’m… starting to finally do more good things than bad. My life is here. Whatever we had before, as kids. I don’t think it was a life.”
Her eyes darkened. “No,” she said in a low voice. “It wasn’t.”
“You could have a life here too,” he said. “Or… not here, anywhere you want. You don’t have to go along with Lauriam and Xigbar. You could choose.” He offered his hand, and for a breath thought she might take it.
Elrena smirked. Shook her head. “Nah,” she said. “I’ve got things to do. People to see.”
“And undermine?”
“With any luck.”
Edym nodded. His heart settled in his chest. “Just don’t get yourself killed again,” he said. “And slug Xigbar good for me, okay?”
“Maybe. He does always seem to be asking for it.”
There was a pause, longer than the last. “You’ll be okay?” she asked.
“Yeah. I really will.”
“Well, okay. Then I’ll stop worrying.”
“You were worrying ?”
“Come on, Edym. We all know you’re not great at planning for the long term.”
“Maybe I’ve changed.”
She waved a hand dismissively. “I should go. My ride’s waiting.” She headed towards the door.
“Wait--Elrena--”
She turned, her lips pursed.
“Why did our Nobodies hate each other so much? Cause I don’t think I hate you now.”
She thought about it for a moment, her teal eyes flashing. “The last time we saw each other, we fought,” she said. “Can’t tell you for my life about what.”
“About the cult,” he said, with clarity.
“The Dandelions,” she corrected.
“I didn’t want you to leave me.”
“And I didn’t want to have to baby my brother.” She shook her head. “Well. Turns out that never happened. You were stuck with me. Maybe I resented that.”
Edym nodded.
“And being a Nobody makes you angry for no reason anyway ,” she said, more lightly. “Does that answer your question?”
“I think so.”
“Then I should go.” For a second, it seemed like she might touch him.
“You have a phone?” he asked.
“What, one of those dumb things? What kinda budget do you think we’re working with?” A grin.
“...Right. Well.” He took a deep breath. “I guess… if I see you, I see you. And if I don’t…”
“Yep.” She put her hand on her hip. “Don’t do anything stupid.”
“You, either.”
“And hey. If I really need something, I’ll just write.” She winked. “Bye, Edym.”
“Bye, Elrena.”
When she left, she didn’t look back.
---
Edym sat heavily on the blanket. His joints hurt from a long day of work. It was his turn to bring the picnic, but instead of cooking, he’d been too tired, so he’d just gotten takeout from Ienzo’s favorite place. He hoped that would suffice.
“I know I’m late,” Ienzo called. “Even was being very--” He cut himself off, his eyes wide. He looked around the courtyard slowly. “When did you have the time--”
“I’ve been here almost all day.” His face flushed.
Ienzo walked around slowly, touching the new plants in their pots. The orchids. The lanterns Edym had hung around the peripherals of the property. He’d tried to repair some of the stonework in the floor, too, but accepted that he was a terrible mason. Ienzo turned to look at him. “Why did you--”
“We’ve been spending a lot of time here. I wanted to… make it nice.” He stood, wincing at the ache in his hips. “Aeleus helped me with this.” He reached over behind the old fountain to turn on the pump.
“This must’ve taken hours--days,” he said. He shook his head. “Edym, I--” He touched one of the orchids. “You even remembered these.”
“I wanted to do something nice for you. It is your birthday,” he pointed out.
Ienzo jerked.
“Did you forget?”
“I did entirely,” he admitted. “Time doesn’t pass in that cursed lab.” He wrinkled his nose. “Thank you.” He leaned in to kiss him. “Really. Thank you.”
He shrugged, the blush in his face getting hotter. “I… liked doing it. Let’s eat, okay?”
They did.
“...You know, you don’t have to work in that lab,” Edym said.
“It has been wearing on me lately,” Ienzo admitted. “But I have to be able to… do good work. Good things. It’s the only way I can sleep at night.”
Edym squeezed his hand. “No need for you to suffer doing something you hate.”
Ienzo shook his head. “I don’t hate it,” he said. “Knowing that I’m doing something worthwhile does feel good.”
“But it’s the coworkers that suck?”
Ienzo grimaced. “Quite. At least Even is at least partially distracted by the research work you’ve given him. He’s been criticizing my coding like his doesn’t look two or three languages behind.”
Edym chuckled.
Ienzo set down his bowl. “You know…” he began. “This life is no longer feeling quite so strange.”
“Isn’t that good?”
“I think so.” He put a hand to his chest. “I was worried that humanity would never feel quite right. Everything still overwhelms me. But… at least that sensation isn’t always negative anymore.”
Edym kissed him. They rested there together for a while longer.
“I mean, this whole mess only began because of my poor self-control,” Ienzo continued.
“ Hey. I don’t think we’re messy .”
“We’re a little messy,” Ienzo said.
“Well. I’m glad that it all happened. I feel like you’ve… helped me.”
“The feeling is mutual,” he said. He sighed. “Hopefully our next mistakes are equally fruitful.”
“Har har.”
Ienzo leaned back against him. For a while, neither of them said anything; they didn’t have to. “Shall we head back?” Ienzo asked. “I could use some--ah--stress relief.”
Edym smirked. “You got it.” He kissed him, longer this time. “Let’s go home.”
SoKai is great but I wish more people would also let Kairi have good friends. I barely see her with people other then her trio or maybe Namine and Xion. So I propose, Ienzo and Kairi being old childhood friends when before she was taken from Radiant Garden and when meeting again they immediately become good friends again and nerd out together and everyone else is like "Wait, they know each other?"
