Incunable: A term for books printed in Europe between 1455 and 1500. The term derives from the Latin word incunabulum, meaning “cradle” as a reference to this period as the “cradle of printing.” The term is completely ahistorical and there is little difference in quality or style between books printed in 1499 and 1501, but it marks a convenient stopping point for studies focused on early printing.

Look at this watermark!

Recently I was working with my coworker, the Curator of Rare Books and Manuscripts, to help broaden my knowledge of rare books, paper making, book binding, etc. We started talking about watermarks, their uses and how to identify them, and he pulled out our copy of Liber chronicarum (1493) along with a backlight. What better way to learn about watermarks than to see one lit up!

This page is from a collection of leaves from incunables - books printed in roughly the first 50 years of printing technology. It was printed in Augsburg by Hans Bämler in 1475. The woodcut shows a scene of martyrdom.

Una librería antigua es su casa. ¡ Lo más de lo más! Desde ya os aseguro que estamos ante lo que me ha parecido una novela muy inteligente. En la que el desenlace de la trama y el círculo que cierra ( o no 🤯) es creíble y sorprendente a un tiempo. Personajes que van apareciendo y que nos hacen pensar que son lo que no son. 🤯 " Todo lo que nos rodea, todo lo humano, no es más que un sueño". Y luego ese escenario de fondo magnífico que es Valencia; esa Malvarrosa larga, blanca, seduciéndome desde siempre.⛱️ Eloy me hace ver que hay personas a las que la vida las mira con el ojo torcido y por mucho que lo intenten no las sonríe ni para atrás.🖤 " A veces las cosas más sencillas son las que te hacen desear seguir vivo un poco más".