Wanting one thing doesn’t negate wanting the other thing ;) I think a LOT of Sokai shippers agree that the interaction between Kairi and Riku in 0,2 was amazing (without wanting them to be romantic) and had wished for more like this in KH3 and were very disappointed when KH3 didn’t follow up with it. Sure, Riku is part of her trio, but that doesn’t mean she can’t be good/best friends with him, on the contrary, that is one of the friendships this series desperately needs. Riku has made similar experiences to Sora, has traveled the world and Kairi was always stuck at home, they can help each other understand their situations and feelings.
Also, I think Kairi being friends with Naminé and Xion would just be as wonderful. Despite many people headcanoning it, aside from interacting with Naminé in KH2 and wanting to save her in 3, Kairi didn’t really get to befriend Naminé at all, much less so Xion. I think a meeting of those three would be great, heck, throw Selphie in and they’d have a blast together!
Now I’m personally very pro Ienzo (the dead scientist in me loves the science boy okay??), but I’m rather against retro-introducing old childhood friends, especially since Ienzo was probably double the age of Kairi in BBS and unless your parents are friends and/or you have siblings, you’re way too unlikely to play with a 4 year old when you’re around 10. Ienzo is actually an orphan and Ansem the Wise took him up so unless Kairi’s related to him, it sounds quite unlikely.
However! I would be totally fine with them becoming friends now! Kairi does spend lots of time in Radiant Garden and while it seems like she’s been sleeping over a year, maybe she sleeps only a certain time of the day? Maybe they wake her up regularly to make her eat/try to convince her to stop this, but she insists? They could form a friendship there, even though it would be slow since Kairi is so focused on Sora and probably doesn’t really allow herself to have fun.
But you know what would be nice? If Lea actually came and checked up on Kairi every so often. They’re friends now, right? He should do that and not drop her just because he got his other friends back. Same goes for Riku (who is very aware of what Kairi’s doing though, yay!), but also Naminé and I’d argue Roxas - he did have contact to Kairi before and Naminé’s connected to Kairi, not to mention he knows about Sora’s feelings for Kairi, so I would hope he does have at least some kind of interest for her well-being :(
I still can’t believe we got an image of XEHANORT’S MOTHER before Sora’s. You know, the one parent (excluding Ansem the Wise, who adopted Ienzo) that existed in the Kingdom Hearts universe despite only being a voice with maybe three lines?
“Sora! Dinner’s ready; come down and eat! Sora?”
This poor woman is being done so dirty 😂😰
Like, seriously. Her son goes missing for a year, she may or may not have lost her heart and then was restored like the other inhabitants of the island, but then the next year she doesn’t remember him at all because of Namine picking apart and putting back together his memories. So she probably saw this child’s bedroom in her house that she didn’t recognize and either-
1) Sold off everything that was there because it clearly had nothing to do with her as she believes she has no children.
Or
2) Completely ignores it’s existence and doesn’t even go into that part of the house.
Then she DOES remember, but her son is missing and she probably goes into a depression and starts grieving the son she believes to be missing and/or dead. Even worse, his best friend was missing as well. Then his OTHER best friend goes missing.
Then they finally arrive- maybe even after a funeral has been done- and it’s just shock. Because Sora has grown so much, not to mention Riku. But just as she’s recovering and processing that her son is alive and back in her life, he’s going off in another adventure because some strangers they don’t even know have to be saved and apparently Sora is the only who can do so???
Another year passes, no word from her son, and then she’s being told that he’s... missing. Again. Lost. Sora has been wiped from existence. They have people searching through worlds, through data, even through hearts and memories to try and find him to bring him back, but another year passes and NOTHING. And now Riku has gone missing to try and find him as well, while Kairi is still in training to learn how to battle.
Like, seriously. Someone give Sora’s mom a keyblade, because she has a son to save. Jeez.
Tumblr media
Sora is 14 when the islands are swallowed by darkness. Then he’s stuck in a coma for a year and everyone forgets he’s existed. Then they remember, but he’s still gone. When he does come back to the island, back home, after defeating the organization, he’s sent off again for a Mark of Mastery exam to try and get the power to save those that are lost, but fails and ends up in a second temporary coma and loses all abilities and strength and has to start from zero, then ANOTHER year later he gets wiped from existence for rewriting time and basically resurrecting everyone that died during the second Keyblade War. Boy is 16-17.
His mom must be losing her freaking mind.
At least Riku’s have some sense of comfort knowing he’s still alive and okay. They can even talk via Gummi phone assuming Ienzo gave them one. But Sora? Nope. No one can contact him and vice versa. Save for, you know, the dreams. Which are super vague and cryptic.
Random Ienzo/Zexion Head-canons {p.1}
Ienzo's first instinct to comfort anyone is to make them their favorite dish. It back fires sometimes. He tries to be good with emotions and genuinely wants to be a good man, but growing up in the organization has left him with stunted growth of his heart....and an easily manipulated heart though he always tries to make it right. It wasn't until the organization, when he became a nobody and knew what death felt like, that Ienzo....Zexion was able to accept that his parents were really dead.
In Oblivion, when Lexaeus and Vexen died, Zexion had flash backs of when his biological parents died. In retrospect, to this day, Ienzo felt that Repliku absorbing him was just due karma.
Ienzo writes poetry in Latin. He has for years. The apprentices thought he grew out of his dark philosophical ramblings....but he simply hides his journals now.
Ienzo has a minor obsession with studying dark minds and what makes them think the way they do. He wants to understand the human balancing act between vice and virtue. He has recently discovered a painting tradition with a familiar name...
